Not a huge fan, but will suffice if you're in a bind. I had tried them once before without much wow factor, but the owner has since changed and i figured I would give it another try. The cupcakes they offer seem to be the same flavors as before, with the addition of some seasonal ones like pumpkin, which I did end up getting and trying. The pumpkin cupcake itself was pretty good, but I'm not sure what's going on with the hard crusted top on all the cupcakes I have ever tried from them. Is that a style? If so I dont really care for it. The icing was too much and too sweet as usual, but the one saving factor was that the cupcake itself was tasty (minus the crust). The chocolate peanut butter was a disappointment, and I will never get it again. Weird fake sugar taste in my mouth moments after swallowing. Overall, not really a fan. Looks a lot better than it tastes, and at $3 each, no thanks. To me, "sugar" or "sweet" is not a valid flavor. More like "cavity"!

I've had some great cupcakes from here. The staff is nice and helpful. Like the punch card- buy 10 get 1 free. Every time I come in, there are always different yummy varieties to choose from.

I literally crave these cupcakes on a weekly basis. If only i was able to visit here more often. It's such a cute and clean little place and the staff is so friendly. I always get the peanut butter cup or cookie dough cupcakes and they're incredible! Best bakery in Jenkintown!

I only discovered this place when it opened up a cafe! I am primarily reviewing the cafe, but in the course of coming to the cafe I have tried numerous baked goods so I can talk about them as well. This cafe is awesome, and I think it is an incredible asset to the community in Jenkintown and the surrounding suburbs. I frequently came to this part of the world before I lived here (I now live here) and I want a place to hang out which is not Starbucks, where I can either converse with friends or work on my laptop. This place is great for both! The atmosphere is bright and cheerful. There's a little bar overlooking the street, with a nice window and a pleasant view. It's a calm setting that I think emphasizes the best of the small-town aspect of Jenkintown. There's a lot of colorful artwork on the wall, and I've liked the music they play in here too. The seating is practical. The only thing missing is a comfy sofa, which I think would be a big enhancement, but I see how they may not want a sofa given the space they have and the items they serve. The people who work here are SOOO nice and they are just awesome people with great senses of humor and intelligent and interesting, and many of them are talented musicians too! I also find it's a friendly atmosphere with a sort of neighborhood feel. People who come in here are really friendly too. I live in the city and I think this cafe is friendlier than any of the cafes I've been to in the city, in the sense that other customers in here strike up conversations with me much more often than happens in the city, and I like that a lot. This sort of thing could contribute to making me want to live here! Next comment...loose-leaf tea! YES! This place serves loose-leaf tea. I am not much of a coffee drinker but I love tea, and I love it when places use loose tea instead of tea bags. The brand they have chosen, Octavia Tea, is also very high-quality. I've tried three of their teas now, and I have enjoyed each of them. They tend to brew them on the strong side here, so if you like strong tea, just order tea, and if you like it milder, you might want to ask them when they brew it. I have been posting reviews of the teas on RateTea, a site I run which I describe as "the yelp of teas", as I sample them: ratetea.com/brand/octavi… Now for the baked goods...they are really really good! There's a wide range of offerings too, from quiche if you're in the market for a savory snack, to a variety of somewhat sweet offerings like scones, to cookies, and then cupcakes. There are simple, cheaper items (still very yummy) to more elaborate, high-end items. In short, I think there's something for most people's tastes. I really recommend checking out the new cafe! It is fantastic! It definitely has become my favorite cafe in the whole Philly area, and among my favorite places to hang out anywhere.

Delicious Vegan Cupcakes! We ordered a vegan cupcake tower for my birthday and they were a huge hit. The icing is amazing, and I enjoyed the different flavors. The lady at the counter was very nice and answered all of our questions. She herself is vegan and so I trusted that the vegan cupcakes would be good :) I'm sure all there products are great, but I am extremely impressed with the vegan cupcake assortment and would absolutely recommend them for a party or large occasion. Vegans and non-vegans alike will love them!

While I have celiac this place is amazing. I bought cupcakes for some friends for their birthdays and they loved them. The cakes look so fancy...i kinda wanna plan a fake wedding just to get one. I would recommend they do some gluten free options.

