Great pizza! I was not expecting to find pizza comparable to my hometown in NY but here it is! Very happy with the pies I've ordered and the salads are also pretty good. Definitely worth a try!

This place has my mouth water every time I enter this fine establishment. So far, I've only tried their pizzas and subs, my roommates have tried their burgers, and we are addicted to this stuff like crack...yes it is that good. I would suggest this place start a chain it so darn good. Moving here from the new york city area, I was thinking which place in the Harrisburg area could hold its own in pizza...and this place could probably beat or come pretty darn close to some of the best pizza establishments in the NYC area. I just had their chicken cheesesteak, and that was amazing too. What else could you want?? I am certain that if you come here you will leave satisfied every time, coming back for more!

    Two words: GRANDMA PIZZA.

We went there a couple Sundays ago for lunch. The area around it was dead quiet. We had the buffalo chicken pizza and a side salad. For the price you really can't beat it. The pizza was above-average. Nothing special, but very good. I would go back.

this place has the wonderou Grandma's Pizza. Just this lightly crispy crust, crushed tomatoes with garlic and a light covering of mozzerela. Fan-flippin' tastic. I'll have to admit that I'm so addicted to this, I've not tried anything else there.

Palumbo's ... after moving to Harrisburg we were in an almost empty house, exhausted and had no desire to cook, we started looking for Pizza places in the phone book and found nothing close and found nothing that appealed to us, then we saw Palumbo's menu in the phone book. Chicken Cordon Bleu Pizza ???? Oh what the hell, let's try it, Ordered, drove there, ( took longer to find a place to park than it took to get there ) and got the pizza. While there I noticed that there was art by local artists for sale including some really pretty Cut paper work. I thought that would make a really unique Valentines Present for my spouse. Got Pizza, drove home, ate pizza and am now forever jaded against any other Pizza. So final score, Five Stars for Pizza, take away 1 star for parking, give back .75 of a star for supporting local artists, and give back another .25 star because the staff has always been friendly. Palumbo's, you rock!

Yelp for the win! While visiting the Harrisburg area I was once again dependent on Yelp to find a nice spot to eat and wasn't disappointed with this spot. I had a group of 5 with me for an early evening dinner and we ordered some subs, cold sandwiches and slices. I personally had a meatball sub but the rest of my family was very happy with their meals just as much as I enjoyed my meatball sub. I definitely recommend if you're looking for something good, inexpensive and fast to eat. Flavors of food was spot on, not too bland and not over seasoned with a good balance.

We arrived in Harrisburg late at night, and were looking anything that was still open. The whole street was full of restaurants and bar, and this Italian place caught our eyes. The place definitely had an old Italian vibe with that grandma feel to it, and they also have an Italian radio station playing in the background with Italian music. According to the staff, they make their pizzas on display every four hours, and we got there around during the mid-cycle. I got two different slices: German and Buffalo Chicken. The German had an interesting combination of meat and veggies, and I really like the banana peppers on there. The Buffalo Chicken was not bad, was not very spicy, but did not have that strong vinegar taste like most places. Palumbo seems to be quite solid for some late night pizza with an authentic Italian feel. All the staffs can speak Italian too.

Best pizza I've had in the Burg in a long time! The fresh pizza you whipped up for us after our evening trip through 2nd street was on point. Tell these folks you have the munchies and wait for the delightful smell and taste you are about to experience.

I decided to try the place after reading the reviews and the pizza was ok it wasn't the best tho but I would still recommend it the prices aren't to bad but don't get the Mac and cheese bites they weren't good at all.

Visited Palumbo's after reading raving reviews on Yelp. Tried a slice of their famous Grandma's Pizza and a veggie broccoli pizza. Below average.. especially Grandma's pizza which was very salt leaving a not so pleasant taste.

While in Harrisburg for business I'm visiting all eateries in downtown. Tonight it was Palumbo's. I have the chicken parmigiana, humongous portion, more than enough for two people for actually less than $10. The chicken was good: moist and flavorful and the pasta was al perfectly al dente. Good food but too much for me.

