Great salads, although the cabbage salad is a little bit of a one-trick pony. Everything else I've had here has been good except the spinach pie, which is a bit greasy and sloppy for my tastes. Green Olives down the street has a better spinach pie and better soups, but sucks at salad, so you kind of need to hit both if you're feeding a bunch of people.

Thanks to all the Yelp reviewers, we decided to try Mazza for lunch today. What a fantastic find! The lentil soup was really delicious, the spinach pie was really tasty and the hummus was the best I have had in the area hands down. Getting ready to move to a new office at the Navy Yard, and Mazza will be a regular stop on our lunch adventures in the area.

So far we had spinakopita, cabbage salad, hummus, and baba. All were fresh and delicious. Delivery is always prompt too.

Mama's is closed and you're craving falafel. What's a philly girl to do? Check Yelp naturally. I found this place which is just a stones throw away from East Passyunk Ave after trying and disliking other Mediterranean joints in the area. Mazza is under new ownership by a great Philadelphian named Larry who is using a mix of his family's own recipes and the old owners recipes. Let me tell you, it works. My goodness, this falafel gives mama's a run for its money. Not only that, this place makes a MEAN hummus. This isn't dizengoff-esque hummus that's more on the creamy side, this is the thick stuff, perfect for stuffing a pita with. My Israeli fiancée gave this place one big fat stamp of approval. The stuffed grape leaves were served warm and were delicious and Larry's grandmother's baklava was excellent as well. My only complaints? The price is a little high for a take out joint, but maybe only a dollar or so more than what I'd like to spend. Also, the place isn't the quickest. We just walked in and ordered and had to wait about 15-20 min but it seems like they have a solid delivery business that makes the place busy even though we didn't see a lot of foot traffic coming in. Also, don't get the whole wheat pitas, they are more like a wrap than the fluffy white pitas. Mazza is definitely a south philly hole in the wall, in a great neighborhood, that's worth giving another try if you haven't been in the last 6 months since Larry took over. We will definitely be coming back.

I was dying for some healthy food while traveling on business in Philly last week. I was at some gym that I found- and ran across this place on yelp. It wasnt too far- had "healthy" in the menu- so I decided to give it a whirl. First off- maybe I am a philly newb but its in a pretty rough neighborhood. Parking was not easy, just street parking, and I had to walk a few blocks to pickup my food. Once inside- well, its definitely nothing pretty to look at. Actually, its really dumpy to be honest. I didnt have any expectations after that- but the food actually was pretty decent. I got the chicken kebab with veggies and grilled zucchini. Chicken was flavorful without being dry and the veggies were all good. I would probably order delivery from here- I dont think I would ever go back in the resturant though.

Years ago, ordered from here, but stopped because the delivery time was so long. Tried again recently, went fine. Now, at 90 minutes plus, after an estimate of an hour, for an order of hummus after a bean salad and falafel sandwich. Back to "never again" mode. Food's good, but the wait is always crazy, somehow.

10/27/14. Ordered at 8:24pm. Called at 9:35pm when the food was officially late and the owner unapologetically said he was waiting for the driver to return. We waited 20 more minutes. It was now 10pm. By then my 3-year-old son had already eaten and we had to put him to bed. We called repeatedly at 10pm and the line was always busy. We messaged grubhub that that the food was a no-show and to pls issue a refund. I shut down my pc and started for bed. Then the food did arrive but by then it was irrelevant. We would have liked to reject it for a full refund but grubhub doesn't allow that. I asked how much of a discount we'd be getting. He just stammered,"It is extremely late," and scurried away. Grubhub got the owner to cough up a partial refund but not before he called me a liar. If he took any pride in his biz instead of being a cheapskate he would have apologized and taken responsibility for his blunders rather than blaming and name-calling his dissatisfied customers.

Looking for healthy delivery on Grubhub, I came across Mazza. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I was very excited to see they had a veggie combo platter. Everything was good. It came with two pieces of perfectly fluffy pita. The baba was perfectly smoky and creamy, and the hummus was some of the best I've had. I also liked the bean salad and tabouleh. The dolmas were enjoyable but the falafel was just okay. That's fine with me, however, considering how delicious everything else was. My order lasted me two meals. Honestly, this is the best delivery food I've had in a long long time.

