I have tried many Indian restaurants in the area, and I always come back to Cross Culture. Everything you order here is fantastic. And likewise at their other locations (I've been to Princeton, Lambertville as well). Always delicious. Must haves: malai kofta, chicken vindaloo. The lunch special just can not be beat. Amazing amount of food for the price.

Cross cultures lunch special hits the spot,!! Great for the wallet and your tummy! I live in town I would recommend this place to everyone! As always I will be back!

I seriously don't understand the low reviews that some people have given. Went tonight for the first time. We were seriously blown away. My wife is not, typically, a big fan of Indian food. But damn if she didn't demolish her meal. Mine was also fantastic. Everything we ordered. Different lamb dishes, breads, samosas and more. Even the chutneys they gave us for dipping. We will be back. It was empty at 8pm on a Wednesday, but just a week ago on a Friday evening we noticed that the place was very crowded - including the big outdoor porch - all night long (we were eating next door that night).

This place is probably more plusses than minuses but here goes... Came here with my close friend and was her first experience with Indian (seriously, who turns 50 without eating tiki? should be a law against that but I digress). We started with Samosas. They were good and a warm up for the main course. I've been on a Vindaloo craze lately but didn't think my partner would be able to handle the heat. I suggested she go with the traditional Chicken Tiki as a intro into Indian. Ordered some garlic naan as a side. The dishes arrived but the naan was delayed. How's that work? If the garlic was going to be an issue, I would have taken anything they had. We waited and eventually the bread showed up. The food was OK but certainly not grade a curry. I guess not bad in a pinch but certainly not something I would send someone to.

Why haven't I discovered this place sooner?! Just met a friend for lunch, and my tastebuds were delighted. I had the Cashmere Chicken from the Executive Lunch menu. Every bite of the meal was delicious. I will definitely return, eager to try other items on the menu.

A real classy BYOB Indian fare located in quaint Doylestown. Abit pricey for an Indian fare but DELICIOUS! Took my wife out on a date there. Spent $50. Well worth it since we received excellent service and we felt full even after sharing one dish each appetizer, main course and a dessert. We would come back!

Consistently good Indian food, really love the curries and tandoori. We've tried everything on the menu and enjoyed it all with the exception of desserts but that's more our American taste preferences. Comfortable porch seating in nice weather or cozy indoor tables, it's all very nice. One of the better restaurants in town. Order the papadam as an appetizer - it's crunchy with a hint of kick. Nice owners too and the staff has always been knowledgeable and attentive.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, enjoyable having a great byob in town! We sampled a few different entrees on the menu and shared and everything was delicious. I had a vegetarian entree and it was largely portioned so I took plenty home for lunch the next day. Will definitely be back!

Beautiful food and service! Great atmosphere, delicious. Literally feels like homemade food and the aromas are splendid. I highly recommend trying this place, we can't stop going back :)

I'm really surprised to read some of the lower-star reviews because I had an excellent experience last night at Cross Culture. To be honest up front, the only reason I didn't give them a five is because I don't think they're food is a ton better than other Indian restaurants I've visited, but the prices are a bit higher (not a ton -- a couple of bucks). I think it may be a location thing, but price is certainly a consideration for me. We started our meal (three ladies out to eat) with the Mixed Appetizers for Two. It was more than sufficient for the three of us and included two samosas, pakora, and papadam. The papadam was like a big tortilla that was dried out and crunchy. I'd never had that before and I thought it was kind of bland (though I suspect it's supposed to be that way and should be enjoyed with the flavorful chutney that came along with it). We also had an order of garlic naan that ended up getting saved for the meal. It didn't have as much garlic flavor as I was expecting, but it was good nonetheless. I had the Aloo Gobhi and I loved it. It came out nice and hot and the vegetables were well cooked -- not too mushy, but not too much crunch -- a perfect balance. The rice that accompanied the meal was also hot and properly cooked. My friends had Navaratan Korma and the Chicken Cashmere. I tried both but preferred the Navaratan Korma. I'm not usually a fan of coconut, but the light coconut flavor in this sauce was delicious. None of our meals were particularly spicy, so if that's something you're looking for, another dish might be in order. Our service was great and on a chilly night, despite the fact that we were fairly near to the door, the small vestibule keeps the restaurant toasty. I asked for onion naan to go at the end of our meal and it came out within 10 minutes, so I was pleased with that as well. I will definitely be back!

