Great food. Been there three times already and have yet to be disappointed. By far the best places to eat in the area. Bacon wrapped scallops a must.

Sausage buffets and excellent german food. The sausages and meats they make are sold at wegman's as well who only serve top grade products. Have had some terrible German style food and this place is pretty authentic. The pig knuckle is a giant plate of exactly that, smoked and then braised or hours. A real treat and something out of the ordinary

Restaurant and general store (with winery) all in one! The store allows you to purchase goods, both fresh and dry, to cook at home. Items include their own cured and smoked meats, sausages, etc. Rare meat cuts can also be found in the store. You can stop by and shop the store without dining at the restaurant. Check out their food events that they hold throughout the year for family fun. The food itself is a good representation of German cuisine. It is a one of a kind in the area. I do not know of another German restaurant within a 1-2 hr radius of Honesdale, unless you are closer to a major city. I dined with the family and I know that I was jealous of their dishes. The pig knuckles were excellent - a special item that they serve frequently; the sausage sampler is a great 1st choice as well. It gives you an opportunity to try multiple German sausages made on the property. I had the pork medallions wrapped with bacon. The pork was slightly overcooked towards the dry side. I will try another item next time. Another party member had the ribs. They were cooked perfectly, however it veered towards the salty side. It is a great atmosphere for family and friends. Kick back, relax, and enjoy a few drinks and good food. I will definitely return. Enjoy!

Came here last night for dinner. It's best to go hungry! Although the prices are steep compared to other restaurants in the vicinity, it is definitely worth it because the great food quality and portions. For approximately $20, I got the jaeger schnitzel which was deep fried pork (tastes very similar to donkatsu if you ever had that) which came with two sides. Now the meal comes with two sides of your choice. I had the spätzle (German pasta) with cheese- which our delightful server forgot to inform me of the $2 charge for the extra cheese. It was very good tho. Our server also forgot to tell me that it's $2 extra to change to soup other than the daily soup. But it's ok. I forgive him because he was dressed so stylishly. Food was extremely flavorful and fresh. Will definitely go again if I'm ever in the area.

AMAZING!!! Better than the UES of Manhattan, Yorkville, a turn of the century German immigrant haven, that once boasted several great German restaurants. Sadly only one remains in the UES, the Heidelberg, and Alpine blows them away. Alpine has some of the best wurst I have ever had. My husband is in love with weiner schnitzel. Their red cabbage is so fantastic, and the potato pancakes are solid. Please don't forget to enjoy a marvelous Franziskaner with lemon, YUM!! It really rounds out the whole experience. Honestly, if you are in this area you really should give this place a try!

Simply fantastic. I've been here a 1/2 dozen times so far and every time has been wonderful. I've brought my parents, and my in-laws here and we always leave full and happy. The service is always with a smile. It really is that good.

Excellent service, delicious food and great prices. Would recommend the bratwurst platter with sauerkraut and spätzle. Wish they had a location in NYC!

Love the restaurant ! Wonderful service, great food, and reasonable prices. Great selection of beers. If you ask your server, she will recommend a beer to compliment your meal order. Excellent servers. All are friendly, fast, and helpful. Attached is the butcher shoppe. Excellent selection of meats and prepared German specialties. Good selection of German chocolates too. The only thing lacking is customer service. The older employee at the register ignores you and seems annoyed when she finally serves you. I can't understand why a person lucky enough to work in such a sweet place like this should be so sour.

My friends have been talking about Alpine for years and I finally got to experience it with them. We arrived just after 7 pm on a Thursday and were concerned that we might not be able to get the buffet because it closes at 7:30. Our waitress assured us we had plenty of time and if they were going to close the buffet she would come and let us know if we should stock up before before all the German deliciousness was gone. She was pleasant and very attentive to us. The buffet was everything you could hope for in a Wurst and Meat house. 3 different types of sausages, sauerkraut, warm German potato salad, ribs that were absolutely delightful, and a cole slaw that I fell in love with (my friend said "You really love that cole slaw don't you") along with other sides. The decor of the restaurant was very authentic although I did comment on the Mario Andretti poster. (didn't know he was German). 3 out of the 4 of us chose the buffet as our meal while our fourth diner chose a bowl of warm German potato salad and lox with cream cheese. She had this meal before and was absolutely in love with it. She was not disappointed this time either. Dessert was a lovely selection and we all chose something to take home. I chose a blueberry tort and it was really tasty. My other friends chose the apple strudel, chocolate covered cheesecake balls, and what my one friend called a German cannoli all of which were delicious and highly recommended by our waitress. We weren't able to check out the store and deli since both were closed by the time we finished our meal, but I will definitely try to check them out the next time I visit.

