This is my first time trying indian cuisine in the Delco area. Normally I get it in the city or Cherry Hill. Yes, there is better Indian cuisine out there, but for what I can get in the middle of Deleware County; this is darn good Indian food. My family had the Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Korma. The Masala had a nice sweet taste to it and the Korma has just enough spice for my family that does not like spicy food.

I love this place..I cant seen to stay away from my Indian cuisine. I was in Media for court and I was hungry for something yummy. They I all of a sudden i had Indian in my mind. The small amount of items in the buffet lunch is great. The have some of my favorite items such as Chicken masala, tandori chicken and acouple more. I could not leave with out having a mango lassi. I cant wait to go back.

A friend of mine dropped in here for the lunch buffet, it was delicious and a great deal. I fell in love with their Chicken Tikka Masala, whenever we are looking for some unique takeout that is our first choice! Great food and the buffet is a great value.

(still vegan / vegetarian) They dropped their prices! So now there is really nothing to keep me from giving them 5 stars. Nice people, great food, and now under $10 per entree! See You there :-)

Love this place. Best Indian food in the area by far

I'm a huge fan of spicy. I started out weak but I feel like I have a decent resistance to anything high on the Scoville Scale with the exception of the hottest ghost pepper sauces. I walked into this dimly lit establishment and decided to sit and their bar area. I was craving curry chicken... The place was fairly empty for a Saturday but the Yelp reviews reassured me that this is decent Indian food. The bar tender quickly set me up with the cold Coors Light but I assured him that I did not need a menu. "Curry Chicken, extra spicy...throw in some Naan too". He seemed to hesitate for some reason but none the less put my order in. Shortly after, a gentleman came up to me to clarify that I did in fact ask for this curry to be extra spicy. I confirmed and sealed my fate. I shook hands with the devil. This was some of the spiciest chicken curry I have ever eaten...but not unfairly spicy. I seem to have a problem finding an Indian restaurant that has tender chicken but this place got it right. Each bite was a fiery inferno of deliciousness. I chatted for a little while with someone who seemed to be the manager. He told me about how they grow their own chilli peppers and some other ingredients as well. Oh, and the naan was fluffy and perfect for dipping. I haven't eaten Indian food too many times unfortunately but this place ranks up there as some of the best I've had.

We arrived around 2 pm on a weekday and were pleased to see that the buffet was still open. The restaurant was empty aside from one other woman sitting near us. The staff took good care of us and made sure the food was hot and fresh. We were delighted with the selection they had in the buffet: multiple curries, rice selections, veggie dishes, and of course samosas. The price is too cheap for the quality that you get, which is great! We will definitely return here again.

  • Diane G.

I haven't eaten here yet, but had their samosa at one of media's street fairs. Anywhere I see a samosa I will buy it, so I have tried a lot of samosas. This was by far, the best one I have ever tasted. Light, soft, fluffy potatoes, gently spiced, lightly fried, with a side a tamarind sauce I never get anywhere else. Unbelievable. Most samosas are heavy, greasy, oily, ultra spicy. Which I also like of course, but this was just a huge step above that, never knew a 5 star gourmet samosa existed. Can't wait to try their other stuff.

It seems to me that there's something odd going on with Shere-E-Punjab. We had a couple of quite decent meals and some good delivery experiences with the restaurant in 2008/early 2009. Then later in 2009 some slightly off meals, where dishes were ok but there was something not quite right. And then we had a catastrophic delivery experience where we were told that many items formerly on the menu were no longer available, and what did end up ordering came and it was nearly inedible. I've had one similar experience eating in the restaurant since that bad delivery, which included a very unpleasant server. That's enough for me to feel like there's a negative trend going on. Not sure why, and I hope they can get back to where they were, which was serving decent if not spectacular Indian food. A side note: if the owners spent as much time trying to address the issues they're having as they appear to spend creating shill reviews for the restaurant, I think they'd be in good shape in no time.

They first time trying Indian food was here about a year ago. have fell in love with the place and the food. I have tried other places in pa and Delaware, and nothing has compared. I make it my priority to go at least once a week and if I could go more I would. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great, and the staff is attentive. The food is out of this world in taste and quantity.

My coworkers and I really like this place. We've come several times for their weekday lunch buffet, which features a somewhat limited albeit delicious array of Indian dishes. Everything is kept hot and the selections are sometimes different, but the taste is always consistent. I never remember what I'm eating once everything's on the plate, but you can't go wrong with an adventurous spirit! Their naan is really good but empties fast and oftentimes isn't restocked quickly. They also have a salad bar selection with one or two dessert options. You can of course order from the menu but we found the lunch buffet to be a better deal for sampling different flavors. The inside is spacious and empty enough during lunchtime but not desolate. Booth seating is great for conversations and larger tables for work luncheons. Service was polite. The bathroom is TINY for such a nice looking place though. The food is heavy, and it's easy to over-indulge, but overall a very solid place for lunch in Media.