Very mixed feelings. I was pleasantly surprised and expected it to be a lot worse. We sampled chicken kashmiri, lamb korma, chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani and a shrimp dish. I agree with previous reviews about the 3 out 10 level of spice being pretty ambiguous. Some of the dishes were very spicy even though being rated that 3 out of 10. However, the flavor was pleasant. They were almost what they were supposed to be. There was something slightly off with some of the dishes though, the sweet lassi tasted like it had cilantro in it (maybe it was something else) and the rasmalai for some reason seemed to have lime zest in it. All that being said, I would probably come back. Service is pleasant enough. One of the dishes was a little too spicy for one person at the table and they did replace it promptly and apologize profusely. However, like I said I was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience. I would probably go back next time I'm in town.

Staff is so friendly. Byob! Get the chicken tikka masala. So delicious! The dish even converted my husband to love Indian food now!

I've always had a good meal from Cross Culture - my fav dish is chicken korma. They do dine in and take out. Wish they offered delivery. The primary reason I am giving them 3 stars is because there are a total of 3 Indian restaurants in Doylestown now (super excited about that by the way) and Cross Culture is definitely the most expensive.

Disappointment. I'm constantly craving Indian food, and when I walked by and first noticed this place a few weeks ago, I was thrilled. I took a look at the menu, and both the dishes and prices looked pretty good (although it was lunchtime and I was bummed there wasn't a buffet)! So about a week later, my husband and I walked over for dinner. The prices were suddenly awfully expensive (even for Doylestown, which likes to act like it can charge in the range of Philadelphia and New York eateries because...of it's location? Population of transplants from said cities? I don't know). We picked our items and considered asking for them to be prepared extra spicy because the menu kept mentioning words like "light" and "mild." But we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and start at the base. Then we'd know if we had to ask for things to be made spicier in the future. ...We're gonna have to ask for things to be made spicier in the future. The food was good (though my husband said that whatever I picked tasted like soap), but kind of boring and definitely overpriced. We did have enough for leftovers, though, and the service was friendly. Next time I'm seriously craving Indian food, I'll go to Cross Culture for lunch, ask them to pump up the spice, and leave my husband at home.

Great place to grab a great lunch to go or have dinner there. The food is prepared superbly . The exotic flavors awakens the taste buds. I have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants and this one is definitely at the top.

Went there on a friends recommendation and with some trepidation after reading year old reviews here. On a busy Saturday night, simply put good food, mediocre service. Had to ask for everything even after we (myself and 3 of my wife's friends) told them how ravenous we were. Reasonable total price as its BYOB, but everything including bread has a price with it. I had the Aloo Tikki as an app. Potato balls with peas flavored with coriander... very nice. Lamb Korma as an entree, very tender and flavorful. This after munching on naan and puri breads. Would've rated higher if not for the service, which is a big part of the dining experience for me.

Friends turned me onto this place after suggesting we meet up for dinner here. I had a hard time finding the place (you'd never knew I grew up only 15 minutes from Doylestown), but once I made it inside, I was a big fan. The service was sooo nice and very attentive. The atmosphere and decor are inviting and the menu is varied to please all. We started with vegetable samosas which were incredibly delicious, especially with the mint chutney and tamarind sauces. I ordered the vegetable biryani and while it was very tasty, it was spicier than I've ever had it and the sauce was cold - I'd only ever had it served warm before and I think I prefer it that way. The chicken kashmir was ridiculous delicious (the best entree on the table - sweet and nutty) and the palak paneer was also very tasty cheesy spinach. Unlike many of the other reviews, I didn't really find it to be too expensive, but I don't eat Indian very often so I don't have much to compare it to. I would definitely go back and recommend to fans of Indian.

