This place is unique for their vanilla cake donuts and the fact that each donut is freshly fried in front of you! Trust me, you've never had a donut like this before. The first bite is soft, like biting into a warm, sweet cloud, and the toppings give enough variety for the adventurous types. The donut seems to melt away in your mouth, and I personally find the small size appealing. I can eat more donuts and *cough* fewer calories. (Yeah... Right.) The Dutchman also sells special flavors of the week, yeast donuts (they are so much better than DD!), and pastries like apple fritters. Fresh local milk is available in a small fridge to help you wash the yumminess down. There is one BUT! Stay far, far away from anything with peanut butter chips on the donut. They taste like buttery popcorn, which might sound amazing but is really off putting when paired with an artificial grape glaze. My boyfriend is constantly asking me to take him here when he visits, so I guess I'll see you soon, Dutchman!

If you're in Kutztown this is a "must stop" kind of place. Freshly made donuts with a huge variety of toppings. I've stopped in at least once every time I'm in town. The price is good and the folks are nice. An absolute must.

My donuts were made to order. The girl (I cant remember her name) behind the counter was super knowledgeable and seemed to love her job/donuts! Its probably a good thing they are not open every day or I would be fat! I got the chocolate banana and the smores donuts. I fell in love!! It was also too hot outside to have hot coffee with my donuts, they had a selection of iced coffee brewed. It was perfect!! I love this place, definitely a gem in Kutztown!!

Made to order donuts with some crazy good topping options. If you're not into the crazy things go with honey glazed or cinnamon sugar. They also sell some of the best chocolate milk that I have ever had!

The donuts are as fresh as can be. The toppings are sweet and delicious as well. The price is reasonable and the staff is friendly. This is one of our favorite local business and we come back often. If you join their Facebook group, you will receive messages/postings about specials and features, which are always mouth-watering and worth a special stop. I have recently tried their muffins, which are just as awesome as the donuts!

My husband and I stopped in for some donuts over the weekend. We had some local chocolate milk from grass fed cows (pretty awesome that they have this) and it was very yummy! Both of us got 2 donuts. I had the pnb and jelly and the snicker'd (sp??) and both we delish! The pbj was covered with a berry flatbed icing and pnb chips. The snicker'd had chocolate, caramel, and peanuts, and was my favorite of the two. My husband had the pbj also, and his second was the French toast. He loved both. Pbj is his favorite so far, but I'm still hung up on the French toast. The girls working the counter were friendly and a woman who may have been the own was in and asked us how we enjoyed them. It is a nice, cozy local spot. I do my my DD iced coffee, but I wouldn't dare pick a DD donut over these, and you shouldn't either! I should note, it looked like they had iced coffee there and if it's as good as their regular hot coffee, I would recommend that as well.

My mom introduced me to the Frying Dutchman via text. I went to Kutztown before TFD was open there and didn't know they'd moved in. I'm not a huge donut fan and begrudgingly had my mom bring a donut home for me. To my amazed delight, the donut still tasted fresh and was soft and delicious. It has a cake like consistency but not thick and heavy. The glaze was the Pina Colada glaze which was aptly named. I've been back several more times: my favorite is the Maple/Panchetta donut which has a maple glaze topped with crispy panchetta. If you like waffles and bacon, this is for you. They are also serving up coffee, which I haven't tried but they have a nice variety. Local grass fed cow milk is also available which is REALLY good. My next is to try the DARK CHOCOLATE MILK. There are usually fresh made goodies such as muffins, mini pies etc. in addition to the donuts. I also must point out that the owner, Emily, is a pastry chef and is turning out cakes, cupcakes and cookies that are equally, if not more, delicious than the donuts. I had my son's first birthday cake and mini cupcakes made by Emily and my guests LOVED them. I've used her for several other birthday events and was happy each time. More recently she made "save the date" sugar cookies announcing our next baby's due date. Collegetown Bakeries is what they go by for these items. Definitely worth the stop.

Every doughnut is made to order. It's fun watching your doughnut being made. The french toast doughnut is my personal favorite. The owners are super nice.

I love finding little gems like the "Frying Dutchman". The donuts are not the heavy cake variety, but rather light, if you will. The variety is terrific, but you must try the maple. Awesome. Wait, so is the Snicker'd, and the piña colada, and the butterfinger, and the honey glazed, and the......oh, you get the point. If donuts are your thing, you'll love this place.

I am a local to Kutztown and the Frying Dutchman has been an amazing addition to Main St. I eat there just about every Saturday and Sunday morning. There to die for muffins they are perfect on the outside and moist on the inside. Althought I am addicted to there muffins my favorite donut is French Toast and my other half loves the Pina Colda. I am getting hungry to writing about there food.

