Great little place in Media. Good sandwich and fries. Great service. Was nice to see all young people working there too. We will come back for sure.

Awesome selection of burgers on the menu or you can customize and make your own creation. I got a bacon blue cheese burger - really good. Would have been better if the patty wasn't quite so well done, but even with that I loved it. I got regular fries - they were OK, nothing to write home about. My husband got the onion rings and they were nice - whole thick onion slices. Weird, though, because they are listed (and priced) as an appetizer instead of a side and they came out before the rest of the meal. My husband said he didn't mind them coming out early since they were too hot to eat at first, anyway. They have sweet potato fries as well, which I'll probably try next time we go. They also have amazing shake and sundae selections - or again you can customize. Definitely an indulgence. We all left feeling very full and a little guilty. ;) We will definitely be back!

Tough to rip a place the day after it opened, so I will try to be kind. After receiving phone calls and emails from friends about this new place opening in Media (in the location of the former Bill Battey's and some butcher shop that lasted 3 months) I figured I would stop in. Before I went I reviewed the menu. It looked solid. The variety of burgers and fries looked promising. However, my first warning was a phone call from another foodie/friend advising that he tried to go for lunch and the owner told him that unless he had 1+ hours he should come back later "because their system wasn't right". Who the hell said that? Anyway, their system still wasn't right that evening. I walked in and waited in line without acknowledgment for 20 mins or so until the lady in front of me was asked how many in her party. When she responded "10" I walked. While I was there I observed a 15 year old kid behind the counter get into an argument with a 10-12 year old kid sitting at the counter over cheese fries that took 30 mins. I observed the owner (with a golf ball sized gout ridden elbow) apologize to the a family of three that their burgers "were just coming off the grill" (3 times). All in all, because of the menu I will return and update. However, if first impressions are telling I would be shocked if this place made it to 2012.

As stated in the other reviews, this place has just opened, so I will go easy. I walked in on a Friday afternoon for milkshakes for my daughter and I, THINKING they would have kids size milkshakes, considering half the place is dedicated to kids and kids parties. Well, I was wrong. They only have one size. Yes, I know I can bring the extra milkshake home, but a kids size would be a good idea. The place was completely empty, so the service was quick and friendly. The whole staff was at the counter talking. The young man behind the counter who was making the milkshakes was very nice and hard working. As I was leaving a woman and a family of four came in for ice cream to go. All of a sudden the workers disappeared and the young man behind the counter was all alone and you could see he was overwhelmed. Where's the owner? A second counter person. Someone to help. I've been a "Median" for nearly 40 years and I would love it if this place survived, but that is a tough call. It opened at the wrong time; right before the summer when everyone goes on vacation, hopefully they can survive the summer until it picks up in the fall. Hopefully. Secondly, it's off the beaten path of State Street which is not good, but with the right advertising, other than Facebook, and good word of mouth it will do fine. It is a good place for a family to go, but I think the novelty will wear out soon. This said, I will definitely give it another try. The milkshakes were really good. They just need to work out the little things. Good Luck

Specialty milkshakes and good eats that would rival late night food network cravings! Warm service and unique items like banana bread milkshakes, smokin' hot burgers and tater tots. An old school vibe with new foodie twist. Go there NOW! If you watch Man vs Food or Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives you should check this place out, they have burgers with scrapple on them!!

There was only one other table full when we got there. The best thing about our meals was the ketchup. The soda was flat, the fries had no taste, and the only thing i could taste of my burger was the char from it being way overdone. My boyfriend had the baltimore burger and he said the same thing. We will not be going back. Not to mention 2 sodas cost more than a pitcher. And fries were $2 extra, not included in any meal!

Just stopped in today for some cones with my kiddo. It was a warm day and ice cream sounded like a great idea. The shop looks great. The guys at the counter were really nice and the owners happened to be there. We own a small business ourselves and know how hard it is to start up a new place. Bassetts is great ice cream (my son had Gadzooks! since he listens to P&S with me all the time) and the service was personable. We didn't know they had food, so we'll have to go back and try out dinner or lunch some time. They told us they also have a private party room, so that's good to know as a Mom of 2 boys! I think the other reviews were a little harsh and nitpicky. Why bother writing a review on the second day of opening?! That isn't even helpful! Some people just like to complain. And really, don't open an ice cream shop in the summer because people go on vacation?! Really? Finally, great place, great people, who are just trying to make a nice place for families to go in Media, and yummy ice cream! Can't wait to go back with friends!

