Good food, very friendly service, reasonable prices. Our appetizers, fried rice and Vietnamese coffee were great. The veggies in my pho were nice & fresh. I would have given five stars if the pho broth had been richer, but I got the vegetarian kind, so maybe that's why it was slightly t weak. A tiny splash of hoisin & some sriracha perked it up nicely, though. It is always a nice touch when places offer vegetarian pho!

Terrible pho. I was in Harrisburg for work and saw the great reviews for this place. I should have turned away when I walked in and was the only person in the restaurant, but I decided to give it a try nonetheless. I ordered the Pho Ga and fresh spring rolls. I was soooo disappointed in everything about the two dishes. Usually, fresh spring rolls are almost like little portable salads with a variety of greens and vegetables wrapped inside rice paper. Often, shredded mint is added to the greens to bring out the flavor. These buggers, however, were filled only with rice sticks, shredded iceberg lettuce, and soggy shrimp. The dipping sauce was watered down peanut sauce. They were such a let down. Pho's most delicious element is it's broth, which is generally made by simmering beef bones, oxtails, flank steak, charred onion, charred ginger and spices, which can include clove, star anise, coriander seed, fennel, cinnamon, black cardamom, ginger and onion. This broth, however, tasted like a chicken bouillon cube. And watered down at that. The hoisin sauce was salty, not sweet. The sriracha sauce was like none I'd ever tried, it had a kick, but not the great flavor of the classic rooster sauce most people are used to. And they served cilantro on the garnish plate, along with the customary limes and bean sprouts. I was hoping for Thai basil, or at least some culantro but was told that they only served cilantro. I took two sips of the steaming broth but couldn't bother with it any more. It was the most underwhelming, bland, and generic version of pho I've ever had. If you know your pho, don't eat here. If you don't know pho, try somewhere else.

I want to give this place 5 stars - our server was great and pho had better flavor than Vietnamese Garden over on Reilly, but it falls short on a couple of areas. Here's the breakdown: Bf and I went on a Sunday. Even though their sign says that they open at 4:30 pm, I wouldn't recommended getting there any earlier than 5, and even then expect to wait another half hour after you order because they don't actually start prepping until 4:30. I ordered Shrimp Pho and Hawaiian fried rice, and bf ordered the Dragon and Phoenix at the same time. Pho came out in 20 mins. Bf had to wait another 20 mins for his order and it came with no side of white rice. Both the side of rice and the hawaiian fried rice finally came out as we were getting ready to pay out. Pho - it was good, not the best I've had but the best I've had in Harrisburg so far, but that isnt saying much since I've only tried 3 Vietnamese places in town. I like that this place gives you the option of either beef or chicken broth. Broth had a nice flavor, however there was no basil! Only cilantro. Hawaiian fried rice - I wouldn't order it again. It was drenched in soy sauce and missing the pineapple (if I didn't want pineapple i could have just ordered the shrimp fried rice). Dragon and Phoenix - bf liked it a lot. Like mentioned, our server was nice. Food was hit or miss but the strawberry smoothie was excellent.

Made a lunch trip to Rose's, and I'm glad I did! The food was very good and the service was quick! Started with the basic shrimp-n-pork spring rolls. They were quite large, and the accompanying peanut sauce was excellent. Next was the basic sliced-beef pho. I ordered the large size, because it was only 50 cents more...but now I'm so full, I wish I had gotten the small. The beef was perfect - not fatty or stringy like I've had at some of the other local places - and the broth was hot and flavorful. After maybe half way through the bowl of pho, I added some of the chili sauce. Most places use the Huy fong Sriracha sauce, but Rose's appears to either decant it into their own generic bottles, they use some other brand, or they make their own. Regardless, it was tasty, and it definitely snuck up on me! By the time I got to the end of the bowl, my sinuses were nice and clear! The worst thing about Rose's was the sound, or lack of it. There was a small TV going, but it had the sound turned all the way down. And there was a radio playing, but it was turned down and tuned between stations, so all I heard was mostly static. Other than that, it was very quiet in the place. It's a shame, because visually, the interior is one of the nicer looking pho places in town. Anyway, the food was good, and it was served very quickly. I have no problem with going back in the future. I look forward to trying more things on the menu!

I have never had a bad experience at Rose's. I am a very big fan of Vietnamese food and this is one of the better Harrisburg options. I tend towards spring rolls and bun so I can't speak on the pho, but I have been very pleased with the quality on every visit and I ve been there probably ten times. It s not much to look at (being next door to a garage is a little creepy), but the staff is friendly (even when their english is questionable) and service is usually above average. Recommended!

