I have worked in the industry for 5 years and I cannot believe how incredibly unprofessional Sligo has been. They charged my card for someone else's tab and gave my debit card to someone else and that individual subsequently spent a great deal of money. Huge issue with the bank, cancel and replace my card etc. When I called to speak to a manager I was told for 3 days that there was "not a manager there".... I understand that accidents do happen but I expect at least a courtesy phone call for an employee error that resulted in such chaos. When I finally did speak with a manager he let me know that he had never heard any messages, he wasn't sure what I wanted him to do and that it is a "drinking establishment...mistakes happen" indicating maybe the bartender was drunk? There are enough bars in Media to avoid such a horrible experience again.

As a local Media-orite (get it?) I used to love going to Sligo. It was moderately priced, the food was always decent and the beers were good. Service was never wonderful, but if you were in no rush it was a great place to hang, enjoy the atmosphere, and catch up with friends. All that has changed my friends. The service has become absolutely deplorable, and not just from the servers - the bartenders have changed - they're gruff and unfriendly - and the new manager is an idiot in terms of customer service and how to please people. On one occasion we were on our way to see a show at a local theater and arrived to the restaurant 2 hours before our intended time that we needed to leave. My boyfriend had to take his to go because it took so stinkin' long, and there were no apologies made, no adjustments to our check, and worst yet - the restaurant was not even busy. The last time we were there (and the last time we'll be going) we had to wait 45 minutes for a beer, and then when we tried to order food the waitress just walked away, while we were talking...WTF!? While it may look appealing from the outside, and the atmosphere may seem inviting, take my advice and do just as our server did - WALK AWAY. There are many other fine casual, attentive and delicious place to choose from in Media - give them your business.

Stopped in again for the fish and chips and pot pie. Unfortunately, no pot pie on the menu - my partner is disappointed. The fish and chips were great again - nice big piece of cod. My partner ordered the corned beef and cabbage - thin slices of beef with crunchy cabbage. No bread was offered. We asked for some - none available. We were offered a sliced roll and accepted but no butter. Service is poor as they are tending bar rather than waiting tables.

This is a great neighborhood place that I frequent for the Thursday happy hour special. My boyfriend is obsessed with their oysters. He not only loves the quality and price (they are $1 on Thursday), but also the size. He calls them "oyster steaks" because they are quite often pretty big. I do not eat oysters, but do like to tag along because they have a great rotating selection on tap. My favorite thing is that during happy hour I can get a 5 pour flight for $5. This way I get to try a good portion of what's on tap before ordering a full beer. The service is generally really friendly and very prompt. The one thing I did not care for was the crab cake. That is the only thing I would not recommend here that I have tried.

New place that is also in Media. We went to this Glen Mills location and it had just opened the night before. The waitress was great although had no idea about the menu or the beer choices. My Husband loves craft beers and their were a lot of choices but we had to pry it out of her. The salads were nice and big. I had a spinach salad that was awesome! Hot bacon dressing and a hard boiled egg with a runny center that had been lightly breaded and deep fried. The yolk ran out and made the salad even better. French fried onion pieces made it even better! We split bangers and mash pretty good but needed some seasoning. All in all worth a trip back.

Came in with my wife while visiting Media, we did a mini pub crawl, her and I, and as always stopped for a pint in Sligo. Love this place. Reminds me a little of Dublin, the bartender was attentive, the apps were spot on, had some witty banter with a local lawyer, just a real nice experience on a very low key day. I will definitely be back. Spoke to the bartender for a bit and we are looking forward to some Fall and Winter specials coming up on the menu. Nothing beats hearty comfort food and a Stout in the colder months.

We absolutely LOVE Sligo! It's our go- to place for great food, excellent beers, and awesome service! We've never had a bad meal here! Trivia nights on Tuesday are always a blast! Definitely a must- try!!!