Ever since the new owner bought this place the pizza sucks and I mean it really sucks I used to eat here all the time and always loved the pizza. I really wish the old owner comes back and bring back the delicious pizza

Yummy ...Delicious pizza. Try the german sausages and peppers it was so good plus they were accommodating at 3 am.

Calzone with pepperoni, mushrooms & onions. Large portion and very tasty. However, the temperature wasn't consistent. Also no beer selection. It is one step above a dive but it did serve the purpose.

On my way to Boston for the holidays and stopped in Harrisburg for the night. This place is right downtown on a block with a ton of Irish pubs and other food and bar joints. Open until 2 or 3am and perfect for when you finish your night of drinking and want some food. By the slice or the pie, roll in and grab your food to go, although there are a few tables for eating in too. I had grandmas pizza for the first time and it was awesome!

I've visited here several times. I want to love this place more but something keeps holding me back. Read on. When I visit Harrisburg the location is perfect for me as my Hotel is just down the street. Also, their hours are great. When you walk in it looks like 10,000 other pizza joints all over the country. You have your giant menu board. You have the glass case with by-the-slice choices etc. You have a few cheap booths. You feel the warmth of the pizza ovens. It has the right feel. The guys behind the counter have always been great. They are friendly and handle crowds well. One reason I think this place is so popular is that what you get for your dollar is great. When you see the size of your sub or feel the weight of your pizza box, you know the quantity is there. So now that I've mentioned all the good things the problem is the quality. Specifically everything just tastes under-seasoned to me. Come on; it's Italian food. I expect a little zip! On my most recent visit the carnivore in me was roaring for meat. So I ordered the small (14 inch) Meat Lovers for $16.50. The toppings on this bad boy included ham, salami, pepperoni, sausage, ground beef and bacon. It was ready quickly and looked fantastic. This pie was also heavy as hell. As I said the quantity is there. With all those toppings this pie should have been bursting with flavors. Unfortunately and sadly it was just bland. The sauce was bland. The only topping that my taste buds noticed was the bacon. I've noticed the same issue with the subs I have tried. My fellow Yelpers like to give these folks 4 and even 5 stars. I just can't do it and I'm going to say 3 stars.

I seriously love this place's pizza. Grandma pizza is my favorite. Their plain cheese is huge and delicious. So many different pies to offer and I've never had a bad slice.

Grandma's Pizza is the best! I live too far from Harrisburg now, but this pie is amazing. I would travel the distance for this pizza. Their Italian Grinder is excellent too. Like a sub/stromboli on a pizza. I can barely eat a second piece. The service is good, and they also have coupons available. *sighs* How I miss Palumbo's. This review is for Harrisburg only. I did not eat at the Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill location, and I do not know if they are related in any way. This is a take out only, with a few booths to eat at inside. No delivery. Awesome hours, especially if you want a pizza at 2am.

Ordered subs tonight, drove around for parking, get home and my sub is wrong. I ordered an Italian sub with lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar like I always do, and I got an Italian sub with some sort of French type salad dressing. I called to complain & was met with a condescending tone on the phone telling me this is their oil & vinegar and offering to get me the exact date that they've been using this since. No thanks, jerkoff, just give me my damn sub. I had to call BS on that since I've been coming here for do long. The guy finally broke down & told me this is their version of oil & vinegar salad dressing. Come back to get a new one, and stood & watched them remake it...the guy actually asked me if oil & vinegar meant oil & vinegar. I don't know what's going on with this place, but the last few times I've been here, service has been terrible & the pizza was nasty. Highly disappointed.

We all went here after the bars closed and since one can't drink, one goes and eats. The place was packed and there was a line to the door. The line went quickly and we ordered sausage pizza slices. Whatever they gave us looked like gyro meat slices, besides that it tasted awesome. I wasn't drunk so this wasn't the alcohol talking. The crust was crisp but you could still found the big slice. The service was friendly considering the patrons were a bit sketchy, loud and drunkish. If I ever lose my way and end up in Harrisburg again, I will visit again!