I feel like a traitor. I have a favorite bakery. It makes my favorite cupcakes. I've been getting cupcakes there since...birth. BUT my favorite bakery does not have KEY LIME PIE cupcakes, and Velvet Sky Bakery does. The people were very pleasant in bakery and the other cupcakes looked delicious as well. I may return tomorrow to try another. I'd love to try to apple pie cupcake but it looks like they only have those on Saturday or by special order. Still, I was excited to find the key lime pie, which tasted exactly like a key lime cupcake should taste. Why 4 stars? Even for a specialty cupcake, $3 is so excessive.

First of all, the best cappuccino I've had in ages. It brought me back to Italy. And then: My 11 yo son ordered a plain vanilla sprinkle cupcake that he could not finish so of course I had to taste it, wow, like wow, no wonder why he's saying his head is going to explode. So yummy. The frosting was light and sweet and could not just be licked off. You had to eat it with the cake part. And you know what? The cake part was actually good. And not just good to complement the frosting but good in its own right. In the case was Oreo cupcakes and peanut butter, both very tempting, next time.

This small town bakery has recently expanded to include a cafe. I went there recently and they were extremely busy...a good sign! Make sure you order ahead if you need more than just a few cupcakes (my fav is the cookie dough!) They also make amazing looking cakes. If you're in Jenkintown, make sure to stop by!

My review is primarily for the cafe. It is a delight. Precisely a clean, well-lighted place, with pleasant staff. The coffee is great. The bakery stuff is nice, too. It is just nice to be there. And real ceramic, not paper cups. Did I mention nice staff? I love this place, I go there several times a week.

This place is awesome! I called on Friday to learn about their gluten free options for a friend's birthday. Everyone, and especially Jordyn, was incredibly helpful! I ordered gluten/dairy-free cupcakes that were amazing! I will definitely be going back here for special (and not so special) orders again!

The cupcakes are off the hook good. Like best cupcakes you ever had good. Worth every penny good. Go here and get a salted caramel cupcake and a piping hot cup o joe and enjoy!

Great choice! Their baked goods are great, and their service is wonderful. I don't live in the immediate area, but if I did, I imagine this would easily become a weekly stop.

I haven't had a cupcake I didn't like. The Boston Creme is by far my favorite. Everyone in there greeted me with a friendly hello when I walked in. Will return for sure

Velvet Sky has now made the cakes and/or cupcakes for my Wedding, Son's Christening and Wife's 30th Birthday Party. Their different flavor cupcakes are awesome, I've gotten them multiple times and have never had a bad one or heard any complaints. My favorite is definitely the Chocolate Cupcake with Peanut Butter Icing. Also the Guinness with Baileys Icing is really different but pretty good. I would definitely recommend Velvet Sky if you need a custom bakery.

Love the Gluten-free cupcakes here! The icing is creamy and rich. I even froze the cupcakes and thawed them later- still delicious!

I love this place. I got cupcakes for my sister in law's bridal shower and they were fabulous and everyone loved them. I stop in all the time just for a treat for myself and/or for the hubby! My favorite is the chocolate raspberry.

This is the first review I have ever written. As a person that has a sweet tooth, I just had to let others know how bad my experience was with this place. My husband surprised me with a little 8 in diameter cake and 24 cupcakes for my birthday. When I saw the cake at my party, I was pleased...everything looked great. However, when I started to cut the cake, I noticed the fondant was not sticking to the cake...but I was still excited to eat it because it looked good. When I took the first bite, I was soooo disappointed! The cake was EXTREMELY dry, bland, and stale tasting. The icing wasn't bad, but the cake part of the cake and cupcakes was awful! No one at the party liked the cake or cupcakes...we couldn't even give it away! The next day, I called and spoke to the manager. I told her how bad the cake and cupcakes were and asked if everything was fresh. The manager told me the cake is made 1 - 2 days in advance and the cupcakes were made fresh daily. However, the cupcakes and cake were equally dry and stale tasting. I offered to drive the leftovers to the bakery repeatedly to prove my point but the manager didn't want to see the leftovers. A few days later, the manager called me back and said they stand by their product and offered me a gift card. The gesture was nice, but I declined because if a bakery can't make a decent cupcake, I highly doubt anything else would be good. And by the way, my husband paid $180 for a little cake, 24 cupcakes, and a cardboard cupcake stand. Don't waste your money, go to Sam's Club or Giant. If you still decide to try this place, go taste something first and ask that your items be made fresh, not days in advance.