I love this place, my mother relocated to PA. We were driving by I talked my friends into stopping for early dinner, my friend had the all you can eat. Everything including sides were unbelievable. I ordered the pork chops they were lightly seasoned perfect. My other friend had the salmon so good. We also had three different desserts. Rice pumpkin pudding, a light cream and cake the waitress recommend we try and chocolate filled truffle type sorry for not knowing exact desserts. All three were so good we could not pick a favorite. Our waitress was knowledgeable of every thing on the menu, friendly and professional Lisa was our waitress. After we went into the shop again I can not express how good everything looked as well as how clean it was. We ended up buying cakes to coffee to a hand creme I love the smell. The wine store was closed I will be back to purchase a bottle or two. This is over a 2 hour drive from New York we are already planning to go back. My compliments to the chef I believe is a women. Staff was very welcoming as well. I have eaten at many NY restaurants and have been very satisfied, but never have I enjoyed the dinner, desserts, service, atmosphere. Thank you for enjoyable dinner.

Great service and very good food. The waitress was very attentive and checked in on us at every step of the meal. The sauerbraten was very good and a good sized portion. Potato pancakes were also excellent. The deli/butcher shop was also very nice and we bought some items after the meal. I would definitely eat here again.

I have never eaten here so this review is for the deli section - and what a deli section it is! Fresh sausage, delicious kielbasa, incredible homemade sauerkraut and all sorts of wonderful German foods just make this place a pleasure to be in. The aroma is heavenly and the counter people are efficient and knowledgeable. The prices are higher on products that can be purchased elsewhere but for what you can't buy elsewhere this is the place to shop! Their Christmas advent calendars are an excellent price and come with German chocolate - one piece for each of the 25 days before Christmas! Get 'em for the kids!

We went here at Christmas time to hear a very famous zither player. We were pleasantly surprised by the great food, butcher shop and small wine tasting store all at the same location. We had a long drive there and back but it was worth the trip. The restaurant was very authentic and the music by the zither player was heavenly. We will go back again next Summer when they have their famous Oktoberfest. Prost!

The butcher shop is fantastic. The prices are reasonable for what you get, but don't expect supermarket prices, (or supermarket meat). The butchers can help you with ANYTHING you want and even have cooking suggestions if you're not certain how to cook something. The rest of the store has everything European. Don't miss the discount rack. I discovered some Granny Smith Apple/ Sugar wafer cookies that I now can't live without. The breads...better than anywhere else for miles. The restaurant is extremely good and lunch especially is a bargain. The wait staff is always willing to substitute anything that you would want, if what comes on the side doesn't interest you. The chicken cutlet is always too much for me to eat and I get a second meal to take home. They serve a bread basket with a dinner meal, and I always have that finished before the meal even arrives. I took some exchange students who come to the area on visas, to work the local hotels for the summer. They were complaining that the resorts and local supermarkets didn't have the type of food they were used to. They LOVED this place. They bought bread and other items to take back to the hotel, so they could enjoy more of the same food later. The students were Romanian, Hungarian and Czech. The items went by different names, so I ordered for them, as I am Ukrainian and knew the types of things that they would like. We just filled the table with everything and shared. They kept saying, "Oh, my Mother makes this...but we never get this much meat from her!" So that about says it all. It's home cooking and you get a big portion. There is another shop included with this place, and it's got some authentic German items that you can give as gifts or even gift to yourself. Finally...they offer butchering services. Whether you need your deer butchered or you want something smoked, (we raise and butcher our own pig and had them smoke a shoulder, some hocks and they made some bacon also), they do a GREAT job. The rate for this is also very reasonable. This place is Vunderbar!!! (I wish my German spelling was better...but you get the idea.)

My husband always buys his meat from the store & it is excellent! We have even had our deer meat processed there on several occasions. It is a little more expensive than some places for this, but well worth it for the quality. We have had dinner there several times. The dinners are reasonable & the food is very good.

What a great lunch experience. We drove about 30 minutes for lunch and it was definitely worth it. Three in our group had the sausage platter, all of which were very very good and I had the lunch portion of sauerbraten which was a very nice portion for the price. The sides were great as well, especially the tangy red cabbage and German potato salad. The service was very attentive, if not a little overbearing with clearing our dishes...let me at least chew the last bite of food before snatching it up! I might even give the restaurant five stars, but the market was incredibly slow. Sausages were so good at lunch we decided to buy some variety packs in the deli before leaving. We stood and stood and stood waiting to pay and finally grabbed a deli number just to ensure we'd eventually be able to purchase our sausages. After awhile someone finally acknowledged us and noted we didn't need a deli number if not getting something specially cut and we just needed to pay. Finally after 15 minutes standing at the counter/register we were able to pay for our sausages and all was right with the world. It was busy, but there needs to be some sort of organization as we weren't the only ones standing around to give them our money. Definitely hit this spot though if you're in the area...maybe go buy your deli items while you're waiting for your food in the restaurant (especially if you're in a hurry.)

Wiernersnitzel was just OK German potato salad bland and tasteless, Goulash soup tasted like Campbells. No bread served.....It's like that they're serving German food to people who don't know what good German food supposed to taste like..

I had the sausage buffet and it was delicious, there wasn't a huge choice of dishes, but I left there stuffed. It was very reasonable for an all you can eat buffet. I will definitely be coming back!

Great food. Got the sampler platter. It was fantastic. I have since been to the alpine two more time to get every type of non standard lunch meats. The corse liverwurst is very tasty and goes well on rye with Swiss.

