My husband and I ate here a few months ago. When I saw the reviews just now, I had to leave one. If you want good authentic Italian food, do not go here. If you are satisfied with completely Americanized Italian with little flavor that you could probably make just as well in your kitchen, then this is the place for you. The portions are very big - probably to cover up the mediocrity of the food. We had a significant amount of food leftover but chose not to take it with us because it just wasn't good. The service was bad. At one point we didn't see our waiter for a very long time. Turns out he was outside eating with someone. He was the type of guy that just came off as obnoxious and apparently wanted to schmooze more than actually do his job. We often joke about what an awful choice we made that night. I just don't understand the other reviews. There are much better Italian BYOBS in Philly. I would hate for someone visiting the city see that this place has 4 stars and decide to come here. Philly has so much more to offer than this.

One word. Heavenly. I seriously did not know that this little gem was located just a few blocks away from my apartment. My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and it was so great. We made a reservation the night before and was told that they were a BYOB. We came prepared with, of course, 4 bottles of wine. (Dont judge!) The restaurant is small and cozy inside and that day it seemed a lot of people had made reservations. The restaurant only had one server at the time so service was a bit slow. However, the waitress made up for it. She was attentive even though she was in the weeds. I give her props because it was busy! The food was so good.. It's so good that I can remember what we ordered and we went here 3 months ago! They ran out of seafood so that eliminated a few menu options. I would love to come back and try the seafood dishes. The eggplant rollatini- To. Die. For. I seriously did not expect much from it since its really just some eggplant rolled up. It was so soft and delicious and the sauce was perfect. Next, I had the carbonara and my boyfriend had the chicken saltimbocca. Both were so good I wanted to just dive in and swim in it! The food portions are generous so I ended up taking almost my whole plate of carbonara home with me. (Which didn't last long.... 2AM hunger strikes) Since they did not have any seafood, our waitress kindly offered us a dessert on the house. We really did not have room but who could turn down dessert??? We ended up getting the sorbetto which was refreshing and lemon-y. Price wise I think its in the right ball park. For a nice BYOB with this level of tastes, is so worth it. All in all i would love to come back to this amazing restaurant for any special occasion.

I'm so lucky that I live close to this restaurant! Excellent food, some of the best gnocchi I have ever had- and I am a huge gnocchi fan. The meatballs are awesome. My long distance fiance wanted to try it when he came to town after hearing my rave reviews, we went last week and had a fantastic dinner. The food is amazing, always fresh and delicious. BYOB does't hurt either. A great place to try, if you're in the neighborhood you really should not pass it up. John took great care of us. I would suggest getting a reservation because they only have three 2-tops and you do not want to miss out on this little gem.

I honestly don't think this yelp review will do this amazing meal justice but I will try! We were visiting Philly on a Saturday night and pulled up Yelp to find a good italian spot. This place exceeded every expectation we had! First, its BYOB (doesn't exist in VA) so we were already pumped and prepared with two bottles of red wine. We pulled up in an uber to this "off the beaten path" cute little restaurant close to 9pm. We were one of 3 tables and ended up closing the place down. They start you off with fresh hot peppers (spicy!) and fresh baked bread. I ordered the Amatricianna with the spicy sauce and my boy got the veal saltimboca. I literally cannot express how delicious both dishes were. We definitely would have ordered dessert - but I really wanted the Tiramisu - which wasn't a speical that evening. Did I mention all this great food cost only $42 bucks! We will definitely be back next time we are in Philly (basically planning a trip back just to eat here).

This Italian restaurant is tucked on a corner of cumberland and is located almost directly under the busy highway/freeway. We didnt have any trouble finding it and parking was also pretty easy, which was great. We had reserved an outdoor table because the weather was overcast but not rainy, and we also brought a bottle of red wine to accompany our dinner. BYOB is always excellent. Unfortunately as we sat down a few drizzles began and we asked the server, " what happens if it begins to rain?" he replied "um nothing we can do if that happens". Hmmm interesting. There is a covering along that side of the building but it barely extends to the edge of the (very small might I add) table. We just had to pray it didnt start to come down in the middle of the meal then I guess. I think because there was a large party inside the service was a little spotty, which they did apologize about at the end of our dinner, but still. The menu was impressive and we ordered a few starters from our servers recommendations- I can say that the fried eggplant mussels in white sauce were pretty delicious. It was my entree- the carbonara, which was a major disappointment. Just nothing wow for the $18 dinner price. My friend's bf got the special of the night which was branzino, but I wasnt a whole fish as I have been acustomed to, and the skin wasnt even that crispy. The orange flavored sauce gave it a sweetness that did not fit my taste. The lobster ravioli was probably the best, and even that was just OK. I think they warrant another try, but maybe after a little time has passed.

Came for dinner second week in a row and again the food and service was amazing appetizer was the meatballs entree sad to say I ordered the same thing from the week before "salmon rigatoni" and for dessert the tiramisu which was aaaammmmaaaazzziiinnnggg! I'm just in love with this restaurant it's a great place to bring a mate or just a friend for a quant delicious dinner! ENJOY

Can't say enough good things about this place! The food was incredible, the mussels are delicous. The lobster ravioli will not disappoint. The waitress was helpful and very friendly.