Everything is delicious and beautiful. Perhaps too expensive to have everyday, but well worth the money for the occasional treat.

I had a Velvet Sky cupcake about 5-6 years ago and back then I was not a fan. I recently visited and either my taste buds, or the recipe has changed, because I enjoyed these cupcakes. My only complaint is that it does not seem they bake their cupcakes fresh on Sunday, as although the taste was great, the cupcake was quite stale.

  • Shirley Y.

I had their cupcakes twice, gifted from my friend. I had a chocolate one with a brownie and it was one of the best cupcakes I tried. It wasn't overpowering and the frosting was not just sugar but enhanced the cupcake. I also tried the raspberry one with vanilla cupcake. I didn't like the vanilla as it was a bit dry but the raspberry creme was good. I cannot wait to go there myself and treat myself!

Very quaint neighborhood bakery shop off of 611. Awesome selection of different flavor cupcakes. Made 2 large orders for parties, cupcakes are always on point. Reminds me of Georgetown cupcake in the sense it's gourmet $4 cupcakes. But they are very good. And the people who work there are very polite and helpful as well. Woulda gave it 5 stars if it wasn't so expensive tho.

I love their cupcakes!!! The have so many great flavors and toppings! My favorites include the Raspberry Lemonade, Mint Chocolate, and the Salted Caramel! These were all really great. I also ordered a cake for my husband's birthday which they designed to look like a cassette tape. It was brilliant and I was really impressed with the artistic aspect of the design. The cake itself was not exactly the best I've ever had, but I will say it was nearly completely devoured by my guests so perhaps I'm being too critical! What I will say is I love the fact that their cakes and cupcakes aren't too sweet and overpowering. From what I can tell all the adults absolutely adore their cakes.

They did hella job on our wedding this fall. Cupcake tower. 8 great flavors of mini-cupcake. A fool-the-eye two-layer decorated cake above. Delivery and pickup of the stand included. People loved them. Also: yum. Not planning to ever get married again. If I did, I would still go with Velvet Sky.

I ve only had the cupcakes, but I ve had them on three different occasions. They are so good and have lots of frosting. The cake is really good and also the range of flavors are great. I d like to try some of the ones listed in other reviews, but until then I ll savor the taste of the Intense chocolate that remains in my refrig.

Ordered an anniversary cake...vanilla/chocolate cake with salted caramel filling. Sent them a copy of the invite and the decorations on the cake matched perfectly. They delivered the cake to the party location too. Guests thought the cake was beautiful and delicious to boot. Definitely will keep them on speed dial for the next event!

Popped in today with my daughter as part of a "girly day" and got a half dozen to bring home and share with my husband. The shop was nice and clean and the staff was friendly. We have only sampled three and are thoroughly impressed! Can't wait until tomorrow to try the rest!!

Cup cake tasting for the wedding. Excellent!! I recommend.

  • Lisa S.

Not bad, but I've had better. Seems like they only have vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, and add the options through their filling and icing. No decorations on top other than a cookie or a piece of candy or fancy icing design. Wish they were more creative with their flavors. The potential is there.

I LOVE THEIR CUPCAKES!!!!!! They have so many different flavors and they even make it right away for you if you request something. My favorites are classic vanilla, caramel macchiato, and boston cream!! My work is right near it so I always have to get some before I leave!! They are reeeeally friendly and nice; I just love everything about the bakery!!! They now offer coffee and even soups!! I've ordered cake from them before and it just turned out perfect both times. Now I want a cupcake! Haha :)

They have pretty good gluten free cupcakes! Their icing is out of this world!!!! We ordered a few gluten free cupcakes for my celiac sister's baby shower. I enjoyed taste testing the g-free cupcakes, and she enjoyed them at her shower. We will be going there again for our gluten free cupcake needs

