    I am always looking for good sushi on the main line. Despite there being multiple options, I am usually left feeling not quite blown away. Ginza, however, never fails to impress. This sushi place is delicious, with great service, a large and varied menu and the best part... free edamame! This is the #1 sushi spot on the main line!

    FINALLY! A real, legitimate sushi restaurant where you won't find sesame chicken and pad thai on the menu! I have been searching long and hard for good, authentic, NORMAL (not crazy expensive downtown city superstar chef level), asian restaurants and I am hereby proclaiming Ginza to be my official Japanese/Sushi restaurant! I knew as soon as I walked in that this place was legit. It's a level above any other sushi place in the area*. Prices are a little bit high and portions are a little small. E.g. dragon rolls, hawaiian rolls, etc. only come with 5 pieces and they're small pieces. The sushi chefs did, however, give us complimentary samples of some special rolls (like you expect at other good sushi restaurants). The fresh roll (has lettuce and wrapped in rice paper), is lovely! Very refreshing. *Okay, so back on the West Coast where good asian food is the norm rather than the exception, this place might not even be considered average (imho, just due to how small the rolls are- not due to quality), but because the food is good, sushi is fresh, chefs are amazingly nice (although I'm almost positive not one of them is actually Japanese haha), the owner is super nice, service was great, and the place REEKS of authenticity, Ginza is definitely the best sushi place in this area.

    I've been to Ginza a few times, mostly because this restaurant used to be my bf's family's favorite sushi location. However, the last time we went they finally reevaluated their commitment to what is, unfortunately, a mediocre dining experience. The restaurant is nice but basic, with fairly generic and simple interior decoration typical of many Japanese restaurants with pale wood and clean, modern lines throughout. The management is really the only reason why in the past they've always gone here. The owner knows them by name, always greets them when they enter and is very, very sweet and friendly. The staff is also very accommodating and friendly, almost to the point of bending over backwards for you. So what's the issue? The actual dining experience itself. The menu is pretty basic, and not as extensive as at better places I've been to. Their special rolls selection is also limited and not very creative, consisting of combinations you find at many other sushi places. The quality itself is fine, but nothing spectacular and DEFINITELY does not reflect the prices they list for them. It is far too expensive a place than it deserves. The food is edible, and certainly doesn't taste bad, but its forgettable instead of being great or even good. In the end, despite how wonderful the staff is, its just not worth it.

    This place is a great place. The sushi is always fresh and the food quality here is great. The service is great and always friendly. I have been going here for years and have nothing to complain about. The free beer and sake are a plus too since it is a byob. I would recommend this place if you want a authentic Japanese meal.

    Ginza was great! They brought us a big bowl of well prepared edamame for the table, an app that is normally $6-8 at Japanese restaurants. We ordered hot yes which was perfectly brewed and a delicious blend. The veg tempura was perfectly hot and crispy, not greasy at all, with a great dipping sauce. We had the manhattan, paradise and Alaskan roll all of which were wonderfully fresh and bright. The service was very attentive and the whole staff was super friendly. I highly recommend this place, the prices were also reasonable for great sushi.

    This is my "go-to" sushi place when I'm in this area. I've been here several times now and you cannot go wrong at this place. It has never disappointed. Pros: (there are so many) - first off, the sushi/sashimi - basically everything served gives an overwhelming comfort that it is fresh and not 'fishy'. As if it's going bad. There have been many times I've been to sushi restaurants and I am a little on the edge of my seat and always bracing myself sometimes when trying their sushi (obviously don't go back to those places). Here. You're safe. It not only looks good, it is good! - prices, very reasonable. I believe you can dine and get the same average place as a decent sushi place in Philadelphia. - service, is on point. You don't get bombarded with "are you okay?/is everything okay?" questions though it is appreciate and you don't get abandoned as if you were never there. It is a good balance to where you can enjoy your meal. - clean, cleanliness is important - and the place is always looking well kept and trustworthy. Important when you're dealing with sushi. thumbs up. Cons: (only one - keeping me from giving it 5 stars). - space. It's a little tight. This is just my personal preference but depending on where you sit, you may be enjoying the conversation of the party next to you. Now, I'm just someone who likes a booth to yourself to avoid any distractions. And comfortably eat my food. At the same time, "who cares" right? This is just my little gripe about the place but it is easily forgotten as soon as the food comes out. Yum! So if you're in this area, go. I haven't found any sushi restaurants within a decent number of miles from this place. Only one other one in Manayunk so far that I have enjoyed. :)

