Little things. They can't even be bothered to get signage right (see attached pic of "buffalo chicken" sandwich), so I guess I shouldn't be surprised when they skimp on other things. Low quality food plus slow service is a bad combination for any takeout place. Not sure how this compares to other outlets in the chain, but I won't be bothering to find out...

I think the prices at all Saladworks are too high, but the salads at this place are pretty decent. I would give 3 stars, but last time I was there I saw a roach skitter across the floor as I was waiting on my salad. It's a shame, because this store is in a great location and has the perfect clientele- hungry students with money. I have worked at a different Saladworks location which is owned by the same people, and I wouldn't eat there. They have completely unsanitary practices that would make your stomach turn. I can imagine that the University City store uses the same practices but it the food does seem like it's in better condition, to my eye anyway.

Salad and pastas, with some sandwiches and soup added later to spice up the menu. The original owners back in 1998-2000 were great - they had a flying fast business, low prices, and generous portions of toppings for salads and pasta. His sons worked there along side him and his wife took the till. It was a fun place to come, chat, and be around. Then an ownership change totally clobbered the surrounding students with a price hike, and even the staff was taken a-back. The bread given with the pasta and salad was smaller and all seemed less friendly. The new soups & sandwiches probably helped save this place, but the crowds are much thinner. The turkey club salad is good, with ranch, and pasta w/ white sauce is good, too, although I've found remnants of shells? or something in it before. Gia Pronto's opening probably took away some business, too.

Maybe it was the price raise on the Sophie salads, maybe it was a change in store policies, or maybe I'm just getting cranky, but I feel like this place has gone downhill in the past two years. Things I like about Saladworks: healthy, quick, lots of selection, free warm white or multigrain bread Things I do not like about Saladworks: expensive ($8.50 is more than I care to spend on take-out salad), a tendency to use WAY too much dressing unless you watch very carefully, sad pathetic amount of lettuce struggling to hold up your mound of toppings. (Seriously - when I first started visiting, they would completely fill those square little plastic plates with lettuce or spinach, then mix up your toppings with dressing, and then mix it all back together for a huge, tasty salad that almost always left me with leftovers. Now it's more like you've ordered a pile of toppings with a little lettuce for decoration. This puzzles me, because the lettuce has to be one of the cheapest ingredients they have!) The salads aren't bad, they're just not worth the price. If the prices on everything dropped by about $2, or if my salary suddenly changed to accomodate $9 lunches, Saladworks would become one of my go-to places again. I would just ask for extra lettuce.

Empty dining area at 1230 PM on a Monday should've tipped me off. Service - helpful but unsanitary. The young lady who was making our salad did not observe sanitary practices. The older short lady (owner?) proceeded to dig in her ear then walked over to the salad counter and picked random chopped toppings that had spilled into the wilted lettuce tub out with her bare hands. I'm surprised at the negative reviews: First off, the prices for the salads are reasonable. A selection of the salads is always $6.99 (plus tax) and then you have a few other ones which are a little pricier - around $8. My favorite is the Sophia salad with feta instead of bleu cheese. They always give you a warm roll and the balsamic vinaigrette is pretty delicious. The salad has candied pecans, chicken, apples, feta, and dried cranberries. The people working there are very friendly, helpful, and just plain nice. For a lunch run from the office, it's pretty good. It's a franchise and for a franchise, I'm pleasantly surprised.

If there was a way I could give 0 stars, I would. I wanted to add beets to my salad, and was told that they were "Not very good". Warning sign much? The vegetables looked expired, and there were meat/fish bits in many of them, which is a huge problem for vegetarians. Overall, stay far, far away from this place. If you're looking for a decent salad, go up a couple stores to Gia Pronto.

This place gets no love! Being a chain, you know what you're going to get. It's not going to be fancy. The staff here is always extremely friendly. Expensive? Slightly. But, the size of the salads they give you + your bread is enough food to fill you up for hours or even to split into two meals. Go for the autumn harvest and sub spring mix and blue cheese for the romaine and turkey. On point every time.