Lately, I have been craving sweets since my friend goes on and on about Red Velvet cupcakes. She claims she hates sweets and the only sweets she would eat are red velvet cupcakes, so I thought to myself DAMN! these must be some tasty cupcakes. So over the course of the month I've been looking pretty much everywhere for these special red velvet cupcakes. I even drove all the way to Crumbs in New York City for some red velvet cupcakes, unfortunately they were closed when I went, (not that big of a waste, I went to see the Fast and the Furious in Times Square so it wasn't too bad) Turns out there is a great cupcake place just a couple of miles from where I live in Jenkintown. I ordered two Red Velvets to go and it came out to 4.50 which isn't too bad considering I drove all the way to NYC for some (tolls + gas!) It must have been the hype and anticipation I had going into that first bite because when I ate the first of the two cupcakes I thought eh, its good but not amazing. Hours later I consumed the second of the cupcake that I bought. I thoroughly enjoyed the generous amount of rich, cream cheesy sweet icing on top with the moist red cake on the bottom. Aside from the food, the place was cute and small and the service was helpful and polite. Will be going back for more and trying some of their other flavors.

Love this bakery! Friendly people that make amazing cakes & cupcakes! We've gotten several specialty cakes and they always exceed our expectations! I highly recommend velvet sky bakery!

I got my daughter's birthday cake and cupcakes here a week ago. I am now craving more cupcakes! The cake is nice and buttery and the frosting is sweet but not too sweet. I will say the cupcakes seem to have too much frosting, I didn't know this was possible, so they need to be eaten with a fork. I tried stuffing one into my mouth and got frosting on my nose! They were so so good! We loved the birthday cake too. It was decorated pretty simply and I would have liked the colors to be a little more vibrant but overall it did look pretty. It tasted great! I must admit I was disappointed by overall look of Velvet Sky inside the bakery. The cupcakes looked so sad sitting in this huge display case, the walls were pretty bare except for photos of past cakes and it just looked empty. I expected it to look super cute inside, just like the outside, and it really wasn't. So there you have it, the decor is lacking but the flavor of the cakes and cupcakes make up for it. I'll be back!

Good businesses rarely exist in an age of struggling margins. I happened to be sitting across the street observing an older woman unfortunately digging through some recycling, I was never sure if she was homeless. Regardless, someone at Velvet saw the same woman and ran outside to give her a cupcake. It made my day. I saw some humanity and offered some money for the next time the woman came around. And in the same humbleness, they respectfully declined and thanked me. I don't know how good their pastries are but it wouldn't matter to me if it tasted like grass. I support good people always, good people are rare and should know they are gems.

heard soooo many great things about the place and was soooo disappointed when i took my niece there. they had hardly any selection and were a bit pricey for nothing special. bummer!

I love this place! Their cupcakes and specialty cakes are divine! I ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. It was beautiful and quite a hit with its edible flip flop. I also asked them to donate to a group that I run at the high school where I work. They were enthusiastic and responsive and baked up some delicious cupcakes to donate to our cause. What more can you ask for--delicious cupcakes with a conscience! Thank you lovely people!

Love this place! I recently ordered a dozen cupcakes for my mom's birthday - 6 regular and 6 gluten-free because my mom has celiac. Best gluten-free cupcakes ever! Seriously. Most GF cupcakes are chalky or grainy or way too sweet, but these were perfect. The regular ones were great too. The bakery recently expanded to include a cafe, and the whole place is super cute. I will be returning for sure!

I was in the neighborhood and had heard rave reviews about their red velvet cupcakes. Was not sure what to think, pictured channeling of my inner Elvis. Mmmm...velvet! All that hype and no velvet of any kind was to be found. They go by three price points depending on the kind of cupcake you desire. I chose a vanilla for my short person, an Oreo baked into a vanilla cupcake with chocolate Oreo frosting, had my coworker smiling with glee. Mind you it was only 3pm but it was slim pickins, so an old school plain chocolate cupcake was for me. The service was prompt, the smell-a-nator was like a pre-cupcake euphoria and the actual cupcake was aesthetically pleasing but was way too dense for my taste. Will try again sometime for the velvet fantasy. Maybe a better place to call ahead?

