So, Saturday was the birthday of one of my wife's friends, and they chose The Cobra Lounge (as they called it) to celebrate. This place seems to be a spanish restaurant by day from other reviews I read elsewhere (Puerto Rican dishes and the like) but I cannot speak on that as we arrived at 11:30pm. The place is fairly small, the DJ is up front as you walk in, as well as the dance floor (which must be extremely small because I never noticed it - I just danced by the bar and upstairs.) The DJ was nothing spectacular, just playing hiphop/r&b you would hear on the radio currently - no mixing whatsoever. There were 4 bartenders behind the bar, yet they still seemed to have trouble keeping up with orders for this small venue. There was an upstairs area, about six tables that seated four each - something like what you might find in a food court or cheesy cafeteria, and I think you had to reserve a time to be up there - but again, it was nothing special at all, and as my mother would say, "it was hotter than blue blazes" as you reached the top of the stairs. The drinks were about $6, I had the usual Long Island Ice Teas all night - served in a big plastic cup, strong like I like them. But all this for a $20 cover per person (no ladies - no discount for you either.) I don't know, I just expect a little more for $40 as you enter the door with your mate. However, I believe it is free if you enter by 11pm, I just wish I had arrived bevore the cover... But maybe the food is great - I may check that out one day, but I doubt I'll be going back for late night fun, definitely not if after 11pm...

The Platanos Maduros & Pollo a la parilla are delish! The Mango Sherbert Pie is light, fruity, and refreshing! The Cafe' de Olla is an amazing Mexican coffee (and I don't even like coffee Iike that!! lol)! The prices are great!!! Unlike the other reviewers, I had great service. I guess it depends on when you come; 9pm on a Wednesday worked out great for me!

So, I went to Cobre for lunch on a random weekday, should have known better when the place was completely empty. The staff was more concerned with watching Maury than waiting on me and my friend. The server had no idea about thier well-advertised lunch specials, even though they were posted around the restaurant in about ten spots. My soda was completely flat, and when I told the server about my issue she basically told me to shut up. My tacos were low quality and the plantains we ordered were burnt and served with disgusting sauce. My friend's burrito was small, bland, and not worth it. Don't go here for lunch, it might be an o.k. bar but skip the food.

I went to Cobre because I had a headache that only a frozen margarita could fix. When we walked in only one other couple was eating, which is a bad sign around dinnertime. I ordered a margarita which was terrible. The crushed ice wasn't broken up enough for me to drink and I think that they skimped on the tequila. We ordered an appetizer of guacamole and chips which was delicious. I could tell that the guacamole was freshly made and it had fresh cilantro leaves in there. I then ordered steak fajitas which were terrible. The steak wasn't tender and the vegetables were overcooked. My boyfriend ordered a burrito which he liked, but he asked for no cheese and they didn't listen. Another thing I should note is that the service was poor. We were sitting upstairs and it took the waiter forever to get our drinks after we ordered them. He kept apologizing, but even if he was the only waiter there, he had no excuse because we were one of two tables. I would go back maybe for the guacamole and a corona at the bar. All in all, it was not what I would expect from a Zagat rated restaurant.

i heard about Cobre because it was nominated for best Latino Restaurant in the philadelphia region by the Hispanic Choice Awards. My party and i were greeted by the owner and treated with great respect. once we place our orders and received our food we are all taken away the food was great This is a must go to Restaurant and it is on Board street very near center city. amazing great work ms. Guzman

I was walking down Broad Street and noticed this place did not look like its surroundings so I looked at the menu in the window and was surprised at how reasonable the prices were. I was a little put off by going into an empty restaurant by myself, but another couple was headed there right behind me so I followed their lead. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior and decorations, not too shabby at all. I was given their lunch specials which included the $6 Mexican portion or the $8 Puerto Rican meals. The Mexican meals included the normal quesadillas, chips, burritos, etc while the Puerto Rican had chicken fingers(?) and some other stuff I don't remember. I ordered the fried pork chop with my two sides being yellow rice with pork and tostones. The food didn't take too too long. The pork was flavorful but fried a little too hard. I like crisp, but not too much crunch. The rice was excellent and the tostones were pretty good and came with a garlic dipping sauce. The service was fine; pretty laid back, could be a little clearer and more cordial. But all in all my meal came to less than 10 dollars and I was satisfied. I will definitely return for the lunch special or happy hour.
