Apollo always has been and always will be the best pizza in Media. Greasy Greek-style deliciousness. The cheesesteaks, fries, and salads are all really good too.

It's greasy and salty and GOOD! We always got our pepperoni pizza from here and it always hit the spot. The people who work here were nice too. I think that's one of the main reasons we kept going back.

so this is my favorite pizza. seriously...my favorite pizza EVER. why only 4 stars? well, sometimes the people who work there are so insanely unpleasant that it almost makes me want to order from another place...but like i said....the pizza is my favorite. plus, it hasn't given me food poisoning TWICE like little anthony's has....so i guess 4 stars it is. just...a smile please?

the food is just whatever, a 2 star AT THE MOST. i've ordered different things and their ingredients don't seem to be top quality. what makes it a 1 star is their crappy staff. i went in once to ask them a question about the on-street parking in front of the place and the one guy (out of two who weren't doing ANYTHING) deliberately told me i could park in a space where i would actually be towed. i had no idea he was lying but as i was walking out the door i could hear another staff member comment about how mean that was and them laughing together about it. if you want some food, there are TONS of other delicious places within a 4 block radius of this crap hole. spend your money where the staff at least have manners or even want to make the customer happy.

I've heard it from many others, "oh, but the pizza is good," as if to prepare me delicately for the harsh "cold shoulder" attitude that I would be forced to deal with as if guaranteed upon my arrival to pick up my pies. Well, I had been warned. Like I am bothering the guy for coming to pick up my pizza. Like he couldn't see me standing there will he chats with his girl about what to make for dinner. Pizza is not that good.

So I was sitting at John's Bar around the corner right after I moved to Media and I asked the bar where the place to get pizza in Media was and they said Apollo's. I tried it and agree! I have had the cheese pizza, buffalo chicken pizza and barbecue chicken pizza and they have all been great! My one complaint is that the chicken pizzas are considered gourmet and the upcharge on them is a little more than I would normally expect. Other than that I think it's some pretty great pizza.

I'm a fan of the Greek pizza here. We have been eating it forever. Plain or pepperoni pizza best. Crispy crust, tasty cheese. Can be greasy because they use real cheese. They have been doing it the same way for years - always consistently good. When we want Greek style pizza, this is where we go (ever since the original Morton Pizza closed). Pick up only. The few meter spaces out front are always taken, park on corner and run in.

Their Hawaiian pizza and tuna sandwich is so good, I would definitely recommend anyone to come here they won't be disappointed..unless you're really picky.

These amateurs can't compete with Wawa hoagies, let alone a real hoagie shop.. Two thumbs down as far as quality. Also, thanks for delivering 8 hoagies unlabeled and 3 of them turned out to be the wrong order anyway after we finally finished playing the touch every hoagie to find out if it's yours game.

Love their Hawaiian and cheese steak pizzas. Their Mega fries with cheese whiz, mozzarella cheese, and bacon are also really good. I've ordered pizza with pepperoni, onions, and mushrooms, and they really load the toppings on there. Parking is difficult.

It used to be the place to go. I just ordered 2 pizzas that were soggy. I was the only one in the store and I can see why. It is really a shame, I used to love these pizzas.

Been going to apollo pizza all my life was always great today got horrible pizza wasn't cooked all the way but was burnt on outside. Cheese steaks were nasty it's a shame best place in media destroyed.

I grew up with parents who would ONLY get Apollo pizza. To give you an idea, my mother actually used to diet all week so she could have Apollo pizza both Friday night, and then again cold for lunch on Sat. The pizza is very good, though greasy. It is definitely a signature pizza that I have yet to experience anywhere else, and it is always high quality and filling for sure. It is a very consistent product, and I grew up on it for years. The cheesesteaks became more my thing as I got older. Those can be hit or miss for some reason. When they're good, they are some of the best cheesesteaks in the area in my opinion (better than downtown), but when they're having an off day the cheesesteaks aren't so hot. Fries are hit or miss too. Apollo changed owners years back, around the time I met my husband, and he was not super impressed with the pizza. I think quality consistency changed and it's not as it was, but all in all, I still recommend Apollo as a solid choice if Greek style pizza is your thing and grease is not an issue for you.

