I love both bar areas of 86 West, but will usually prefer to sit inside since there is no smoking. Kat the bartender is very attentive and made great suggestions. Her signature drinks are awesome! Ask for a pb&j shot! The sushi is made right in front of you, and they truly are artists. I usually just get a spicy tuna roll, but there are many creative rolls and tea sandwiches to choose from. My date had a burger, which was grass fed beef with bacon and he really enjoyed it. We'll be back!

A bad parody of itself with tasty food... Average to slightly above average; the food was tasty but about 15% higher in price than I would expect for a restaurant of its genre. There was unfortunately nothing good that stands out about 86 West. It's just a nice neighborhood place that has tasty food but an annoyingly *pretentious (the dictionary definition fits perfectly) vibe. As someone born and raised in Manhattan I am no stranger to going out to nice places and I feel that the aim of the place is quite literally to pretend to be something it's not. They fancy themselves a high end place to 'see and be seen' but fall way short by virtue of being 'snooty' because they feel they are "too cool for school", this is painfully obvious and kind of painful to watch. The staff appears to have little to no experience dining at truly fine places themselves (just a vibe) and acts like they are just 'tolerating' your presence. This is obviously their interpretation, maybe from watching movies or possibly even the 'higher-ups', of what a "fancy" restaurant is. The truly finest restaurants, at least in NYC such Daniel/LeCirque which I have had the good fortune to be able to eat at, are very friendly and make you feel great when you're there and smile when you walk out. They know that good food only goes so far and their job is to make you feel great. This goes for lower priced fine establishments as well. Of course you can't completely blame the 86 West staff as individuals, even though there is never an excuse to be rude. I'm sure they are interpreting a corporate culture, why else would it be so pervasive? What they are in desperate need of is a field trip to the kind of restaurant that they would so obviously like to be. My suggestion would be to go to Balthazar or Minitta Tavern in Manhattan(for example), those restaurants are fancy and have very fine food and for well over a decade are completely happy to see you...always. They cost about the same as 86 West yet are worth a 90 Min drive to get there from Bucks county,(Hint to 86 West: it's not just the delicious food). I think that they need to really look at themselves and maybe even rename themselves as well, using the address as part of the name is tired and used up, it was cool in 2001 but indicative of trying way to hard to be cool in 2015. It would also be a great way to tell people "we are ready to happily serve you delicious food", because they are not quite saying that now. Anyway as far as the food goes, I had a very tasty burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions as well as some other good stuff, it was delicious! With regards to the sushi; it was heavy on rice and light on fish, the sauce was heavy on sugar. This was also true regarding my fiancés Brussels sprout appetizer, they would have been perfect with just a teaspoon less sugar in the sauce. The kitchen at 86 W. is guilty of doing exactly what Kraft and Nestlé as well as local Chinese takeout places do with the 'too much sugar treatment'. Sugar is essentially used to fool the pallet into thinking something is more tasty than it really is, the strategy works less and less as people become more savvy about what they eat. Fortunately this is only on some of the dishes and could be easily remedied. My fiancés steak was over done, but that was her fault so I cannot comment on it, her fingerling potatoes with truffle oil were delicious and we ate them with great efficiency. In summation I would say that this is a definite possibility for dinner/drinks if you are in the area but don't expect an amazing culinary experience. If your aim is to have sushi pick one of the higher rated sushi places as it appears that the sushi is just an after thought even though it makes up like 25% of the menu. Don't take 86 W. too seriously and it probably won't disappoint you, bring good company and if the weather is nice eat outside and you will probably have a pleasant evening.

Tom, spoke with Dan and had a wonderful discussion. He explained that 86 was one of a couple places that were opened and you were swarmed. I completely understand. Dan's honesty and information was refreshing. I cannot wait to go back to 86. I mean, if you're out of something, it's assurance that it's good! See you guys!

Way way way over priced and filled with arrogance. The food was good but the value you get for the Soprano-like price is criminal.

I never had anything else here except the sushi. Sushi is sushi to me, and as long as it's fresh (which it should) and doesn't make me puke (which it shouldn't) then I have no qualms. I haven't tried any of the "american" type cuisines like the mac n' cheese that have been mentioned as good, but perhaps soon since that is my achilles heel. I give it three stars, because the wait staff is borderline. The recent two times I've been there the waiter's were so-so. Not superb, but not awful. They did their job. The first time though was definitely an experience. The waitress really couldn't give a f*** and she even mentioned at some point that she was no longer on "the clock" and so couldn't get our check or anything else we needed. My friend's and I literally stared at her while she sat on this plush, sofa type of seat starring into space. Weird. If that was me, even if I was off the clock and that happened to be my last table I would still give a little. Not my fault you hate your job. Either way, I had fun taking away from your tip, because honestly it wasn't deserved. Other than that, I would still come here for the sushi and still recommend this place.

Had diner last night at the Knight House. The Brussels sprouts and sushi were terrific. I had the Chilean sea bass which was cooked perfectly. My wife had the scallops which melted in your mouth. The service was great and our server was very knowledgable. We highly recommend this restaurant.

I have to agree with Zoey, I'm very surprised at the negative comments about this place. My family lives in Doylestown and when I'm back (pretty often since I'm only in Philly) this is one of our favorite places to go. The thing I like best about 86 West is that its pretty versatile. My mom and I are pretty adventurous while my brother and Dad are very much so not. We can all come here and get something we are VERY happy with. I would say dont leave with out trying one of the flat breads, or the brussel sprouts. For my part I love sushi, I think it's as good here as it is anywhere I've been in Philly. The Vegas Roll, Lobster Blast and 86 West Roll are favorites of mine. The more basic rolls are good too. I always leave satisfied. My dad LOVES the burgers and the lobster mac and cheese and he pretty picky. The seafood bisque is also a big favorite and done perfectly, rich and creamy. My brother also loves the burger or other sandwiches here, as well as some of the smaller plates. As I said the great thing about this place is that you can come with a family who likes all different things, or have a great girls night with Sushi and wine. The atmosphere is always nice, they have a pretty good wine selection, and the food is great! A definite go to for Doylestown.