I have to be honest. Perhaps all my Vietnamese dining experiences while living in bigger cities on the West Coast and Asian ethnicity have been all wrong, but I don't find this place to be very good. A small pho is very small, and you don't get substantially more in ordering a large. Sure, the price is only $6.50 and $6.95 respectively, but let's talk about substance. Authentic pho contains tendon, tripe, and fatty flank (b/c if I just wanted "soup" I'd go to Giant). At Rose's, the broth tastes like bouillion cube inspired rather than boiled beef bone, and all you get is a couple pieces of flank. By the way, some flank looked oddly like bacon. Hmmm... I also remember the familiar sound of a microwave door shutting, microwave digits being pushed, and microwave cooking. : \ Being Asian and new to the area, I really hope and push for Rose's to be successful, that is why my review is so harsh. By no means is this an Asian-on-Asian Restaurant diatribe. I don't condone the crab pot theory. Sure businesses adapt to communities and its customers, but I don't think Harrisburg would be too unforgiving if a Vietnamese restaurant seemed more, well, Vietnamese. Like I said, I don't post this critique to thwart away customers. I write this to give Yelpers looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine a heads up. Isn't this why you're on Yelp looking for Vietnamese food in the first place?

Wife and I swung in here a few days ago for dinner. The weather was cold, and that's the perfect time for Vietnamese. The dining room was pretty much empty on a Thursday so they made the order of chicken noodle soup and a noodle bowl with pork and egg roll pretty quickly. Food tasted really good and Rose fluttered back and forth making sure everything was ok with our food and had no problems with informing us if we did have a problem to let her know. The meal went off without a hitch and no issues arose. We'll be back again to order more items. It looks like there's many more things that sound tasty.

I was spending quality family time with my niece and conducting some discount shopping in the Harrisburg area when lunchtime came around. With her being a vegetarian and me wanting to be the "cool uncle," I looked for something new for her to try. After attempting Thai and failing (two places were closed due to it being July 6th...4th of July observed) we ended up here at Meiji's Vietnamese. Atmosphere - Definitely a local Mom & Pop feel, located in an older mini strip mall that had me turning around to find, clean inside, nicely laid out, overall a relaxing ambiance. Service - Friendly, Helpful, Quick Food - I had the Chicken Noodle Soup (which was basically Pho w/ chicken) and my niece had the Rice Noodle Soup w/ Mixed vegetables (which was basically a vegetarian Pho). To drink my niece ordered the mango smoothie, which I also tried. Our Pho arrived with the usual sides of bean sprouts, lime wedges, sliced jalapeno peppers, and fresh cilantro. All the ingredients seemed freshly prepared and of good quality. My Pho w/ chicken arrive with a proper temperature for the broth, with nice big slices of thin white meat chicken, super thin slices of sweet onion, and freshly cut chives visible on top. The noodles were cooked well and the broth had a nice flavor. It was not the best Pho broth I have ever had, but it was good. My niece's vegetarian Pho looked very appetizing and included chunks of tofu for the protein in the dish. I tried a spoonful of this Pho and despite the lack of meat, I would've been happy ordering it myself. The mango smoothie appeared to be just some ripe mango blended with ice. It was tasty in its basicness. Overall - I was happy with the meal, as was my niece. I would stop here again if I were ever in the area, as I would like to try some of their other dishes too.

Before I write this review, I should preface that I grew up in Southern California where there are lots and lots of Vietnamese restaurants. With this said, my expectations were a little high. I ordered the spring rolls and the vermicelli noodle bowl with grilled pork/egg roll. Both dishes were fresh and made to order. The dishes tasted yummy but lacked a little bit of authenticity. I cannot be certain but I believe it's because both dishes lacked cilantro. I cannot speak for the Pho though since I have not had it yet. I'll have to give this restaurant another try before ruling this place out. Good place to go to if you're looking for a Vietnamese food fix. Staff is EXTREMELY friendly (Staff gets a 5-star rating).

Great Pho! Spring and egg rolls were great as well. Broth is flavorful and noodles cooked well, but perhaps lacked spiciness - not a huge problem for me but I know some people like their Pho to burn out their insides. Also not a huge variety of content in it, but beef was great quality and very tasty Prices were good, and one small pho is more than enough for lunch, and maybe even dinner. Staff was very friendly, and attentive. it's in a pretty bleak strip-mall, but the interior is fine, and I almost felt cosy (but don't go here based on that).

