I thought this place is good... I get there paneer masala which is simply amazing They have had multiple owners, change of names and so on but the current ones are good And it's not overly prices CON: Their malaai kofta are lacking... that's one of my fav things to order at an indian place but here the Kofta(veggie balls) were too rigid and the flavor had not seeped in So I stick to my paneer masala

Delivery was fast and spot on for my first experience here. The food here cheap but mediocre. I guess you get what you pay for. Onion Bhaji were over done, malai kofta was served in more of a disappointing dal than the traditional cashew sauce. Ekta forever!

i would give bombay royal 4 stars if not for their weird hours and difficulty getting in touch with them (number wasn't working recently?). as for the restaurant itself, the kitchen is in the dining area and seating does not exist which doesn't really bother me very much since i just stick to take out/delivery. i really wish they had some tables only in hopes that they would offer a lunch buffet... let's get down to business though - their food is really great and by far the best in the neighborhood. forget ekta and tiffin... this place is for real. the main thing about bombay royal is their unique and well-executed use of spices. - for appetizers - not the best pakoras (not crispy enough) but the samosas are really good and have a nice and unusual hint of cinnamon. - my girlfriend and i usually stick to our basics of saag paneer and navratan (navartna) korma and both are delicious. the korma isn't overly heavy-creamy and has just the right amount of sweetness, while the saag nicely balances the cheese with just the right amount of heat. have ordered a few other things and everything was good, but i can't remember off the top of my head - maybe a tandoori chicken? - the plain naan is excellent (fluffy and flavorful) but the peshwari (nuts, dried fruit) was a little lacking. - even the rice has a ton of flavor. yum. overall obviously they need to get their shit together and realize that a good restaurant doesn't ONLY include good food because their inconsistent nature is a little annoying, but again - just think of it as an awesome take out place!

I don't even think this place is open anymore. Tried calling the number on the menu we had, and it says its disconnected. Oh well. If you're looking for Indian Food in Philadelphia, there isn't a whole lot of selection that I know of. But when i do get a hankering for Indian Food, I'll make my way to the suburbs to Aman's in Norristown (East Norriton).

This place was surprisingly good. We ordered in for dinner and delivery was quick from grub hub. We have left over food for lunch tomorrow too. Chicken curry with the hot spice level was spicy but not too spicy. Leave a nice lingering in my mouth as I write this review The chicken tiki masala was a little weaker but still good. I would come here again. For 25 for naan, chicken tiki masala, and chicken curry with left over to spare? Good stuff

Flavor - 4/5 Will satisfy your Indian food craving if you're at home Delivery - 5/5 Used grub hub to order and it came on time Portion Size (ordered for 2 people) - 4/5 Portion sizes are substantial. Ordered Chicken curry(spicy), Chicken masala, and two orders of buttered naan. I don't usually go crazy with indian takeout and just get the regular stuff. Impressions - despite the negative reviews I think you should give this place a try. It sounds like they have their off days and obviously you'll get bad food. But on most days it's pretty darn good.

Finally- an Indian restaurant that delivers to south Philly! When this place popped up on my Grubhub account, I was thrilled. Though living in south Philly is wonderful, the lack of Indian delivery has been heartbreaking. We have ordered from Bombay Royal three times. The saag paneer and chicken tikka masala are delicious, as is the chicken pakora. Each are sizable and have options for your level of spiciness.. However, the restaurant does not seem to know how to manage their huge delivery range. Two out of three times ordering from here, it has taken over two hours to arrive. Each time, they quoted us about one hour... then called around then to say the driver was "15 minutes away." It arrives about an hour later. I can certainly come to terms with the fact that it takes a little longer to deliver, but I prefer the restaurant be honest with me about the time frame. Be prepared to wait without any real idea of how long it might take... and don't expect any kind of apology when they arrive. ... that said, I do hope they will continue delivering to south philly. With no real options on Indian delivery past Federal St., they are certainly cornering the market here.

The food here is good, not as good as Tiffin but still better that some other popular Indian places. The naan in particular is great. Chicken was dry but the sauces (masala and korma) were good. Saag paneer was ok. However, we will NOT be ordering here again. We ordered at 6:45. Dinner arrived at 9:20. We live 1.4 miles away and I called multiple times to be answered with "5 minutes" and hung up on. Right. We're pretty patient people but this was truly unacceptable. The food was good but certainly not worth the wait. Next time, we're going back to Tiffin.

I've had most of the vegetarian dishes here, Chana masala and baigan bharta are two of my favorites. Naan and roti always taste freshly made. The only thing I didn't love was the malai kafta. I will frequent this place though because the prices are wasaaaay more reasonable than other indian restaurants in the area that charge 12$ for chickpeas.

