Service is good but the sushi very meh. We had the beauty alaska, pink lady, and alligator rolls. They were decent but not amazing. Out of the 3, I would probably say the alligator was the best. I just wasn't a fan of the spicy sauce in the alaska (spicy salmon with salmon and avocado). The rolls were also quite pricey too (about $18 each).

Solid tasting sushi, but WAY OVER PRICED. A little off the beaten path, even so Shangri-La has a pretty good following. The quality of the food is very good. There are the usual suspects and some unique stand-out dishes and rolls. Service is very good as well. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. But expect to pay. Some of the specialty rolls are very pricey at $17-$21. I recently had lunch here. My guest and I had two specialty rolls, two standard hand rolls (4 items plus drinks), tea and soda. With a modest tip, the bill was $60. Just ridiculous. I've paid less for lunch at Morimoto's and had world-class sushi. So this place is okay, but very expensive. IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL, PLEASE RATE IT AND SEND ME A COMPLIMENT!

Like the mystical Shangri-La, this restaurant somehow can be hard to find. Despite geographically challenged folks, they still manage to stay popular, probably due to their pleasant decor, large parking lot and equally large dining room (including private rooms), sushi bar, and fully stocked bar, right? Or maybe it's their "fusion cuisine"? Maybe it's their Sunday brunch and continental buffet lunch? Or is it the lunch express, where you can get a soup and entree for $9? (The rest of their menu isn't exactly inexpensive.) Dined here twice with friends. Service (Leon, and Kevin the second time) was fine both times. Comically, when it came time to distribute chopsticks to the table, our "token white guy" didn't get chopsticks. I sampled the seafood bisque special at one point. Nice touch of flavor, but more plain expected. I followed it with a Thai red curry beef stew, Chinese style ($9). Decent stew (not spicy), decent meal. The second time I was here, we shared many sushi rolls, including a house special roll larger than the others and the best one there (the rest were so-so). I shared the lunch express and tried their Thai fire pot, which is more bark (smelled spicy as all get-out) than bite, watery and uber-mild, without any substance or taste. For an entree, we had the Malaysian Sambal Sauce with shrimp which had a little spice but was super sweet. Wouldn't return for the food, but their bar looks pretty sweet.

Very clean and the food is good. There was a bunch of fighting going on between the staff which was a turn- off but other than that it was good.

Walked in for an early dinner. Updated Asian décor. Large restaurant was empty at 6:30 on Saturday night. Okay, no big deal. We started with the tea smoked baby spare ribs, and that was the best thing. Might even go back there just to take some out. For the rest of the meal we had Happy Four (shrimp, beef, scallops, chicken) no biggy. Chicken and Cashews, ok. You can get this anywhere. Pad Thai Chicken. Again, anywhere the way this was made. Basil and Veg fried rice. The rice was fried? More like white rice with additions. The food was okay. I think we had too much chicken on the table for my taste. The negatives were the attitude of staff. Snobby? Off Standish? Condescending? Can't place my finger on it. May have just been our waiter? Had to ask for water, duck sauce, refills on tea..... By the time we left at 8:30 more tables were taken, but the place was not full. They have two large separate rooms with doors that can be closed for parties of 8to about 12 people??? That might be a plus to some.

I will say that Shagri-La is a very human restaurant... imperfect. It doesn't get everything right, but what it does get right... whooo, I crave it! The decor doesn't fit with the food: lighting to seating, to walls - it all feels quite sterile. Almost like an upscale Denny's. I also will say that some of the rolls have been average. So, wth? Why 4 stars? Ahhh, but there is an answer to that, friends: Incredible Roll (Shrimp tempura, avocado, inside topped with spicy crabmeat) and Lobster Cha Cha Roll (Lobster tempura, spicy crabmeat, mango, cucumber and masago). If Mozart had eaten these rolls he would've written an opera about them, and they will make your taste buds sing!