Unbelievable little BYOB that just opened up. So tiny and quaint. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend the antipasto, it was HUGE and delicious. The vodka sauce was also great! The pancetta in it was so flavorful. Not to mention, the prices were beyond reasonable. I think the most expensive entree was $19. I will definitely be back.

Not sure what happened to Eatalia since the first time I went but this time, they brought "pesto" to the table to go with the bread. It was a vegetable "pesto" which was quite bad and happened to look like hummus. There were six of us and nobody liked it. I then asked for olive oil and balsamic for the bread, much better. I then ordered their special, which involved shrimp, crab and capellini. They forgot to add the flavor :( Service was very good though. For the record, I LOVE hummus, but not when I am told that it is pesto. This "pesto" was just really bad, no matter *what* they call it.

Just moved here from Brooklyn and this restaurant is amazing! Very much on par with the best Italian places I've ever been to. Fresh ingredients, good service, and an inventive menu. It is BYOB and there is a killer beer store right down the street. We'll definitely be back.

I'm so happy to have found you. I stopped eating Italian food on the regular and so when the craving finally hit my search began. My Gnocchi Bolognese was hearty and delicious and just much better than I expected.

My fiancé and I went here for his birthday, we wanted some good homemade Italian!!! We were greeted by a young man, say early 20's and he was very sweet. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Out waitress came over and opened my bottle of wine and monotonely went over the specials. Then walked away. She never told us her name, and I was assuming she was going for a wine glass, but that wasn't the case. I had to flag her down for a wine glass and to open my fiancés beer, but she was busy so no biggie. I got lobster ravioli with crab and shrimp and my fiancé got the seafood risotto. Mine was AMAZING!!!!! My fiancé enjoyed his seafood but the risotto itself was nothing special. I went to the restroom and when I returned the waitress dropped off our check even though I wanted dessert, so when she returned and I asked about dessert she said it was frozen. That was so annoying first off all why would your homemade tiramisu be frozen especially on a Friday night. I felt like she was just rushing us out. That's why I'm not giving 5 stars. If definitely go back for an occasion, but the waitress with no personality, short straight brown hair and glasses was for the birds. I liked the young boy better.

I really like this place. The food was good and it was on the cheaper side as a bonus. I had a filet and lobster ravioli and both were excellent. 2 things were a bit annoying however - bread took FOREVER to come and my dessert (lava cake) was really lame and it took like 20 minutes to arrive. Domino's lava cake is ten times better and it's $4 for two of them.

I really love sites like Thrillist that inform me about different exciting places to eat in my wonderful city and this place came highly recommended on a "Best Italian Restaurant List." I was really looking forward to the food at this place, as I love the typical "Italian American fare" as described in some Yelp reviews. Checking the place out on Google, I could see it was in a very weird spot on the border of Fishtown and Port Richmond, a hole in the wall in a row home located behind a strip mall with a charming view of the Delaware Expressway overpass and a giant PowerBall billboard. The atmosphere was surprisingly homey with charming candles on the tables (though of course our table's wasn't lit) and an obvious crowd of regulars and dates. This was it's one saving grace, I think. I heard they had great saltimbocca but they didn't have any veal or prosciutto, so no dice. I also heard from the Thrillist review that they had great lobster ravioli but they didn't serve that anymore, apparently. The bread they brought out was kind of lame and as reviewer Andi S. pointed out, it came with some kind of disgusting homemade pesto that was physically repulsive to the eyes and the mouth. Leave the pesto and just give us some olive oil. I had the rigatoni with chicken and was throughly unimpressed. My companion had the fettuccine special and seemed to enjoy it, so there's that. For dessert, the only thing offered was some lame "ice cream and waffles" combo (no tiramisu? no tartufo?) so we paid our over priced bill and walked half a block down the street to the Rita's Water Ice for some real dessert. This place is not worth the journey to the ugly part of Fishtown, despite whatever a "Best of" list might say.

By far the most amazing food! We took our family here for our daughters 30th birthday. We had 8 in our party. We all like to try each other's food. Each and every appetizer and entree was incredible! Frank and his family are so warm and welcoming. We had a wonderful night and will definitely be back again soon!

Wow. How lucky am I that this phenomenal restaurant is blocks away from my home? No more will I have to contend with south Philly parking when I want genuine Italian food...no sir! So if you can put aside the fact that Eatalia has a name that is nails on a chalkboard for any Italian person, and quite literally situated under the highway, you are in for a real treat. The inside can only be described as quaint. The genuinely sweet nature of the host and server makes you feel very at home...as does the fact that I think this place used to be someone's home! Since it's small you will want to make reservations, by the way. If anyone has read my other reviews you will know nothing infuriates me like an Italian restaurant giving you a cold roll and a pad of butter. Eatalia gets it right, warm Sarcone's with a delicious roasted pepper pesto. The menu here is nicely varied and there were an ample amount of specials to choose from. I went with a pasta dish with broccoli rabe, sausage, tomatoes, and the perfect amount of garlic. The portion was quite large and it was just delicious. I really can't say enough about the quality and the taste...perfection! In conclusion, Eatalia is my new hot spot. All this and BYOB status...what could be better.

