Small Mexican restaurant/bakery. The cakes of "tres leches" are very good. You should check it out for yourself. It's best to try new things sometimes!!!

Two words. Tres Leches. Get their 3 milk cake. It's a wonderful substitute for dry birthday cake. This cake is amazing!!!! They also have good tacos.

We ordered 30 tamales for a party from them, and they were the hit of the party. I was a little nervous at first because it was the first time we ordered from them. They were recommended to us by a friend of a friend. When I went to pick them up, they were ready and the process was very professional and easy. I would definitely use them again. The exterior and interior is unimpressive, but the tamales were really really really good!

El Puerto Jarocho is located in Norristown's Little Mexico (W Marshall Street). It's a restaurant / bakery where mostly locals go. Restaurant - the food here is pretty good. They offer a diverse menu (even offering breakfast items). Ask for the menu (note- the prices are actually $1 higher than shown). Since it's a bakery, I highly recommend the sandwiches (tortas or cemitas) - they are enormous. Make sure to get jalapenos on them as well. The service here is lacking, so just grab what you want from the fridge or flag down the guy behind the counter for your check. Bakery - if you want some baked goods, you just grab a silver plate from the front and grab what you want. Of course nothing is labelled or has prices, but dont be afraid to ask. Enjoy!

Puerto Jarocho is a small Mexican restaurant / bakery. Authentic Mexican food is served (mostly tacos and tortas) for relatively low prices. Ask to see a menu: the one on the wall behind the register is incomplete and is posted without prices. In summary: Great: tacos (we've tried asada, bistec, al pastor, chorizo and carnitas) cemitas Very Good: pastries, tamales Mixed: There is seating, but it is limited to just a few tables. The physical restaurant itself is typical of authentic Mexican lunch spots: Clean, but not fancy.

On my continuing quest to eat at and review every Mexican restaurant in Norristown, I stopped into this little spot for breakfast one morning. It was a Sunday morning, and at the hour I went most places in town were closed, but El Puerto Jarocho was open for business (which is a big plus). Upon entering I got a bit of the "gringo staredown" but once that passed the service was fine and friendly enough. I ordered chorizo and eggs and a coffee, all of which was very good, although somewhat unremarkable. I understand they have excellent tamales and bakery items, which I have not yet tried, but plan to return after my quest to eat everywhere is concluded. Interior is unremarkable as well, and typical for the standard Norristown Mexican eatery: small and spartan. In short, it's a fine place to eat a solid quality Mexican breakfast. Recommended.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