Spurred on by the enthusiastic feedback from Harrisburg Yelpers, I ventured into Rose's Vietnamese a couple months ago and, according to my standards, have become a semi-regular!!! First of all, the owner, Rose aka Kim, is super nice and extremely accommodating to special requests. Secondly, the food is GREAT! I haven't had a lot of Vietnamese food prior but from what I've tried at Rose's, it's delicious. My favorite dishes by far are the #46 Grilled pork / rice / eggroll and various appetizers. I am a big appetizer person and can make (have made) a meal out of them alone. Love the eggrolls, shrimp / pork summer rolls and the banh mi (sub). I also had a bun stuffed with pork and egg which was quite tasty as well. I agree with most other diners in asking to replace the sweet sauce with the peanut and yes, Amy G., I could lick the bowl clean too (LOL) because it's that good. I had the fried noodle with chicken (subbed with pork) and vegetables and that was good too! My next item to try is the pho, which I'm sure will be just as yummy as everything else I've tried. Thanks, all, for letting me and the rest of Harrisburg know about this hidden treasure!

food was good and service was casual and very friendly. started off with cha gio (fried spring rolls) and goi coun (fresh shrimp and pork rolls). the peanut hoisin sauce was good but the nuoc cham (fish dipping sauce) was a little weak, perhaps watered down to appeal to a larger customer base? for entrees my other half had beef pho and I enjoyed the grilled pork with egg casserole over rice (#45). was in the area and decided to give Rose's Vietnamese a try for lunch. if in the area again, would not mind stopping by again..

My husband and I have been spoiled on the original Pho restaurants in Virigina. Rose's folks were nice and friendly! However, I give their food a C. We only had the Pho - it was quite bland tasting to me. We will not go back. If you are looking for what the Pho tastes like in Virginia, try Ninh Kieu. :D I'm going to write a review there shortly.

Originally called Rose's, has been operated as Meiji for the past few years. This is a great vietnamese restaurant, they have good spring rolls and excellent pho soup. They have been open since about late summer / fall of 2005. my favorite item is the Com Dia pork chop with fried egg, jasmine rice and a small mini-salad consisting of a few leaves of lettuce, tomato slices and cucumber. They recently expanded their menu to have a far larger variety of items. for a very long time they did not sell any fried beef, only fried pork, but i will say that their sweet sauce for the rice is far better than Garden Vietnamese, Ninh Kieu, Cafe 88 or Little Siagon. Standard pho soup 6.50, standard dinner / lunch dish is 7.50 Yeah the hours of operation are from m-f 10 am - 2:30 pm and 5pm - 9, then 10 am - 9 pm on saturday pm, and they're closed sunday. This place used to be called Siagon Delite way way way back when but then was closed for a number of years. And regarding the substitutions mentioned in the other reviews I had repeatedly asked for them to add beef items to the menu, it was always pork, after their first year or so they did add beef to the menu. What is a Vietnamese Sub you ask? it is mega spicy and sweet at the same time. its basically a small roll thats glazed with a sweet sauce, sliced orange & white carrots, sliced pork and jalapeno peppers. DELICIOUS!!!!

If you are in the mood for Vietnamese, this isn't a bad choice. When I am craving Vietnamese food, that means I want to get some pho. There are a good amount of Vietnamese places in the Harrisburg area, and Meiji's does a decent job. I had the beef and beef meatball pho, and it was a filling lunch. The price was right ($6) for the pho. The broth tasted good, it was definitely homemade, but it was missing some of the herbal and spice notes that make me crave pho (notably anise, clove, ginger) but it was still a good lunch. The vegetables were fresh, and the meat tender. Their variety of pho isn't a big as some places, but they have all the basics. I prefer a couple other Vietnamese places in the area, but if I am out near Meiji's I would go back. The staff is very friendly, which is a big plus.

Overview: Wonderful little find tucked away in a rather shady looking strip mall! Food: My boyfriend and I shared the shrimp spring rolls and pork banh mi. Both were excellent. They give a good amount of peanut dipping sauce for the spring rolls and the flavor is really good. The banh mi was particularly tasty. Great flavor with a good kick to it, too. For our entrees, we both had the sliced beef and meatball soup. We ordered larges and wow, are they LARGE. I couldn't finish mine! The flavor, however, was really good. The broth was perfect and the noodles were great. I thought there was a good amount of beef and meatballs added as well. Recommend: Everything I had was delicious, but I would particularly recommend the banh mi for an appetizer. Atmosphere: Okay, this place is legitimately in a shady dying strip mall with a tattoo parlor. Had it not been for Yelp, I doubt I would have even known it was there. Inside it's a bit rough around the edges, but the tables seem clean. Service: Our server was wonderful. He was very attentive and friendly.

Service was wonderful! Had the "Ryan special"(chicken) soup, comes with 2 spring rolls for just $8.95. I also recommend the house special soup(beef, tendon and meatball). Ask for extra noodles for 1 dollar extra!!! Broth is rich and tasty and small bowl is pretty big. Great place, great service, a must try in Harrisburg :)

I had the pork banh mi and it was very good. The pork was a little sweet (hoison sauce?) and the pickled veggies were fresh. The roll could have used a little more crunch or toasting. The service was great, attentive without being annoying. When I was seated he asked with a smile, "are you here for the soup?" - I didn't want to miss something that sounded like it was what everyone came in for, so I ordered a small chicken pho to go. It was all packaged nicely (broth separate, the only way to get pho to go). The chicken was cooked nicely and very tender, there was plentiful noodles, chicken slices, bean sprouts, etc. The broth was a little over salted, but had a good flavor. I would absolutely go back again with friends to share the goodness with them!

