My wife and I are Indian food junkies. So we heard about this from a friend and went to it for lunch on their invitation. It is the standard Indian menu, with some intriquing additions. They have Dosas, which I have not seen in many locations. We ordered some as an appetizer and enjoyed it along with a side of sambar. Neither of which I've ever ordered in a restaurant before. Although, I have had them in friends homes. The next round were traditional Indian food fare. For the table we ordered Chicken korma, Aloo Gobi, Lamb Biriyani and Malai Kofta. Each was well flavored and cooked well. I only tried the Korma and Kofta. Both of the sauces had some sweetness to them, that I have not previously encountered. It had the traditional flavor with this addition. It made it very nice. We also ordered a wonderful spinach and cheese naan. This was something I do not normally find around the area. The ambiance is bright and cheery. Very colorful location. The waiter could be slightly more friendly, as we were the only guests for lunch this day. So he could not claim it was overly busy. If you want a quaint Indian restaurant with a mix of standard food items and some different Indian food items not normally served, give this place a try.

The food here was really good. Tried the vegetable samosas, garlic naan, and saag paneer and really enjoyed it all. The saag paneer had more complex flavors than at Aman's in Chalfont (another Indian restaurant I like) and I found it slightly more enjoyable. The samosas were bigger and much less greasy than others I've had. The outside seemed to be more of a fluffy/bready kind of batter than just a thin crispy shell. They were very good. I went with a group of 6 and we were easily accommodated but I don't think a group of more than 8 would work too well because the dining room is small. No one I was with was very familiar with Indian food but everyone enjoyed it. There's not much atmosphere--with the bright lighting, mediocre/low budget decor and no background music I wouldn't try to have a romantic meal here, but the friendly service and great food make it a good place to go for a casual meal with friends.

For food quality alone this would merit 5 stars - the chicken tikka masala is wonderful, as are the lamb korma and saag paneer. Tonight's lamb special was terrific, and I've literally never had anything that was less than delicious. The ambience is comfortable but not much more than that, so I can't put the overall rating any higher.

Couldnt ask for a better meal. Best traditional indian cusine in Philadelphia. I have been to about 15 different indian restaurants from city to burbs and this is by far the best. I had a vegeterian dish, shrimp dish and nann. Everything was cooked perfect.

Indian food at it's best! I've been here many times and everything has always been delicious! I highly recommend their Lamb Korma. It's just a little overpriced to get 5 stars.

ok first off the person that said saffron is not busy on friday and saturday cannot be talking about saffron in ambler! this place is soooo busy on the weekends its ridiculous! me and my girlfriend eat there at least 3 times a week. the service is great and the food is too die for. if you take the time to actually talk to the staff you will find that they are very friendly. if they do not seem like they interact much its because they are of a different culture. a culture that speaks when they are spoken to, so speak to them besides what u want to eat!!!!!!!!!!! i usually get the aloo naan wt the chutney, or the curry lamb omg the curry lamb is soooo tender and flavor full. i love the bismati rice wt it! any one that asks me how is the food, i give them a few recommendations and they've always came back to thank me. saffron will always have me as a customer keep up the good work!

Saffron's always hits the spot. Good Indian food, low cost, very convenient. Ordered the Morg (Chicken) Korma and MsD had the lentils. Both delightful! Big chunks of chicken in a creamy almond sauce. And this food is healthy! If you live nearby, this is definitely a can't miss treat.

The best Malai Kofta I've ever had. It was so awesome, I had to write this review today. Spot on spiciness and creaminess. Fresh food and prompt service every time we've visited. Its a hidden jewel in the heart of Ambler town. If you want to try authentic Indian food, this is the place to be.

Small place. Great food. Attentive staff. Decor is meh. We tried the samosa, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka marsala and garlic nann. The well-seasoned food was delivered promptly and arrived at the table hot. Reasonably priced. We would definitely go again.

This place has great food and the service is fine. It takes a while for the food to come out, but I am guessing it is cause the kitchen is small and they make everything fresh. I came here with my 18 month old daughter and my mom and they made us feel very welcome. The portions are fine: the dosas are huge. When I had my leftovers wrapped up they even gave me an extra cup of sambar and sauces to take home! This place is great.

Unquestionably the best Indian restaurant in the Philadelphia area. Totally affordable and the food is consistently fantastic. There is something special about a properly spiced, homemade samosa. Saffron delivers on those and everything I have ever eaten here. Highly recommended.

Saffron is terrific. We've tried most menu items and they have all been tasty. My husband and I have gone as a couple but we've gone with a group as large as 10 and had a great time (reservations recommended) It is a cozy spot in the heart of Ambler and we're trilled to have authentic Indian close to home.

We have lovers of Indian cuisine for many years, and to have someplace like Saffron open in our neighborhood was absolutely amazing. Our last visit this week was a perfect example. We were going to the movies, and only had an hour. The bhindi (okra) is always amazing, the eggplant wonderful. The lamb korma is just fantastic, a wonderful mixture of spices, creaminess, and tender lamb. The nan is fresh, our favorites are the onion and the peshawari naan, with raisins, cashews and coconut is more like a dessert, but amazing. As a BYOB, with reasonable prices, this is always a value experience. I could go on, as we have sampled many more dishes on their menu, but you get the idea. Saffron is worth a visit.