This is my fave bakery of all time! Last week I got a 12 pack of cupcakes in delicious red velvet with cream cheese icing, some strawberry/strawberry frosted, 2 carrot cake, 2 chocolate with Oreo icing, and a chocolate with cinnamon sugar icing. They are all so good! Unlike some other places, when you buy your cupcakes here they have a great packaging system that doesn't cause the icing to slide off and you can easily slide your fingers in the sides to pull the cake out easily. I've seen their full sized cakes but never had one, I'm thinking for ordering one specially made for my bday in January. I wonder if they can make one in the shape of a horse...?

I got the cupcake sampler for my sons birthday. What a great idea! Everyone picked a "special" favorite. Will definitely go back!

My co-worker brought a bunch of these to my going-away at work. They are amazing, and I don't even like cake! There is a lot of frosting but it's not too sweet and the consistency is nice. The cake is light and fluffy but dense enough to hold it's own against the frosting. I love the mint! AND they are so pretty to look at!

I love Velvet Sky, every time I visit my sister in Doylestown I go to velvet sky first and I pick up a six pack of cupcakes - then I start sending cupcake pictures to her phone, which she loves. I also really enjoy the staff. the owner is very cool and I always have a good experience. I've seen some of their custom cakes and they look great. there's a parking lot across the street - one quarter for an hour of parking.

I always hate when I read about somewhere being a "hidden gem" or "this town's best kept secret," but I"m going to totally jump the shark and use these terms to describe Velvet Sky Bakery. This is home, sweet home for cupcake connoisseurs like myself. They have it all, from the classic chocolate / vanilla combos (with or without sprinkles) to unique flavors such as Oreo, peppermint, raspberry and lemon. The icing is perfection - it's creamy and light and not overwhelmingly sweet like the overhyped Magnolia Bakery cupcakes. The cake is moist and fluffy and tastes homemade. In fact, all Velvet Sky cupcakes are made fresh with all natural, high quality ingredients. They're so yummy that you 'll never be able to eat another cheap supermarket cupcake again!

  • Susanne J.

I love cake. It's a problem. Luckily, I don't pass by this little bakery too often. Their red velvet made my week. My only complaint? A little less icing perhaps. Sometimes my teeth veritably ache after one of these little beauties.

  • Nat M.

I had always wanted to check this cute little bakery out for a while, and was glad that I had a chance to do so while running an errand in the neighborhood. There was a wide variety of cupcakes to choose from; I had a hard time deciding what to get, so I got 7 cupcakes! The staff was so friendly, helpful, and patient with all my questions. All the cupcakes that we have tried so far were delicious. My two-year-old son ate half of a cupcake in a mere two minutes. Well, his birthday is coming up this summer... I think we're going back for his birthday cake:)

  • M M.

The cupcakes are pretty good here. I would describe their cupcakes as light, fluffy, and moist with a good icing to cake ratio of 1:3. I ordered 4 for 9.00 which was reasonably price given the slightly larger cupcake size. The one staff member who was there was friendly. The red velvet was light and did not have that typical heavy richness that red velvets typically have which i thought was unique. The cream cheese icing was delicious and plentiful. The vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing with chocolate sprinkles was also good and had that lightness to the cake. I wish it had more sprinkles. The strawberry icing with chocolate cake was surprisingly delicious, one of my new favorites. The strawberry icing was very good. The vanilla oreo cupcake was good. it was also light and fluffy. Didn't really taste like oreo. The cakes on display looked really cool, like something that would be on Ace of Cakes. Hopefully, I will try them again

  • Jason W.

I used to love this little bakery. But somewhere in the course of time they really cut back on the size of their cupcakes and jacked the prices up to an abnormally high amount. I know it is located in "posh" Jenkintown, but I will not be making trips from central Montgomery county to purchase their cupcakes again. Sorely disappointed, $3 for a small cupcake is steep when for twice as much I can get a decent full size cake elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Austine C.