This is a hidden gem in my area. BYOB! Great service, great food, and reasonable! My husband was turning 40 this year and I wAnted to do something special with our family. Dinner was great they made it a memorable night. I didn't feel rushed at all. We ate, drank , and lingered longer than I'm sure any other restaurant in the city would want you to. Kudos to this place. Hopefully they stay around for awhile!!

Lobster ravoili is to die for! The chef knows what he is doing. Used to come every Friday night to enjoy a meal and always was consistant and pleasent. The wait staff ran by the owner Frank is top notch service with always filled water glasses. Never anything empty or left on the table and very knowledgable waitstaff of awesome specials.

Average Italian food in the $20-30 per entree range. The atmosphere was fine. The plus was that it's BYOB. They don't always take credit/debit cards, so be prepared and bring cash.

Wow, who would have known such a fantastic Italian Restaurant was in Fishtown. We started our night by calling to see if they were open 30 minutes to 9, (not knowing if the hours posted on yelp were correct) and asked if it was too late to come have dinner. The owner Frank who answered was more than happy to have us come in (you can usually tell when they don't want you there...but this was not the case). When we arrived 10 minutes later he greeted us with a warm smile and showed us to our table. We ordered the Clams, and a house salad as an appetizer, I ordered from the specials menu: Porterhouse which came with a wonderful sauce (I am not sure exactly what it was called but it was creamy, garlicy, and had black peppercorns in it) and a side of beautifully whipped garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley of zucchini, carrots, and buttered perfectly. The wife ordered from the special menu as well and got the Red Snapper. She enjoyed it but wishes she got it grilled instead of pan fried. To top it all off we both ordered desert...she got the Homemade Tiramisu, and I the Chocolate Lava Cake with a scoop of French Vanilla Ice Cream. Everything was fantastic, from the warm and friendly greeting to the SLAP YOURSELF IN THE FACE deserts. We ended up closing the place down at 10:45 PM (which I normally would feel terrible about...but the nice thing was we had a chance to hang outside in front with another couple and the owners for a while). We will def go back ....maybe 1-2 per week (j/k) ...maybe..... Thank You Eatalia for an AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!!

Every time we come here, the food is fresh & service is casual but on point. Tonight we had the veal florentine & pollo carchofi (chicken w/ sundried tomato, artichoke in garlic sauce). The depth of flavor in the sauces is amazing. The veggies & mashed potatoes are always tasty & NOT over cooked, julienne veggies are al dente & perfectly seasoned. Desserts are rich but not too sweet. Tiramisu is always a winner & paired with the espresso, is perfecto!!

Way overpriced for food that was good but wasn't great. Party of 6 came out to close to 200 dollars. 3 of the ones in that party were children. I mean come on, 17 dollars for chicken Alfredo and a little over 20 dollars for cheese ravioli? It's a disgrace to charge that much for something so very simple. If you look at the money signs it states there are 2 when clearly it should be marked 4 because of their prices. Don't try and drum up your business by charging outrageous prices but by offering great food at reasonable prices and you'll get more than enough business.

Tucked away as it is on Cumberland Street, I never would've found Eatalia if it weren't for Yelp and the positive ratings it had for the place. All of them are completely deserved, as my fiancee and I couldn'tve been more happy with every part of the dining experience. One of the managers and owners of the place, John, could not have been more helpful and friendly. He even warned us that one of the specials we were ordering (the crabcakes) were a few dollars more expensive than other things on the menu, after we'd briefly complained about the misery of paying for our own wedding. We got them anyway, and don't regret a thing, by the way -- all crabmeat, baked and served over some spicy fra diavlo sauce with garlic mashed potatoes. I loved everything about my meal. My fiancee got the branzino in a semi-sweet triple sec reduction sauce, and it was as good as my own dish. Honestly, we just ended up splitting the two dishes, as it was too hard to resist either of them. I don't Yelp much, but felt that I had to after that meal. We're both so happy this restaurant is in our neighborhood and can't wait to go back. (Also: Moving here from Brooklyn -- How great is BYOB???)

The food is very good and the service is amazing. My husband and I went in late looking for dinner and they stayed open for us and served fresh delicious food. I love that they do takeout too, it makes life easy when I don't feel like cooking!

I finally made it to this new byob spot near me. I was dining with 4 friends and we had a really good meal. Over all, everyone seemed satisfied. I shared an entree and salad with a friend. The Vitello Saltimboca was very tasty and solid. The spinach salad was very good too. Our table aslo shared the Eggplant appetizer and a special, which was stuffed clams with imperial crab meat etc. Both were good but the Eggplant was especially fresh and good and appealed to me. Everyone finished satisfied and pleased by cleaning their plates. The desserts were decent; Ive had better and Ive had worse. The service was super friendly and the staff was attentive and quick. Their house-made pesto was definitely appreciated and they were kind enough to indulge us in a second and finally a third basket of bread to enjoy it. We all agreed we'd be back soon. So glad this place is good!