Try the Devon Roll! It is my favorite! Super fast service! The outside looks beat up but the inside is nice and clean. I had a private party room once and they were totally on point with everything! They even tried to teach my dad how to use chop sticks! This place is a diamond in the rough for sure! Decent prices (considering sushi is not cheap) Must stop by on your way from West Chester to King of Prussia!!!

Large Pan-Asian fusion restaurant featuring sushi and hot dishes from multiple lands, We went the route of Japan for lunch, and had some sushi and bento boxes. The Tuna Avocado rolls were good, and I was surprised and delighted that they had fresh Uni, one of my favorites. The bento boxes are a great deal ($12.00) and are generous in portion. I chose sashimi and had 3 pieces each of tuna and salmon, as well as a California Roll, salad, fruit, gyoza and a chicken skewer. The green tea was murky and wonderful, so nice on a blustery day. Service is efficient and completely non-invasive. Good place to stop if you have to get on the highway after wards, or you are shopping along Swedesford. And this month, who isn't?

Came here with a girlfriend to catch up, recently. She eats a lot of sushi (like, Jeremy Piven quantities), so I was pretty confident this would be a good choice. The atmosphere was kind of weird and random... Like country club / hotel bar meets sushi restaurant. The menu was crazy extensive... A ton of really cool sounding rolls, with different ingredients (maki wrapped in bamboo instead of your typical nori) that I'm not used to seeing. But I just couldn't get over how expensive everything was. And of course the server was like "Our customers LOVE the blah blah blah roll"... OK, and you obviously love it bc it's $21, lady. $21 for a hand roll just seems insane to me... But I ordered one anyway, cause I'm crazy like that. Sooo... the pink lady roll.. was wrapped in soy bean paper I think (pink)? It had some sort of spicy wasabi-ish sauce on it, and the center was tuna, salmon and something else. I wish I could remember, but the pieces of fish were so incredibly small that I really didn't taste whatever was in there. Not $19 worth of fish, by any means. The roll was decent, as was the oshinko roll I got, and the roll my friend got (totally forget the name). the service was good - bordering on stalker-ish, but it was early so I cut the lady a break. I probably should have ordered some sashimi so I could gauge the actual quality of the fish, but I didn't, so - this is all I have to offer. I would go back and try it again, hopefully on someone else's dime. Oh, and don't order the green tea - they make it with powder and all I could think about was how much I miss Ecto Cooler as I drank it. That's right. I just said Ecto Cooler.

I can't beleive this place has three stars. It sucks. You will be seated quickly here. Lunch time is surrounded by suits and thier skanky looking assistants. The food is less than mediocre, not better than your local chinese takeout, and expensive even with lunch specials. The sushi is disgusting and gave me heartburn for days. I got a spicy tuna roll, and it was not spicy at all, except for my burning esophagus. They have alcohol, big plus in Chesterbrook(that might even be worth two stars..) but the service is slow, too slow for an hour lunch break. The drinks are 8 or 10 bucks, way too expensive, and WARM and not very alcoholic for the price. Everything made me sad about this place. I was still hungry when I left and the bill was outrageous. I'll never come back. The sushi at chesterbrook genardi's is better and half the price.

My review focuses primarily on Lunches. Having had lunch here several times now, I can state that the earlier you get there the better your chances for a quicker meal. The lunch crowd close to noon is not really too heavy but around 12:15 to 12:30 the restaurant will load up and getting consistent follow through service will be a challenge. We had one occasion where we arrived well before noon and still had not gotten out meals at 12:55. Needless to say we had to have them wrap everything up to take to a meeting that we had right at 1:00 (luckily the office is close). The food is alright. As some others have posted the primary entrees on the menu haven't distinguished themselves to me in any manner. The sushi is very good with the specialty rolls showing a lot more quality in terms of taste and presentation. Price wise, I'd have to rate them as below average as their prices are highers for the main menu items than the average quality (subjective) perceived of their offerings. One thing that does draw me back is that they have a nice seafood udon that is moderate in price and quite nice in flavor. I'm sure that we'll be back here as there are a number of folks from our office that really like this place.

