I have ordered take out here a few times. The food is decent but every time i order here they forget things. My last order they forgot bacon on my husbands club sandwich and dressing for my salad. I also order the baked green beans they were probably the most disgusting canned green beans i have ever had.

Buffalo chicken pizza tastes awesome. The pizza base is real crispy. Fresh out of oven. Drinks are pretty expensive.

Beautiful decor, friendly staff, inexpensive gormet-style food and good selection of booze. They can bump up their game a little on the food to really stand out from the other neighborhood selections, but they are already the best pizza at Drexel. On top of that they offer real Italian and Greek specialties you'd have to travel far to get elsewhere. Really a good time anytime I go.

Only go if you are willing to wait an hour plus for your food. They are never busy, which makes it surprising that they are still in business. I went there once before, and thought it was decent enough to come back. We walked in for lunch this Sunday with a party of four. We placed our order. All of us got some sort of sandwich. We waited and waited. After a half hour, the waitress came over to offer us sodas because we were waiting for a while. We kept on waiting, and we asked to speak to the manager because there really was no excuse for waiting an hour so far for sandwiches. He was not very nice, and said there is nothing he could do, making the excuse that the kitchen was backed up even though no one was in the restaurant. Perhaps there is a reason why they are never busy... Try somewhere else around University City for better food and faster service.

It's a shame that I cannot give this restaurant anything LESS than 1 star - it honestly deserves 0 for the complete lack of respect and value that this establishment had for its customers. From the time we ordered to the time we left, we were not only harassed by the upper management, but were shouted and yelled at each time, leaving us completely stunned and utterly disgusted with the way this restaurant treats its patrons. Needless to say, neither I nor my party will never return. I would think twice before coming here - particularly if you are coming with guests you are hosting.

This place is absolutely terrible and racist. The manager and the assistant manager both refused to serve us because "our kind" was not welcomed at the establishment. We were kicked out forcibly and embarrassed. I am surprised such an establishment even exists in the North East. I was very appalled.

The Mediterranean dishes are where it's at. The pizza is light and tasty, though toppings are a bit sparse. If you don't mind a bit of house/techno music playing lightly in the background (even in the afternoon), Savas is nice and comfortable. The bartender George is THE BEST. He wants to hear your life story - and I'm okay with that. The beer is also very fairly priced and they have a nice bottled selection. It's also pleasant to go into a pizza place where you don't feel like the people working there have lost faith in mankind. Service is a bit slow, but I think they're still just working out the kinks. Oh, and soccer is almost always on.

After three years in University City it's time to finally start writing reviews for all of my local haunts. Sava's opened after my freshman year at Drexel and it was definitely welcome. They have the best grilled cheese among all of the Drexel area pizza places if anyone else has random cravings for grilled cheese at 1:00 a.m. like I do! Another thing it's the best at is the interior--it's more restaurant and less college pizza joint. They have a fully stocked bar (prices are what you'd expect at any other bar in the area). They sell beer as well, not to mention outdoor seating. The staff have always been friendly to me, and when I order take-out it's usually done pretty quickly. Now to some of the reasons why I've taken off a star. Sit-down dining can be pretty slow. Sometimes the waiters/waitresses can take a while to do things like get your check or refill your drink, but usually it's on the part of the kitchen and food can take a while. I've seen them get an order wrong once or twice as well so make sure you check it over quickly. They serve breakfast until 2 p.m. as well and I am a fan of their stromboli, pizza, pasta, and paninis. I don't like their style of fries as much as other places in the area so I go somewhere else for those. Prices are usual for the other restaurants in the area. I gave Sava's a four star rating for its location, consistency, and job in filling the need for a slightly nicer place to sit down and eat.

Everything is delicious, owner is awesome and personable. Food service is super slow and prices are a little too high fora pizza place. Overall good spot.

Five stars for the AMAZING Greek food we ordered. Minus one star for that section of the menu being so damn difficult to FIND amid the myriad steaks, hoagies, and other mediocre Drexel-student chow cluttering the thing. You'll also have to put up with some kind of funky trance music and drunk Drexel undergrads, but the owner's wife's Greek food is worth it. Word to the wise: not all of it is on the menu. Example: desserts. Make sure to ask what she's got made for dessert! We asked if there was any baklava knocking around--nope! But there WAS some sort of amazing Greek walnut honey soaked cake thing. Mmmmmm. And cheap. Very, very cheap for that quality of home cooked food. Yum.

I'm a fan of this place and recently made my boyfriend a fan as well! Even though there are a bunch of pizza places on Lancaster and in the general area, there isn't really one that you can really sit down and have a nice dinner with friends. Savas is the place to go for that and eating outside is pretty nice too. I really like the Southwestern wrap but I've heard good things about their other wraps as well. Of the few varieties of paninis I've tried, it was pretty good too. Closest place to get a good panini around the Drexel University campus.. It's about 10 dollars on average, per person. Pasta is a little more but the portions are HUGE! simple, inexpensive dinner. They have a large variety of pizzas with interesting toppings as well as traditional toppings. The only thing is the service for eating in is spotty... they usually forget something like dressing for your salad or getting you the drink you ordered. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are too inattentive. It really depends. All in all, great lunch and dinner spot if you want something nicer than Ed's or Powelton Pizza and are in the area.

Friendly service and a posh atmosphere. Nice for day or evening meals. Watch the fries, they're dangerously good, lol. Great for large groups or intimate get togethers. Close to all the attractions Philly has to offer.

Came here for takeout because I didn't feel like cooking. I've eaten in before, but this time I ordered online, which I'm usually all about because you can double check what you're ordering without going "huh?" 1000 times over the phone. I ordered a bacon burger and paid extra for cheddar cheese instead of American because American cheese is freaking gross. A few minutes later, I picked up my order, brought it home, and was seriously disappointed to find basically liquid American cheese on it. Not to mention that the burger was flopped together and overcooked. Fortunately, the fries were delicious.

