I had dinner at Petra for the first time last week. We both ordered kabobs and they were really good. The prices and the portions were decent. The atmosphere is cozy with an exotic flair. The service was ok. I wasn't a fan of the free appetizer (pita bread, corn oil & spices). We had baklava for desert. The deserts were only $1.50 each, and at first that was shocking to me... but then they arrived - 2"x2" square, frozen solid. We heard it was a BYOB place, so we brought a bottle of wine with us. Our hostess informed us that they're not anymore... so I was game to try something new... But then we saw the wine prices. They offer local wines, wines I know very well, and the markup on a bottle was 200% in some cases. I ordered the house Zin (for $6.50/glass) and it tasted like box wine. That absolutely took away from the experience and soured my enthusiasm for drinking wine at Petra all together. Overall, I wouldn't protest if someone else wanted to go there, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Unique place. The petra platter is a great mix of food to try. The lentil dish is always good. I recently had the veggie kabobs,They had good flavor and only cost $11 but not their best dish.

I usually don't eat fish but i got some fish here. It has a berry sauce on it. I liked it.

Amazing hummus and za'atar! Loved that there were vegetarian options that were legit as well. Our server was very sweet and the meal was well paced, didn't feel either rushed or neglected. Also had the Fattoush and Showki which were lovely.

My favorite restaurant in Erie. I've been going here for years and whenever I'm back in town I always make it a point (if possible) to have dinner at Petra. The food is incredible - a few of my favorites include: appetizers = Artichokes & Cream, Cretian Shrimp, eggplant napoleon. For entrees- Chilean Seabass (so delicious), Crab cakes, and Kabob Hindi are my favorites. The owner of Petra is so hospitable and is sincerely such a nice person! Definitely check this place out...I promise you won't regret it!

Delicious!!! I had the mediteranian platter and my husband the beef kabobs. So good and FRESH! Could have made a meal from the pita and dipping spices! Our first visit, certainly not our last!

This is by far our most favorite restaurant in Erie, for four reasons: 1) the food is absolutely wonderful, from appetizers to dessert,, 2) both the wait staff and the owner are friendly, attentive and fully describe the specials including ingredients (for those with allergies or preferences), 3) they welcome out beautiful labradoodle to dine with us at the outside tables, and 4) you can take your time dining without being rushed to vacate the table . We have dined at this restaurant several times per year for nearly seven years, and have never been disappointed. Because we are bringing our dog, we always call ahead to make a reservation to insure that there will be outside seating. Petra Restaurant is truly an Erie gem, and a great dining experience.

Cozy atmosphere with a personal touch. Offers a wide range of Mediterranean and other dishes. Kal has run restaurants in several of the major U.S. cities, it's a real treat to have that kind of quality and experience in Erie, PA. The hummus is excellent, the Mediterranean platter is perfect for sampling several things. The beef and the lamb are both exceptional. And the fish selection is great!

Unless you prefer sub-par food served with a side of pretension, just go to Casa Blanca, right down the road. The baba ganoush at Petra is like microwaved play-dough, and the kabob is made primarily of mushy onions, without seasoning. I guess some of the patrons go to Petra for the buffalo chicken. I guess that sums it up. Petra sucks.

I recommend this restaurant to everyone! My family and I have been coming to Petra's for years and we absolutely love it! The service is wonderful and the food is amazing (mediterranean/eastern european cuisine). I usually get a platter (my favorite is the vegetarian) because it offers multiple dishes in one. It is also a great deal for around $12 (usually have left overs). The owner and his staff are always very friendly and helpful when you have questions about the menu. I especially enjoy that when it is nice in the summer guests can sit outside and enjoy an evening with family and friends.

Can't believe no one has reviewed this restaurant, and that it is being reviewed by a Jerseyite. I went here with some friends Saturday night before seeing "Love & Other Drugs" which was terrific, like Petra. My friends had the Kebabs, and I the Petra Platter. It contained all of the main dishes that one would eat in the Middle East. Those being kibbeh (minced lamb)falafel (ground chickpeas), fatayer (cheese pastry, like turkish borek), rice, salad, and the best babaganoush and hummus in the universe. The Manhattan cocktails were powerful. Go and enjoy.

The server was very kind, pleasant and accommodating. The kitchen put the food out very slowly. The food was horrible! I've eaten at many Mediterranean restaurants over the years. This was the worse. The food lacked flavor, was over cooked, dry, wilted lettuce on plate etc etc. I will not return.

Kal (the owner)- excellent cook!!!!!! The man can make anything. He catered my graduation party, everyone loved it. Petra recently got its liquor license, which makes it more fun. The inside decorating is different, def does not look 5 star inside... But the food is!