Been waiting to try the Pittsburgh pizza (cheese fry pizza) for quite a while. I finally ordered two the other day and disappointment is all I have in response. The cheese sauce wasn't all that great, wasn't given the chance to choose bacon or steak as the topping due to a hard to understand order taker over the phone who seemed very rushed to get off the phone, and the pizza was simply bland overall. Just moved to Harrisburg and I certainly won't be frequenting this place.

It will set you back just $1.95 Read so many good reviews about their famous take on Grandma Pizza, got a slice and I'm a fan! Fresh ingredients, nice crust and wild amounts of garlic.

  • Norman E.

Grandma pizza is legit. Cheesesteaks are pretty good too, but they don't have cheese whiz.

    (3)
  • Nicholas C.

For a pizzeria, this is what you're looking for--top notch crust which is both crispy and melts in your mouth. The Grandma's is the best as it is thinner with fresh tomatoes and just enough cheese. Premium quality stuff. Glad to have gone. Had the BBQ Chicken pizza too, which was good, but not as crispy, fresh, light nor melt-in-your-mouth. I've been to a few better pizzerias in terms of pizza taste, so I gave this 4 stars... *(Example: Pizza Rustica in Ft. Lauderdale is 5 stars.)

I am still on the quest for good pizza in Harrisburg, and this is my favorite so far. I decided to try it simply because of a suggestion from a friend and good reviews here. I looked at the menu, and despite this "grandma" pizza being what everyone talks about, I decided the thin crust pierogie pizza was more my cup of tea. They have a ton of really fun speciality pizzas here - with lots of delicious and different sounding toppings - and I don't know why no one else really addresses this. I was quoted 30 minutes and drove down to pick up the pizza. There is no lot - so parking is pretty impossible because it is right there on second street in a pretty crowded area. I managed to find a spot right out front that is 15 minutes only (still dunno if I was ALLOWED to park there but whatever) and ran inside. My pizza was hot and ready. I got a garlic knot as well for kicks. Well the pizza was down right amazing and I'm going to go back and try a few more. I enjoy the crust, the toppings were delicious, and I had enough to feed myself for three meals. This place immediately went into the "places to take my husband when he visits" list. I couldn't stop raving to him about my delicious pizza. The garlic knot wasn't my thing - it was a weird fluffy pastry like dough that I just didn't really enjoy with the garlic. I ended up not eating it. But I don't care - the pizza was good enough it doesn't matter. I will definitely be back.

It's official. I'm hooked on the Grandma's pizza. I'm from the Famous Ray's school of pizza and almost always get toppings on my slices/pies. Not here! Grandma's pizza is good all by itself! If you do like toppings on your slices, there's quite an array of unique pizza choices. I have also tried the Pittsburg pizza which is covered with meat, cheese and french fries ... yep, you heard it ... french fries. It's really good but my fave is definitely the Grandma's. I like the staff here. Very friendly and fast service. Plus you can look at great local artwork for sale on the walls while you wait. Only downside is parking can be tough but the pizza is worth it.

Having lived in NYC, and still living close, I have had my share of really good pizza. This is some of the best. The Grandma (which they call pan pizza, but upstate NYers call sheet pizza) is delicious. The sauce has just a bit of spice and the overall product is pretty close to perfect.

Palumbo's is a popular post-clubbing spot on 2nd Street. In front, a crowd of revelers loitered, eventually forming a line that snaked inside. I asked for a recommendation, and a random guy said to forgo their pizza and to get a stromboli instead. Their house stromboli looked amazing; pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, sausages, and onions. Sadly, they sold out, and only steak strombolis remained. We were hungry, so we got one to go, and the two of us devoured it in her kitchen. That mix of steak, onions, cheese, and dough was a decent solution to a long night of carousing. Not sure how big our stromboli was, but small strombolis go for $7.50, mediums for $14.25, and a large is $16.25. Since Palumbo's is much-ballyhooed, I'll be back for their house stromboli. Heck, I might even visit during the daytime.

