Best Chinese food in the Valley! General Tso chicken is excellent--nice and crispy. Pan fried dumplings and dipping sauce should not be missed. Orange beef and pork fried rice are also favorites. Eating in or take out you can't go wrong here!

Our meal took forever! The place was dead and it all tasted burnt! We left most of it on the table and they still charged us full price! Won't be returning.

Our favorite Chinese takeout place in Bethlehem. Never had a bad meal, reasonably priced. The kung pao chicken brings a smile.

This place seems to be hit or miss taste wise. We've ordered takeout from here over the past 5 years and it's always a guess as to how it will be. So it gets 3 stars, when its good, it's good, when its not, not so much. Hard to find a really good stable Chinese place. If anyone reading this has an option, let me know.

Neat decor for strip mall Chinese, actually enjoyable to sit down in. Food was pretty good, nothing special. The service...I just have to ask, is anyone friendly around this place?

The hibachi platter is great. The food overall is wonderful and the staff is polite. Very clean and busy. I compliment them on every part of the meal. Getting the check takes some time but great value.

This used to be a great place to eat for lunch but it clearly has gone downhill since my last visit. There was a dead fly in my soda, flies in the dining room, and overall this place is very dirty. I do not recommend anymore.

Eastern Palace (1988) is probably the oldest Chinese restaurant in Bethlehem. I would go here rather than any of the Chinese buffets that are springing up around town. The food is plentiful and of fine quality and the service is polite. The only place with Dim Sum.

Eastern has been around for quite some time now and it's the only Chinese restaurant in the local area to serve a dim sum menu. It's certainly not the best dim sum (there are far superior ones in the city) but it's pretty good for what it is. Don't miss out on the spare ribs or steamed pork buns - both are delicious and will leave you craving more. Their regular menu is quite large and reflects the typical choices at a mainstream Chinese establishment. Food is usually very tasty, servings are generous in size and prices are low to moderate for most dishes. A slight annoyance is that I have a huge preference for fiery foods and always ask them to make my dishes super, extra hot, but alas, they always come out mildly hot. Hmm. Also, they don't advertise their boneless spare ribs but they do serve it. Just be sure to ask for it because it's SO much better than their bone-in spare ribs. Trust. I've noticed over my recent visits that their Chinese patrons are slowly declining and I'm not exactly sure why. This place used to buzz with them. That's typically not a good sign. But since Eastern is still the only restaurant with a dim sum menu, they'll still get my repeat business.

I've been here for years and I have to admit service & quality & even portion size have gone downhill over the years. But alas, when it's dim sum I crave, it's hard to resist temptation. I figure it beats a drive into Philly but I'm now regretting I didn't. Today was pretty much the final straw. I ordered some items from the dim sum menu for takeout. One particular dish is a favorite of my dad: beef stomach with turnip, so I got three of those, only to get home to find they've put all into one slightly larger container (only about the size of two) and charged me for all three anyway. I called them up to ask how my three pints of beef manage to all fit into a quart size container. (FYI, 1 quart = 2 pints.) All he could tell me was that I'm mistaken and that they did give me all three servings. I told him I'm not an idiot. I'm also a regular (now former regular) so I know what sizes my orders are supposed to be. He became quiet and didn't say anything for a solid 30 secs. So I kindly informed him that was my final order and I hope Eastern Palace enjoys the $4.95 they overcharged me in exchange for losing a customer for life.

Food is still excellent. Dim sum especially. Service has gone to shit though. They've stopped caring about their patrons. Oh and they don't know how to put high chairs together so parents beware. For now, still worth it for the Sunday dim sum. Best(only) in the area. Authentic. The only thing missing are the push carts. Actually, come to think of it. The way the place is run is similar to a place that has push cart service. Meaning they run around to bring you the food..not to serve you. Which really doesn't work for them because they're not a big dim sum house that gets the crazy in and out run around business. They're a mid to upscale sit down place with excellent food and priced appropriately for the proportions.

Well, let me comment on the "why Chinese families don't eat here anymore." The restaurant actually changed ownership from the original owner. Once that owner left, everything started going to pieces both in service and in food quality. The Dim Sum is still decent for our little town of Bethlehem. My mother was here recently and she noted that they were really heavy-handed on the salt and nothing was as fresh compared to the "old" Dong Fang Jiu Lo (yeah I know my romanization of their Chinese name might be off). I just wouldn't pay to eat here given the ratio of quality to price and I'm not even some kind of first generation Chinese immigrant who turns his nose up at anything not "real." Overall just a poor value for the amount of money you're paying unless you get the "Americanized" takeout. Given the pricing for their "authentic" dishes I'd just make the drive somewhere else (see review of Joy Tsin Lau in Philly). The old adage that when you eat at a Chinese restaurant and there aren't any Chinese people eating.... well, you get the picture. In hindsight, my previous review of this place should have been four stars. For the record, our family drives at least an hour from Bethlehem to get real Chinese food in a restaurant (refer to my review of Golden City in near Lansdale, PA) or even down to Philly. It is a real shame considering that Eastern Palace used to be THE place for Chinese families to entertain guests or celebrate holidays. Personal Rant: There is no good place to get Chinese food in the immediate Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area other than acceptable Americanized takeout. On the other hand I actually do like General Tso's Chicken and the frozen "Chinese donuts."

