My husband and I came here to eat lunch. We walked in and as soon as you walk in you see this rock fountain looking thing which smells bad and needs to be cleaned thoroughly. I looked around when I entered and it seemed well designed. There was no one at the host/hostess stand. A waiter that was about 15/20 feet greetes us and asked how many people and I said two. He called us over to the table placed our menus down and walked away before we even sat down. (Not a good sign of service to me.) So we sat down looked at the menu and a waiter came over and asked us what we would like to drink. I ordered ice water (which was tap water with ice btw.) A waitress (different person) came over... Took them about 10 minutes to come back and ask us what we wanted. I don't know why there was about 4 people in the front and 3 sets of couples and they couldn't tend to our needs? (I guess that's busy to them.) We ordered calamari for appetizer, chicken hibachi, salmon tempura, lobster dynamite and something else I can't remember. They brought over the salad and miso soup and it was delicious. Then brought over the chicken hibachi before the appetizer (really)? Doesn't the appetizer come first? Then the sushi came out. The food was all good. No complaints there. The looked over to the wall and it's so filthy. I don't think they know how to clean. Anyways... as we got closer to ending our lunch everyone seemed nicer and ready to kick us out. I gave this place a chance because people said it was good... The food was good.... THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! if your looking for bad service and good food... go here.

I was pleasantly surprised by Shogun and will definitely be back. Their 8.95 Hibachi special was a deal I couldn't pass up and they have all the sushi you could imagine. Monday through Friday all sushi is half off.

Three of us just went to Shogun and loved it! We has a variety of sushi rolls and sushi. Everything was excellent quality! The place is clean and the food was great! Plus it is a BYOB!

I've been here a few times and each time I always leave happy. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The signature rolls are amazing and very cheap! Sushi are half off everyday. I mean signature rolls ranging from $5-7... How can you beat that ?! My go to signature rolls are spicy shrimp dragon and street rolls, but others are good as well. I normally order about 3-4 rolls and I feel stuffed to the brim withOUT breaking the bank. I took off a star because the wait time is forever. If it's not the waiting time to be seated, it's the waiting time to get our food. But it's so well worth the wait... Also, their soda tend to always be flat. But otherwise, definitely would recommend this place!

One of two resturants within a mile of each other on Street Road that offer half price sushi. Shogun has it together when it comes to sushi. The rolls are great and half price makes them affordable too. I was actual able to get full on sushi alone without breaking my budget! The place also seems a bit more upscale than Sakura. In all, a great place for lunch and not a bad place for dinner either. Enjoy!

Before you read - please take this into consideration - 1. We got take out 2. I do not eat anything that was once in the ocean If I could give it 3.5 starts I would. I got the Hibachi Steak for take out for lunch one day, after we decided to order from work. I think it was like 11 and was a ton of food. There were 10 of us eating (my hibachi, one bento box of chicken and all the rest were sushi) and the total was about $100 - which I do not know what sushi costs, but from what I understand that was cheap. They lose the stars for the following - 1. my steak was a little fatty. I eat hibachi a lot and I rarely see any fat on it. 2. they screwed up one order - we ordered and chicken bento box and they sent shrimp. Overall though, it was pretty good, the take out presentation was great and I would definetly go again.

At lunch, Shogun is the place to be for cheap but quality sushi! Their rolls (6 pieces) and specialty rolls (8 pieces) are all very fresh. The specialty rolls are particularly scrumptuous, and still cheap (though a few bucks more than the more basic rolls.) I recommend the Volcano Roll & the Summer Roll. Atmosphere is clean, simple & classy. They have Hibachi that I'd definitely be interested in trying. Waiters at lunchtime were either bored or overanxious about our water glasses. We were asked if we wanted water by 4 waiters in the span of 5 minutes... Cute, but a bit much.

I absolutely love this place. Me and my boyfriend found this restaurant more than 2 yrs ago, and I was never disappointed with it. Good food, good prices, and good service.

Great sushi/hibachi, great prices. This place is Byob, so, I usually bring a bottle of wine or a six pack to sip on throughout my meal. It's hard to not go to shogun when I'm in the area simply for the great food and 50% off sushi. You will not be disappointed in shogun in regards to the good food and prices. The only reason I am giving a 4 star is because of their service. The service was just okay the many times I have been here-- nothing exceptional.

50% off sushi 24/7....... That alone should make you atleast want to try it. The sushi is great and l eat A LOT of sushi from different places. They have hibachi as well and its byob. I come here to meet up w friends for dinner before going out into Philly or sometimes just order to go a ton of sushi for $20 and l have 2 meals worth of sushi when l get home. The fact that you can get full off sushi and NOT be broke is amazing. Easily one of my favorite places to eat.

Shogun is pleasantly surprising. The shopping center is a little off-putting, but the interior is great. I'm sure you can get better quality sushi elsewhere, but the prices alone make Shogun worth it.

Pleasantly surprised. Wasn't sure what to expect, as the restaurant is located in a bit of a rundown strip mall. But when I walked in, the decor was gorgeous. Very modern and intimate. I was there for a late lunch, so the place was a bit on the empty side, but it picked up as we were eating. The menu is standard fare for most Japanese restaurants. Lots of sushi choices a large hibachi menu and a fe entrees. My wife ordered a few different sushi rolls and I had the sesame chicken. The sushi was plentiful and my wife loved it. I tasted a few pieces and they were quite delicious. My sesame chicken was not in any way what I expected...And that was awesome. It was chicken completely crusted in toasted sesame seeds. Simple, tasty and really a nice surprise. My food was also plated beautifully, coming with a small salad and dotted with cherries for a spot of color. For dessert my wife and I split the fried green tea ice cream and the fried cheesecake. Both were fantastic. The cheesecake was very sweet, and was surprisingly well preserved in the batter. The ice cream was very lightly sweetened, and still perfectly frozen in the hot tempura batter. I'll gladly be back. My wife loved it and so did I.

I have been getting sushi here for a few years, and I have never had any problems. The rolls are extremely good(especially for half price) , and you can BYOB. I recommend this place to everyone who is craving sushi in the area.

