Delicious authentic Italian food. Good service. Great specials in addition to the regular menu. The hostess/owner was very friendly and genuinely nice!! Bread with olive oil was served prior to ordering. Buffalo mozzarella appetizer was excellent, very fresh. The pink vodka sauce on the lobster ravioli is outstanding, complimented with with fresh basil, tomatoes and a nice piece of lobster meat. The veal chop was spot on and of good quality, served with porcini mushrooms in a tasty sauce, spinach and mashed potatoes. Cannoli was fresh with a crisp shell and creamy ricotta chocolate chip filling. A bit pricier than the typical suburban Italian restaurant, but well worth it for the quality and authenticity of the food!

Staff and front were very accommodating. Don't be fooled by the fact that it is in a strip mall- i thought the ambiance was plenty inviting. The tables were also appropriately placed so that you could have an intimate meal with someone without hearing absolutely everyone around you. Had the lobster ravioli special, which I thought was excellent, and I've had my fair share if that dish before. I have yet to try the other Italian restaurants in this area, but I thought this was a good start. The only sticking point (for those that care) might be the price. 18 bucks and into the 20's for most pasta dishes on the main menu is probably a shade too high. Entrees obviously reach higher still. However, you can make up for it with the BYOB factor. Without an immense amount of competition in the area, the prices are set. Items ordered: regular and lobster ravioli in red and pink sauce respectively. Conclusion: BYOB keeps costs down on a slightly pricey menu (but one that is pretty much commiserate with surrounding establishments). Fresh pasta in an intimate atmosphere. Will return without hesitation for my italian fix.

From the beginning to the end.. Everything was excellent! This BYOB could survive in center city. I thought everything was fresh and very well prepared. They has a nice selection of specials to choose from. ambiance was great for a romantic night out. Service was excellent as well! Worth the price. We are coming back.

I hate to give a local small business a bad review but I was disappointed. The decor/ambiance was very nice--definitely prettier and more upscale than I would have guessed from the store front. I liked it a lot. The hostess (an owner?) was so friendly and welcoming when we arrived. Our waitress, however, was a little . . .surly. No small talk or friendly chatting. The bus person wasn't personable, either. So although the hostess was nice, the waitstaff didn't make us feel very comfortable. The food itself was most disappointing, though. I ordered the beet salad, a special, and it was literally just a huge heap of beets dumped in a bowl with chunks of goat cheese on top. I expected some kind of effort in the presentation and more ingredients/flavors-red onion slices, oranges, arugula . . . anything to add some interest and make it special. The serving size was also just too large for a starter. For the main course I had the gnocchi. They left a weird bitter aftertaste and the sauce was a really boring red sauce that was lacking flavor. The portion was huge, though, enough for 3 people. Everyone else at the table ordered seafood specials and liked them. For dessert I had the cannoli, which was my favorite part of the meal. The cream filling had a hint of lemon which I have never tasted in a cannoli before and it was delicious. The coffee was also very good. Overall I just think this dinner was way too overpriced for the quality, and it seems like the emphasis is on quantity.

This is probably some of the best Italian food to be had in the Dtown or New Hope area. Restaurant had great atmosphere and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer or more willing to make your dining experience the best. My only complaint is the noise level in the restaurant. I generally love a noisy restaurant with a lot going on, but it really was difficult to hold a conversation with the people you went to dinner with. If you just want to sit down and eat great food...this is the place. If you want to sip your wine and chat over your great food, it won't be here. But definitely a great place to dine.

I come from NY but also live in CA. I am an Italian American. This restaurant was impressive. Calamari fresh. Salads authentic. Veal chop fabulously prepared and with wonderful sauce that was professionally made. Spinach perfect potatoes perfect. Desert was so amazing I won't go into details. Simply the best Italian I have had in all of PA. Prices are very good and the atmosphere is wonderful. What is this place doing in a strip mall????? Go there. Enjoy Italy from PA. Mark Anthony

Simply the best dinning experience in Doylestown. Hidden in a strip mall, do not let the suburban setting fool you. My wife and I were treated to dinner tonight by friends. Service was good, food was great, strong menu with an abundance of specials. I will go back and because they are closed on Monday nights I will be able to do private client events very soon.