I live in Silicon Valley, CA where some of the best Chinese food can be found, so when I say the food here is really good, take it as a high compliment. Eastern Palace serves authentic Cantonese cuisine, something really hard to find in Bethlehem. My parents, the ones who live in the Lehigh Valley, are extremely picky about their Chinese food and they love it here. My dad is so particular that he describes the food he wants to the waiter, because he doesn't trust English names. Seriously, what exactly is General Tsao's chicken to a Chinese person? Eastern Palace has been able to deliver on all his descriptions to our complete satisfaction, so we're pretty impressed. We come here every year for our family Christmas dinner. One thing they could try to do is be more consistent with their service. It seems that sometimes they don't have enough staff working. But the food is authentic and good, which makes them a gem in Bethlehem, so they still get 5-stars. And it's a nice enough place to bring a date to. Everything I've had is really good, but these our family favorites: - Honey Walnut Shrimp (my Caucasian brother-in-law LOVES this and so do the rest of us) - Lobster with Ginger and Scallions (comes with head to symbolize completeness in Chinese culture) - Crispy Skinned Lemon Chicken (not sure if this is on the regular menu or the secret menu, but it's real tasty).

Not dwelling on the negative.....but out of 19 times of eating here, only had one bad service / take out and they corrected it by giving me the same item again the next time I came in complementary. Much of the local Asian population dines here (as when I went here on the Chinese New Year, you couldn't find a table, and there was a celebration going on restaurant wide). I've never had ingredients soggy, oversauced, or bland here......this is an excellent restaurant / take out and could be seen as the best Chinese food in the Lehigh Valley.....I wouldn't argue with that baring someone comparing this to a higher end habachi or two in the LV.

Dim sum! Yes, I was nicely surprised to see Eastern Palace's dim sum lunch menu. About 30 items, including all the standards: Har Gau, Shu Mai, Char Siu Bao, Pot Stickers, etc. Reasonably priced in the $3-5 range per dish. Quality / taste is comparable to what I've had in Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong. A welcome (and needed) addition to the area's fast food chains. Dim sum served until 3 PM.

Absolutely horrible. I used to come here often years ago. Gradually the food and service has declined and tonight, we gave it another chance. Now I know why we've stayed away. They need a total makeover. You can feel the springs coming through the booth seats, and the blinds we sat next to we're SO gross and dirty. So he brings the noodles and duck sauce. They were dark brown and so burnt. Nasty. My meal came out - steamed shrimp with garlic sauce on side. Garlic sauce was soy sauce - no flavor. I was done eating and my husband asked a waitress to cancel his beef with broccoli after having waited so long (keep in mind we were 1 of 4 tables). One minute later, waiter brings it out and we express our frustration and ask for it to be wrapped up. No apology, no adjustment to bill. STAY AWAY! -There was a table of five or six elderly people near us and they were complaining (as we were waiting on our food) that they were bringing all their entrees out one by one. I think they had only received 3 entrees by the time we left. Ridiculous.

When Yelp told me there was dim sum in my backyard, I was psyched. I grabbed me some adventurous foodie friends and we made the pilgrimage. And... yeah, it was just ok. I wouldn't go back. We got about 12 different varieties of dim sum and edible - yes. But none were insanely delicious. I wanted to love it. But no. Not so good. If it were in a major city, I'd probably give it two stars.

Just moved to this area after being in California around great Chinese food. I was getting so tired of the low-quality Chinese take-out here, but I'm so glad I found this place. Eastern Palace is the most authentic Chinese restaurant that I've visited here. Not the best Chinese food I've had, but it is best in the area. I do have to say the lobster with the scallions and ginger is to die for!

Dim Sum, Dim Sum Dim Sum....! I have never eaten a poorly prepared meal here. I think it is the best Chinese restaurant in the Lehigh Valley and I eat here regularly. The dim sum is hard to beat, and usually this menu is only found in larger city Chinese restaurants. Off their regular menu, I usually order chicken with garlic sauce or beef with snow peas. They will serve it in any sauce you desire-just ask. The food is always feshly prepared and I never have tasted anything that seemed to be going bad, stale or old. You can always tell which restaurants serve authentic food, as the ethic crowd will always be seen dining there.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