Went w my husband on a Tuesday night for the first time. It was a quiet night at the restaurant. The restaurant was very clean, however, the food was really poor! We ordered the grilled salmon and shrimp in malaysian sambal sauce. Honestly, the food was presented well, salmon was fresh the sauce on it was ok, however, the shrimps tasted awful. Not sure if these were fresh at all! We sent it back to kitchen, paid for the bill, and left. This will be our last time! Overall, Price wise, this place is very expensive! Food quality is very poor!

We tried out this place for lunch and found quite a few surprises.... The roti canai appetizer is just a frozen pancake that you can pick up in some asian groceries unlike the Penang restaurant version. The pad-thai noodles came out pretty bland. The beef teriyaki deluxe lunch box had some of the funkiest sauce on the chicken satay and gyoza that I'd ever tried before. On a plus note, the service was pretty good... For the price of this place, the quality really needs to step up.

I used to support this place because I live in the neighborhood. The food is okay not great. The sushi is not really special. The prices are fair but a little on the high side. I never felt like my business was really appreciated by the staff or more importantly management. When I support a restaurant on a regular basis, I would like to get to know the staff or owners....never once did they stop by a table after 15-20 visits. Mediocre at best......enjoy....too many other better choices. When I asked a question about one of the dishes to the owner, I was basically snubbed. Take care.

Been here a few times for lunch and occasionally for a sushi dinner. You can find all the usual suspects on the menu, all of which tasted pretty good. The sushi rolls are good and you will get decent quality sushi for the area and price. Service has always been friendly and efficient.

I think that Shangri-La is in accordance with a common type I have experienced in the restaurant world: A type that often exudes ignorance of marketing, design, and the general creation of a restaurant environment. The place is unnecessarily huge and suggests someone with high hopes but the wrong background picked the spot. Decor, music, arrangement, and food has no cohesion, and is generally thoughtless. But that's not important. What is important is the food. I'll keep it brief: Crab Wantons: great fried things. Where's the crab? Wok Crispy Honey Chicken: Appalling. It is not like it sounds (a stir fry, made in a wok). It is a pile of 5 large pieces of bland deep fried chicken. Menu says "peppers and onions," which actually turns out to be a microscopic garnish in a "honey sauce," which is really just straight honey poured on top of what is otherwise tasteless, poorly made southern fried chicken from a specious diner. Speaking of southern fried, the place did not bode well when the menu offered everything from a New York strip to sushi to risotto. They don't even give you chop sticks. Identity crisis with crap food.

Though I agree with those who've mentioned the boring plethora of pan-Asian restaurants, my family and I have found Shangri-La to be consistently tasty for dinner, especially their sushi. One of the joys of eating with parents is the expanded (aka, price-unlimited) menu, and one visit, my boyfriend and I braved the sushi boat for two. The variety and quality of the sashimi meant that I order sushi almost every time we come here. Can't really speak to the cocktails or the Thai dishes--for the prices, you might be better off at a less fancy place for things like pad thai or the stir-fries.

Ok, I've been here for both lunch and dinner on several occasions. This restaurant can't seem to make up its mind -- it has a little bit of everything. The sushi is ok; at lunch today, I had a spicy tuna roll and california roll, and it was edible...but not outstanding like other restaurants in the area (Azie, Nectar). The rolls weren't completely wrapped in rice, and were prone to fall apart. They were decent sized. Like other reviewers, I do think the prices are high for the quality. Other menu items range from Japanese to Chinese to Malaysian. Of the three, the malaysian is probably the best. But if you want authenticity, the wide variety of dishes makes it tough to excel at any given cuisine. One last item. I've never, ever been to the restaurant when it hasn't been *freezing* cold. Bring a sweater or something to keep you warm while you eat.

One of the friendliest restaurants we have been to, employees are just great. Very comfortable bar to grab appetizers and a cocktail. We had steamed dumplings which were made to perfection and a sushi sampler, which was delicious. Plus, they know how to make a shaken, not stirred martini, cold & dry.