I live 5 miles from this place. It took them 2.5 hours to deliver my food. The delivery men (there were 2 of them) asked me to come out of my apartment and find them, then proceeded to complain about how difficult it was to find my place. None of the other delivery places ever had a problem, and I never had to guide them over the phone turn by turn, either. I wish I could say that the food made up for it, but it was a ripoff. A tiny container of saag paneer for $13. Wow.

I live in the apartment above this place and it is great! Their hours are kind of weird but I would rather them be open later than earlier anyway. The food here is really good and way cheaper than Tiffin and Ekta. It is only delivery or take out but I don't mind that. Also, everyone that works here is really nice and they're definitly good neighbors!

I'm pretty sure this place is relatively new...but great find! And so happy a new Indian place popped up that is eager to please new customers. My boyfriend and I were driving down Girard to Ekta, when I saw a sign for Bombay Royal. I said let's try this place and see how it is. To start with the only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 was that they need some serious work on the interior. We had wanted to sit and eat in but this place isn't quite ready for that....alas we decided on take out. I ordered the shrimp Tikka Masala in mild and my boyfriend got the chicken Tikka Masala in medium. Both come with a very generous portion of rice. When asked if we wanted naan we declined. The food was prepared for us quickly and the guys working were not shy about talking to us and making us feel comfortable as we waited. When we paid for our food the owner threw in some wrapped up naan in our bag and said take it on the house. We were surprised and very thankful. They kept pushing the fact that they deliver...which I wasn't thinking much of because we live pretty far east on Allegheny. Then the guys tell me they deliver within a 4-5 MILE RADIUS! That is unheard of! Awesome! So we get home so excited to try our food. It. Was. Delicious. And dare I say, maybe better than Ekta. The pieces of shrimp were huge, I got through about 4 and still had a few to spare. Mi novios chicken was awesome, big chunks and soooo soft it just melted in your mouth. My sauce was great, creamy how I like it. His medium sauce was great as well, not too spicy but a great flavor. The naan was delicious, fluffy but still thick at the same part. I will definitely be hitting these guys up again. Great food, great service, and delivery pretty much to the whole city! Awesome!

i ordered from them through grubhub. the food was ordered at 7:02pm with a delivery estimate of 7:40-7:50pm. it did not arrive until 8:15pm they forgot the vegetable samosas and my drink. i called grubhub at 8:20pm to have the order rectified. i requested re-delivery as opposed to credit because, well...what's an indian take out order with samosas? while waiting for re-delivery, i tasted the food and realized that they sent me a spicy shrimp dish and peshawari naan instead of chicken tikka masala and butter naan. by then it was so far into the re-delivery i didn't bother to call and have that redelivered. the re-delivery hasn't come yet and it's 10:15pm now. i assumed a while ago that it wasn't coming. so i ate what they delivered. the shrimp dish was pretty good, though not at all what i was in the mood for. and, while most of the shrimp were fully peeled, a couple had little dime sized bits of shell which resulted in some gross bites as they were unexpected. i also ordered saag paneer. that arrived safely, but there were bits of grit--like the spinach hadn't been cleaned properly. thank goodness i am not allergic to nuts, but i bit into the naan without checking if it was what i ordered and apparently the peshawri naan has nuts in it. i don't blame grubhub as i've never had a problem with them previously, but i'll never order from bombay royal again. well, as long as i get refunded for what wasn't delivered.

The place looked pretty shady when I went to pick up my food. The cashier made change out of his pocket. They got our order wrong. To top it off the food was pretty mediocre. The rice was dry. Try Tiffen or Ekta instead. I've had great experiences with both places.

I wanted to post a review here for these guys since there food is great but the service and erratic hours are killing them. Since i saw they opened i have tried to order from them and usually they don't even answer the phones. Once they did, they took my order and when i went to pick it up they said that the chef did not show up and there was no food. If it was not one of the only games in town i would have never gone back. Finally after a few more attempts through out the next few weeks i finally placed an order and received my saag paner and garlic nan. To say the least it was the best i ever had. I have had the dish numerous time including Tiffin and Tashan and this out shinned them both. The portion is huge and the price is cheap. I have ate a few other vegetarian dishes since and all have been 10 out of 10's. The only issue i have with them is that im only able to get through to them 20% of the time or less no matter if its lunch, dinner, or late night. Hopefully they get on a regular schedule so that people start to receive there wonderful food and can stay in buisness.

I really want to love this place. I am so tired of Ekta and Tiffin. I've ordered a couple of vegetarian items that had great flavor. Cons: I don't think they use fresh veggies. Both mixed veg items I've ordered seemed like the typical bagged frozen mixed veg from the grocery store: perfectly uniform small chopped carrots, green beans, corn and a few lima beans (no cauliflower or broccoli). Sauces are great and I am hoping they will step it up and get better vegetables. They also forgot the chutneys and side of raita on my delivery order. I am hopeful they will iron out the kinks. All in all tasted great and cheaper than the other 2 places and much less salty and sugary.