I absolutely love this place, I've been here twice both times the service was impeccable and the food even better. I love salmon but couldn't find anywhere that does it very well so when I ordered it here I figured it would be mediocre like most places but my expectations were far exceeded. I Davonte's it down to the very last bite! Also the lobster ravioli was amazing. I had a taste of my boyfriends entree each time I've gone as well he has had the lasagna and chicken parm. Both absolutely delicious as well!

  • Chris E.

I will first start by saying that the service here is some of the best I've ever had. Friendly, knowledgable and there for anything you ask for immediately without being over bearing. Now to the food, we started off with the antipasto, a weekend special, and it was amazing. Prosciutto, mortadella, sharp provolone, stuffed peppers and many other things, marinated in a delicious oil, it was perfect. I got the porterhouse steak special next topped with Gorgonzola and an amazing steak sauce. Cooked veggies and mashed potatoes on the side, it was perfectly cooked and everything went perfect with the next thing. My girlfriend got the lasagna which had the best mozzarella cheese I've had, and the sauce was also amazing. We got the Tierra massou finally and that was perfect as well. Between the perfect food and the great service I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I love this place! We have been several times and the owner and his wife are lovely. The food is delicious and they are very accommodating. I have never had one bad dish there and they have great specials! They don't mind us making special requests for our toddler, and he loves the food there too. The service is great and everyone is very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Ate here a few weeks back . It has big shoes to fill in the old location of Bistro Juliana. Love the BYO. I thought the food prices were a little high. For Apps we had the stuffed long hots which were excellent their gnocchi was well made and fresh. For dessert we ordered the cannoli's a little weak/pricey 2 mini cannoli's for 7 dollars wasn't happy with that. Overall a good meal prices seemed a little high but thats how most BYO's operate.

eatalia is a decent Italian restaurant. byob is always a plus. it's in a strange location for this type of food/place. friendly service but a bit on the slow side at times during our meal. food was good but not amazing. some items were better than others. we've tried a lot of Italian places all over philly and are a bit spoiled. eatalia is very good for the area it's in but we've had better in philly (some places in south philly and center city are tough to beat). overall a cozy place and it's easy to find parking right outfront. good if you live in the area but wouldn't go out of my way for it..

I feel compelled to write about my awful experience at Eatalia as a warning so others don't waste their time here! The food and service were both abysmal. Seriously, don't go! First, the service was memorably, traumatically terrible. The waiter seemed either really incompetent or just really unintelligent and could not hold a conversation or say a complete sentence to save his life. He sort of told us the specials, but he gave them all 3 word descriptions like "chicken in sauce," so we were left wondering what the specials really were (and he clearly had no clue). He didn't say any specials I was interested in, so I ordered the spaghetti carbonara off the standard menu. Important side note-- my favorite, go-to item on any Italian menu, as boring as it sounds, is bolognese. I love it! However there was not a bolognese on the menu, hence why I ordered carbonara. This is important because... About 15 minutes after we placed our orders, a different waitress appeared to serve a large group seated next to us. She seemed slightly more talented and began describing the specials loudly enough for us to overhear. What's that I hear? Gnocchi bolognese? HE NEVER TOLD US THAT ONE! Oh, I was pissed. That is totally what I would have gotten! I've never had a waiter just straight up forget to say all the specials before, wtf. Even still, I tried to be polite and optimistically assume the carbonara would be alright... Out comes the most flavorless, pointless plate of food I have ever had. Carbonara, for those who haven't had it, is a rich pasta dish made with cheese, eggs, pancetta, garlic, and peas. It's pretty hard to make ingredients like that taste like literally nothing, and yet what was placed in front of me had zero flavor whatsoever. Just a bowl full of pointless, flavorless calories. I started drowning it in salt and pepper because I was really hungry, so in the end I essentially ate salt and pepper flavored pasta. To boot, we started off with a couple of appetizers that sounded promising but tasted terrible -- meatballs that had no seasoning and were way overcooked, and a jersey tomato/cucumber salad in which all of the tomatoes were whitish pink. We also got a complementary basket of slightly stale, low quality bread and a dish of something described as "veggie pesto" (sounds delicious, right?) that once again literally tasted like nothing. Seriously, I think it was made from tofu and red food dye. We spent quite a while trying to figure out what vegetable could possibly have so little flavor, and what on earth they felt made this gloppy stuff qualify as pesto. All in all, my date night out with the man, other than his wonderful company, was a total wash. I genuinely want my $70 back so I can take it to a place where the food and service are at least passable! Save yourself time, money, and worthless calories and go to one of the many, many other Italian BYO's in Philly.

I don't see how anyone would have anything bad to say! This place is literally perfection. The food is hands down delicious & taste homemade. It's family owned & has a really cozy vibe to it. PS: it's BYOB don't forget!!!!

Easily one of the best Italian meals I've had. Excellent appetizers (roasted peppers and artisan cheese, bruchetta, caprese) and awesome pasta with a spicy arribiatiana sauce. Liked the lemoncello cake for dessert. Shaun, our waiter, was funny and informative. Highly recommend this inconspicuous but great place.