I've been wanting to go to Mazza for a while, but never had the opportunity during lunch. On a slow day I drove the 15+ minutes to grab a bite. I ordered the Chicken Gyro, which comes with chicken, lettuce, tomato, and tzatziki. The service was subpar, no smile, no "how are you?". The total came to $8.10 and I was shocked when all I received was a tiny little wrap, more pita than filling. Severely overpriced for the product. Next time I'll drive a little further for a gyro.

Fresh and delicious! I ordered online and then went to pick it up. The place is tiny and I don't think I will ever eat inside but the food was inexpensive, and plentiful. Great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike so GO NOW :)

Amazingly tasty and fresh!!! This has been such a surprising find in South Philly.Homemade, tasty, fresh, and healthy. We first tried the falafel sandwiches which we loved, then the vegetarian platter which was a very big, delicious array of grape leaves, tabouleh, fresh and light homemade hummus, eggplant dip, tahini, falafel, bean salad, and pita bread. It was wonderful. Then the shrimp kebab... WOW. I keeps getting better and better. They deliver too.

I've ordered from these guys plenty of times. The food and delivery service is great. Lots of options too in their menu. I remember ordering a lamb platter once from here and when I got to eating my lamb, I started to think about that kid's show, "Lambchop," or whatever it is and I started feeling bad? Weirdest experience ever, but I thought that I'd mention that (time for the creepy stares at me now). Anyways, the food here is great. Check them out if you like healthy food that tastes great.

If I could, I'd give a 1/4 star. The food might be good when served fresh, hot, or even luke warm, but both times the wait for delivery was almost 2 hours!! I chalked the first one up to bad luck, but after the 2nd time, and the owner/manager whoever's casualness about the delay... I mean WTF half the order was ground chick peas!! This is my first negative review ever. I'll never order or go to them again just on principle. What jerks.

Only ate from here once (delivery) during a blackout because none of my appliances worked and I was the only one home, but, would again. Kinda sucks my family doesn't get down with the food. :/ Their pita pizza left a little to be desired, but, their baked wings & the garlic sauce that accompanied them were solid. Fast service, too.

Love the food here! It's always a go to for me. I love the potatoes with the dipping sauce! The only reason I give 4/5 stars is the delivery is very slow, I recommend you pick up or order 1.5 hours ahead. Try it out, you won't regret it!

Mazza Mediterranean - is a small South Philly corner Take-Out Joint that will cater to you with a variety of Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Pitas, Apps, Pizzas and Platters. Also Homemade Desserts. Vegetarian are welcomed. They do have a few tables so we sat and enjoyed the Falafel Platter. It included 4 deep fried patties, cucumber and tomato salad with a lemon and vinager dressing, hummus and sliced pita with a side of Tzatziki sauce. Food was good, fresh and reasonably priced. The owner was super friendly and prepares the dishes himself. This is basically a TOJ so don't expect elaborate ambience, but enjoy the'80's music playing on the TV. (Music Choice) We will be back! I'm always hesistant to give 5 stars... mostly because it's hard to compare restaurants to each other when they offer such different things at different prices. Mazza receives 5 stars when I compare it to the other take out options in the area. I've driven past Mazza a million times-- it's right on my path between work and home. I love mediterranean food and had been meaning to try it. So one Friday night when the husband was out, I decided to order from Mazza and pick up on my way home. I ordered a chicken gyro and an order of the three dip sampler (I have no idea what they call this, but its 2 pitas, with hummus, tabbuleh, and baba ghanoush, sp?). I only had to wait a couple of minutes once I arrived. Keep in mind the word TAKE OUT-- there is one small table, but its definitely NOT an eat in joint. When I got my meal home, I dug right in. And I was very very pleasantly surprised. The food was REALLY good. The dips were all very fresh and obviously homemade. They had some nice garnishes (chick peas, cucumbers, olives). The gyro was very good as well-- it was different than I expected though. The chicken was finely chopped and the sandwich was more long and thin than I expected. But it was super tasty. The total cost of my meal was about $15. I ate the entire gyro and a few bites of dip. The rest of the dips made a good snack over the next few days. I would suggest asking for more pitas (or having some pitas, veggies, crackers etc at home to eat the dips with) Overall, I'm really glad to find a new take out spot to add to our rotation!

