The portions are good, lunch special is great for the price. The front cashier is very nice but doesn't seem to be very keen at her job. Lunchtime is always empty in there, not a good sign. Guac needs some work and overall an ok meal.

My wife and I ate there, it was slow but 130 on Fri afternoon, not surprising. The food was awsome! I got a taco salad, my wife got a burrito, also very yummy. I like the feel of this place even though the server did seem a little 'over' attentive, she was nice. The have a side bar with different sauces and condiments that compliment the meal. Overall we loved it! This is a small 'mom n pop' business, I'd much rather patronize (them) than the big chain restaurants. Go Chiko's!!

Just went for lunch having seen reviews in the recent Taco Takedown article. Carne Asada taco. The tortillas are not made in house. The meat was over salted but ok flavor wise. The salsa was oddly sour. Tamales. Actually you only get one. Too much dough around too little filling. Meat was extremely salty. Price even as the special of the day was high for one tamale. The place is clean and the service is friendly. Also, very strangely they play old country music rather than anything Latino.

A few years ago this place opened under a different name at the same location along with an Egyptian place right next door. Both were fantastic but went out of business. I drove by today, and was surprised to see it reopened and I was very pleasantly surprised to see the former owner in the kitchen. I ordered the soft tacos and they were excellent! The chicken was grilled fresh to order, the veggies were fresh, the spices were perfect, the pico de gala was fresh made, and there was lots of fresh cilantro on everything! Please support this place as it is a rare find in Central PA! It is authentic, priced and portioned well, clean and the service is great!

My new favorite place for lunch. My new favorite Mexican restaurant. The $5.99 lunch sopes are fantastic. Only one time was the food less than perfect. On my last visit, the carnitas I ordered on one of the sopes was a little on the dry side. That is the only complaint I have ever had. I can't wait to take my family here. It is so goooooood.

Amazing authentic Mexican food! The best I've found in south central PA!! I have tried several things on the menu and never once have I been disappointed! The owner and his family are super friendly and welcoming! Ask for Nicki to wait on you!! I have to add that when Mellanie C. Posted her review, the new owners had literally just taken over. Her experience is unfortunate however, as a frequent patron here I must say her experience is far from the norm!

I walked in on a tuesday night and this place was dead around 8PM. It looked as if the owner was there with another employee. Both were very nice. I ordered the Ranchero Steak entree and while it was being made, the owner made some homemade salsa with chips, and chopped up fresh cilantro and onions to go in it. This salsa was great and I wasn't charged for it. When my food was ready, I asked for extra hot sauce and he was happy to throw it in for me. This was one of the better meals I have had as the steak was very tender and the beans were good as well. Rice wasn't as great but I was so full from everything else. I would definitely go back here again, do not let the low traffic through there scare you off.

We pulled in the parking lot, with the intent of going to the Jumbo Buffet. But I saw the open sign and made a "U" turn and parked. "Nicole" was working at the register. She was so nice and welcoming!! Grabbed a paper menu and sat down. She brought us chips and salsa. Pico de Gallo is near the soda fountain if needed. We ordered a chimichanga (that thing had to weigh 1 1/2 lb!) and empanadas. I watched him make the empanadas. My dinner came with rice and beans. MMM!!!! The presentation was sooo wonderful. And the pricing is so reasonable!!! Run!!!!!!!! A+++

This Mexican restaurant opened in February this year. I should have known when I entered during the lunch hour and no one was there except the owner and two women. A table of 3 came in after me. They advertise a $5.99 lunch special menu. Sodas in cans and bottles were $2 each, quite a mark up. I had a fountain soda but was not told if that included refill.I chose a chicken chimichanga and a soda. The chimichanga was freshly made on the stove top, not deep fried as many places do. There was no offering of free chips and salsa for me although the table that came after me were given some., and it is stated on their website. It took a reasonable 10 - 15 minutes for my meal to come out. On the plate was the chimichanga, decent size, some salad, a little sour cream and a red type sauce. The chimichanga was hot from the stove which I liked. I could not find much chicken although I know it was in there , the meat portion was very small. The beans were flavorless. I added some hot sauce to try and spice it up. The bill was over $10 and I am not sure how they arrived at that, and I should have questioned that. So bland food, no chips & salsa, and high billing I won't be back. Ps I notice the good reviews are from people who only have one review which makes me suspicious as to how genuine they are, or are they friends of the owner.

Fresh Guacamole was nice and tasty. I think the picture on yelp was a customer whom requested no tomatoes and possibly no cilantro. Horchata is fresh and sweet. House Salsa was awesome, served warm, with chips. I didn't care for the chicken texture in the chicken tacos. It was almost like ground chicken. Flavor was good. White corn tortillas. I tried all the sauces there, enjoyed them all. Pico de gallo was fresh and not over powered with onions. Employees were friendly and helpful.

Used to be called the Taco Shop, but then it was sold to some guys who turned it into a panini place. Original owner is back! It's not super cheap, but it is reasonably priced high quality food with exceptional service. Best Mexican in the area, much better than fiesta Mexico down the street. So glad they are back! Try the guacamole. It's incredible.

Great place for AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Everything is FRESH and made-to-order. The owners are very accommodating, and will answer any questions you have about the menu/make recommendations, etc. Very welcoming and appreciative of patrons. We love it so much that we added it to our regular lunch rotation. ("Mexican Mondays") Check out the Lunch Specials. Great value. Love the Chile Rellenos and the Carnitas. Green Tomatillo salsa is our favorite.

My boyfriend and I stopped here after doing some baby shopping. We had read about them on pennlive and in the "fyi" paper so decided to give them a try. Its a cute little place, i felt it was very homey and relaxed in there. We were the only customers, besides some people who ordered take out, so we decided to eat in. I ordered the Carnitas Verde entrée, comes with rice, refried beans and salad. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos (comes with 3 tacos) and a tamale. After we ordered, the guy brought us fresh salsa and chips right out the fryer. Everything was delicious! The carnitas just melted in your mouth! I reluctantly let my boyfriend taste some, and he enjoyed it as well. I didn't taste any of his tacos or tamale but he thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Its very hard to find authentic Mexican food in the Harrisburg area and I can say this is one of the best places I've been to. Our total was about $26 which isn't bad for everthing we ordered. Only thing that was a little confusing was if we could get free refills on our drinks, we took a chance and refilled anyways and the owner didn't say anything. Overall I'd say definitely try this place out! The owner seemed very nice and was helpful with explaining the different dishes. I will definitely be back since I know where to get my carnitas fix!

My family took me to Chicko Chicko's for my birthday dinner, and we all loved it. The food is so fresh and flavorful, and the owners so hospitable that you feel like you are being entertained in a friend's home in Mexico. All the details were right: the guacamole was fabulous, the corn tortillas tasty and tender. Everything I tasted was just delicious. It's not a fancy place, but it was a perfect place to bring our children. We'll be back!

I went in this very evening and got some take out. The restaurant was empty, but the staff was friendly. I ordered the house enchiladas which came with a side of rice. Rice was OK, kind of bland. Added some of their green salsa to it and that was delicious. The enchiladas themselves were tasty, a little heavy on the onion for my taste, but still good. I also got free chips and salsa with my order. I got 2 meals worth of food (very generous portions) for $12. I will definitely be back.

This restaurant has recently changed owners. The manager and staff had a hard time answering questions about the menu. Food is low quality, overpriced, and unimpressive. I won't eat there again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
