Cashtown Inn is another great restaurant in the Gettysburg area with history. Confederate soldiers came down the road in front of Cashtown Inn and stopped in for food, headquarters, etc. There is an extensive history on their website. The food was really tasty and surprisingly "higher end/fancy" type of food. They had a wide selection of really cool cocktails/martinis too. I had the salad with cranberries and goat cheese, very good. I also had this dish with steak on top of something with blue cheese butter on top with red pepper sauce (I'll update with a better description later). It was AMAZING!! It was so unique and so incredibly tasty, I'd get it every single time I came here for sure!

We happened to be going thru Cashtown on our way to Gettysburg and remembered reading about the inn being a good place eat. We called ahead for lunch reservations and were able to get a table for 6. Even luckier, our table was in the tavern right in front of the fireplace. Had a wonderful lunch and the ambience of the tavern is great! The food was very good and we would definitely love to return and try dinner. I would recommend if you don't have time to eat here just taking a drive to see the place. It is off the main road into Gettysburg but you can drive by the inn and the road loops back around to the main highway.

Had a reservation here while visiting Gettysburg and wasnt sure what to expect. Read the menu outside while we waited for the and fell in love with a mushroom tart. I was so excited. So when i sat down and realized that the menu was different and that the one outside was old, I was heartbroken. When I realized that the only other vegetarian (what I was in the mood for) meal had three ingredients I didnt like, when I loved 100% of the missing mushroom tart, I was beginning to throw a tantrum. Nothing else at first glance sounded good. Thank god I stopped to read the descriptions for the veal, something I stopped ordering years ago. The server was great, offered very good and relaxed service. Started off with a 'roadhouse' cocktail, which was delicious. Muddled blueberries, basil and blueberry vodka in a perfectly not-too-sweet blend. I had .... two. Not a great idea before going to visit battlefields where bathrooms are scarce, but I digress. Once I eyed the description for the veal, my interest was completely peaked. Funny, I literally normally write off all veal meals on a menu. Anyways, it was a pan seared veal served in sheets of pasta and served with a tomato coulis and portabella mushrooms and topped off with melted mozzarella and shaved parmesan. EASILY the best dish on the table, and EVERYONE loved their dishes. It was incredible. With the first bite I was sold, I gave away a few bites to trade bites of other meals but shoveled through every bite as fast as I could. The veal was pounded perfectly thin and was tender to the bite, and the entire dish just tasted perfectly cozy. I am completely sold on the Cashtown Inn. They are reportedly a very haunted place - I am deathly afraid of ghosts, but for the food at this place, I will suck it up for one night. BTW, 5 or 5:30 is a perfect time to make a dinner reservation here in early July - it leaves about an hour and a half after dinner to go see the battlefield with sunlight still and then towards dusk, which is a nice time to see some of that stuff. We went to Little Round Top and Devil's Den. Perfect.

I visited Gettysburg for the first time in my life during Memorial Day weekend of 2013 - an overdue trip as the Civil War history buff that I am - and I can honestly say that the Cashtown Inn absolutely made our trip. Although my boyfriend and our two friends only had the honor/pleasure of staying at the Inn for the first two nights of our short-but-needed vacation, we experienced nothing but amazing service, hospitality, comfort, and absolutely OUTSTANDING food throughout our stay. To say that Jack is a great Innkeeper would be a gross understatement as he is so much more than that: the man not only reserved the AP Hill room for myself (despite the two-night minimum stay for their rooms) since the Heth room was the only room available at the time of booking, but also made every effort possible to cater to my gluten-free dietary restrictions, bringing me gluten-free bread on the table during dinner and making some utterly amazing gluten-free waffles in the morning. The dinner was unanimously the best that we have ever had in our lives (and this coming from a Miami native and current Boston resident who considers herself quite a foodie), and between the to-die-for french onion soup and the melt-in-your-mouth steak, we all felt quite lucky for stumbling upon this amazing gem. From the music that they play in the restaurant to the care that's taken in creating the drinks at the bar, to the thoughtfulness of the Innkeepers and the history and beauty of the Inn, I was actually sad to leave Gettysburg because that meant leaving this place. Jack deserves some sort of award for being a great guy and owner, and I completely understand why the ghosts have stuck around even after last call (and yes, unexplained events occurred both in the Heth and AP Hill rooms, and the ghostly-guest book was quickly updated with my experiences). Amazing history, amazing place, amazing food... I cannot wait to return.