I want to like this place and as many times as I've tried to forgive and forget over many years it just doesn't get any better. The service, primarily by the staff that great you, is atrocious. Rude and pretentious which is strange considering it's the service industry. I'm convinced it all starts at the top considering over the many times I've been there and seen the staff turnover the attitude still remains.

Wow what a roller coaster of a place! I've never experienced so much inconsistency in my life. The service was pretty terrible, our waiter had no clue about the drink menu or the food. So it was pretty disappointing. We even sat close to the owner and the service did not improve. I cannot believe how this place is run. They weren't even busy so I'd hate to see what its like when they are. I had to ask countless times for the waiter to fill my glass of water, I'm sorry but when I'm paying the price I'm paying for food at this place I do not expect to die of thirst! If the menu didn't interest us I would have left before we even ordered food. The drinks are half priced for happy hour which runs until 7 and you can sit outside gorgeous Doylestown so that was a plus and they do have some vegetarian options and I think 1 vegan option on the menu so props for that. Now onto food! My friend had oysters and they were not even shucked properly. She ate them anyway, but for 15 bucks for 6 oysters totally not worth it. I had the red beet carpacio salad! This salad was amazing! Shaved roasted beets and a goat cheese fritter! Yumm! My friend had the Vegas roll and she said it was amazing! Some of the best sushi she has ever had. For dinner I got the lobster mac and a side of the wok fried brussel spouts. The lobster mac was the WORST mac and cheese I've ever had. It tasted like paste (basically uncooked roux). I understand you don't want to overpower the flavor of the lobster, but there is no way there was 4 cheeses in that sauce, I actually questioned whether they forgot to add the cheese at all. I couldn't even eat this dish. The brussel sprouts on the other had were some of the best I've ever had! They were crispy and fresh and the ginger sauce was amazing! I fell in love. It's such a shame that they are here. I may have to just come back to get the brussel sprouts. My friend had the Bousin crusted prime aged filet mignon. She said it was good but nothing to brag about. It looked ok. We chose to end our meal with coffee and cupcakes. The cupcakes were huge, but definitely not worthy of my time, calories, or money. It's just weird that this place serves sushi, its like they are trying to dabble in everything when they should focus on a solid menu. I think I will try it out again just because I loved the brussel sprouts but hopefully next time they will impress!

My husband and I eat here pretty often and really enjoy it. The atmosphere is very fun with two bars inside and one outside. I am a vegetarian and there are plenty of options available, appetizers and entrees. They have also been very accommodating by creating vegetarian sushi rolls for me that were not on the menu. One thing (small thing) that is kind of annoying is their martini glasses are very, very small. They have a great menu of fun drinks, but it's not much bang for your buck at $12 each! Other than that, it's one of my favorite places to go in Doylestown. Definitely check it out!

Make sure the bartender repeats your order. She got my soup and salad wrong. Fortunately, the food is decent.

Going into this place, I never heard of it before, didn't know where it was, so ultimately had no expectations. I was told they had a vast menu ranging from burgers and fries to sushi. How? How does that work? Nonetheless, it was where my staff wanted to go, so we went. Made reservations and arrived on a Thursday night. I honestly didn't see too much of the place as our table was right next to the front door when we walked in. It sounds like horrible placement but it really wasn't. We had a screen separating us from the door, there was not a draft, so it turned out pretty good. I could see a bar off in the back and it looked like a fun atmosphere back there. Now I've only had sushi four times in my life, this being the fourth. My first two experiences were awful. The Brew Pub in Manayunk and then Ooka in Doylestown. Both times it just didn't go well, but dammit, I really wanted to like sushi! It looks so cool, it's fresh, why wouldn't it be good. Finally, I had a break through at Ota-Ya in Lambertville, NJ and had the best sushi yet. Then there was 86 West. Now I know I just exposed all my experience on sushi, so I don't have a lot to stand on, but this sushi was outstanding. The presentation was perfect, really, it was! Super fresh and tasty, spicy, sweet, large portions, I was overwhelmed. I had the Godzilla roll, which was Spicy Tuna, Spicy Crab, Tempura Shrimp, Mango, Avocado, Cucumber, Jalapeño, Wrapped in Soy Paper. I liked the heat and the sweet. I had previous experience with mango and sushi so I went with something familiar. I also got the Mango Shrimp Tempura, which was Spicy Crab & Cucumber Topped with Mango & Avocado. I thought these two rolls would compliment each other well and they did. They needed no wasabi or soy, just straight up in my mouth baby. It was awesome. Some of the people I was with got burgers and they looked awesome. The rolls looked like pillows of goodness, all shiny on top and soft inside. They were enjoyed by those consuming them. So yes, I would love to go back here. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, the service was a little dry. For a a party of six, I was expecting a little more pampering, but the visits were far and few in between. Could have been an off night, so we'll see next time. So for anyone who was wondering if burgers and sushi can coexist, visit 86 West and learn that they certainly can!

I was here twice in the past week and once about a year ago for an office luncheon. While I'm not a fan of the decor/ambience, I had an incredibly delicious crab cake sandwich and, on a trip just to the bar, the service was friendly and super prompt and the sangria really enjoyable.

I ate here with family a few months ago, I had not been here before. We ate outside, it was a summer night, I am glad we ate outside because it was so noisy indoors. I had the burger sliders, they were tasty but too greasy. The service was nice and the price was fair. I'm not rushing back but I would go again.

2nd & last time here. So disappointed. After getting our food, waitress admitted she forgot to enter provolone instead of Swiss on my wifes sandwich. Frustrating, but understandable. She comes a.minute later to tell us they don't even have provolone. my wife says no cheese then. 20 minutes later... it comes out with American cheese. No apology, no manager, and no indication that it will be faster than last time. So rather than have them try again, we took.the check and.left. Too bad. #done

Overpriced sushi rolls...14/roll? Pass. Butternut squash soup was awesome as was beet and goat cheese salad. Super!! slow service though. Took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine and it was moderately (not very) busy. Nice ambiance and good layout. I also took a star away b/c it took 15+ minutes for us to get seated with no other patrons in line or in front of us. Employees would walk by and not say anything like "Someone will be right with you." Just rude and felt slightly invisible. Just as we decided to leave, the hostess finally approached us and seated us.