Best Hibachi chef. Sushi deals are great. I can order 3 rolls for under $9! If you're looking for over priced sushi, go to Philly. If you want a decent lunch/dinner, this is the place. Just bring a light jacket because it can be chilly. Noise level goes from quiet to loud depending on if you eat at busy times or inbetween.

Ever get such a debilitating craving for fresh raw fish that you can't think straight? Have no fear... you're not alone! I get that about twice a month on average. And I'm here to tell you that this place will give you the fix you need... without breaking the bank! Shogun has good, solid sushi. Always fresh. The white rice is flavorful - always enhancing the fish. They make sushi with brown rice if requested, but personally, I'm not a big fan; the few times I've had the brown rice, it was a bit dry. They have a wide array of rolls, from the 'standard' to the creative. The 'Fantastic Roll'... yes, it's pretty fantastic. Hibachi - The chef we had was very entertaining... juggled his 'spatula', did the onion-volcano and tossed food into our mouths. I had the scallops and filet, my brother got the shrimp and steak. Our chef did a good job of cooking everything to the proper wellness. The decor is simple yet well done. And always a good crowd - not crowded, but busy. I've always had decent service. The cherry on top of this place is the 50% sushi on certain weekday evenings. BINGO! My wallet can now reside in peace with my needy appetite. OH! And it's BYO!!

  • Lauren R.

Another great local sushi place that also offers hibachi. It's a BYOB place too, which is great. Huge variety of sushi on the menu. This place has a lot of great food to offer!

Decent place to get sushi. Don't go on a holiday when it's empty. I noticed the food tastes better when they're packed to the gills - see what I did there? Anyways, the assortment of sushi is very nice. The one slow night I was there I was quite displeased with a hibachi order that was prepared in the kitchen unlike on the grill up front which was closed since they were not busy. I will be back sometime soon.

I been to this restaurant a few times, cuz their sushi isn't that expensive and very good. Whenever I gotta chance, I will go there for my birthday.

  • Danan R.

The sushi here is decent but it is 50% off for most rolls. I had the salmon and tuna roll, salmon avocado, and eel avocado. This came to about $7. You can't beat the price. The fish was decently fresh and the rice not hard. The rolls are pretty small but three will be more than enough to feed one. The fantastic roll, crunchy roll, and pink day were also pretty good. Service was average but the food cane out very quickly. Definitely coming here again fr lunch very soon. It's not Bluefin or Ajihei but costs maybe 1/4 of the prices there.

Wow, how busy they were yesterday! We went for a late dinner. Great food, decent ambiance, poor service. Try the Viva Las Vegas roll. We were their very first customers when they first opened over 2 years ago. They used to have amazing service...but as with any good thing, news spread of this Bensalem gem, and they probably became overwhelmed. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar for faster service.

I should just move to East Asia, what with all of my reviews primarily focusing on Asian restaurants. Perhaps they'll fool people into thinking I'm some food connoisseur when it comes to Japanese, Vietnamese, and Indian dishes? Yes, it's only a matter of time until I become Philadelphia's go-to Asian food critic... But I digress, for the whole purpose of this review is to praise Shogun's fine cuisine and environment. True, I've only eaten here for lunch, but I'm never disappointed and so I would be more than happy to try out their dinner and/or hibachi. That said, since I'm not familiar with their dinner atmosphere, I'll strictly be talking about Shogun's lunches. Mmmmm...Shogun's lunch specials. So good, yet so cheap. You can get 2 rolls (6 pieces each) for around, if not under, $10. What? Under $10? If you're like me, you may be envisioning Giant's freshly-packaged sushi -- ya know, the kind that resembles and tastes like rubber? But Shogun's sushi is fresh and flavorful. I've dabbled in many of their selections and each kind has me second-guessing my favorite roll(s). I've been to Shogun at least 10 times and I still have yet to figure out which roll is my absolute favorite. I don't think you understand! I order 2 rolls per visit, and I've never tried a roll twice. You can do the math. That's when you know a restaurant is good; when you can't decide which entree is your favorite because they're all so damn delicious! Of course, I do have my top 5, but you get the point. The only issue I have with Shogun and the sole reason I've rated them a 4 and not a 5-star joint, is their inconsistent service. Some days the servers are genuinely friendly and attentive. Other days, they seem overwhelmed, although they may only have 2-3 tables to worry about (again, I'm referring to lunch hours). And then there are the occasional servers who have an apathetic disposition altogether. It just becomes confusing for the customers who want to easily predict what their experience is going to be like that day. Yes, the food is consistently good, but it's a shame their service can't be as reliable. REGARDLESS, Shogun is an ideal place for a group outing or if you're lucky enough, a date. My favorites: - Edamame (never a disappointment here) - Flyer Roll (VERY distinct look & taste) - Dynamite Roll - Rock & Roll - Volcano Roll

Good service. Never had sushi (raw or cooked) that wasn't fresh which is common at some point at most places. Good hibachi too! Rice is one of my favorites. Prices are very reasonable

I love Shogun!! Best sushi in the area hands down and everyone who works there is super nice. Ichiban Roll, Shanchi White Tuna, and Friday Beef are all amazing. I wish they had delivery :)

Like someone else previously mentioned, don't be discouraged by its location in a (dead) shopping center! This is by far the best sushi I've ever had, and I like this Japanese restaurant way better than sakura just down the street. The atmosphere here is inviting, the servers seem nicer, the prices are decent, and the sushi tastes superior. However, they are lacking a bit on authenticity compared to other Japanese restaurants. For example, I can get my favorite Japanese soda at sakura. But if you just want delicious sushi, go here.

    (4)
  • Arseny R.

Go across the street to Sakura. Interior design is not that good, but at least the food will be better. Last thing I got there were hibachi scallops, maybe they did weigh 9oz when fresh, but since then they got the well done treatment and shrank to size of bay scallops and consistency of over done pork loin. Chef did a good job plating, browned spots were facing down.

Easily 5 stars in my book! This place has great hibachi and great sushi. I dine in and order take out at least 2-3 times a month for the past year and can honestly say I have been a slightly disappointed twice with the take out. The 50% off menu is an awesome money saver and the sushi is tasty! Alyssa usually does take out and she is, without a doubt, the nicest person you will ever meet in your life. Pleasant wait staff, yummy food and great bang for your buck!

