I was searching for a new place to eat for date night and stumbled upon this place. Never did I imagine I would have one of the best meals of my life (by the way, I am a very picky eater). The setting was clean and crisp - well lit, white table cloths, candles on table. The decorations on the wall made it appear as if one were in someone's home from the 1900's. I ordered the Mozzarella and Heirloom Tomato Ravioli. It was amazing. The pasta was cooked to perfection - delicate but still firm. The sauce made me scoop up every last drop despite the pasta being done. I had ordered a white wine to pair with the meal.

This is a fancy dining room that reminds me of New England. The food is way better than I imagined we would find in the middle of Pennsylvania. Our good luck was to have the most charming Erin be our server. She had a thorough knowledge of the menu and we chose her recommendations after engaging in pleasant conversation about it all. Everything was fantastic!

Nice place, very interesting rooms both "new" and "old", definitely worth a look if you are in the area. They need to improve the accessibility of their outside from the main building and need to improve their cigar selling/buying area and also need to add a credit card machine to their main check-in area, but besides that, nice work!

this place is AMAZING. we were married here a year ago and came back for our anniversary. the food is amazing, the staff is wonderful and my husband loves the beer selection. I recommend them equally for weddings and events or for a nice dinner.

The Sutter is a staple in Lititz. They rotate their menu for the seasons and there's always something delicious on it. They moved trivia inside off the patio and into the ballroom for the winter, which was great. We kept coming back. This is a great place to come have a cold drink on the patio on a hot day. The managers and staff are always friendly and work very hard to make sure their customers are happy.

I went here with my girlfriend and her dad for dinner on a Friday night. It sits in the heart of Lititz so if you do go here, plan to take some extra time to walk around and explore. Lots of shops in a quaint town; definitely a place worth checking out! The staff was polite and we were were quickly seated in a the dining room which had a nice classy hotel feeling to it. I ordered the bison burger, my girlfriend got the pear salad and her dad ordered the Salmon. The bison burger is one of my favorite things to order and it was absolutely delicious. The pear salad was huge, and although it could have used a higher pear to spinach ratio, was very good. When the salmon was cooked medium well and wasn't too dry. It had a good salty flavor to it. All meals were very filling and at a reasonable price. This is a classy restaurant in a prime location of Lititz. I wouldn't hesitate to walk back in here next time I'm back in town. Very good food!

Impeccable service. Jeff Merk and his team flawlessly executed my father's surprise retirement party. The food was phenomenal and the attention to detail was spot-on. As a prior Navy Supply Corps Officer, I know the effort required to pull off a top notch event. I 100% endorse the team at General Sutter Inn to plan your next event; I will surely return to Jeff for my needs in the future.

Delicious bison burger but the BEST warm crab dip ever. Served with celery pita homemade potato chips and carrots.

Impeccable service and dinner. Came to general Sutters for the fire and ice festival with no reservation and they gladly accommodated us. The scotch egg was superb. I dined on an entree of ravioli, and husband enjoyed the fish and chips double portion. The most enjoyable aspect is the atmosphere and the band.

This is usually good food. But never go here during the Lititz Arts Festival in July. Ruben was skimpy, no sauerkraut dry and the sweet potato french fries were cold. I can't even believe the waitress had the gall to serve that food to us. We might be back but not during the Lititz art fest. They obviously didn't plan and have enough staff to handle the crowd. Very disappointed after a 27 minute wait.

Stayed here for 2 weeks while training for work. Lots of good things to say including comfortable rooms, cool decor, convenient to have restaurants and bars in one place, and friendly staff. I would say that their housekeeping leaves something to be desired. They really just pull up the comforter and call it a day. I would have liked trash thrown away, fresh towels left, etc. Also, the kitchen on the top floor doesn't get stocked too often so all the baked good are stale. Definitely need some more attention to the food up there if you're going to stock anything at all.

Had a lovely girl's weekend in Lititz this past weekend. The General Sutter Inn served as our home from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. It was my first time visiting Lititz and staying in a real "Inn". It was a very special experience. I enjoyed the historical aspects and loved the adjoining Bulls Head Pub. I found the lobby to be very inviting with the fireplace and comfortable seating. There was limited parking out back, but had a well lit path that led to the front entrance. It was really awkward and difficult wheeling suitcases through the large Friday night Pub crowd that gathered on the sidewalk. If possible arrive early to check-in and make sure you don't over-pack there is no elevator and a lot of stairs. My mother, Aunt, and I stayed in two rooms on the Rock Lititz Penthouse floor. It was a really cool modern rock themed floor. It was very private and even had it's own key just to enter. There was a shared kitchen with complimentary drinks and bagels. My mother and I stayed in the Down Stage room (306) because of the separate day bed. My only complaint was the "day bed" (while fitting the decor) was like sleeping on a rock. My Aunt stayed in the Stage Left room (310), it was very cool and had windows with views of the town. As cool as the rock themed Penthouse was an explanation is needed. Why the rock theme in this historic Inn? I'm still left wondering. The General Sutter is the perfect place to stay if you're visiting Lititz. It provided a comfortable oasis right in the center of town. I loved how easy it was to walk to all the restaurants and shops. If I return to Lititz, which I hope to do, this is where I'd chose to stay. UPDATE: I was contacted by management of the General Sutter shortly after posting this review. Brant provided me with detailed information regarding why they went with the Rock Theme. Thank you Brant!!