Phenomenal for families with young kids! The menu is comfort food, well-prepared. The ice cream was okay. But the biggest draw for my family is the room in the back with kid-sized chairs and tables, a blackboard, and televisions with children's programming. Add in the fact that it's only two blocks from Media's Tot Lot playground, and we have enjoyed a few playdates here!

Fun, family friendly ice cream parlor shop. We enjoyed some chili dogs and burgers. They have sweet potato fries with honey butter that is really great, perfectly crispy but that topping could be a dessert of itself. Great shakes and fun soda combinations. The great point about this place is the family room where they are kids tables, chalkboards and a tv playing a kids movie. Its a great place to take young kids/toddlers for a family dinner.

I'm not too proud to say that I'm a Friendly's girl... but the chain has let me down often in my adulthood, with slow service and overambitious menu expansions. The Front Street Fountain is like I remember Friendly's being when I was a kid in New England - clean, comfortable, friendly and kid-friendly, and with an excellent range of delicious fried treats and ice cream. We were in last night with friends and their kids, and we had an excellent experience. I had the Weenie Panini - a brilliant marriage of the Grilled Cheese and the all-beef natural-casing Frankfurter - my girlfriend had a generous bowl of green salad topped with a scoop of tuna salad. We shared an order of sweet potato fries and went on an appetizer sampler (potato skins, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and fried mac&cheese wedges. The onion rings and mozz sticks were excellent; the cheese sauce on the potato skins was pedestrian but the bacon bits were real; the mac&cheese wedges will appeal to you based on your affection for the Kraft variety of m&c.) Finally, for dessert, my girlfriend and I split an unexpectedly huge two-scoop sundae (Moose Tracks with crumbled peanut butter cups, hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry.) For added fun, they were setting up for karaoke while we ate. Sometime I might just give in to the temptation to have a sundae and sing the entire score of _Evita._

I tried Front Street Fountain for the first time last week. I went with my wife and daughter, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Well today was my birthday dinner and since it was my choice, I decided to go back since I liked it so much the first time. I had a milkshake and a "Defibrillator" (hot dog with bacon and melted cheese). My daughter had the "Little Ed" (Angus burger with fried egg, cheese and bacon). Everything was prepared perfectly and the ingredients were all top quality. My 13 YO daughter commented that it was the best burger she'd ever tasted. I agree, because I reaped the rewards when she couldn't finish it. I know this is just a burger and fountain joint, but I was very impressed with how well they prepared EVERYTHING . Both times the French Fries were amazing, best I've ever had. The bacon was cooked to order, the Hot dogs were high quality and grilled just right and the milkshakes were outstanding. My wife enjoyed her grilled veggie wrap. all the veggies were freshly grilled without too much oil. She said it was too much to eat though. ( I didn't finish that though) We topped our meal off with a scoop of Bassett's ice cream....yummy. The prices were very reasonable if not a bargain. We paid with a $100 bill which caused a little confusion, but no problems. The decor is simple, light, spacious and clean. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive. It was unanimous with our family that we found a new favorite spot and will definitely be back soon. It's certainly worth the one block stroll back from State Street, but both times we went there was plenty of on-street parking near the restaurant. Oh and they have a back room for little kids with a giant blackboard wall and colored chalk. TIP: there's no need to feed the parking meters in Media after 6:00pm or on weekends.

Good food, good prices.... what else is there to say? Don't expect Le Bec Fin but, if you're in the mood for a milkshake and a good hot dog (or hamburger), Front Street Fountain's the place to go to. I also really love their french fries and onion rings (I'm not typically really fond of fried foods). I've been there 3 times and plan to go again.

Media is my town, so when I found out a new family style restaurant was opening up in the old Batteys, I was earner to give it a try when it opened. Well, it is now open, so hit it. Place was inviting enough, walked right in, not to busy, round 6pm on a weekday. First impressions: clean, and a young looking waitstaff. Looked at the menu, and figured it would be $12-15 a head with 20%tip. For that, I expected a Red Robin type experience, it large servings and food with character. Well, this is where things started to go down. Ordered there Taco burger for $7.00, and for an extra $2 you can ad fries that normally run a "not so cheap" $3.50. My little girl had the same. Now, when they say that you ad fries for $2 to an order and get fries, you are expecting the $3.50 portion for the $2, right? That's what makes it a deal. Well, our plates come out in quick fashion, and I'm like looking at my fries and the people who ordered a order of the fries separately. The fries on my plate were a little less than half their order. So, my deal of $2.00 fries wasn't so much a deal. As for the burger, great beef patty. Fresh lettuce, tomato, onions set on the side. The bun, not my style. Some sort of sweet bread style, not my desired kaiser roll type. For $7.00 I was expecting more. I always hate seeing my plate come and my first reaction is "is that it?" I mean when I go French, I expect to go to McDs afterward to fill up, but for $10 burger and fries, I expect to get full. Anyhow, young inexperienced waitress never came back till it was bill time. Paid and got up to leave. Made it out without anyone working there saying a goodbye or thank you. I've owned a restaurant. You never let a patron leave without saying thanks or bye. You wont see them again unless they happen to work real close by. So, it was a once and done. Wonder what will open up in it's place next year? Decor- 8 Service- 6 (+2 since their so new) Food- 10 if I was looking to overpay for a Bubba Burger I could make at home Experience expected- 5 Final: has potential, and if they understand their faults quick, they can make it. But needs improvements in all facets. I'd like them to make it, just hope they read YELP for free advice.