Get the Greek. Just get it. It's easily among the best in the city...far better than Kanella, for instance, and at one third the price. The food is spectacular. We had the chickpeas, the daily special (stuffed eggplant), and the stuffed tomato/stuffed pepper. The first two were the best, but the stuffed tomato and pepper were pretty darn good in their own right. The decor is nice. The service is friendly and competent but not always up on what's available on the Greek side of the menu. The real problem is that there's not enough separation between the dining area and the bar, so you have to tolerate some drunk student chatter that's fairly muffled but still noticeable in the background. It's tolerable, but given the out-of-this-world food, it would be nice if the ambiance were equally upscale.

THIS REVIEW IS PURELY FOR THEIR BEER MENU. Hello, friendly beer menu... you have listed your price by the bottle/4-pack/ or 6-pack, and also your price if I get beer at the bar. I'd like to thank you for your honesty... It's nice to know I am indeed saving money by buying the bottle to go, as opposed to being overcharged regardless of where I enjoy. I understand bar markup, and I thank you for not carrying it over to take-out. They have this fabulous option to mix your own six pack from their very long beer list (see below, because this list isn't on their website, but is available to take home(with pricing) from their location), and the mix is priced based on the regular Take Out price. Ex: Heineken 6-pack price is $12, one Heineken is $2 in a custom six pack. They'll quote you a 6 pack price based on your requests, and usually carry all of the following: (Thank you for being a fantastic, diverse selection a few blocks from home.) Allagash Amstel Light Anchor Steam Beer Arrogant Bastard Asahi Belgian White Blue Moon Brooklyn Lager Brooklyn Local Brooklyn Penant Ale Bud Light Bud Light Lime Budweiser Chimay Coors Light Corona Extra Corona Light Dead Guy Ale Dogfish Head 60min Dogfish Head 90 min Flying Fish Extra Pale Flying Fish Hopfish Franziskaner Weissbier Guinness Draught Guinness Extra Stout Heineken Heineken Light Hoegaarden Ithaca Apricot Wheat Karnival Koelsch Kenzinger La Fin du Monde Leffe Belgian Ale Leinekugel Sunset Wheat Long Trail Pale Ale Magic Hat #9 Magic Hat Circus Boy Michelob Ultra Midas Touch Mike's Hard Lemonade Miller High Life Miller Light Molson Canadian Molson Golden Moosehead Lager Newcastle Brown Ale Pacifico Clara Peroni Nastra Red Stripe Rolling Rock Samuel Adams Boston Samuel Adams Noble Sierra Nevada Smirnoff Blueberry Smirnoff Green Apple Smirnoff Ice Smithwick's St. Pauli Girl Stella Artois Stone IPA Stoudts Scarlet Lady Strong Bow Cider Victory Golden Monkey Victory HopDevil Victory Prima Walt Wit Woodchuck Cider Yards Brawler Yards IPA Yards Pale Ale Yuengling Black and Tan Yuengling Lager While I didn't include prices, the most expensive are either the highest %ABV, or most exotic. Just for your information, in take out, Arrogant Bastard runs the priciest at 7 dollars a bottle, then Chimay at $26/4. The cheapest sixpacks are Miller High Life ($8), Michelob and Yuengling ($8.50), and other typical american beers at $9/ six-pack.

went to savas when it first opened and I was was convinced it would be my restaurant of choice this side of the river...unfortunately the service has gone down hill, which is something a number of other reviewers have pointed out. Also they gotta turn off the weird techno trans music, it makes me feel like im eating my food in some kind of time warp...

My slice of pizza was kind of blah. Take-out beer is pricey.

  • Regis M.

Decent pizza, they don't use much tomato sauce on their specialty slices, if any at all. Also the service is very rude, more than one of the employees became angry and annoyed over trivial issues. I'd say the service is the main reason I don't go in there anymore at all

I've been putting off reviewing Sava's for some time now hoping eventually I'd get a consistant opinion about this place. Powelton Village didn't really need another pizza place (this is now the 4th on Lancaster) but it did need something like Savas. The restaurant looks great and the food is excellent! Their lunch/dinner menu has a lot on it and everything I've tried has been the best version I've ever had. The hummas is amazing and their BBQ sauce is like crack. I've found that Savas has quickly become my go to place for take out/delivery. That being said, there are a few downsides to Savas. First issue: breakfast. I thought it was awesome they were serving it because this neighborhood was severely lacking a good breakfast joint. Unfortunately the breakfast menu is limited and everything I've had there has been bland. Pancakes, waffles, french toast, it all tasted the same. I guess if you're too lazy to make pancakes for yourself at home it'd be worth trying them here but don't go out of your way to eat here in the morning. The other issue I have is with their bar. The bar area, again, looks great but is not being used to it's fullest potential. Savas has a prime location in a college neighborhood but doesn't seem to want to use that to its advantage. Drink specials end at 6pm (too early in my opinion) and the bar seems to open late/at odd times. My friend and I wanted to go in one Saturday afternoon for a few beers and pizza but the bar was closed. The waiter was totally confused by our request for beer too (it wasn't super early either, like 2-3pm). Really the only other issue I have with this place is one of their waiters. I don't know his name but he waits on us every time I go in. He really sucks as a waiter and comes across super creepy. He's always touching us on our shoulders and backs and getting too close for comfort. Everytime I get really uncomfortable and just want to leave. One time we went in and were originally being helped by another female server (to our relief) but then he came out of nowhere and insisted on taking over our table. Because of this guy, I don't like to eat in here anymore. So my final verdict: Awesome food for take out, they sort of missed the mark on the dine-in side (and need to get rid of the creepy waiter).

For takeout, Savas is still good--no complaints about their food, which I enjoy. But eating in is probably not something I would do again. The service is SUPER slow (it took us almost 2 hours for dinner and we're not slow eaters) and the music is weird, loud, and intrusive. As are the multiple TVs at every conceivable angle and the general feeling of a college crowd. If you have some time to kill you can stop by, but it's just not enjoyable to eat in, which is a shame, because it is a nice space, and the food is really good.

nice ambience (especially the patio), good gyros, pizzas, salads (but avoid the potato skins!) all this would merit at least three stars from me if it weren't for the rude attitudes of the majority of the waitstaff and the apathetic service they provide. my best recommendation is for you is to take the food to go.

    (2)
  • Ryan H.