I personally enjoy Sligo's. I think it's a good place to just go grab a bite to eat. It always has good beers and a fairly healthy choice on the menu for healthy eaters like myself. Today I had a their salmon Caesar salad. It had enough dressing but not too much dressing like some places do and the piece of salmon was fairly large.

The renovation definitely makes Sligo less sterile than the place that was there before it, though it's still not really warm and inviting. The server was nice and efficient. I ordered "nachos" but instead I was brought a plate of potato chips with nacho fixings. The chips were homemade and good, and I know many people might prefer this to actual nachos. My issue was that I ordered nachos not chips. I ended up paying $16.50 for a beer and food that I didn't order, didn't want and didn't eat. My sending a plate of food back to the kitchen almost untouched elicited no response from management.

Very slow, afterthought-type service. Went here with my wife around 5:30PM on a Saturday night. We walked in, and it was about 1/3 full (1/2 at bar, 1/2 at tables). We sat down, and it took about 18 minutes of sitting at a front window table until someone "greeted" us (brought us 2 menus and asked if we wanted a drink). I wanted to take a look at the beer list, and the waitress (never said her name) said "okay" and walked away. I should have just ordered a Guinness, as it was another 10 minutes-or-so until she returned. We ordered a spinach salad and a burger and a beer. The beer came close to 10 minutes later, but it took over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and no one checked back on us until they brought the food. Our waters and my beer were mostly finished. They apologized for the delay, but didn't explain any reason for it. It's like they knew it was a long time, but they just didn't care. Burger was good, but dry - I wouldn't order it again. The saddest part is we were sitting across from Fellini's Cafe in Media, one of our favorite restaurants in the area...watching people get service and attention from their staff, as well as excellent food. All things we did not receive. I think if we were popping in for a drink, the review would be a 3-4 star (they had a good Icelandic porter on tap, decent beer selection), but they fell far short of my expectations for a decent meal experience.

Gotta update here because I believe that you should spend your hard earned money somewhere else! This place is the WORST. Before I said I would have a beer here before moving on, but that was before I actually learned what a despicable person the owner is. He is pompous, rude, and extremely unfriendly and I don't believe that a person who has this personality should run a pub. End of story, I won't spend another dime here.

I had lunch here on a Saturday. Sat at the bar. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was good, but nothing special. They had 6 craft beers on tap - not as many as a place like Quotations, but it's good that they had any at all I guess. Food menu is a bit small. Wish there were more things to choose from. I would probably go back if I was craving Irish food like bangers and mash or shepherd's pie.

I really enjoy this place when you can get a seat! Either bar or table. Foods good, they have a small but good selection of rotating beers and all in all is a pleasant time. However, I can only give it 3 stars Bc the service here is just terrible. Both servers and bartenders are very pleasant but they are so unattentive to customers. The past 5 times or so I've been here it takes a ridiculously long time to take our order or even for a beer at the bar. I've bartended for years and the one thing I've always made sure of was that all my customers, including tables, always had a drink and isn't waiting 10 minutes just for someone to ask. I feel that a lot of people who work at Sligo are more interested in talking to friends or regulars and don't give full attention to other paying customers. Example - we were here recently and a whole 7 people were at the bar and 2 tables were filled and it took such a long time for our second drink bc the employees were hanging at the service bar and not paying attention to our empty drinks. Note to the manager- I like it a lot here but please address your staff with this matter. It's the only reason we don't come as often as we'd like.

Stopped in on a Sunday. Looks like a cool place but unfortunately in terms of executing the typical dining experience? It's not too cool. Ordered drinks and meal and after 30 minutes of being the only table ordering food, our drinks weren't refilled, our food wasn't brought out and the waitress was more interested in socializing than even checking on us. Very poor service. The waitress seems nice but in terms of actually doing her job? Awful. Food was mediocre. They apparently scuttled the menu. Wouldn't go back, and honestly can't say you should even try it. Or you'll be writing the same .