Ok, but we don't go back. We prefer Aman's indian bistro or Palace of Asia. Saffrons food was just very plain and did not have a kick.

Really delicious standard Indian fare served in an informal bistro atmosphere. I give an edge to this place over other Indian joint in the area because of the extra flair on the menu, with daily specials that are generally fantastic. Korma sauce was creamy and beautifully spiced. Especially enjoyed the appetizer special which was spinach leaves flash fried with a little batter with chickpeas and a lovely tangy vinegary spicy kick. Very large selection of vegetarian items.

This place is great. I was super skeptical about coming here at first because I am such a picky eater. But I am so glad that I tried it. I've been to Saffron probably a dozen times and I was never disappointed. The vegetable samosas are my favorite appetizer- they are so flavorful. The chicken tikka masala is my go-to dish here. I've also had the biryani which is great if you love rice. The ginger chicken was refreshing when I had it. You pretty much can't go wrong here with anything on the menu. Also, make sure you get the naan. It is delicious! I would definitely recommend Saffron to anyone looking to try something new and different on a night out in Ambler!

Yeah...no. Not a fan of this place. If you want good Indian food I wouldn't come here. I drove from Lansdale to pick it up and expected awesomeness because of the reviews but was really disappointed because they food didn't taste as good as I've had-- I might be a biased opinion cause I've had a lot of Indian food all around the world.,, and ofcourse my mom makes the best Indian food... but I still think it could be better...

I would definitely recommend this Indian restaurant for those needing an Indian cuisine fix in the suburbs. I ate the chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer with both being solid choices at this restaurant. The tikka masala sauce was a little different than other Indian restaurants I've been to but certainly nothing offensive. They just seemed to have their own twist on recipe. The saag paneer and naan was wonderful and full of flavor. The prices are decent but still a little more expensive than city Indian restaurants. The place is small but there was no wait on a Friday night around 8:30 in the evening. Very friendly service and plenty of choices on the menu.

Saffron Indian Kitchen deserves the good reviews it has received since opening in the busy town of Ambler right outside northwest Philadelphia. It always seems to be busy. I'm sure being situated between the Act One Playhouse of Ambler and the Ambler Movie Theatre contributes to this, but so does the good food and excellent service. The food served here spans the entire length of the Indian sub-continent and I took advantage of that the last time I was here. Dhosas from the deep south of India are the perfect way to begin a meal here especially as they are served with a lentil broth and a coconut chutney. I would have preferred the accompaniments to be spicier than they were and like they are served up in Tamil Nadu in the south of India. For my main course, I went completely in the other direction - up to the Punjab. They cooked a superb version of one of my favorite northern Indian dishes - Paneer Makhani. The cheese and seasonings were well blended and the hot sauce that they gave me provided the kick I was looking for. This dish is served as it is in Punjab in a copper kadai which adds to the visual presentation. Saffron Kitchen is perfect for those who want a tasty Indian meal in an attractive setting and where you can park nearby and maybe take in a show or movie afterwards!

Came in for lunch, service was courteous and speedy. Ordered the vegetable korma and chicken tikka masala with naan. The chicken tikka was too sweet for my taste. But the vegetable korma and naan were excellent. I wish they offered a buffet during lunch, it's a little pricey for a lunch dish ($11 to 13).

Had an amazing dinner here last night with my husband and kids. It was our second visit. This time we took advantage of the BYOB. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation. All the other tables were reserved and at 6:30 on a Friday night they were filled. We like to order family style and share the yumminess. We had the mango lassie, chicken biryani, tandoori chicken, boti kabob masala, saag paneer and garlic naan. Our experience proved that good food can inspire feelings of joy! My husband commented that the chef is a true artist. My 11 year old suggested that we should eat here weekly.

I was in London last week, which apparently has more Indian restaurants than Mumbai. Did I get to any? Sadly...no...there never seemed to be one nearby when we finally got around to dinner. So I came home with a hard-core craving for Indian. This hit the spot. It's cute inside and service was pleasant, but they did forget our naan (til we realized it, we were too full anyway). We started with samosas and onion bhajia...both were tasty. I had malai kofta and hubs got tikka masala. Good flavor, right amount of heat...and Indian rice just rocks. To think I grew up on Uncle Bens and could have had this stuff.

I had Vegetable Madras for lunch and it was well spiced, aromatic and cooked perfectly! The curry leaves and the coconut milk make it a great dish. I ate with Kulcha (extra order) which was well made.. The side of Daal and Rice (comes with the dish) made it very hearty lunch. If I were to offer advice, the only one I can think of is they could rotate their lunch options through the menu?

My first one having Indian food & it was very good, the customer service is horrible.. They weren't open the hours that they're supposed to be open for days straight and they would pick up the phone and say nothing, but other then that it's good

I am no Indian food expert but I really enjoyed the take out we got. The garlic naan was very good, and the price was pretty reasonable for the amount of food we received. I will definitely be ordering from there again.