I came here with my best friend during lunch time. I specifically came here for some sushi. And just as background, I'm from NY and practically grew up on seafood, especially sushi and sashimi. I wasn't surprised by the prices, so I just ordered what I felt like. We ended up getting the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, the 86 West Roll, and the Spanish roll. So before I get into the food, I'll just summarize my experience at the restaurant. The waitress we had was sort of strange and slightly rude when I asked a question about the drink menu. Other than that, the atmosphere was very nice to enjoy food outside on a beautiful day. Now the food.. I wouldn't say I'm someone who can critically evaluate food in a critic's sense, but I know a lot about Japanese cuisine. Just as a tip to people who are worried about freshness about the food, you can tell wasabi is fresh when it's spicy. The less spicy it is, the less fresh it is. And for my meal experience, the only thing that was "hot" was the siracha they used for both speciality rolls. And hot sauce is something that I've never seen done with sushi. I'm still deciding if I liked it or not. The portion size was typical for a specialty roll, but the size of the actual piece was pretty small compared to the standard size. I felt like they just opened boxed sushi from a random store to put on my plate for a size comparison. The flavors were pretty good and I felt satisfied, which is the only reason I felt this place deserved 3 stars, but the prices are not justified. Then we got 2 spicy tuna rolls and they were small in size but good. But what I thought was strange that they used the siracha hot sauce instead of spicy mayo. That I did not like. But overall the taste of the food was good, but the prices are not worth just the flavor of food. For Doylestown, I can understand the popularity, but I can get quality sushi and sashimi in Queens,NY for cheaper and the ingredients are guaranteed fresh. I would try coming back here for dinner just to see what the lounge aspect is like, but from what other Yelpers have recommended, it isn't worth it either.

I was in town visiting, and this is clearly a favorite of the locals for good reason. The vibe inside is Asian fusion, with a bar and tables outside. The menu is pretty extensive- and I really liked that. I tried the sushi sushi combo and it was great. I'd recommend the hummus, sangria, and tuna crunch roll. You have to check it out!

I went last night for the first time and must have just missed my friend Barry, we arrived about 830 and had a cocktail at the bar. I had a Manhattan and it was mixed well and in a big glass, I love a drink that is worthy of a big glass! The bar was really hopping with a nice crowd of people. We got a table a few minutes later in the back and got quick service. We stuck to sushi and started with our servers suggestion of the Tuna Crunch, it was a great start! We followed it with a big variety of additional plates of Spicy Tuna and Crazy Roll Lobster Club and a few others...all in all the experience was really positive and I will continue to go back and recommend it to friends.

The happy hour special was great, the food was B+, and the service was great, but the sushi was "backed up" and not served with rest of our order. In fact, the manager came over and apologized for the hold up.Then a bit later the manager (older redhead woman) had the nerve to ask us to leave since she had a reservation that was waiting. We were appalled. She must have realized how rude she was because she came and offered us a round of drinks at the bar but still wanted us to give up the table. We spent over $200 and were asked to move to the bar.

I would love to hear more from my friend Jason who rated it 1 star. We went last night (Saturday) at the recommendation of a good friend. We arrived a bit early (6:50) and the place was hopping. Its owned by the owners of the Knight House and is next door on State Street. Its large, well laid out and nicely appointed (despite the fact that they still had Christmas decorations up). Fairly loud and difficult to have conversations, but nice crowd (so it depends what you are looking for). The food was ok. Specialties are small plates and sushi. I tried both. The hamachi was ok, not great. When I saw it on the menu (6 pc for $12) it seemed a good value. They were cut uncharacteristically thin, so it was not good value. Cocktails also mixed weakly (my wife had a cosmo and after coming from the Freight House earlier said it seemed "all cranberry"). They had difficulty doing that to my grey goose :) Service good but not great. I probably would've rated it higher if the value were better.

Fun atmosphere and a great variety on the menu. Something for everyone - 2 of us got sushi and the other 2 got burgers. Although the burgers were messy, they were good. The sushi was also very good. Service was attentive even though they were packed. I will definitely be returning.

I had lunch at 86 West today. While the food was good, service was painfully slow. Thankfully I was not in a hurry. That said, I was pretty hungry and the time waiting for my appetizer was very long. The server was okay, but her presence at our table was not frequent enough. Would I give them another try? Yes. Everyone deserves a second chance.

The back bar is the best. The bar tenders mix the finest Martini's. Freshest sushi, the lobster blast is the best. Kobe burgers are to die for. I highly recommend 86 west in Doylestown you will not be disappointed .

2nd time around, still a charm. This is a unique spot in Doylestown, really has a city vibe to it and now that the weather is better the whole "indoor/ outdoor" style is in full effect. Highs; excellent drinks and friendly service, decent eats. Lows; only 2 seating, can't say I like that set up for a reservation on a Saturday night, especially for a place that fairly large. Small plates (aka Tapas) which are actually served on relatively large plates, which in turn do not fit on the somewhat small tables. **However, they did figure this out with the sushi and they are now serving on a much smaller wooden sushi platter, much better with 4 of us at the table**. DJ was a bit loud our dining table (we were seated directly next to him), much more so than the last time where they had live entertainment. Can't say this is a foodie destination, it's good but not a meal that will have you saying "that was one of the best dinners I've ever had". All-in-all it's worth a try, at least for some drinks, or if you are single and want to do a little cougar/ puma hunting on a Saturday night.

Strange layout (only went there once), the full bar is surrounded by tables for people to eat. And the bar is crowded, so conversations are done at an elevated speaking level. Then it segues into more seating, which at some point turns into a club. Live music came on around 9pm, and it was standard stuff coming from a guy with his keyboard. Menu selection was varied. Sushi selections were limited, and many of them included nontraditional items. Spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all. And the sushi was expensive. I've definitely had better in Philly, and I think Madam Butterfly's sushi is better. The people were the best part. Most of them were middle aged and single. This place definitely brings an air of hoitiness. Women were all wearing designer jeans, leather boots, and orangy-colored skin from all the years of tanning. Men dressed in fancy clothes and stood off to the sides, watching gaggles of women dance together. Not particularly the place I prefer, but definitely a place to go if your middle aged, got money, and are on the prowl.