Heard about the good quality of Indian cuisine here. I must say, I was not disappointed. I ordered the chicken vindaloo. It was delicious! The sauce was well balanced and full of fresh spices. The chicken was very tender and seasoned well. Service was very warm and comfortable. Very nice bar area. Well stocked. You don't always see this at most Indian restaurants. You could tell the staff here are passionate about their product and service.

Very very good food but just terrible service. We made a reservation which apparently confused all of the staff. They didn't know where to seat us even though there were several tables. Once we got a table we waited a full 30 minutes before being acknowledged by a waiter and then another 45 to get food. And it wasn't just us, we noticed the same with the tables around us. That being said, everything was delicious and fairly reasonable. We ordered two dishes and split - lamb karahi and chicken tikka masala. Both were incredibly flavored and well cooked. I'm not sure which I liked better. We got the original naan to dip too which was a nice touch.

My whole family got sick eating here. We complained and they said we bought the product too bad. I tried to put a hold on my credit card and they fought it saying we brought the product. We did not know until a few hours later that we got food poisoning. Stay away!!!!

This was the second time we visited since the new location. I have very mixed feeling about it. While I enjoy the space, I miss the old vibe. I also feel like certain things have gone downhill. My dum aloo doesn't seem quite the same. The service is slightly chaotic as well. I will return regardless, since I have not had better Indian.

I recently started eating Indian food, and now have become somewhat obsessed with it. I was looking for a place close to home, and stumbled across the reviews on here for Shere. I frequent Media all the time, and have never really had a bad meal, so we figured we would give it a shot. The bar is huge, and they have a really good draft beer selection at a decent price $5. The décor is dark and intimate. We were there on a Saturday night around 6, and the place was about half full. Our waiter was attentive, but didn't hover. We started with an appetizer sampler of the vegetable samosa, pakora, and chicken kabobs. All were done well. We ordered the chicken korma, chicken curry, and garlic naan. The korma was so creamy, just a wonderful dish. The curry had the perfect consistency, and they hit the spice level dead on. A 4 (they go to 5) was just enough kick without being overpowering. The naan was also good. Not quite as fluffy as I have seen in other places. Our bill for that food and 3 beers was $65. A little more than we are used to paying, but for the full experience it is worth it. I also got some takeout here less than a week later to see how it would be. I can say that nothing was lost in picking the food up rather than dining inside. We basically ordered the same items, the only difference being we had the lamb samosa, and it was excellent. They come stuffed with lamb, and it has a nice spice level as well. By picking the food up, we saved around $20 and drank a bottle of wine a home. I highly recommend!

Food is pretty decent and good price.. the service however SUCKED.

  • Tiffany S.

The Good: The environment is very very nice. Cozy, warm. The food, while I am certainly no expert on Indian cuisine, was delicious and satisfying. The portions were decent. The questionable: I had the sense that I was being a little nickle-and-dimed. Having to pay extra for naan? Rice not coming with some of the dishes (extra charge)? It just felt odd.

  • Vamsi C.

It's a decent Indian cuisine with good western ambience. Main course order took bit late, you can dine n booze. Menu was pretty decent n taste was ok but I felt bit expensive compared to taste n quality quantity..

Expansion Ruins a Favorite We and one or two couples have eaten here regularly over the years. Great food, BYOB, with a pleasant, busy, bistro feel on a Saturday night. In expanding into the building next door, we think they have misjudged, and ruined the place. Other than the low lighting and claret walls, the dining area could be any mid-range restaurant serving any type of food in any part of America. Add to that, $18 for what seems like a smaller portion, and waiters stopping by at the table every five minutes to where we just wanted to ask them 'Please, leave us alone, stop asking if we need anything!', we left disappointed. I wish them all the best, and perhaps others will like it, but we are now looking for an authentic Indian to visit.

  • Yashi M.

Wasn't impressed with the pick up and the fact charge is different from the yelp menu and no one wanted to compensate ... Not very welcoming/ service was dismissing ...Hoping the food is great

They offer cuisine from the Punjab region of north India and it is totally worth a try. The usual Tikka Masala and Malai Kofta offerings are on the menu, but the spices are warmer than in other Indian restaurants. The heat is there, but it seems to so naturally blend into the dish that it feels just as it should be. Their naan and dipping sauces are a delicate balance between savory and sweet (they can do things with a cilantro sauce that will make you smile). I hold back from 5 stars for one reason: I ordered their eggplant dish and it still had the stems on it. I had to spit them out. It was a really frustrating moment in an otherwise great meal. I know how to cook eggplant. The stems should have been cut off.

