I love CaliTort and was so happy to see one open nearby. Of all the CaliTorts I've been to, this is the best run hands down. It's clean, the employees don't look miserable, and they make your order in a reasonable time. Other CaliTorts I've been to take too long to make your food. Here everything is tip top. Part of it is because they're still new, but I hope they keep the effort up. My order is always the carnitas taco combo with the chips and queso. The wall of hot sauce is nice too. For me, the queso and hot sauce wall just slightly edges out chipotle for my favorite quick taco and burrito chain. Both are good and taste different enough I can do both in the same week. :)

I went to this spot 2 times. The prices were way too high! Not a very good value for a mediocre burrito at best. It was loaded with rice. I basically got rice wrapped in a tortilla. I think I will drive the extra 10 minutes to go to Chipotle. They are way better hands down! It is pretty clear to me that most people to review this place never made it to Chipotle.

Can't say enough good things about this place. Best staff around, comfortable environment, everything is perfectly fresh. They cater to vegetarians extremely well. I definitely recommend California Tortilla to any fans of fresh Mexican...you will not be disappointed!

I went here with a group of friends right after it opened. I had the taco salad with pork and it was awesome! The guacamole was so fresh and the salad was pretty big. Service was great and everyone was so friendly and always checking to see if you needed anything. I would definitely recommend this place, so good and fresh! O and if you like hot sauce, they have an entire wall of sauces for you to pick from!

My go-to for a quick easy and healthy dinner. Love the burrito bowls and the wall of spicy sauces. I go here so much I think I earned a free burrito within the first month!

I enjoy this place for the freshness and the hot sauce rack! Reasonable prices, and I don't feel terribly guilty when I leave. I have gotten the veggie burrito and the burrito bowl, and was left feeling satisfied both times. I'm excited to try the fish tacos and to explore more of their menu. As a bonus, you can watch your food being made. Always a plus.

Definitely worth a trip to. The service is always excellent, with friendly people. Soda machine for the win! Also, an entire wall of hot sauces to choose from. Try the queso!

Just finished eating a damn good burrito from California Tortilla. This place is better than Chipotle by far. The service was a little slow but I can deal with it if my food is always going to be this good. It's really nice inside, unlike Chipotle. Believe me, when you try this place, you'll forget all about Chipotle.

We went in to this shopping center yesterday to get some lunch and saw the sign for the new California Tortilla, so we headed over for some burritos! They weren't actually open yet, but were having a special practice event where we got free food and drinks so that the staff could prepare for the grand opening and so that they could get feedback. We were very happy with our meals! The service was a bit slow - but like I said they were learning and I'm sure that will improve. I'd rather good food be slow than bad food be fast anyway. My burrito bowl was the "no meato" and had big chunks of fresh peppers and zuchini (among the other ingredients). The sauce was fresh and tasty as well. My husband had a chicken burrito of some variety and it was pretty darn good too. The chicken was fresh and rubbed in some sort of spice mix which made it less boring (cause let's face it ... chicken can be boring). Overall a great lunch and I'm sure it's only going to get better!

I usually go to the one in roosevelt blvd redlion, saw that they have a branch near where I live so I decided to get the chips and guac here, I can honestly say not the best one I've tasted. Better stick to the original.

Been here twice now, pretty good experience both times. The first time I got a burrito bowl w/ blackened chicken. Good, but was in a hurry so I just got the basics and didn't look everything over. Second time I got the ramen burrito and it was excellent. Fresh cilantro, whole slices of avocado, and the tender pork were the highlights. Clean, spacious establishment in the dining area. Others have mentioned the impressive wall of hot sauces. They also have one of those digital soda machines. Will be returning soon.

The food is always fresh, the place is always clean, and the wall of hot sauces is terrific! The fajitas are restaurant quality!! The meals are flavorful but NOT greasy (a huge plus!).