I went to Eatalia on January 17 with a group of 8. I loved this place when it was Bistro Juliana but I must say like it even better under the new owners. We started off with 5 apps: Eggplant Rollentini, Clams (vongole) in white, bruschetta, grilled calamari (a special), and stuffed peppers (a special). There wasn't a scrap left! Everything was delicious with the Rollentini and bruschetta being my 2 favorites of the 5. Also, the bread they serve is very fresh, warn and tasty. For dinner, I was debating between the chicken carciofo and the lasagna (a special last night). The owner pointed out that I could have the chicken any night so why not go with the special. I am so glad I did! It was probably the best lasagna I have ever had. My 7 companions were all more than satisfied with their meals as well. For dessert, 1 friend ordered Tiramisu, which I tried. It was very good. The only downside to the entire meal were the cream puffs. 4 of my friends ordered them and not 1 of them enjoyed them as they seemed overly stale (as opposed to the slight staleness they normally have). But I would never judge the place based on the cream puffs as they are not a dessert I normally enjoy anyway. Finally, the bill came and it was so reasonable that at first I thought they had somehow made a mistake. Obviously, Eatalia being a BYO helps to keep the price down. And an extra bonus is that they even though they are a small establishment (seats up to 32 by my count), they take reservations. It's so great to have a restaurant like Eatalia in the Port Richmond/Fishtown area.

Eat here every few weeks, food is always excellent. Get the lobster ravioli, also had meat sauce with gnocchi on New Years and it was amazing! The veggie spread for the bread, I crave it. Really like the waitstaff, friendly and attentive. They now recognize us, which I really love about a place. The owner is super nice and always checks in. It's a small place but they really do the best with what they have. Really hope they do well!

This place was great - amazing service (seriously top notch), great food & a good vibe. Highlights were the lasagna, eggplant rolls, stuff long hots & MY GOD THE DESSERTS WERE UNREAL (and I'm not a dessert guy). A very good sweet red sauce on all the dishes. Funny thing is, if you live in Center City & have a car, this place is easier to get to (factoring in parking) then most places in Center City. Only downside was, we went on a Sunday and the bread tasted like yesterday's Amoroso's re-heated in an oven.... to get to the next level, you need fresh bread IMO. HIGHLY recommended.

  • Risa D.

Definitely satisfied my craving for pasta. The artichokes were perfectly tart, the garlic chunks so soft, and the sundried tomatoes had flavor. The linguine was al-dente, which I love. The chicken was a perfect breast, not overly cooked, and paired well with the rest of the meal. I will be getting food from here again as they are take out as well! Score!

We ate here last night to celebrate my boyfriend's 32nd birthday. We spent a week in Rome about 6 months ago, and wanted to eat somewhere to relive that experience as best as possible - so we went with Eatalia. Let me start off by saying everything we had was exceptional. We wanted to go all out (as we did when dining out in Rome,) so we ordered the arugula salad, the peperoni (cheese plate with roasted red peppers and olives,) the chicken marsala entree, and one of the entree specials of the evening, gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce. Everything tasted so real, fresh, and authentic. It brought us right back to Rome. We capped the evening off right with the strawberry/banana crepe and some espresso. Do NOT skip coffee and dessert here! I know you will probably be stuffed but you will be so glad you did. Portions were perfect and the service was some of the best I've had in a while. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was able to make great suggestions. This place is a BYOB - and we decided the occasion was worthy of breaking out our last bottle of Brunello that we brought home from Italy. I'm so glad we did! This place is a jem. I can't wait to come back with friends and family!

Finally had the chance to grab a bite to eat here. I was so excited to see another Italian spot pop up here. The quality of the food was great as well as the service. I look forward to dining here again with friends. Although it is unfortunate that it is located off the beaten path. It can actually be hard to spot since it blends in with the facade of other homes on the block.

This was the spot for friends birthday celebration. We were large group of 18 and Eatalia had no issue accommodating us. The menu had plenty of choices and offered generous amount of specials. The table shared clams in red sauce & white wine, bruschetta and roasted peppers and cheese. I ordered the house salad and tuna special over broccoli rabe with clams, mussels and calamari. I asked to have tuna prepared rare and to have the shellfish on the side. Tuna was medium rare more towards well & shellfish was on another plate with red sauce. My meal was good. Others had pasta, filet and chicken entrees. The desserts, tiramisu, lemon marscarpone cake looked good too. It was hard not trying the bread with what looked liked pesto dipping sauce or order pasta. I would go back and definitely try a pasta.