We happened upon the Cashtown Inn during one of our trips to Gettysburg. Wow. What a find. The Cashtown Inn goes back to the times of the battle of Gettysburg and was the headquarters of General Hill. But enough about history. The food is absolutely wonderful. The decor is true to the history of the building and is extremely pleasant. The staff is attentive, friendly and efficient. We ate there two or three times and had an excellent meal every time. We've not stayed at the Inn but did get a tour from the owner. It's a beautiful place. If you're really lucky you may to get to meet Henry the resident ghost

Cashtown in was the best meal we had in the Gettysburg area! It was delicious and has a great story about the building. My family had the NY strip and pecan crushed chicken! Best steak we have had in awhile. It's pricey, but worth it! We also had dessert! The creme brulee and chocolate cake. Service was attentive and pleasant. Very personal!

Ate here at the recommendation of our Innkeepers at the Doubleday Inn. Wow! Cashtown Inn is top notch dining in a one-of-a-kind historic building. Service was outstanding, attentive without being intrusive. The menu had one mouth watering dish after another...it was hard to choose. My wife and I had the seasonal soup (a pumpkin bisque that tasted like Thanksgiving in a bowl), the house salad with awesome homemade ranch dressing, the Chilean sea bass (served with an amazing spicy chili sauce), and the scallops "saltimbocca". All were to die for, just perfect. Fresh, seasonal, and perfectly seasoned. Jack the proprietor made us an excellent wine recommendation (his list is ecclectic and had a nice range of prices) that went perfectly with everything. I would eat here again in a second. It is by far the best dining experience I've ever had in the Gettysburg area.

Returned here for second time while visiting Gettysburg. Great food....really. I travel a lot and mostly to major cities and the food here is as good as any. I had carpaccio and the filet. Both perfect. Nice wine list too. Good variety of mid priced high quality wines from CA. Also a nice selection of Italian reds. After dinner, we took our last glass of wine and joined a small group in the tavern. Met the owners (Jack and Maria) and the rest of the staff and enjoyed dessert at the bar. Very pleasant evening.

I am a fan of the show TAPS (don't laugh), and went to the Gettysburg area to visit the war sites and the places TAPS investigated. The inn was very easy to get to, right outside of Gettysburg, about 7 miles. The food was very good; I had the salmon BLT (minus the bacon), and it was only about 9 bucks. The dishes were well put together and all looked and tasted fantastic; a lot of care went into making the dishes. They had an extensive alcohol list with many wines and beer (with local mico-breweries).The owners are very welcoming, as are the staff. Great place to visit if you are in town.

I appreciate the big history this little inn has. I came with a group of friends for lunch during our day long turn of the battlefield and was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. Most of the offerings closest to Gettysburg are chain fast food joints or buffets with questionable offerings. This was the ideal place to rest and rejuvenate with a simple meal. Their soup and salad performed above expectation but their beef burger and chicken burger feel below the bar. Beef patty was cooked a bit too long and the chicken was covered in a suspicious looking saucy cheesy goo. Nonetheless, service was kind and I would go again, especially to enjoy the rocking chairs they have out on their front porch.

Very upscale restaurant, and the food is very good...we had hummus as an appetizer and I ordered a vegetable tart that was amazing. I think I had the same mixed drink as the other reviewer, the blueberry with basil...very strong and tasty. The inn is reportedly haunted, and you can look through an album of ghost photos in the front lobby. Service was good, but I thought the hosts were not as welcoming as they should have been. Expect a chilly reception if you do not have reservations.