This Irish themed bar has a solid if unspectacular selection of craft beers on tap. Prices are about what you'd expect for the neighborhood. No one had any complaints about the meal, though I can't say there was anything notable about the stew I had. For the size of the place, you'd think they would have larger than one person restrooms. I didn't have any of the problems with service that have been mentioned. Both the bar and the servers seemed to be properly staffed for a Saturday afternoon.

Love this place. I've always had a good time. We had a great waitress, Francesca, and a real smart guy who recommended some great bourbons to try. Food was delicious, had the nachos w short ribs, wings, and cheese fries along w plenty of drinks. Definitely the best service and place to party on State street!! Recommended to all!!

This place is a good pub for beer. The food, not so much. I ordered a burger, medium, which came out well done and was overall just really bland. They have a lot of interesting beers on tap that they rotate often, which is always good for me. The location was also great for me, as it was a block and a half away from my boyfriend's apartment. I think in the future, I'll just stick to beer here. And maybe, if I'm feeling frisky, I'll go with a more Irish influenced dish, which I hear they do a good job with.

I wouldn't eat here again after our experience yesterday. There appeared to be only one waitress working (and maybe only one cook), despite the fact that it was Media Super Sunday AND the second Eagles game of the season. We ordered our food around the same time as the table next to us. They received AND FINISHED their food, and in all that time the waitress never checked on us (we badly needed more ice for our lukewarm drinks). We finally flagged her down to ask for the ice and check on our order, and she assured us that she had "put it in," and that the order was "in the line." She later came back to say it wouldn't be more than 7 minutes. Well, it was. By the time we finally got our food, an hour had passed from the time we walked in the door - no, I am not exaggerating. And by the way, we ordered SALADS. It also took her a very long time to actually bring us the ice we asked for and, later, extra salad dressing when we asked for it. And she never actually checked on us, we always had to flag her down. (I consider the restaurant more at fault here than her, she was obviously stretched extremely thin. Bottom line is there should have been more people working on a day they HAD to know would be busier than normal.) I would have bumped my review up to 2 stars if the food had been anything to write home about, but it just wasn't. I was pleased to see such a creative salad on the menu - spinach with berries, melon, and other types of fruit - and the fruits and veggies were good, but the dressing tasted like nothing. At first we thought there wasn't enough (it did appear extremely dry) but when we were finally brought more (I was almost done eating my salad at that point), it became obvious it just wasn't very good dressing. And the iced tea was downright BAD.

I went to Dining with the Stars with friends and they picked this place. Despite the negative reviews, I figured I would try it and judge for myself. Sometimes good reviews don't always equal a good experience. First off, they ran out of mac n cheese on the kids menu when they told us they had it. Second of all we had a table of 10, ordered food and plenty of drinks. They were making money off us. They forgot my meal and told me 3 x it was coming. I finally ask the manager to be honest and she says okay we forgot it. It finally arrives after I ask a couple times. They don't offer to give us a comp or discount. I had to ask and the manager refuses and gives me a crappy $4 beer on tap. When my scallop slider meal arrives, it's slimy and swimming in some mayo aioli that was flavorless. My boyfriend ordered the shepard's pie andI can honestly say that a Budget Gourmet one would have been 10x better. If you want to go for a beer, it may not be a bad place. For food, would not recommend. Since we were a larger party, they added gratuity. I did not want to make a stink with a large group. If it was just me, I would have left a 5% tip and that's being generous.

I like Sligo. Pretty nice place and they always have good craft beer on tap. Personally a fan of the "IPA tap". Over the last few months they've had: Avery, Loose Cannon, and a really cool German Maiback from Rogue (Oregan Brewery) called Dead Guy Ale. Never had the food as I've only been there to play quizzo with the media townies. It's a solid go-to place if you're not into the Joclyn's scene.

Somewhere between Meh and A-OK. I attended a meeting here in the front bar area at the tables behind the bar. Happy hour was ending so there were some luke-warm mozzarella sticks and dried out wings in a chafing dish. Yuck. (But free.) The food I ordered (albeit a garden salad) was fresh but boring. Others plates looked unappetizing - fish & chips was a huge piece of fish in a THICK coating of batter. (And chips which I don't eat). Servers were pleasant and owner is a wonderful supporter of the community and my kid's school - but I am not impressed by the "classic" pub fare. Also it gets LOUD in there, but that is a sign of a good pub. Blah.