I love Velvet Sky like a fat kid loves cake. $12 for 6 cupcakes is the daily special. Icing is thick, rich, and perfectly sweetened (as opposed to Magnolia's which is uber sweet). The cake is moist and dense. Personally, I liked the Banana Vanilla cake and the Chocolate Raspberry. Forget NYC, get your cake on at Velvet Sky. Go ahead, you deserve it.

The cupcakes are a fun thing to take along when someone's having you over. I'm just not sure you can count on them to actually have cupcakes available. I've been there twice early on Saturday afternoon and they were essentially out of cupcakes (which is the only thing they sell!). I think the business is really focused on catering and the retail side is secondary. But they are good cupcakes and you should give them a try.

I had stopped going to this place for a while because I thought that the prices did not match the quality of the product, but I went on Saturday to get a dozen cupcakes for my son's birthday and both him & I agree that the cupcakes were much better than they had been in the past and then I found out that they switched owners so that may be the cause for the change in price and taste. I will start going more often and the coupon from yelp softens the blow of the price.

Their cupcakes are heavenly! They have so many different flavors but be warned... they give you tons of icing, which is one of my favorite things about them! If cupcakes are your thing, then I would definitely go out of your way to try Velvet Sky. You won't be disappointed!

Wow!!! Really truly amazing cakes and cupcakes!! We contacted the new owner Jordan to discuss cake ideas for my sons 2nd birthday and the end results were better than I couldve imagined!! Thomas was our theme and the cake was ridiculously cute and all the cupcakes were decorated with different colors and faces to be Thomas and his other train friends. It's been a week since we picked up the cake and it still tastes amazing and fresh. Jordan was great and worked with us and our budget. Will will definitely recommend her and velvet sky to everyone!!

This is a really cute cupcake place! I love their peanut butter and chocolate cupcake!!! I got there just when they were about to close so there werent much of a selection but regardless whatever i got were really good. This is my 2nd favorite cupcake place in philly. ( first still being brown bettys!)

Velvet Sky's cookies are the best I've ever had. They were chocolate chip oatmeal pecan-apparently the perfect balance of each. I can't wait to try their other varieties!

An adorable, coffee shop/bakery with a mix of artwork, rustic tables and bar top, and friendly staff. The macchiato is a true macchiato (espresso with a dollop of cream), which the staff kindly pointed out and inquired if I wanted a "Starbucks-style" macchiato with milk (whole, soy, or almond) and a drizzle of caramel. The result was a far better caramel macchiato than Starbucks produces--likely better beans, and not overly sweet. An assortment of muffins, scones, cupcakes, cookies, and bars tempted. I chose a banana walnut muffin with some trepidation, as often non-homemade muffins are sickly sweet. I was pleasantly surprised to bite into a moist muffin (don't!) that tasted much like my own banana bread (i.e., just the right amount of sweetness). The clientele seems varied: fathers with their under-10 kids, couples designing wedding cakes, families getting hiking treats, teens picking up cupcake orders for graduation parties, etc. This shop definitely seems to be a neighborhood gathering space. Ps. A small park across the street is perfectly situated for enjoying the outdoors along with your splurges.

Love Velvet Sky! It's such a cute little shop that is great whether you want to stay in or take out. Every cupcake that I've had has been incredible! The red velvet and Boston cream are my favorites (and I don't usually like Boston cream!). The staff has always been friendly and offered excellent service. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that the drinks aren't so great. The chai tea latte is more milk than anything else and had very little chai taste to it. Definitely worth checking out for the cupcakes!

Such a great shop! Jordan is so accommodating, helpful and really brings an idea to life. My friend is gluten free and wanted a cake for her baby shower. We went in with her theme (Dr.Seuss) and stressed the gluten free aspect and we left totally happy with all gluten free cupcakes and a cake! Jordan allowed us to sample the gluten free chocolate cupcake and it was SO good! I have had their "regular" cupcakes before so of course I had to pick up more while I was there. The chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes are amazing! I can't wait to see my friends baby shower cake and cupcakes! Thank you Velvet Sky! I will recommend again and I will also use your bakery again.

Did a great job, exactly the picture I showed them!! Just a little on the pricey side.

