We had not been there in a long time, awesome to be back. Yes it might be a bit pricey, but where else will you be served this variety of delicious fresh food and a friendly, courteous staff. From the front desk hostesses to our waiter to the supervisor! We had a great time, scrumptious food, we are very grateful. The melting pot for two was enough for three. We will definitely go back.

Just went to the Melting Pot my wife and friends out to celebrate her birthday. She had received a birthday appreciation coupon for 6chocolate covered strawberries. Called yesterday to confirm reservation and strawberry coupon. Service was poor and we were told the waitress was new. Gave the waitress the coupon when we first sat down. Which turned out to be a mistake, because at the end of the meal they were out of the strawberries. Guess what all we got was a song and dance about not having prepared enough for today. Could we come back at another time to pick up the strawberries. The manager Ben was a total jerk with no customer services skill at all. Had I not already signed the check, I would have cut the tip and told her to get it from Ben. What an unorganized unprofessional restaurant. My friend then told me that they had done that to his wife before too. My suggestion is that if you want to celebrate something special don't go to the Melting Pot in Harrisburg.. Ps. The service was as bad as everything else.h

My friend got her license today, so we decided to celebrate a little. A reservation is suggested for them to put tables together. It's a great restaurant, great service.

For Christmas in 2014 I got my coworker a conditional gift; a gift card to the Melting Pot. She had been talking about it all year long and really wanted to try it. When she unwrapped her gift she was ecstatic! The condition of course, was that she took me along. Of all the things you may have heard about the Melting Pot, it is safe to assume you heard about the price tag. Yes, this place does have a higher end price scale, but as I always point out: if you play the menu right you will be OK. Three of us made good use of the gift card on Valentine's day. They had a set menu which turned out to be exceptionally delicious, It came in 4 courses: Cheese Fondue, Salad, Entree Fondue and Dessert Fondue. Everything was good, but the dessert was by far the best! Just as good as the food was our server. After explaining to her that it was not only our first time here, but also our first time ever eating fondue, she went well out of her way to explain, describe, and make recommendations for our meal. She was very engaged in our experience; interacting with us as if she was part of our party. A restaurant with good food is always memorable, but a place that has exceptional staff is especially noteworthy. The biggest thing to note about this place is that it makes for a social meal. Come here with people you enjoy spending time with and go when you have something to talk about. The dining style and environment is very conducive to conversation and gossip!

Amazing food, but horrible service! Disappointed by the lack of customer service from our waitress.

The Meting Pot Is a interesting experience. Like most chain restaurants, it has its own "club" for regulars. The Melting Pot features a box of strawberries for birthdays and other special occasions. On several occasions the Harrisburg Melting Pot has not been able to deliver on its promise to provide them. This puts a damper on the whole dining experience.

Really fancy atmosphere, but most of the people in there were really casual. Waitstaff seems very professional. Went just for dessert, Flaming Turtle fondue was excellent. Selections for dipping include: Banana, Strawberry, Brownie bites, rice crispy treats, cheesecake, poundcake and marshmallows. Really tasty and not that expensive. Note: Pennsylvania liquor laws prevented us from ordering cocktails because one person in our party was under 21. Not the restaurant's fault but they were certainly the only place to enforce that for the entire trip.

The Melting Pot is one of my favorite restaurants of all time! I've gone there plenty of times, and at different locations. I am also a member of their Club Fondue. However, this is my first time ever writing a negative review. My boyfriend and I (who are long distance, so a date night is a special treat) wanted to make a reservation for Valentine's Day. We've gone in the past with no problem. I was told to wait until I saw a post on Facebook. The post came at 3pm. I called at 3:30pm, and there was nothing but super late reservations for Valentine's Day. Apparently they had opened the phone lines that morning, but how would we have ever known? Then, I tried posting to their FB wall, (very politely may I add - I do like the place!) and so did about 4 other disappointed customers who were unable to get a reservation because they allowed people to call before they announced it. Even though they said you HAVE TO WAIT until the FB post to call. The social media person decides to delete all of our comments, all of which were politely worded and just wondering what happened. I am no manager, but if I had loyal customers who were disappointed they couldn't spend an evening out at their favorite restaurant, I would NOT have deleted their polite and concerned comments. What about a coupon? A free drink next time we come in? Something to make your customers happy and want to come back another time instead? I'm just a little concerned with the lack of customer service.