I don't know what's happened in the last 2 weeks, but the food has been AMAZING. Yesterday my Family and I went there for lunch and the Server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She recommended the Chefs 2 am Burger special with a Bacon jam and fried egg on top which was a ONE of a kind experience in itself. My 5 year old niece said that she had the BEST chicken fingers ever. I would highly recommend this establishment.

This place had a good run but it's gone way downhill, the food is terrible and the service is worse. Heaven help you if you end up here on a Friday night and aren't a college kid, this is why the respectable patrons are frequenting places further up the street. Food is frozen, sub-standard fare, there really is no reason to come here.

    (1)

5 stars for beer but very much lacking on the food end. I've ordered salads, mussels, and a burger here and all have come out sub-par. Guinness pours are A+ and Sligo always has good sports games on TV. Come here for the brews but not the food.

First time..last time!! Just went in for some food and drinks after work. The waitress spilled a tray with 5 drinks in my lap. I was not offered a towel and when the bill came there was no discount. 10% would have gone a long way to make things right. She did apologize but it's 19 degrees out and I was soaked from my thighs to inside my shoes. Not a good walk to the car! The food was meh and the drinks were ok but not to wear!

Well I was excited to try the restaurant but after waiting 30 minutes for a table I sat for 20 minutes waiting for a menu while watching the customers seated with us get drinks, menus and have orders taken. Sadly and to my dismay the front of house manager just looked at us and did nothing so my party of four walked out and still he said nothing while watching us leave. Shame because they threw away an easy 200 dollar check.

Great place forr a good beer in Everyone's Hometown of Media. Buddy and me sidled up to the bar where a good selection of craft beers on tap (read Yard's Brawler, Victory and Troegs) were poured by a welcoming staff. Good beer, good service and great atmosphere. Food looked good coming out of the kitchen and we will return. Thanks

Time to stay away. This has gone from decent to meh to wow, seriously bad in food terms, and even the beer isn't much to speak of now. Time to close--no one is interested in actually making this work any more, that much is clear.

Went for dinner last night with the family. The food was just terrible - greasy and unattractive and it tasted worse than it looked. The only thing worse than the food was the service. This is probably one of the worst places that I have ever set foot in.

Wow, I was here for a professional young engineers meeting last night. I had the beer on tap- Smithwick's which was pretty good. Finger food for that night was the chicken tenders, stuffed mushrooms with scallops and spinach, and sausage with grilled peppers and onions. Well, the chicken tenders were a bit dry for me. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious and it took some time for me to figure out the small white bits inside were scallop pieces. The sausage with grilled peppers and onions were fantastic on a roll. This was much better than Capozzoli's Catering in Ridley which skimmed out the grilled peppers and onions. Only downside is the parking and driving on State Street. Parking is all metered and may be difficult to find. However, it's free after 6PM- nice perk. The driving can be a bit challenging. There is absolutely no clearance between the SEPTA 101 trolley tracks in between the street lanes. Street parking totally blocks off any means of creeping off to the side to allow the trolley to pass through. Plus, the trolleys pretty much bully themselves so that you have to leave State Street in fear getting plowed by them. Yeah, they are worse than deer in front of head lights. The trolleys actually charge in front of you. No backing down honestly. The trolley operator didn't even gester to me on what to do. No signage on who has right of way, etc.

Hands down Sligo has the best Guinness pour in all of Delaware County. I can't tell you how many times my pint has tasted like metal because of CO2 lines, or I've watched bartenders pour the head off my beer or I've received a Guinness in a Budweiser glass, but it's been enough that I'll buy a can over ordering a draft Guinness if I'm anywhere but Sligo in Media. Their Irish faire will satiate any Irish Pub goer and if you have a more sensitive palate, the muscles, winter boxty and Irish breakfast should meet your needs. If you haven't been here in a while, you should try out the new chef/menu and revisit the media atmosphere within. Just don't take my bar stool. It's to the left of the taps.