Christiana S is my wife and her review put it perfectly. I had the rack of lamb with spinach and feta mashed potatoes. All outstanding. Also save room for dessert...my blueberry tart was fantastic...you could tell they were fresh the way they popped in your mouth. Most definitely coming back to linger next time we're in the area.

Good food, has a nice history but for fine dining prices - you don't expect to see a waiter in shorts. Suggest some sort of a dress code. We were all dressed celebrating an 80th birthday and the table behind us looked and acted like they just came in from bailing hay. Food and service was good. Just take it up a notch folks.

I took my fiance here for his birthday. The place is so beautiful and quaint, you look like you're having dinner at your rich grandmother's house :) There was even a cat that hung around there to greet you (we LOVE cats). The service is OUTSTANDING! The waitress even changed our silverware EACH COURSE. The food was excellent and the dish that stands out the most was their mussels in curry cream sauce!! It doesn't say that there is curry in them, at least I don't remember seeing that on the menu, but I tasted it and my eyes rolled back in my head. At first I couldn't figure out what that spice was and then my taste buds and brain matched up and figured out it was curry, which I confirmed with the waitress. That was BRILLIANT. I would have never thought those tastes would be good together and they were insanely good. You have to dip their fresh baked bread into the sauce too. I could have just ate 3 orders of that and would have been extremely happy. I'm a "foodie" and love to get surprised. The owner was so nice. She even sat down with us (at our urging) and talked for a while. Our conclusion is that everyone who works there REALLY cares about what they do and serving the customers. A lot of times it seems that is a lost commodity. We both would absolutely recommend this place and can't wait to go back.

Have been fortunate to be a regular here for quite a few years. It just gets better and better. New head chef Bill has added some really big flavors to the menu, my most recent favorite is the pistachio encrusted lamb, SO delicious. Everything is fresh and prepared just right. I'm a sucker for their awesome house salad full of prosciutto and goat cheese. On my recent lunch trip the mussels with curry sauce were fantastic, just the right combo of spicy and creamy. We've had Krystle, Brian and Lexi as our servers and can't say enough about each of them...thoroughly professional yet so warm and personal you feel like you are amongst friends. Each time we leave I am ready plotting our next visit.

Definitely love this place. The food is wonderful and the staff is great. We had dinner and we were back for breakfast. We found that there had been an overcharge the night before and our money was sitting there waiting for us. Whatever we needed was gotten for us with no compliant.

I've been holding off on this one. The building deserves 100 stars, the owner the lowest you can go. The web says reservations only on line but I booked the Lee room and the owner calls and states he took a phone reservation and I can't have it. The dining room has been modernized which is disappointing but don't worry, it's closed early in the week so we couldn't enjoy the tavern or the dining room. No worries, the owner promised a bucket of ice so I could enjoy the bottle of bourbon I brought on the front porch. Whoops, I didn't fulfill my promise. Then the breakfast is fine if you don't mind the boisterous owner and his dog slobbering over your plate. Literally! At least the dog didn't know any better. Forget something in the room???? No problem, we won't answer the phone or return your calls while you are in town. We will finally acknowledge we took your personal property but won't follow through on our promise of sending it back after a month. The owner could care less about the battlefield. He was rude and condescending - not to me but to his wife. A real Ike Turner type. Anyway, a great historic building that seriously needs a new owner that will return the dining area to period and will at least be a civil war buff. No idea why someone like this would end up with this historic Inn. Sad. I would say go for 1 night for the history but expect to be majorly disappointed. The owner is from (sh) Pittsburgh... Go freaking figure - the most classless city I've ever been to!

This place has a way of taking a space in your heart. Reading the history of this place you realize just how lucky you are to spend time in such a place! Not only rich in history, it is also rich in character. The General Lee suite is comfortable and has its own air conditioning control, a mini fridge, a TV with cable, a sleeper sofa (room can be separated by actual bedroom via folding doors), ample-sized bathroom, and two windows. Love the exposed beams in this room and the pocket lighting at side of beams. Very much enjoyed sitting in armchair in room's front window reading the journal of people's stays. Room was clean and fresh smelling. Hotel entry room is pleasant, fireplace going and books and magazines to read. On site and ample parking. Bar and restaurant totally closed on Sundays. Sadly no hauntings this last visit. Gettysburg seems much more active in summer and fall in that regard. Wish coffee would be laid out before 8am, if I could make suggestion. Breakfast at 8:30. Hosts are very accommodating and pleasant!! We're happy! Thank you!