The servers here were INCREDIBLY rude to my brother. Their credit card machine was down, and when my brother called to tell them to let them know his card was ok and it must be their machine we overheard them calling him a "deadbeat" I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER go to this restaurant again. SO RUDE!!!!!!

My husband and I like going here for drinks. We like the back outside bar. As for food the oysters are good, the tuna sushi is good, the burgers are really good. The only thing I've had that was ok was the fish and chips and the crab cakes, which were okay but not for the price and size.

Truly fabulous small plates, great service, fun bar (there is one in the front and a quieter one in the back). Highly recommend their sushi and sashimi. Great, funky spot for a drink or a meal. Great live music even on week nights, check it out.

Ugh this place is terribly over rated. I dined here right after it opened and more recently a couple of weeks ago thinking maybe it had improved over time. Nope, it was just as bad as I had remembered. I think 86 West has an identity crisis, I wasn't sure if it was trying to be a lounge or more of an upscale dinning type restaurant, or it was aiming for something in the middle. Either way it missed all of these marks. First off, if you are going to try to be some hip, trendy NYC lounge-type establishment you better be offering an experience that I can't get unless I'm within a 20 mile radius of Manhattan. Nothing memorable or unique on the front, just your typical Doylestown establishment. Initially we came here for the food the first time so walking into a restaurant at 5pm with the house lights off and insanely loud music playing is a bit of a turn off. ( Keep in mind that this place markets itself as a dining-centric type of restaurant, not a bar/lounge that serves good food). It just made for a kind of strange atmosphere. Secondly, the staff was horribly rude. The two hostess were so engrossed in their conversation it took them a good 5 mins before they even realized we were standing there. Furthermore, I watched a bar tender check herself out in the mirror and put on her makeup, at the bar! Totally unacceptable. Our waiter was nice however. The food: My first impression of this place after viewing their website (and prices) was that this would be better, higher end food. It wasn't, not even close. We ordered mostly small plates, most of which i can't even remember. The prosciutto flat bread was doughy and under seasoned, same thing with the fiesta rolls, totally bland, and the oysters were just plain bad. Ordered the Lobster mac and cheese, again bland and under seasoned. If I could sum the whole menu up in one word it would be unimaginative just lacked creativity and flavor. I mean there's nothing bad about hummus with feta and cucumbers but that's about as mundane as you can get. Kick it up a notch, give me something I'm going to remember! Furthermore, if your gonna keep it classic then it better be executed to perfection. They just failed to deliver on that front. 2 stars are for the blue cheese stuffed olive martinis but honestly don't waste your time.

Ah, 86 West. You're everything I expected you to be. I went to 86 West with a friend for lunch. We ordered a bunch of sushi and some drinks. The sushi was pretty good, but I've had better. For some odd reason ordering sushi here just doesn't seem right to me.. I also got the brussel sprouts for an appetizer, and those were pretty good. We ordered Blue Moon, which was served flat. After telling the server the Blue Moon didnt taste right, she told us that people had complained of that the previous night....hm. She asked us what we wanted instead of the Blue Moon, and then told us we could keep them and wouldn't be charged. LOL. Thanks. I won't go back to 86 West. There are too many other places in Doylestown to take up my time returning here.

  • Nelly D.

This actually might be the "best happy hour in Doylestown" like all of their signs say. The drinks were really good and the prices were about $5 during happy hour (which is from 5-7). The sushi was good, but the rolls were pricey. The signature rolls were about $17.50 and house rolls (like the California roll) were $9. The rest of the menu looked pretty good, but was on the smaller side (about 10 burger options and 10 entrée options of fish and steak) and prices are on the higher side. I would definitely go back, but not on a regular basis!

I had to write a review, I'm so surprised at the negative comments on this site! The only thing I would somewhat agree with is the service. It took a long time to get a waitress to our table, but once she did... she was great. The food was FANTASTIC. My husband and I shared the blackened sushi roll and the spanish roll - both absolutely to die for. Then after that, we shared the brussel sprouts and the flat bread. Both were just perfection. thanks for the great dinner! i'm in love with the food! half priced drinks (wine included) from 5-7 pm.... um, yeah!

This was my first time at 86 West and I was fairly impressed mainly because it met a lot of qualities I found important in a bar. While the bar was not terribly busy there were quite a few people there. It was wonderful having elbow room for once. Most of the people in the bar were of an age group a bit older than I, possibly the young 30's and late 20's. I concur with what someone posted earlier about an "air of hottiness" however many of these women are orange. They're probably more upscale men and women in this bar since I saw a lot of suits and sophisticated dresses. Overall, a bit of a snooty bar but still very nice and welcoming. Alcoholic prices were great for the area and type of bar that I saw it as. I stuck with Yeungling's most of the night just because they were such a good deal however I decided to jump up to the Maker's Mark on rocks. It was a little pricey for my wallet but once he poured the glass I understood, the amount of whiskey that bartender gave me was welll worth it.

Part and parcel of the Knight house fame, it is a nice compliment to the pre or post dinner meal. Albeit you can grab a sushi plate at 86 West and it is made right in front of you. Nice outdoor venue, spacious modern themed furnishings. Service was great too. The tenders took care of us withour delay. $$$ three symbols as it NYC priced but worth it.

Great place- first time there! Our server was awesome- made some great recommendations, such as the Tuna crunch roll and the Godzilla roll. Tried the lobster blast roll b/c of all the reviews, but was not that impressed. Oh... The wok-fried Brussels sprouts were unbelievable!!

i don't know why i think that the service will get any better. i had stayed away for a while, but was with a group of 3 friends that decided they had to eat here. the restaurant was not crowded. it was a sunday at about 6pm so it wasn't at a crazy time. the service was absolutely abysmal (read: nonexistent). if you want sushi, go anywhere else. if you want something on the regular menu, go to knight house or even sit in the courtyard between the restaurants. just avoid 86 west itself.

went to 86 west last week, the food was great but the highlight of the day was our waiter/bartender named chuckie. he was so much fun, and so outgoing and had us laughing the whole time. am going back again this week and hope chuckie is there. what a delight.