    Four stars for the complimentary edamame and beer or sake option. It was the best surprise after trying this place for the first time after a long week. They give you a full bottle of Kirin per person, too. No tiny sampler glasses.

    We have been planning to go to Ginza for months because we love sushi and it got great reviews. Sadly we were disappointed... The restaurant feels cramped and the seating is too close to the other tables. The sushi took a while to come out but the presentation was awful. The plates were made out of cheap plastic and the sushi was not artfully placed (which you expect for the price). The sushi was overpriced and not great quality. The fish was not the right temperature and it felt like the cucumbers were too overpowering. They also give you less pieces than other places. The service was good and that's why I'm giving them two stars.

    I came back here after a longgg haitus. I was just hungry for sushi, post gym workout. This place is quite out of the way for me. It's closer to the gym so I usually time my visits with gym training. I am by no means a sushi connoisseur but I know good food when I taste it and I know good service then I see'z it. The people here are always friendly. The older man who always meets and greets you at the door gets my vote. Customer service is such a lost art these days. Good to find a place that still serves it. I just wish it was somehow closer to where I live...

    We had a light meal here this evening and were impressed. The big greeting from the owner, waiting staff and kitchen always lifts the spirits. The suroundings are pleasant without being distinctive. The service was quick and atttentive. The complimentary edamame on arrival is a nice touch. We both had sashimi which was fresh and well served. Overall I would rate it a 7.5/10 - the points lost are from the fish quality - the salmon wasnt quite fatty enough for my taste. We got out for $54 incl tip although we had lower priced options. What really left me fizzing was the two Asahi's we had with the meal - they were left off the bill and I quietly reminded the waiter of the fact and he said that they were complimentary with the meal - that gets my vote!!

    There was a time where a traumatic sushi eating experience during childhood had prevented me from being adventurous enough to further experience its plentiful wonders. Ginza would have likely been the place to have rectified that situation when I lived in Narberth had I had not also been weirded out by the fact that it was built in a location that used to house a gas station. But living in Philly for so many years has taught me to savor various kinds of sushi and sashimi. And being a city dweller has also led me to see restaurants being built in locations that used to house far weirder. So when I came back to suburbia for a long stretch I decided to make it a point to finally try here, and I was more then happy with what this chill BYOB had to offer. Whether it was the time I eat in, or the times that I stopped in for take out I was treated to friendly greetings and attentive service throughout. If you're not a fan of raw fish then you might find solace in their udon, teriyaki, tempura, or other dishes. and their reasonably priced starters start at $1.50 for a miso soup or squid salad. But their sushi and sashimi is definitely the main attraction that goes along with its relaxed atmosphere. Although the sashimi cuts that I went for did seem a bit small; the fluke, squid, and mackerel that I picked up were of top quality. But the main attraction was definitely the specialty rolls. Although you may get less with serving than you would at other sushi spots at 6 rolls, they were definitely sized larger and offered up good pieces of fish. For my first occasion I went with the Tokyo roll which place eel on top of shrimp tempura. for the next effort I indulged upon the Paradise Roll which had crabmeat, avocado, and cucumber on the inside; and shifted between eel or salmon on the outside.even though I didn't find any crunch to it, even the spicy crunch tuna roll that I ordered made for a good experience. I may be conflicted in recommending either here or Harusame as being the best suburban sushi experience. But if you're looking for a better than good BYOB option on top, then Ginza is a definite must!