This is simply an experience to be had. It was fun, interesting, and at the same time awkward. The atmosphere can be romantic and/or relaxing depending on your dining purpose. We decided on a 4 course meal which started with our choice of cheese fondue. We got a garlic pesto cheese fondue which tasted more like pesto than anything else. Some of the dippers weren't meant for cheese, at least if you ask me. While consuming the cheese we got our small salads that were quite delicious. Once we finished our cheese fondue our waiter brought out base to cook our meat in. A plate of raw meat accompanied the base. It took 2 minutes to cook each piece which allowed for a nice relaxed meal. The base was awfully salty but tasted decently with the meat. The vegetables that we dropped into the broth were way too salty after being cooked by the broth. By the time we are our main course we were both quite full but after seeing the dessert we had to at least try it. We got the flaming turtle chocolate which was accompanied by many little treats to dip in the chocolate. This was definitely the best part of the meal. Our bill totaled $85.00 for two not including the tip. I felt that was quite high considering we were cooking our own food. Our waiter was very friendly but some of the front associates seemed disinterested, bitchy, and didn't even look at you when they talked. Most people were dressed casually but the atmosphere is fine for dress or casual attire depending on your reason for visiting. I would definitely go again but only for a celebration. I definitely recommend trying it out for the experience itself.

Let's be honest. You go there for the food-on-a-stick experience, not a gourmet experience. The food was good. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing necessarily knocked our socks off, either. The cheese appetizer fondue was fine. The kids liked watching it made at the table. The baby carrots seemed odd for dipping in a cheese sauce. The bread was fine and the other items were fine. Overall it was good. The salad was a huge disappointment. Not enough dressing so it came across as a small pile of dry lettuce on a plate. I was not impressed. The main course is where you realize it's a total rip off. They set the proteins very artfully on a plate, but there's a heck of a lot of white space. It was fun to try the various sauces, but most of them taste like they came right out of a jar. The kids were impatient waiting for the meat to cook and were still hungry when their "kid" servings were eaten. The kid servings don't provide a lot of food (neither does the adult portion for that matter). The various meats had different seasonings but must of that flavor seemed to get lost in the cooking process. The dessert is way too sweet. The things you dip are sweet and the chocolate fondue is sweet. I would have loved a few salty pretzels to dip instead of the marshmallows. It was like a disturbing nightmare set in the Willy Wonka factory in that candy room with the chocolate river. Plus, most of the dippers tasted like pre-packaged, mass-produced, filled with preservatives items. I had a few items then stopped cold turkey. The thought of another marshmallow covered in chocolate made me want to gag. The ambiance is dark. It comes across as intimate. The server spiel is a little too canned and stuffy for me. It's fondue, not truffles and caviar. I'd go back for the kids. They liked it. They also loved that the granite table tops are the same as what's in our kitchen at home.

Went to The Melting Pot last night for my wife's birthday. Just the two of us. This place was amazing, hands down the best dinning experience we have had in Harrisburg to date. From the cheese starter to the chocolate desert at the end, the experience was worth the price. The wait staff was well versed on the menu and when they made a mistake they more than made up for it. The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic and not rushed, so you do not feel like a number they are just trying to push through the door. This place is a bit pricey and is probably best left to special occasions, but we were not disappointed and you probably won't be either. We will dwffinately be back...

It was a wonderful intimate experience for me and my husband. Plan on being there an average of 2 hours. Plain and simple, it's food on a stick but if you order the right combination for your palate, it could be an awesome experience. Plus our server was so personable it made it that much better.

Have not eaten at this melting pot, but the management does not communicate. attempted to book at large party (16). They require a written agreement. I had the agreement in within days and they never called back. I called 2 days later and spoke with a different manager, they have already booked and cannot accept our party. rec if you plan to book a large party, do it that day. Otherwise, there is not comitment and they won't hold your spot. Poor customer service

My first experience here was on my birthday, and I can't wait to go back! The staff was very informative and since it was my first time there they were very patient explaining everything. I enjoyed the "big night out" experience, which was quite the delicious journey. Also, I'm not a big shellfish eater, and I greatly appreciated being able to swap it out for extra meat. Yes, it's pricey, but it's a great experience and I left with a satisfied stomach and a smile on my face.