After driving past Eatalia 50 times on my way home from the gym and wondering what it was I finally googled the address and was pleased to find that it was an Italian BYOB within walking distance to my house. I immediately made a reservation for four for Friday night. Eatalia did indeed hold up to the reputation laid out by fellow Yelpers. The service was impeccable. Our server and the owner catered to our every whim, water glasses were constantly refilled, food was brought out quickly, we were checked on but not rushed in the slightest, and not bothered while we downed two huge bottles of wine while chatting and laughing (O.K. we drank that wine pretty damn fast). As for the food we ordered the anti pasta for four, I was a little underwhelmed with this as I felt a lot of the flavors on the dish tasted too similar, nothing jumped out at me but others at the table throughly enjoyed it. My reccomendation though would be pass at a price of $40.00 for the table. For my main course I ordered a seafood risotto, there was a good amount of seafood, the risotto was cooked just right, a very tasty dish. My sister ordered the veal Saltimboca, the super tasty vegetables (we want more, we want more), salty procciutto combined with perfectly cooked veal, spinach and provolone definitely made it the meal of the night. Her fiance got a fish dish that was on special, he seemed pleased with it though I didn't taste it. My boyfriend ordered the carbonara, he must have loved it as it was gone in less than five minutes. When it came time to order dessert I asked the owner if the tiramisu had chocolate on it to which he told me no (I HATE HATE HATE chocolate but LOVE LOVE LOVE tiramisu) my sister ordered a spice cake and her fiance ordered some kind of chocolate dessert, about five minutes later the owner came back and said he was mistaken and the tiramisu did indeed have chocolate on it. He offered me some icecream or something else which I declined. I was slightly dissapointed but really appreciated him letting me know before bringing out a dessert I would never eat. My sisters spice cake was delicious as well as the cappucinos we ordered. With it's super convenient location, great service and good food, we will definitely be back to Eatalia.

I was really in the mood to house some Italian food and always pass by this corner gem. I decided to try Eatalia and was so glad I did. The place is cozy on the inside and has outdoor seating available. It was a nice night so we sat outside to dine. It was like being in my backyard but having a fabulous waitstaff and kitchen attached. Our servers and hosts Frank and Mike made sure we were not forgotten outside and were always available if we needed anything. The guys took the time to give full descriptions of all the specials and all of them sounded amazing! Our app came out quickly and was a shareable size. Our meals from the specials menu were house made spinach gnocchi and a snapper in a triple sec sauce. Portions were pretty large and things were cooked perfectly. We finished up with the tiramisu and Frank's homemade cheesecake which was one of the best things i've ever put in my face. The service was incredible and friendly. I really felt like I was at someone's home. Such a great addition to the neighborhood I can't wait to go back. Thank you Mike and Frank for being so awesome!

The first couple nights they offered a fixed menu. The sesame bread (yum) was hot right out of the oven. Next was probably the best antipasto I've ever had. The penne alla vodka was delicious and by the time our main dishes came out, we were too full!! We got them to go but saved a little bit of room for the excellent tiramisu. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the normal menu. Service was extremely friendly and prompt. You could tell it is a family run business and they take a lot of pride in what they serve.

Finally made it here last night. I used to love the former restaurant at this site, Bistro Juliana, and was shocked when they closed. It seems that Eatalia is picking up where they left off, but there may still be a few tweaks that need to be worked out. It's been pissing me off that there is no online info for this place, anywhere! Cmon Eatalia, you can do better than that. We had the eggplant rollatini and antipasti for apps. The eggplant was great, came out piping hot and was stuffed w/ fontina cheese and spinach. The antipasti came w/ brushetta and potatoes? I was confused. I'd stay away from it. We had the salmon and veal saltimbucca for entrees. The salmon was cooked perfectly medium and came on a bed of dijon sauce that was spectacular. The veal was 3 decent pieces and full of flavor. Both came w/ sides of sauteed spinach and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were bland and boring and not too good. For dessert we had tiramisu, it was really really good, one of the best I've ever had. Overall, the service was great, it was BYOB, it was an excellent meal and wasn't too hard on the wallet. I'd recommend anyone living in the area to give this place a try I know I'll be back soon!

Went on a Saturday night in March. Hard to find in the dark and the windows were so dirty you could not see in or out. Seated us at a table near the door. The door's automatic closer was broke so every time someone came in the door stayed open. A staff member or diner had to get up to close it but not after several frigid blasts of air came in. It is a small place but the decibel level was like riding on top of the Frankford el. Our waitress came over and literally screamed out the specials which were at least 7 items. Ya think they would have them on a chalkboard or print them out so you could really think about them. There are like 10 tables in there, how much would ten copies of specials attached to the regular menu cost??? They immediately served us a vegetable hummus which turned out to be the best thing we ate all evening. Unfortunately it was served with several slices of Amoroso's air bread. I ordered the ravioli which were ordinary and nothing special but the waitress talked me into a homemade meatball which came in as a golf ball sized meatball tasty but so overcooked when I cut into it in crumbled into dry pieces. My wife had the ricotta gnocchi with pancetta and alfredo sauce. The pancetta was not crisped but limp and rubbery and there was not enough sauce. The worst were the gnocchi which were bland and tasted like raw flour. Salads and appetizers were expensive so we passed. Did not stay for dessert, had enough by then. Two entrees and the bill was $45 plus tip...won't be going back!

I've been here a number of times now and I'm changing my review from 4 to 5 stars. I love having this place in the neighborhood but it would be worth taking a drive for if I didn't live here. We haven't had one thing that we haven't loved. Their gnocchi is really unbelievable. I keep hearing their lobster ravioli and lasagna are amazing but haven't caught them on the special yet. The rollatini is still my favorite app and their arugula salad has just the right amount of lemon. This is a small BYOB so you might need reservations on the weekend, but there's room for you any weekday for lunch or dinner and you really need to try it.