We enjoyed going to Shogun when it first opened a few years ago. It has since gone down hill as far as the quality of the food and the atmosphere. The hibachi has become quite popular among younger adults, presumably because it is byob and they offer very low priced dinner options now. The last time we went there were so many intoxicated people at our table and surrounding tables, having sake poured in their mouths by the chefs, yelling and making the whole scene more like a bar than a dinner experience. I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy this, but Benihana, A1 and Arirang are more our style. We won't be going back. The one thing I will miss, and may stop in for take-out to get (when I'm no longer pregnant!), is the romantic roll... delicious and not available at the other sushi restaurants around.

I've been to this place a few times since its opened up. The sushi is quite fresh and cheap. Its a place that if your craving for sushi and your near this, stop by! Its also 50% off. Its not the best, but far being the worst. And its definately better than the one across the street. My review will come later on that other sushi place. Recommend the violet roll, but only if you like chinese eggplant. Anyways! Happy Eatings!!

Loved it! We were visiting from out of town and looking for a place to take our kids (ages 8 and 10). We sat at the hibachi table and our chef made everyone's night. So much fund watching him and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Beyond my expectations.

My boyfriend and I went to this place tonight because of the reviews on Yelp. I have never, in my life, received worse service. It trumps ANY bad restaurant expeirence I've EVER had. The server was so RUDE I was SPEECHLESS. When my boyfriend asked for the manager, the server pointed at him and said SEE? She would not bring him to our table. My boyfriend had to physically get up and go to the manager. She pretty much got EVERYTHING wrong. Our soups & salads! How do you mess that up? My boyfriends hibachi dinner was REALLY REALLY good though, so I suggest if you go, you DO NOT choose to sit at a dining table. WORST SERVICE EVER! I cannot get over it!

I love this place and can't pay full price for sushi ever again! I use to go once a week before I got bz with work. Only bad part is the hibachi can be noisy. Its the 1 of 2 places where I go to in Bensalem.

Service was extremely slow and it was freezing inside the restaurant. I came here about half an hour after they opened the restaurant and they claimed that it takes awhile for their heat to warm up. Ridiculous. Nothing special about the sushi. Oh, and the placement of the plates. Must they really have it angled so that the edge of the plate is pointing towards you? They placed all of our plates on the table this way and I thought they were definitely over-doing it. I also thought it was extremely obnoxious for the waiter to be standing next to our table giving us the stare down while we were counting our money to pay the bill. A little bit of respect please?

This is my favorite place for sushi. I can not comment on the hibachi because I have never had it here. I have been going here from the first time it opened. I continue to bring family, friends and business associates to this place. Since the beginning, their sushi has been fast, fresh and delicious. My favorites are the Hawaii Roll, Christmas roll and Shrimp tempura roll. Both the service and food quality have stayed the same since they opened. Even with a whole big party of people, everything is good. The atmosphere is lovely. It very relaxing even when the place is full, you can still have a private nice conversation. Seating is great for people of all sizes. Tables, booths, 1/2 & 1/2 and of course stools at the hibachi grills. I recommend this place to everyone and I go back there frequently. I order take-out often too.

  • Sasha C.

Stop by here at least once a month for a plate full of sushi. All sushi at a discounted price... very reasonable. The interior is absolutely lovely and very relaxing. It can get a little noisy when there are crowds on the hibachi side but areas are slightly divided. Before this place, I never liked sushi & now I love it!!

The huge billboard on I-95N proclaiming 50 percent off sushi Monday-Thursday called to me! Shogun is pretty sizable for a town like Bensalem, especially when there's another sushi restaurant within spitting distance (Sakura on the other side of Street Road) and Tako on Galloway (one of my faves). Their selection of half-off sushi is not bad. Everything we ordered was tasty enough. The rolls range from $2-3 for the standard stuff (spicy salmon, eel, etc.), and $5-6 for the special rolls. The Violet roll was really good - crab and eel tempura with avocado, topped with eggplant! Sounds weird, but it was really yummy. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Our server did tell us early on that it would be slow, so I guess points for the advance warning, but it still shouldn't have been that slow for the number of people in the restaurant. Maybe add another sushi chef? Best thing about the half-off sushi is that applies to takeout orders too. Definitely worth a visit.

  • Luan P.

I can't remember how many times I've seen the billboard sign for Shogun on the highway. I tried to ignore it but eventually it got to me and I had to try it. My girl and I went there two days after a snow storm so it was rather quiet. We went for lunch and was pleasantly surprise that all of their special rolls were half priced off. We enjoyed all of the rolls we ordered, they were all fresh and tasty. The restaurant was a bit cold, or maybe it was just a snow day. The sushi is good but miso soup was much over charged, 2 dollars a bowl (tiny bowl) with barely any seaweed or tofu at all, or soup for the matter. Not the best out there but definitely better than Sakura's down the street.

This place has great food. Someone recommended it to my family and we have become a sushi lover since then. The only thing that we can't stand is the wait time. Other than that, we have been quite satisfied. We'd love to recommend it our friends as well.

  • Stefanie L.

This is a good place to go to when you want Sushi for 50% off! Sure, there are things that are not so great, it's super loud on crowded nights if there are a ton of people at the Hibachi grills and sometimes you wait a little bit for your food, but I find it worth it because I really enjoy a good relatively inexpensive sushi meal. It is located in a strip mall in Bensalem so don't go in expecting the fanciest of places either. I've never been let down by this place and I love going in to get the sweet potato, summer, and pink lady rolls.

  • Carla H.

I also LOVE Shogun!!! 50% off sushi everyday!!!!! Who could not love it. The specialty rolls are delicious, always fresh, and artfully prepared. Can feed two sushi lovers a very filling dinner for under $20!! Amazing.

This is my favorite restaurant for sushi for the following reasons": 1-sushi is consistently amazing 2-half off sushi menu 3-service is great, food comes out appropriately fast 4-atmosphere is nice. Not too fancy, not shabby at all.

    (5)
  • Joe L.

