Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Ample portions. Good value. Many vegetarian selections. Tandoori vegetables had excellent flavor.

Okay, went here for lunch and had an overall nice experience. Service wise... everyone stopped out to make sure everything was to our liking but they did not overbear us at all.. just very polite. The lunch buffet really has a bit of everything and I LOVED the Bharta, there was a goat curry as well which was nice to sample, mild dishes but not bland. The only thing I would fault would be the chicken in the tikka masala had some joint bits throughout so a bit of picking but still all the dishes we nice, on the healthy side recipes and fresh. Nice interior, nice staff.. I will be back

DO NOT JUDGE THIS RESTRAUNT BY THE OUTSIDE! It's attached to travel lodge. Tulsi has a beautiful dining area, with great service, delicious food, with a low key quiet relaxing atmosphere. We did not feel rushed by staff or anything. Plenty of vegan/vegetarian options! I give tulsi 5 stars.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Now it is the worst-est-er of times. Used to be our spot. We got over the fact that it resides in a horrible looking Travelodge. They were on point. The chicken tikka masala was awesome. Garlic naan delicious. Then things changed. They started making the tikka masala with chicken thighs. It is inedible. Before that horrendous experience we would try to go there in the middle of the day... they would have their open sign on. We would park and they would run over and turn the sign off. Whatever, we'll go to Taj Mahal I guess.

Good food, good service and friendly staff! I was so tired of eating Amish food this weekend and was so happy to find this restaurant. Even though it was a 20 minute drive from my hotel, it was worth the trip!!!

Surprised to see cockroaches were found in last food inspection (June, '15), which I saw after my visit. I found the $10 weekday buffet to appear fresh and well done on a Friday as they were clearly cooking dishes for the upcoming weekend rush, but did notice the lid on the white rice dessert had not been cleaned and had residue from a tomato based dish crusted and dried on the rim, out of view unless you turned it over a bit. Flavors very good, variety very good. Not sure if I'll get over the roaches and the developing world approach to hygiene. I guess plenty of people deal with worse and plenty of restaurants have bigger issues.

Authentic North Indian cuisine. Deliciously seasoned - just spicy enough for me. Fast, gracious service. Was totally worth the 10 mile drive across town. I have left overs for breakfast! Oh- the coffee mug of Masala Chai was yummy after 3 packets of stevia, which they provided!

It's cold inside (really cold) the service in very slow, food not bad but small portions for the price and too spicy without telling you . First came here on New Year's Day so gald they were open. Got there at 6pm my first time my wife hasn't been in years. We usually hit a awesome place downtown who was closed today. We sit in a nicely decorated half booth. It's us a one other couple in the restaurant . I use the restroom which was clean but needed a paint job and the lid to the trash can looked gross. It was really cool in the bathroom. I come back to the table and find the whole restaurant is REALLY COLD. We order apps and fine out they have no mango chutney (our favorite ) she got vegetable pakors I got a Manchurian cauliflower dish and a bread basket. Hers is ok my cauliflower is good but it's sold as a BBQ dish and it's really spicy(I don't mine but my wife not so much) and it was a $8 app that was life 7 pieces of cauliflower also the some was undercooked some overcooked. We ate our apps. Had our sodas refilled twice and our water twice and three people stopped to ask if everything was ok and a half hour after we finished our apps (i know someone text as I was finishing up by app) our server comes by and asks if we want to fire our entrees. I work in the restaurant business and have never been asked to fire my own entrees before. We had plenty on Naan to eat during the wait because even though we asked for it with our entrees they brought it out with the apps. It was an $8 beard basket that on the menu was an assortment of nan, onion kulcha & laccha paratha. (I asked because I wanted to try the one and was going to order it separately) we got two slices of Onion and a basket of plain Naan. Our entrees arrive in rather small dishes. Mughlai (Chicken) Biryani in a 12oz metal soup bowl ($13.95) no nuts or raisins basically a Indian fried rice with a few pieces of chicken thighs and it was spicy. On the menu it says with species not spicy. Big difference. The Boti Kabab Masala was good but but again served in a small metal dish and the same with the Chicken Xacutti (a coconut sauce that was really spicy with no mention on the menu) with on small bowl of rice. We ordered a lot of food we were looking forward to leftovers for the weekend. We asked for to go boxes and the bill. We had to ask for the bill three more times and finally went to the waiter and asked for it. Just over $70 and 2 plus hours later the food wasn't bad but overall disappointed