Went to enjoy an dinner with friends and enjoy the ambiance of the evening. Brian was our waiter and was awkward from the start. The food was just ok. We lingered at our table since there were other vacant tables and no one waiting. He comes over approximately 2 hours later and says "I have to ask you to leave now" and walked away. We were still finishing our coffee! Very abrupt and rather rude. When I asked to speak to management, the owners were both confrontational and defensive saying that we had taken too long and they were very busy. Again...no one waiting. Even said to my friend "enjoy the free candy" that was clearly out to be taken. Overall the experience was not worth it. And the way our party of 5 were treated was in very bad taste. Awesome, awesome, AWESOME! Such a chill place to stay and have great conversation. Located 10 minutes (not more, not less) outside of downtown Gettysburg, we absolutely loved our stay. We stayed in the Pender Suite, which is located directly behind the restaurant and had it's own, private entrance. The room reminded me of a portion of my grandparents home from when I was a child. Very bucolic and rustic. With it being a B&B, we did not know if toiletries would be provided but the room came full with all the bathroom necessities. The restaurant is fine dining-style and fantastic. I had the scallops and she had the split-pea soup for an appetizer. Both were some of the best we ever had. I forget what my partner ordered but I had the vegetarian option, which was essentially a Thai-style, spicy, peanut sauce with rice noodles and a plethora of veggies. My god was it delicious. It literally was worth every penny. We don't make a habit of eating out at such expensive establishments but we heard the food was that good and it met every single one of our high expectations. If you can afford to treat yourselves, it's worth it. As a huge fan of craft beer, they offered a surprisingly, decent selection of brews. Ranging from Rogue to Dogfish and a few in-between. Whether you're a pale ale, IPA, sour, heffe, etc. fan -- you'll have an option. Well done, Cashtown. The room was awesome. We opted for the Pender Suite -- over a regular room because it wasn't much more money then a regular room and I embarrassingly wanted a TV because she falls asleep early and I knew I'd want to catch up on sports for the day, while falling asleep. As a four-for-four Philadelphia sports fan, as well as a overall baseball and football fan, the location of Gettysburg is pretty sweet for a sports fan. Your basic cable package brings you local coverage of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, DC, and Philadelphia. Coincidentally the Nationals and Braves game was delayed, due to rain, until 10:50 PM EST that night, so I had some extra, late night viewing when we came home Saturday night. I just realized I'm rambling now -- but hey, I refuse to backspace because I'm a rebel! Slight (and I emphasize the word SLIGHT, to the point where they can be ignored or may not even both you) criticisms were: - The location of the TV is in the living room / entrance area, while the bed is in another room. Thus, you can not watch TV from bed. - The bed was one of the most comfy beds we've ever slept in. However, you sunk into the bed so far, that you had to put considerable effort into turning side-to-side, where it did not happen naturally in your sleep. And, finally, breakfast. My favorite meal of the day. Freaking. Awesome. Saturday, we had banana stuffed french toast. Jesus, that was ridiculously good. Believe it or not, that was the first time I ever had it and I have to try making that sometime soon. Sunday, we had the fluffiest, scrambled eggs I've ever had in my life. So good. However, the best part of breakfast wasn't the delicious food but the company. We are usually very quiet, introverts who don't speak a word to each other until we've had 2+ cups of coffee in the morning. Listening to Jack's ghost stories, experiences in Baltimore during Steelers / Ravens games, how he came to own Casthown Inn, etc. were so fascinating and entertaining. He and Maria truly found their calling in owning a B&B. It was our first B&B experience and we will definitely be returning. What a pleasant and peaceful weekend away from DC.