Took a friend here on a mock date night. The ambiance was very quaint and somewhat romantic, but other than that I really don't have much to account. The service was very professional and well attentive, and the food was alright though a little pricy. There was supposed to be live music the night we went, but the band was running late so we listened to a boom box placed on a bar stool. I think if I ever decide to go again I will attend for lunch and sit outside. I can't really rant about the food being great, but if you want a nice romantic evening with someone this is a pretty nice venue to have it. Still, I think the patio is where it's at. I just haven't found myself there yet.

I stayed here just before Christmas in 2014 with my girlfriend. The management was very nice and very helpful with all of our questions. The rooms are very cute and it is all quite modern but also keeps the nice B&B theme. I proposed to my girlfriend that weekend and the staff was even better in making the weekend very memorable. We'll be back!

Nice looking place, nice outdoor sitting area, but do not visit during a busy, touristy, Saturday lunch. Took them 50 minutes to get meal to us. But once the food did come out, it was very good. I'd recommend this restaurant, just not during a busy weekend lunch time

Reasonable corkage fee, white linen service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious food. They would have gotten a 5 star rating but due to the construction and renovation of this historic building they couldn't have separate thermostats in the lobby and dining room. As a result, the dining room was chilly and there was nothing they could to to help. That aside, the place is lovely and I would go back there in a moment.

Came here with the blonde when we were traveling around the area. Excellent appetizers.. I had the Shepards pie which was awesome and as close to the best that I have had over in the UK.. The blonde had a pasta shrimp dish that was awesome.. Woud return, you bet we would.. I want to have the bangers and mash next time..

Absolutely lovely inn located centrally in one of the most quaint towns in Lancaster County. Close to everything. Prices are reasonable, rooms are uber comfortable, front desk employees are the best and the food in the restaurant is first rate. We will definitely stay here again.

What a treasure the patio is in beautiful downtown Lititz. We summer in Canada and always hurry home to dine on the patio at the Sutter. Delicious food at sensible prices and great service. How good can it get? I suppose only if it were humanly possible to find someone better than Betty as your wait help. No wonder Lititz has been named the best small town in the USA.

A great find in small town Americana. Cordially greeted at the door and shown to a lovely table. Erin our waitress couldn't have been more knowledgeable about the menu and her service was impeccable. I had the shrimp fettuccine which was loaded with fresh shrimp. My dining companion had crab cakes and they were the real thing. If the pan fried white sweet potatoes don't come as a side order them. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding. I could have eaten the whole pan. Many have commented on the bartender. They must have been in a different place. My four stars reflect that the sconces need cleaning. Barely can see through the glass.

Lititz is a charming town and the General Sutter Inn is equally charming. Set in the heart of town, this small historic hotel is worth a look even if you just have a drink in the pub and don't happen to stay in one of the hotel rooms. We stayed two nights in one of the "Rock Lititz Penthouse" suites. The decor was set up for the entertainment industry visitors the hotel hosts on occasion. Our bed was comfortable enough and the complaints we had were that the bright hallway lights stream into the room all night long through the glass transoms over the entry doors and the heating system was very noisy. Both factors made it difficult to sleep. Even so, we enjoyed the amenities of having a small kitchen and lounge down the hall and it was interesting reading through the guest book where the celebrities who stayed there before us had made notes and signed their names.

I traveled to Lititz for the first time with my girlfriend to visit her family in Lancaster. We live in Washinton, D.C. (unfortunately!) so we were excited to get out into the country for the weekend. More bed & breakfast than hotel, it was definitely a departure from any chain hotel I've stayed in. Ups: Exceptionally friendly staff Bulls Head Inn has a tremendous beer selection Great location in heart of Lititz Comfy king-sized beds Downs: Rooms probably haven't changed since 1945 No iron or ironing board in room (but are available at front desk) Not all rooms have showers- some only have tubs Hotel is unattended by staff after midnight Aside from the continental breakfast, which was sufficient, we didn't dine at the hotel. We did have a drink at the Bulls Head and the beer selection was impressive. This seemed like the spot for local twentysomethings to gather. Overall, a quaint place to stay and no big complaints. I wish the rooms were updated, but perhaps this lends to the charm? We will stay here again if we're in the area, but not the best place for a romantic getaway.

