Pleasant and personal. I read up on the reviews of restaurants in town and this one came in highly-rated. Everyone raved about the calamari, but it was not the best I've ever had. When it comes to texture, it was a bit on the soggy side. I prefer calamari to be crispy. The sauce, however, it was quite good, and complemented the calamari perfectly. I ordered the scallops, which came with mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables. The best part where the vegetables! Roasted to perfection, and seasoned with a delightful herbal mix, they were my favorites. The scallops were ok, and the potatoes were quite good as well. Since I was there with my family, we ordered each of the desserts, and shared. The crème brûlée was a bit bland, the cheesecake was an excellent take on the standard, the Keylime pie was fantastic, but the winner was the chocolate cake! Dear Lord! If you like rich chocolate desserts, this one is for you. Excellent! Service was kind.

The place didn't look like much from the outside, inside was cozy. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly

I'm saddened to leave a review for this place with such a low rating. Before it was flooded, the food and service were both exceptional. I had reservations Saturday night and we were seated right away. However, our table was right next to the bar and there were people walking around us all evening. The appetizer and salads came out quickly, but we waited over 30 minutes for our entrees. While my mom & I were in the bathroom, they asked the rest of our party to move the table to make room for a band. During dinner, we had no water refills and our alcoholic beverages were empty. I asked for a box twice. A few of us had ordered desserts, but after sitting another 35 minutes, we told the waitress to cancel those orders and bring our checks. The experience of having a fine dining meal was horrible here this night. You couldn't relax with people constantly bumping into your chair. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the food was excellent. The fried calamari was some of the best I've had--perfectly fried and in a light garlic sauce. My filet was tender and flavorful. My husband got the barramundi and it was a fantastic piece of fish. My brother got the duck and we were also pleasantly surprised with the results--beautifully crisp skin and a delicious orange sauce. If the service had been up to par, this would have been five stars. If you decide to dine here, make sure you are seated in one of the dining rooms.

We were visiting from out of town and happened to find this place. They accommodated our large party (11 people) easily and could not have been easier to deal with. The food was very good. I had a strip steak and lobster tail. They were both excellent. My husband had a shrimp dish that he raved about. The previous poor reviews seem completely unfounded to me - the place was clean, the food was great and the service was outstanding. We'll be back.

My husband and I and another couple had dinner last night. It was absolutely delightful. The ambiance was warm and inviting and we felt right at home. Our server was charming. More important than the wonderful atmosphere was the fabulous food. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms appetizer to share. Delicious, cooked perfectly, with a balance of spice and savory. 2 of us ordered the duck a ' la orange, 2 the broiled scallops. Both dishes presented beautifully. The scallops were seared to perfection, fresh and tasty. The duck was delicious, the sauce a perfect balance of sweet and tart, the duck tender, skin crisp, and the portion more than generous. We choose a delightful wine to accompany our dinners. We would all recommend this restaurant , it's a little bit out of the way, but more than worth the short trip from Harrisburg or ghe surrounding Hershey area.

Great steaks and martinis. We have been there several times and have had delicious meals every time. Friendly staff, clean, intimate atmosphere. Off the beaten path but worth the drive.

Terrible dining experience. We had a 6:00 dinner reservation. Arrived a few minutes early and had a drink while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. We were by the Bar and the owner told my friend to sit down or get out of the way. Btw this is now 6:30. 7 we finally got seated and then the waitress was not aware we were her table no food hit till 7:30-45ish. Good Food, Owner seemed alitte Rude did give us 10% off but for the amount of time we waited I would have liked ALITTLE more interest from the manager. I doubt I would return.

The service was terrible: server was impolite and disappeared for long intervals, but we were forced to tip 15% anyway because gratuity was included; maybe that's why the server didn't care about us! Chairs were dirty. Food was ok but not worth the price: $30 for entree with no soup or salad; also not kid-friendly menu.

Went there last night for a nice dinner with my boyfriend, and as we were leaving we both commented on how we can't wait to go back again! Excellent service, everyone was very pleasant. Food was absolutely fantastic! We started with the soup of the day, which was their famous elk meat chili... hands down the best chili I have ever eaten! Excellent flavor and the meat was cooked perfectly. Very hearty and perfect for a cold day/night. For entrees, my boyfriend had the pistachio encrusted rainbow trout. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Portion was great... he actually had to take about half of it home for a midnight snack. I ordered the bouillabaisse. Seafood stews are one of my favorite things to order when eating out, and this topped my list. I am very impressed with how the chef seasons their food... not overpowering so you can really enjoy the seafood. All the shell fish was cooked perfectly. They had run out of scallops, but kindly allowed me to choose which fish I would like substitute.. I chose extra mussels, which turned out to be a great choice. With all the shrimp in there, I didn't miss the scallops after all. The broth was scrumptious, with a really wonderful blend of seasoning. We didn't have time for dessert as we had to make it to a movie, but judging from others' plates, they look fantastic. Ambiance was great... it was a very cold night, and they seated us by their lovely fire place. I can't wait to go back, there are several things on the menu that I want to try! I highly recommend this to anyone... whether you want seafood, steak, pasta... they have great choices for all.

We enjoyed a birthday dinner here last night. The menu is perfect. There are enough choices to satisfy all tastes (chicken, duck, veal, lamb, shellfish, fish, vegetarian, etc.) but it is not overwhelming. I am one of those from the school of thought that a restaurant should do a few things well and I do not like opening a multiple page novel entitled Menu. The food we chose was delicious. We ordered the endive salad, I had pistachio encrusted rainbow trout with lump crab meat (real jumbo lump) and he had the osso bucco over saffron risotto. I thought the ambiance was just-right. The cheesecake looked and tasted homemade and we finished off our meal with espresso. The price was well worth it and not over the top for what we ate and drank. We also had the pleasure of having a chat with the owner after our meal. We learned all about their reopening after the flood and we wish this place well. We will surely come back for seconds.