Fabulous new authentic Italian in Port Fishington. Top notch specials, gravy, and that lobster ravioli... too good. Personable service as well! I'm almost hesitant to tell the Internet how good this little place is, because soon I won't be able to get a table. Would recommend 100%

Once again i am enamored with this restaurant. High quality food at affordable costs! Crazy! The staff and owner are professional, personable and are on top of the game here. We tried the specials and were very impressed. Cozy atmosphere and parking is no issue. Frank the owner sets the standard for service- master of the craft. I hope they expand and open up closer to where i live! Great job!!!!!

Fantastic food. Friendly and prompt service. I have no idea what possessed them to open in such a crappy location, but the food makes up for it, and I'm not going to complain too much about the location since it is so close to my home.

I took my mom and my sister here last night for dinner. Although I was a little late it was for Mother's day and I wanted to try something new. Coincidentally, I have a dining out black card and this was one of the listed restaurants. Before going, I read the Yelp reviews and decided this might be a good place to try. My mom lives in downtown Philly so it was just a hop, skip and jump to get here. I can't say anything negative except the tables might be better with tablecloths. The food and service were very good and we all tried something different. My mom had a terrific veal chop; my sister had a chicken dish and I had fabulous lobster ravioli dish smothered with crab meat and shrimp. I also had a stuffed portabella mushroom for my appetizer! We were all too full for dessert. I highly recommend this small, great little find on Cumberland Street and look forward to going back again.

I had dinner here for the first time last night and was very impressed. I made a mental note to post a review on here ASAP, because I wouldn't have even known Eatalia existed, were it not for Yelp! I live in Fishtown and, though I have some local favorites, I'd grown a little tired of the same old, same old. So I turned to Yelp for some fresh ideas, and saw several glowing reviews for Eatalia. I went in with a friend around 7:00 on a Thursday, without a reservation. We were greeted right away by the owner, who was very friendly and seated us right away. It's a BYOB, which I love (and there aren't many in the Fishtown area). While perusing the menu, we were brought a basket of warm bread and a small bowl of something they called vegetable presto. It's similar to a pesto, but made with zucchini, carrots, and several other vegetables. Absolutely delicious! I would have asked for seconds, if our appetizer hadn't arrived so promptly. The menu is extensive, and everything on it sounds delicious, but we decided to order from the specials. We started with a baked portobello mushroom appetizer. The mushroom was marinated in delicious (clearly high quality) balsamic vinegar, and baked with some sort of greens, sundried tomatoes, and provolone cheese. It was very light, in spite of the cheese, and was absolutely delicious. For my entree, I had lobster ravioli, which was served in a rose sauce with shrimp and lump crab meat on top. I'm ordinarily not a big shrimp fan, but these were cooked to perfection and I ate all five of them. The ravioli was fantastic, and the sauce was rich but not overly heavy. My friend had another of the entree specials, which was spinach gnocchi with a gorgonzola cream sauce. I tasted hers, and it was every bit as delicious as my ravioli. Portions are large, but not overwhelmingly so. We both brought home leftovers, and I'm looking forward to enjoying mine tonight. The restaurant itself is relatively small and unassuming. Like I said, I had no idea it was there until I stumbled upon the Yelp reviews. It's on Cumberland Street, east of Aramingo Avenue, and is so close to 95 that outdoor seating (which they do have) might not be the most enjoyable experience (though there was a couple seated out there who seemed to be enjoying themselves just fine). The interior of the restaurant is very comfortable and unpretentious. I appreciate this even more now that I know how excellent the food is, because it definitely rivals the best/most popular Italian eateries in the city, and yet isn't at all showy about it. We were waited on intermittently by the owner and a very friendly server, whose name I didn't catch. They were attentive without being overbearing, and took great care in making sure we were satisfied with our meal. For the first 40 or so minutes we were there, it was just us and another party of two, so it was relatively quiet/intimate. About halfway through our meal, a large party of 15-20 people came in and were seated next to us. It got considerably louder at that point, but not in an obnoxious way. I think that Eatalia is going to be my new favorite Italian BYOB, and I'm thrilled that it's within walking distance of my house. I'm looking forward to taking my parents the next time they visit, and am sure it will soon become one of my staples.

I went here last night for a relative's birthday. Everything from the pesto/olive oil with bread to the mascarpone and limoncello icing cake was DELICIOUS. We tried a bunch of apps (eggplant rollentini, caprese salad, grilled calamari, bruchetta)--all great! Very fresh tasting, great specials, reasonable prices, super nice owner and staff. It's off the beaten path a little, but now that we've found it, we will definitely be back soon! Plus, they take reservations AND are BYOB!