Can't beat half off menu prices on delicious, fresh sushi rolls! Plus it's a BYOB! The waitresses are all very friendly and attentive. Inside the decor is minimalistic yet cozy. It is slightly better than Sakura across the street in my opinion.

    (5)
  • Ahing H.

When they first opened and were only half price on Mondays and Tuesdays, this place was great because you were getting full price ingredients at a promotional rate. Now that it's half price all the time, it seems as if so are the ingredients and quality as well. It'll get you over the craving for sushi though

This restaurant is a brand new baby, being one month old, but they perform as if they have been doing it daily for years! From service to food presentation, they never miss a beat. The decor is bright and cheerful and has a warm, yet open feel to it. Located in a strip mall, which seems to be the norm for new restaurant openings anymore, once inside you forget all about the location. Windows are tinted and bamboo shades cover them to a half way point. Black lacquered tables, chairs and upholstered booths sit under wooden rafters from above. On the other side of the open, dividing wall are eight Hibachi tables for you to enjoy Teppanyaki style food. At the far front of the restaurant is a Sushi Bar. They have no liquor licence, so it is BYOB. I met hubby for a late lunch at 2:30 and the restaurant was empty, except for two ladies and several others ordering take out. They do close down between 3:00 - 4:30 for their own lunch break. Hubby wanted Teppanyaki and after a quick glance at the menu, I knew I wanted so much more. Knowing they were about to go on break and giving us the choice, we did not mind moving from the Hibachi table to a regular table. I always think it is a sin to mess up those shiny new stainless steel tables for one or two people anyway! They cooked hubby's sirloin steak and fried rice in the kitchen. All of the beef that is used here, is certified premium Black Angus. They started him immediately with Clear Soup with scallions, fried onions and mushrooms. He liked it, but I thought it was bland, squeeze that chicken or dip it a few more times! He then got his salad with some of the best ginger dressing I have ever had. Notice how we share, it's nice to share, then you have the chance to sample so much more and I explain to him, I have to do it for Yelp! His Sirloin was juicy, tender and cooked perfectly and we both loved the tender, onion filled fried rice. I go hog wild when ordering and I really can not blame it on Yelp, because I have never been a cheap date. However, I do have it for my lunch, for the next two days, so it all works out in the long run. Hello Shogun! Show me what you've got! I had the Harumaki which was one of the best I have ever had! The Shumai was good, along with the accompanying sauce, I have had better. The Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll; good and the Godzilla Roll, which is a house specialty of barely seared salmon, avocado, spicy tuna and a horseradish sauce, which was remarkable! Their wasabi is very pure and rates high on my scale! For my entree, hey, what? I had the Live Lobster Salad and it was heaven. This was a chilled and very generous portion of lobster with sweetly diced honeydew melon, strawberries, cherry tomatoes and a Japanese mayo dressing, barely kissing it. Total before 20% off $54.and change, final cost $42. and change, plus gratuity. Bottom line, Yazmin still knocks my socks off, but Shogun does get my toes wiggling and I will be back to try more! We left quite happy, indeed. Two final notes, ask for a to go menu first, because there are 20% coupons on the front and number two, if you stand still long enough, they may build a Strip Mall on top of you and if they do, just hope it has a restaurant as good as this inside.

The location of this place is ugly on the outside. However, the inside is another story. They have all of their special rolls at 50% off and they are quite creative & delicious. However, it takes forever to get your food. I've been here many times & couldn't pass out the great value so I will wait for my food! They also have hibachi grills there if that's your cup of tea.

this place can get quite busy & you might have to wait a bit for your food. but its tasty! the eggplant roll is so wondeful! their chicken tempura roll is made with lettuce though, be warned. good service & the hibachi was fun too!

  • Tracy G.

The sushi is WONDERFUL and they are having a sale now- all sushi 1/2 off. The hibatchi is to die for too. I get take out here at least once a week. The hibatchi take out is my favorite with shrimp tempura running a close second. Highly recommend!!

I am never coming back to this place again... i called and made reservations for my birthday for 9 people i explained to the lady on the phone that i would like a larger table so we are comfortable to enjoy ourselves she said no problem... we arrive at the place 10 minutes ahead and they lead us to a small hibachi table, i explained to the lady that i called and made sure that they gave us a big table and she proceeded to tell me that she told me that we wont be able to get the larger table... i asked for the manager and he proceeded to tell me that they just made reservations for 10 people and they cant seat us at a bigger table since they would pay more... the manager was really rude and disrespectful and unaccommodating, he wouldn't give us a bigger table we had to leave and go to a different place. I will never be back and i will be sure to spread the word. STAY AWAY !!!

Since we moved to Bensalem we have not found a better sushi restaurant. The service is very friendly, the food is wonderful and the prices are great. We love going to the sushi bar, although they do have several hibachi grills, and the staff make us feel very welcome. The chef is very friendly, and will even make suggestions on what to get based on previous purchases or what we "feel" like that day. Its wonderful when you may have only tried one or two things and they make something special just for you that is not on the menu. We have taken family from Virginia and Ohio with us to this restaurant and were told it beats anything they have at home. The food is fresh, tasty and well worth the trip. The prices are unbelievable. My wife and I can eat for 20 dollars and that includes getting lobster, shrimp and crab rolls. If you want to try a new place you cannot go wrong with Shogun. Go sit at the sushi bar, chat with the chef and be ready to get a great meal at a terrific price.

Just average. They have a big selection. I went with a group and after a few rolls, everything taste the same. There isn't a real wow factor here. Something tasted "off" about every roll. Too much had tempura or strange sauces. Sakura across the street is much better

This place has some of the best sushi in the area. The have a list of 30-35 rotating specialty rolls, along with about 20 regualr rolls, that they feature at half price. I recomend the Shogun Roll (Spicy salmon wrapped in yellow soy paper topped with baked scallops) and the Sapporo Roll (Spicy tuna and avocado inside topped with salmon and a Lemon Citron sauce.) The place is BYOB so bring your favorite wine and enjoy sushi for two, then enjoy the bill when it comes in at under $30! The servers don't always speak great English, so make sure you bring along someone to have decent conversation with. They also have hibachi, if you're into that.