For special occasions, we love going here! The four course meal is very filling and you can have a different experience every time! The staff is so knowledgeable - but the training they go through seems to ensure a great experience. We ask a lot of questions every time we go in. As a childless couple, we often have issues going to expensive restaurants, only to have our meal interrupted by loud children. Thanks to the layout of the Melting Pot, we've never had an issue there. The tall booths make for a wonderful, cozy atmosphere. While the cheese and chocolate courses are my favorite, they have a wonderful mushroom sacchetti that I love! Trying to make plans with some friends to meet up there for dessert sometime soon, because my husband has had a craving for their S'mores chocolate. Oh, and be sure to make reservations, even during the week.

In all fairness, although I didn't really care for this place, my wife enjoyed it immensely both times she went (once with me and once with a group of girl-friends.) The atmosphere was dark... I called it 'Modern Gothic'... It was very romantic, however, and our seats were kind of enclosed so it gave a feeling that we were the only ones in there. We enjoyed that part of it. Although it was sort of neat cooking my own food in hot oil, the novelty wore off pretty quick and it wasn't very filling (the portions are kind of small.) I probably won't come back unless my wife twists my arm.

Expensive, but filling. Not something I'd do regularly, but if you or your date have never gone, you should go at least once. It's a fondue joint. 4 course meal is what they try to sell. Again, it's expensive, but a great experience. MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE

We are staying in Harrisburg for a Summer Hershey visit. Had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Melting Pot this evening. Food was great and the service was exceptional. Will definitely plan on visiting the Melting Pot near home sometime soon.

Nice atmosphere. Nice concept- but all that wonderful broth left from cooking your food is tossed away after being boiled to death at your tabletop. They are trying to emulate Chinese Hot Pots which are simmered slowly and every drop is appreciated. The fondue of cheese is nice, but again these things should be experienced over a long slow evening with good conversation. I would have loved to dip some bread or let some noodles float in the broth we flavored....but it was taken away for us to try something else. Once was enough. I'll stick to the Vietnamese places with big bowls of pho on Paxton St.

This was my first experience at any Melting Pot (other than the great city of New York ... haha ... bad joke!) and I can cross it off my list. I don't think I have had a four course fondue dinner since my mom tested out her 'new' fondue pots ages ago. Our server, Mike, was delightful and one can definitely tell that the staff is trained to up sell, up sell, up sell. That being said, I would have given 3.5 stars but I think that the Melting Pot is a bit pricey for what it offers. We were a group of six but ordered the three course dinner for 2 couples with a couple extra salads. We started with a cheddar cheese and a spinach artichoke fondue that was made right in front of us (as all the fondue dishes were). We were given bread, nacho chips and veggies to dip with our own color coded fondue forks. These cheese fondues were so good and these two in particular were recommended out of all the cheese varieties. The salads came out next. There were about 4 or 5 choices ... I had the Cobb which was very good and my friends had either the Caesar, spinach or California. We had a choice between 3 or so meat fondue dishes and several types of broth. Our side of the table got the lower tier selection with chicken, teriyaki beef, filet mignon, salmon, shrimp and veggies. The other side added duck to theirs. I thought it was ok but not my preferred choice of cooking style. There were several sauces but I felt that my meat tasted 'blandly boiled in broth', similar to the Japanese version of shabu shabu, which I am not a huge fan. Dessert was amazing: chocolate fondue with rice krispie treats, marshmallows and cheese cake to dip. I would go here for dessert alone. All in all, a fun new experience but if I were to go again, I would stick with the cheese and dessert fondues.

I tried the Melting Pot for the first time and was horribly disappointed. The meals are egregiously over priced. The cheese fondue was mediocre though the salad was decent. The portion size for the main course was extremely small for two people (4 cubed size pieces of chicken, 4 cubed size pieces of steak, etc). We chose the vegetable broth to dip the food in and it didn't help the blandness of the food at all. For $102 for 2 people I expected something a little bit more. The only thing that saved the experience was the dessert but it is still not enough to get me to consider going back there again.

love this place!! Service is spectacular and their food is prepared and presented very pleasing to the eye. Love the choice of salads. The paremsan crusted pine nuts in the caesar salad are fantastic! Never been disappointed and so many choices. If you do it right - it is not expensive as some reviewer say.