Savas has the worst service. I've been there several times (more than 5) hoping they would improve but always leave disappointed. Every time I wait at least 25min, usually around 30min for my food to come out. Then when I get the the food there is always at least one thing lacking, either the fries are cooked to the point they crunch like a bag of chips, or the "salad" is composed of lettuce and meat (no tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese, nothing!), oh wait we CLEARLY burnt your pannini but we will serve it to you anyway. Last but not least waiting for the check is a joke. They know that their service sucks so much that it's not a surprise for you to get up and pay at the take out register because the servers are just not concerned with doing their job. The breakfast is ok, but it's really hard to mess up french toast. Oh btw Sava owners if you read this, get rid of the girl who was the waitress tonight. She was too busy changing her clothes to even notice I was waiting for my check for 10 min.

Food quality - 4.5/5 Atmosphere - 3.5/5 Price - 5/5 Conclusion: Not a good option if you're looking to just eat quickly for lunch and not be bothered by waitstaff or asked for a tip. Maybe a better option for dinner if you're planning to actually sit down. The best way for me to put it is that I don't have a clue who they're targeting: the music and prices feel like they're trying to reel in college students, but the atmosphere feels like they're trying to be upscale or something (weird to me considering the menu is basically pizza and other fast foodish stuff). I went to this place for lunch, and to be honest, I probably won't go back again. I may order food for delivery, but that's about all I'd do. This may just be my own personal thing or whatever, but I was kind of annoyed with the service. I saw "pizza shop, free wifi" and thought, "Oh, okay, I can go and have lunch undisturbed!". NOT TRUE. I think this is probably a good place to go if you feel like sitting down and being waited on and all that jazz, but I really was just looking for a place to sit down, have a quiet and inexpensive lunch, and not be bothered by wait staff or anything. The staff were kind of off-putting and attitudinal, and I think it may be because I got the place wrong and paid in advance and then sat down; I think they were annoyed because they didn't expect me to tip (which is fine, because I was looking for a fast food-ish lunch where I wasn't expected to tip). The prices were good (I think everything was under $10). The food was good in terms of taste, but my french fries were cold. Also, the music was kind of loud pop music. Not really my thing.

I have had many good meals here but today I was so disappointed. I ordered a Capri panini with avocado instead of mozzarella. When ordered, they didn't tell me they were out of mozzarella so they gave me a sandwich with two slices of tomato and 3 leaves of basil. I called again and asked for extra basil and they sent me 3 more leaves. I am not sure how expensive basil is nowadays (except that it's super cheap) so I think they could've at least given me some basil for my tomato sandwich.

One of the underrated establishments on Drexel's campus, Savas succeeds on various levels. My favorite menu item is the Chopped salad, which I order all the time; simple, delicious, healthy option. Second would have to be the wraps and paninis, followed by the pizza. But to top it all off, they have a wide selection of beer. It takes the best of Ed's and Mad Greeks and puts them into one building (except for Ed's wings). Everything at Savas is well-prepared and very satisfying.

  • Casey B.

Oh Savas.... you make me miss college. The slices are huge and delicious (I've heard that they've gone downhill of late but I stubbornly refuse to believe it). There's a bar here, so you can drink if you want, but.... I'd recommend skipping that and saving all your room for the pizza, chicken fingers (with honey mustard of course), fries (dipped in ranch of course), salads, paninis... you get where I'm going with this. Good, low-maintenance, reasonably priced drunk OR sober food. I like it. I like it a lot.

This is basically where every Drexel student lives...or at Landmark. Savas was always one of my favorite places to eat at when I was in undergrad. Breakfast, lunch or, dinner- I was always satisfied. I would pick up food on my way home from class while I'm in my sweats or I would get it delivered. Service is speedy quick! My top 5 items on the menu would have to be: -French toast -Baked ziti -Grilled chicken platter -Spinach and ricotta pizza -Southwestern panini with EXTRA jalapenos Savas also sells beer so my friends and I would stop by to pick up a case about once a week. They also have a bar inside. Only sat at the bar for a drink once because they never really have any drink specials. Overall, the food is great and I love this place!! Go check it out!

When its late at night and you want something to eat , any of the pizza places in the area is a good place to call. We usually order buffalo wings , i think their wings is okey and sauce is too salty but my friend likes it so it works out . We came in one day to get pizza slices , the girl behind the cash register was rude and snotty . When she saw us standing in front of her , she did not ask the typical "what can I get you " instead it was just a blank stare . When I placed my order , she started laughing . There are way too many pizza places in the area for you to act like a child . Even children could behave better than you . With so many competition in university city ; keep up with the behavior !

"It's not shitty, but it's not spectacular"- as my complaining friend says across staring at his ordered "dry panini" we've been here before and the foods been better, but this time not as good.

I've been here a bunch of times since I went to Drexel. Their food is decent with a nice selection of pizza, panins, wraps, brunch items, etc. It is standard American/Italian food. I wouldn't rave about. The prices are decent. Fortunately they're open til 2am or something awesome like that so go get your drunchies on people.

This is a regular American restaurant, but one I could not have lived without during my time at Drexel. I always go back because the food is so good. I wish it was closer to main campus so people would go here more often rather than Landmark because Savas food is so much better. I've always gotten delivery and sat in to eat and have never regretted it! The bar is a little whatever and overpriced though, I wish that was better. Favorite dishes: Baked ziti - SO GOOD, very cheesy and if you add veggies like zucchini and peppers it is even better Penne alfredo - simple dish, but somehow just better at Savas Fiesta pizza - 24/7 craving this and have intro'd it to my Virginia cousins who love it and always ask for it when I visit

Went on an awkward first date and it was fine. Tried the grilled chicken salad and the spinach ricotta white pizza. I'd say it's upscale college pizza. Happy hours beer was a great deal - $3.00 for a Magic Hat. I liked the outdoor seating, but the inside has a weird vibe. Or maybe it was my weird date.

I've gotten delivery from Savas before with some coworkers. Usually I get the chicken quesadilla. It's a pretty big portion that I can split with someone. It comes with fries and guacamole and salsa. The next time around, I actually went to the restaurant with an old friend. Service was a bit quiet; I only noticed one person taking orders. I ordered the BBQ chicken panini. The sandwich was large and cut in two and came with an order of fries. The panini came out toasty and was very filling. I ate half the sandwich and packed the other half. Service could use a bit of improvement..it took a bit of time to get the check squared away.