  • Matt B.

Not the best Indian food I've had but pretty darn close. Anyway, this is the only Indian restaurant in Media so I order takeout from here pretty often. Love their chicken korma. Their lunch buffet is pretty awesome and can get busy. Great beer selection too.

Prices are good, food is OK. After reading all the reviews I had very high expectations, but was disappointed with the food. Nothing wrong with the service and/or the place. After having tried real Indian food in India, I think there are better restaurants serving India food in this region. Nice place and nice service though. I can tell you that this is not fine dinning based on my standards.

Been eating Indian food for a couple decades. I rarely see entrees I haven't tried but Shere-E-Punjab had a few less common dishes. Star points, right there. Restaurant was busy but immediately offered a window table (must have been looking fine). Waiters were courteous but the waitress was funny, warm, and charming. Even though she wasn't really our server, she checked on us repeatedly with all smiles. And the food as good.

This is our favorite restaurant by far. We go there all the time. Little bit pricey but it worth every penny. Food is awesome every time we go there Just the way we like it. Ever since we started going there We have also tried other Indian restaurant but nothing comes close to this one. Keep up the good work.

Quite possibly the dumbest staff you can imagine work here. I went to pick up a catering order and they said they didnt have it. I told them exactly what it was, went at the right time and gave my name and phone number and they lied and said they had no such order. Later my wife called and turns out they had fabricated the whole event. This place is run by utter morons!

I've been stalking the suburban Philly area for good Indian food for over a year and last week I hit the jackpot. My boo and I went to Shere-E-Punjab last Saturday night for dinner, we brought a bottle of wine and were ready to hunker down and enjoy some saucy Indian goodness. We arrived at about 7:30 and were seated right away. With us, the dining room was about 3/4 full. They seated us at a table for two but the table itself was miniature. Just with the bottle of wine, water glasses, and wine glasses, and place setting it was kind of precarious. Once our naan and entrees showed up there was seriously no room and was tough to pour wine and share our food. With that being said, the limited space was my only complaint. The food was awesome, albeit a tad mild for me: when asked how much spice we wanted when ordering the waitress talked us out of our answer of "hot" , so we went for "medium"...we should have stuck to our guns, we'll know for next time. The portions were pretty small, but that's nothing new with Indian restaurants. The garlic naan was light and crispy and they replenished our rice without hesitation. Vegetable samosas were flavorful and crispy without being greasy. and the clincher for me was that they had Kheer (rice pudding), a hidden gem of Indian cuisine. We'll definitely be back!

Lunch buffet is baller. Freshest, lightest, most buttery naan. Ever. Rice pudding and mango pudding(?) is some of the best I've ever had.

My first time trying Indian. I would say my neutral rating is due to the service. The waitress didn't introduce herself or any specials and didn't explain the menu it was just a "what do you want." We guessed and picked a few things, they were good. Then when the bill came she put it on the table and in under a minute came back and picked it up before we even looked at it. Waitress then said "how are you paying" I felt awkward because we hadn't pick it up and it was a first date and she put the bill in front of me. I was hoping my date would be chivalrous, and he was but it was uncomfortable with the waitress coming back picking it up and seeing we didn't put a card in the book yet , because we weren't ready and she kept putting the bill back down, in front of me! This happened about three times. In my prior service experience you put the check in the middle, not in front of one person especially the lady of a date. Unsure if I'll go back.

Ive had dinner multiple times and everything was good, figured id try the lunch buffet. Have to say the place looks great but the buffet was just not up to the dinner standard they set for themselves.