I can honestly say that this is one of the most AMAZING B&B's you can stay at! I checked in on a Friday and the room was inviting, large and full of history! The dinner we had there Saturday was better then some 4 star restaurants in Chicago! The filet mignon was so tender I cut it with my fork, no steak knife needed! The morning breakfast and Jack's cheesy eggs where fluffy and moist and amazing! I would LOVE to get the recipe! Jack, Maria and the staff are like nothing I have ever experienced before or since! They both have treated me like family and Janet and the whole staff go above and beyond. Janet is a breath of fresh air and the ENTIRE staff really do care. I have stayed here several times and will stay no where else! Worth the money and Maria, Jack and the staff make you feel like family! They are truly the best! Stayed in Gettysburg for a couple nights and decided to travel a few miles out of town to have dinner at this cute B&B. we were not disappointed!!! We started with the beef carpaccio- it had big chunks of lump crab and a mustard cream sauce. Unlike any carpaccio I've had before, but really delicious! My boyfriend had the lamb chops. They were excellent. I had a salad and the scallop appetizer for dinner. The white bean parsnip purée that came with my scallops was incredible. Generally, everything was excellent, well cooked, portion sizes were ample and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. We would definitely recommend going!

Our second stay at this memorable, historic inn. The first time was 23 years ago and it was just as delightful last weekend as it was in 1992! We stayed in the General Lee suite on the 3rd floor and were extremely comfortable, having our own heat and air conditioning controls. Breakfast was delicious and hosts were voluntarily attentive to gluten-free request.

I didn't have the pleasure of staying here, though now that I've eaten here it will be the first place we call when we return to Gettysburg. The ambiance is great. I do wish more of the decor was actually antique, but it still had a great feel to it. The owners were there working the desk and the bar. Jack was a bit snippy with me on the phone when I called to say we'd be 5 minutes late for our reservation - a reservation he insisted we had never made (did so 6 months ago) and wasn't on the books. Well, we went anyway and all was well. They profusely apologized and gave us first-rate service the whole evening after that. Our drinks were all hand-crafted and utterly delicious. I became rather tipsy I must admit. The food was FANTASTIC. I'm a serious foodie who was accompanied by a well-known chef and consultant. We both raved about the meal and so did our spouses. We each ordered a different main dish representing all the different proteins (steak, chicken, pork chop, and crab). All were very well executed, which is rare. My steak was so perfectly prepared and the sauce, while I was worried it came with one, was perfectly complimentary and just enough was there to add flavor but not overwhelm. I've had worse steak at 5 star restaurants, and that is the truth. I've made better asparagus myself, but it really seemed to be more of a garnish anyway LOL. I loved our meal. It was such a lovely evening, and we WILL be back.

Emailed, called them 4 times, and made reservation online but can't get a call back due to issue with reservation. Why have an answering machine if you can't call back the person. Decided on Gettysburg Hotel instead since they were more than happy to answer a phone. I guess customer service isn't a priority there. Was really excited to stay there but I'll go with a place that will give me the time of day.

I recently spent three days at the Cashtown Inn with friends Amy and Neko , who regularly go to the Cashtown. I will say our experience was fantastic. The owners Jack and Maria were very accommodating . The Inn was amazing, and their staff that we met Brian and Janet were great. As for the food , I can't remember a better meal. We can't wait to go back.

Went back for dinner and was not disappointed. Had the chili braised duck breast with mashed yams and julienned zucchini. The dining room is small so reservations are recommended if not required. As for Art C saying south central PA doesn't have a lot of fine dinning haven't been in PA long but I've managed to fine some great places.

I always thought staying at a bed and breakfast would be creepy...like rolling in on perfect strangers and eating up the food in their home. But Jack and Marie definitely made us feel right at home. Even though the hotel was intimate, I never felt like an intruder and we had plenty of space to ourselves. This particular bed and breakfast is accessible 24/7 and does not require bathroom sharing, which was important to us. I hate to admit it, but we did book out of a morbid curiosity in the paranormal. Even though we did not have any "experiences" that weekend, just being around so much history and hearing the great stories more than compensated. We also had one dinner (and a few breakfasts) in their restaurant. The food is delicious, just a bit on the pricey side. But as far as nice, classy restaurants go it is one of the few and definitely one of the best in the area.