I love Shogun!! Their 50% off sushi menu is very extensive, and is not limited to the basic rolls. They offer the menu everyday, and make delicious sushi. They're quick with the food, too. The decor is really nice inside, and it has a great atmosphere. Definitely check out the 50% off menu for sushi. You can get the 'fancier' rolls and feed two people for under $20. The roll is that is wrapped with the yellow soy paper and topped with baked scallops is amazing!!!

I think I might keep these people in business :) I dine here 1-3 times a month. They are friendly, the environment it calm and inviting, and the food is great. I think one time my Sapporo Roll was not the best, but other then that no complaints. My last birthday about 14 of us dined here for Hibachi. It is BYOB which saves money for large groups dining out.

I only eat chicken, and sushi, I won't get the salmon hibachi but I'll get sushi with salmon in it (Weird I know). So I can't judge the restaurant on other meats. But anyway, Shogun has never disappointed me. Even though I have heard mixed reviews it has never let me down. The chicken hibachi is amazing! The soup I'm not a big fan of but the salad, chicken, rice and vegetables are phenomenal. The sushi is also great! The Sweet Potato Tempura and American Dragon Roll are my personal favorites but there are others that are good too! my friends and i usually get our favorites and try something new. We have had a few bad experiences trying new stuff but the ones we do love make us forget about the bad sushi. The place is nice and spacious and always clean when I have gone. I've done sushi a few times and hibachi a couple and I haven't had a bad experience. The employees are friendly and the chefs are good at what they do. I don't know how the other meats are but my friends who I have gone with like them, so I'm assuming it's just as good! The only reason I give this restaurant 4 stars is because sometimes it takes a while to get our food and not all of the sushi is amazing.

I never understood why a town like Bensalem needs three sushi restaurants. Shogun has amazingly fresh sushi. Not as packed on the weekends means you can actually get served and a seat quickly. Great food good service.

I haven't yelped in awhile, so I'll yelp this place I went to 2 nights ago. It was pretty good. Your standard hibachi experience. Hibachi steakhouses normally have 4 seperate courses, so we'll go through course by course. The Ginger Dressing Salad was slammin'. Some of the best tasting Ginger Dressing I've had in awhile. The clear soup was also good, nothing special though, didn't knock my socks off or anything. The main course was next...I got the Filet & Lobster Combo for my Teppanyaki of choice. I also chose the noodles as a side (2 bucks extra). What perplexed me there was that the noodles or fried rice were both 2 extra, but I didn't get white rice also with this. I just found that odd for some reason. I also thought they vegetable pile was a little skimped on when it hit my plate. My filet however, was AWESOME. Melted right in my mouth. Top notch slab o meat. The Lobster was also very good, grilled just right, not too much to the point where it was overdone and chewy. Finally for dessert a scoop of palate cleansing Chocolate Ice Cream. I find lots of Hibachis lately has foregone this free one scoop, so it was a nice touch. Overall I definitely enjoyed my meal, But it wasn't incredible or anything. I've had both better and worse Hibachi. I would definitely go back, and I'd definitely check out the Sushi because the menu sounded good. It's also a very nice and new room, just like the other new Japanese place across the street (Sakura). Maybe Bensalem is finally turning it around with some decent cuisine. The place has been a food black hole for years. So hopefully this place can get some business and start a trend.

I absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I stopped in one day for a quick lunch and wound up sitting down at the Hibachi table and boy were we glad we did. What an experience! It was only us two at the table and they treated us great. The service was excellent and the staff very polite. And the food was outstanding!!! Their beef fried rice is to die for!!! So delicious.. and also there chicken and vegetables were also delicious. This is now our favorite spot, we either eat in or order out at least twice a week, maybe more. And the price is soooo reasonable, $24 bucks for a full course meal (lunch) I recommend this place to everyone. EXCELLENT!!!!!

I tried the 50% off menu and it was really just that..small portions of fish, not outstanding.....I love Sakura across the street...nicer menu and better taste overall

I love Shogun. I order take out here every week. I've also dined here with friends a few times, and it's BYOB. I've only had their sushi, so I can't tell you if the hibachi is good or not, but the hibachi area is huge. Their sushi is fresh, fresh, fresh! I eat a ton of sashimi so fresh is extra important if I don't want to be spend time hugging my toilet bowl. The lunch specials are a great value, especially the bento boxes, and they are all about $10. I actually find the portions to be unbelievably huge, which is why I have stuck with Shogun although there are two other sushi places, Sakura and Tako, nearby. On the critical side: There is a $10 minimum for credit card charges, which is a pain when I only want the 2 rolls of sushi lunch special that comes with salad and miso soup that is $8.50. Also six pieces of shumai is totally not worth $4.50. I'm sorry, but you might as well take your tail to H-Mart and get some of the frozen version. This location is also in a strip mall, but so is most of Bensalem.

THE FOOD is FIVE STAR QUALITY! And I have been a loyal customer of this place for a while, but recently a bad experience has prompted this negative review. And I just want all customers to beware as I should have been. Long story short... There was a discrepancy in my bill where I was over charged by 25$, I was in a party of 5 and two others decided to pay with cash. The waiter was instructed to deduct the cash amount first, and put the remainder of the bill on my card. When the waiter came back with the receipts I noticed he charged the entire bill to my card and thought the cash was his tip. A honest mistake so I brought it to the waiters attention and he brought me a new receipt with the correct charge on it. And I asked him to confirm I would not be over charged. He did so... This was this past Saturday... Well low and behold come Monday morning the overcharge amount was on my card and he pocketed the cash for a tip. I am disheartened to say this place has forever lost my business.