I used to dine at Shere-E-Punjab when I lived in Media, but hadn't been there in maybe 5 years. We returned to try out the carefully-labeled gluten-free options on their menu, and we were NOT disappointed. I ate until it HURT. We started with the aloo tiki chaat - a recipe that we have vowed to try to re-create at home. It was truly excellent, and so large it could be an entree on its own. We made up the rest of our meal with our favorites (chana masala, dahl mahkani, and aloo gobi) which left us with plenty of leftovers. We were somewhat confused about their BYO status, since they have a wine menu, but other seemed to be carrying-in. Would save ourselves some money & BYO the next time. Taking a nice walk around Media to work off some of that delicious food is a must. ;)

I personally don't come to this location as often as I should. Reason being, the location in Drexel Hill is closer. Simple enough. I do consider the Drexel Hill location one of the finest Indian restaurants in the area. Today, i was kicking around Media, and the wife wanted their buffet for takeout. So I stopped by and filled up a container with Navrattan Korma, Malai Kofta, Seeth Kabob, and a Samosa. They wrapped some hot naan in foil and off I was. Total price was just under $12 for the container. I will say this... I hadn't done buffet take out from Shere-E-Punjab before. I've done it from similar places. Maybe it's my eyes, but I felt the container they gave me was a bit smaller than others. Considering the buffet price tends to be higher here than other places, I have to raise an eyebrow. Taste-wise, in my mind they still got it as I got to sample what the wife didn't eat. But for some reason, the wife didn't like the Malai Kofta as much as she usually does. Maybe this chef just didn't make it a certain way. I was OK with it. This place gets 4 stars then. If my Mumbai born wife doesn't like something Indian as much, I have to factor that in. I will assure you that 99% of the time she loves it here, and so do I. Plus, it's a little cramped here. But that's just Media I suppose. If you wish, go to the Drexel Hill location. Better parking, easier seating, and just as good food.

Can two places hold the Gold Standard for Indian lunch buffets? In this case the answer is yes as these folks have two locations; Media and Drexel Hill. The lovely wife and I have enjoyed lunch at the Drexel Hill location many many times and visited this location a few times including once for dinner. The lunch buffet is absolutely amazing. When many many folks of Indian decent, or who have Indian spouses, or who have lived in India all say this is the real deal you know it's something special. During the week it's 10 bucks and on the weekend it goes up a buck or two. It doesn't get much better than that. If you are a vegetarian you will be in heaven. If you are a flesh eater you'll find chicken and lamb choices. There is no Naan on the buffet here. They automatically bring you a basket of hot, fresh, fluffy, deliciousness. The wife thinks the Korma sauce is to die for and I agree. We have always found everything appropriately spiced. Both locations have great Yelp reviews but the Drexel Hill locations are a little higher. For me it's not the food it's the seating. This location can be a little tight. The Drexel Hill location gives you a little more room. If you are in town around lunch time any day of the week these folks are a must try.

I really like this place. I'm no expert on Indian cuisine, but this is just delicious food. Fresh, perfect naan (I'm sure there's a legit tandoor back there), creamy and spicy curries and decent selection of drinks. The rice really stands out too. Service can be a little hit or miss, but recently they've stepped up their game. Try the Lamb Korma: Soft, tender meat and a perfectly balanced sauce. Quick note: I know they have some kind of buffet lunch- this is not a good indicator of what these guys can deliver. Go for dinner and order something legit.

Came to this location with high hopes as I often go to the Glen Mills location and find it rather enjoyable. I stopped by on my work break to get some food to go. Being vegan, I ordered dishes marked with a (V); the tandoori roti and the mixed vegetables. At first inspection it looked good so I went home to consume. When I got home, I saw that my tandoori roti was soaked in butter. Since it wasn't described to have butter on the menu, I gave the restaurant a call to see what the deal was. He told me that it always comes with butter and didn't offer anything to make it right. A simple apology would have been great or even an offer to replace the bread, but I got nothing. He just handled me and hung up. Needless to say, today is the last day I give this place my business. I would not recommend Shere-E-Punjab, Media to anyone looking for a pleasant dinner experience.

Delicious food! I took my husband here for his birthday. He's not an adventurous eater and usually sways away from anything that isn't burger or Italian. But he LOVED it. All the food was deliciously spiced and smelled incredible. The place is small but I've never had an issue getting a seat pretty quickly. The food is fairly priced and you get a huge amount of food for the price. We were eating leftovers for several days. The staff could use a lesson in smiling. They're always polite, but they never smile... But the food more than makes up for it! Don't miss it if you're in Media!

A varied and quality selection of all-you-can-eat Indian food? Yes, please! Went here for lunch earlier today for the buffet. So delicious. In addition to a delicious selection of maybe five curries, both veg and non-veg, there was meat (tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, and kebab), a salad bar, lentil soup, nan bread, samosa, lentil patties, two types of biryani rice, sauteed cabbage, rice patties, various chutneys, raita yogurt, spicy sauce (recommended for those who want a bit more kick!). Oh yeah, and save room for a bite of mango pudding for dessert! We ate... and we ate... long past the psychological barrier of fullness... until we could physically longer eat. Everything was unique-tasting and well-spiced. For those seeking spice, I recommend the lamb vindaloo. An amazing deal at about $10 a person. What a satisfactory experience. Since I'm going to be spending a lot more time around Media this year, you can bet I'll be heading back. The service was friendly and attentive. My dining partner forgot his phone and we had to rush back in a few minutes after leaving; they quickly and professionally returned it to us. They also have cocktails and beer, nice.