Love Meiji!! My office orders from Meiji several times a week and Jon (the owner) is so courteous and never forgets our orders. We are so happy with the pho and the other dishes each and everytime we order! We all think it is phenomenal! That is probably why we order at least three times a week. They are very easy to order from on the phone and are so helpful when you are carrying five to eight orders of pho to your car. Great service and great food- you can't beat it!

This place was a find! Inexpensive (including the 10% off total bill yelp coupon), they catered to me (I am a vegan and they were eager to make me vegan food), and my goodness it was SO delicious. Don't expect the atmosphere to blow you away, it's a bit strange, but the staff is VERY friendly. Summary, wonderful service, friendly staff, quick and delicious food, and very inexpensive. I'd only had Vietnamese once before, and in NYC, so I was expecting to be let down but oh my goodness, Rose's was wonderful. Walking in, it looks kinda like walking into someone's dining room-- the decor is simple and homey. We were greeted warmly and led to a table. The service was impeccable and we were treated more like guests than like customers. I really like that. To start, we had shrimp and pork spring rolls which arrived very cold and very fresh. The peanut dipping sauce was excellent and then made better by the addition of some hot sauce. Speaking of drinks, we both had the fresh lemonade, and it was awesome. For our entrees, we shared a #28, three different styles of pork and a plate of rice and lemongrass grilled chicken. The pork was marinated in something sweet that resulted in pig candy. SO GOOD! I only wish we had ordered a large instead of a small. The lemongrass chicken had an odd texture for white meat and while I was a little skeptical before tasting, it was so good, I forgot about my previous hesitation. The garnish of vegetables was cold, crisp and perfectly refreshing. I only wish there was more of it.

This is a place you could easily just drive past. It is located in a dingy strip mall. The inside surely needs a makeover, but is "homey". More importantly this restaurant is loaded with great food at reasonable prices and served with *love*. Wonderfully flavorful Pho (wonton soup is excellent as well). Spring rolls and peanut dipping sauce are yummy. Try the Banh mi! Rose is an angel. Closed Sundays.

I feel Roses has the best Vietnamese food in the area. I tried all of the other places and all though the others are good, Roses edges them out. A very large menu to choose from. Everything is very tasty. Service can be a little slow when they are busy but worth the wait. Pho is awesome. UPDATE- under new management. Stopped in tonight (9/11) and saw the name changed and new workers. I can not comment on the food because it was so hot inside we had to leave. This was a problem with Roses too, too hot but tonight was just not tolerable so we left to go to another place. Fix the ac system and we will try the new place.. I dont think this new place should be able to piggy back off of the reviews Roses got. its a new business all together, just in the same place. Yelp should close Roses reviews and only allow new ones for Meijjis. Edit- 10-8-11. got take out tonight. The Pho was as good as roses, did not have any basil though. Got a chicken sub, very good, never had one before. The egg rolls were good, different than roses but still good. Have not had an entree yet but so far will keep my 5 star review. The staff is very friendly.. update- 6/12. If I cam rate this place 10 stars I would for their vietnamese food. Chinese is good, not great but good and as good a most other chinese place around here. The vietnamese wonton soup is out of this world. Not your chinese wonton soup. Homemade borth (similiar to their chicken PHO broth) with very good filling in the wontons. Grilled shrimp with vermicelli again, 10 stars. Everything is fresh, the shrimp, the lettuce/carrots/cabbage in the salads etc. best ever. update 4/13 WOW, the pho is even better than ever. not sure what changed but what I thought was already excellent pho is now even better. There are some pho snobs out there that say this place or that place is better. all I have to say is try them all and decide for yourself. The chinese mogolian beef was also good. It was not the thick gooey sauce you get at most take out joints but was a very light sauce, nicely balanced and thin tender slices of beef.

We've been going to Rose's for awhile now. Everyone's positive reviews are spot-on. The food and service are wonderful. I almost always get the same thing (vegetable pho with tofu or shrimp spring rolls and coffee). Its probaly already been mentioned... but Rose's is the only Vietnamese restaurant around that makes vegan pho. This version is just as good as a beef-base (last visit my mom said she liked the vegetarian broth even better!). After visiting other places and you return to Rose's, you will notice how flavorful and complex her broth is. When I stray from soup, I will order the curry tofu, full of tumeric spice and very delicious. I've also been told the lemongrass dishes are very good.

By far the best Vietnamese in the Harrisburg area. Very good food. I eat there once a week. If you are obsessed with Vietnamese food and you're willing to make the trip, there is actually a better resto in Lancaster. It's called Rice and Noodle, yelp.com/biz/rice-and-no… . I know, I know, no place could possibly be better than Roses. Trust me, one foodie to another, it is better. In fact, it's so good, it's really in a class by itself.