This is a place to go for a dining experience. I like to think of it as "tapas fondue". That's right, you dont get tons of food, but rather as many small plates as you'd like to order ala carte.... Had a 6pm reservation of Saturday night. Showed up about 5 minutes late and said our group of 4 would be seated in just a few. Went to the bar, ordered a round, and our table was ready. So we sit and our waitress Elizabeth shows up. I have to say, she knew her stuff, made some solid recommendations, and was spot on with her service. She was very deserving of her 20% at the end of the night. So what we did was order 4 separate entrees and split them between the four of us. I personally think for the prices, you get a very small amount of food. For instance, the Cajun entree I ordered. 3 slices of sausage, 3 small pieces of pork, 3 small pieces of chicken, and 3 small shrimp. When i say small, i mean like bite size. I think this was about 19 bucks, give or take...Remember, tapas style. If you go there and order an entree for just yourself, chances are you'll leave hungry. This is unless you eat like 7 calories a day. Now dont get me wrong, doing it like we did, I left very full.... That being said, the decor is very nice, and the service i found to be excellent. The manager even stopped by twice to check on us and clear away some dishes. So for four people, four entrees, four salads, and a few drinks each, we split the $240 bill. So $120 bucks for a couple. Is it a little expensive, yes! Is it worth it? Depends if you have a steakhouse taste and a burger king budget I guess.... We enjoy it a couple times a year.

If you haven't tried the Melting Pot I would strongly encourage you to do so. I've tried other locations and can personally attest that the service I received in Harrisburg was by far the best. That's not to say the service has ever been lacking anywhere else, I was just extra impressed! This particular location is rather interesting in the way it's set up, there are numerous booths that offer an almost strange privacy. The color and decor of the place is both classy and relaxing. As for the food, you'll just have to try it yourself! (I'll give you a hint, it's awesome..) Needless to say, I was extremely pleased with the place and wish I could afford to go more often, it's a tad on the pricey side for me, but definitely a memorable experience.

My wife & I's favorite place for special occasions. Great atmosphere (low-lighting, individual booths, quiet jazz in the background), great food, and wonderful service. We always feel taken care of there by the staff. I like to call the Melting Pot a food-adventure because you cook your own food right at your table in the pot.

Recently had the pleasure of going to The Melting Pot and everything was flawless. I was celebrating my anniversary and everyone there wished us a Happy Anniversary. The atmosphere was perfect for the occasion, intimate but not too romantic. The service was phenomenal, everyone there was very nice and helpful. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the Spinach Artichoke Cheese Fondue. We went with the full, four-course meal with the Mojo cooking style; it was a crazy amount of food but well-worth trying everything. The fondue style cooking made dinner fun and interactive; some people find it annoying and pointless, but I really enjoyed it. The dessert was the best part with the chocolate fondue-- if you're going for just one course, make it dessert! Overall, the full meal was expensive so I would recommend it for special occasions, not the casual night out. The service and food were great and I would definitely go again! (Shout out to Mike and Brian for the great service!)

We've been to the Melting Pot many times for special occasions. Expect to shell out quite a bit of money for your meal, but the experience is worth it. Book reservations ahead of time, and give yourself a few hours to get through the entire appetizer, meal and dessert fondue experience. There are many wine choices, but as with any restaurant, expect a big markup on the cost. We found a wine we liked while at the Melting Pot, I think it cost about $28. We found it at the liquor store later for less than $8. Oops. The wait staff is professional and well trained. We've had the same waiter, Ron, on multiple occasions. He has given great wine suggestions and attentive service every time. Romantic place for an anniversary meal, as they have tall booths that provide privacy. Green Goddess dressing is AWESOME...I get extra. As a side note, there are also two spaces for fondue pots at the bar. If you get there early enough, you can do a great cheese fondue happy hour or go for just dessert. Shoot. Now I have to make a reservation..writing about it makes me hungry!

  • Jim K.

If you are into fondue, it is a fantastic place, but you have to be into fondue. This means that you will be cooking your own food and that you enjoy the company of everyone at the table as you will be there 2+ hours. Portions are generous, especially if you eat the four courses as intended (cheese fondue, salad, meat fondue, dessert fondue). Perhaps penguinette didn't notice but you can have your meat fondue cooked in oil and not broth and there are different "flavors" of broth/oil to choose from. You can also substitute different proteins if people in your group don't like one (e.g. chicken for shrimp). This place is great for couples!!!