  • K D.

I love Indian food and I have yet to not enjoy an Indian meal. Although the decor was nice and the staff was kind, the food was too mild. I overheard the waitress telling a customer that they cook their food at a level three spiciness whereas traditional Indian food is at a 7. My food had no spiciness at all. All I tasted was coconut milk. I think what this place is missing is authenticity and of course spice!!

I guess the family stayed home tonight other than maybe the chef. The food was very good, but terribly over priced. We would have been better off to head over to Lansdale, Princeton, or West Philly. The service was awful, young waitress decided to correct me on my pronunciation of my entree, thanks. Appetizer, Entree were delivered at same moment, followed a few minutes later by their naan. I told the waitress I would also need an order to go. Did not see the waitress of anyone else for about 25 minutes, no seriously, we were the only customers in the restaurant. 630PM on a Sunday (holiday weekend). We were so fed up at this point we were not about to wait for my daughter's to go order which we were never able to place as the waitress disappeared. There were no re-filled drinks, no check on our meal, nothing.. I suppose this is why CC was the only restaurant on State Street that was empty. The service will keep me from ever returning.

  • Cory M.

It's pricey, but worth it. Every curry variation they produce is SPOT ON Perfect!! If they had any competition for Indian fare in the area, they would be forced to compete on price, but since they don't,..... I'll gladly pay for the luxury of such amazing Indian cuisine so close to home. The Tikka Masala is creamy, and intoxicating, and I've never had a better Lamb Vindaloo anywhere in the USA. Its a family establishment, and they are friendly, and appreciative of your business. My Highest recommendation.

  • Neen J.

BYOB and great Indian food. The chicken tikka is a fave and their palak paneer (spinach/vegetarian) is fantastic. Easy to get a seat, the outdoor seating allows you to sit and watch the Doylestown world go by and the service is always attentive and great.

  • Elizabeth Z.

Why all this hate for such a solid restaurant?! Cross Culture is my go-to for a fun BYOB with my Indian-loving or more adventurous friends, and it therefore is highly recommended by me. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous-- I always end up having to bring some home or push some off on my significant other. My suggestion is to begin with the Garlic Naan (leavened bread), and to try either the Tandoori Chicken (very mild), Chicken Curry (a little spicy) or Chicken Vindaloo (if you like it HOT). There is also a plethora of vegetarian options. If you go (as you should), sitting outside is a great way to enjoy a nice Doylestown night.

  • John G.

Been to a lot of Indian restaurants and Cross Culture definitely has some of the best Indian food I've had. They use great fresh ingredients, cook their food without a lot of cream like other places and it really is great service. I would recommend them highly to anyone looking for a great Indian meal. On top of that they are BYOB which is always a plus. Give them a try and you won't be sorry. Can't wait to go back.

Good food. Nices ambiance. Great town. Cross Culture is a great little gem in the heart of Doylestown that serves authentic Indian cuisine. Sometimes it's hard to get seating because it's a popular place to go, but it's worth checking out, especially if you're new to Indian food. Also a great BYOB

Great service, chic decor, yummy/fresh meal. A bit pricey, but worth the $. Nice place for Date Night.

Cross Culture had turned me on to Indian cuisine and I thank them for that. It's always a great experience there. I'd give them a five starts if it wasn't for their prices, however, the location is perfect and the ambiance is lovely. Since my first experience with Indian cuisine was very good, I've tried many other restaurant's and they all seem to be less expensive, however, I still prefer Cross Culture over them all. The quality of the food is great and the service is just as good! When I have a few extra bucks to spend on dinner, this is my place of choice!

  • Carolyn S.