Let me be fair: I was a fan. I love the atmosphere and the food, and the prices are reasonable (not great, but reasonable.) My complaint today is purely a management / customer satisfaction issue. Today my husband and I went in with a voucher from Living Social which we'd purchased a while ago and that expires on June 12, 2012. We'd paid $15 for $30 toward dinner, so we called since it was 2pm and asked if we could use it at that time. We were told we could. We did not take the name of the person we spoke to; there was no reason to think there would be an issue. We again asked our waitress when we got there and when she checked, she said as long as it was before the expiration we could use it. When we went to pay the bill, we were credited only $20 and were told that since it was lunchtime (the deal fine print did not specify what hours would be counted as lunch v. dinner) we could only get $20 off. If we'd known that, we would not have gone there for lunch. The manager told us our only choices were to take the $20 or use the voucher another time. As the voucher is only good for another 6 days, and we were already disappointed with what had happened, we took the $20 because we really didn't think we'd want to come back in less than a week. It was a sad decision as we have been good patrons of 86 West. I ran my financial software to find we'd spent $474 dollars in the last year there, and now I don't think we'll be back. In today's economy, $10 is meaningful and a promise is a promise. We are sorely disappointed. Caveat emptor: be very wary of offers like this from 86 West / Knight House restaurant in the future.

Went here this past weekend for my birthday celebration on the reccomendation of a friend, and it was a great experience! The restaurant is clean, modern and classy with a warm ambiance. We were seated in the back by the second bar, right infront of the fire place- it was the perfect spot. The food and drinks were absoulutely phenomenal. To start I ordered the Japanese Tea Sandiwchs (spicy tuna & my bf got the salmon)- so SO delicious. Then I split the shashimi extravaganza with my boyfriend and it was out of this world. Everything was fresh and tasteful. My friends had other sushi rolls which they loved and the steak as well which was equally amazing. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because our male server was very pushy and you could tell he was trying to get us out of there (even though they weren't at full capacity) He just kept hounding us every 5 minutes as to what we wanted to eat and drink- didn't care for that very much. And also some of the female bar patrons were very loud and obnoxious at times, but that is to be expected at any bar.

They are taking steps to improve the place. They have fired some of the staff that weren't playing by the rules and have hired good musical talent. Certainly a step in the right direction, which is attracting a better crowd and for a night spot a great crowd is key.

probably my favorite place in Doylestown. Live music most nights and great martinis! And the Small Plates are AWESOME. My favorites: Goat Cheese Fritters and Lobster Mac'n'Cheese. AMAZING. And the sushi is really great too. The Lollipop roll is great. I always get the spicy tuna roll as a quick little meal. Anyway, just a great, funky place to go with your friends. Happy Hour every day from 5 to 7!!!

86 west is a newer addition to the downtown Doylestown restaurant/bar locations. I stopped in with my girlfriend last week to meet some friends for drinks. The atmosphere was fun and energetic. The interior was nicely decorated and felt classier than some bars in town. The beer was cheap which is always a plus. I recommend to anyone looking for a good place to meet friends, which doesn't require you to be rubbing elbows with everyone in the restaurant since this is quite a spacious bar.

Music too loud. Service disappointing; younger staff don't seem to care about their guest, more interested in their conversations. Decent size menu, but nothing that will knock your socks off. The only thing I do really like there is their goat cheese fritters, but the high price is not worth the food or service. Might be better as a bar than a full dinner. Looks wise the place is nice but the rest of it doesn't meet up.

I've been here a few times. Although it's a bit pricey the food is good and the atmosphere is nice. There is something for everyone on the menu. I don't know any other place where my wife can have a chicken sandwich and I can have sushi. I would recommend to a friend.

great idea....good happy hour, good drinks, tapas menu, casual atmosphere. But, surly staff who basically acts as if they wish you were you were somewhere else. They are at their best on a weekday lunch, but if you care about your evening and want to have good food in a pleasant atmosphere, go elsewhere.

I went here when it first opened. Its a gorgeous place. The drinks were good. The waiters was friendly and helpful. The food, on the other hand, was not great. We had different kinds of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. I was not impressed. It was just OK. Maybe the food has improved since I've been there.

I was asked to join my bff, her mom and her mom's friend for lunch in Doylestown and didn't ask where, was not told until we all met up in D'town. I was a bit disappointed, as there are other great choices, like Ooka, but I think the older women were not Sushi fans. Anyway, it was my friend's treat, so I went with the flow. First of all, the back bar area was just TOO dark. This was the middle of the afternoon and we could barely see the menu in the light. I actually like the atmosphere...and the gas fireplace gave off a nice warmth...I just think that for daytime...brighten it up a tad. Since I was not that thrilled with my sushi choice from the previous visit, I thought I'd play it relatively safe. The Roasted Beet Salad with Goat Cheese Fritter sounded great. It was okay. The goat cheese fritter was not hot, as you would expect a fried fritter to be, and the goat cheese inside was sort of gritty...not smooth and creamy, nothing special. The roasted beets/walnuts/field greens/dressing were okay, but again, I would have liked better lighting so I could tell what I was eating. So my safe choice for an entree was a hamburger...medium, with fries. Utterly unremarkable. For $12, I expect high quality beef, and this was ummm NOT. The burger had no flavor whatsoever, was cooked properly only on one half and was grissly. Though my guests and I didn't really discuss the food much (a hint that there wasn't much to discuss), I didn't hear any oohs and ahhs from anyone. We ate, we talked, we left.

Great atmosphere...lovely outdoor setting. But I ordered the pad thai and it tasted like noodles with instant Simply Asia sauce (NOTHING like pad thai). When I told the waitress she didn't offer to take it back and it wasn't discounted or taken off the bill when we finished our lunch. Slow service overall, even when the place wasn't crowded. Definitely wouldn't go back here again.

Loud, pounding-headache music that destroys conversation and digestion. You halfway expect fashion models to come stomping through the place. Service terrible--- waitperson just disappeared then gave some lame excuse about having a "big party" at the other end of the house. Like that's supposed to be our problem? Got the check wrong by over 20 bucks (in their favor). What appear to be managers just hanging around and BSing with buddies at the corner of the bar. Overall the place seems to be making a lame attempt at being urban industrial chic and cool. It fails. You can get better sushi at Wegman's, for 1/3 the price. The chef doesn't seem to know what "medium rare" means, or has it confused with "medium well." Presentation? Well, it was on a plate. This is one of those places where "nouvelle" (which is no longer really nouvelle, is it?) just comes across as "chintzy." If you've been everywhere else in Doylestown, maybe go to 86 West. Or maybe just skip it.