The spring rolls are really good! Definitely buy them! I got the Pork and Egg roll over white rice. It was pretty good for my first Vietnamese meal! Very different tasting food...but a good different. The place was kind of tacky and out dated. There service was excellent!

I LOVE this restaurant. Having grown up and eaten Vietnamese food in northern VA where there is a huge Vietnamese population, I thought I had eaten the best Vietnamese food in the USA. I humbly admit that I was flat out wrong. Rose's is the best Vietnamese food in the USA. You might think I'm being paid a kick-back but I'm not. I'm just being brutally honest. This is one of my top five restaurants in the area. If you suggest it, I will meet you there. I have never had a bad meal. I could go on and on but if I try to tell you about every good item on the menu I might as well just copy the menu and say pick anything. The soups are great. The add-in plate with the fresh cilantro, lime wedge, jalapeno pepper slices, fresh basil, and bean sprouts is always fresh and crisp. Don't you just hate it when a restaurant brings you the plate and the bean sprouts have those brown and mushy ends that look like they've started to rot? You never see that at Rose's. All of the pho options are wonderful - whatever she puts into the broth really makes the dish because the other ingredients are basic. I love the sweet peanut dipping sauce for the non-fried spring rolls. I could literally lick the bowl clean. But to be polite, I use a finger when no one is looking. I always come back to the #27 - it's my favorite entree. Rice noodles, pork, fried spring roll, pickled vegetables, amazing sauce. Ahhh, it was only a few days ago, but I'm already craving it again. I'm glad to see the Rainbow Ice dessert back on the menu. I can't wait to go back soon just to get that dessert! The service is always gracious and Kim makes sure you are happy with your meal. If you need something, she'll get it for you if she has it. It's not a fancy place but it's nice. There is some parking out front and it's easy only about 5 minutes from down town Harrisburg. We go there at least once every 1-2 months.

Wonderful food at great prices. Simple, clean decor. Tried a couple of different types of pho, it was excellent. The spring rolls are pretty good, but could be served colder. Love the iced coffee. Rose is very friendly, I'll definitely be back.

Because of all the good reviews, we went there for dinner. I don't feel comfortable in this area at night, there is not much parking so could not park right in front of the place. The food is way too salty (broth & sauce) and there is nothing to brag about. We had the beef pho, spring rolls and steamed buns with meat and grilled chicken baguette. Don't expect much service here. When you eat out in general, lets hope our immune systems are strong enough to fight off the unsanitary food handling practices. Finally, the place is too quite (no music), so you can hear all the commotion in the kitchen.

I think this is my only 5 star rating! It's been a while so let me get started. I love this place. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. It is located just east of reservoir Park on the Walnut street side in Penbrook. They offer a variety of Vietnamese dishes and special made to order meals. Kim will cater to your every need and she is very hospitable as well as easy on the eyes and a great personality. I am most impressed that she will cater to your order in spite of the menu. Most Vietnamese places stick strictly to the recipe, she will do so but add or subtract what you want or don't. The spring rolls are huge and her rice dishes are plenty. Her soup rivals the Vietnamese Garden on 3rd and Reily streets but a better more relaxed (sanitary) atmosphere. The place is very clean, roomy, as well as the restrooms. She has a Private area that can seat up to 50 if you call ahead. A wide range of foods (more than any other Vietnamese Restaurant in the area) and she takes major credit/check cards and cash. Take out is available and is usually completed within 15 min. Parking can be better as that part of Walnut Street is weird. Pros: Variety, Cleanliness, Restrooms, Atmosphere, Open on a Monday (now Sundays too) and Prices. Cons: Weird hours but usually fits the normal 9 to 5er. Parking is ok but Walnut street gets busy. *Note* Try the Sub. I never had a Vietnamese Sub before, it is Delicious. Also, not as crowded at lunch like Vietnamese Garden.

I've only been there a few times to get take-out pho. I have yet to try any other vietnamese dish other than pho. Judging by the reviews on this restaurant, perhaps I'll do that the next time I go. I will say...the pho there is delicious, the restaurant is clean and the service is relatively quick. Not to mention, the food is very well priced.

Super good food. I've been looking for good Vietnamese since I moved to the area and I finally found it. The Pho broth was wonderful, the peanut dipping sauce for the fresh spring rolls is amazing and the lemongrass beef was tender and flavor-packed. The staff was so kind and gracious. The decor is sparse, but the tables were well-cleaned. My hubby had the spicy pho and was very impressed (it was super-spicy). I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the much-needed interior renovations.

We had the pho and the spring rolls (fried) and they were very good. What I liked about the pho is that you could choose between a curry paste or spicy paste (or both) to be added to your pho broth. The service is the best among all the Vietnamese restaurants in the area. They had two waiters/waitresses during lunch service so there was no waiting to be served and they were very attentive. Only drawback is that if you come during a busy time it will be hard to get parking.