So, we went to Eatalia last night. Liked it, a lot. You're not going to find chicken parm in there, so if that's what you're looking for, you'll be disappointed. We got there at 7pm and there was only one four top open, and a two top. By 9pm the place was practically empty. But they never rushed us. There are only 28 seats by my count, and the dinner was paced nice and leisurely. We started with an antipasto that they would make to whatever size you wanted, (feed one? feed three? Just tell them. There were three of us last night, but we got it for one and shared some things.) It had mortadella, salami, olives, mozzarella, some little fried potato cheese thingy, stuffed something else, prosciutto, and the best carrot I have ever tasted in my life. Just a little piece of carrot that had been made with balsamic vinagarette and maybe bay leaf...it tasted like fruit, it was delicious. We also ordered a spinach salad, that had hard boiled eggs and bacon in it, and split it. Glad we got two plates, because it was rather large. I don't think we finished it between two of us. The entrees were very good as well, we all got veal. The Veal Saltimbucco was more the "roman" style, not rolled, with good cheese and spinach and a great sauce. The veal marsala was quite a surprise, because as it came to the table we realized that it was not marsala after all, wrong color, no shrooms, etc. But we kept it and ate it and it was delicious, and we have no idea what it was. I got the veal piccata, one of my favorites. It was also very good. Nice portion, not too big, served with roasted baby red bliss, and julienne eggplant and carrot. The owner, Frank, a sweetheart of a guy, said they had been serving mashed potatoes but ran out, and had no problem substituting pasta for the other diners entrees. He said, "Whatever you want, I'll make it happen". Love that attitude. The bread was good, warm and toasty and eggplant parmesan spread for it was also good. We ordered three desserts to share, but I think he brought us out about five different ones. It was getting late, I guess he didn't want them to go to waste. Tira misu was good, choc mousse cake, of course good, and I kinda lost track of the cream puffs, cannoli's, etc. Finished it off with three cappuccinos. The place isn't putting out plates as beautiful and perfect as Modo Mio, but it's good. Very good. Plus, there is tons of parking between the Thriftway lot, and Cumberland Street, or under 95. Total bill was $118.00 before tip for three people. Two aps, three entrée's, three desserts, and three cappuccinos. Also, take note, the correct phone number is 215-423-6911, not 432 which is the way it had been published.

We were very excited to try this new spot after reviewing the yelp ratings and sadly were left disappointed. We started with the special antipasta, a nice selection. The lasagna was lacking in flavor other than salt, the lobster ravioli dish was generous on seafood but overall lacking in flavor and too fishy. Finished with the Creme brûlée cheesecake, a nice surprise after mediocre entrees. Perhaps we are used to Modo Mio's level of ingredients and flavor. Either way, great to see a local restaurant addition to the neighborhood. We wish them the best of luck.

Wow! What a wonderful little BYOB in Fishtown. The food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. Dined here on Saturday. The staff was so friendly, as were the other patrons. The food was delicious. The porterhouse was cooked to perfection and was the best I have ever tasted. cannot wait to go back!

Our plans fell through a few Saturdays ago, so I suggested this new place to my husband to try out. We called and luckily they had a cancellation that night and we were able to get in. Great food & great service. Small place but nice cozy atmosphere. Have friends visiting in two weeks from out of state and we ve already put in our reservations. Great to BYOB!

I went to Eatalia recently on a Saturday night. THE BEST BYOB I have been to. I have been to them all and this little BYOB is amazing. Great appetizers, great entrees, and an amazing dessert. It isn't in Kensington though but the outskirts of Fishtown. I 100% recommend this BYOB. The owner comes out to meet with you and takes the time to get to know you. I even asked him to choose my entree and he was spot on. I can't wait to go again!

I don't generally write restaurant reviews, but...I was so excited to finally have a nicer restaurant open up pretty close to me, and ended up being so disappointed. Lackluster atmosphere, inattentive service - I had to wait forever for water, and then content myself with one glass the whole 2 hours I was in there, waiting for my meal. I'll be charitable and say the food was okay, but not terribly inspired - half the pasta dishes were just red gravy with one thing or another added into it, and I'm no chef but could have made better for cheaper at home. My dessert tasted old, and I don't feel like $15 is the right price for a smallish plate of pasta with sauce eaten while looking out at the loading dock and dumpsters of the Port Richmond Thriftway.

I have lived in Philly my whole life and been in the restaurant business for 16 years... and with that comes a love of good food and an appreciation of the entire dining experience. I was surprised to see a negative review in the City Paper about this restaurant, because my experience was nothing of what the "food critic" wrote about. The owner Frank made the experience great from appetizers to dessert. My friend and I shared a house salad, roasted peppers and assorted cheese plate and a portobello mushroom special appetizers. All arrived in a timely fashion, with a beautiful presentation and delicious flavor. I had the shrimp and linguine entree, and asked to replace with penne instead, which was not a problem at all. It was spicy enough to add great flavor without overkill, and they did not skimp on the shrimp. The portion was big enough to wrap up and take leftovers home. My friend had the homemade gnocchi...it was by far the best gnocchi I have ever tasted. We then finished with Tiramisu...and again, this was probably the best I've had. What's interesting to me is that the food critic said he enjoyed the cinnamon on the tiramisu plate, when in fact it was cocoa powder. Frank has created an environment of comfort and great food, and for me, that's all I need to go back and bring more and more friends. Try it for yourself, you will be very pleased. Congrats on a great place Frank, I will definitely be back!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