We went Saturday evening for an ice cream treat after getting dinner in Media. I was very excited that another ice cream place opened - this one open until 10 on the weekends. We just walked in as a few others did to get ice cream but it gave us time to decide what we wanted. The guys behind the counter were working hard to get everyone their orders. The ice cream was delicious. The inside was very clean and open and we were happy there were a few tables outside to sit and enjoy the nice weather. I wish they'd put a sign on the corner so people could see it from State Street. I only knew about it from walking past going to the library next door. We ran into others on State Street that were looking for it but didn't know where it was. Hopefully it can make it as we really enjoyed ourselves.

Today was my 3rd visit to Front St. The staff is extremely friendly but very slow. It just seems a bit unorganized. A friend of one of the servers came in and asked where her station was. Her reply was they didn't have them and were just taking whatever tables. Needless to say our server ended up stuck in the kiddie room most of the time so we really didn't see her. My 4 year old is always really well behaved when we go out to eat but she was losing her patience and starting to do log rolls across the floor. She finally came back and took our ice cream order but that took so long to get to us I ended up going to get a plastic spoon so my daughter could eat in the car. I was trying to wait patiently for our bill but she never came back so I went and found her so I could pay. Another big let down was my food. I ordered the grilled veggie wrap which the menu said was made with grilled portabella's and that was the reason I chose it. When it came out it was made with regular canned mushrooms. I didn't make a big deal out of it but when I was paying my server I let her know that they need to let people know if they are out of them because that is the "meat" of the sandwich. Canned mushrooms are not a good replacement for grilled portabella's. I almost went to Seven Stones for lunch and am regretting my decision. It would have cost less, the food would have been better, and our quick lunch would not have taken 1.5 hours. I don't think it's acceptable for 2 people to order sandwiches and be stuck there that long. I feel bad because they are nice people but I think this was my last visit to Front St. Fountain. The first time we went service was slow but I chalked it up to them just opening, 2nd visit was a little worse, 3rd visit was my last.

Sadly, this place is now closed. It used to be my daughter's favorite place to eat. We will miss the good burgers, tasty sundaes, and the cute little train at the counter.

Came in for dinner and everything was excellent. We ordered cinnamon sugar sweet potato fries, a Dano burger and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything came piping hot to the table, and everything was delicious. We had to go inside and ask for silverware, but otherwise no complaints! We'll be bringing our friends when they come to visit to test out their 15 different types of grilled cheese sandwiches!

I don't always order dessert, but when I do it might as well be a Peanut Butter Over Load Sundae from Front Street Fountain! It was Friday night around the dinner hour and this place was buzzing with children. The two back rooms feature oversized chalk boards that were definitely a highlight for the young ones. You can also rest assured that you will not miss your favorite programming as they have a TV locked on Nick Jr in this area as well. The food was fair. Nothing over the top and nothing that disappointed. The menu features a bunch of different styles of: French fries, salads, burgers, hot dogs and of course ice cream sundaes and milk shakes. What I really liked about FSF was the pleasant nature of the staff. Every member of the staff greeted my family. They also go above and beyond and try their best to entertain. On this particular night they were doing sports trivia. This was in my wheel house and I walked away with a gift card as my prize! After a wrap, cheeseburger, mac & cheese, hot dog, two kids sundaes and a sundae named the Peanut Butter Over Load we left $40 + gratuity lighter. Not bad for a family of four. A nice meal was had and the kids were occupied with plenty of things to keep their attention. Miscellaneous observations: 1. The back rooms were a little dark. Some better lighting would better compliment the cheery nature of the staff. 2. Bassett's Ice Cream, a Philadelphia favorite is featured here. 3. The roll the burger was served on was nice and fresh. This helped escalate the appeal of an ordinary burger. 4. The front room featured booths floor to ceiling windows and this area of the restaurant had ESPN on. 5. If you are not a fan of kids this is probably not the place for you. Kids are everywhere. But who isn't a fan of kids? 6. The aforementioned Peanut Butter Over Load sundae was served by a young man wearing white gloves. How cool is that? Maybe he knew this was going to be delivered to the reigning FSF sports trivia champ and felt the need to dial up the presentation a notch or two.