    Most importantly, the sushi at Ginza is delicious, and consistent. I once ate here twice in one day, so that's saying something. The owner is a lovely guy& you just feel good patronizing this place. We were always big Osaka fans and this sushi is just as good, the presentation is just lacking sometimes. I wish they would put more artsy flourishes instead of packing everything in a tin for take-out. Cheapens the experience a little bit.

    Ginza is a great place to get sushi. The decor is pretty standard but the food is great. What really sets it apart is the great service. They are always to welcoming and accommodating. I am one of those really annoying customers who makes lots of changes and substitutions and they are always really nice about it. They also give you free edamame and saki!

    Hadn't been here in a long time. Won't go back. The only really tasty item was the avocado salad. Miso was dull. Sushi had tasteless fish. The ginger served with sushi had almost no taste. Back to Harusame for me. Only went here because it is closer and it was snowing.

    We visited Ginza on New Years Eve. It wasn't terribly busy. We walked in at about 6:00 or 6:30 without a reservation. Nice atmosphere but prices are about 20 to 25% higher than they should be for most items. $17 for chicken teriyaki? Really? Also, sushi is not served nigiri style here. You pay by the piece (I guess this is a east coast thing? You rarely, if ever, see this on the west coast where we're on the Pac Rim) - $3 for a single piece of maguro. Yikes. Quite pricey. Our waiter was nice but we had to hunt him down at every step. He brought me my agadashi tofu (there were 4 of us at the table) but ZERO plates to share. Did he really expect me to eat directly out of the bowl? Hmm... Sort of tacky. After our meal was served, he checked back about 60 seconds after our meal was set on the table and then didn't check back on us until we'd sat for 15 or so minutes after we'd finished our meals waiting for him to ask us for our dessert order. I ordered the chirashi for my main course. It was nicely presented, but the cuts of fish were REALLY thin and it was served without enough sushi rice. They slid a layer of sushi rice no more than 1cm thick at most in a small round sushi bowl. It was a very meager presentation although visually it was very nicely done. It also seemed a bit "timid" in selection. No roe, mackeral, or anything "bold". I had to ask for more sushi rice and it took quite a while to get our waiter to fetch it for us. I felt that service here was really lacking: we also tried to hail down the only waitress here (as our waiter just didn't come by enough) and she made it quite clear that she was only willing to fill up my tea as we weren't her "table". She never returned with the tea, either. Another negative: one of the children spilled their coke and our waiter made ZERO effort to help us clean it up. We had to ask for extra napkins which he obliged us with, but at each step of the way, we had to hunt him down for everything. I'd eat here again, but I'd be sure to sit at the sushi bar so I didn't have to wait for everything.

    Unfortunately we don't get to come here anymore because it is REALLY far from us...I don't know what it is about Narberth, but since we moved out of the city, it feels like it takes years to get there from Cherry Hill. A few times we tried to get there for lunch, but considering we usually eat lunch on the weekends around 2:00 - 2:30 p.m., we never make the serving window. Moving along. I like to think of Ginza as popping my sushi cherry, maybe that's why I have such a special place on my heart for it. Sure I had eaten sushi in high school and earlier in my college years (yikes...have I really been out of college for almost five years?)...but spicy crunchy tuna doused in orange spicy mayo is so far from anything I consider sushi these days (although, sometimes you just want to find a way to slide fried goodness into your rolls...I totally get it :)) Let's see... Squid salad = magnificent. I have yet to find anything comparable. They are generous with their boats...this is the only place that will give me a boat to deliver my sushi...everywhere else makes it seem like you must order several hundred pounds to be worthy. Gimme a gd boat! Fresh sushi...the pieces have very generous offerings on the rice. My husband was very anti sushi when we started going here with his colleagues, so since he know lusts after sashimi, I wish I could get him back here so we can really gauge their's. Someone said free beer...yup. I randomly was presented with a beer or a free pot of sake. You cannot beat the service. I had to have a stupid, pointless procedure requiring anesthesia (which means: FASTING) and when asked where I wanted to have my first meal to break my 40 hour fast, I said: GINZA. Loopy, spilling soy sauce EVERYWHERE (literally everywhere...I've never made such a mess....) and we were still treated beautifully. I will agree: the only reason I can't give this place five stars is because it is quite pricey. We used to avoid going to sushi (when we were oh so young) because we thought all sushi was this expensive...I think I remember some pretty straightforward rolls running like 7-8 bucks? Compared to what we pay around where we live now, that's a tad steep! Overall, definitely recommend.