Apollo used to be my answer whenever we were trying to decide on take-out or pizza. Sadly, they've really fallen down over the last year, and much of it seems to be the result of staffing or lack of supervision. Let's start with telephone etiquette. If you call an hour before the posted closing time, there's little chance they will actually answer the phone. This is a problem, especially when you are calling from State St. on your cell phone and can look in and see employees lingering around, blatantly ignoring the ringing phone. If you call during the day on the weekend, there is one girl in particular who chews gum loudly in your ear and seems to know nothing about the menu. She doesn't hold the phone away from her mouth at all when she yells back questions to other staffers. It is beyond rude. But mostly, it is the food. The pizza used to be great, but now it is too greasy and undercooked most of the time. Picking up a slice of pie should not result in you holding the crust and the rest of the slice hanging straight down. They skimp on the meat content (and now quality) of the cheesesteaks. Their chicken cheesesteak is the worst. If you get a warm wrap, they put it in a plastic container with your chips and guess what the steam does to the chips? The burgers are terrible. I ordered a BLT once and the bacon was very undercooked - how do you not notice that when assembling a sandwich with three ingredients? Lastly, a pet peeve. They put on their menu "we use real whiz." They don't. Real whiz will get solid pretty quickly as it cools down, it has a cheddar bite to it, and it is easily identifiable to the real whiz lover. You can always tell imitation by the fact it has little taste and the texture is completely smooth. It's one thing to use the imitation and quite another to advertise the use of real whiz and then use imitation.

A-Okay pizza in the heart of Media. Just a counter inside so you cant check out what the food looks like or see if anything else sparks your interest when you're picking up your stuff. Good selection of toppings and fast service, even delivery. Kind of greasy but it seems like people here ( Philadelphia area) like that. Thin crispy/crunchy crust. Tough to find parking so tag-team it and have one person sit in the car at the curb and one team member hop out and collect the goods.

    (3)
  • MaryKate M.

The pizza tastes a lot like Pat's, and is very greasy and a little crunchy and pasty. I really think it's a matter of personal opinion or I'd have reviewed them worse. Also, they seemed nice enough on the phone and the delivery time was normal.

    (3)
  • Sean T.

The food is decent pending your tastes but the customer service is the worst. I ordered a stromboli for delivery. After about an hour of waiting patiently I called and asked when I should expect them and was told the driver just left. That's not so much of a problem I get that happens from time to time, but when I got my food it was the wrong order so I called back and explained and was told they would send a new one out which also took over an hour. I was told I could get something on the house next time I ordered. I tried to get my bill cancelled but that didn't happen and they said they'd save my number for when I called next time to give me something to compensate but that was a lie. Just bad business practice overall and ever since that incident we made Media Pizza our local pizza place until we moved.

  • Syynic C.

Really good stuffed shells, salad, pizza and cheese steaks. That's what we've ordered so far and each time have been really happy. The delivery people are great, the phone people are too and the sauce tastes homemade! Reason for four stars-- it can be a lengthy wait. Don't wait till you're hungry to order delivery because it will be an hour before you see food.

Had a very good cheesesteak hoagie tonight. Much lighter and less greasy than most such sandwiches.

I've been ordering from Apollo since middle school, 30 years now. The magic is in the small pepperoni pizza. Hands down the best I've ever had time after time. I recently moved out of Media but routinely take a ride back for it. The sauce, crust, cheese and good quality pepperoni make for an amazing pizza. The crust is to die for!!!

If you need heart clogging this is a good place to start. Love their chicken cheese steak, very meaty. Onion rings are delicious. Pizza is greasy greek style and it is good. If you order their pizza I would order a medium or personal. The pizza seems to come out better tasting when it is cooked more due to its smaller size. Additionally, I love getting fresh onions and green peppers on their pie. Service levels vary depending who assists you.

  • Steve L.

Much too greasy and the crust was not thin as others have said. In general, it was pretty tasteless. I'm sticking to Drexel Hill Pizza.

While I prefer the Pinnochio pizza in Media, Apollo Pizza has been a long staple of mine when I require something different. They have Sicilian style pizza which I think is just phenomenal. Perfect crust, dough, and the gravy is just gooooooood. However, I feel their most under appreciated item is their wings. This is totally my go to place for good wings on the go for a sports event, or something quick to eat.

    (4)
  • Media S.

Apollo's Pizza has always been my favorite in Media. It is usually them or Pinocchios. If we're in a hurry I choose Pinocchios since Apollo's can take some time. Otherwise, Apollo's is the place. Great flavors and always hot. Nice menu so you can get almost anything you want. Parking can be a nuisance but still love this place and have for many years.