We have since returned many times - including their wonderful"family friendly" new year's eve celebrations from 5 - 7 PM - complete with Karaoke for the kids and anice cream toppings bar. They also have trivia nights on Friday's. The now 9 y.o. loves the pulled pork sandwich and we like the burgers and grilled cheese. Wonderful home-made whipped cream is a treat, indeed. Great fun for families with kids from infants through about age 12.

Cute place for kids with a room with a chalk board and tv's. A little expensive for what it is, but the food is decent and the kids like it. They are closed on Sundays.

Cute place, especially with a kid in tow. Try to get seat in the main area with the windows, as the side "kid-friendly" room looks dark and the TVs kind of kill the atmosphere back there. Took the server's recommendation and ordered The Burg (short for Pittsburg.. yes, I asked :). It was an interesting burger with coleslaw and fries. The flavor was just ok, the interesting part was the texture: the crunch of slaw and crispiness of the fries. I will definitely pick this place to take the kids so we can stay local, as opposed to hitting up a Red Robin-type joint many miles away. Will try the ice cream next time.

I must say I have had this place bookmarked because they serve Basset's Ice Cram and believe me that will be the reason for my next stop at this location. Today i was about a quick meal and where they ever quick. I ordered a plain hamburger with a side of TATER TOTS! I love tater tots and not many establishments have them. They had many sandwiches to chose from but like i said I was in a hurry and needed something quick. This little gem is hidden away from State Street but not too far off the path. It's actually closer to the Court House. I can't wait to go after dinner in media for dessert on a hot summer night. I am so glad I can get Basset's Ice Cream and not have to go all the way down to the Reading Terminal Market. Thanks Yelp for the find!

Great for eating out with kids. Dessert is the main attraction. Bassetts ice cream and REAL whipped cream make it well worth a trip.

Wanted a burger and didn't want to travel too far. They have had decent ones in our past visits but this one no so much. They didn't ask us how we wanted them cooked and they tasted like frozen Bubba Burgers. The fries are always good here and that was no different today. The draw for most here is the ice cream and the separate room for families with noisy kids. High calorie place, mind-deadening TV -turned down sound and no captions. Not tempted to return.

    (3)
  • Keith G.

Only ever been here to grab a quick cone of Bassetts ice cream for the kids but the prices are always fair, the service is quick and friendly and the location is off state a bit so parking is usually easier on weekends. Plus the ice cream is top notch.

This 5 star rating is for the chocolate milkshake I had here today. It had some chocolate POW to it. It was thick, but not too thick. The quantity was generous. And it took me by surprise because this was a very tasty chocolate milkshake. The best I've had in a year and a half. This could have been the best chocolate milkshake in metropolitan Philadelphia. Yummy! Mmm... I kept saying "Wow..." in between slurps. Yep, it was that good. Now I know where to go when I want a chocolate milkshake made the right way!

Great food, great atmosphere. There's a giant chalk board which kept my kid occupied while I ate. Trains, movies playing, etc. Very friendly staff.

This place is for families. It's kid friendly. They have tv's with cartoons and a huge chalkboard for kids to write on in the kid area. The parking lot is small and only one way in and out. As for the food, I got a burger and fries, I thought they were good. My sister got a turkey grilled cheese and said there was hardly any cheese. We each got a sundae and loved them. Now my sister asked for utensils and never got any. When she asked again to cut the fried Oreos she finally got them and that was during dessert. Food came out fast. This place is more for kids to love not their parents. If you want a quick ice cream or Sundae they do having a fountain area with seats that you can just sit at and enjoy your treats. Bring your kids , they will love it. Oh Saturdays is Karaoke night at 7pm and seeing adorable kids singing "Twinkle, Twinkle" also made it worth it lol

I checked this place out because the reviews here and because I saw a story on NBC 10 about it. I'm not sure what all the hubbub is about. I stopped in around 2PM for lunch today. First let me say the directions here were about a block off; google navigation took me to the courthouse. This place has a parking lot in the back but if you have a big car be careful because it's sort of cramped. I went in and sat at the counter; there were no other customers. The guy behind the counter was new, when I asked what was good he said he's never even eaten there before. I ordered a cheeseburger and an orange creamsicle milkshake. The milkshake took like 10 minutes to make and still had lumps of ice cream in it. I had to let it melt a little before delving into it. The burger, while pretty, didn't really taste like much. Plus the bun was too hard and didn't add anything to the overall burger. The waitress who brought my food out, just stood behind the counter with a guy who took my order and pretty much stared at me until I started talking to them. They were friendly and polite but seemed bored. All-in-all I don't really see myself coming here again.