The food was good, however it was not worth the 1 hour wait time!! When we entered the restaurant, we were taken to the table immediately, but then we had to wait for pretty much everything. We waited for the water to be served. We waited for the order to be taken. After 1 hour of entering the restaurant, you would expect the main course to be served - right? Finally the food came, but wait! Where were the dinner plates?? So we waited for the dinner plates to come. But can we all eat now? Wait - not everybody have spoons besides them. Wait - one dinner plate is missing, too!!! It was an utter chaos and un-professionalism at its best!! The lady in charge literally scolded us to keep our voices down and asked us to stop complaining. She claimed that we were warned of nearly 1 hour wait time when we entered into the restaurant (in reality - no one told us so). We were ready to leave the restaurant at that point, but did not do so at the end. After this, every employee and the managers (including the lady) of the restaurant came to us to apologize, but the damage was already done.

Tulsi is of the best Indian restaurants in South/Central Pennsylvania I've come across. The food is right on point - great quality for a fair price - and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. This restaurant is a must for any Indian food lover passing through the Lancaster area.

Went on a recent Thursday evening, and we were the only ones in the entire restaurant, other than staff. As I would expect, the service was very good (they only had 1 table to watch over). They were very friendly, and kept water glasses full. Happy with the level of service we had, but with just one table, not sure it was that big of a challenge. We ordered a combination of different dishes (one saag, one curry, one tandoori grill, etc....). The food was fine - no complaints, but not memorable either. It was Indian food, with traditional spices, but it was nothing great. May be because we had just gone to another Indian restaurant near Pittsburgh about 2 weeks earlier where the food was so delicious & flavorful, so maybe Tulsi is just not up to the same level. But I also realized that the prices at Tulsi were about $3-$5 higher per entree than the place in Pittsburgh, so the food is not as good, but it's also higher priced. And the portions seemed smaller, as well. That leads us to a conclusion that it's not worth a return visit. It's not a bad place, and the people were very nice, but it's just not high on our list for Indian food. We will just need to continue looking elsewhere for good Indian food that is closer to us than Pittsburgh (3-4 hour drive for us).

Came with my family of six and we ordered 3 curry dishes and the tandoor chicken with the bread basket. The curry portions were as tiny as a cup. So if you want to spend $13 for a cup of curry with 4 pieces of meat nuggets and a bowl of rice, this is the right place. I have to agree that the quality of the food and taste are great but the portions and prices are not worth it. Also, the dishes are so plain. Nothing but just curry and meat with rice. No veggies or anything. The service was good as the waiters were attentive but since we ordered 4 dishes, at least give us 4 bowls of rice. Instead they bring just one bowl of rice and we had to ask for more. They should have just brought out the rice. Will I come back: never again because the portions as for children and overpriced.

Tulsi is one of Lancaster's hidden gems. It is somewhat easy to miss, due to location, but it isn't easy to forget. Some of the best Indian food I've had, outside of SE Asia. The staff are very knowledgeable, and eager to please. They also aren't afraid to offer recommendations, which is quite helpful, especially if you are new to Indian food, or unsure of a food's name. Dinner at Tulsi seems more formal than lunch, and has an ambiance that would be perfect for a date. They also offer a more casual lunch buffet, which is perfectly balanced, variety wise, IMO. The chicken tikka masala, the nan, and the gulab jamun are all delicious, and will have you coming back, for sure! I also feel the prices are quite reasonable for the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. Tulsi won't break the bank. A must try, in Lancaster.

Quite excellent. That atmosphere was rarefied and welcoming. Strains of a somewhat mystical Baja in the background. Polite and accommodating service all around. The dinner plate was warmed. The food delicious and hot. Broad but not ridiculous menu scope. I enjoyed every bit. The mango chutney was not homemade. However, I had a great meal of Curried Chicken plus eggplant vegetable dish for just over twenty lean green.

Lancaster. Not known for anything beyond Amish and Padutch culture. Suprised to find an Indian restaurant, here? Yup. And it's not bad. The buffet is very well stocked. The selection varies depending on the chef's feelings that morning. Nice decor. Friendly staff! Want another suprise? They have a full service bar. Alcohol in an Indian restaurant is like finding a Dalmatian with yellow spots. Rare. But because of Lancaster's limited yogi/Hindu population, don't expect to see girls in Lululemon pants getting hammered and having headstand contests.