    Ginza is my go-to lunch spot for sushi during work hours. It's a decent spot, with a decent ambiance and good sushi. The owner is always there, thanking you several times for coming - seems like a really nice guy. The sushi is good, always fresh. The rolls are pretty big, too - if you order two, I find, with six pieces each, it's plenty. My usual is the Alaskan roll and spicy tuna roll - pretty standard - with a seaweed salad. I tried the futo roll recently, which was interesting because it had pickled this and that in it with a tart flavoring, plus egg and veggies...interesting! Good for groups...or for a smaller party I prefer the room to the left, which is quieter and a little more intimate.

    Free beer. Two words, which when taken individually are nice, but when combined the synergy turns it into something magical. Actually the true draw on this place is the fresh sushi.... best we have had since moving from San Diego. Agree with prior reviews recommending the hong kong dragon roll. We also had the spicy tuna roll and the spicy tuna crunch roll and were not disappointed. The owner is really as nice as prior reviews mention. He even went as far as making a cloth napkin into a makeshift blanket for our 6 month old son as he sat in his stroller. So we'll put this place in the regular rotation. It blows away any place we have been on the Mainline and it is a lot closer then Bluefin. And did I mention there is free beer?

    Service was good, Food Quality was good. Seems the fish is being sliced thinner, and they don't include Eel in the sushi combo anymore. When I asked why, they said it is to expensive. I beleive you have to spend money to make money.

    Ginza is our go-to sushi place in the neighborhood. There are several things I like about Ginza: owner is so polite, you really feel welcome here complimentary bowl of edamame complimentary glass of beer or sake if you ask nice quiet atmosphere fish is always fresh tasting -some favorites here are the hong kong dragon roll and spider roll Only downside of Ginza is its relatively expensive.

    Sushi lovers prepare yourselves, Ginza is the best bang for the buck I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Extremely well priced, the food is always fresh and served with care. The owner and manager - Mr. Sung, is the nicest, most well-intentioned guy you will ever meet. He is at his restaurant every night taking amazing care of his customers, and probably giving you free edamame before your food is served. Definitely check this place out, I would give it 6 stars if I could.

    Not bad at all, this place. My lady and I met a friend here tonight and had a delicious, seafare-driven feast, most of which was wrapped snugly in a cushion of rice. This is a BYOB, so we brought a bottle of red and started with a round of appetizers - Gyoza, Shumai, and a few other words in Japanese - all exceedingly tasty but gone almost immediately. We followed with a total of ten sushi rolls between the three of us; my favorites were the crunchy Tokyo roll and the beautifully presented Fire roll, which tasted even better than it looked. The service was excellent, but there's definitely a language barrier. The seating is what I'm used to in Asian restaurants, but it's kind of cramped for big Americans like us. On the plus side, since they don't have a liquor license, they're only allowed to give alcohol out for free - which they will happily do in the form of a hot cup of sake or a bottle of Japanese beer, at a limit of two per customer. When we think of good sushi, this will be near the top of our list.

    After reading reviews for this place I was excited to give it a try. The restaurant is small and very busy, but we were seated within 10 minutes. It took about 45 minutes for the food to come, and then after eating we waited about 45 minutes more for the check after asking numerous times. I eventually had to go up to the cash register and ask another waitress to do it. The sushi itself was tasty, but if I were to go here again I'd definitely opt for take out.

