If you're from out of town, you'll have some doubts when you find this place. It's a small place, not great looking from the outside in an older neighborhood. Overcome those doubts and go in. You'll wish New York Lunch was in your neighborhood. The other review here gives all the necessary details. The food is good, the ambiance is old school, and the woman who runs the place is great to talk to. The place is clean and friendly. The Greek sauce on the burgers, dogs, and fries is wonderful. I'd recommend it.

My sister and I were in town for some family business but we made time for some fun, too. We had to eat at New York Lunch because this is where our parents ate when they were teenagers and young adults still living in Erie. I gotta be honest, the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. There were times we were fearful of our lives but once we finally found this gem, we became fans. The inside of the place is adorable; it's like a diner from way back when (before my time, at least). It's clean and the elderly Greek couple that run the place are precious. My sister and I drummed up a conversation with them while waiting on bar stools for our to-go order. We told them our parents used to frequent this place in the 50s and 60s and the Greek couple told us they would miss us when we leave. How cute is that? Especially since we've never met these people, nor did they know our parents. The Greek hamburgers and dogs are super tasty. What a kick that Greek sauce has to it. It's not a place you want to eat at too often - I'm guessing it's not the healthiest choice for fast food - but it is a nice treat once in a while. The ambiance and attitude of the owners is really fantastic. Just make sure you go to this place while it's daylight. ; )

Thanks a lot , Yelp, this place was terrible. It makes me wonder how people can have such a differing opinion of food. I was looking for a place in downtown erie I had never been to before, and I used Yelp to find this place. We walked up to the restaurant , and a handwritten sign informs us they only take cash, as we didn't have cash, the waitress smoking outside told us simply to walk a block and a half to a had station ATM. So I sit my family, order and head out to the ATM, come back to find the greasiest, most tasteless food, and to top it off, the waitress overcharged us for half of the menu items, never going there again. Big mistake, I will have trouble trusting Yelp again .

A very disappointing lunch. Perhaps I should have stuck to the hot dogs but I am from out of town and didn't know. I ordered the chicken gyro and it was a thin piece of breaded frozen chicken that was deep fried, thrown on a warmed pita (the best part) and then topped with some clumsily sliced raw onions, tomatoes, and iceberg lettuce. I also ordered a side of onion rings which were cheap mass-produced frozen junk. My coworker tried to order a turkey and swiss sandwhich. "We're out of turkey." Ok, how about ham and swiss? "No ham either." He settled on a cheeseburger which was very average.

I have been going to New York Lunch for over 50 years now for the finest hot dogs and burgers Erie has to offer. New York Lunch is owned by Steve and his wife Nina who still serve up the best Erie has to offer. Although mostly operated by their son Gus now it is the best place in Erie to come and feel at home and have a great burger and dog. And do not forget to sign the old counter which is hung on the wall. Great Food Great Prices Great Service in this Family run Business!!