Shocking that Indian food can be prepared so poorly. I'm surprised that I lived through this meal. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Avoid this place like the plague.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten from. I did take-out. The man who answered the phone was very easy to communicate with, no accent or language problems. The food was amazing! I highly recommend the vegetable fritters and the Paneer Saagwala. I'm a paneer lover, and these guys nailed it. Also, do not miss out on the Bombay naan. I'm going to be dreaming about that for weeks to come. Definitely Lancasters best Indian!

The original owner of Tulsi has sold the restaurant and, as a result, the quality of the food and service has suffered. It is no longer a good indian restaurant and the service is poor at best. I no longer recommend Tulsi, go to Taj Majal instead.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We went for the lunch buffet on a Sunday. The location didn't fill me with too much hope, but yelp rarely lets me down so I overlooked it. We were seated quickly and that's when the weirdness started. Our waiter must have been on something. For about 20 seconds he just stood behind us staring directly at our table, not us. just the center of our table. When we asked him what he was looking at he replied "the table is very interesting." I asked him to clarify. His response was "Have a good day sir" and walked away. uhhh. okay. As we were leaving, he mumbled something to my father. I asked him to repeat himself so we could hear him and he replied "I wish I was a dolphin swimming in the sea. " I'm not making this up. It was a little too weird, even for me. I told him to seek help and we left. The food was mediocre at best. Mostly everything was lukewarm with the rice being straight up cold. Great naan though. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Its my favorite Indian food in the area. It is connected to a hotel but I wouldn't judge it by that. Waiters are really professional or at least the ones that I have had.

Apparently it just opened in a section of the travelodge and since I generally dont see hotel restaurants as worth much I never noticed. But in this case oh man was it good! Im no indian food connoisseur, but this was fantastic. ---------- FOOD: We got the buffet. It was evenly distributed with vegetarian and non vegetarian items. Of course I crammed as much veggie stuff in me as I could, especially the veggie fritters. (pakoras) DECOR: Its an indian restaurant, but its not overwhelmingly decorated that way. There are some touches here and there, some paintings and some decorations, but mostly its a plain ol' restaurant. SERVICE: Good. The friendly waiter came back and cleared the table often and asked how we were a lot. Usually when you get a buffet, they couldnt care less how you are after they seat you. ---------- FINAL THOUGHTS: Would I go again? Oh yeah. This time I got the buffet, but theyve got a whole veggie section on the menu that Im going to have to try next time.

Atmosphere: Yes, it's in a Travelodge, but the inside decor is not bad. Service: Very attentive Food: DELICIOUS! Nice vegetarian selection. We had 2 appetizers: veggie platter (yummy fried veggies and samosa) and Gobi Manchurian (kind of spicy, but delicious!). Then we shared 3 entrees: Mutter Paneer (everyone's favorite), Vegetable Jalfrezi, and Aloo Gobi. All the entrees were delicious, loaded with veggies, and large portions for the price. I would also highly recommend the Poori (a puffy deep fried bread, used to scoop up the food w/your hands). Drinks: I was impressed with the large selection of wines by the glass. One glass tasted like the bottle had been open too long, but they were very apologetic and offered to replace the glass. I would highly recommend this place!! I'm already looking forward to my leftovers for lunch..........

Yelp just keeps coming through when I'm in places that seem limited in the food arena...I did not expect to find good Indian food out in Amish country, but this place came through well. The service was great even before we got there - when I made the reservation on the phone, they offered to have appetizers waiting for us when we arrived! The manager was extremely pleasant throughout, sharing just enough personal anecdotes at the end of the meal to entertain and culture us, without interrupting our group meal. The samosas were that fine balance between a thin, non-oily crispy shell, and a surprisingly fully spiced filing. The shrimp biryani was almost as good as homecooked, the yellow dal was tasty and smooth, the chicken tikka masala was delicious and spicy, and the lamb vindaloo was enjoyed by all. The baingan bharta was delicious, but very spicy, so watch out for that if you're not down with that. The saag was very good as well. The garlic nan featured abundant garlic and was thin and crispy. Match that with a full bar and you're guaranteed a great night. If I ever find myself out in Lancaster, craving Indian food, again, I'll absolutely be back.

I'm always pleased with the food. The atmosphere is usually quiet, although that seems like a bad thing considering its slow on a Friday or Saturday night. I come here often and will continue. Worth a visit to experience for yourself.