Favorite place to stay. Unfortunately it is closed for the moment due to flooding. But! When I did stay over the summer, in August, it was wonderful. The property owner, Sterl, was down to earth and hilarious! Very laid back and polite and gave us a free 'upgrade' to a better room than what we had booked. There is a bar downstairs and gave a drink on the house. When this opens back up I recommend staying here if you are visiting the area. Not far at all from Hershey park or downtown Hershey!

The food was not good at all. I thought it would be a little pricy but was willing to spend the money for something good. It was not good but very expensive. The staff was polite but very, very slow. Even to get the check we had to wait a long time. They could see we had two young children and that we were trying to get out of there and still did not hurry to get to us.

This place is mediocre at best. I went with a group and we were served inferior food, poor service , and overcharged by a small fortune. Poor service was not the servers fault. They were great. Management was literally insane. She claimed to be the owner but I find that hard to believe. Find a better place for your fine dining.

This place is in the middle of nowhere-- from outside the place look ok-- once inside, the environment is friendly and warm. The food: The Delmonico steak is awesome! Drinks are generous and the chocolate soufflé was unbelievable. The service: EXCELLENT!!!! we had the pleasant surprise to meet AnnaBeatrice Josephine who made our meal even better. Great personality and even better service. Haven't had this much fun during a meal in a very long time. Good luck in NY-- don't change

What a pleasure we had dining at the Union Canal House. don't let the modest decor and parking lot fool you, this restaurant offers a varied and very interesting menu with a very pleasant diversity of tastes and flavors. Start out with the warm bread with a wonderful spread of honey garlic butter. For drinks I'd recommend the abundant and wonderfully presented Margarita and I'd steer clear of the Sangria. Also recommend the house salad with farm to table beans and tomatoes with a reduced balsamic dressing. Big thumbs up for the onion soup. Lobster tails with a grand mariner butter and the chicken Marsala (they make their own veal stock) were yummy and well presented and my brother was quite pleased with his ribs. love that chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Very friendly service as well and the owner shares a nice history about this restaurant as well as interesting insights into the food. The decor is modest, but if you are looking for a menu with a wide variety of creative culinary and not the same unexciting items most restaurants offer, I'm confident you'll be pleased you chose this restaurant and you'll likely come back on your next trip as I am planning to.

Hubby and I are at the Hershey RV show and parked in the dry camping lot. To conserve our use of water, we HAVE to est out so no dishes to wash. Oh darn. We walked the 3/4 mile to the restaurant. I checked in the menu ahead of time and usually we do not spend that much. But had to conserve water don't you know. I had the veal scallopini oscar and hubby had the veal Marsala. Both were tasty dishes that come with veggies and mashed potatoes and warm Italian bread with a very interesting butter ( garlic onion and honey). Hubby had the chocolate stout beer (yum) We were not sure if we would like it so asked the server if we could have a taste. The taste was at least 2 oz. The restaurant itself is not much to look at in a rather old run down part of town. The inside consists of small rooms for a more intimate experience. I'd go back again after my budget recovers. One drink each and entrees plus tip and tax came to $66.

Looking for seafood in Hershey PA and this was one of the restaurants that came up. We took a chance and checked it out. Boy am I glad we did. I had Calamari for an appetizer and it was the best I have ever had. It had banana peppers in it and they gave it such a great flavor. Lightly coated and delicious. My husband had clams casino, good but not remarkable. He also had Caesar Salad that he said was very good. For entree's I had the Scallops and they were tender and quite delicious. The homemade tarter sauce was really refreshing. My husband had NY Strip which had a peppercorn sauce that he said was really good. We will definitely return to Union Canal House. The staff was very friendly and attentive as was the owner who came and introduced herself.

We were in Hershey for the Christmas light show and park. All the "usual" restaurants were packed. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We loved it! The service was great and the food was very good. I had the sausage stew. It was delicious! It's on the app menu, but was enough for my dinner with the bread they served. We are in Hershey quite a bit, we will definitely go back

DH and I have been here twice now. We ordered the chicken both times. I got the chicken rosemary and DH ordered the chicken gorgonzola. Both were absolutely delicious. I love their Caesar salad. DH loves their honey butter. I ask for the regular butter. The service was a touch slow but not annoyingly slow. We went both times on a Tuesday night. It was quiet, we were seated and got our bread and drinks right away, but the food took a little bit to come out. We also LOVE their Crème Brulee. I saw "we" lightly as I ate most of it. Overall, we enjoyed our salads, dinners and dessert and would both be back again and recommend to friends.

My wife and I attended her Christmas party there last night. We had excellent appetizers Scallop wrapped in bacon, Tuscan ragu and portabella mushrooms, served family style- nice touch. For our entrees, I had the Filet Mignon that was cooked to perfection, with vegetables and a baked potato. My wife had veal Oscar. The entrees were very good. Our other choices included most of what their menu offers, which is a great selection. For desert, I had Creme Brulee and my wife had their cheesecake. My only criticism would be that the sugar was not caramelized as much as I was used to BUT it was excellent. The staff was very attentive and course flowed at a good pace. We will definitely be heading back there....you should to!

My tour company has taken several large groups to the Union Canal House as part of tours to the area. Although we had a limited menu of a few choices, the food was great and the service was excellent. Somehow, they are able to serve nearly 50 people in less than two years. Great job on the part of the kitchen staff! When you get there, make certain you ask Sterl the owner about "Elizabeth" the ghost who haunts the building, which dates from the late 1770's. She has been seen by several and the stories are pretty amazing.