Well to start my dad owns the tattoo shop Red Beard in the same mall strip located near Roses Vietnamese so I'm near that area a lot. I first fell in love with Vietnamese food when Rose's was previously owned by Nick aka Saigon Delight. He had excellent food however unfortunate things had happened within his family and the restaurant was closed. So I was excited to see it reopened as another Vietnamese restaurant!! The new owner is very friendly and attentive! I've been coming here for several years but always get the same thing... I can't help it... just my favorite meal! I start out with the fresh spring rolls that pairs so nicely with the sweet peanut sauce, and then also get an order of the fried egg rolls that are packed with flavor and soak them in the clear fish sauce. I always share either with my mom or sister. If you love avocados then you must try the avocado shake. Its always the next part of my meal. Its very thick and has a delicate sweet natural taste which helps cool down the spicy curry chicken dinner. The curry chicken has various levels of spice and heat. Sweet onions and carrots help balance the delicious brown sauce which is poured over rice. So yummy!! I have also had the Pho soup which is fresh and delicious. Although I only like to eat it in the restaurant... it does not taste as good reheated. My boyfriend hates vegetables and is very picky... so I was afraid he would not like eating here... but he loves the grilled pork over rice which is served with an egg roll. This is a great place to eat... my whole family loves it! :)

I will be returning to Rose's. Although the decor and ambiance of the restaurant leaves room to be desired, the real important thing is the food. The food at rose's is definitely worth four stars. Carry out is the way to go here IMO. Give it a try!

I give this four Harrisburg stars. Elsewhere, three, or maybe even two. But this is Harrisburg. Rose's Vietnamese gets major props for having such a friendly and attentive owner, and a good selection of vegetarian options for any Vietnamese restaurant. Also, the portions are really substantial, especially for the low, low prices. But the food itself? Meh. I ordered the vegetarian pho (which I have had delicious versions of...it's all about the broth spices) and some tofu/vegetable curry things. The fiancé (a native New Yorker who's had his share of good Vietnamese food) had chicken pho and...um...something else with meat. He liked both dishes and was quite satisfied with his selections. I'll just chock that up to his indiscriminate food tendencies (if you're reading this babe...don't worry, I still love you). Because me? I found the vegetarian pho almost inedible it was so salty, and seriously lacking in flavor. Where was the anise? The cinnamon? etc. :( It was, however, chock full of vegetables, though its flavor would have been greatly improved by the presence of some mushrooms. Thank goodness the boy barely touched the plate of cilantro and lime, because I had to use it all in mine, and still felt it was lacking. Also, where the heck was the basil? Being able to add basil would have improved it for sure. The curry? Don't get me started. It's rare that I don't eat leftovers, but despite still being hungry at the restaurant, I could barely even choke them down there. The tofu was nice and crisp on the outside with the perfect amount of chewy on the inside, but the sauce was so. freaking. bitter. It had very little flavor and the texture and bitterness reminded me of condensed stuff straight out of a jar that you need to add to a soup or coconut milk or something. And for how salty the pho was, this was not at all salty. I had to soy sauce the heck out of it. I'll return, just because food options are so limited in Harrisburg, especially for vegetarians, and fiancé enjoyed it. Also, the owner made me feel loved. But the food is nothing to go crazy about, at least not in my opinion. Is there better in New York? You bet, and it isn't hard to find. At all. But for Harrisburg, it's a keeper.

I'm not exactly a Vietnamese food connesseur...konnesaur...coinesseur...uhh...Âexpert, but I had a great experience there. Went there for lunch with a coworker and I had some great pho. It had an interesting sweet taste to it. We also got spring rolls. Their spring rolls are huge and they provide a great portion size. All for a good price. No reason not to return soon.

We decided to try it based on all the good reviews. Well Yelp, you steer me wrong!! The spring rolls are definitely homemade, somewhat tasty but very greasy. Pho is just bland, pork chops are over marinaded. We felt very uncomfortable there since we were the only table on a Friday evening. No music in the dinning room, all you can hear is the noise from the TV that Rose's folks were watching in the next room......

I was in a hurry, so I called when I was about 7 minutes away for a take out order. When I arrived all of the sprouts, cilantro and everything else including heusain sauce was all neatly packaged and ready to go! Top notch and very professional. As a side, pho is hard to eat when you're riding shotgun in a car.

I've been here 3 or 4 times only to be disappointed every time. The pho is wack for lack of a better word. The Bo Tai Chanh is supposed to be raw but maybe for the Americans they cook it (Boo to that). Keep the damn tradition. They have a vast menu but never have what I order. Also, the lotus, pork and shrimp salad was missing the main ingredient, LOTUS. Seriously? The service is horrible even when they are slow. You are probably wondering why I went back after the first time. I was trying to give her another chance and ended up giving too many chances. I'm not even mad at the appearance of the restaurant. In a previous review they stated the decor leaves room to be desired and the important thing is the food. Well they failed on that so what is left? Nothing. I'm sorry Rose but your restaurant sucks.

