Cafe on the Park is a cute little restaurant with a very friendly staff. The old-fashioned soda fountain bar/counter really gives the place a great feel! My husband and I have eaten breakfast here a few times and the service is always fast (especially when you see the size of their tiny kitchen=size of a closet). Food is always delicious and the portions are not too big.

Take a pretty park, complete with gazebo, and with a good sized :"creek" on one side and an antique train and train station on the other. Now add to the picture a suspension bridge over the "creek" from which you can feed the ducks, carp, and trout. And rising up from the stream valley is the edge of a downtown with beautiful Victorian buildings climbing up a tall hill and even taller hills the other direction. It's so lovely that weddings take place there, families bring their children, and lean, muscled cyclists stop before climbing those hills. It's the kind of scene that makes you want to linger, perhaps over coffee or an ice cream in summer, just drinking in this beautiful place. A person can work up an appetite between admiring the scene and the intense labor of throwing feed to ducks, carp, and trout. Fortunately, just across the street from the park, you can get that latte, espresso, coffee, tea and you can get lunch and great desserts . . . and on Friday and Saturday evenings, you can now get special fixed-price dinners. If you try the dinners, be sure to check out the menu selection, because the prix fixe choices are limited. You can still order from the regular menu. cafeonthepark.net The food is quite good. The chef makes wonderful mousse, and they buy desserts from a pastry chef. They buy local, including Musser's milk, from cows raised and milk just a few miles west of town. The menu could be improved by offering a few more vegetarian options, but, I have to say, they have always been amazingly accommodating to my requests for vegetarian options, and the chef even seems to like the challenge. The restaurant is in an old restored building with an antique soda fountain - original to the place. So you can also get shakes and other ice cream treats. It is wheel chair accessible. And once you've finished eating, take a stroll uphill into town. Bellefonte is increasingly home to artists. It's a town that has suffered from losing industry, but there is so much to like about the town. From the hilltops, you get a great view over the valley to the next mountain range. There are also amazing Victorian houses block after block. There is so much positive about this place that I have lingered over 4 v. 5 stars. If only there were a 4.5. Check it out, and see what you think. Regular Hours: Monday: Closed Tuesday-Friday 7am - 3pm, Saturday 7am - 3pm, Sunday 9am - 2pm Dinner Hours: Friday and Saturday, 5-9pm

When I first wrote a review of this establishment, I gave it 4 stars because the food is quite good. However, after visiting multiple times over the last few years, I have decided to downgrade my review. Here's why: the waitresses are often incredibly slow and rude. They act put out by everyday requests. Ask for a refill on your drink or to order a desert and you will get a big sigh and a sour look. One time, they told my party that arrived ten minutes before the end of breakfast that none of us could order breakfast unless we all ordered breakfast. Seriously?! Why? Then, when we all decided to order breakfast the waitress acted really pissed off! If you want good food AND friendly service, walk one block up to Cool Beans.

LOVE this place. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is it is really small. But the food is wonderful and they even offer Gluten free! And I also love that they sell soup with half a sandwich. Perfect lunch.

Stopped here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Had the Bulls-Eye breakfast, which was tasty. The hash browns were a little greasy, but the fruit dish was a refreshing side treat. The waitress never left my coffee cup less than half full, so I sat by the front window and enjoyed sipping excellent coffee while watching the train station and kids play in the park. A nice, cozy joint!

I'm a huge fan of breakfast but not of having to wake up to make it for the brunch run. Twice now Cafe on the Park has served me in a jam. Once for a quick cup of coffee (they weren't yet open for the evening!) and just last week for a tasty brunch. My Southern gentleman friend ordered the Bellefonte Bulls-Eye with an extra egg and classic scrapple. He deems it best breakfast north of the Mason-Dixon. I ordered the French toast, but I'm a real weenie when is comes to soggy bread, so Cafe on the Park made it to order. If you are looking for a relaxed date, or a nice Sunday afternoon with low stress, Cafe on the Park and a stroll around downtown Bellefonte is just what you need!

What a great little place! We just moved to Bellefonte not long ago and went here for our very first breakfast in town (while waiting on the movers). Breakfast is always delicious and there are several gluten-free, vegetarian, special-diet-friendly menu items. Those without any special diet will LOVE the french toast & bacon. :-) The cappuccino was the only disappointing part of breakfast. It was pretty awful. They are also very animal-friendly. One time we bought a bag of fish food for $1 and went to the park across the street to feed the fish & ducks. It was quite a generous bag of food and was so much fun! Another time we went back and had our dog with us. We were welcomed to bring the dog with us into the outdoor seating area. The owner (I believe) even brought us a free scoop of ice cream for our pup! Really great, delicious place to be.

Stopped here with our family on the way from the Midwest to our home in NYC. This is the quintessential small town cafe. The mushroom soup was the best I have ever had in my life. The sandwiches were simple, honest, and delicious. And the espresso was really not bad at all--pretty great actually, and I am very hard to please, even in New York. The food is not fancy but it is very well done and there is clearly care and deliberation put into everything. The people were friendly but not in-your-face friendly if you know what I mean. They gave us a loaf of day-old bread for the ducks in the park across the street and made lifelong friends of my toddlers in the process. We will make this drive again many times, Lord willing, and we will make a point to stop in beautiful Bellefonte whenever we can. And hopefully, it will be time for a bite when we do, so we can return to Cafe on the Park.

Gluten free options in Bellefonte! Cute little place across from the river and park. Feed the ducks your leftover bread when you're done.