South central Pennsylvania is not known for fine dining. "Bad food and plenty of it" is the norm. People like to eat out of troughs, and all-you can-eat is quite popular. So is diabetes. The Cashtown Imm is a very welcome alternative. Cashtown is a tiny little town; I don't think the population even hits 1000, so the existence of an establishment like the Cashtown Inn is unexpected. The food is quite good and always interesting. They make use of local produce the area is famous for, so a dish might have heirloom apples, or local honey. They do wonderful lamb, and a portobello wellington which my wife quite enjoys. The wines list is varied and they have a lot of reasonably priced selections. The service is impeccable. The servers are knowledgeable, and are always on the spot with their recommendations. The building is quite old by US standards, and has a wonderful ambiance. As an added bonus, it is haunted (if you believe in that sort of thing) and was featured on one of the ghost hunter shows. If I was a ghost I could think of a lot worse places to haunt.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and were extremely disappointed. The wait staff was fine but the food was terrible. My hubby ordered oysters and they were very small and not worth the price. I ordered the roasted red pepper soup as an appetizer and it tasted like plastic. He ordered crab cakes for his main dish and they were all bread and no crab with an awful taste. I ordered the veggie stir fry which was served over cellophane noodles. The noodles were barely cooked and inedible. I would never go back here again! We never complain but when the waiter came and saw our dinners untouched he apologized profusely. Extremely disappointing place! NEVER AGAIN!

Visited the Cashtown with a group of family on our last night of vacation. It's just outside of town, so it was a little bit of a drive compared to the other places we went. The Inn was very interesting to look at and check out, though we didn't do too much exploring. The prices are somewhat high and the restaurant seemed relatively empty for a Friday night, which sucks for them but was great for us to have the place to ourselves practically. The service was adequate. The decor is Civil War-era to go with the Inn which is interesting and also at times a bit weird. The menu is somewhat small which is fine. Every item is just as described, no other sides or anything are given as options, so it's a little more upscale in that way. I ordered a house salad to begin with which came with feta cheese among other things on it. It was nice to have a salad that wasn't iceberg lettuce but it was served with the dressing tossed onto it instead of on the side, and it seemed as though there was barely any on it because none of us could really taste our dressing. It was still good and probably a result of us all eating far too much dressing, but I felt it was a bit weird. I ordered the pork dish which was a couple of pork tenderloins on top of butternut squash risotto in sauce. The sauce was tasty and covered the pork chops thoroughly though the pork was otherwise not seasoned at all and very underwhelming. It was cooked well enough and the sauce good, but it didn't really come together. The butternut squash risotto was very good. I paired the dish with a chardonnay which worked well together. Overall the meal was good but not anything fantastic really. I would try the Cashtown Inn again in the future if I'm ever in Gettysburg again. I will say that my husband's first course was soup instead of salad, and he got the seafood chowder. Sweet mother of jesus it was the best soup I have ever tasted. I wish I had just had three bowls of that instead of my entree.

I usually get concerned when a restaurant's menu has too much variety. A lack of focus often suggests medicority, i.e. typical New Jersey diner. That is not the case here. The main courses range from pasta to duck, beef to chicken, and much in between. I had the duck and was wowed by the tender morsels carefully sliced and placed on a plate with blood orange reduction. The gingered yams were some of the best I ever tasted. My girlfriend had the "vegetarian", which was also delicious. Only reason four stars & not five -- we felt a bit rushed even though the place was only half full.

This place is a gem. Great food, great service and a welcome relief from fast food and all-you-can-eat places that seem all too prevalent in this part of the world. Our waiter was personable and knowledgeable. He made some great recommendations for our food and drink orders. The food was very tasty, well prepared, used a number of local ingredients and was nicely presented. We got there early on a Saturday evening and were seated quickly. But the place got busy soon afterwards. I recommend making a reservation if you are planning to go there during prime time. We would return in a heartbeat if we're ever in the area again.