Do you know the feeling when you walk into a place for the first time and see someone you know, someone with good taste and good judgement? You just know you have picked a good spot, even if it is hidden in a strip center. The hostess was most cordial and friendly, I can't believe someone would have a problem with her, ever, as mentioned in other reviews. The decor, the atmosphere, the ambiance was really really nice. So far I was impressed. The salads were of such a nice size, we were able to split one, the one with mixed greens, balsamic, and nice large slices of gorgonzola. The split was plenty and tasty. For an entree I had the Wild Boar ragu over Pappardelle. This was excellent, one of the three best meat ragu's I've had in years. And, there was plenty, I was looking forward to taking some with me for the next day, but it was sooooo good I just kept eating and eating until my stomach did a complete fold over my belt. My favorite Sister ;-) had one of their fresh fish specials, salmon with lump crab meat. This was also very good and very fresh and a very nice size. The complimentary bruschetta up front was a nice add, the italian bread was OK, but butter packs in aluminum foil? Really? The owners should add 50 cents or a buck to the reasonable dinner prices and order some of the good olive oil for the table, paleeese!! I've already recommended to two people and look forward to a return visit soon.

I've lived in Doylestown for over 10 years and had never eaten here before. Living in Philadelphia my whole life, I was spoiled to have a plethora of great Italian dining options both out and at home. So I guess I always overlooked this place, which is tucked away in a strip mall next to a UPS store. After having lunch there several weeks ago, I was mad at myself that I never went before. VERY, very good food, friendly and attentive service, and that warm family-owned-and-operated feeling I have not experienced since leaving the neighborhood I lived in most of my life. I must say, it was a pleasant experience to be treated like a member of the family rather than be subjected to the typical service you encounter at most other Doylestown establishments (ultra-ironic tattooed hipsters with beards, or just downright bad attitudes).

Went there for the first time and the dinner was awesome. What a great little place to eat. Will definitely go back.

An "authentic" Italian restaurant in a SHOPPING CENTER - hell yeah bitches! We've been here twice, once for lunch and for dinner (I chose this for my birthday celebration - that's how much I love it). Small, but inviting and cozy. Staff - excellent, attentive, but with heavy Italian accent - just nod and smile if you can't figure out what they are saying. Owner is also the Chef. Food is SO DAMN GOOD. I mean, seriously. LOML had lobster bisque both times. He was astounded by the actual LOBSTER in the bisque. He loved it and said he could eat it everyday for the rest of his life and not get sick of it. I had the Mozzarella all Caprese salad - who knew mozzarella, tomatoes and roasted peppers could taste so fresh and explode with flavor at the same time? The second visit, I had a special of the night salad, which was beets with blue cheese - HELLO, this was FABULOUS. The first visit, I had Pollo all cacciatora which was just perfect. LOML had Scampi e Faggioli and gave it a hefty thumbs up. We both had dessert - he had Creme Brulee (of course) and loved it so much, he had it the second visit and proclaimed it the best he's ever had. And seriously, it's about all he ever orders for dessert, so he has many different Creme Brulee to compare it to. I had Italian Rum cake the first time (soooo good and moist) and the second time I had a special of the night dessert, which I can't remember what it was called, but it was fabulous (see the picture). The second visit, we split the gnocci al pomodoro - little pillows of potato goodness. I wished I'd ordered a whole dish to myself so I could take some home... LOML had the Scampi al Aglio for his main dish (he loved) and I had the beef medallions sauteed in a peppercorn sauce (divine). No "quirky" food here (I love quirky food) - just authentic, fantastically flavorful food, brought to you by friendly attentive staff. OH! And my cappuccino came with a snowman rendering in the foam! Hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant in Bucks/Montgomery county!!! And so far, even beats out the Philly places I've tried!! Make it a New Years Resolution to try it!!!

We went for dinner on Nov 30, chose it based on the reviews and were not disappointed. Yes it would be nicer if it were downtown but once you're inside you forget the location. Very nice decor, good service, the food was quite good with a very lengthy list of daily specials. We will definitely return. One nice touch is that current policy allows is BYOB, check to see that this is still the case before you go. I give 4 stars, why? Maybe I'm a harder grader, nothing was wrong or even off but for 5 stars I want every bite to knock my socks off.

Located in a small shopping center, this Italian restaurant stands our from the rest in Doylestown. The food is just absolutely amazing and the service is wonderful. My husband and I have never left disappointed and look forward to taking family and friends there. It's more upscale and pricey then some of my other favorite Italian spots in D-town so we usually celebrate special occasions there. It's a great place for date night too!