Front Street Fountain (hereby FSF) has quickly become my three year old son's favorite restaurant - and who am I to argue with that! The menu is a bit ambitious, running the gambit from burgers and dogs, many varieties of french fry baskets, to various sandwiches and wraps. There's a lot of variety and the quality is what you would expect for the price; nothing spectacular, but chances are you're here with the family and aren't looking for a gourmet experience. The decor is great for kids (my son can stay entertained watching the train until the food comes - which is usually very quick) and the 'bar' area is especially nice to sit at, especially if you're getting ice cream. And about that ice cream... now that's where FSF really shines! The sundaes are large, the hot fudge is rich, and the whipped cream is heavy and wonderful. Seriously, I'm not sure why, but I really love their whipped cream. I fear I may not come by FSF too much in the winter, but I'm already looking forward to week night sundaes with my son come summertime!

Been to this place twice for lunch while working. The food is EXCELLENT. I ordered a chicken ceasar salad one time (the chicken was hot and fresh and the dressing was tasty) and the other time, fries and a hot dog. Both of those were also excellent, although the fries came in a brown paper bag with no towel inside, which I found a little strange. Overall, the menu is extensive and the food delish. I recommend this place if you're ever in Media.

Have not tried the food yet but the Sundaes are fantastic. The thing that sold me is that the Whip Cream is real! Good sized portions and the guys behind the counter are very nice. Very happy we finally have a great ice cream place to walk to.

AHH!! This place is awesome! We showed up late one evening as they were just closing the kitchen. They told us No problem! Order what you want! Amazing service, Amazing patrons. The veggie burger was actually deliclous! I love when restaurants know their way around a veggie burger! I am coming back tonight for ice cream!

A great place to go with kids for a burger and a sundae. There is a room dedicated to kid's with two tv's, a giant chalk board and little tables. We have been there twice and had good food, fantastic service and a good time. The best part: you can choose between french fries, tater tots and sweet potato fries. Second best part: Bassett's ice cream.

I was waiting for this place to open, a gourmet foodie ice cream place right in the middle of Media?! I could hardly wait, and wait I did, but unfortunately, it just another 'mom and pop' kiddie shop in Media. Atmosphere - The website looked promising? A throwback ice cream parlor with some old diner favorites (burgers, hot dogs, etc.) This fit the bill, inside is clean and shiny, counter to sit at is a great walk in feature. Tables in the back allow for seating indoors, as well as some outdoors. No kitschy outfits for the servers or fountain staff, just t-shirts and shorts, appropriate for a hot summer night. Waitstaff - This was just a trip to try their ice cream, so did not dine in for a meal. Fountain guy said he knew what I was talking about, but alas, the 'blizzard' type ice cream treat I ordered (a mix of ice cream and toppings), came out more like a milkshake with everything at the bottom, not what I expected (or wanted) at all. Food - Again, this review is only for the ice cream, but really? Bassett's Ice Cream is on the menu here, and I could get most of the flavors at Wawa or Bassett's retailers. I tried to get a Gadzooks and Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard, but again, came out soupy and milky, with all the mixins at the bottom. Compared to other places in the region, there are some much better choices. Intangibles - Place is closed on Sundays and Holidays. Plan on hitting a public lot if you do want to check it out, I spent about ten minutes driving around trying to find a parking spot, as I don't live in the immediate area. No real signage out front to advertise and being off of State Street (main artery through Media), it's hard to pick this place out. Overall - Families and Kids can chalk this up to their kind of place, nothing super pricy, nothing really fancy, and nothing that I would overly recommend to those looking to make a drive and try something special on a hot summer night.

I went there for ice cream with my bf the other night and had a nice time, ice cream was really good and the staff was really friendly, young yes, but there was an adult there at the counter who was pleasant and engaging, I asked her about the opening day and she mentioned that their opening day was bumpy because of an unexpected problem, but it was resolved. We sat at the counter, my waitress knew all about the ice cream, which was helpful. I think it this place is charming and will likely try more on their menu. I hope it stays...