I've been to this Melting Pot once. The waitress was wonderful, and the service was excellent. Of all things what do I remember the most? The strawberry-basil lemonade (alcoholic). That part was definitely worth the price. The rest... yeah, it was the melting pot. Nice atmosphere, and consistently good at each one I've been to... alas, for what it is it feels like it was a little too pricey for what we got, drinks aside. Unless it's a hugely special event I don't mind dropping a lot of cash on, I'd probably just come for the cheese fondue and/or the dessert, and skip the main course.

12/26/08 5pm I had one of the nicest experiences in a long time at the Melting Pot across Paxton Street from the Harrisburg (East) Mall. The food was unusual & delicious and the service was just outstanding. When you enter the restaurant, you are met with dim lighting and a clean, comfortable atmosphere. As the restaurant had just opened, there was a bit of a mix-up with our reservation but we were accommodated without delay and were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. The servers have obviously been trained in upselling and will steer you towards the all-inclusive dinner packages. My group was just interested in more snacky items, so we chose a pot of cheese fondue and a dessert fondue. The menu was very expansive and included 7-10 various cheese fondues and probably as many dessert ones. We chose the Wisconsin Cheese Trio and the Flaming Turtle for dessert. Some members of our group also enjoyed selections from the vast wine menu, which was fairly priced and quite expansive. Even more impressive was the by-the-bottle wine list, which was just huge and not terribly overpriced. Our cheese fondue was served with a selection of breads, veggies and apples which complimented the fondue wonderfully. I was really impressed with the way the server mixed our fondue on the table in front of us, explaining each step of the process as she proceeded. Our dessert fondue, the "flaming turtle" was chocolate and caramel with pecans and flambéed 151 poured over top. It was an exciting thing to watch the flambé come together at the table. It was served with an assortment of fruits, cakes, cheesecake, marshmallows and (my favorite) rice krispy treats. It was delicious and an amazing all at once. The service was just outstanding. My water glass never got below half full and dirty dishes were cleared promptly. Our busboy was every bit as attentive as our wonderful server and they worked as a team to assure top-tier service. Our server did admit, however, that management scheduled more servers than they probably needed since the restaurant is new, allowing the servers to work without rushing around. The restaurant was nicely decorated, with dark colors and dim (but not too much so) lighting. The art on the walls was remarkable and appeared to be originals. The color scheme was pleasing and complimented the colors of the food as well. I felt like I was in a classy joint and was treated as a VIP the entire time I was in their care. I'm giving a 4-star review because of the mixup with our reservation. I called on Wednesday for a reservation and was told that a Manager would have to call me back. He did, on Friday (the day), and told me that they were booked solid. Nevertheless, we showed up and were seated. The restaurant was not full by any stretch of the imagination, so it appeared they were just acting conservatively by not overbooking. Compared with everything else, it's probably only worthy of a half-star deduction, but I'm going to deduct a full star - to give The Melting Pot the opportunity to impress me even more on my next visit. If you're in search of a new and unusual type of dining experience, give The Melting Pot a try.

My boyfriend took me here for Valentines Day last Saturday. Really nice meal. They were very full but it seemed like we were the only ones there. Quiet and intimate. Food was yummy (I mean, it is hard not to like dinner when you can play with your food!) We had all four courses. Expensive but worth it. The fondue cooks right at your table and is an enjoyable way to spend an evening. Allow for about two and a half hours to get through all four courses. There are several types of cheese, salad, meat and chocolate to choose from on the menu. You are bound to find something you like. The waitstaff is very pleasant and helpful, making for a wonderful celebration. I can't wait to go back.

Straight up, interesting concept that needs a little refining. The food was good but doesn't live up to the menu's market hype and is a bit expensive considering you are cooking it yourself. The service was chaotic and spotty. It was a busy night, but my server kept getting lost. 20 minutes after my drink order, he apologized (still no drink) saying the bartender was very busy. It took almost three hours for the dining experience, that'd be ok if I was enjoying someone else's company not flying solo on a business trip. Honestly, the staff are quite young and friendly just a bit inexperienced. If you want fondue, this place offers a decent, if expensive experience. I'd probably look elsewhere for that 'special' dining experience though.