Not only is their food outstanding (& I thought I didn't like Indian food!) but their customer service is above & beyond! They deliver for free! They remembered my name! They gave me FREE "honey balls" just because I told them that I loved their restaurant! + to top it off, after a long day at work, I wanted to pick up dinner on my way home (around 4 pm) & they didn't open for dinner until 5pm. I told them, no problem, I'll order another time. But they insisted to open their kitchen to accommodate me! This is, by far, my favorite restaurant! Thank you, Tulsi, for treating your customers so well! How refreshing!

This place is great. The owner is a young guy who has worked his butt off to create authentic Indian dishes right here in the cultural wasteland of Lancaster. I have been going down the menu, just ordering something random every time, and haven't yet been disappointed. Chances are, this place will be empty when you walk in. Do not be afraid. Great for an anniversary or meet-up with friends. The staff will also recognize you if you come often, which is a great side benefit.

I was surprised to find a Desi joint in this Amish wonderland, more so cause it was actually pretty decent. Two words: "Chicken Wings". They kick Hooters' a** big time, although I'd keep going back to Hooters for something else. Chicken Tikka Masala was also very good. Two enthusiastic wings up!!!

I had to write a review for this restaurant. I just had to. I wasn't expecting a great Indian culinary experience when I went searching for Indian food in the lancaster area. We were visiting Dutch wonderland with another family and staying at a hotel nearby. Looking for Indian food after a tiring day, it was about 20 min before closing time when I called Tulsi to place our takeout order. The person taking the order was nice, and did not try to rush me, even tho I didn't have their menu in front of me and had to ask him several questions. The drive to the restaurant from DW is about 20 min, and by the time I got there it was past closing time. I had to call once I was close to the Restaurant because according to the GPS I had missed it. The same person took the call as before and was still very understanding in giving directions, even though it was past closing time. When I walked in I was surprised to see three tables still occupied and the door was not locked even after 10. It took another 15 minutes or so before I finally got my order. Excellent service all the way through, even though there was only one server to attend the tables and the phones and me. When I got back to the hotel with the food, everything was as I had ordered, and the food - Absolutely Delicious! Everyone loved the food, including the kids. It was spiced to our liking. The food was so good in fact that we decided to go back the next day on our way back to DC. The only complaint this time was the chicken malai kabob was not really that good. All the other dishes, including the tea were really good. I honestly wish Tulsi was closer to where we lived, so that it could be our favorite restaurant to go to. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone going to amish country and willing to drive a little bit further for great food.

As other reviewers have said, this place is in a very unfortunate location. We actually almost didn't go in, as the outside seems a little too dumpy to expect good food. But once you step inside, it is very nice and well appointed. And, wow, the food here is incredibly decadent, flavorful and delicious! The favorite dish at our table was the Palak Paneer. The prices seem a little high, as this is still a hotel restaurant. I'm glad we were adventurous enough to give it a try. You should, too.

We came here since we found Tulsi on Yelp searching for vegetarian fare during a weekend trip. We had their weekend buffet lunch. The naaan and desert (kheer during our visit) were excellent. The vegetarian items were decent and were not too spicy. Overall it was the usual fare expected from an Indian buffet. We did find it strange though that our 4yr old was charged for a full adult meal - something never done and unheard of in NJ/NY.

Alright, if you remember my review of Taj Mahal, you can no doubt sense the longing in my words for a good Indian place in Lancaster. Whereas Taj Mahal is some of the most bland, nothing-special ho-hum Indian food in Central PA, Tulsi is its polar opposite, an arch-enemy if you will. Firstly, the chefs there specifically have toned down the fattiness of Indian food for their cuisine. Now, normally "fatty" runs hand-in-hand with "delicious." That has been one of my personal catch 22s about Indian food: It can be so delicious, yet in order to get the yums, you must also get the Tums. But at Tulsi, they have found a way to make the food much less fatty than other Indian places, but still outshine in terms of flavor. Given, I'm sure if all you ever did was eat at Tulsi, you would probably obtain a nice squishy midsection, but the food definitely looks and tastes more "healthy" for Indian food than I am used to, but equally as yummy as the best I have had. I have visited on two different occasions, during the lunch hour and ate from the buffet both times. Some items, like Tandoori chicken and Saag Paneer, seem to be mainstays, but they managed to switch up the selection a decent amount both times I was there. I feel as if those two visits enabled me to enjoy most of their menu, although I am sure there is much more to be had. The service is great. The waiters are very attentive (yes, even for buffet customers), and regularly stopped by the table where I was sitting with coworkers to refill water, clear plates, etc. I can only imagine how good the service would be if I went there in the evening and ordered from the menu. The inside is very nice, especially given the fact that it adjoins a Travelodge, which is not exactly a bastion of atmosphere. There are traditional Indian decorations among white linens, and the lighting is very non-intrusive and warm. Tulsi is extremely clean(I even had a peek in the kitchen on the way to the restrooms, and it looks spotless in there), maybe even a tad too sterile. I think that it could benefit from a more earthy feel, but it is still very comfortable in the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place. Especially if you have never had Indian food (and you definitely wouldn't the OTHER place in Lancaster to be your first experience). I will return to Tulsi again and again, as I still have yet to enjoy ordering off the menu. Great place!