Sorry to everyone who said it was the best. My kids and I just don't agree. First, their summer hours are not on the website, so do yourself a favor and call ahead. Our first trip, they were closed, so we made a second trip to find the "best doughnuts ever". It's summer, so the door was open, which brought in plenty if flies. The big "flying saucer"- like tray the donuts fall into needs a good scrubbing. I would have liked the gal who took out order to have scrubbed her hands, too, after taking our money, drinking chocolate milk and scratching her face. Also, the dough is in an open container that drops it into the oil. The flies seem to like that too. The donuts were ok- keep in mind that they are a cake donut, not a risen yeast donut. They do have a nice variety of toppings, but the donuts are small so you get mostly a mouth full of topping. All in all, I know they are a popular place with the college crowd and they certainly have their dedicated followers, but I think we will stay with our preference for YumYum in Quakertown.

One of the best donut places I have ever been to. My favorite is the maple with bacon. That one tastes like breakfast.

I think the Cupcake-boutique craze is nearing saturation, but I can't think of another boutique "donuttery" besides a place in East Hampton, LI that made fresh donuts - usually with lines out the door. For me, that was 15 years ago. But this place has a great niche. The cake is freshly made to order in front of you, and the toppings are customized with a dizzying array of fun combos. I mixed a half dozen, and they were all great. The Labrador Retrievers concurred. They sell fresh local milk in glass quarts and half gallons. As a kid, milk ALWAYS tasted better and colder in a glass jug (returnable). On Saturday, there was a line, but the girl behind the counter - running a one man band - was unbelievably chipper, friendly, organized and efficient. I will be trying to persuade the owners to open a new outlet in the West End of Allentown's Theatre District. My call will be forthcoming :)

Their donuts are made fresh, and they also have coffee and some other pastries. You can eat them plain, or get toppings. There are many different glazes, drizzles and toppings to pick from. You can either pick one of their selections or create your own. The donuts are on the smaller size, but you can easily eat 2 or 3 (plus they are very reasonably priced!) It is very similar to 'The Fractured Prune' donut shop you see at the beach. The shop is fairly new to mainstreet and I wish they had later hours! I'll be back, a lot.

I'll use a lot of what others stated: clean, small, friendly, fresh...definitely worth the stop! Donuts are my go to sweet treat, and you can't find any mom/pop owner donuts shops anywhere anymore..too bad we all don't have the luxury of having a cute donut shop like this in our home towns! But watch out cupcake owners: designer donuts ARE the new trend! Like other yelpers have said, they make the donuts right in front of you. You will have to wait a few minutes for the staff and the small donut making fryer/machine to finish your order, but I'll wait for a made from scratch donut with excellent glazes/topping before I would buy a pre-made cup cake or cookies that I have no idea when they were made. The blackboard above the counter tells you the glazes you can have on your donut on the left, and the toppings you can put on top of the glaze to the right. You then let them know each glaze/topping creation and they create each one in front of you. Now big eaters (like me..:), please understand the donuts are about a 3/4 size version to what you may be accustom to. So make sure to take that into consideration when you are ordering the quantity you want. I can eat 2 regular size donuts with a cup of coffee. So with these, I would eat 3 (yes I admit it: I don't know how to say "that's enough"). If you were planning on ordering a dozen, I would order an extra 4-6 just to be safe. They arent cheap at $9.00 per dozen, but they are fresh, made to order, great fresh toppings and glazes that need to be accounted for vs. just price. They have Trickling Spring Dairy regular and chocolate milk too if you also want to taste some great farm fresh milk. You can sit down at one of the few tables with 2 chairs along the side of the counters, or just take them in your car and start eating them...:) Buy these donuts instead of 3 cupcakes for $9.00! There's more to go around for everyone, and they are delicious!

How much simpler could a donut be? Good quality donut batter is put into a donut robot which is on display in the front of the shop for all to see. The donut robot automatically makes the donuts and they pop out all warm and toasty, much to the delight of patrons (especially kids--and me, too--I was mesmerized!). The warm cake donut is then topped with a variety of simple, but sweet and tasty toppings. The shop is small, new, and very clean. There are a few tables for customers, but people usually don't stay too long, so you can find a seat. The crowd is a healthy mixture of college students, town residents, and--appropriately--local PA Dutchmen. Even if you're not into donuts, it's worth stopping by to chat with the friendly owners and watch the robot work its magic!

They make the cakey donuts fresh when you order them. There are some pretty wild and delicious flavors. All donuts have the same plain cake base and then are topped with different toppings. I tired the blueberry, s'mores and fluffernutter. They were all delicious. They were amazing warm and still delicious the next day. My son was crazy about the blueberry and is still talking about the purple donut days later. Purple's a fruit right?