The more I order different foods from Savas, the more I am disappointed. I still give them three stars because I do love the things that I order regularly and I think the service is great. Unfortunately, the majority of their menu probably merits a two star review. I'll definitely keep going there, but I won't be trying anything new.

I stopped in here on my lunch break two days straight a few days ago. I wasn't sure what to expect. I am admittedly not familiar with this neighborhood and section of the city, however, my expectations were far surpassed. The service is quick and friendly. On my first day, the girl behind the counter told me their burgers were awesome and to get the "Bonzai" burger. I did. Great recommendation. Burger came with pineapple and teriyaki sauce and there fries are identical to Five Guys fries... On day 2, I went right for another burger. This time, it was the "Thio Jose". Jalapeños and a special sauce which didn't disappoint... To be specific, it's not just the specialities of their burger options but the burger itself and the bun it's put on. Really great stuff for the price as well. This place is worth recommending and even a short drive, if you're not close, just to try it.

Another good ordering experience from Savas. Initially our address wasn't popping up in their delivery system, but the woman called back with a manager and they were able to find us using a slightly different address. Both the woman and the male manager were very nice and friendly. Pizza came promptly and still piping hot!

As a Drexel student, I take my pizza very seriously. With the myriad of pizza places around University City, you need to choose the best one to claim your loyalty to. Sava's does not just have amazing pizza (I mean, they do, their BBQ chicken and Fiesta slices are ENORMOUS and delicious!), but their paninis, wraps, and stromboli are also amazing. And don't get me started on their fries - imagine boardwalk fries in a restaurant, fried in delicious peanut oil! It's also more than a regular pizza place because it looks like a pretty nice restaurant inside. The staff is really attentive and makes sure you get your food ASAP. They also have a really awesome selection of craft beers right at the counter for you to take home - it doesn't get much better than that!

Waited nearly 20 minutes for my pick up order, but got home and had cold fries. It was only a turkey burger. Every time I go here, the food is mediocre, and the service is so slow. Three people walked from the kitchen to the restaurant, and yelled back for someone else to come get the counter. They didn't even seem to notice until a few more people started to wait behind me.

This place is amazing! Big portions with great prices! Although the deliver takes a little bit longer, it's totally worth it. They have everything on the menu that you could be craving. Wings, cheese fries and the Stromboli were so good!

  • Nazee Z.

This place is good bar food, that's really all. The slices used to be huge but recently they're shrunk up, makes me sad. Everything is moderately priced so it's not really worth what you're getting. My go to however, is delicious. I get a chicken panini, but I replace the honey mustard with the chipotle sauce. Adds a bit of spicey-ness and makes it quite delicious. I still crave that panini

We are students at Drexel Law, and Savas has become a staple in our diet. We usually get the buffalo chicken pizza, which is exceptional. The take-out pizza is quick, cheap, and good, which is why so many Drexel students go there. The sit-down dining is very good as well, with an impressive menu catering to many different tastes. I have tried the gyro, which is pretty good (but light on the Tzatziki sauce), and the fries, which come in a very large portion and are good and crunchy. Jess had the chicken quesadilla, which was good, but nothing special. She is a big fan of the Nutella french toast, omelets, and bloody Mary's though. While we do not sit down and eat at Savas often, we will continue to be patrons of the take-out pizza and beer for the foreseeable future.

Savas is the bee's knees. Always seated right away without a wait. Food is really, really good. I've had everything from pasta to paninis to stromboli to salads. Prices won't break the bank and they give you a lot of food. Service is a hit or miss, but it won't stop me from returning.

Nothing really to complain about this trip to Savas in Philly! My friend recommended this place to me and said it had good wraps, so we decided to pay a visit! The hostesses were really nice and welcoming! We got seted at our table and immediately ordered a buffalo chicken wrap! I was expecting much for some reason, but I was pleasantly surprised! it was one of the better wraps I have had - perfect balance of buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. OH! And their fries were pretty addicting!!! Overall, good services, good ambiance, and good portions! I'd definitely recommend you trying this place if you are in the area!

Just pulled into Philly and needed a place to eat before bedtime. Our B&B recommended Savas because it was close and open. I had the chicken souvlaki and my son had pizza. There was a problem getting the order to the cook so the waitress discounted the bill and got me a free beer! They were so friendly here. A perfect introduction to the city that loves you back.

So you're a college student. You've got the munchies. Maybe had a little maui, but it's late at night and you don't want to walk too far from Drexel campus. Tucked away on a block including Ed's is Savas. You might walk past it thinking it was just a hole in a wall not worth trying, but you step in and see an array of pizzas on display to tempt even the most skeptical of foodies. Try the sausage pizza. You barely can hold it up as the individual slice is so big that it bend under the weight of the crust. The BBQ chicken is equally as delicious. Forget California Pizza Kitchen! You look to your left. A refrigerator full of beer. All types. You're the true college frat boy and had developed your taste for beer over your many weekends of pong and this is heaven for you after a hard day at the gym. Apparently they have more food than just pizza. You'll have to take a look at the menu. I never could look past the pizza! Takes forever to deliver, so just make the journey, step in and buy yourself a pie.

I love savas rodeon panini. It's good for people of enjoy sauces. Their grilled chicken is good so I recommend and they thing that has their chicken on it, especially the Caesar salad. They put a lot of chicken on it. Their pasta can be hit or miss, mostly because they sometimes come out tasting a but bland. I consider savas to be a fancy pizza place. It's has a very lovely look to it. It's a nice place to meet up with someone when you dont want to go to the typical pizza place.

Great food! Delicious Greek dishes, as well as amazing pizza! Portions are more than enough! The salads are great, I recommend the Bangkok salad or the Bob Marley salad.

This was a go to restaurant when I was living at Drexel. The Bangkok salad with no dressing was my very favorite! The paninis are awesome too. Only thing that sucks is the service. Servers were always rude and unattentive. Really Savas only downfall.

Whats great about Savas is that it's the pizza place on the block with a bar and six packs to go. The pizza is pretty good, the wraps were at one time really good but the last few times I've been there they seemed to fall apart and not be as well made. Overall a decent pizza joint in university city.