Stopped in last night at about 9:30 to grab a quick bite. The place was empty - one order ahead of us and one after. The guy at the counter was friendly and took our order right away. Our order was simple - cheeseburger sandwich, cheeseburger hoagie, and fries. "Do you want mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion?" Yes for the sandwich, no onion for the hoagie but yes to everything else. "Here or to go"? Here. Fifteen minutes later, we finally received our food wrapped up to go. The fries had been sitting on the counter for about 5 of those minutes and were ice cold. The rest of the food was good but the burger in the hoagie was pretty dry/overcooked. They put onions on the hoagie and I'm positive the guy didn't put onion on the ticket. The bread was fantastic. Overall, pretty disappointed. Solid Yelp reviews but my experience was not great. The food tastes good but there really isn't any reason why they shouldn't be able to execute a simple order correctly with 3 guys in the kitchen and only 3 orders to make.

Disappointed, had the deli sub and it was ok, would not go out of my way to get a hoagie there. Will go there again and try the gradma pizza next time.

Ended up at Palumbo's for dinner today - Sunday evening. We were a bit late for dinner for Harrisburg - 8:45 PM. Most of the places start shutting down at this time but Palumbo's was busy even at this time. Its a small place - 8 tables and all save one were taken. we ordered 6 chicken wings (hot) and a small pizza with a whole bunch of toppings. Small was 14 inches! I requested the toppings be extra cooked as I dont like to eat raw toppings on my pizza. Most places dont ever cook the toppings to my liking but I was not disappointed here :) 1 big star for that! Wings and Pizza were good tho it took forever to arrive. There was a constant stream of people coming in and ordering take out or eating in even by the time we were done with our dinner. Definitely a place to pick when you want good food but nothing fancy!

In the opinion of this visiting New Yorker, Palumbo's has just what you'd want in a late-night slice of grandma-style pizza. I stayed away from the chicken, BBQ, and broccoli 'pizza', as is my wont, and ignored the loud sports on the TV, but the grandma pizza hit the spot. Cheap, too.

  • Deric L.

Up to now, I've been in a few times for a quick bite. I was consistently pleased with the food and (counter) service. Tonight, I ordered a Grandma's for carryout ... First off, the gentleman who took my order by phone was friendly and gladly answered my questions (Is the Grandma's just one size? Yes. I know it's square; is it roughly equivalent to your typical large? It has 12 slices.). So, the pizza was ready at promised time. Let me tell you, this thing is a beast! I couldn't believe how heavy the sucker was. I'm thinking this is probably a pretty good value at $14.95. Grandma did not disappoint: She's dense and slightly spicy, topped with a flavorful cheese. The sauce was delicious, lending a light black pepper spiciness to the affair. Bear in mind, it's a dish (though not deep-dish) pizza, so it's not a crispy crust. It was pretty supportive, though. The only thing I wished was that it had more flavor; good, but not perfect. Highly recommended. I'll definitely do this again ...

I was out in PA on business, and after a few stiff drinks at the Hilton bar I wandered down the street for some Philly style grub. I found some great pie here, but the star was the Stromboli - it was filled with great cheese, and cured meats. awesome flavor and healthy serving for the price. If you need some flavorful sustenance, stop in a eat!

I have always loved the mama's pizza, but I recently tried the buffalo chicken pizza which I also was impressed with. It is a great combo of spicy and cheesy. I often try many slices if their speciality pizza and it's all good. I am a big fan of Palumbo's, it's a great spot for late night eats.

I dont eat pizza a lot, once every couple months or so, but when I do I always wish it was Palumbo's. Been going there since I was in college near Harrisburg and stop every chance I get. The BBQ, Buffalo Chicken, and Plain are my favorites.