The food is good, not spectacular but the wait!!!!! You have to wait so long for them to give you uncooked food, sashimi is raw fish why do I have to wait 50 minutes for my order????? Don't come hungry or in a rush, be ready to wait and wait

I wish I could give this place ZERO stars. Went there today for lunch with 5 girlfriends. As soon as we walked in, it was muggy, I had my 3 month old son with me and asked if the air was on. I was rudely given a quick response that it was on already. I let that slide. Next, Half of our party wanted sushi, the other wanted hibachi. We were told there was a minimum to sit in the hibachi area. And at least 4 guests needed to get hibachi. I asked if they were able to allow an exception because one of my girlfriends came for the experience of watching them cook the food. No answer from Jennifer our chipper server. We were the only guests there mind you, and we were escorted to another table. The server, Jennifer, was annoyed the entire time and took everyone's drink, except mine, to our new table. Mind you, I have a car seat, diaper bag, baby, purse, and now 2 cups to carry to my new seat. There we sat for 30 minutes, without acknowledgment no order taken, no refills, nothing. Finally we flagged down the other server working, Ada. She took our order. We enjoyed the shrimp and mango roll, I liked my shrimp fried rice. The salad that comes with the hibachi was drenched with dressing. I'll be going to Sakura and A1 from now on, as I was not impressed with Sho Gun in the least. Both locations offer better service, and better quality food. If the service would have been slightly better, It would of deserved this 1 star. I hope Ada was the recipient of our gracious 20% tip.

Shogun was recommended to my dad by an acquaintance, so we decided to try it out. Not impressed. The miso soup wasn't too bad, not enough tofu in my opinion. The edamame were a bit mushy inside which is usually a sign of them being kept in the refrigerator too long. We got several rolls. One was deep fried and not great. My spicy tuna roll was somewhat bland. The server was very nice but the food was not great. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

This is where I go when I want sushi. Close to home, great prices, good food, favorable service. The sushi always comes out on point for me, as well as the seaweed salad. I don't ever order off the "regular" menu, though I've sampled from others who aren't sushi lovers. That stuff doesn't really do it for me, so I'll stick with the sushi! I've also never sat at the hibachi station, but I've heard great things. I've never had issues with the servers or waiting for food. If you're in the area, give it a go!

This place is great! We order from them at work all the time! 1/2 price sushi al the time. This is the first time eating in. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Food is great. Check it out!

This week I went to a family birthday dinner in the hibachi section of the restaurant. They boost a "50% off" deal and boy do you get what you are paying for. The sushi was sub par. I cannot speak for the hibachi dinners, as I was the only one in the group to not have an entree. The wait staff was extremely unhelpful when it came to dietary questions. Me, being vegan, and having a child in the group with a shellfish/peanut allergy seemed to not concern them, AT ALL. They did not know what ingredients contained dairy or fish oil because "they get them from another place", which concerns me with how fresh the food is here. As for the allergy, the chef did not seem worried about any food cross contamination of any sort and cooked the seafood RIGHT next to the food that was to be served to the child in our group with the allergy. I guess this place is good if you want cheap food, but just be aware that the product is also just that, cheap. It is also BYOB, which is cool if you have a DD, since anywhere in the Northeast is far from walking distance.

I guess this is as good as it gets around here. I ordered my 3 rolls ahead of time for pick up. Lady told me 20mins, got there in 30 minutes and to wait another 20mins... smh.. the sushi was smashed into the to-go container and was not very appealing but I was hungry. Everything was 50% off so I guess I can't complain. Make sure to order from the discounted menu.

There was one couple in the restaurant. Me and 2 guest. We got our food. No one ever came back. We waited 40 min after our meal literally. Before someone came by. Not once. At that time we asked for refills, they never came. Our desert came out. With the bill. No refills. I walked out got to My car noticed I left my doggy bag I walled right back in it had been thrown out. SMH. This was the worst service I ever had. I was polite and I will politely not return. I've been a patron since they opened.

A few years ago, possibly even around the time this place opened I would have given Shogun 5 Stars. Nowadays after the "Sushi Boom" or whatever you want to call it ... It's 3 stars. Plenty of newer restaurants with better sushi(presentation and flavor) nowadays. (just my opinion) With that being said it's a byob with good sushi and hibachi ... that's good enough for me. (be sure to also try Ahi and kyoto)

Shogun is great! I love coming to eat here with my family. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh. I recommend: Kani Salad,Flyer Roll, Green tea, fried rice...these Are some of my favorites. Waiters are friendly and suggest yummy things ro eat. Enjoy! You'll like it there!

Oh My Goodness! Hands down some of the best sushi around. I have been going to Sho Gun for a few years now and i have yet to be disappointed by anything they put in front of me. I highly suggest when you come in that you try their specialty rolls. You do wait a few minutes longer for the sushi but it is really worth it. The service is great as well. I have never been to a place that is so on top of clearing a table when they see a plate pushed to the side. You can enjoy hibachi as well. I have never had their hibachi but I know people who have and rave about the food and the service of the chef. They also comment on how funny the chef is and how well he accommodates everyone at the table. You can call and place an order for pick up with ease. And when you pick up your order you get everything as if you were eating in. And the same great service at the counter. Please bring your own. Sho Gun is a BYOB. Which I do not mind. They do have delicious hot tea though. Oh and their green tea ice cream amazing!

I'm going to turn into a fish soon with all the sushi I keep ordering. My normal spot is the competitor, but I wanted to give Shogun a try (from all the great reviews). Service here is top notch. They are very fast and speak very good english, however, the food isn't amazing. The size of the sushi rolls on the 50% off menu is bigger, but the taste wasn't quite there. We ordered 6 rolls between myself and my wife. Fancy Spider Roll Flyer Roll Spicy Shrimp Dragon Roll Shrimp Tempura Roll Fried Lobster Dynamite Roll Street Roll The only one that really stood out was the fancy spider roll. It consisted of soft shell crab and topped with eel and salmon (I believe?). That was the only one that tasted fresh. The items with Shrimp tempura in it didn't taste really fresh. The shrimp tempura was cold and on the hard side. Also, the rice of the sushi was also a tad harder than I'm used to. Overall: I think I'll stick with my normal spot, but I do want to come back here to check out the hibachi.

This place is amazing! Best sushi I've ever had. The hibachi is really good also. We are regulars here and I haven't gotten anything that I don't like. The sushi is always nice and fresh and prepared for you at the time of order. Never pre-prepared. Deserts and appetizers are also delicious! The staff is pretty friendly & their prices for sushi cannot be beat! So cheap for quality food. Amazing. We love this place!! Always a fun date night or girls night. It is also BYOB. Give it a try!