No idea how this place has so many stars. I ordered the lentil soup, Greek salad, and creme brulee all of which were not even mediocre. The service was slow but we were warned about the slow pace of things. The Turkish coffee is worth it.

This place is a real gem. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere. Service was good and food was excellent! All 3 of us in our party were very pleased with the meal. Definitely recommend and I'm sure I'll be back.

I enjoy going here when in Erie. The restaurant is small, so reservations might be a good idea on weekend or holiday evenings. I like the vegetarian choices, but other family members like the rest of the menu. We always enjoy the appetizers, as well as the main course. They have accommodations for groups from 2 to about 8, so can basically serve any typical size group. West of the peninsula on West Lake Road may be off the beaten path for some people, but well worth the trip. The food is delicious. Try it.

Not bad for Erie. Not bad at all! It's nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the warm summer air. It's also nice to get a glass of cab to enjoy while sitting outside. I ordered the shrimp and scallop kabob. It was good, you could tell the shrimp was fresh and just grilled. The scallops were good, but not as flavorful as the shrimp. I find that it's harder to season scallops and really have them taste good. You also get a hearty helping of yellow rice and veggies. I'd for sure head back and try some other items off the menu. The only thing I thought was weird was that the prices were kinda high for Erie. It was a nice place, but I wouldn't say fancy by any means. I'd say maybe lower them by a few more bucks and I think it would be fair.

Really cute and charming place, especially for Erie. Our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable about the drinks and food. The soups have always been amazing! I got the beef kabob both times and both were tender. The rice and vegetables were alright, nothing really special though, just kind of a filler on the plate. My only advice would be to please update the font on your sign and menus - it doesn't go with the the rest of this cute place!

Erie's version of Heaven. I'm gonna keep it 100 and admit I don't know anything about Mediterranean food, but I love wine that's given to me in a little milk glass. It made me feel like I was a Roman Centurion as I drank from its chalice, residing over my conquest with a big thing of fermented grape extract in one hand and delicious homemade pita in the other. Excellent service, the waitresses are unbelievably beautiful and - better yet - they speak English fluently and are able to explain the menu items very well. The meat platter is dank. If you don't get that and the pea soup on the side, you are missing out. If you don't take your lady here, you won't get laid. Pure and simple.

My wife and I stopped here at our way back from Niagara Falls and looking for a Mediterainian restaurant. Found a choice of two and Petra was our pick... and a great one it turned out to be! We were the first customers of the day, as they had just opened. Our waitress, Sally, was superb. Beginning with the Hummus and Zaatar the experince was overall a good one. My wife chose the Chicken Megdraa and I the Vegetarian Megdraa. Very fresh and very tasty. We would return, I would rate this Jordanian Restaruant as good as any of our best Middle East Restaurants in Cleveland. One thing that was disappointing was the ice tea from the fountain.... yuk. They should do better, especially in light of their excellent food.

We were in the area for D-Day Ohio 2015 in Conneaut Ohio, and since my wife and I both like Mediterranean food, I searched and found Petra on Yelp. Pulled up and when i saw the front of the building, and it's location, I wondered what we were getting ourselves into, but when in Erie .... So, we go inside, are promptly seated and our beverage order taken. Our waitress, Chelsea, was very good, she explained (not just read off a list) all of the specials, she then gave us a little time to decide. My wife chose the Chicken Mediterrane, and I went with the Gyro Platter. Both came with choice of soup, we both chose a chicken curry soup that turned out to be out of this world. I am not a big soup eater unless I am very cold (and this is middle of August) or the soup tastes outstanding. In this case, I selected this soup figuring I would just eat a couple of spoons, the soup was phenomenal, so much so, our next night we ate at what was supposed to be the best restaurant in Conneaut Ohio and we both wished we had come back to Petra's. Chelsea also brought out some pita bread with oil and a blend of spices for dipping, it was OK, nothing to write home about but then when the entrées came out, my wife loved her chicken, it was moist, spiced to perfection, and was more than she could eat. My Gyros Platter, flavor was good, the only downside was that the meat was not in the familiar thin strips cut from the cone while on the broiler, rather it was somewhat chunked, still tasted good, just not as easily folded inside the pita to eat by hand. Throughout the time we were there, Chelsea kept stopping by to make sure we had everything we needed and that everything was to our liking, all without being overbearing. While I would have liked to have tried their deserts, neither one of us had room left for desert. All in all, definitely a good find, not just for Erie Pa., but for anywhere. The food was very good, the service was excellent, so much so, we both decided if we are "out for a drive", and end up on the far east side of Cleveland, we will go the extra hour and head to Erie Pa, and Patra's.