We go here regularly. The food is a little overpriced but it is tasty. The beer selection is pretty weak but it is manageable. What I like about this place is the atmosphere. Yes, it can get a bit crowded at times, but in the summer they open the two big windows in the front so there's a nice air flow in the bar. The waiters are mostly friendly and attentive. They occasionally have music on weekends. There is also an upstairs area for parties and Quizo on Tuesday nights.

Love this bar! My husband and I go when we want a really filling meal and a beer. their food is surprisingly good. My favorite entree is the buffalo chicken salad and my husband's is the fish and chips. And Ann V, that was the Bangers and Mashed!! Interesting dish. Just give me my salad and a couple of cold Blue Moons and I'm set to go!

Dear God... what the?! Stopped in on a rainy night... probably not the best night to do a lil pub crawl in town. First time in town, so first, and last, time I'll be coming here. Found the bar to be moderately busy, no seats available at the bar. Lively crowd, and you could tell they were probably all locals. The only seat at the bar that was available was a four top at the front window, which myself and my friend took. The waitress, CLEARLY was not thrilled that we sat there. She quickly, curtly, took our drink orders and brought us two menus. I HATE laminated menus. If I were at a greasy spoon, I would expect it. But really??? Laminated bi-fold menus? Returning with our drinks she quickly deposited them and walked away without asking about placing a food order. No big deal, we had already eaten, and were looking for something simple anyway. The menu looked unappealing at the best, and having already eaten elsewhere we chose to stay with something simple. The "Sligo Tenders", "Sourdough pretzel breaded chicken cutlets" were terrible. Burned, dry, and tasting of overused fry oil, we didn't even bother finishing them. How they passed a line inspection, if there even was one, heading out the pass is unimaginable. The honey mustard served with it tasted as if it was straight from a jar. If this is what the kitchen puts out for appetizers it doesn't speak highly for expectations of their "Irish Specialties" Our waitress, ugh, made the experience memorable, however for the wrong reasons. Terrible demeanor, and pretty much rude. Granted, maybe she was having a rough night, bad tips, rude patrons, whatever the case may be... she showed it. Then again maybe there is a reason she gets tipped poorly and has rude patrons, and it's her attitude. Regardless, pass this place up for something better in town.

Went for a friends birthday celebration on Saturday night. Media was bumping, with people everywhere, but Sligo was a great spot. Bartenders were outstanding - in spite of it being mobbed, all three were on their game all night. Prices on drinks were good and we never had to wait more then a moment or two for our next round. Waitresses were great too, constantly vigilant of our tables. Menu looked good, and specials looked excellent. We will have to try it for a meal, but as a spot on a Saturday night, it was terrific. Good band playing, good crowd, good prices, great staff.

Ah, my beloved Packys...what has become of you? Yes, I remember when the Sligo locale was Packy's and then Bootlegger Buck's and then probably a handful of other failed bars. That Sligo has seemed to dig in and make a name for itself is heartening, but it has lost some of the local charm. Going for the feel of an Irish pub, complete with Irish food offerings (that shouldn't scare you off - the food is good), Sligo classes the west end of Media up a bit. Though the food and drink is probably about $2 too expensive, it's still good enough to enjoy and not get too upset about it. It has both a bar section (with high tables, including booths in the windows) and a dining section. There is no physical divider between the two sections however, so noise can bleed into the dining section if the bar gets particularly raucus. Tvs show the standard sporting competitions (though occasionally the bartenders have to be given a friendly nudge to put on the local teams, but other than that, this is a nice little place to grab a beer and meet a friend. One thing is does boast is not only bathrooms for men and women (of course) but a third unisex bathroom. Not a huge deal until you find yourself dancing through the tables toward the back after imbibing one too many Guiness.