If you like Mediteranean, YOU MUST GO HERE! plus they deliver! If you are vegan/vegetarian all you need is the veggie platter which comes with hummus, grape leaves, falafals, beans, chickpeas, eggplant spread and more. It's only $10 and it feeds TWO people. Sometimes my girlfriend and I don't even finish it.

We ordered from here last night and was pretty happy with the quality of the food...we ordered the Classic Dip Combo- and decided to add on an additional pita for .75 cents. The dips were delicious and and fresh. We each ordered the Lamb Gyro and it was great, my only complaint was that there was not enough tzatziki sauce. Overall, will definitely order from here again.

Mazza has such good food..I usually get the chicken kabob platter with spinach and hummus. The chicken is delicious. That garlic sauce? Good stuff. I have to learn how to make that at home..lol..the spinach is nice and garlicky. Hummus is up there with my favorite place in Ny. I had the falafel sandwich once and it was a bit crunchy but still tasty. Im pretty sure all the deserts are made from scratch. Try the peanut butter cup..a little pricey for the size but what yummy bites. This is a family business and I like that.

After ordering here several times, I have to take them down to two stars. The level of cleanliness in the store is just disgusting. It literally smells like piss inside. The back counter area is so disorganized and messy I shudder to think what the kitchen looks like. The guy and the older woman who have been running the shop recently have no idea what they are doing and just picking up an order took almost 15 minutes recently. The cold food storage boxes look gross and in need of a cleaning. All around just gross. Really a shame.

Tasty falafel and kofta, delicious housemade desserts, and surprising appetizers like the chicken cigars and the baked wings. The baked wings were especially good, covered in a tangy tomato-based sauce. This was a great, quick lunch option for a lazy Saturday!

This is so wonderful. Fresh, delicious and lots of options for vegetarians too! I don't know what I love the most but the vegetarian platter is amazing and enough for two. I hope they never leave our pizza/hoagie heavy neighborhood!

We saw the Mazza ad in the South Philly Review and decided to check it out. I am a HUGE babganoush lover. I get it whenever possible and Mazza is definitely some of the best I've had. Sometimes we'll swing by just to grab some Baba! For dinner, I had a combo veggie platter with falafel, hummus, beans and grape leaves. Sometimes falafel is overly spiced and falling apart, but this falafel was perfectly done. My boyfriend had the Kafta platter. We both could not get enough! The portions were so big that we both had leftovers (which we love!). You can get a great meal for two for under $30 here and you will not be disappointed.

We were in the mood for healthy lunchtime grub and found Mazza on Yelp. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. We ended up spending $23 on a hummus/baba/tabouli trio, falafel sandwich, and 2 pieces of baklava. The baklava was $3.50 each (big pieces, but super mushy and almost tasted like apple pie filling???). The falafel wrap was big, so fair for the price. They offer very tasty whole wheat pita for an upcharge. The food was only okay, nothing spectacular. We're sad to say we probably won't return.

This place is fantastic. When we first ordered from here, my brother talked to someone in the store for like 20 minutes asking questions, going over the menu, figuring out what to get for dinner. When he went to pick it up he gave us complimentary dessert and some soda. Never buying store bought hummus again! This place is a must!

Wonderful find in the south Philly area. There is no shortage of pizza and Italian places nearby, so this is a nice alternative if you're in the mood for something different. I had the spanakopita (spinach pie) and it was the best I've had in a long time- completely homemade and original. Also it came with more than enough hummus, pita, and a nice little cucumber salad. Very friendly employees as well- they converse with you freely and make you feel like they are happy you stopped by. It definitely is small and casual, so probably more of a takeout type restaurant. Overall I highly recommend this place!

I freakin love this place. Spinach and Cheese Cigar egg rolls to die for and then everything else is just gravy. Great Baba ganoush, hummus, everything I've tried is really good. This is one of my less detailed reviews but I'm just telling you that if you have a hankering for this genre it's a great spot. something for everyone.

I've been meaning to rave about this place for awhile. This is my husband and I's go to place for delivery in south Philly. It's really hard to find something somewhat healthy that delivers in this city. Mazza not only delivers healthy, their customer service is out of this world. I have such a huge smile on my face after ordering food (which I usually pawn off that duty to my husband) Mazza has turned into a weekly meal for us and I wish them all the best in 2014!

I love this place. We've ordered takeout from them at least once a month (to several times a week) for the past couple years and the quality is always exceptional. They know me by name and can usually guess my order down to special requests...I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but it works for me. Try their "fit for life" chicken gyro or their pita pizza and you'll see why I keep coming back!