This was the first stop on my June 2013 Tour de Philly and unfortunately it was a bit of a stumble out of the starting gate. I guess I've been spoiled by NYC pizza because the crust was too bready for my taste, and the service was somewhat sub-par. On the plus side, the menu was pretty expansive and it was one of the only places in the area open past 10pm.

Sava's restaurant is a bubbly, youthful college atmosphere complete with dance-y beats and modern IKEA furniture. Although the service is mid-range during quiet hours and a little on the slow/mistake-ridden side during their busy periods, Sava's is a fabulous place to go for both Italian and Greek cuisines. Brick oven style pizzas with interesting and traditional toppings are a staple at this joint, sitting fabulously atop crisp, yet chewy crust that will remind you why your love for pizza began. My only other minor issue with Sava's beyond their somewhat wishy-washy service is the fact that I am loyal to Coca-Cola and they only serve Pepsi products (big whoop, I know; but for some it matters).

I get takeout from Sava's a couple times a week and tend to stick to the wraps and paninis, although their chicken wing bites aren't bad either. You get a good amount of food for the price, and although it is nothing special, I don't come here expecting a 5 star meal. They do have a nice variety of beer in the coolers behind the registers, so if you're looking to grab a 6 pack or something when you're picking up your food, this would be a good choice!

January 2012 Update The only thing going for this place is that they have a bar and semi-decent food. From the pathetic attitudes of the staff and owners, the number of problems with this joint far exceed the few tangible benefits. I certainly used to love it and used to think of it as one of the best joints in the area, but the only thing that is consistent at this point is the usage of past tense in those statements. Several recent experiences, all with rude and arrogant wait staff (I've never tipped less than 18%, most times closer to 22-25%, so that can't be it), exceedingly cocky attitudes, and they've certainly made quite the impression on me. It almost seems as if you're being shunned for stepping into their restaurant. Savas definitely has one of the better ambiances in the area (now rivalled by the revamped Ed's, only a few steps away), but all that does nothing for the place if they keep up their elitist attitude. Long story short, they've lost a regular - for good. Very very disappointing.

Wish I could give this review less than one star. This place had the MOST AWFUL service I have ever had. The food was cold and not tasty. It is not the cleanest place either. Go here if you like to be disappointed.

This is an interesting Pizza place. I'm still searching for 5 star pizza in Philly, but this place was a solid contender among the better 4 star establishments, in my book. The pizza had very fresh toppings, and the crust was good, but not amazing. It had a bready crust with thick, chewy bubbles around the edge (a plus for me!) but the crust was too thick for my tastes, and it was too uniform. I also thought that the pizza had not been cooked at a high enough temperature--it seemed to be uniform (no toastiness around the edge). This place advertises "brick oven pizza" which I think is misleading. I don't care if the oven is made of bricks or not...when I see "brick oven pizza" I think high temperature and I don't know what temperature they used, but the pizza looked like normal, low-temperature, more slow-cooked pizza. There was also a marked absence of spices on the pizza. All three of us who ate here agreed that it was bland. Thankfully, we were able to add hot pepper, oregano, and parmesan and make it more tasty, but I would really appreciate more spices (especially garlic) included by default on the pizza. The atmosphere in here was sleek and modern. Very clean aesthetic, but darker and the color scheme made it a bit warmer than modern decor usually is. I thought it was quite pleasant inside. It was oddly formal looking in certain ways, yet with low prices and while still being a pizza place. I'd go back here, but I think I'm going to keep trying other places first because I really want five star pizza. If this place wants suggestions of how to break into the five star zone, I'd recommend: * More spices, especially garlic, on the pizza. * Thinner crust * Higher-temperature, quicker baking. Yes, it makes it trickier to get it just right but that's the point. Everything else was good...loved the toppings and I loved the chewiness and bubbles in the crust.

I went to Savas to get pizza from reading the reviews. I ordered a mushroom and sausage pizza, and a strawberry milkshake (extra thick). The pizza was the nastiest pizza I've ever tasted. The milkshake was like strawberry milk. I ordered take out. If I would have been in the store and bit into that mess, I would have given it back. I know it wasn't just me because my nephew didn't like it either.

I went in to pick up an order I had placed online (which I had already paid for) and upon giving my name when being asked what order I was there to pick up the man behind the counter became extremely irate and told me that my card would be refunded and that I needed leave. When I asked what I had done to offend him, given I had literally said nothing but "Hi" and my name, he told me that they were aware of my feelings regarding "their" restaurant and that since I seemed to dislike it so much I could leave. I again asked what he was speaking about only to have an obscenity yelled at me and to see the bag (which I was there to pick up) thrown in the trash. Given I have only left one bad "Yelp tip" about them (very recently) I can think of nothing else he could have meant because I have really never made my feelings known about this establishment, for better or worse, in the past. Never before have I experienced such embarrassment and disrespect while trying to pick up or sit down to a meal in public. I will NEVER be visiting Savas again and I hope someday they learn how to behave like adults and not petulant Greek schoolchildren.

Before you eat anything, go to the bathroom so you can see the sink. I run to see it every time I am there. It is seriously a work of art. It might take you some time to even figure out that it is a sink and not some rich man's bidet. The whole place for a pizza joint is really clean and "upscale"-inspired. Very nice decor -- not even sure why they spent so much on it when its demographic is pretty much poor college students. The pizza is efficient, nothing crazy good, but the strombolis, now there is your winner. Great strombolis, can be watery if you get very vegetable heavy options, but still really good. Service is awesome. And did I mention it is open until 2am?! That is pretty much the best food you will get at that time. Enjoy. Don't forget, must see the sink!

I stopped in to try the lamb gyro here. I had high expectations after I heard from a friend that the gyros were really good here. I was very disappointed. The tzatziki sauce was flavorless and there was way too much of it. The meat was also flavorless and there was very little of it. The pita bread was mediocre. They put fries in the gyro which was just strange. However on the upside they sell a decent variety of six-packs, and the owner is really nice. Also if you get the pizza by the slice its always burnt on the bottom.

Great place to go for a quick lunch. I usually get a slice of pizza and a salad, and its way too much food, and it still comes in under $8. The pizza slices are enough to fill me, which is a hard feat to tackle. I also LOVEEEEE that they accept cards with no minimum!