Well waited 45 mins for my food then asked where it was they told me that they had a lot of carry out orders funny thing never heard the phone ring more then twice reason for no stars this time then tells me there is a lot of orders really most of the people that cam in with us ate and left and we are still here sad to say I may not come back to this place if I pay full price on my meal they need to know do what's right

Don't listen to reviews on the sushi . It's the worst I ever had . The rice isn't sticky . There isn't much fish in the rolls . The spicy tuna is like tuna salad . It was 50% off rolls that should never have been sold !

I visited Shogun on 4/10/15 with my boyfriend, in the mood for some sushi. Being that it was a Friday night, and that I had read the Yelp reviews prior to arriving, we anticipated a wait. And we waited. We were seated within 20 minutes, but it took the waitresses a while to get to our drink/food order. The wait staff was kind and attentive, but clearly busy. Also, it took a while for the food to arrive. My advice: order appetizers and enjoy edamame or a salad prior to getting your entree. One of our entrees (hibachi combo) came with miso soup and a salad, which were delicious. He didn't really know what sushi to order, so I ordered us sushi while he placed a hibachi grill order. I chose the California roll, Tiffany roll and the Crazy Friday roll. He chose to get grilled calamari and scallops. The wait was soooooo worth it. Delicious sushi for a highway robbery price ($30 total...wait what?!?). ALSO BYOB = heaven. We considered, but opted out of bringing our own drinks. Overall impression: Great food at great prices. Go during non-peak service hours, bring a bottle of your choice, (weekends/evenings) or order your food to go!

This place has half off sushi rolls 7 days a week. Of course you have to order from a specific menu but the choices are almost endless. Our table had 4 people and we ordered 17 different rolls. The service was ... Ok.... Our waiter seemed to be in a rush throughout the entire night, but the sushi for the most part tasted good, but not the best that I've ever had. Overall, I'll definitely revisit this place if I'm in the mood of trying different rolls !

Sushi was good, not great. Service was awesome especially for it being slammed on a Friday night. I was a little put off that I asked for some sliced jalapeño for my rolls and was told the cooks were too busy to do it. Other than that tho the prices are great, it is clean, and the staff is very polite and attentive.

Over the last four or five years I have eaten at this place a handful of times. They claim to have 50% off sushi and roll I ask how much of a deal is it if they have been doing it so long the discounted price is print in there menu. The food is really good. So why the yelp review now, well last nights meal was not the five star experience it was four years ago, the dish they gave use had old food dried to them and my wife's sushi came out after ever one at the table had almost finished there meal. I think this soon will be on my no eat list of it gets any worse.

The service was horrible. My friend waited 30 minutes before he received his food. We asked the waiters about 3 times and they did nothing until the fourth time we asked. When my friend finally received his food he did not get an apology for the lateness. The restaurant was not busy at all so I feel their was no excuse for waiting 30 minutes for his food. The waiters seemed like they didn't really care. And they were gone for a long time before checking up on us. Horrible service! I will not be going back.

While visiting a friend in Bensalem we decided to stop by for some half price sushi, which was not the best sushi I've ever had but sufficient for the price. My boyfriend was thrilled because they had three deep fried rolls on the menu, but I believe at least two had cheese... and a lot of it. The spicy tuna roll probably the worst I've ever had being that it was dry and flavorless, but I had two other types of rolls that were good. We finished off the meal with the suggested green tea ice cream that was extremely palatable. Waitress was nice, helpful with the menu, and paid close attention to us. Great place for a quick weeknight meal, would definitely go back.

After going to Tako Sushi for the last year, we stopped by Shogun. It was not even close how much better Tako is. I thought it was a fluke and went back to Shogun again and it wasn't good again. Tako Sushi is hands down better than Shogun and I don't think I'll be going back to Shogun.

I have only been to Shogun for the sushi and it never disappoints! It's really clean and modern inside, with hibachi on one side and dinner/sushi on the other. It's also BYOB. This has become our go-to spot for sushi. We have tried a lot of their rolls and liked every single one of them! We have had: Samurai, Wasabi Snow Crab, Spicy Shrimp Dragon, Street Roll, Spicy Asparagus, Nisen Roll, Salmon Tempura, Seaweed Roll, Avocado Roll. These rolls are very large and filling! The wait for sushi on Friday and Saturday nights can sometimes be a bit long but it's definitely worth the wait!

Before I write this review, I feel the need to preface it by admitting that I am Sakura's #1 cheerleader. If you're unfamiliar with the reference, Sakura is the competitor sushi restaurant directly across the street. That said, Shogun is not bad. Simply put, Sakura is just better. I will say that we loved the ichibon roll. I've never had the hibachi, but I've heard good things. If you are on the south side of Street Road and have a phobia of crossing over the other side, by all means, settle for Shogun! It really is decent food. But really, I insist that you risk your life and make the journey across the ferocious four lane road for the sake of some even better sushi.

Every year for my birthday, I am told to pick a restaurant to go to and it always happens that my sister picks it for me! Well, this year was like no other and I wasnt pissed off that my sister chose this place for me. The entertainment, food, and chef are all incredible. Even the sushi looks like pieces of art. it is all fabulous. I was pleasantly surprised. The one chef that we had was really outgoing and funny. He kept squirting us with shots of Saki. I told him I was afraid because I didnt want him to miss my mouth, so of course, he got it all over my face and hair. They are so talented to begin with but this chef did so many tricks and everything and it was so much fun. If you go monday-thursday, they do a dinner party special and its so much cheaper. Go! Now!

Very nice selection and don't be put off by half of sushi they always have it and switch what rolls you can get. I highly suggest this place if you are just starting in the sushi craze. If you are not into sushi they have hibachi foods as well which are just as good. Also a byob place!