Ordered an anniversary cake. Cake was a chocolate chip vanilla layer cake with buttercream icing. Cake was close to $70. Decorations were beautiful. Cake was stale. Tasted like it was several days old. Chips were centered at the top and bottom of the cake. Needed a serrated knife to cut through the fondant on the top. Needless to say we were very disappointed and this was a special anniversary. A small $70 cake should not be inedible.

Whenever I try a different bakery or cupcakery, my first priority is the red velvet cupcake. If they can't make a good red velvet cupcake, you've already lost me. Velvet Sky has a very moist and flavorful red velvet cupcake. The cake almost melts in your mouth. I would have given it four stars if it were not for the icing. The icing is too thick and too sweet for my taste. I had to scrape some of it off because I am confident I would be bouncing off the walls had I decided to eat all of it. Overall, the cupcake was good and when I'm in the area, I'll definitely return. They have a nice selection of other cupcakes, as well as cookies and brownies. It's definitely a place to go if you have a sweet tooth.

Led here by the Yelp Nation, we discovered a temple of frosted deliciousness. Admittedly, I do not eat cake or cupcakes, so this review relies on the opinions of Mr. M and the countless cupcake lovers in our life. We have served Velvet Sky's cupcakes numerous times to discerning cupcake eaters (including devotees of famous cupcake houses like Crumbs and Magnolia as well as other locally-owned cupcake bakeries) and these repeatedly have been proclaimed superior. The cupcakes are beautiful, with a generous quantity of buttercream frosting on top. Happily, they also travel well (based on numerous deliveries via train to Center City). We have ordered custom cakes from Velvet Sky, and they have always produced a meticulously crafted product for us. Worthy of your consideration!

Sticky Buns! Most people know Velvet Sky is famous for cakes and cupcakes. They are works of art! But they also make what I think is the city's best Sticky Bun. Very rich and sweet! Right now they're only made on Saturdays, so you can't start every day with one, though you might want to. Pair one up with one of their great coffees and you've started your weekend right.

For people with a sweet tooth, Velvet Sky Bakery & Café will be a favorite stop for them. Velvet Sky is a really nice café on the town square in Jenkintown. There are tables inside and out on the sidewalk. They serve savory items as well and a lunch menu. People order their decorated cakes for special occasions.. But it is their cupcakes and the many varieties that they bake for which they are most well known. I'm not a huge cupcake eater but even I have to admit that the classic Red Velvet cupcake was pretty tasty!

Love their cupcakes. I like the mint chocolate chip and my fiancé likes the salted caramel. I'm bias towards mint and she is biased towards salted caramel though so it works out. Sometimes they don't have some flavors so you should call in to see what they have that day or look online or else you may be disappointed when you get there. The staff is super nice and I go here for cupcakes whenever I feel like surprising my fiancé. They are $3 for cupcakes and if you ask them for a candle they provide one for you. I don't know about their other items because I only get cupcakes from here but they're worth the time (:

One of the worst experiences I had dealing with this bakery .. Worst cake ever made in the history of baking ... I had a cake made for a kids birthday that they charged 100$ for which I was happy to pay as long as it was awesome .. But not so much no one enjoyed the cake as it was so dry and basically tasteless ... I called the owner to let them know that the cake I received didn't taste good at all and that no one ate the birthday cake ... The only thing I heard from her was that she was sorry we didn't enjoy the cake and was not willing to refund the cake even after I told her I would bring the cake to show it to her !! I guess the Philly magazine was wrong by saying they were one of Philly best bakery So basically if u order a cake from them u are in for a surprise if not a good one they are just sorry about that !!!!

We had cupcakes and a cake topper made for our mixtape/book themed wedding and they were delicious! The staff is friendly, excellent, and willing to work with you. They even made a couple vegan apple cupcakes for us. Everyone loved the cupcakes! Thanks for enhancing our special day! We definitely recommend Velvet Sky! We visited their new cafe and it's cozy and beautiful. The treats and coffee are really tasty!