    I'm not even sure I should write about Ginza. It's always been so easy to go in, get a table (without a reservation), have a delicious meal at a very reasonable price, and leave wondering why I don't eat there every week or so. A quick word about sushi reviews: I'm not an expert or a snob when it comes to sushi, like many folks on the Chowhound boards or other hardcore foodie forum sites. But I do know what I like and can tell excellent (Teikoku) from very good/good (Mikado) from OK/bad (Sushi Land). The sushi I've had at Ginza has always been in the very good range, and they do a nice job with their specialty rolls. Some of the other menu items that stand out are the shumai, gyoza and negimaki. I liked the yakisoba better at nearby Maido market, but Ginza's mochi ice cream is the best I've had in this area code. This place is BYOB but does offer sake. Service is usually quite good and you won't find a friendlier owner and host working in the food industry today. So now the secret is out. Here's hoping the locals/regulars don't find out who I am.

    Friendly service. Owner very nice. Always makes effort to welcome diners. Good sushi. I usually get the same thing when I go. Sashimi for one and it's good. Service is good. Byob. Gives us a plate of beans when we sit down. It's close to home and good. Only time I would avoid is when they are really busy. But I find that with most restaurants.

    This is our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. The man at the front desk is so nice, we just love him. The service is good. You get a bowl of Edamame when you sit down to order. They will bring you a hot sake if you ask. We usually bring a bottle of white wine, and they always serve it to us in a chilled bucket. The sushi is good. But we really love the Tempora Udon soup. YUM. Parking can get a little tight, so if you can come early and get a good spot.

    This Japanese/sushi restaurant gets a higher rating for wonderful customer service. The owner holds the door, wlecomes you warmly, bows several times. The waitstaff endures the same way- friendly, warm, accomodating. The food I feel is average- steamed, salted endamane greets you as you look through the menu. Nice selection of rolls and meals. We had a shrimp and avocado roll, vegetable roll, eel, spinach and mushrooms. All were fat and delicious. An easy, friendly place to relax and eat.

    Uninspiring and sad cannot trump the convenient location. Continuing our quest to find decent sushi on the mainline, we were once again disappointed by this expensive place. They seem nice, but...the sushi was meh. On the upside, plenty of parking. Perhaps a good place to eat the takeout you pick up from elsewhere? Eh...

    The food is good, the service also, but when did this place get so expensive? I've been coming here sporadically for many years, but seriously, I think they upped the price by 20% on everything... I agree with the other reviewers that the fish is fresh. The host is also a total sweetheart. It's always been busy every time I've come here, but never packed, so it's always possible to get a table pretty much any time. Also, I just went here and tons of kids were everywhere, so apparently, this place is very kid friendly. I swear, trying to watch little kids eat edamame is hilarious and dangerous!

    I've been to Ginza before with unremarkable results. The other night was, sadly, rather disappointing. The good: the food was alright - not awesome. The service was polite. The default soy sauce is low sodium (clutch). The bad: 25+ minute wait for sushi after soup (this was eased some by the edamame), with not a word from the manager or server about the delay. I think the server mumbled something about it when she dropped our food off, but I couldn't really hear. The restaurant seemed to have the necessary staffing but I think they were not managed well. Our server seemed to be running about with tables on both sides of the room, while the other floor staff didn't seem too rushed at all. The sushi chefs appeared to be confused and disorganized, like maybe they hadn't worked together for a while. The ugly: something black was in my water, and there was tofu stuck to the bottom of my friend's soup bowl. We didn't complain about either, simply because they're really not life-threatening; but it does affect the overall experience. Lastly, they are too pricey for what you get: if you order an $11 Rainbow Roll, normally you get 8 pieces - at Ginza, you get a mere 5. We ordered two of the "fancy" rolls, and then had to order another roll because we ended up with five and a half pieces each. Overall, I won't be returning.