One of the best restaurants Ive been to in Lancaster County! My husband and I went here for our Valentine's Day dinner and we were so impressed with the quality and service. We both had one of the specials for the evening and could not find a thing to complain about -- the crispy salmon was delicious and the short rib was melt in your mouth wonderful. great desserts too. There is a great English Pub (Bulls Head Public House) with superb beer selection next door if you would like to make an evening of it!

The General Sutter Inn is a great restaurant in the heart of Lititz. Quiet dining, a great atmosphere, and attentive staff create the perfect location for a wonderful dinner. The menu has a variety of selections both in flavor and price. I have enjoyed every appetizer, lunch dish, and dinner item that I have chosen. The wine list is not terribly substantial, but the options mesh well with the menu. Don't expect a low cost meal. The prices are in line with the quality of service and dining however. Considering the double play you can experience with The General Sutter Inn and the Bulls Head Public House (Attached), it can be the making of a great night out. The patio in the warmer months is a great addition to both venues. If you have never been here, put it on your list!

Overall it was a disappointing experience. I had no idea that it was the fire and ice celebration in Lititz and traffic / parking was horrible, in fact the road in front of the restaurant was closed for this event. I'm not holding that against the restaurant but it did start things off in a slightly frustrating manner. When we walked into the establishment it wasn't really clear where exactly we were supposed to go. To the right was the restaurant area and a menu and the specials by the entrance but there was no hostess or anyone there to greet or seat up. I ended up in line by a desk where another couple was chatting it up with an employee. After what seemed like 10 minutes of waiting we finally got to the desk and were told that our table was ready. When seated we were told that our server could be a little while because they were busy but there were several empty tables so I'm not sure what the problem was. Our server finally got to us, my wife got a glass of wine and I asked for the beer list since they have several craft beers. The server left and got the list and my wifes wine and I selected a beer. The server returned with a different beer list and told me the one he had given me was an old one and the beer I selected was not on the list. I selected another beer and eventually I was able to enjoy a beverage with my wife. When we did order, we ordered the gumbo and the soup of the day to start, the appetizer special (which was an avocado with crab with panko crust) and a scotch egg, the steak and ale pie and shepherds pie. the soup and gumbo were tasty and warm bread accompanied the soup. Between the $12 avocado and the $3 scotch egg, the egg won. The avocado had next to no crab, it was only 1/2 an avocado and the flavor was drowned out by the balsamic reduction. The steak & ale and shepherds pie were both bland and both my wife and I both added tons of salt and pepper. We came here because my in-laws got us a gift card, I can't see returning. An $80 bill and the best thing we had was a $3 scotch egg.

We walked into the pub section but there was not enough seating for our party of 3 at one table. The bartender quickly offered to show us upstairs to the "formal sit-down" restaurant and up we went. The front desk attendant from the hotel greeted us warmly and ushered us into an old yet well-lit room that overlooked a lovely garden. The party at the next table received an order of fish and chips that was of Moby Dick proportions, and quickly prompted one in our party to try that dish. Another ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich while the third ordered a salad with grilled chicken. The food was prepared fresh and did take some time, but it was worth the wait. The fish plate, albeit a bit smaller, was none the less of epic proportion and cooked to perfection, accompanied with tartar sauce, ketchup and malt vinegar. He requested that the chips be crispy and they were crispy on the outside and soft inside....perfect. The sweet potato fries came out the same that accompanied the cutlet sandwich, much to the guests dismay, as she would have preferred hers less done. But honestly, they were delicious. The salad was nicely done, fresh and well-dressed, but they forgot to add the chicken. When they discovered their mistake, they were not only apologetic, but asked if I still wanted it. When I said yes (and I was glad I did-it was tender, juicy and tasty), they again apologized, said it was being prepared and of course they would not charge me for it. Nice choice of beers on tap, along with many other choices. I nice pub and a great restaurant.

Stopped by for lunch and ended up staying for the "Fire and Ice" festival. Giant ice sculptures (some created right before your eyes), a comedic fire eater, and roasting of marshmallows over fire barrels highlight a lovely evening in Lititz, PA. The wine and food at the restaurant were excellent and the service was very good. I had the pan seared salmon with spinach and rice. It was delicious. My wife had the crab cakes, served with the best french fries I have ever tasted. I'd go back just to get a take out order of fries! Gentlemen, make sure you stop by the Mens Room and say hello to Pearl, the sexy mannequin taking a bubble bath right inside the entrance. She doesn't say much, but she'll watch your back while you relieve yourself! While in Lititz, make sure you stop by the Wilbur Chocolate Candy Store and Museum for some great chocolate and a bit of history.