I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the atmosphere: The bars outside are a lot of fun. Came here with some friends on a Saturday night. We were told it would be a little over an hour for a wait. We weren't starving, so we headed to the outside tiki bar for some drinks. About a half-hour later, we were seated outside for dinner. I ordered the Black & Blue burger with fries. The burger came with no garnishes and did not have any bacon on it (the burger is supposed to come with bacon, creamy blue cheese and jalapeno marmalade). My friend ordered the same thing and her burger didn't have bacon on it either, so I assumed it was in the dressing. I felt the burger left something to be desired. I think lettuce or bacon would of been great, something with a crunch. My plate was literally a pile of fries, a bun with a patty slabbed in the middle. The blue cheese sauce was delicious, though. My friend ordered the oyster shooters and the ahi tuna sliders. He said they were pretty good.

Did some bar-hopping on a Saturday night and was not impressed by the bartenders (outside bar) with attitude who ignored me for a good 10 minutes while helping no one else. Yeah, thanks for the $7 beer. Better service next door.

We had a great time tonight at 86 West. Creative quality menu, and pretty garden setting. Our server, Jaclyn was lovely, personable, and sharp and great service. One of our favorite places!

I have only eaten here outside--the patio is so nice on a spring (or fall) day! I'm usually a fan of going here for lunch--not necessarily dinner. In my opinion, it can be a bit pricey so the lunch menu is perfect. I usually get a salad and a sushi roll; my favorite is the vegetarian roll, but the tuna roll is good as well (these are the ones that are around 10 dollars for one roll). I have gotten the Tuna Crunch roll before as well (a bit too much sauce in my opinion). It's a bummer that they stopped serving the beet and goat cheese salad, it was amazing!

The food is OK, but the staff here is the biggest turn off. I've been here twice in three years and from the hostess to the wait staff the vibe was the same: pretentious. I won't complain at length. I simply won't go back.

Awesome place. Sandra was a server yesterday and was just awesome! My mother who is very picky when it comes to servers said "now that's a great server" she brought our food out on time, gave us directions for a local bakery and even reccommended an awesome dessert! She was in a good mood and joked with us although she had many other tables. The food was great and the drinks were good and strong! We will be back! #teamsandra

86 West always has great food and drinks. I love their Jalapeño Margaritas. The Black & Blue burger is the best burger in town! The staff is friendly and they remember you after just one visit. Tasha always remembers my drink order and takes care of us! They have a great outdoor seating area and multiple bars, inside and outside. 86 West is great for anything from a quick weekday lunch, laid back Sunday Brunch, happy hour or even drinks on a Friday night. Highly recommended.

Calamari app was decent. Little cool, and seemed like it was only warmed under their salamander for two minutes, or under heat lamp for five. Entrees were good. Bartender wearing a sweatshirt with silver writing on back; "I'm not nice." Really? Her cracking gum was annoying. Along with, her eating of Reese's candy was enjoyable. Don't know who the male bartender was at the back bar. He was great. Don't know either ones name. They didn't introduce themselves. They should be thankful that the food brings people back. Because, it's not the people.

I'd been here once before with no complaints, however, my boyfriend and I came here last night for a drink during happy hour and I was very frustrated with the service. We asked if we could sit outside and the hostess immediately brought us alongside the restaurant and gave us a seat. Our server, Brandon, arrived and asked us our drink orders, and went immediately to fill our orders. Upon his return however, when he asked us what we would like for our meals, we told him that we were only planning on having drinks. His demeanor changed immediately and dramatically. He said that only people who were eating meals were allowed to sit outside and that we'd have to leave immediately to go inside and sit at the bar. His affect was obviously frustrated, and he spoke to us rudely, stomping away stating that he would have to move our check inside. He just left us there sitting, stunned, since this was through no fault of our own. We awkwardly picked up our drinks and walked ourselves inside to find seats at the bar. Once we moved inside things were fine, Brandon showed up again bringing in the water that we'd left at the table, but left without eye contact or saying anything. The bartenders, on the other hand, were attentive and conversational. Overall, I wasn't happy with how the server handled the situation, and that the hostesses didn't help avoid it by asking a simple question. I get everyone has bad days, but that was just poor service. They have a nice happy hour, I may go back, I'll just be sure not to piss anyone off next time accidentally.

My fiancé and I had the pleasure of having lunch here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the outdoor patio. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, the beer was ice-cold, and the place is spotless. I had the portobello cheesesteak, and it had so much flavor that I didn't even miss the meat. We will be sure to return whenever we are in the area. Doylestown is such a great community with a lot of options to choose from; definitely put this one on your list.

Funny how the prices went up and the portion sizes went down on their main plates. Flavor was good, sushi was great. Lighting still sucks but then again do you really want to see the other recently or soon to be divorced patrons across the bar trolling for their next big mistake? Not realizing it's most likely they themselves that are the cause of their own cycle of misery. Just kidding... I love divorced chicks... without them I'd never get any.

Went back again. The service was even worse. 2 hours to get out of there when it should have taken 1. Conversation centered around when we would see our server again. 10min? 13mim? Took 75 minutes to see our main course. Never again.

Is it weird to drive or walk by a place so many times and never venture in? We decided to give it a shot because I was craving oysters. We didn't have a reservation so when we spoke to the hostess, I was happy to hear we could be seated immediately although it was packed. Outdoor was fine because the weather was amazing for late September. So I ordered the oysters with a side of seaweed salad (which go together great by the way) and the oysters were good, but two of the six had shells fragments. Not a crime and a hazard of the dish, but for $20 (due to the seaweed salad addition), like anything in life, you expect crunch free oysters. My wife ordered the crab cake and I had the sea bass. Both beautiful to look at, but surprisingly underseasoned. The mashed potatoes needed a little something. The spinach and bok choy needed a little something. The crab cake had aioli (albeit too little) so that helped. My sea bass came beautifully cooked, but no sauce and no salt made an aesthetically pleasing dish taste beige. I also wondered if we didn't order well? I should have gone with the brussel sprouts! So. . .service from hostess to waitress was great. Food was very pretty. Atmosphere was quite nice. But Mother Nature helped. If someone salted my food, probably worth a star. If the shell fragments, more aioli for the crab cake, and a sauce for the sea bass could be addressed, probably another star.