I love this place. Not only is it a gem in the somewhat of a food wasteland in South Philly, but the food stands up to the best Greek/Middle Eastern places in the rest of the city. I usually get the Kafta platter, but the Chicken Kabob platter is also excellent. My wife loves the Spanikopita platter (a huge piece). The platters come with either a cucumber tomato salad, or potato wedges, or a choice of sides. The sides are killer too. Everything is FRESH. The dips (hummus, Baba Ganoush) are top notch. As good, if not better than Bitar's, although I love Bitar's too. For the kids we get the 1/2 chicken platter with potato wedges and hummus. The potato wedges come with "Dijonnaise", which is a homemade concoction that is truly addictive. Delivery is slow and the baklava is expensive and mushy (but big), but other than that, this is one of our favorite takeout places.

Amazing food. Their soup rocks, salads are great, and they usually have a special dish of the day. Always fresh, and healthy.

Mazza makes wholesome and delicious food. Mazza is an oasis in a world of deep fried and cheese laden takeout. Mazza's food tastes like they actually cook and prepare it all, including the hummus. It offers some of the best vegetable and vegetarian options in South Philly. Their house salad is a lovely chopped Arabic style salad with dark leafy green and diced cucumber, peppers and tomatoes. The best house salad in the city? Soups are almost always drop dead delicious. Ask about the deserts, their fresh cakes are often super fresh and yummy with that "made from scratch feel." I'd give them 5 stars except I don't like their gyro which is served as a long narrow wrap instead of juicy pita.

I wish the nice lady behind the counter could be my mom away from home, but alas, that seems to be the only option missing from the menu. Really great falafel sandwich, the salads are beastly, and fries are always a nice add-on. On an extra-lazy day, my roommate and I requested delivery, and we felt rightfully guilty when the aforementioned lady strolled up to our door with two little kids on one arm and our falafel on the other. Next time a nice family is making me lunch under 6 blocks away, I promise to pick it up myself.

okay, so i might be bit biased as this place is short walking distance from casa de me, but they are the bees knees!! absolutely wonderful in every way, from super nice counter folk, to really inexpensive grub. i've tried a goodly portion of the menu at one time or another and recommend the following most: the bomb turkey burger the hummous (homemade tasting...yum!) the chicken cigars chicken gyro i also hear the baklava isn't to be missed. (not liking baklava, i can't really say...)

    (5)
  • Davide C.

Another reviewer mentioned that she'd heard that "the baklava isn't to be missed." Madam, you have no idea. Pity that you don't like baklava, because theirs is really rather good. From one baklava-hater to another, give it a try? Though not being vegan or vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination, I tend to prefer to frequent places with somewhat of a vegetarian bent. Mazza fills that preference pretty well, I'd say. The classic combo, which comes with humus, roasted eggplant and tabbouleh is sizeable enough to feed three. The only problem is finding someone who's willing to share. It's so fantastically good that when I order it, I can't justify giving anyone else a taste, I'm afraid. Mazza really shines on it's platters, though. Appetizers offer a glimmer. Sandwiches a fluorescent shimmer. But the platters, man, really glow bright on this menu. The chicken curry is a good introductory curry for curry virgins, but veterans will find it not up to task. Let's leave curry for curry-leaning cuisines and talk about what Lebanon does best: kafta. The lambiness and beefiness of Mazza's sausagelike kafta platter is only accentuated by the nice-sized serving of hummus provided with it. Screw authenticity and the frowns from purists, but the kafta is omgwtfgood with a bit of hummus on it. Fork in kafta. Cut a bite off with the knife. Spread some hummus on that bit of kafta with that same knife. Put in mouth. Repeat. A good idea is to guard your hummus with your knife hand while feeding yourself with your fork hand to keep away friends turned would-be thieves. The half chicken is a garlicy wonder. The potato wedges served with it came out soggy on one occasion, but have been as crisp as celery most other times. Even if soggy, the chicken definitely makes up for it.

Good food, well prepared and the staff is always polite and attentive even at very busy times. It is a good option for a vegetarian and her meat eating husband. We can both always fine something to fit the bill. The cigars are wonderful as is the veggie gyro. Mazza is also very well priced. Pretty good desserts too.