Tried this restaurant for the first time and it was delicious. I loved everything I ate. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the selection on the buffet was perfect. There was an equal sampling of meat and vegetarian dishes and I was able to fill my plate with fragrant and savory vegetable creations. The service was very good and the staff friendly and accommodating. The pricing was incredibly reasonable, too. I am looking forward to going again very soon!

OK the only downfall here was a bit of lackluster service. Thats the 1 star deduction. Now for the main event....The food. If I went to some of my Indian friends houses and their Mom cooked for us, this is what I expect it to taste like. I felt like Mom was in the kitchen serving up recipes she has been making for years, and her mother before and so on. The samosas were crunchy and spicy and warm and a great start. The chicken Korma was creamy and spicy apnd all what sauce didnt get mixed with the wonderful basmati rice got sopped up by the pillowy garlic Naan bread. Nothing says good Indian food like a case of the headsweats. This little place is nestled at the end of State near Orange. Make the trek, take a couple extra steps and get here to fulfill that next craving.

Had ordered carryout from here once before, and maybe popped in with the wife for a quick dinner shortly after we moved into the area, but that was some years back. Went on Sunday morning for brunch with my wife and our 3 month old (who slept through the meal in her stroller). What a feast. Service was polite, attentive and fast. Food was fresh, hot, flavorful and unique. Price was great. Being of Indian descent, I am careful with my Indian food and there are alas more subpar attempts then real hits around here. This place wowed us. The buffet had both traditional and unique choices, and everything was so good. Not overly spicy but not bland either. Tandoori chicken and naan were both excellent. Mango lassi was great, dessert was great, we will be returning for sure sooner as opposed to later. A wonderful brunch.

Enjoyed the lunch buffet here yesterday. Lots of vegetarian options, but only 1 chicken dish (not including the tandoori chicken). Everything was well spiced (I find buffet offerings are often intentionally bland for 'lowest common denominator' appeal). The naan is delivered to your table vs. on the buffet line, but was some of the best I've had--hot, a bit fluffier than usual and delicious! I'm usually too full for dessert after Indian buffet, but I did try the one sweet offering they had and wished I hadn't--very strange texture and chalky taste. So, skip that, and you'll have some great eating!

My friends and I went to media on a Wednesday night, for "Dining under the stars", and we ate at Shere-E-Punjab, at an outdoor table on the street. It was a nice setting, and there was a live band, which was fun. The food was very good, the waiters & waitresses were prompt and courteous. We had vegetable samosas, coconut soup, tandoori roti (so so), and they were all good. The samosas could have used a little more spice however. I had shrimp tikka masala, which was tasty, my friends had lamb dishes. Everything was good.

I had been told repeatedly that this was THE PLACE in the Media area for Indian food, and for my buffet lunch, I found that to be true. I trucked over from Frazer during my last week working there, when I wasn't concerned about how long my lunch would take. The ambience was very nice, not cheap looking like recent finds in Frazer, and there were lots of options for veggie or meat eaters.

I've never actually been inside Shere-E-Punjab, so I can't comment on the service, but I've eaten the food plenty of times through delivery and catered events. It's not the best Indian food I've ever had, but I don't know enough about Indian food to make real judgments about quality or "authenticity" (whatever that is). I've sampled many other things they serve at catered events and nothing has been disappointing, with the possible exception of the achingly sweet desserts. I love love love palak paneer and their version is very good. That is what I usually order when I get delivery. The naan is not exceptional, but it's also not bad or mediocre. It's pricey, and delivery can be very slow, but if you're in the area and you're craving Indian food, there's probably no better place to go.

This food is amongst the best Indian food that I've had in the United States... and their buffet is by far the best Indian buffet that I've ever had anywhere. I was in the Navy and spent a lot of time hanging around parts of the world with great Indian food and let me tell you that this joint ranks out there with the best. And my wife, who lived in India for almost a year and traveled all over India and climbed Everest... well, she knows Indian food, cappish? And she loved this place as well. When we first went there, she tasted the food and immediately guessed what part of India it came from... the staff was amazed! We've had both a la carte and the amazing buffet, which has quite a diverse variety of vegetarian, poultry, lamb, salads and wonderful sweets as well. This place makes Media a destination for Indian food... I hope the city fathers know what a jewel they have there.