My wife and I loved this place. As other people have mentioned in their reviews, don't let the look of the building turn you away (it's not that bad really) as the food and service were exceptional. All of the food was excellent, great subtle flavors and very refreshing. The steamed egg rolls and the ginger shrimp I had were fantastic. Highly recommended.

Harrisburg is lucky enough to have a variety of Vietnamese restaurants to choose from: Pho Vietnam, Little Saigon, Garden Vietnamese, and Rose's Vietnamese Cuisine. I have been to all 4 (if you know of any others please let me know) as well as the Vietnamese food stand in the Broad Street Market called Golden Gate, and I honestly have a very tough time trying to choose which spot has the best cuisine. What I can speak to are my individual experiences at each place separately, and I am happy to make recommendations to all 5 spots. I went to Rose's not long ago, and believe me I have always been skeptical, but my curiosity and love of Vietnamese cuisine eventually led me inside the place. It's located in a small strip mall a few miles outside of downtown Harrisburg on Walnut Street. Like all the other Vietnamese restaurants around Harrisburg, Rose's isn't much to look at once inside. But to me it's really not about aesthetics unless I'm paying for it, and Rose's is anything but expensive. I went with the lemon grass grilled chicken over white rice. The wait was a little longer than expected but believe you me, it was well worth it. The chicken was really like nothing I've ever had before. I can honestly say I've never had chicken that tasted so fresh and so tender, it was incredible! It was later explained to me that the delay in receiving my food was because they only make the chicken after you order it, everything is made fresh. I can live with that for sure. On the way out I had a short chat with Rose herself (I had to compliment the food) and she assured me that her restaurant sold the best Pho in Harrisburg so naturally I am planning a return visit. Exceptional food, I fully endorse Rose's Vietnamese Cuisine.

Delicious pho and spring rolls. Very nice staff and service. Extremely cheap prices (which was the difference for me between a 4 and 5 rating). Family of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) ate for less than $80. It's BYOB and the decor isn't too hot. There's literally an area where the owners' child plays on the floor near the dining tables with an opened toy box where toys are thrown all over the floor. So that wasn't too inspiring. Only real complaint is the meatball pho seemed to have only about 2 meatballs in it. The meatballs were cut in like 8ths so it seemed like more meat than it was. Apparently, it's $2.00 extra for a bigger serving of meat but that is sort of buried in the menu and didn't figure that out until after the food was served.

An unassuming front on this little family restaurant doesn't give you a clue to the good food awaiting. Communications with waiter acceptable. The food mid afternoon came out hot and fast. Our only caution is that if you want to eat an appetizer or soup or salad BEFORE your meal arrives you had best make that known or order first things first and delay ordering main course. Everything came at once.

Pho is just average. Service is excellent. To all those reviewers who say this is the the best pho in Harrisburg, they obviously have not eaten at Garden Vietnamese at 3rd and Reiley. It is heads and shoulders above This place. Not to put this place down its clean, has great service and good food it's just not at the level of Garden.

Quiet, small, friendly and excellent food. Pho is fantastic and it is BYOB. I stop in for at leat 1 meal, every time in in town for business. Definitely reccomend for visitors and locals who haven't already discovered Meiji's. Also, it may show up as "Rose's"... beleive that was the previous name... Enjoy.

I've eaten there when it was 'Rose's' and now Meiji's. Not quite the same. Before it was a 4-5, now barely a 3. Either they did not get the original recipe's or they just don't care. Unfortunately, the Pho is not as good, the spring rolls are bland and the 'sub' is not close to the tasty version I once loved. I'll try it one more time before pulling it to a 2 and then off my list of places to eat. Too bad, I really loved this place.

Yelp readers should be aware that most of the old, generally positive, reviews for this restaurant were actually for another Vietnamese restaurant, called Rose's, in the same location. It is baffling to me that Yelp would allow those reviews to stand when the restaurant changed its name (and presumably, ownership). I was drawn to this restaurant when a recent review proclaimed that they served the best pho in town. I beg to differ. While the pho was certainly nice, it is not as good as others in Harrisburg--specifically Vietnamese Garden's pho. Furthermore, it was served with Italian, not Thai, basil and the hoisin sauce on the table was definitely not Lee Kum Kee, it was some significantly saltier knock-off brand. The Sriracha seemed thinner than I'm used to, but no noticeable difference in taste. The soup was loaded with meat and tendon, but no skin or tripe. The broth was nice, but not as richly-flavored as others in town. I will give them kudos for using chives (and lots of them) rather than green onion, but that's about the only thing that sets Meiji's pho apart from the majority of other, perfectly fine, soups in town. My spring roll was pretty much just pork skin, noodles and iceberg lettuce wrapped up. It was bland and flavorless. Other restaurants usually put a mint leaf in this roll, which this was sadly lacking. It was served with a thin, clear, rice vinegar-based dipping sauce which was nice, but not as nice as the brown peanut sauce to which I have become accustomed. What did set this place apart from (most of) the other Vietnamese restaurants in Harrisburg was its cleanliness and service. Meiji's, as far as I could see, was impeccably clean. There was not a spot of dust anywhere nor any dirty dishes left to sit on any of the tables. I was seated and served promptly and my appetizer was brought out before my soup, as it should be. I had just finished my roll when the server brought out my bowl of pho. Most impressively, the server actually brought my check to the table--no other Vietnamese restaurant in Harrisburg (in my experience) does this. My experience, on the whole, was good and I certainly recommend the restaurant. I will happily return. I see banh mi on the menu and I can't wait to sample theirs. I was simply not as impressed as other recent reviewers with their version of my favorite dish, pho.

