If I've sampled a place that others say is great but I didn't like, if I can, I attempt to try it more than once. This was probably my third or fourth meal from Caruso's on Fruitville Pike and consistently, the food was dreadful. I know others swear by Caruso's but I don't see it. The meal this evening I tried their Sicilian style pizza. It's a thick, bready crust. Tonight, it was burned. There were actually blackened, burned edges on the crust and overall, it takes on a dark brown more often seen on walnut paneling than on pizza. Underneath, it appears, as is frequently the case with a deep dish pizza, it's cooked in oil. In this case, the over-cooking make the bottom 1/4" or so a tough, leathery base. It was mostly inedible. Special requests may not be well received at Caruso's. I had asked for light sauce. The persona taking my order repeated back in a questioning manner, "light sauce?". And I replied, please go easy on the sauce, very little." My pizza was slathered in sauce (see the pictures for the burned crust and the floating sauce). What's more, it's sickeningly sweet tomato that would shame products with names like "Ragu". There's no excuse for something like that on a pizza in any amount, much less with so much sauce the cheese and toppings literally floated to the middle of the pizza like some nasty mozzarella slug looking for a home. And no, this wasn't a handling issue. Look at the picture, the cheese and toppings have floated towards the center of the pizza equally, all the way around. I hate their italian sausage. It's bland, at best but that is a very subjective call. I realize others may enjoy that style. My earlier experiences, trying the Neopolitan style were much the same. Sweet sauce, thin, grossly over-cooked crust more suitable for a dog biscuit than a pizza. The good side. The kitchen appears to be clean and bright. The people I spoke with were polite and helpful even if ineffective getting me what I ordered. I've really given Caruso's a chance. And I've cut them some slack in the ratings. Caruso's deserves a single star but in acknowledgement that others I know have raved about their food, I'll give them two stars. I urge you not to experiment here. I've heard the other stores do a better job. That's possible but given my experiences, I'm done giving Caruso's one more chance.

I have been here a few times now and everything I have had here was great! Pastas, Pizza and especially the Stromboli! I'm hard pressed to find a better Stromboli around, for starters it is huge, the medium alone is enough for 3 people. Not only that but it was absolutely delicious! I'll definitely be making this shop part of my regular dining out routine!

Best pizzeria I've been to in a long time. It has become out regular spot. Everything is fresh, from there pizza, subs, panini. Atmosphere is great. The owner/ employee usually know what I'm going to order before I order and they now exactly how I want it prepared and the place is always clean. Haven't had a compliant in the last 2 years I've been going there.

The food was absolutely amazing! I ordered one of my favorite pizzas, the Bianca Primavera, and it was delicious. It was cooked just perfectly golden brown the way I like it. The staff was also very professional and friendly here! This place is one of my regulars now. I definitely recommend!

Best Stromboli in Lancaster! Customer service is always warm and welcoming in this family owned business.

So the guy complaining about the char on his crust actually got me to go here because I like that because it usually means it's oven baked and yummy. That was the case for the rust here! Thinner than somewhere like Papa John's, crispy, and yummy. I actually didn't have any burned edges on mine. The sauce and cheese here is just okay. I liked the black olive and onion pizza, but not the cheesesteak pizza. My family liked the cheesesteak, but I found it undercooked a bit and just not as good as others in the area (mainly Harrisburg pizza places, but that is in the same area to me, okay?). The garlic bread was AMAZING. It's super thin, yummy, and garlicky. Yum yum yum. It's also huge and you get SO much for the price. Our big complaint was that we came 30 minutes after we ordered to pick up and they hadn't started the pizza. The guy kept saying he was busy, but obviously was not as there were like 2 tables (already eating) in the place and no phones ringing. He rushed the order and one pizza came out a bit undercooked.

The man was very helpful when I had to order for my sister first. He did take the order and then took mine, and we both got our food at the same time. I love the pizza here, although I wish they would have had the specialty pizzas out when I got there. But that's ok. I still got a great meal and even tried the loaded curly fries. All in all, I love Caruso's food, its a good place to eat.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