Coming from the Bay Area, my wife and I have lofty expectations. Ambiance was nice for an Indian restaurant, waitstaff was awkwardly inattentive. Food really stood out for being bad - the marsala had too much tomato, and the Vindaloo was the exact same base without the cream. Shrimp had unsavory taste of iodine. I'll keep looking, or start having friends from SF freeze and overnight...

I recently went here with the hubby and a friend and we got the vegetable pakora to start- which was like veggies and hushpuppies all in one- YUM! Then we each got an entree: chicken tikki masala, lamb roganjosh, and lamb vindaloo. Each dish was superb, authentic, and exactly what it should be. The sauces for each were so good I wanted to drink them. Had I saved any room in my tummy, I just might have! The place was reasonably priced and the staff/service was just okay. All-in-all, a great addition to Media's varied dinner spots. The lunch buffet looked promising, too, and is only $9.95 on weekdays, $10.95 on wknds.

Love this place! Eat there regularly and really enjoy the cuisine. The only reason I didn't grant a 5 is because it can be over prices; however the lunch buffet is a steal!

I love this place. I usually go here at least once every time I'm in town. The lunch buffet is one of the best deals around. The buffet menu changes regularly, but everything is really good.

I was lucky to find this place a few blocks from a funeral I was attending tonight. I'd arrived in the area and was hoping to grab dinner before the service began. I phone it in and it was ready in under 15 minutes. For $22.50 I got a large portion of Saag Paneer, one order of Naan, and one order of Raita. I paid slightly more than I would have liked to, but it was worth it. The raita was heavily flavored with cumin, which I love, and although it was a bit saltier than I was expecting, I found that saltiness to be an excellent balance for the naan bread. The naan was very large, soft, and fluffy; some of the best I've ever had. The saag paneer (creamed spinach with spices and cheese) was also delicious. There were many cheese cubes, and a lovely spiciness (moderate heat) that I'm not used to in saag dishes. It was terrific. My food came with a large complimentary portion of rice and peas.

How this place escaped my notice for so long I'm not sure. "Friends" of mine knew about it, and yet they didn't tell me! Some friends... Went here for the lunch buffet and found it much better than Indian lunch buffet experience of yesterday (different place). $10 a head and fear not when you don't see naan on the buffet, they bring it to the table. I'm going to guess there were six entree choices, two or three sides, vegetable samosas, some other fried ball of veggie bits. I should really carry a pad and paper to these kinds of things. Like James mentioned there are lots of veggie friendly choices so it's a good place for meat/veggie discordant groups to go. I remember reading in a review of the place I tried yesterday that they played a muzak version of "The Final Countdown" and it must be something common amongst Indian restaurants because we were treated to a listening while we were here. Great service, good food, looking forward to going back.

So Shere-E-Punjab may be a staple for Swarthmore students venturing out for more exciting fare than Renato's and Cheng Hing's, and the food is pretty decent, but as previous reviews have intimated, they have some serious service issues. When they started offering delivery, my friends and I rejoiced - finally, decent food that didn't require a car for pickup! We ordered $40+ worth of different dishes, including several orders of naan (their naan is admittedly v. good, if overpriced). That was only the beginning of our adventure. Well over an hour later, we called, desperate, plaintive, begging for our food. They assured us that no, they had not forgotten, and yes, it would be coming. When? we asked. Soon, they replied. We could extract no further details. It was a full thirty minutes more before the delivery guy finally limped onto campus (understand that the restaurant is a ten minute drive away, fifteen max). After bestowing a generous tip on the good man who finally alleviated our starvation, we headed inside for a feast. We soon discovered that we had only received one order of naan, but been charged for everything we ordered. I don't know about the rest of you, but I pretty much hate eating Indian food if I can't scoop my food with bread. We called the restaurant, and they said they were sorry, all of their people had left and they could not come bring us the naan we were missing, but they would write down our names and info, and the next time we ordered they would give us the bread we paid for for free and a discount on the meal to repay us for the trouble. Well, maybe I'm an idiot for not getting something in writing, but I think you can guess what happened the next time I called and asked for my already-paid-for naan and discount. Not only did they not make good on the deal, they were nothing short of rude in responding to the suggestion that anyone at their establishment might ever have made such a promise. Now, their eggplant is amazing, their mango lassies are good and their chickpeas are extremely tasty in all forms. But they are unquestionably overpriced and poorly organized. I, for one, am not going back for a repeat performance.