Don't be discouraged by the location. The first time I came here- I was a little put off by the run down parking lot and the 50% off LED sign in the window. Don't be fooled- this place is a HIDDEN GEM! This sushi is out of this world delicious! I think it's probably some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. Period. I think my favorite is the baked Philadelphia roll- it literally melts in your mouth. My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times and we have never been disappointed. To top it off- you can beat their prices. 50% off all of the time! Have I sold you yet?! Try it out, you won't be disappointed. I'm pretty sure I'm salivating right now :)

When I am looking for good sushi on a budget this is my place to go. I love their assortment of sushi rolls and more inclined to constantly try new rolls since the prices are so inviting. My absolute favs are hot fancy roll and salmon crunchy roll. Never had an issue with quality there. I also love their hibachi salad dressing. I have done the whole hibachi thing there and it is a nice presentation as well but I usually just rock out in the booths for sushi. I dinged them one star because on one event where I went with a group - 2 adults and 4 children, the server was a complete d*#k as soon as we sat down. My feeling is because we had a group of kids who were actually well behaved but he was so rude and tried to question their ages when we ordered kids hibachi dinner. My daughter was 8 but is extremely tall for her age and he said she didn't look 8 and I had to tell him it's not that serious for me to lie about trying to get her a meal at a kid rate. Other than that I never had an issue with service there.

Excellent value, the food is always consistently delicious. Get the viva las Vegas roll, you won't be disappointed! Also the seaweed salad is the best in the area by far. The sushi is not the best I have ever had but when taking into consideration the law of diminishing return this place offers the best bang for your buck. The atmosphere is pleasant for dine in and my orders for take out have always been 100% accurate.

The majority of my rating score goes to the fact that: 1. 50% off sushi 2. BYOB 3. location (near my train station) The service was a bit slow but we went as a group so we passed the time catching up and drinking (yay BYOB!). The sushi itself was good, but not memorable. But it's a good deal overall. I'd definitely come back or take out some 50% off sushi!

    (4)
  • Julie W.

I'm not sure what some of the complaints about overpricing is because this place is hands-down the CHEAPEST quality sushi place I've been to - 50% off! I've only dined here twice, and both happened to be 50% off days, so I'm starting to think this is a regular event or something. But that aside, the sushi is great too. My friends and I decided to experiment and just tried a bunch of rolls together. We were definitely delighted by some of the unprecedented tastes. They have a lot of cooked rolls too that are not limited to just the typical Eel Avocado and California rolls, etc. The sauces that they use are awesome too - makes you wanting for more. Also the wait isn't bad either as most of the time not many people are dining there. And this place can definitely fill you up without wrecking the budget. I always get more to go since I live pretty far away, but my friends and I are definitely willing to drive the extra miles to get some good sushi!!!

First lets start off by saying the sushi was good. Don't get me wrong, it was not amazing, but it wasn't bad. When I walked in, I noticed the decor was really modern and had a nice feel to it. This place has a hibachi also which is a double plus. Now let's get onto why I gave it a sub par review. The service was unfriendly and not welcoming. When I was unsure of something on the menu and asked for advice, I was given an attitude as if the waiter didn't want to explain or give me the time of day. Even after the bad service, I was not affected by it. What got me set off was that we ordered rice and got charged some ridiculous price for it and after I asked for extra spicy mayo on the side, I was charged a dollar. First off, to all the people who may say that it's cheap of me to say that, let's be honest, spicy mayo shouldn't cost a dollar. It's a condiment. It's like going to mcdonalds and asking for barbecue sauce and mcdonalds charges you a dollar for it. It's irritating to see someone charge you for something like that. All in all the food was good, but the experience as a whole was bad and because of that, I won't be back.

As others point out, the location is a put-off. Had I not read reviews of the place first, I never would've gone there at all. Even with reading the reviews, once I headed into the run-down shopping area, I almost didn't go inside the restaurant. The neon flashing sign almost sealed the deal of expecting food poisoning, ha. As we walked across the parking lot, I kept telling my dinner buddy "We don't have to go here. We can go somewhere else. Really, it's okay..." But as soon as we walked in, my opinion started to change. It's unexpectedly nice inside! The hibachi grill show on one side is interesting, even if you're sitting on the dinner/sushi side instead, although I recommend staying on the right if you want to have conversation because the hibachi area can get noisy. I've been back several times since and the food has always been delicious....both sushi and hibachi orders. The 50% off sushi prices also made me skeptical of what to expect, but I've tried a variety so far and they've all ranged from "pretty good" to "mmm, I want some more!"....mostly on the latter end of that scale. The only complaint I have is that a single night I was there, I ordered sushi and my friend order a hibachi dinner. Theirs arrived several minutes before mine did, which is just bad timing in general and meant my partner really wanted to wait for mine to arrive before eating...but ultimately had to start without me for fear of their delicious steak getting cold (I insisted they go ahead!). I have had similar orders come out at the same time on other nights, so I'm sure they were just particularly busy that night and the timing wasn't right. It certainly won't prevent me from going back again and in hindsight, I guess I'd rather they bring out the hot food immediately than to let it sit in the kitchen getting cold instead.

Yes the huge flashing 50% off sign is cheesy and yes it is in a strip mall that is filled with nothing but who cares. The food is amazing and for the price they charge...sheesh I have paid quadruple at Raw in Center City. The baked philadelphia roll, the violet roll, the green godzilla, and the ichiban was what i had....you will not be disappointed.

I go to Shogun all the time... I'm obsessed! It's located in a strip mall so you wouldn't expect much from this place but it's actually very spacious and the decor is nice. I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit. The best part is that it's ridiculously inexpensive so you really can't beat that! I recommend the seaweed salad, street roll, spicy asparagus roll, and oshinko roll.

Some friends and I stumbled upon Shogun after growing impatient with the wait at nearby Sakura. Located in one of Bensalem's infamous, semi-abandoned looking strip malls, Shogun is very unassuming from the outside. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised with the inside! Shogun is set up with a sushi section and a hibachi section. The hibachi section seems like the most happening part of the restaurant. Shogun was my first hibachi experience, and it was a lot of fun! The cook had a great personality and put on a cute little show. For the price, this has to be the best deal in town. For $18 I had a scallop hibachi dinner along with miso soup, a salad with some of the best dressing I have ever had, and ice cream as well as a few random saki shots. We also ordered a few sushi rolls as apps which were pretty good. Oh, did I mention Shogun is a BYOB? Score! If I was looking for a strictly sushi dinner I'd probably go elsewhere, but Shogun is a great option for a fun night out with friends.