My family has been coming to the Alpine house restaurant for about 25 years and we always have a good experience. I usually get Weiner schnitzel with potato pancakes and red cabbage. It's always nicely cooked and tastes great. Mom usually enjoys the sauerbraten and dad and my wife usually wind up with well cooked steaks. My grandfather is obsessed with their goulash soup. The bread basket is filled with authentic German selections, and dessert is good too. Tried my wife's cheeseburger not too long ago and it was surprisingly good. Prices are reasonable and you get alot for the money. The only compliant is that they're not open very late only till 9pm on sat night.

All the employees were very nice,,,,I do like the products, but I'm used to what I get in NY....I would go back, but only if I'm in the area. The 1st time I went there, I drove over 20 miles.

I have patronized the deli before and have been basically satisfied with the house-made products. Hubby and I tried lunch today and HATED IT! Took about 15 minutes to receive our drinks (during a horrendous heat wave). The waitress in training was very sweet but we had to wonder if the kitchen was hazing her, as it took 40 minutes for our burger and sandwich to come out and she was obviously trying. Although we ordered the soup for $4.75 and a round of drinks was $9.00, they wanted to charge $3. to share the burger, a practice I find outdated and frankly usurious. Not to be unkind, but we don't want to eat like or look like the morbidly obese " regulars". I inquired about the soup and half sandwich. Of the five soups, only two were eligible for this deal. WHAT?? What else about MY experience do you want to control? Hubby's burger was good, but the $12. steak sandwich I settled on was absolutely revolting. The onions and canned mushrooms were dripping with the kind of nasty grease used in cheap diner kitchens. It pooled on the plate, saturated the bread and dripped on my clothing. When I declined to eat it or pay for it, the "manager", who was approximately half my age, dropped by the table to instruct me regarding the fattiness of that cut of meat. Wow, inconvenient and condescending-what more could a gal want? Really a shame, because the decor is cute and the servers try hard.

Bratwurst, red cabbage, mashed potato, German potato salad, and great German Beer!! This is the place to go for amazing food that is priced right. The owners have gone to amazing lengths to surround you with authentic German culture, right down to the music playing in the background. If you are around stop in for the Octoberfest...beer, bands and BBQ!

Friendly service, great appetizers and dessert, wonderful hot cider. but the main courses were a bit too thick and fatty for me. However, considering it's German food, this should be expected. I just wish that dinner had had some vegetables with it.

I was really torn about my feelings for this place. I loved the butcher shop/store area, but I wasn't so crazy about the restaurant. First, the good: The butcher shop was great. They had lots of different types of meats (some standard, some unusual) and lots and lots of sausages and smoked meats. The butcher was great. We wanted to buy the same smoked pork chops that my mother had for dinner but the ones in the case didn't look the same, so he happily cut us new chops that were more like the cut served for dinner. They were also very reasonably priced for how yummy they are. The rest of the store is cute - lots of German and European products (non-perishable types) that aren't common in regular grocery stores. They also have several deli salads available and a nice selection of dessert items. Everyone in the store was very friendly even if there were "You break it, you bought it" signs every 2 feet! The restaurant was charming, lots of knick knacks everywhere, and servers were very nice. I decided to go with a traditional German dish (of which there were surprisingly few on the menu.) The menu seemed to feature their vast selection of meats over traditional German foods. That being said, this restaurant is not very vegetarian friendly. There were a few appetizers (seafood) and one flounder dish on the menu and one tilapia special, so the vegetarian in our party was quite limited in his choices. Each entree was served with soup or salad. The soup was homemade, but seemed like it wasn't freshly made. We were there on a Sunday and the restaurant closes early on Sunday and is closed Monday, so I'd assume they use up/stretch out what's left rather than make new stuff. My sauerbraten left a bit to be desired. I thought it was going to wow me, but it was just some slabs of pot roast in a ton of "gravy". It looked sloppy and was very bland. It wasn't terrible, but it's not something I'd order again. My boyfriend got weiner schnitzel and its presentation was very sad. An over (deep)friend piece of veal, alone, on a plate with some parsley. He said it was very bland and dry. It seems that the "German" selections were not the way to go, because everyone else really enjoyed their meals. My mother got the smoked port chop which was delicious, and father and grandmother got the duck, also very good, and my grandfather got the tilapia which he seemed to enjoy. I'd definitely recommend you stay away from the sauerbraten and the schnitzel and go for some of the other items (although the pork chop was amazing - and is available for purchase from the butcher shop!)

In my family, growing up, it was a birthday tradition for my mom to go to the Alpine and get 6+ slices of their various cakes, make strong tea and stronger coffee, and we'd sit around the table (ahem, singing the carpenter's birthday song..) each person picking one flavor, and then we'd all trade bites of eachothers', secretly gloating that our own choice had been best.

    (4)
  • Beatrice W.

Absolutely one of the best butcher shop I have ever encountered. The Alpine offers the best of everything, only the highest quality of beef, chicken but also an impressive selection of ostrich, buffalo, rabbit and other game in season. They have their own smokehouse in the back building and their smoked meat and German delicacies are amazing. The service is friendly and helpful and it can get quite busy on weekends. If you are a meat lover and enjoy German specialties, the restaurant attached to the store is a treat.
