Stopped here on Sunday while traveling through the area, it's now called "Big Al's Italiano". There are several things to like about this place: 1: It was crowded with friendly Locals 2: The Wait Staff is very friendly and attentive. 3: They run a 7 day a week Lunch Menu Specials. 4: Plenty of parking. 5: Large clean Restrooms. 6: Our Lunch was very good and reasonable. 7: When leaving the Counter Person wished us a good day and hoped we would come back. 8: We now have a great place to stop for Lunch on our monthly trips into Philadelphia.

Coming from NYC, I can say the pizza is quite good. Be adventurous and try other things on the menu. I usually do delivery or take out and rarely sit down to eat there. Their phone service is less than stellar - I am usually put on hold and at times the call drops. The client facing staff seems stressed and bored - a bit more 'bedside manner" would be nice but regardless we order there a lot.

I used frequent this place on a more regular basis until they raised their prices. Still my go to place when I have a craving for garlic wings.

Their pizza is by far the best in the Northeast. I've never ordered anything that I didn't like. Their Ranchero fries are amazing as well. Little pricey and sometimes long wait. But it's worth it.

Stopped here after going to Adventure Aquarium. Ordered wings, pizza, mussels, and cheesecake, all of it was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

A nice pizza and overall italian place near my parents. Reasonably priced, with good selection and above average quality. The place has tables, slices and the usual pick-up and delivery options ($5 minimum). Credit cards are accepted and the staff is very friendly. The couches in front of the counter are not plush and luxurious, but are just right when you come for your pizza a few minutes early.

PROS: I think 4 stars is about right. Pasta dishes, appetizers, and overall meal selections are excellent. Wings are also excellent and come with many different sauces. Very good staff for eat-in or takeout. CONS: The separation between 4 and 5 stars is the pizza. Not the worst I've had, but definitely needs improvement. It's not on the Santucci's or Tacconelli's level just yet and the national chains still have an edge on them.

I am writing this review because of an awful experience I had on Friday January 23rd. It's a shame that so many people only give out reviews when they have a bad experience but that is business. Let me start by saying: I run a bowling center in south philly and understand the power of customer reviews. Customer service is vitally important in running a successful business. With that said- here was my experience... My wife and I work crazy hours and don't always have time to make home cooked meals. We discovered big al's few years ago and for the most part their food is good and their prices are reasonable. We are, what I would say, VERY GOOD CUSTOMERS. Buying from big al's at least twice a week for over a year. Our average bill is $30. As you can see: a good customer. Tuesday: We ordered $25 in steaks and drinks and did not receive our sodas. When we called to let them know, the Tuesday counter girl told us to let them know next time we ordered and they will give us the sodas (3 black cherry sodas). Friday: We called in an order for $45. When we told the lady she said no soda for us because it wasn't notated in their computer. We explained the Tuesday counter girl told us to let them know and they will give us our sodas that WE PAID FOR. The Friday counter girl wouldn't budge. (Side note: the Friday night counter girl is never nice. You would think that we are unconvincing her every time we order. I guess it's a privilege to eat their food.). We asked for the supervisor. His name was Jake. He was no better. He said nothing was entered in their system and the Tuesday girl was not working so he couldn't give us the sodas. My wife was pissed and she cancelled the order. I was at work. When I had the opportunity to called big al's I got jake on the phone. After explaining our situation and the frequency we purchase he still did not budge. The conversation ended with me explaining to him that big al's lost a customer for life. I know some are thinking: a few $3 soda: no big deal. Where they lost me was the overall rudeness and distrust. Customer service is what separates businesses from on another. I hope management reads this review and makes the appropriate changes. Business owners: Busy is a privilege and honor not a given. You are busy because of customers.

This place is a cut above all other "pizza joints" in the area. They make almost everything in house, the staff is friendly and down to earth. Good prices. Buffalo fries and wings are bomb, rancho pizza is my fave, grilled salmon is amazing, that cream sauce tho! All desserts are premium quality. Casual family atmosphere.

GOOD NEWS-BAD NEWS BAD FIRST- I HATED the pizza, I mean hated the pizza. Did I mention I hated it? Oh, I hated it. I ordered a large and it was small(not literally a small) just small for a large. Crust was too thick and pie didn't have much flavor. I really hated it LIKE REALLY Ok GOOD NEWS-3 other people I was with liked it. I honestly can't comprehend how someone, let along 3 people could like the pie. But, I guess some people like lousy pizza. If I could give less than 1 star I would. PS If your local and you like Shef's pizza ( that's how it's spelled, I know it stupid right?) any ways, if you like Shef's you will LOVE THIS TERRIBLE PIZZA AND ONCE MORE I HATED IT!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
