Best fast food Chinese store in philly. They don't drown your chicken in sauces and the portions are smaller than some other places, but the prices are great and the quality is much better. I go out of my way to come here. Just wish they had an ATM.

I have walked by this place a thousand times but I was always afraid to go in. Rarely do I see any patrons. But finally I decided to give it a try and it was pretty good. To give a decent everyday Chinese take-out place more than 2 stars is a compliment. So here is my compliment. The wontons were a little thick and weird, but the chicken and string bean lunch combo hit the spot. I will visit here again. Don't be turned off by the lack of decor and faded stock photos of Happy Family and General Tso's -- because it's often these places that do it right.

Their food is seriously to die for!! I am a vegetarian and they have a lot of vegetarian selections. They have even accommodated for me on numerous occasions substituting veggies for meat in certain dishes. The customer service is excellent. All around, a great place.

This place is a strange little nook on the corner on East Passyunk. Any time I go by here, there's nobody sitting down to eat -- I think the majority of their business is from take-out orders. Please do be careful when you walk by or go in, though, because they like to leave their sidewalk-to-basement doors open like a death trap. I picked up food from here one time, and it was made to order quickly, just as I had expected it to look upon receipt. The restaurant seating area has a few mix-matched hard chairs and small square tables - it really is not an inviting atmosphere and I'm not surprised that I've never seen anyone sitting to eat in the establishment. The front area also serves as a storage area for them - there are towering stacks of soda cases that sit near the cash register a bit strangely. Once I took it home, the food was mediocre - chicken a bit dry and the sauce a bit too greasy. If I'm ever desperate for Chinese food in this area, I may give it another shot, but probably not.

Total gross out. Both sanitation and karma/ service. Uncleared tables/hothouse environment. One employee accused the proprietors of stealing from her tip jar - I believe it! Another was dressed down in very nasty fashion in front of customers for what appeared to be trivialities. I went there for awhile for convenience - I live around the corner - but after they tried to charge me for a soda w/ my combo plate cause it was a bottle not a can (the menu just offered a soda as an alternative to soup or egg roll) and then got shortchanged - got change for a $10, not the $20 I gave them - after I complained about the soda. So I've decided enough is enough - voting with my feet. Food is probably typical of these places - not worse or better. Hey now I have an excuse to myself not to eat that garbage!

Really good take-out the night I ordered (both vegetarian and meat dishes). Not as good leftover.

Drunk and hungry for chinese food. Typical neighborhood chinese american fare. Main dish was good the only gripe was the egg rolls... greasy as all hell. I ate one hesitantly after a frw minites wrapped in paper towels...i was drunk after all. Shame considering the filling(minced pork and cabbage) was exactly how i like my egg rolls so that was dissappointing. I know rolls are precooked and sometimes twice fried on order but if your not gonna keep your oil up to temp durong business hours, just give me a once fried roll at room temp, thats how they do at reading market sang kee. Its still good and better than an oil sponge...even the litle oil tampon in the bag was crying for mercy. Im inclined to give it another shot earlier in the evening just because ot may have been a near closing time issue.

I am pretty picky about any kind of Asian food (I'm Asian), and this is my go-to for quick and yummy Chinese.

Solid chinese food, but nothing special. Mu shu pork is very good, good general tso and orange chicken, and mediocre won ton soup.

This is my go to Chinese restaurant in the area. The food is delicious for your typical Chinese take out. The people working there are always very friendly.

If you want freshly cooked Chinese food, go to China House. I have been ordering from this place for more than 5 years. The restaurant itself is nothing to look at. Old booths and tables and chairs left over from the 80's when it used to be Cravings. They cook the food as soon as you order it and they do not use MSG. Always hot and delicious. Their General Tso's chicken rocks!!!

When I first moved to the area, I thought their food was decent. The next time I strolled by the place, I saw one of the cooks picking his toes with a knife! I will NOT go back here! GROSS!

Okay- i don't speak cantonese, i don't own an abacus, and thusly would never be so bold as to claim knowledge of traditional chinese cuisine. i did, however, endure late-night college cram sessions and to this day get the munchies unaccompanied by the desire to whip out my own wok. China House on Passyunk is absolutely great if you want your standard chinese food- big menu with all the classics, super friendly service, generous portions with fresh ingredients, and not as greasy as a lot of chinese fast food. Delivery is quick, and they go pretty late for that neighborhood. I also find it comforting that when you pick up an order, you don't need to do so through a bullet proof glassed-in counter. i've never noticed any of the staff picking any of their body parts with the flatware (see Holly L's review) though i will say they are very very stingy with things like chopsticks and napkins and fortune cookies (you gotta ask, and even then they might hold out...). My old stand-bys would definitely be the cold sesame noodle (they make it spicy just for me!), the garlic shrimp from the diet menu (yep, i trust their shrimp), won-ton soup, and of course the general tso's. didn't love the kung pao chicken, but i'm wondering if that's because i inherently don't like the dish (mushrooms are the republican party to the united states of my tummy. gross).

This is a run of the mill chinese restaurant, but the food is well made, fresh, not super greasy, and abundant. It reminds me of my all time fave, Golden Empress Garden on 5th & South, in my old neighborhood. I usually get the shrimp with garlic sauce, which was never one of my "go-to" dishes for chinese food until i had it from this place. There are a ton of large shrimp per serving, the sauce is sweet and spicy at the same time...it's just wonderful. And the people who work here are very pleasant and polite. I, too, like how they ask how many sauces you want instead of overloading your bag. Definitely my 'official' chinese place in the neighborhood!

My goto Chinese store. Never to too greasy or gloppy like some other corner places. Great Chi-town quality dumplings and noodle dishes. Terrific fried chicken wings. The usual suspects I've tried here are pretty decent.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
