I love this place. I eat hear at least 1 x/month for lunch. The menu is vast and the service is quick. The lunch specials are a great deal. I especially love the bibim bap (tofu and egg).

So I was pretty pleasantly surprised at the prices when I walked by. Considering the area, it's hard to get lunch for less than $10.. or even around $10. Rittenhouse prices ya know? They advertise prices of $6 ramyun, $8 soondubu, all very reasonable. I opted for the vegetable ramyun (ramen today). HAHAHA what a joke! Guess what their " ramen " is. Literally.. ramen. Like .. google " Nongshim Neoguri Spicy Seafood" it's exactly that one. I know.. because I eat that at home. Let me clarify " vegetable ramen" means Nongshim Neogori ramen + onions, few broccoli and carrot pieces. What a joke! I saw their sushi.. I'd never eat it I MIGHT get their bulgogi because I did see the portions which looked fair, all around the price of $6 to $8. But .. ramen.. is.. a joke

Meh? Meh! Sad, because I've given this place a few tries over the past few months, as I wanted some Japanese food, and didn't want to go too far from work, and spend a boatload of cash. This isn't really a "Japanese" place, as it is more of a general Asian food, as in, they have Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Indonesian food all on the menu. The sushi is pre-made, already in the fridge box, so its not exactly the freshest. The other food I've ordered here has been ok. Just ok. I can't comment on the cleanliness issues other reviewers have mentioned, as it appears to be clean to my eyes. Also, just a weird practice, they want you to pay ahead, when you order, even if you're eating in.

I was so excited to see an "Indonesian food" sign on the restaurant window and I practically skipped in and ordered gado-gado. I was SO disappointed. It was horrible. The "gado-gado" was basically a bed of cold wilted lettuce with some peanutty sauce. EW. I have tried their Sushi and it's mediocre. The sushi/soup combo comes with this sour watery soup that is just awful. Try the place in the Comcast Center food court for decent Sushi and go to Hardena or Sky Cafe in South Philly for some good Indonesian food.

STAY FAR AWAY, unless you actually LIKE bugs. My coworkers got takeout from them yesterday and it looked delicious and fresh and it had me craving sushi all night. I went there for lunch and ordered a California Roll without avocado. She looked at me like I was crazy. Yeah, I'm a faux sushi eater, I only eat California roll. I've tried other rolls and I like what I like. She again looked at me like I was insane because I didn't want the soup or salad. Charge me, I don't want it. So, I'm sitting there eating my sushi and reading a book. Enjoying the solitude and quiet. Alas, I was not alone. For on the table in front of me was Bill the Roach. Apparently, he thought I shouldn't be dining alone (especially since I had on a dress and looked like a pretty girl). He looked at me, I yelped (do I get points for yelping on yelp?) and I got up and walked out. I didn't want to stay in there a moment longer to tell them they had roaches. That's not the kind of shit they don't know, ya know? Prior to seeing Bill, I was thinking to myself that the sushi tasted "off". It was probably a forewarning that I would see an unwanted insect. ps.... I have wild, thick curly hair and I'm really afraid of crawly things. I've been twitching and shaking my hair out ever since because you KNOW those fuckers don't travel solo.

Lovingly referred to by my other co-workers as "subway sushi" because of its unfortunate location in the suburban station concourse near the broad and market street lines. The place ain't much too look at, the dining area has seen better days, and the whole place probably needs scrubbing, but the food is cheap, portions generous, and it all tastes good if not better than the sushi offered at the Comcast center marketplace that costs twice as much. Lunchtime bibimbop with salad or soup with a soda will set you back only $8. They never skimp on the delicious contents. Not bad, right? The 4 pm deal also can't be beat, already prepared items to go are all half-off. Don't stay to dine, just get it to go. Oh and on an entirely unrelated note, did you know that there is Jolly Ranchers soda? Yes, it comes in Sour Apple, Blueberry, Watermelon and Grape flavor. Gross - and they sell it here too - in case you're into weird, overly sugar-y soda pop things!

Whenever I suggest this spot for lunch with co-workers, they usually gag. Apparently sushi from an underground restaurant is not appealing? If you aren't looking for ambiance, then this is the spot for you. For a low price you can get miso soup, a salad & sushi. It is the best sushi lunch deal around, and tastes great. Better than the expensive Comcast sushi place that comes with NOTHING.

I have been here several times before. I have had sushi and korean. yesterday I was in suburban station at post office and decided to come here for lunch. I didn't remember how peaceful and tranquil it is! I even tried a new dish they have Indonesia foods - 3 dishes . i tried the Noodle dish with shrimp. The Entree comes with Miso soup. Yum. Both were really good. the Soup was flavorful and not too salty and the noodles had a nice sauce/flavor. I have to remember to come here when I need quiet on my lunch hour. Also, I was able to logon to my tablet via xfinity wifi. (that might be in part since the comcast building is nearby). I shall return....