I'll start by saying that the blueberry pear pie I enjoyed on Thanksgiving was delicious.. Just the right amount of sweetness, lovely texture and beautiful crust.. Having taken a pie making workshop I understand the art of making a good crust.. Velvet Sky nailed it! Today I wandered in to use my Yelp Deal and was so glad I did.. The atmosphere was relaxed and warm.. Great music playing.. The southwest tomato black bean soup had nice chunks of tomato and comforting broth with fresh corn and black beans.. I'll definitely continue supporting this small business!

Poor service. My family was treated terribly by the lady behind the counter. The cupcakes were stale and the ice latte was just a big cup of cold milk with sugar. Over priced and rude. Stay away

First time here for a birthday cake for my other half. Stopped in to pick up a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing. Before leaving, tried the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. The cupcake and icing was amazing. Walked out confident. Thought I was bringing home the same quality cake. Sorry to say that it crumbled like sand. Dry as the dessert. Icing was good, cake not so much. Stick to the cupcakes at this place. Horrible feeling when everyone has this, "why are we eating this dry cake" look on their face. Embarrassed, since it was my wife's birthday and I thought I was doing something nice by going to this place. If they make good I may change my POV on this review, but for now I think 2 stars is a stretch at this point. Would have been 5 if I had only just had the cupcake. What a shame.

I love trying cupcakes everywhere and I have my favorite spot but it's in NYC and DC and too far to drive for a cupcake. This place is the closest I've come to that place. That bent said, while the flavor is typically fantastic (not too sweet) the cake falls apart. It seems moist enough, but it's not thick enough to hold up. I'll go back, but I'll make sure I eat w a plate

Love it here! My biggest issue is now I have to control myself because I would be eating here every day if I could!

Wow, this place has changed since I was last here. They have expanded big time. You can now purchase more than just cupcakes......they are good, but now cost $3 a piece. The cookies at $1 a piece were a much better deal. This is a nice place, and if you have a yen for a cupcake, surely stop by.

Stopped for lunch. Limited menu. Had soup, a small quiche, coffee and a scone. Food was kind of bland, not horrible, just not a lot of flavor. Scone was great. Coffee was luke warm, but they made a fresh put and replaced it. Lots of desserts to choose from, which look really good.

Even better now that they have a coffee shop that serves Counter Culture coffee. There is no other coffee shop like it locally and I stop here several times a week for my morning cup. They also have muffins, scones and other breakfast times. Staff is friendly and the owners are very nice people.

Best cupcakes in Philly. For sure. I got my wedding cupcakes here and they did the MOST amazing job. They tasted on top of this world too. I wish there was a Velvet Sky on every corner so I could get more of them. Their Oreo, vanilla, peanut butter, red velvet, etc are all amazing. The icing melts in your mouth. Fan for life - don't change a thing guys!

Amazing. I plan on getting every party cake here from now on as well as my future wedding cake. Everything is incredibly fresh and made on-site. They have gluten free options which is a HUGE plus. I regret not trying their coffee/espresso because it smelled amazing. If you have not been, you must go immediately.

I'm updating this review after 5 years and 2-3 owners later. Positives I love how they've reconfigured the place - so bright and welcoming with the eat in tables, espresso coffee drinks and expanded items like quiche and muffins for sale. The staff was very nice. Negatives The cupcakes are no longer out of the world delicious - guess they didn't sell the recipe with the place. We found them smallish, way overly sweet icing and some were dry - not "special" at all. Also their drip coffee was not good. I guess the original owners were not marketing/merchandising experts but they were excellent bakers with one awesome product and with the new owners the reverse is happening? I won't be buying any more cupcakes but I might give a muffin a shot next time I'm in the neighborhood - it's a really cute place.

I really wanted to like this place. I tried a cupcake here several months ago on a whim and I thought it was a little dry. Fast forward to today. I decided to give it another try and went in to order a cake after reading all the great reviews. The baker was busy so while I waited I decided to purchase a cupcake while I waited to see for myself if I had misjudged earlier since everyone else seems to like it there. Not only did the baker never come out, the cupcake was DRY and then I found a HUGE HAIR in the icing. I told the cashier and all he said is its probably one of the bakers. He didn't even offer me a refund or another cupcake (not that I would have wanted it). I will not be returning!!!