I have eaten lunch here twice, and also had their sushi for takeout once. They were not very busy today: our party of 3 was seated immediately at Noon. The dining room remained mostly empty, and there was no one at the sushi bar. As such, service was extremely prompt and we were well-attended to -- water glasses stayed filled! Everyone's orders were correct and well-timed. I had some difficulty deciding on what to order, as I adore Asian food and the menu offers a vast variety, including many similar "special" sushi rolls. I started with the Thai Fire Pot Soup with shrimp, which was spicy (but not unbearable -- I thought it was perfect) and SO tasty. This was followed by the delicious Infinity Roll. The rice was just OK; however, the layers of flavors and textures and the quality of the ingredients were all on point. I also sampled the Rainforest Roll -- also good, but I preferred the former. For dessert I had the Cappuccino Truffle. I enjoyed the taste but the gelato was very soft, like it was melting. I also tried a couple bites of the Limoncello Raspberry Cake, which was heavenly. Overall we were all quite pleased with this dining experience, and would return. Side note: I should mention that the aforementioned takeout order was screwed up. One sushi roll was forgotten but paid for, and they were "unable" to deliver it, so someone had to go back to get it. Just be sure you check your bag before you leave.

If your within 10 minutes and you want sushi for lunch then this gets a 3 1/2. Service: Awesome. Gentleman was very attentive and knew when to stop at the table. Atmosphere: good for lunch. Ok for dinner. Food: I got the lunch special which was three rolls for $14. The sushi was solid but not amazing. The salmon was much better than the tuna. If this place has 15 minutes away I would rather go to Wegmans even though it was more expensive.

Asian fusion in the suburbs. Inside is nice and spacious. Service is good. Food is what it is. Sushi can be hit or miss, but overall its pretty good. Obviously better sushi can be found in the area, but a good place with groups since they have a wealth of options (Thai, japanese, etc.)

I enjoy how this place is decorated. It is also very spacious so you will not be bumping into people as you get to and from your table. I was here during lunch and to my surprise, it was not as crowded as I though it would be. Our waiter was super nice, joked with us and very helpful. Your water will also never be empty. The first time I had the sushi here was kind of disappointing. The rice was a bit dry so it was hard and almost falling off the roll. The second time I had the Adorable Roll $16 (spicy salmon, yellowtail, crunchy and avocado inside, topped with slices of tuna, white tuna, black and red tobiko). The rice this time was nicely textured and this roll is just delicious! I want another one! For my main entree I had the Malaysian Sambal Sauce with Baby Shrimp from the lunch menu. I don't think I've ever had Malaysian Sambal sauce and I don't really like it much. The shrimp was nicely cooked but the sauce was way too sweet for my taste. For dessert, we had the Limoncello Raspberry Cake $5.50 (layers of limoncello soaked sponge cake filled with lemon cream and raspberry marmalade, decorated with a raspberry miroir and white chocolate piping) This was really good! I would have enjoyed a bigger piece but it was still nice.

Have only been here for lunch, but food has been consistently good. I generally either go with one of their bento boxes or the crispy chicken so can't comment on their sushi. Portion sizes are pretty decent and often times I end up taking left overs back to the office for lunch the next day. It can be a little pricey for lunch, but given that I tend to make two lunches out of it, it ends up not being too bad. Service has always been pretty good, but wouldn't mind if it was a tad quicker. Nice spacious restaurant and well decorated. Not a bad place to try if you are in the area.

When I decided to add one more sushi restaurant to my list, I hadn't realized that I had eaten here before, about 5 years ago before I became a Yelper. So allow me to make up for lost time. The Thai Fire Pot soup... I realize it is supposed to be spicy, but the spice overpowers the flavor a bit. It actually made it tough to enjoy. I sampled several maki rolls. I enjoyed the spicy shrimp and tuna avocado rolls. The spicy salmon and spicy tuna however were indistinguishable from each other and lacking spice. The size of the rolls were slightly small compared to what I can get elsewhere. Price-wise, they had three rolls with soup for $14 for lunch. I can get that $2 cheaper nearby. It wasn't bad though. The service was quick and friendly. It has its good points. But I won't rave about it.