Bento Tokyo has been my primary source of sushi and Korean lunch specials for over four years in Center City. There are other places within walking distance, but I really like the quaint atmosphere this restaurant offers. I typically notice that I see the same core of loyal customers that dine-in; many others do order for take-out. I've tried both options, and the food quantity is a bit more when you dine-in. The lunch specials are a STEAL. On Wednesdays, I order the Mandoo Gook (Korean rice cakes with dumplings in eggdrop soup), a small salad, and a can of soda for $5. Amazing. On Fridays, I get the chicken katsu/cutlet, kim chee soup, and soda for $7 - also, the katsu/cutlet is paired with edamame, rice, and cabbage slaw with dressing. The prices are affordable, the quality consistent, AND they offer 50% all sushi and salads sometime around the 4/5 pm hour (you'll see the sandwich board sign just outside their restaurant when it's discounted). If you're lucky, you can get the Tokyo Supreme Combo 50% off - that's at least 6 pieces of sushi, a few smaller tuna rolls, wasabi, and ginger, for about $6.

Love this place. Spicy Tuna Sandwich is soooo yummy! I first tried it at the half-off sushi time after 4pm... if you are open-minded about what you want to eat (coz the selection will be limited), you can get a real bargain if you show up right at 4. They're trying to move their leftover miso and kimchee soup coz' it's the end of the day, so they'll often give you soup as well. It is worth noting that Spicy Tuna Sandwich is a meal by itself, but some of their smaller rolls aren't enough to fill you up for lunch, imo, making the price before 4pm kind of a ripoff unless you get it as a lunch special (they have a rotating schedule of lunch specials monday thru friday, the same each week). With the exception of the $5 lunch specials, they charge "all inclusive lunch" prices for lunches that aren't really enough food, so I recommend after 4pm as a general practice. Particularly delicious and filling lunch special: ramyun with an egg (it's spicy, but omg yum). You have to ask for the egg and pay $1 extra but it's totally worth it. Another little known secret: during the summers, they sometimes make this SUPER YUMMY clear seaweed soup that is cold, and you can get that instead of miso or kimchee soup as your side order with sushi etc. OMG OMG OMG so yummy! I only wish they had it regularly (last summer, I kind of had to go in every day and hope they had it, and they only did about half the time - I'm not even sure they did it this year, though I admit I was not as consistent about asking).

This place is one of the reasons I get to satisfy my love for sushi several times a week, even on a low budget. Bento Tokyo is my favorite after work stop (When not happy hour of course). Around 4pm already prepared and packaged sushi/salads is half off. Half off sushi people, and its good eats; tasty and healthy. Not amazing but not horrible. They throw free soup into the deal as well. You can eat it in house or take it home. They only down side is the deal doesn't apply to sushi made to order, and supply is limited so sometimes your favorite sushi won't be around. Half off tasty sushi and friendly staff all on your way to the train. Yum!

i love this place because it's a humble, unassuming, reliable and totally dependable quick lunch spot. i eat here at least 1-2 per week and i am never disappointed. the prices are so reasonable with daily sushi and non-sushi lunch specials that range from $5-8 (on fridays they have a chicken or pork katsu special for $7 that includes soup or salad and a can of soda). my favorite items from here are: katsu, hwedupbaps, spicy tunay 'sandwiches' (that are triangle wedges of sushi rice with a layer of spicy tuna in between SO GOOD), any of the brown rice rolls, and noodle-y dishes. the mandu gook is hearty and warming if you're looking for a good broth-y dish. the ramen i'd stay away from. i mean, i often still order it, but they usually use a bit too much water and i find it on the bland side for me... but i love my ramen spicy and potent so this might not be an issue for most people! everyone who works there is super nice and helpful and they are definitely interested in providing great service and getting you out of there quickly.

I'm new to the area. Didn't realize it was underground :). Can't wait to try my order of Tokyo combo and chicken teriyaki. After finishing my meal: The rolls were falling apart, the Teriyaki was stale and aweful, the chicken so dry!.. never thought Chicken Teriyaki could be this bad. Not going back for sure!

I got POISONED by eating their UDON dish! RUDE PERSONNEL who barely speak English! If you value your well being, DO NOT EAT THERE!!!! THEIR SUSHI LOOKS AND TASTES BAD! The whole place could use some cleaning and the fact that it is located right in the train station, does not make it attractive at all! I paid 8$ for UDON Soup, which is nothing but thick chunky noddles swimming in a broth, which made me sick all night!

I have been going here for takeout sushi since 2008. I kept coming back because the sushi was fresh and inexpensive and with it, you got a free side salad and free Miso soup with it... good deal! I have decided today to start going to Comcast Center and get my Sushi there, even though it is more expen. This place has gone downhill in the past year. They are getting cheap and trying to not let it show. They are also getting sloppy. The sign telling you that you get a free Miso and salad with the Sushi is still up, however you do not get a salad, and if you don't ask for it, you dont get a soup either. The prices are the same. The sign is false advertising. I asked about the sign and the girl behind the counter said "Oh yeah they haven't changed the signs yet." I find this a poor excuse. Today the levels of soup that my coworker and I were less than half the container, maybe about 1/2 a cup of soup, they used to be 3/4/ full. And in the bottom of my coworker's soup was a nice sliver of blue plastic.. YUMM. The establishment used to have the tables at least half filled with people for lunch. Now I never see anyone sitting at the tables, so I know I am not the only one who has noticed the decline in quality and customer service.