I'm a fan of Sligo's if only for the great pour of Guinness and the solid Irish fare (Shepherds Pie almost as good as mom's). The rest of the menu is pretty good, if a little small, and they carry a nice variety of beers to please others in your group. As for most places in Media, it may be a little over priced, but not by much. It's a decent place to hang out at night with a group of friends and you can catch whatever game on either the two tv's behind the bar or their over sized 12 ft HD projection screen. Watched a few Phillies playoffs games here over the past few years and it was a great atmosphere. Not my first recommendation to people in the area, but it fills the niche of an Irish pub in Media, especially when you need a pint and some bangers and mash!

Blah. Food was just ok. Wish I was in the mood for beer because it looked like they had some pretty good selections. If I came back here, it would be strictly for the beer and NOT the food.

I happen to love Sligo and frequent it quite a bit. But, there is something on my mind that is bothering me. The beer selection is awful and needs some serious attention. They have TOO many domestic beers on tap for one. Be creative please. Get with the program and start offering very good craft beers. Dogfish Head doesn't cut it. Plus, the lines need to be cleaned in such a bad way. All the beers have the same taste to them. An awful taste. I have been ordering draft beers for years, but refuse to order one more until this is changed. Make those taps colorful. Just because you are an "IRISH" bar doesn't mean everything has to be "IRISH" and drab.

Back when Sligo opened it was a refreshing change for the Media dinning scene. Sadly the passing of time has not been good for Sligo. The venerable Fish and chips, once served on a paper bag, with a large portion of fish and loads of chips has become two over fried "fish sticks" served with chips that were an hour or so past their prime. One of our party ordered the chicken pot pie, which was slightly burnt and lacking in chicken. We stopped in to play trivia as our usual haunt, Iron Hill had canceled trivia the previous Monday due to the World Series. This had to be the worst trivia I have ever witnessed! The trivia guy seemed to be using a Mr. Microphone and a single speaker with audio quality just slightly better than two cans and a string. Avoid the trivia and dine there at your own risk. If enough Yelpers complain they may turn things around before they disappear.

Back when I was a good Democrat and spent too much of my time at the DelCo Dems HQ, I would oftimes pop into Sligo for a drink. It's good food, and reasonably priced drinks. I asked for them to turn on the football one time and I guess I should have said soccer because they started looking for some college football game that wasn't on. Thankfully though, they had fox soccer channel and I sat, chillaxed, and did my normal Center City Saturday morning routine in Delco.

Okay, what the hell happened to the food here? It used to be awesome, well seasoned, always cooked the way you requested and came out in a timely manner...not anymore. My boyfriend, Mike, and I went here for lunch and and drink only to leave annoyed and knowing that was the last time we'd come. We sat and our waitress, who was okay, took our orders. Mike had the Traditional burger, medium rare. It came out medium well and said he could have had the same thing at a diner. I ordered the bangers and mash which was nothing short of disappointing. The potatoes were pretty good, but the bangers were kind of foul. SUPER tough and gamey tasting...odd all around. I sent them back (which this is first time I've ever sent anything back) and didn't order anything else. The waitress took it off our check, and said another customer said the same thing about his sausage. Sad, because the old chef was awesome and I don't know what happened to him.

I made my first trip to Sligo two weeks ago. My friends and I arrived after the kitchen had closed, so I can't comment on the food, but the drinks were good. The service was nothing special, though they were helpful when asked. I particularly recommend their grasshopper.

Does anyone know where Chef Tim went? the food here is basically bar food now (not awful) but when this guy was here it was really incredible. I can understand why his food wouldn't be a fit in a local bar but does anyone know where this guy wet? I would love to have some of his creations again.

Good place to go for drinks after work....food not great....about average. A little expensive for what it is...usually have to stand (It's fairly small place). Chris O. is right...Packy's was better. Decent feel of pub, but wish there were more Irish bands. Needs a bit more room, too.