Well, for years I have driven by this unassuming looking place and have thought about checking it out, but it wasn't until I read all the glowing Yelp reports that I finally ate here. WOW! What a terrific restaurant!!! I can't believe that I'd cheated myself all this time by not having ever come here! First of all, I have NEVER been to a place where the owner and staff have been as friendly and accommodating as they are at Meiji's. Second of all, the food rocks my world! As the other reviews of Meiji's state, Kim (and the other most gracious ladies who work there) is (are) about the most wonderful hostess(es) that God has ever dreamt up! Whatever you want, they'll make it for you! I have NEVER been to a restaurant before where the customer has been such a king. And the food... wow! The broth of the pho is incredibly rich and savory and is loaded with more goods than just about any other Vietnamese restaurant I've been to from HSBG to NYC to FL! Their rice noodles are also the most silky, delicate and perfectly executed of any that I've ever encountered too. If you are a veg (like the one friend I've been there a bunch of times with is), you will not be disappointed either. Besides the abundance of vegetarian fare on the menu, Kim, the most amiable manager (owner?) will alter just about any dish on the menu to suit your dietary needs. Even their venerable banh mi sandwich was turned into a vegetarian delight via tofu sauteed in a savory Vietnamese sauce. Forget the vegetarians though - the grilled pork at Meiji's is probably the tastiest I've ever had in any restaurant anywhere, bar none! The pork in my banh mi (see pic) was a major flavor party happening in my mouth! I've since been back to try said pork in their bun dishes and it is as incredible in the noodles as it is in the sandwich. You guys in Harrisburg are so fortunate to have such a good Vietnamese restaurant in town along with the other one, Garden. I just feel sorry for you for having to make the extremely difficult choice between the two! Meiji's rocks! This is my new restaurant whenever in Harrisburg.

I came here for pho last night while in town for work, can't think of a better dinner on a cold rainy night! This place is "pho"nomenal - get it? Service was great, food came super fast and was hot and delicious. I ordered an appetizer, thai iced tea and a large bowl of the house special pho (beef strips, tendon and meat balls) and my whole bill was $12! The pho was perfect - broth was very flavorful but not overly salty or fake tasting. I agree with a previous reviewer - I don't get how this place is not busier! I really hope that it is more popular with the lunch crowd in the area. Does this place have great atmosphere? No - but you don't come to places like this for the atmosphere. It was clean, cozy and the family who owns/runs it are so sweet.

Always a wonderful place to visit and the food is great. I tend to go at odd hours but they are never busy and the service is always fast and helpful. I have brought a couple of people who were new to Vietnamese food here and the wait staff always answered any questions they had in a helpful manner.

Nice little pho place, I can imagine it being a cozy place to go for soup during the winter months. I was with the snowman who never had pho in his life, we were the only two customers here on a Saturday afternoon, I was thinking mmmm why did it get so many stars and there is nobody here?! I was getting a little worried. With just us in there service was a little slow, but food was good the broth didn't make you smell on your way out, and the fresh rolls was wrapped tightly didn't fall apart. The menu is just as cheap as the pho spots in California.

Okay my friends and I finally tried this place. First lets start with service. The wait staff and host were the nicest people I have ever met. Glasses were full, she delightfully stirred my coffee and gave loads of recommendations on dishes and overall great service. I tried out the lemon grass chicken as recommended and it was fresh and serviced with a soft hot generous portion of rice. We had a mix of starters as well, spring rolls were amazing and the won ton soup had so much flavor. Under $50 for the four of us... are you serious, that is simply amazing and we will be back. Fresh dishes, big portions and great people, this place is indeed a gem.

Probably the best Pho, broth-wise... I've ever had. The broth is the most flavorful I can remember... and the quality of the sliced beef used in the soup is the tops. Noodles are cooked perfectly and not stuck together in a clump. Their spring rolls are very good and once again show this place to be all about the quality. Prices are standard for Vietnamese restaurants around the area... appx $8 for a large Pho. Service is friendly and very helpful.