Wow - really only 2 stars? I found Cross Culture phenomenal! Now granted, that is only based on the 2 dishes I've had there, but those 2 dishes were truly delicious, and seemed quite authentic based on the many many Indian joints in which I've dined throughout PA and NYC. I got the Baingan Bartha (an eggplant/tomato dish) and the Palak Kofta (vegetable balls and spinach). I found the food so good that I took my Indian-food-loving friends all the way down from Bethlehem, and they all agreed it was spectacular. OK... I'm not being entirely truthful. I did get one other dish once, the Mutar Paneer, and it was not good. The peas were way undercooked. So ok, I can see where people might think the food is inconsistent. But the other 2 mentioned dishes were good enough to keep me thinking about this restaurant every time I get a hankering for Indian food.

Just finished a sublime meal at Cross Culture in Doylestown. Sitting in a coffee shop trying to prolong the experience. The Navaratan Kofta is as good as its reputation - vegs fresh and crisp, perfect vehicles for the amazing cream sauce. But the Aloo Baingam was astonishing. Perfectly done eggplant and potato that had fully absorbed the deep, complex, richly-flavored sauce. Just a wonderful experience. Knowledgable service, very reasonable pricing (lunch).

We went to Cross culture in Pedler's Village (Lehaska, PA) a number of times and really enjoyed the experience. The owner's cousin was visiting from overseas and show us an amazing short film. The food was well prepared and the value was about right for the quality and generous portions. That all being said, we were quite disappointed with the new Doylestown location. We felt like what I think a number of other reviewers are saying as not being important and that our opinions and preferences didn't matter. Every time we pass the place now we think, wow, a great Indian restaurant in Doylestown we want to support, but when we know the feeling isn't mutual we keep walking. Update: Went back after my wife recommended that we try it again. Portions were a bit bigger, but still a bit dry. Recommendation for anyone ordering lunch, ask for a wrap special even if they are missing from the menu. They are much cheaper and quite filling.

Things always improve after I leave - parties, religion, universities. Such was the case with my home town. Little Doylestown blossomed after I left in the late 80s, and the cutesy eateries are abundant. But to my knowledge, there wasn't a full-fledged Indian joint downtown until about 2 months ago, when Cross Culture opened. They already had a place in nearby Lahaska (tourist trap of Peddlers Village) and imagine my excitement to see the new place right in D-town, in a converted old house right on State Street, with outside dining on the porch! Heaven, right? OK, this is a review of limited scope, because I was only there for lunch. There's no buffet, so you are given the regular menu. There are lunch specials, which is good because otherwise you'd be paying entree prices that would make tonier joints in Philly blush. Even the lunch price of $14 only got you a choice of about 4 dishes, and no appetizer or dessert options. The waitress was kind enough to point out that dishes are prepared fairly bland, and asked if I preferred spicy. Yes my zaftig sweetie, I like food that inflicts. I only wish the chef had believed me, for there was no discernible ouch factor in the chicken tikka masala that was delivered. The chunks of chicken were superior, but a tad overcooked. Which is interesting, because the plain white basmati was undercooked. Put the two together..... Ah well, the price we pay for ambiance. I loved sitting on the porch and watching the milfs go by....

I was visiting from out of town -- thought Doylestown would surely have some great restaurants. Dinner at Cross Culture was the best option I could find. I had the Mulligatawny soup and the vegetable jajouk(?). Both were acceptable but not outstanding, a little bland.

As an Indian food virgin, I was very impressed with both the food and the service at Cross Culture. We went on a Saturday night, and were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and eager to please. We started out our meal with garlic naan (YUM!), and within 10 minutes, our entrees were on the table. I opted for the Chicken Curry, and I definitely made the right decision. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the sauce was delicious. My initial fears were that it would be too spicy, but it was perfectly seasoned. Our waitress made sure that we had plenty of rice, and checked up on many times to make sure we were doing alright. The food was reasonably priced, with good-sized portions. I definitely recommend this restaurant, and will be eating there again.