I enjoy this place a lot. Went here on a Saturday night with a party of 3 and we were seated right away. They didn't have poori on the menu but the server said she could see if the kitchen would make it for us if we wanted. My whole group was happy with our food and there was plenty left over to take home. After negative experiences at other Indian restaurants, I will keep coming back here to get my fix of yummy paneer.

Great small place (40 seats). We had the daily buffet on Sunday 3/13/11 for$10.95/person, plenty of vegetarian (meatless) dishes on the buffet. Nice size pieces of tandoori chicken. We will definitely be back again!

There seems to be quite a discrepancy of opinions regarding this restaurant. I have been here more than 3 times and I have also eaten in many Indian restaurants in Philly. Each time I go here the food gets worse. The first time I was here it was so great I had to come back. but by the last time it was so expensive, the food was mediocre at best, and the service was just OK. I would love to love it here because it is in my neighborhood and so convenient, and I love to patronize ethnic food in my area, but sorry to say, I can't recommend it.

This place is really good. Not only do they cater, but they have a lunch buffet option. I just went with a couple friends and we started off with naan; I had garlic naan and it was great. Definitely get naan before you order your main dish. Then, I got the chicken tandoori and it was great. It was served on a hot pot with lots of onions. I'd also recommend the chicken vindaloo.

A friend of mine and I tried this place on a whim and were very, very pleased. I've only had their lunch buffet but I'm sure it's indicative of their dinner menu. Great breadth of selections for lunch including all the usual suspects, plus fresh warm bread brought to the table. All the dishes appear and taste fresh and the quality of ingredients is apparent. Lovely decor that is a big step up from many similar places. Ample vegetarian options for the cruelty-free set but meated options as well. I've since been back a half-dozen times with different people and everyone has been delighted every time. if you're in Media you might want to hit up Trader Joe's ( yelp.com/biz/trader-joes… ) as well and if you liked Shere-E-Punjab, check out Himalayan in Malvern ( yelp.com/biz/himalayan-e… ) .

I love this place, it is definitely a staple in my restaurant reportoire. My husband and I like to either dine in or get take out, both are great. Even though you can bring your own beverages, they also carry some Indian beers. I always get the garlic naan and veggie samosas and pretty much every entree is delicious. The staff is also very pleasant.

I've had dinner there twice so far. The first time, my boyfriend and I were one of the only people there since we went for an early dinner and the service was fast and wonderful. The second we went the place was packed and the service was a bit slower which is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars, not 5. The food is absolutely amazing though!! The naan is fresh, fluffy and hot and they will give you as much rice as you need with your dish. I've tried two of the lamb dished, the roganjosh and the korma, both of which were delicious! My boyfriend has had the chicken korma twice and loves it. Prices are quite reasonable, too.

A solid little Indian restaurant in Media. I've been twice and the food was good both times. My wife and I recently went for a lunch buffet special which was more expensive than most Indian restaurants' dinner buffets, so that was a little disappointing. If you don't feel like heading into Philadelphia and since there isn't an overabundance of Indian food in the area, this place is the best option I've found so far which may be why they can get away with charging a little bit more. The place was pretty crowded both times I've been.

I have eaten at just about every decent Indian restaurant in Philly and was not sure what to expect from sher-e-Punjab in media. To my pleasant surprise the food is outstanding. The samosas are on point as well as the nan bread. The soups are tasty as well. Absolutely love their Marsala dishes and what really make them are the quality of meat they use. The chicken and lamb are high quality not that fatty stuff....which cannot be said at many Indian restaurants. The tandoor is nicely spiced and really I haven't had a dish I didn't like there. Have dined in and take out...both are great but obviously Indian is best served piping hot so sit in if you can. Not to mention its byob so what more do you want? Highly recommended.

This place is amazing! Hubby found an advertisement for it and suggested we go up here one night for dinner. We walked in, without a reservation, and was seated within 10 minutes. Any questions I had, my waiter answered in depth for me and explained each dish, asked how much spice I'd like to it ect.... My hubby ordered for me since I was not sure what to get other than Tandoori chicken (which I always ordered), so he helped me, and i do believe it was a lamb dish. Was fabulous!