    (4)
  • Karen F.

My daughter enjoys the "square pizza" slices here (She refers to Sicilian as "square pizza") but even she at the astute age of 8 commented, "It's good - but not as good as Brooklyn". Sums it up perfectly. Smart kid. Like her Momma.

They changed hands. I recently discovered the old Apollo's of Media is now one in the same as the one in Havertown. Will not be eating here again. I made a special trip to Media from Havertown thinking I was going to the same old Apollo's I loved while growing up in Media but this was not the case. I used to love their salads so was going there for one of them. I was so looking forward to the creamy Italian dressing they used to have. Well what a disappointment. The lunch meats are different too, not as fresh as they used to be. Yuck! Why would they not just keep the same suppliers after buying the place from the old owners so they could make the same great food? I would've given it one star but the girl at the counter was so nice I wanted to give her a star.

My mom and I went to Apollo for a quick bite last Saturday. We wanted to split a tomato pie. We asked to split a small (10 inches) and the girl behind the counter asked "what's that?" I spoke louder since I assumed she simply didn't hear me. She asked again what it was. I told her it was a pizza without the cheese. She was dumbfounded and says "oh, how do we make that?"...She WORKS at a pizza place....really!? Being vegan, (and now afraid to challenge her mentally) I first told her what the term vegan means and said that "I am vegan." I then asked if the sauce was vegan. I said I assumed the bread was. She said "well, we put butter in the bread." I asked her to make sure because most pizza crust is a simple mix of flour and water. She says "well, it's baked, not fried so they have to put butter in." WHAT. I kid you not...I was like "Ummmm, ok, can you ask someone who knows the answer to this-and while you're at it, please ask if the sauce is vegan ?" She came back and said the pizza dough was only flour and water. The sauce is in fact vegan. WHERE did they find this girl!? She also had the nerve to give us attitude when my mom and I gave each other wide eyed looks. This girl was beyond the point if idiocy.

I love Greek style pizza. That is, if it is made just right. This place has been around since 1969. You have to think that they must know what they are doing. Maybe they do most nights. I may have picked the time to go yesterday when they were a bit off. Don't get me wrong. The pizza I got was OK. But for Greek style pizza to me, it lacked a few things. Thickness was one thing it lacked. You see, if there's one thing I know about Greek style pizza is that if something isn't quite right about the dough in the pan, it doesn't rise properly. I happened to get one of those non-rising pizzas on this trip. It affects the experience if it is not risen properly. Also, not enough taste of the sauce to complement the cheese and toppings. I like a decent amount of sauce, but not too much. I got something less than a decent amount. I mean, it was fine. I polished off a small pizza. But the pizza they served me won't make me want to go out of my way to come back here.

So here's the thing. I grew up in Media, thus I grew up with Apollo. I so fondly remember their mushroom cheesesteaks, oozing with cheese and heavy on the 'shrooms, and the pepperoni strombolis which my dad would pile high with whatever other deli meat and cheese we had in the fridge. They get stars for the wonderful memories alone. Sure, the service *can* be gruff at times, but I honestly expect it when I come back into town. It seems to depend completely on who's working; the younger guys seem to have more patience, and they remember repeat customers. Now, I've lived in Chicago for eight years. This city knows pizza the way Philly knows cheesesteaks. Apollo's pizza is nothing compared to Chicago's offerings...I'm so sorry to say it, but it's true. So I'm a bit more picky about my pies now, but it would be unfair to knock off points for such comparisons. I think Apollo's pizza is superior to other neighborhood joints, and that's the important part. And whenever I'm back home, an Apollo cheesesteak is one of the first foods to hit my lips. They continue to do some things very right!

Apollo Pizza has EXCELLENT food! The cheese used is superior and generous. Great service and abundant choices--our family had been patronizing this home town legend for over 30 years!

There are a lot of pizza wastelands in this big bold country of ours, and Media is one of them. There's edible pizza in this area, and oh-if-I-have-to pizza in this area, and then god-I-don't-want-to-cook pizza. And then there's sucks-but-I'm-tired-of-the-other-suck pizza. And under-no-circumstances pizza. I think Apollo is in the sucks-but-I'm-tired category. Every once in a while if we're going to get pizza, we're sick of the other mediocre to poor pizza around here, we'll ask ourselves if maybe Apollo wasn't really that bad and try again. And yeah, it'll be a greasy, generic mess. All the folks around here who say oh, it's Greek-style, that's the way it's supposed to be, haven't had decent Greek-style pizza, apparently.