I've been to the Melton Pot in Reston, VA, which is the reason when I went home, I recommended this place as a great place for desert after our meal. I called the restaurant around 7 o'clock on a Saturday evening and the hostesses told me that they were booked solid until about 11 pm that night, but if I wanted to bar was first come, first serve and also served food. So around 9 pm, the four of us decided to try out luck and were able to get a few seats at the bar. Unfortunately, there are only 2 burners located at the bar and both were being used when we got there. We waited for about half an hour before the party next to us left and ordered food. We ordered their Cheddar fondue, which was pretty good. It came with a bunch of small vegetables, bread, granny smith apples. We also ordered their milk chocolate desert fondue, which in my opinion, was heavenly. The bar tender was great and was entertaining. We would definitely go back to this when we're in town again and looking for something different for desert. And oh! Their drinks arne't priced too badly either, compared to what you would pay at another comparable bar.

My wife and I celebrated our 1st anniversary here as a gift from friends. I was reluctant to come, as I am the master skeptic. For the most part, I'm more comfortable in a steakhouse or outdoor cafe atmosphere, but I said, "what the heck". We arrived for an early dinner and upon entering, the ambiance and decor are wonderful. We were seated on what they call "lovers lane". The booths are spacious, imtimate and there is ample privacy. In esscence, you and your fellow patrons are never crowding one another. This is by no means a loud, rowdy place. The crowd was also predominately young (20s-40s) Our waitress, who was remarkable, started us off with drinks and a spiniach fondue with several cheeses. This was all at the prodding of both her and my wife, mind you. As she prepared it, my mind changed and upon sampling with nachos, I was hooked. Needless to say, I put a huge hurting on this, lol. I also want to add that their wine list is exceptional and they have a decent selection of bottled beer at very reasonable prices. I opted for a Sam Adams, but will have wine the next time I visit. For dinner, we had the land and sea which we dipped in a broth. For dessert, we had the chocolate fudge with smores and strawberries. I will just say I can't wait to go back. If you are celebrating an anniversary, Valentines Day or special occassion with your SO, I HIGHLY recommend the Melting Pot.

Went here to celebrate my wife's birthday with a bunch of friends. At the manager's suggestion, I ordered a happy birthday presentation, which included a special champagne flute, a few truffles, and balloons. That really impressed my wife, and I didn't mind paying for it. Our group all orded the big super combo, which was a bot pricey, but again, this was a special occasion. The food was all quite good, but the service was the best part of the might. Our waitress did an excellent job of explaining things, and making sure that we were all doing well While I agree with the other reviewers that this place is best for special occasions, I'd still like to return for a more casual, intimate data with my wide I'm looking forward to returning!

The setting is nice and intimate which was perfect for a date with my hubby and the food was pretty good, the banana's foster was spectacular... however our waitress must have also been a magician considering she would often disappear. I believe if it had not been for the lackluster service I would have given 4 stars.

I give The Melting Pot 2 stars only because of the dessert. IF I ever return, it will only be for dessert. I took my husband to The Melting Pot for his birthday after hearing so many of my friends talking about it. It was an experience for sure. The vegetarian plate was alright. Nothing too exciting. I could have easily prepared it at home for 1/4 of the price. I didn't give any forethought into the fact that I'd have to be cooking my veggies in the same pot as the meat that the others at the table were eating. I tried to put that out of my mind, but it is a major factor in my never wanting to eat dinner there again. For the appetizer fondue we selected an aged cheddar and beer concoction. It was pretty good. The bread they served with it was dry and gross. Very disappointing. The other dipping options were apples, celery, and carrots. Mehhh... not impressive. This may be TMI, but I am lactose intolerant and though I usually manage to eat dairy products without much of a major issue, this cheese fondue had me violently ill on the ride home. People with dairy issues should beware! I already mentioned the main course. My husband thought the portions were excessively small for the price, but since you can only cook a few small pieces at a time it would take way too long to eat a normal size meal. Dessert saved the meal. It was amazing! We ordered a flambéed chocolate and caramel fondue with pecans. I wasn't thrilled with all of the dipping items. I definitely could have done without the marshmallows and rice krispy treats and gone for a whole lot more of the strawberries, pound cake, and cheesecake! The waiter told me that in the future the kitchen could customize the plate for me if there were certain things I didn't want. Our waiter was very helpful, however, I was really surprised by how we were treated by the staff when we arrived. We had a reservation for 7:30. We had allowed a little extra time to get there in case of traffic, so we arrived at 7:20. The hostesses (yes, apparently this is a 3 person job) were actually a bit rude. They told us we were early (we were obviously aware of this fact) and that we could have to wait. None of the 3 actually left the little podium to check on a table for us. We stood in the lobby the full 10 minutes until they were ready to seat us at 7:30. As we entered the dining area I was irritated to discover that the restaurant was maybe 25% full. Our server had one other table that he had been waiting on for a little while, so it's not as if there wasn't a server who was ready for us. I expect to be treated better when dropping $150 for dinner on a non-busy weeknight. This place is so overrated! IF I ever go there again, it will be for dessert (minus the non-homemade marshmallows) only.