The Chicken Tikka Masala is perfect. The decor is very nice and the staff is always friendly and will help direct you through the menu if you are confused. Prices are a bit high, but I will gladly pay for the Tikka Masala every time I'm there

I've eaten at the restaurant in Doylestown several times for dinner, and also for lunch (which is a great bargain). I also get take out there pretty often. It's the best Indian restaurant in the area, and one of the better ones that I've ever been to. If you like Indian food I strongly recommend it.

the food was excellent and our server Julie gave us one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had in a long time. You are missing out if you enjoy Indian food and you don't try this restaurant out.

  • Krisztina F.

I really wanted to give them 3 stars, but I just can't. I come from a land of heavenly Indian food and 15 years of experience with spicy deliciousness. It's a love affair, really. I second the opinion of a previous review that mentioned the chef does not heed requests for spiciness. That said, the lamb and channa masala were definitely eminently edible. Lamb was fork-tender and the sauce was rich (although not so spicy). Perhaps they read the previous yelp reviews and remedied the overcooking issue? My satisfaction is most likely compounded by the unlikelihood in my mind of the existence of an Indian joint in Doylestown, PA. And even more so by the ambiance of a perfect summer's day on the porch. Waiter was kind and gave us aloo parantha instead of naan, but I am hoping the chef reads this recommendation and stops pan-frying them...the potato is too delicate in flavor (and lacking in spice) to hold up to it. Anyhow, if I should ever randomly find myself in Doylestown again, I would probably try something new instead of returning here. That's all supposition, of course. Bottom line: decent Indian food for a quaint town and nice view.

pretty expensive for indian fare. decor and seating overlooking downtown Doylestown is nice. we have been there 3 times and the food is inconsistent. Be sure to take a look at the menu and the prices prior to eating here. If you are craving Indian, may be worth the drive to Jersey for great Indian food.

Not sure why the reviews here are so harsh. The prices are maybe a little high, but I found the quality of the dishes to be worth it. Warm welcomes, and great (swift) service (something that seems to be lacking in the area). The interior of the restaurant was recently remodeled and it looks great.

love. for starters we got veggie samosas, garlic naan, and raita. (also, i could live on garlic naan but that may be beside the point.) i ordered the lamb rogan josh for my meal, and asked for medium spice. it was on the hot side, so i can't imagine what the "extra spicy" vindaloo was like that my friend ordered. i tried some chicken tikka masala, and was blown away. everything was flavorful and delicious. i'll definitely go back, but maybe on special occasions. it's pretty pricey for a BYO.

This was by far the best Indian food I've ever had! It's a great BYOB with a huge menu and very nice wait staff. I started with vegetable samosa for the app and got lamb nargisi for my meal (with garlic naan of course). I would highly recommend this place! I can't wait to go back again!

Solid choice for a town that SHOULD have nothing but excellent eateries. Surprisingly, though surrounded by New York and Philly, Doylestown is really lacking in quality. Been a resident here for 3 years now and am still really disappointed. The best places in town sell pizza and cheesesteaks. The sit down restaurants are very overrated. Slate Bleu, Ooka, Cross Culture are the top three choices in town though all quite pricey. M.O.M.'s and Bobby Simone's have good new menus and are a distant second. Everything else is a far distant third and the "Italian" places are all way below average. I am irish american and can make better italian than every place in town... it's a sad state of affairs. Time for citizens of Doylestown to stand up and demand better. Ranting aside, Cross Culture gets a thumbs up from me and am actually heading there tonight...

Beautiful food and service! Great atmosphere, delicious. Literally feels like homemade food and the aromas are splendid. I highly recommend trying this place, we can't stop going back :)

BYOB and great Indian food. The chicken tikka is a fave and their palak paneer (spinach/vegetarian) is fantastic. Easy to get a seat, the outdoor seating allows you to sit and watch the Doylestown world go by and the service is always attentive and great.

My Highest recommendation.

the food was excellent and our server Julie gave us one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have had in a long time. You are missing out if you enjoy Indian food and you don't try this restaurant out.