Don't let the Travellodge fool you! The food here is delicious. Visited on a Sunday and had the buffet, pleasantly surprised with a choice of 9 entrees all of which were different, not just typical curies i've found in many buffets. The tandor chicken was slightly dry, but everything else was excellent. Not busy, only 5 other tables of diners there while i dined, hope the area will patronize this establishment so they won't be forced to limit their options or even remain afloat. Go there and eat, worth a visit.

This is a new-ish Indian restaurant in the Lancaster area, and it has quickly become the favorite of my family. The menu is standard for an Indian restaurant in America, and the food is consistently good. It's not quite as overly-fatty and creamy the way some Indian food can be. Service has always been good. The pricing is reasonable, and the atmosphere is nice. I only have a few minor complaints. The whole-wheat breads here (Paratha) are not as good as some places. The Tikka Malasa, also, I don't think is very good. I've had excellent experiences with other dishes, especially the garlic naan, the saag, vindaloo, and the many vegetarian options.

I visited Tulsi on a Saturday. They do not open until noon on Saturdays and the buffet was not setup when I entered. It took maybe another 10 minutes or so for items to come trickling out of the kitchen. They had a small salad setup with iceberg lettuce, carrots, cucumber and tomatoes. There were a few traditional Indian dressings but I never know the names of them. There was a hot sauce, a pickled mixed vegetables, cucumber Raita (a yogurt based one), a mint chutney and tamarind chutney. The there was naan, white Basmati rice, fried potatoes (pretty much french fries), Tandoori chicken with onions and peppers, Chicken Tikka Masala, Curry Chicken, a potato, green bean and tomato dish, a vegetable curry, a bean dish and Saag Paneer (creamed spinach type dish). The desserts were fruit salad (cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes & pineapple), Sooji Halva (a sugary nut paste) and Gulab Jamun (deep-fried dough balls soaked in syrup). The sauces were all very good. I especially liked the cucumber Raita and the tamarind chutney. The naan was very good, it was warm and buttery. The fried potatoes were nice, a bit crispy. The Basmati rice was just plain rice, nothing to mention really. The Tandoori Chicken was good, it was drumsticks and thighs, cooked perfectly and the favor was nice. Both the the Chicken Tikka Masala and Curry Chicken was much to dry and overcooked. They used very large pieces of breast meat and they were almost inedible from being so well done. The potato, green bean tomato dish was pleasant although some of the potatoes were slightly undercooked. The vegetable curry was probably the best dish, it had potatoes, green beans, corn and probably other vegetables. The Saag Paneer was also very good. The fruit seemed fresh and was okay. The Sooji Halva, which I normally don't like as it's too sweet, was very good. It was hot and not overly syrupy. The Gulab Jamun was delicious, I've never had it before. It's a paste of cashews, peanuts and possibly other nuts, it was very good. I have a more in-depth review on my personal blog.

I've been to many Indian Restaurants on the East Coast and am very critical of the flavors, taste, ambience and service that I receive. I was Extremely impressed with TULSI in many aspects. The food was flavorful, non-oily, not filled with heavy cream and very authenitic. The portion size was perfect for one person as I finished my entire entree and had room for dessert Kheer. The price was very reasonable considering current economic conditions and the cost of produce/meat. The ambience was warm, colorful with soft contemporary indian music. The bathroom was clean and odorless. The waiters knew the food and spices, they were able to address my questions and even offered me 10% discount since I was a new customer there. I agree with some of the other reviews regarding the location (it's inside a Travelodge Hotel) but don't let the location alter your decision to try Tulsi. You'll be glad you found this hidden treasure. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. Keep up the great food and service TULSI !!! I'll be back with friends and family.