Yes it really is in a strip mall! But that's ok the food is really quite good here! My parents were there before and we went bak for my mom's birthday dinner. They got the clams to start, followed by the pork shoulder ragout and loved it. They shared some italian swordfish special, and the fish was cooked perfectly. I got the salmon w/chopped tomoatoes and an extra side of sauteed spinach - the spinach was wonderful! not overly done with olive oil. Salmon was cooked perfectly. The thing that lacked was the bread and bruscetta they brough out - really nothing special. also, they were short staffed for a saturday night and we had issues getting our beverages refilled. they did bring the food out hot though, whihc i loved. we got dessert - their special rum cake, which was good for the first few bites and their tiramisu which was very good, rich tho. dont know that i would go back because pasta contained a lot of creamy sauces, many meat options whihc i dont eat, not a loto f fish, and really the salmon was the only thing that appealed to me - however you likely will find something on here you like - wish the had some form of eggplant. it is small and does get loud. make a reservation.

Made a 5pm reservation for my family. We were 30 minutes late because of the snow. Besides one family and the staff, the restaurant was empty. Yet, the staff gave us attitude about being late, and told us we would have to leave promptly by 7pm. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially for an empty restaurant. The people who walked in after us got no such spiel for having to rush out before 7. Only us. When we asked why, we we were simply given the option to leave. My family was cordial, this staff could not have been ruder. Maybe you'll have better luck here if you're not an immigrant.

Il Melograno is a truly astonishing find. I have been to Italy many times. I lived in San Francisco for 25 years and ate my way through the creme de la creme available in that citadel of food. Were I to be pressed for an opinion, I would be pleased to place Il Melograno in the top five or seven Italian restaurants in my long experience. I had osso buco, perfecly prepared, complete with the bone and a marrow fork. My partner had beautifully prepared and plated chicken marsala. We stopped halfway through this perfection after we began speculating on what dessert would be like in this incredible place. Coffee and hot tea were followed shortly by a chocolate, Zabaione, and fruit confection (incredible in itself) and one of the highlights of the meal, the perfect Napoleon, airy, flaky pastry layered with creme, chocolate, and fruit. The service was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and professional, equal to the exquisite food. We will return to Il Melograno as often as our lives allow, which will never be often enough.

I respectfully disagree with the other ratings. This is about the most unauthentic Italian food I have ever experienced with the servers all having thick Italian accents. Butter patties, wrapped of course, and awful cheap bread rolls, and no olive oil in site. The Risotto dish tasted delicious and good thing I'm in cardiovascular shape, otherwise, I may have had a heart attack before I left. It was swimming in so much butter, but it of course tasted good. My wife had a seafood dish that was quite mediocre as well. Our server was nice, but had no vision. If you did not trip her or yell for her, she would never notice you needed anything but the check.

This place is LEGIT! My wife and I loved it. The service was outstanding and the food was wonderful. Doylestown has a gem in Melograno. Melograno is located in a shopping center, which made me wonder about my decision, but the food and service quickly made me forget about the location. The owners are Italian, and the fact that I had trouble understanding the specials b/c of the thick Italian accent of the owner, let me know that I was in the right spot. We started with the Calamari Fritti, and it was pretty good. Definitely not the best calamari I have had, but it was decent. They have a very comprehensive wine list for wine connoisseurs. We next got the Insalata Mista, which was a great starter salad. I saw the Insalata Mista con Gorgonzola at another table, and it looked really good if you like gorgonzola. For our entrees, my wife got the Lobster Ravioli, and I got the Lobster Spaghetti with spicy marinara sauce. Both of these meals were very, very good. It is lobster season, and Melograno does it right. We decided to try the desserts since no one else has Yelped Melograno, and Yelpers need the full report, from start to finish. The Napoleon was outstanding. The Cannoli was very good as well, but not as good as the Napoleon. The presentation of the desserts let you know this place is a winner. If you are in Doylestown, definitely try Ristorante II Melograno.

My husband and I love dining at Il Melograno whether to celebrate an occasion or just for a mid week feast! The food is always fresh, simply prepared and delicious. Angelo, the chef owner and Maria, his wife always make us feel welcome and special. The staff, Achiles and Rosa add their specialness to the friendliest atmosphere around town.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