Went here recently (10/2010) while in the area on business. Very nice dining room, food was good too. Had a salad that was excellent, a risotto that was very good, roasted chicken was good. Unfortunately you may have noticed the slightly downward trend - but my 3 collegues all loved everything. Personally can't give it more than 3 stars. Service was good - pretty good wine list

Took my parents for their anniversary dinner. Luckily, Tuesday is buy one dinner/get one free night. Even with a $25 dinner taken off the tab it was $100 for 3-people. However, the service was very good and the food was delish. My parents both got the twin filet medallions and said they were cooked perfectly. I had the crispy duck and it was the best duck I've had in a while. Overall we really enjoyed our meal, but I'm afraid I could only afford to go back on BOGO night!

Nice dinner after a grueling 4+ hr drive, that should have been 3. Nice new zealand sav blanc to start. I had caesar salad, SO had beet salad. Both were good. On to entrees. I had the short rib special, which was wonderful flavor, just a tad dry. SO had walleye special, also quite good. Dessert was a caramel pudding, a deliscious brownie actually. Nice ambiance.

The food is good- when they have it in stock; watch out for second Friday's cause they sell out. The fillet Mignon is a tasty choice with their home made mash potatoes. I also tried their apple walnut spinach salad and that was awesome! A nice summer meal. The bread they serve is a tasty assortment with soft butter. (And warm) The location of the restaurant is in the center of the Lititz, which is a cute town. The restaurant itself is very old- 1700s and it also has rooms to reserve. (I have not stayed there.) GSI also has a nice patio with a small bar. Overall, I love the place and will be visiting again. And one of these days, I will get there for their breakfast too.

We had a wonderful weekend stay here in a room with a queen bed. Had stayed here before by myself years ago. The addition of an authentic British pub (Bulls Head) adjoining the Inn was a great idea--the pub was packed on Fri nite, so we sat in the bar area of the restaurant and were able to order off the pub menu there--food was great, service was great, and the wife and I were happy with everything (pub has 14 different beers on tap). The pub, BTW, in traditional Britishstyle, does not have table service--tables are first come-first served and self service. The Inn includes a continental breakfast in the morning (including Sunday)--the prices of a separate Sunday brunch starting at 11, tho, looked reasonable enough that we would have done that instead had we not departed earlier. This Inn has a lot of character due to its age (creaky floors, etc) --the hallway circuit breaker kicked once when we used an iron because several rooms were on the same 15A circuit, but that was no problem. Front desk staff couldn't have been nicer (April, particularly) One thing to consider is limited parking in the rear (6 spaces only) on the weekend--however, you can park at the school next door after school hours--street meters are 1 hour for a quarter. This town has a lot of uniqueness--the General Sutter Inn is the perfect place to stay and within walking distance of most places downtown.

Pleasant enough, but the food is just Not. That. Good. Too bad, because the service is fine and ambiance quite nice. My crab cake sandwich was comprised of a tiny crab cake served on a way-too-large, overly-charred roll. Chips were the highlight of the meal. There were three of us for lunch and we were all underwhelmed by our food. A cold sandwich and not-tasty soup were the main complaints.

If quaint shops and storefronts are your thing, Lititz....a town nine miles north of Lancaster in the heart of Amish country, is a place worth visiting. We decided to explore the area and just happened upon the annual Fire and Ice Festival, which is a combination of fun ice sculptures placed around the town sidewalks, and a chili cookoff, which is held at the Elementary school. After a long wait to get into the cookoff, we punted and decided to find a restaurant in town. At the main intersection, we found the General Sutter Inn. Built in 1764, this place will remind folks of the William Penn Inn, Joseph Ambler Inn, and other old historic dining establishments. Since we had the SUV (our big baby stroller) we decided to eat in the cafe section called Zum Anker, rather than annoying the higher paying guests in the main restaurant. After negotiating some steps (Lititz is NOT very handicapped accessible) we sat down to a decent meal. Since I was a bit nervous about the baby roaring into song at any moment, I was a bit annoyed by the laconic service. In fact I strolled the streets for ten minutes waiting for my food. A bird house store......how does that stay in business? Amazes me, but obviously they're doing something right. Anyway, I had the soup and sandwich special and Emily had the chicken salad. She loved her meal.....I was not overly impressed. But her's looked better....she chose wisely. If you're looking for edgy in Lititz....you're far afield. But if down home country with a touch of ubiquitous religion (The Ten Commandments are posted everywhere....even at the pharmacy), then stop on by get a taste of the old ways. Lititz...a nice place to vist but.....

We got married in December of 2008 and had our wedding reception here. The staff was friendly and helpful in planning the reception, all conducted over the phone or internet, because I live out of state. The food was very good and the atmosphere was perfect for a winter wedding. We had a wonderful time!