It's shocking to me to read the bad reviews of Shere-E-Punjab, because every time I've been here it's been a great experience with good service and delicious food. I've been here twice for the lunch buffet, which is a great deal. Last Sunday I went here for dinner with my family. The one slightly annoying element of our visit was that we had called the night before to make reservations, but when we showed, the restaurant was unaware of them and had no tables set up to fit 7 people (other reviewers have mentioned the small size of the restaurant). It ended up working out though because my parents were late, and by the time they arrived a table had cleared. We got the veggie samosas as an appetizer (very spicy! yummmm) and then each got different dishes to make our own kind of buffet by passing stuff around. Vegetarian dishes ordered: palak paneer, dum aloo, and navrattan korma (very buttery, very good!). Meat dishes ordered: lamb vindaloo, lamb korma, chicken makhani, and malai kabab. All of these were delicious except for the malai kabab, which was a bit dry. We also got the mixed bread basket, which had plain naan, garlic naan, onion kulcha, and tandoori roti. Every time I've been to Shere-E-Punjab the naan has been very fresh, and brushed with a little ghee. When you go for lunch they bring it to your table instead of having it on the buffet, which is a nice touch. Overall, I'd recommend Shere-E-Punjab to anyone, and it's one of my top dining choices in Media.

When I got home from work on Friday I asked the Lady what was for dinner and she said "out". What would you like "out" said I. Indian was her reply. The place in Media. The restaurant was very nice and we were seated immediately. The decor looked very Indian and I loved the paintings of Indian life on the walls. Now, I am not very experienced in Indian food so it is hard for me to say if the food was great Indian food, but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Mulligatawny Soup was excellent. We also had Vegetable Samosa, Lamb Karahi and Vegetable Biryani with Raita. The wait staff was very attentive and the owner made his round of the tables making sure every thing was in order. We will definitely go back for more. Maybe I'll become an expert.

Lived across the street from here for a year and always meant to try it. Finally made it in about 6 months ago and my wife and I have been back at least 5 times since. Outstanding food(not as spicy as a lot of indian places you encounter),great service, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Have not made it in for the buffet yet but i hear its top notch.

I came here once for an all you can eat buffet that was about $10.50. I was hoping for a better dessert selection but everything was still really good. The naan was ok, not the best I've ever had. Service was good, but all they really have to do at a buffet is keep the water glasses full and take away dirty dishes. I liked the paintings on the walls. Recommended.

Really tiny gem in Media, now expanded coverage in Drexel Hill. I have been visiting this place since it opened. Our boys *only* have their Chicken Butter Masala. Undoubtedly the very best there is. Other items on their menu is good, but for some reason, the CBM is spectacular. Be reminded that it is a BYO. There is a PA wine store about 2-3 blocks down on Main Street. Their choice of [Hindi] words to describe their menu is quite cute/amusing. For instance "Shuruvat" which literally means the "start" or begining (as in an inning) for the Appetizer menu, "Samunder se" meaning from the sea! As for comments about the wait staff, while I whole heartedly agree with previous Yelpers, one must give them a little leeway as it is pretty typical (I personally think it is cultural, but happy to be corrected by fellow Yelpers). Why did it take me so long to write this review? Well just happened to do a pick up and realized I had not put in my good word ;-))

We have eaten here twice, including today. I give it 4 stars because it is the best indian restaurant outside of philly downtown. I say this after living in downtown and southeast philly for almost a decade (& also haven eaten authentic indian in India !). I dont give it 5 stars only because we ordered malai kofta this evening and the kofta wasnt fresh. To the extent that we had to exchange it for Dum Aloo (which was great !) But I would still go to only two indian restaurants in the philly region - one is Cafe Spice in downtown and the other is Sher-e-punjab.

I've been going to this restaurant for a few years now and have even recommended it to friends of mine. On 2/7/09 I made a reservation for a party of 3 for 8:00pm. Our party arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation and were greeted by an overcrowded waiting area. We tried to get somebody's attention to let them know we were here (a waiter, hostess anybody) but nobody even acknowledged our presence or anybody else waiting for that matter. After about 15 minutes a table for 4 opened up which we thought would be ours, but a waiter arbitrarily gave that table to a party of 2 (who didn't even have reservations) without even asking us about our reservation. I had to fight my way through the crowd to grab the attention of a waitress and told her we had 8:00 reservations, to which she replied she "didn't do the seating", and just went to the back. We weren't seated until after 8:30. The food was decent, but I am hesitant to come back or recommend Punjab anymore based on their total lack of guest service and their lackadaisical attitude toward reservations. They know how to take reservations, they don't know how to HOOOOLD reservations. If they're going to ignore reservations they should not take them in the first place.

I cant wait to go back.

Lunch buffet is baller. Freshest, lightest, most buttery naan. Ever. Rice pudding and mango pudding(?) is some of the best I've ever had.

A friend of mine dropped in here for the lunch buffet, it was delicious and a great deal. I fell in love with their Chicken Tikka Masala, whenever we are looking for some unique takeout that is our first choice! Great food and the buffet is a great value.