For the past 3 years I've been living in Philadelphia, Savas has always been my go to pizza place. I'm the type that finds something they like and stick with it so I always get their plain slice, baked ziti, garlic bread or salad. On occasion, I've strayed away from these items and tried their paninis, hummus, fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and hoagie. Let me just say, I've been disappointed lots. Out of all those things, I'd say only their mozzarella sticks and hoagie were MEDIOCRE, the rest were well below average. Additionally, their service is horrendous. I come here relatively often, probably at least twice a week, and it's very rare to have a good waitress who isn't rude, doesn't forget parts of our order, actually refills our drinks, checks up on us, etc. As I've been a regular customer for three years, I've seen many waitresses come and go, but it seems like the level of service has not improved much at all. However, I have to admit that a few of their newer cashiers have impressed me with their politeness. I give this place 4 stars because their pizza is probably my favorite in University City. They'd have a lot more loyal customers if their service was improved and they respected their customers more, ESPECIALLY if they're regular customers.

This place delivers, in more than 1 meaning of the word. I haven't had a lot of stuff from here other than the pizza, but it has always been hot, fresh, and made well. The pizza is also really consistent. It has looked and tasted the same every single time. They're reasonably priced for a pretty good sized pizza and they do a good job with putting on a lot of toppings. The other thing I love about them- they deliver even if you're a little out of their delivery zone and it'll still get there fast. Savas does a good job of recognizing their repeat customers which is a huge plus in my book. Why only four stars? Overall though the pizza is really good, it lacks seasoning and can be somewhat plain at times. Would be great if they added some oregano or garlic and maybe some more robust marinara sauce. Still, never a bad go-to spot for when you need a pizza delivered asap. I'll order from here again and again.

Pros: -Good to Great food -Tons of Menu items -Great Aesthetic Environment -Deliver -Good take-out beer options (build your own 6-pack) -Serve Breakfast Cons: -Service can be moderately slow if you're sitting down (give your food 15-20 minutes) -Some of the wait staff are generally inattentive but some of them are awesome. Kind of a hit or miss. -No matter what hour of the day, it's top 40 music. Not optimal for relaxing. Overall- Definitely go. It's great food, and convenient.

Really good food, very very fair prices and our waitress was extremely helpful and friendly. This is a great spot to go to if you have a group of people who want to eat different things. They have great gyros, pizza, paninis, burgers you name it they probably have it. Also, they have a good amount of seating out side. Overall, cute neighborhood place to grab some grub. Only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because parking was a little bit of a hassle (street parking) and the desert was OKAY.

While wandering through the neighborhood during a Saturday visit to Drexel U. the hunger monster decided to pay me a visit. Luckily, my brother knew about Savas. Huge portions, a pretty full bar, option for outdoor seating, and nice waitresses. I ordered a feast. Philly French toast and an omelet. The food was decent enough, nothing too overwhelming. The one disappointing point was the lack of champagne for mimosas. Brunch plus no option for mimosas simply equals mid-day breakfast. It's just not the same. However it did force me to select an alternative and I discovered my new favorite cider, Woodchuck Belgian White. Yum! $25 for a feast for 2 and 2 beers- nice. Great value! I'd definitely come back.

I gave this place four, but really it's more like 3.5. Their food wasn't bad, and the portions were quite generous, but some of the dishes were kind of meh. We ordered the hummus, which was disappointingly bland, as was my friend's sandwich, but none of the food was terrible. I think that it was a reasonable deal for the price, and the atmosphere was perfectly nice.

Great location relative to Drexel's campus, but the pizza doesn't do it for me. What Sava's has going for it is surprisingly classy ambiance for a corner pizza joint. It looks like a spot where you could legitimately take a date, until you realize it's just a NY style pizza place. The pizza isn't great. The crust is too chewy for my liking, as you often have to clumsily tear off large chunks of a slice with your mouth or slowly nibble at your pizza like a rodent to actually do any damage to it; normal chewing is out of the question. The topping combinations offered are surprisingly well thought out (the Mexican-style chicken slice is particularly satisfying), but slices are often tragically underfired and served lukewarm, making for a less than enjoyable experience. Also, the people who work there do not give a rat's behind about service. They're always grumpy and act as if they're doing you a favor buy serving you their mediocre slices. For a nice, piping hot slice with better crust, service, and character I suggest Ed's down the street, but Sava's does decently if you're looking for eat-in atmosphere and a bar.

I couldn't be more disappointed in Savas. I work nearby at a hospital and my co-workers reccommended the place. The first time I called to order, the girl on the phone got my phone number wrong (after three times of repetition), and my order was never delivered. When I called to check on the status of my order, I was told that they couldn't get in touch with me and it was too late to get my order. They told me I could have a credit for another order. The second time I called to use my credit, I was told that no manager was on site to "verify" that I was actually due one. It was 11:45pm; the website advertises delivery until 12pm. When I called I was told that it ended 5 minutes ago. When inquiring about the time on the website, I was told that the time posted "does not always apply". This seems ridiculous to me, why post the time at all if they do not plan to follow it? I won't be calling Savas again.

It's the only restaurant in the neighborhood with any kind of atmosphere. Though it is mostly filled with Drexel kids on the most painfully awkward dates I have ever witnessed, it has an interior that doesn't make you cringe and above average pizza. It is a gem for Powelton Village.

I have to say, I'm a fan. Maybe because where I'm from slices are a little chewier, but I found that their crust had a nice balance, crunch and chewiness as compared to most NYC style and unlike most, I could actually taste the Pepperoni. Also, to be fair, considering that day I was having I must have looked like a psych ward reject, or that I was on something that was giving me a bad trip, yet throughout the entire time the two girls working the register were always polite. Maybe the satisfaction was equally due to stress relief than the food, but I really liked it and would give them another try.

The pizza here is very inconsistent. Last year it was terrific and was by only go to the pizza place on campus, but lately it has really fallen off and is not very good quite often. I have been going to other pizza places instead because it's quality has fallen so far.