I have to start this review off by first stating that I'm not a big fan of "Tex Mex" or "chain" Mexican restaurants in general. Not at all. So, you can call me a snob if you like, but as a former long term resident of California, which everyone knows has the best Mexican restaurants in the country AND as a frequent visitor south of the border to partake of the tasty victuals from whence they originated, when it comes to Mexican food, it almost goes without saying that my palate is more, shall we say, refined than the average strip mall visitor. Now that I've impressed you with my ability to pen a ridiculously long sentence, I'll explain why, although everything I've said above is the whole truth and nothin' but, I'm giving this particular California Tortilla a well-earned 5 stars. First of all, the service was great, from the time I walked in, till the time I left. (And FYI, my family never makes it easy when we place orders, what with 7-year-old twins that can never make their minds up about what they want to eat.) Our disjointed, long-winded, confusing order didn't faze the CT crew one bit. And BONUS, our kids got to spin a wheel (like a miniature version of the one on "Wheel Of Fortune") good for a free burrito our next trip there. We got exactly what we ordered and our order made it to our table in minutes, fresh and hot. And the food? It was excellent. Truth be told, I actually intended to order hard shell tacos and ordered soft shell tacos by mistake. Why? Because I HATE soft shell tacos. Well, not these bad boys. After I got over the fact they weren't hard shell tacos, I was amazed at how well-seaoned the steak was. And the fish tacos were out of this world. Not only was the fish fresh and delicious - the toppings - the cabbage slaw, lime, cilantro, and chipotle sour cream were perfect. (And another thing about the fish - it was actually pleasantly crispy. Not sure how they pulled that off, but there was no discernible breading and it wasn't fried, and yet it was OH SO CRISPY. Something my tastebuds and tapeworm were absolutely giddy about. Oh yeah, I actually went there. I did in fact, use the word giddy.) My family was equally pleased with their food. They ordered the quesadillas, burritos and tacos. My 7-year-old son, Noah, who has been inhaling Tabasco sauce like he gets paid to do it since he was 2, loved the "Wall Of Flame" which appears to have every hot sauce known to mankind. And we all loved the chips and queso, which is far superior to Moe's. (The chips AND the queso.) One last thing. While I was eating, I noticed that the owner of the restaurant was constantly interacting with the customers to make sure they were happy with their food. Now I ask you: When was the last time you saw that in a chain restaurant? Exactly. And that, combined with all the other reasons I just listed, my friends, is why I gave this place a 5 out of 5 stars. The End.

I had driven by this place once or twice and was intrigued to try it, hoping for an alternative to Chipotle, as this is much closer to where I live. When I looked at the menu I was excited by the many many options! However, on Friday night I tried it and have no intentions on returning. Right when I walked in the woman at the register was extremely slow (painfully) and I felt as though she was confused by my "create your own" burrito bowl. While waiting for my food, I was already annoyed at how long it took to order. Once the food came, it looked good. However, it was mediocre at best. I ordered my veggie burrito bowl with the spicy sauce, lettuce, tomato, corn, cheese, guacamole, salsa, peppers, onions, rice, black beans, etc. When I received my food, my bowl had barely any cheese, it was NOT spicy at all, and was mostly beans and rice. I was very disappointed, as I had high hopes and was so excited to try this place. Overall, my experience was eh, and unfortunately, I do not plan on returning.

California Tortilla has good, fresh grub in a Mexican/Tex-Mex style. The store is large and clean, and the staff seems into its mission. My Chicken Quesadilla was loaded with Beans, Corn, Lettuce, Fresh Jalapenos, Monterrey Jack and plenty of Doodle Do. The Tortilla was thin and crisp from heating on the grill as its ingredients were gathered and mixed and then sealed with the melting of the cheese. It was very nice. Their signature is the wall of hot sauces that you can select and pour into little plastic cups in any configuration and quantity you wish. I went with the Bee Sting Honey/Habanero and Pineapple Pizzazz (I do love fruity salsas). The Pineapple combo was deliciously hot and played well with the quesadilla. The Bee Sting was exactly that. Hot, piquant, and left me to drive home with semi-numb lips. It was great! So, while I normally prefer my Southwestern cuisine in divey bars in Tucson or Nuevo Laredo, or even in the transformed taverns of Trenton that are now all Latin eateries, California Tortilla offers a very tasty and entertaining alternative, especially if you don't like adventure as part of your dining experience.

The first time here. This place was great! All the food was very fresh and the staff was wonderful. The flavors were authentic. I must admit I fell in love with a wall of fire. I must've stood in front of it for five minutes straight. However, even without the hot sauce the food was excellent. With regard to the reviews complaining about waiting too long, we came on Monday at lunchtime and had our food within 10 minutes. If you live in this area you have to try this place. Chipotle needs to get over themselves.

Came to get food before heading to sesame place. Yes, it's like Chipotle, as others mentioned - however, there are more cons then pros to this place. Cons: - It literally takes 15 to 20 minutes to get the food. It's not a sit down restaurant where food will be brought to you on the table - Portions are way smaller amount then Chipotle or Qdoba - Price is $4-5 more than Chipotle and /or Qdoba - The reason for the extra cost, for grilled vegetables, guacamole etc basically anything small you wanted extra added to your dish, will cost you more $$ Pros: - Clean restaurant - nice staff My husband only likes this place due to convenience to Sesame place, other than that go find Chipotle or Qdoba. You'll get more for your $$.