It was really obvious that the greens in my salad were old. Adding the quite expensive price on top of the poor quality, it's understandable that the place was empty.

Welcoming staff, great products, and affordable prices. The caesar salad is great! Try with the light caesar dressing - tastes just like the higher-calorie alternative. Will be back..

For $9 a salad I expected it be larger in size and of better quality. The Cobb salad I received was quite small and left me quite hungry. The chicken was terrible quality and was about 75% breading. I thought the chicken was croutons at first. The avocado was oxidized and tasted awful. There was way too much ranch dressing on my salad as well. There is no way I am ever going to saladworks again.

Are they overpriced? Yes they are, but that goes for almost everything around campus. I come here for convenience and an amazing Cobb salad. I usually only come on Wednesdays for 7.99 salads, but today I made an exception. Usually they have the strangest people working here, but today I saw all new faces. Fingers crossed these people stay. All courteous and friendly. A welcome change from some of the people that worked here in the past.

This is an okay spot. It's convenient, the service is decent, the food is okay, and the prices are reasonable. Nothing here will know your socks off. If a salad is what you are looking for, they have decent ones. Their paninis are okay. Same with the soup.

Way too expensive! The salad was great but only after paying extra for the "extra items" which are things I usually put on a salad: cheese, protein. Chicken is an extra $2.25! I understand that they are going for a vegan, health-friendly vibe, but they need to find a way to keep cost down if they expect to get more customers. Make your own salads start out around $6, when I was done, it came out to $11 in change! The portions were big and lasting me 2 meals but still. I am a poor college student, if they want my business, they need to decrease those prices!

Salads are hit or miss. But not bad. But my experience with the soup is beyond belief. I went in and got the Maryland crab soup. When I opened up the lid, the first thing I noticed was that the broth was a muddy brown color...not normal for this soup. But, commercial recipes differ, I suppose. I dipped my spoon into the very, very, very watery depths and came up with a carrot and a spongy *dark brown* thing. What could this be? It couldn't be the *crab* could it? I dug my spoon in again for comparison, and kept coming up with dark brown spongy things. And it hit me: this is the crab. Crab is not suppose to be dark brown. I have had maryland crab soup at mediocre eateries and cafeterias all over the east coast, whose soup undoubtedly came partly or totally from a giant commercial can, and the crab has never appeared as dark brown globs. It was clear to me that this soup *had turned.* Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. You're better off going to McDonalds. At least their food is incapable of spoiling.

The salads here are HUGE! They have the biggest selection of veggies and toppings that I've ever seen at a Saladworks (they even have whole wheat pasta!). The employees are "eh" - the ones I've encountered don't have much of a personality - but the huge portioned salad makes up for that.

I am a recent vegetarian and am SO happy for the convenience of this Saladworks! I love being able to choose exactly what goes in my meal and the caloric content. The salads are very filling and I especially appreciate the Wednesday specials every week! I'd definately recommend this place!

This is the most horrible make-your-own salad place I have ever been to, and on top of it, it is expensive. A simple salad of lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, corn and parmesan was small and cost me $8.75. The veggies did not taste very fresh and the dressing tasted like canola oil. I would never go back to this place, especially considering that for the same price you can go to Gia Pronto only 3 doors down for a tremendously larger selection of gourmet and fresh-tasting veggies, meats and even tofu.

i don't get what the fuss is. maybe there's some cholera lurking under the lettuce or hepatitis hanging out in the tomatoes, but i had a pretty damn delicious salad from this place after work one day. the price was definitely in line with my paltry budget, and the salad was agreeable to my gluten free diet. i'd recommend this place. bonus 1: right near the hospital so if you fall ill with whatever all the germophobes on this thread have complained about, then you're in luck. no long ambulance rides necessary.