I go to the Community Education Center on a weekly basis for an improv comedy rehearsal group, and have on a few occasions gone to Savas for some coffee. I never tried their food until recently, and have sometimes found their waitresses (always female) to be a little standoffish. On 1/29/12 I decided to go in for pre-improv dinner at around 6PM and was pleasantly surprised. My waitress Kaitiln was SUPER. Great personality, very attentive despite me being only one person. Everything was exactly as ordered and came out quickly. She was also very honest when helping me decide what to order, something I respect and which makes me want to be a repeat customer. I had the Chicken Gyro platter which comes with a side of rice pilaf, and a side of fries. The fries left me underwhelmed; they could have easily been out of a bag though I was told they are fresh cut. The gyro itself was fantastic, with fresh onion and tomato and the perfect spices on the chicken. It was kind of dripping in tzatziki which was no big deal as I scraped the extra off. (It also came with a huge side of it, though, which went to waste.) It was also weird that they put french fries IN the gyro, but they were right on top so again I just pulled them off. Sadly the rice pilaf was absolutely flavorless and a real let down. It may be a common dish but I hadn't actually had it in ages, so I was disappointed. That being said, the gyro itself made the meal and the price was right. $9.25 for the platter, $1.38 for a bottled iced tea and $2.95 for the fries left my bill at $14.67 with tax. I left a $20 because I want Kaitlin to know that good service like hers for a table of one will be met with a tip worthy of a table of 3.

I have been here three times for lunch and the wait staff is completely overrun. They don't even seem to have sections. You can watch the servers run over ever inch of the restaurant. I can't even blame them for the poor service. I can see they are working really hard, there just aren't enough servers. On all three occasions, my food was dropped off and I wasn't checked on again until 35 minutes later. Each time, I was sitting without a beverage for 20 minutes. On my last visit, it took so long that there wasn't even any ice left in my drink. When the server refilled my soda, I was left with a warm drink with no ice. The food would be okay if it ever came out warm. Cold pizza is meant for breakfast and cold fries are meant for never. I'm not sure why sure why they were blasting Dub Step music. I don't even mind that type of music, but it seemed really out of place for people trying to talk over lunch.

Sava's I know we just met and all but will you kinda.....marry me? I am head over heels in love. Sava's for me is like a pair of killer Louboutin strappy sandals that some green sales girl mistakenly priced for $35. The decor is sleek, classy and modern and the prices are tawdry, cheap and sleazy. But in a love it so much, just don't tag me in the pics on Facebook kind of way. Yeah $4 for a Magic Hat, and $5.50 for two slices. One ginormous, scrumptuous, "don't you look at me with those judgment eyes while I inhale this so vulgarly" slice of Margharita pizza, and another for a jalapeno, onion, chicken, sundried tomato, where, have, you, been, all, my, life slice called the Fiesta. I think I found the Holy Grail and it's good pizza and beer at a nice place for a miniscule price. Or maybe I've been abused by prices from living in New York too long. Maybe, but Sava's will certainly become my theraputic safe space.

I have only had the chesse pizza and tomato pie from here, but they were REALLY good. There were actual tomatoes and onions in the sauce, and real spices. The crust is great and toppings were fresh, not from a can. It was delivered quickly and easily. Good food! made of real ingredients!

I went to Savas last week and had the Belgian waffles for breakfast! They were perfectly cooked and they came with strawberries and powdered sugar on top. Savas is great, I've been here a few times and I've gotten take out. It isn't pricey and the food is delicious. Every time I have eaten in I've gotten excellent service - the wait staff is super friendly. Take out was delivered within a reasonable time. I definitely would recommend the wings and pizza, which I've gotten several times. The pizza slices were huge, definitely some bang for your buck. However, stay away from the potato skins, they were well below expectations.

Savas' pizza and food in general tastes pretty fresh and the ambiance is very chic and relaxing. I'm not giving this 5 stars because their French Fries are not that great, and although the food does taste good, it is not mind-blowing. However, the service is very friendly and nice and their delivery is quick.

Savas is a little better than your run of the mill college pizzeria in some ways, and in some ways - much, much worse. Lets start off with the good. The beer selection at Savas is really really good. A great variety that all types of beer drinkers would be able to enjoy. The same goes for the bar, a good selection with nice beers on tap, not too much to complain about. The panini's are awesome; always nice and crispy with plenty of gooey cheese if thats your fancy. The pizza slices are pretty huge which is always a plus with the college scene. The atmosphere is pretty spot on for a college aged customer base, that still sometimes needs to take their parents out to eat. Music + TV's = a nice atmosphere. Now for the bad. The pizza slices may be big, but they are just sort of meh. Nothing really is separating the pizza from Savas from any take out pizza place, and for a joint that sells so much pizza - thats a bit of a surprise. Savas also tends to be a little pricey, the taste never quite measures up to the cash you dish out. But the worst part of Savas HAS to be the servers. They always seem to have an attitude about them, get distracted really easily, and you and your food are always seemingly at the bottom of the priority list. Now, I am not talking about when they are behind the counter for take out orders - then they are fine, but as soon as they go from there to the dining area, you get the feeling that they think you are wasting their time by eating in their establishment. In addition to the lousy wait staff - when you are ordering for take out - best call before you get there to expedite the process, because when I say they are slow, that is an understatement.

I'm so surprised at the rave reviews of this place! We were pretty unimpressed. Run down block, nondescript decor, unenthusiastic service and mediocre food. My husband's beer was nice and cold as was the water. The menu was extensive but felt a little random. I had the grilled buffalo chicken salad - it was fine, nothing exciting. I asked for the side of roasted potatoes - to me, roasted means nice and browned, a little crispy....these came out swimming in oil with some slice onions rolling about in it. Nothing like I expected. The roll that was served with the salad was tasteless (just as well, less carbs). My son's Philly Cheese Steak was good as was my husband's wrap, and the fries, while a little on the greasy side, were good. But there was nothing special here. What were we missing? We definitely should have gone to a more ethnic location, but we were there and we were hungry!

A good selection of some light Italian cuisine available until about midnight or so. The service is decent enough. My personal favorite on the list lies with the stromboli. I'd recommend changing it up each time you go, too, to see what the different flavors are like. Though, as far as the stromboli is concerned, I kind of wish they would put a little more kick in the marinara sauce when I order a side of it for dipping purposes... I've also been told to try the quesadilla, which may happen next visit. We shall see!