Management 5 stars Service 1 star Food 4 stars Heard the food was great, and I was pleased but I don't think it was worth the wait. 5 minutes at the host stand without being greeted, 7 minutes at the table without a server taking my drink order and another 11 minutes before the drinks were served. Our server, Kim, was playing with her nails instead of taking our order and couldn't answer any of our questions about food or drinks. Food was amazing and the manager on staff was really nice and helpful so I'd love to come back but with a different server hopefully.

This is an awesome bar to come to for happy hours during the summer (great outdoor area) but gets CROWDED. Sushi is on point -- very tasty and their signature rolls are a decent size. Prices are pretty standard for the quality. Lobster Mac is delicious!

Me and a group of friends went to 86 last friday. While we were waiting for our table we went to the bar. My girlfriend and I ordered mind eraser shots from the bartender kat. She was incredibly rude and asked us if we were on a mission to get drunk. We ignored it at first but then we ordered another round of shots and she rolled her eyes at us and told us she hadn't made that kind of shot in 20 years. We weren't the only people put off by her attitude, as we found out other bar patrons had the same experience. We approached the manager and he gave us a free round in an attempt to make things right but it didn't change the fact that we were just blatantly disrespected by the bartender as paying customers. It didn't seem like there were any repercussions for her actions. It's safe to say we will never return. Horrible experience all around.

My boyfriend and I eat here quite frequently, maybe once a month if we're lucky enough to go out. We love to come for the sushi and the Shine Riesling that you can't really get anywhere else. Be careful with that wine, it's easy to suck down!! I'm really no sushi expert but I do enjoy 86 West's signature rolls. We usually order 4 of them to split and they come out pretty quick. We've talked to the manager, Donna(?), on several occasions and she seems to be personable and in good spirits despite how packed it usually is when we visit. As far as the wait staff goes, I agree with the other reviews. Most of the time the staff is inattentive, but there some good ones in the bunch. Unfortunately the last time we were in was to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and nothing really went right. I can't seem to remember the waitresses name, only that she has mega curly hair and bright red lipstick. We were seated quick enough but the waitress took a while to even ask us if we would like something to drink. Of course my boyfriend and I knew exactly what to order even before we arrived so when the wine came out, we were so ready to have a sip. I noticed that the waitress brought the bottle out but no ice bucket, leaving the wine sit at room temperature. Weird. She walked away almost immediately after setting the bottle down which was disappointing because we were ready to order. She came back eventually and we placed the order, prompting her to go grab some plates and chopsticks. My boyfriend received a chopstick sleeve with no chopsticks, then he received a new pair only to find that there was just one in there! Yikes-Hope these aren't used!! The order seemed to take longer than normal but that's fine since we just talked and enjoyed our wine while we waited. In this time, another waiter noticed we still did not have an ice bucket for our wine without us even mentioning it to anyone. He seemed quite aggravated that we did not have one and apologized when he brought one to us. Just as he walked away, our waitress noticed that he had brought one out to our table and seemed annoyed as if we told on her. We didn't, swear! After we sat for a few minutes more, our food arrived and we couldn't wait to dig in. The waitress made the comment "Are you sure you have enough food?!" which seemed fairly rude to me but I might have just been upset about the service so far. My boyfriend and I definitely enjoyed our sushi to the very last piece. Throughout our enjoyment though, my empty water glass sat on the end of the table waiting to be refilled so I had to steal my boyfriends water. The waitress came over to ask how things were but failed to refill my glass and I was too busy gorging myself to remember to ask. Everything wrapped up and I got my water eventually after speaking up. We stayed for around 2 hours and by the end of the night we had a bottle of wine, 4 rolls, and the creme brûlée. We left satisfied with most things except the waitress so we will still continue to dine here since we love the time together and the sushi close to home!

Went for lunch today and have been to this hipster wanna be in NYC place. The food is pricey and good but the drinks are better. This is a great DOYLESTOWN I wanna have a good time with other yuppies in a crowded venue type place. If you want a romantic quiet meal go elsewhere. If you want a fun night out or a nice casual lunch spot with good tapas and sandwich options give it a try. Food: flatbreads are great. Salads are good. Calamari is spot on and soft shell crab sandwich hit the spot. Braised short ribs will fall apart and are slow cooked and deep flavor. Sushi is good for DOYLESTOWN but the two other sushi joints are better but not as trendy. Good luck getting a seat.

I met up with family at 86 west tonight for dinner & some drinks. Everyone was very nice & pleasant. I saw some negative reviews against the staff & manager, but I experienced the complete opposite. The manager greeted us when we walked up & was very welcoming & even stopped by our table when she noticed our drinks were empty! The waitress had already taken care of replacing our drinks, but it was still very considerate. The food was delicious, we started with calamari & the buffalo flat bread, both were really good, but the flat bread was phenomenal! I'd definitely recommend it. For dinner we had different sushi rolls, my favorite was the spicy lovers roll, it was really good & wasn't too spicy at first, but ended up having a slow burn, so delicious. We were too stuffed for desert, but we'll be back for sure!

I don't ever write reviews but I felt I had to write something. I went to 86 West the other day for an early dinner with friends. The food was great, I had the brussel sprout app that was amazing. For my dinner I had 2 sushi rolls....very good and fresh. But I'm writing this review about the service. I think too many people write bad reviews when they have bad service. Our server was really fun and friendly. I think her name was Sandra (dark curly hair). I eat out a lot and service is always just ok. I had a few questions about the menu because I had never eaten at 86. Well she knew the menu inside and out!!! She made suggestions and was "On Point" with that!!! Everything she suggested was perfect. It was like she knew what we were looking for. I'm glad she talked to us about dessert! We had dessert too (never happens) it was perfect. I will definitely come back - GREAT Service - GREAT Food. I hope we get the same server when we come back!