My 9 year old asked me to say this first... "They have very cold bathrooms". The ladies rooms was FREEZING. Luckily the rest of the dining room was warm. Service was unobtrusive and fine. Decor is very lovely. Food? Not so fresh. I had a hamachi sushi lunch special ($17) and the 4 pieces of nigiri 2 tasted off. 9 year old's shu mai (8 pieces) and california roll were fine - maybe even 4 star. Our friend's Drunken noodles were not terribly spicy but very tasty. If I ever return I will order cook dishes and not get sushi again here. Which is a shame because I love good sushi. Note: We returned a few weeeks later (for business lunch) and I had tofu pad Thai (lunch special $11 with a green salad) and it was fine. Good but not mindblowing. Full bar.

The restaurant is spacious and well decorated. The service depends on the server you get. I've gotten awful service (sat 20 min and had to ask for a serve to come bring us menus) to good, attentive service. The reason for the 2 stars is that the food just isn't that good anymore. It used to be much better, but now the food is just not tasty. The last time we ate there, we had the Pad Thai, which didn't have any peanuts or sprouts, and wasn't very good, and the drunken noodle, which tasted pretty much just like the not-so-tasty Pad Thai. I would recommend going somewhere else.

Stopped in for lunch and had a great grilled salmon meal. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere was good for a business meeting or just a casual get-away. This is a keeper and a favorite in my Garmin. They have a huge sushi menu so gotta try that next soon.

Shangri-La this is not, but it was a lunch oasis in the middle of giant turkey sandwich country for my colleague and me, both weary after a long client meeting and needing respite and refuel before our 2 hour drive home. After this meeting, there were two objectives: we needed Thai food. And, we needed said Thai food to be on our way back to Jersey City. Enter Shangri-La. As soon as we sat down, it became obvious that the restaurant focuses on Chinese and Japanese fare (always suspicious when it's the combo approach), with only a smattering of Thai items offered on the menu. So, we figured we would take cue from the happy diners around us and mix it up a bit. We ordered two sushi rolls (eel, tuna, and avocado roll and futomaki roll) and my colleague's favorite, drunken noodles with chicken. The rolls were quite good - both presentation-wise and in terms of taste. The futomaki was especially impressive, as the pickled kampyo (gourd) and shiitake tasted just like my mom's. [Clearly my benchmark for futomaki from now until forever.] The drunken noodles, however, were a little sad. The noodles were overcooked and soggy. The flavor wasn't there. And for a dish marked as "spicy", nary a capsaicin molecule was found. We had to flag down a waiter for what felt like 5 minutes to request a small tray of hot sauce. Sometime before the drunken noodles were finished, the aforementioned absent-minded waiter came and plopped the check down on the table. He did not offer coffee or dessert or any additional drinks. We found this somewhat surprising, as the restaurant was by no means full, and there were waiters standing blithely by. They had the perfect opportunity to offer us more to eat or drink but did not. Service and restaurant management 101, as we were already captive customers in their seats. 3 stars because of the decent sushi and the fact that this restaurant is in a Thai food desert.

We went for a birthday party and could not have asked for more. The décor was very nice and relaxing. The dining area was spacious. The servers were very attentive and friendly and didn't rush us. My sister knows sushi and she said it was ok, which means it was very good. She is hard to please. My only complaint was my peking duck was a bit overcooked, but being that this is not a duck house, I can understand that. They can't plan a meal that takes 2 hours to cook. I understand. And my wraps were a bit dry. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. The water was refilled quickly. Everything was just as would be expected of a high end restaurant like this. For the price, if something was wrong there would be a problem and I went in with high expectations and was not disappointed. If I could give them 4.5 stars for the duck I would but I strayed to the 5 stars because the food and service was really excellent. And I always wonder where people are eating when they give a place like this 1 star.

Okay sushi. I think it's one of the better sushi places outside of philly where the salmon is super fresh. I'm not sure how I really feel about the food I got the tuna avocado, rainbow, and spicy tuna rolls. I also got the calamari.