  • Derek M.

Really wondering all of the rave reviews after visiting this place. We arrived before 5 pm on a rainy weeknight, with a near-empty restaurant, and I thought service would be fairly speedy. There are just 7 booths inside, and basically nothing else. Pizza is served on bulk cheap paper plates. But our "15 minute" wait was closer to half an hour, for one pizza. It was the chicken bruschetta, and the crust wasn't bad, the cheese was good, but the chicken--yikes. It was basically boiled chicken--not seasoned, not flavored, not grilled, not seared. Just chopped boiled white meat strewn (albeit generously) over the top. I've had much better pizza. I've also had much worse, so 3 stars it is.

  • Jon S.

AVERAGE, average, average pizza....and I have tried them all! I am a pizza connoisseur. HARRISBURG pizza has NO TASTE and this is just like every other pizza place in and about town. I spend half my time in the DC area (which has some fantastic pizza joints) and half my time in Harrisburg. I have found only ONE pizza in the Harrisburg area worth eating at all and THIS IS NOT IT! This may actually be the overall worst pizza I've had in the area. DO NOT order toppings on your pizza. The black olives were old, tough and tasteless. The freshness of the toppings tells you so much about the rest of the pie. The sausage gave me stomach cramps. The pepperoni had no taste. I think the toppings are poor quality. The only reason I am only giving Palumbo's two stars is because they....actually, I don't know why I am giving them two stars....I just don't have the heart to give them one. NOW, because I am addicted to pizza and because man was not meant to eat just one type of pizza, I am doomed to try every pizza joint within a 15 mile radius of Harrisburg in my search for great pizza. I DO NOT want average pizza! If you cannot make a great pizza, get out of the business. Note: I don't know why every pizza joint in the Harrisburg area makes its pizza ahead of time, half bakes it, sets it on the counter and waits until late in the day when someone finally orders some and then throws it back into the oven to reheat it. No wonder Harrisburg pizza is so awful. They actually charge money for this stuff? In all seriousness, I am going to complain to the governor of PA as soon as I am done with this review. Just as I posted this, I saw someone's claim that Palumbo's is "a popular post-clubbing spot on 2nd Street." I guess so....1) Palumbo's is probably the only place still open and 2) the "clubbers" are drunk and will eat anything, including this stuff.

  • Lauren L.

I could not be more disappointed in Palumbos. I called to order a pizza expecting to arrive to pick up in 30 minutes. I thought it was smart to give them an understanding of when I would arrive so the pizza would be out of the oven in time. The guy on the phone pretty much told me he's not sure if they're going to be open much longer bc they want to close early for the game. He asked if I could come in earlier which I couldn't because I was making my way into town. Mind you I called at 6:10. I asked him if I should just order elsewhere and he said no, no we'll have it for you. We pick the pizza up and drive 3 minutes home to find our pizza was barely luke warm. It tasted like it had been sitting out on the counter all day under a heat lamp. I fight to come here because I've always liked their pizza, but it was literally embarrassing serving what I took home tonight. I will not be returning, and recommend to all trying Vinny Vegas pizza in camp hill instead. They never disappoint.

I used to live in DC and when people asked me where to get good pizza in DC I would say Harrisburg. I've traveled 5 hours on a whim just to get a pie of Grandma's and it's just as good the next day if you make sure to get it crispy in the oven.

Good for a quick bite after clubbing downtown. The pizza is ok for the area. It's a small venue so take out is best.

  • Mia K.

Yelp should have a category for drunken munchies - rather than me having to categorize restaurants as to what they actually serve. Palumbo's is a relatively big pizzeria at the southish end of restaurant row/the club and bar scene. They specialize in pizza obviously but they have other things as well - including garlic knots. I was so happy to have garlic knots when I tried them that I didn't care that they were absolute rubbish. The pizza isn't bad - and it's even less bad after a night of libations.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