First the Positive: Ambiance! Cool layout, nice bar areas, wall-hung fireplace, sports on TVs over bars. Negatives: Service - Don't get me wrong, they are nice people, but they just don't know what they are doing. It feels like you are over at another couple's house for dinner and they have their teenage kids dressed up like waiters and they are walking around not knowing what to do. You have to wave furiously to get their attention away from the Xbox for a minute to get another drink or to place your order. Their parents think it's cute, but you wish you had stayed home. The sushi was ok, but not professional. What I mean is the rolls are "loose" and what I like to call "trash can" rolls where the chef throws everything in them and on them to create flavor, but the chunks of ingredients are too big and don't meld together so it just doesn't look or taste professional. It's kind of like being at that same couple's house for dinner and the husband read a book on "how to make sushi," so he wants to try out some new recipes on you as he learns how to roll them properly. The place was easy to get a seat. They had many empty tables, but they all had tacky "Reserved" signs on each one. Reserved for who?? My suggestion: Go there for drinks, ambiance, and maybe an appetizer with your date, but save the big sushi dinner for another place in town.

It's a great place to go to a very good meal. The Sushi was superb and the cinnamon funnel cake was great. I would highly make reservations before you go and parking is little bit of an issue on a weekend but a real nice place to go for a night out with your significant other. It's not a place I would take young kids a to.

Amazing amazing amazing place! We sat outside in the little garden area on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Food was excellent and so was the service! They literally have every type of cultural food on the menu. Sushi, burgers, wings, breakfast, whatever. Sounds odd, but I like the concept. I'll definitely be back soon!

The space is nice, service was pretty good considering it was teenagers who don't really know what they are doing. But the reason this place gets one star is the food. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees, all terrible. Let's start with chicken lettuce wraps: For lettuce they used iceberg, I don't have anything against iceberg lettuce but you can't wrap anything in it. The chicken part was made with a supermarket teriyaki sauce. I also found a sticker from the vegetables in the chicken stir fry part of the dish. I had tilipia in thai cream sauce. It was more like bland coconut milk soup with unseasoned tilapia and soggy vegetables. My husband had rib eye which poor quality steak and neither steak or potatoes had salt. The potatos were cold. Place is probably okay for drinks, but don't eat there.

Came here for dinner a couple months ago with another couple and I was pleasantly surprised at how large the space was. I thought it was an interesting mix of food on the menu (sushi and american)... but the food we ordered was pretty decent/good ... and service was great. They also have a small outdoor bar area that we enjoyed after dinner.

please do not get me a gift card here. I will be forced to waste YOUR GOOD money on mediocre food just to spend it all. Food was just meh for the price. what you are paying for, though, is the ambiance, it's "fancy" and trendy for D-town.

Named appropriately as this restaurant is now eighty-sixed from my list of acceptable eateries in Doylestown. Despite a reservation we were greeted with the news they were a little "backed up" and would have to wait. Backed up is what we should have done, right back on to the street. When it became apparent that I was about to protest were were unceremoniously escorted to a high bar-side table. It was loud, poorly lit, in the heavy traffic lane near the lavatories. It was obvious something cobbled together to avoid any conflict. The napkins, silverware were thrown down on the table by what I assumed was a manager, as she was decades older than any other employee. Small plates arrived stacked loudly to the corner of the table in the same fashion. There they stayed serving no purpose until I moved to place them at the bar. The plates had more amiable personality than the "manager". One of the group was a vegetarian. The menu seemed to attempt to be accommodating to the dietary restrictions, but the availability and quality of the remaining options told a different story. Food was mediocre at best. Prepared from frozen processed sources at the more typical worst. Sushi options were disappointing as well. While visually appealing they was an "everything including the kitchen sink" quality to the selections. Finding a selection that showed off the distinct flavor of any of the ingredients was impossible. The most appalling item of the evening was the dirty rag displayed at the reception area that was then used ad infinitum to wipe the tables. After several minutes there it was obvious the clientele the venue catered to was that of a younger less discerning singles crowd. The lavatories were in short disgusting. Both men's and women's were in need of cleaning. In my trip to the men's room I feared the young patron bracing himself with one hand on the wall in the adjacent urinal would soil my shoes with at least one bodily fluid. He had obviously been over served. This was not my first time at 86, certainly my last. For the life of me I am not sure what prompted me to try again.

Great sushi, decent service, AWFUL manager (older lady with dark hair). She acts like she's doing you a favor by acknowledging your presence when you walk in the door. This is the place where douche nozzles go to mate and inebriate. I've gone 3 times, and I can say that unless I'm dragged there, I have zero interest in ever returning. Might be a different story if I was on the prowl and not married (it's only redeeming quality is it is a true meat market for singles or cheaters), but it is an absolute joke otherwise. Food is mediocre to lousy, the drinks are ridiculously over-priced and watered down, and the tap beer is flat and gross. On top of all that, the bartenders are the biggest tools I have ever encountered - ridiculous attitudes, condescending losers wanna-be tough guy knobs who will get their a## kicked as soon as they get the nuggets to ever leave sleepy Doylestown.

If you are looking for a place to go in town that accommodates larger groups, this is NOT the place to go. I had requested to reserve space for 15 people, and was told that in order to reserve, there was a $25.00 per person minimum. Since I did not want to be pinned down to that, I attended last night hoping for the best. From the moment I walked in, I had a bad taste in my mouth. The bartender at the back bar was rude, and I had to ask her after 10 minutes of standing there if she could get me a drink. Once she got it for me, she seemed irritated, like I was bothering her. All the tables at this place have a reserved plate on them, which creates an uninviting atmosphere and deters patrons from wanting to sit, stay, and eat. I noticed a table near the front of the restaurant that was able to seat 6 people, and was able to get the host to allow us to sit there. As more of my party arrived, we pulled up chairs and squeezed at the small table. The waitress appeared irritated and didn't seem to want to wait on us. We ordered food, and drinks, and the bill came to $282.00....and the waitress appeared to be untrusting because she added gratuity to the bill. The overall experience put a bad taste in all of our mouths, and we will not be returning. The staff appears to be full of themselves, like we are doing them a favor by choosing to wine and dine here. Pretentiousness doesn't get you far.

unfortunately I made a reservation for the Knight House- but not at all like the food i had gotten now they have merged with 86 West. Mussels were horrible quality as well as the deep fried sushi roll we got. Won't be back .