  • Neil H.

Here's the deal: you don't go to Apollo Pizza for the pizza -- you go for the cheesesteaks. I moved away from Media after high school, but whenever I return home an Apollo cheesesteak (with fried onions) is the first thing that goes into my mouth. In fact, it's the only phone number I remember from the area. Update: I've had a couple of slices of Apollo pizza recently (home for the holidays) and I was actually impressed. It has a lot of cheese (thus a higher level of grease) and the sauce (though applied sparingly) is sweet, but good. The crust is on the thin side. I'd recommend at least trying it -- but I still think they have the best cheesesteaks in the area. For reals.

Pizza is such a personal preference. I happen to love Apollos pizza and find the quality to be consistent. I had the bad luck of buying an italian hoagie and a cheesteak there last monday night. Both were lousy. No tomato, no seasoning, no taste. I'll try them again for pizza but if I GET ONE MORE LOUSY ATTITUDE FROM THEM WHEN I CALL IN MY ORDER, I'M THROUGH! WAKE UP APOLLO...THIS IS THE TYPE OF THING THAT CLOSES DOWN A SMALL BUSINESS!

    (3)
  • Robert W.

This is probably still the best pizza I've had in my life(I don't live in the area any more but when I'm visiting it's not uncommon for me to place an order for pick up before doing anything else!) Amazing, small place with a big taste. Defiantly get a small pizza, something about the larger pies looses the excellence of the crust(I can't explain it,) but I would go with multiple small pizzas as opposed to one big. They have a perfect amount of sauce and are kind people. Drop in anytime you want some of the best in the Philly area! Cheesesteaks are also solid, not the best, but completely solid

  • Jerry C.

If you want Greek style pizza Apollo is the stuff for you. If you remember Paul Revere or Drexel Hill Style you will love Apollo. Their pizza would make BP blush with the amount oil that slakes off a piece of pie, however that said you wouldn't be getting Greek style if you weren't expecting this. Miss them as there is nothing like it down here in Virginia, a virtual wasteland when it comes to pizza.

This is a great bet for pizza, steaks, and even salads. The only small complaint I have is that they aren't known for there happy welcoming staff, but the food is too good for me to care. Plus, it IS takeout primarily, so it's not a big problem.

    (4)
  • Blake F.

if greasy, sauce-less, not-so-large large pies is what you look for in pizza, this is your place. but for those of you, like me, who want a quality slice...head elsewhere. i recently ordered a [plain cheese] pie at work rather than getting from my usual place because i was busy and they delivered (i suppose that's a plus?)...but after eating my 2 tiny slices, i tossed the menu so i'd be sure to never make this mistake again.

another acquired pizza place, this is about as cheap and greasy as it comes. Still, I love it.

  • Ian L.

Next to La Forno, I do think that this is the best place for pizza in town. Everything is reasonably priced, and the pizza is fantastic! The parking for this place for pickup, however, is a bit dicey being in a crowded town.

  • jill p.

Tasty but very greasy pizza. Pretty good buffalo fingers. I prefer Pinnochio's for delivery and Peace of My Heart for carry out.

    (3)
  • Ashlee G.

Great pizza! I ordered half Hawaiian and half buffalo chicken (both specialty) and paid 20 bucks for great pizza! There are a few downsides- the guy I interacted with was probably the most negative thing about apollo, he was just so unfriendly. And by unfriendly I mean, it seemed as though he was trying to be cranky- strange. Also there's no seating so you either do delivery or take out but that only matters if you want to grab a bite there, in my case I was content with picking it up and taking it home. With that being said, I will def order from apollo again since the pizza was the best I've had from media, compared to the other options.

  • W.H. F.

Reviewing a pizza shop is like reviewing your mothers cooking, we all have our favorites and we think they are the best. That said... Apollo Pizza is pan pizza, cooked on a conveyor belt oven (no judgment here just the facts). As with most pan pizzas it tends to be a bit greasy, but very tasty. As with many Greek pizza places they offer Gyros, which they call "year-o's" in the American vernacular. These are not the "real" Gyros, done on a spit and shaved off per order but the frozen "steak-um" style. That said, they are not bad if you are in the mood for that type of thing. Sort of like a McDonalds hamburger compared to one you would make at home. There is a place for both.