Great ambience for a special night out. But the food was just average and the portion sizes were very small. We had the appetizer and the chocolate entrees. I guess it is an "one and done" type dining experience. For what we paid, we did not get much.

I classify The Melting Pot as one of those restaurants that you should go to at least once, and then only again if you have some kind of special occasion. And I mean really special, like you've just gotten married, or had a new baby, or your last child finally moved out of your house. That being said, when I asked my fiancee to marry me and she said yes, that qualified. Shes Canadian and has had fondue, but never had it served to her in a restaurant so this was a new experience for her. I have been to a Melting Pot a few other times for various celebrations so I knew what was going to happen. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate. It's the kind of place you don't go into expecting to be in and out during your lunch break, and you'd better have some good conversation pieces to talk about or you are going to have an awkward 3 hours sitting together. For the full dining experience, all courses from start to finish, you will be here for roughly 3 hours. "The Big Night Out" seems to be the most cost effective way of doing this between 2 people. You get Salad, Cheese Fondue, Dinner Plate, and Dessert Fondue. The server has no problems with substituting something to accommodate any dietary or allergen needs. The Cheese fondue is served with bowls of Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrots, and different types of bread. You have no need to be stingy with things since the server will bring you more of anything you request as long as there is something left in the bowl. Made at the table you are part of what they are doing. You get to choose how much garlic and spices they use to fit your taste buds. The Salad is simple yet elegant. Mostly just something to hold you over while the chefs prepare your base fondue and meat selections for the actual dinner part of your experience. Not a whole lot to rave about here. It's a Salad.. At this point in our meal I would like to take the time to point out that the manager began making his rounds to each table. Arriving at ours he asked what the occasion was, I informed him that my fiancee said Yes and she showed him the ring, to which he was very happy for both of us and scampered off, a few minutes later he returned with a free dessert card and free appetizer card, and as we would later find out he took off 15% from our bill. This isn't going to be coloring the review since gestures don't change the way the food tastes, and how the service is, however I feel it's appropriate to mention it here. BTW even with the discount our bill cleared triple digits. But every little bit helps. Moving on to the main course. We chose the Coq Au Vin with the Fusion plate. Soon our entire table was stocked with little pewter ramekins filled with various sauces. Each one had their complimenting meats which the server explained. of course these are only guidelines. If you want to use the dill sauce with the chicken instead of the mushrooms...Go for it. The Ravioli are fantastic and the shrimp were big and tasty. The server would check back with us every so often to make sure the bowl was still having a good boil to it and we were ok, but not so much as to be interrupting our meal which is hard to get down as a server. After finishing up all the meat on our plate and having the table cleared it's time for the final dish, the Chocolate fondue. Choosing the Chocolate S'mores dish the server really made a show of getting the marshmallow cooking and adding the graham crackers and then stirring it all up. My fiancee's eyes just about popped out of her skull when she saw all the delectable treats on the tray set down in front of her. Bananas, Strawberries, Cheesecake, Brownies, Pound Cake, Chocolate and Graham covered Marshmallows, and Rice Krispy Treats. Once again, they will bring out more of anything you run out of as long as there is chocolate in that bowl. All the fruits were fresh and of good size and taste, with and without the fondue, on top of that everything had a light dusting of powdered sugar just for that added touch. They say chocolate is an Aphrodisiac, and seeing her eyes light up with each bite pretty much confirms this. Our dining experience was top notch, the service was excellent, the food and drinks were exceptional. However for what it is, you are paying for the atmosphere, the evening, and you not having to cut raw meat and boil it yourself. Which is why it's something you should limit yourself to for special occasions, or only do single parts of the meal. IE only the dessert or only the cheese. 4 stars because we all know they don't need to be charging this much. Sidenote: I have also had the Yin-Yang, and Turtle dessert fondues, they were both excellent as well. Anytime you take chocolate, melt it down and then add fruit, it's a winning combination, hands down.