I came here a few days ago with my sister. I ordered a burrito bowl with taco meat, beans, rice, jack cheese, corn, and queso cheese. What sets CT above places like other mexican fast food chains is how friendly the staff is - and the queso cheese! lol. I used to go to a place called Machismo in Manayunk and that's the only other place I have found that you can mix queso in with your burritos. Next time I would either choose the larger bowl or just get a normal burrito, because I did find that the small was a little too small to fill me up. I made up for it by ordering a side of chips - which were equally as yummy! I had to keep reminding my sister to eat a few of them before I devoured them all. My only negative comment on this place, which I have found to be true even when going to Chipotle, is that the food was not as hot as I normally like my food to be. It would have been even better if it was a to go order and I could just heat it up a little. Other than that - great restaurant!

I went there today for the first time and let's just say I will never return the place was empty witch now I know why. Their burritos taste like crap their chips taste like they were burnt very unsatisfied. I took a few bites of my food and through the whole thing out because it was disgusting. The restaurant itself was a little on the dirty side.

Love love love cali tort!! The food is always tasty, fresh and fast!! I think I might be addicted to the honey lime sauce!

For an inexpensive place to grab Mexican food California Tortilla tops the cake. My favorite item is the honey lime chicken burrito. The sauce that they put on the burrito is amazing. It is a lot of food for your buck. I also like all of the soda selections and the Hot Sauce selections. It's a great place if you want a quick Mexican meal. Only major downside to the place is the parking lot. It is too crowded and hard to find a spot.

Okay so I've been going to this place since it's opened up and I have been impressed with it ever since then. But today when I went there I wanted to try something new. I got the Korean barbecue burrito....big mistake. I don't know what it was but is just way too sweet and also had a weird aftertaste. I'm a big guy and I can eat one of the other burritos in one sitting this thing was just so sweet that I couldn't even get halfway through it when I decided to throw it away other than that I love the restaurant the hot sauces on the wall are excellent but for now on I'll stick with my simple pork burrito

Cali Tort has been one of my favorite places since they opened about two years ago. Here's why. The service is WAY BETTER than any quick restaurant around. People are always friendly. Place is spotless. And the food is way more creative and fresh than any other Mexican place like Chipolte, Qdoba or Moe's. I could drink the queso. I love the wall of hot sauce. And it's not a factory, pushing you down a cattle line and shoving you in to eat with a herd of people. This place is great. Fresh food that doesn't sit all day takes a few minutes to make, people! And my orders are always right and fast. I love Cali tort!

It's like a Chipotle with no quality control. I had a steak burrito and the steak was burnt beyond recognition. My wife had the burrito bowl with the same problem. The restaurant is less generous than a typical chipotle and the quality of the other ingredients is roughly similar. Cost is just about the same coming to 21 for both of us. I would t come back here unless I had a serious jones for a burrito and no chipotle was close.

Pick up the pace folks! This ain't no fancy sit down establishment. If I have to wait 20 minutes for my burrito while the only person here, you're doing it wrong. Like the food, but it's ain't that great. You lost me as customer.

I recently had dinner here and at first I looked at their menu and was happy with the selection of choices but after my meal I don't think I'd go back. I ordered a carnitas bowl with toppings I was able to choose. The flavors of the toppings weren't robust or fresh and the carnitas and the amount given was dismal. I will say though I may be biased, I love Chipotle and feel that every fast food Mexican restaurant I encounter is one that I weigh against Chipotle. So if Chipotle didn't exist I may have been more satisfied but since Chipotle is here I wouldn't ever bother again. The amount I paid for what I got was a rip off considering I can get fresher and higher quality ingredients at Chipotle for practically the same price. So if you have never been to Chipotle come here you may like it. If you love Chipotle you are just asking to be disappointed!

Excellent!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed my burrito. California Tortilla uses fresh ingredients to create each burrito, nachos, quesdilla, and taco dish. They have a wall full of hot sauces ranked from 1-10 for their hotness!!!Staff was friendly and attentive when addressing an allergy. They have an arrangements of soda, you choose a base soda or lemonade and add a flavor to it. For a not so spicy dish, I reccommend the BBQ Ranch Crunch Burrito. For a spicy burrito, try the Korean BBQ burrito

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