The servers are always super sassy and the food is meh and not worth the price. But I keep going back so I guess there is a certain je n'ai sais quoi charm. or probably it's just that it's the closest restaurant to my house that has beer and mozzarella sticks.

Worst pizza ever. Had a sad excuse for a Margherita pizza- it was dry, not saucy and had old globs of mozzarella. Service was slow. Waitress was nice but took way too long for just about everything- the order, the grub, and the check. Won't be coming back.

Get the Greek food and nothing else. Best hummus and pita I've ever had, hands down. The pizza, not so much. I think that for a brick oven place, you better get your pizza down. The margherita pizza we ordered was...okay. It had maybe 4 small slices of mozzarella on it, so when it was baked, the uncovered sauce dried out on the dough, which was a little TOO crispy. It also took 20 years for our food to come out. The bartender was awesome, though.

For a West Philadelphia pizza place, this place is above the line. Perhaps my favorite local pizza place, they have a huge menu of Italian food, including amazing pizza. This place as easily become one of my favorite places to eat in University City... and the prices are very reasonable too.

This cute little pizza kitchen seems totally out of place for the location, but its definitely a pleasant surprise! They have a LOT of options on their menu and their breakfast items seem really tempting (Ive only been there for lunch and dinner). Their paninis and wraps are very flavorful. I tried both the southwestern and the garden style and was very satisfied. However, the reason this place gains 4 stars from me is for their incredible HUMMUS AND PITA. As an avid (and quite picky) hummus fan, I have to say hands down its some of the best I've ever tried (including some of the more authentic middle eastern/greek places I have tried). Another plus is that its extremely affordable (about $9 a dish with tip). The portions are really big also (especially the quesaidillas). I would recommend trying Savas with a small group when you want to go out for a cheap & casual yet satisfying meal

Middle son Kevin is in Freshman year at Drexel, so we have been to Savas a handful of times, usually with a crowd. We really like the enormous slices of pizza, pannini, and salads. I had a tasty great Greek salad on my last visit. Other treats around the table inlcluded cheesteak, grilled cheese, cheese fries, buffalo chicken pizza. Prices were resonable, food is fresh and service was good. They are busy, and sometimes it takes a while, but we think the food is worth the wait.

We had both the garden and Ceasar salads, which were both big and tasty. Ordered 2 pies: a veggie and margherita. The crust was thin and the pies were well baked, but overall the crust was too dry. There was a stingy amount of mozzarella on the margherita pie and both pies lacked a great taste. Savas is certainly a cut above the average pizza joint, but it is not in the ranks of the truly great pie producers. Service was excellent form our cute Romanian waitress, and we liked the spaciousness and decor. The prices are moderate, as our tab, including the 2 salads, 2 soft drinks, and a large and medium pie was less than $40 before the tip.

Moka's (the previous tenant to Savas) was shut down after they got caught selling booze to under-agers. (I'm not going to tell you about the time that I may or may not have been involved in a plot to break into Moka's after they closed in order to retrieve/borrow/claim some left behind hookahs inside. I'm also not going to tell you about how the tiniest of wimpy crowbars was used to pry open a door, nor will I tell you how the alarm went off with sirens blaring and guns blasting and it was intense. It didn't happen. It wasn't me.) Four years later, Savas has opened for the spring quarter. I wasn't expecting much to begin with and I was neither impressed nor surprised. Just another pizza/Italian place, but they sure did great with the interior and exterior. It looks like a lounge, but they've got a lot of work to do. I went on a relatively quiet Tuesday night and the bar stools were all occupied by students. Some people at tables but not many. 3 people greeted us at the front and told us to sit where ever we'd like. We chose a hightop and then continued to wait 10 minutes before we finally flagged down a server. Server was cute, extremely nice, and caring--just needs some more experience. Menu is really large and mixed. They have brick oven pizza, bar snacks, and various entrees. Food was ok. Price was ok. "Meh. I've experienced better". Suggestions 1) Need quicker, efficient, and attentive service 2) Music was great but could barely hear it, pump it up! 3) Dim the lights! It's a researched fact that people will typically eat more in lower, more comforting lighting. Better for my eyes, better for your wallet, Savas. 4) Less tables, they were lined up like a cafeteria. 5) Needs booths or couches to complete lounge feel. I am more than willing to give Savas many more chances (they've only been open for two weeks and booze wasn't too expensive) but sometimes I really want places to get it right on the first try.

Went here for dinner with a friend not too long ago. It was the definition of A-OK. The atmosphere was decent. The meals were exceedingly cheap, but as equivalently "OK" void of anything that I felt was spectacular. I had a buffalo chicken wrap, and my buddy had a chicken caesar salad. The dishes strike me as your typical pizza place food with a clean/decent sit-down atmosphere at a very affordable college-campus-location-minded price and the availability of having a liquor license! Woot! I'd definitely go back if I were in the area and looking for cheap eats, but it's definitely not the place I'd go out of my way for. I need to try the pizza. This is completely unrelated and does not affect my review of the actual restaurant but what were these people smoking when they got some shitawful designer to create their logo which is literally plain Comic Sans in lower case? I'm sorry but even if they paid the person in free food, they got completely ripped off. Their designer isn't fitting to mop Savas' floor.

I will start by noting that I have eaten here a number of times, sometimes seated in the dining room and sometimes just grabbing a slice to go. Eating in the dining room wasn't the most pleasant experience. The service was slow and scattered, a plethora of wait-people came by and asked redundant questions. The food service itself took quite a while, although I was very satisfied with a big hamburger and fries. The thing that irked me the most, however, was the fact that the chairs and benches are slanted in, meaning you are forced to lean forward slightly. I try to avoid eating while leaning over my food (except for noodle soup) so I found this set-up extremely uncomfortable. I am giving this spot four stars because the pizza-by-the-slice service saves the day. A slice of pizza and a real glass bottle of Coke (with sugar, not corn syrup) goes for just under five bucks, and the slices are big enough to constitute as small pizzas themselves. I have eaten for every pizza place around the Drexel area, and this place has the best pizza by far. Thin, chewy crust with a freshly crisped layer on the bottom and a thin layer of toppings, perfectly sized for mess-free eating via the folding method.