BEST INDIAN FOOD IN THE AREA! The staff is phenomenal, really nice people who take the time to help you pick out what you want. I've gotten some great recommendations. Take out is always quick, and the food is good every time. BYOB so the bill is always reasonable.

Been here a few times for both eat in and take out. Great little byob in the heart of Ambler. I'm no expert on Indian food but everything I've had here has been delicious. Favorites include the chicken tikka masala, sag paneer, and any of the naan selections. Definitely worth stopping in, the service couldn't be friendlier.

I expected good things from Saffron but boy, was I disappointed. The chicken pieces in the chicken tikka masala were so dry. My palak paneer was all sauce. The only redeemable dish was the lamb korma which was tender and flavorful. Besides that, it's hard for me to believe this place is Zagat rated. Disclaimer: I visited this place almost a year ago, so it may have improved or declined considerably since then.

I've only ever had takeout, but the food is wonderful (especially the lamb vindaloo and ALL of the naans). Prices are high, but you're paying for quality. The restaurant seems like it's always creepily empty, so I assume they do most of their business with takeout (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Good Indian restaurant in Ambler. This BYOB has great value and was packed on the Monday evening when we were there. We ordered lamb korma, chicken biryani, garlic naan, and a couple of other things. Everything was great except for the biryani which was so so. Good convenience to the train station.

  • Pat K.

Great service, I have had way better Indian but I also have had worse. My chicken in the masala was very dry and lacked a kick. My wife's lamb masala, did not really taste like Indian food but rather it was like a beef stew. And it was a bit pricey for ok food. I'm tossed because I want to give it a 2 star but I feel that might be a bit too low of a rating. I'm willing to give another chance.

Saffron Indian Kitchen- Had been here for couple of times at Ambler near to septa station. Ambiance is nice, service is good, location is good, and importantly food is fine. Owners are telugu speaking and maintain the restaurant well, we tried out biryani, rotis, nans, veg curry and chicken curry they all were fine and spicy. We had told the waiter to make it extra spicy and they did it. However, i still feel they have to improve a lot on the flavors, and quality of food also rates are expensive when compared with other Indian restaurants. "Bit expensive okay Indian restaurant try it out once and decide for yourself"

Sorry to those folks who gave such raving reviews of this place, which is regrettably why I went there. The food is so less than mediocre. I was in the neighborhood on business. I tried Lamb Tikka Masala. I know that one won't immediately think of a suburb of Philly when it comes to Indian food, but this was really just too underwhelming. If you walked into an $8 lunch buffet indian restaurant in NJ, Tikka Masala would taste better than this. I grew up in India, so I think I know what it should taste like. I asked for some pickles and they charged me $2 for a spoonful of pickles. It was pretty good, but come on.

I am a big fan of Indian food and was very excited to try this restaurant. Sadly, I was very let down. Our server didn't have a good attitude and seemed like we were an inconvenience. And there was only one other table taken, so it's not like he was very busy at all. That's forgivable if the food is good but it was not. The food overall but very dry and chewy. Some of the rice was burnt. When we left, we stopped at a diner because we were still hungry, due to the food being almost inedible. My advice would be if you want some good curry to try Thai Pepper in Ardmore. Now THAT'S some delicious food and very good service.

They have good Indian food. Their garlic nam (Indian bread) and vegetable samosas as appetizers are quite good. Their Chicken Tikka Masala was also quite creamy and yummy. In terms of spiciness I asked for the highest they gave and it really wasn't that spicy. Good place to go for a date although it can get busy on Friday nights and Saturday.

Amazing Lunch Special here! The food was perfect! Coworker and I had the chicken tikka masala for lunch and sat outside in some beautiful weather.

I've been to quite a few Indian restaurants (Ekta in Fishtown and Tiffin in Fairmount are two nearby examples) and Saffron matches up to them, well, at least their chicken curry and naan does. Their prices are on par with the city as well, which means I would have liked to see them a bit lower, since their rent should be lower than city Indian restaurants'. It might also draw more folks out here. Regardless, they are definitely fair. I've eaten in and taken food home (haven't had it delivered yet) and I continue to be quite pleased with each experience, since most of the food in the restaurants around here seem to barely match up with what the city has to offer. My minus 1 star is due to the fact that I would prefer they not use non-recyclable plastic containers. It's harmful to the environment. I won't be eating there in the future until this changes, or I'll just have to eat in house when I have a craving.

I went to Saffron Indian Kitchen last week for dinner and was absolutely disappointed with the food. I ordered the chicken tikka masala which was all dark meat and gross and the chicken was not even grilled as the tikka should be. The paneer mutter was not bad but could be better. When we asked, they made the dal makhani for us even though it was not on the menu but it tasted nothing like dal makhani, very bland, and wasn't even the right combination of lentils but it was my fault to have asked. The price is not bad but i wasn't impressed, there are better Indian restaurants out there. I will not be going back!

The place is small but the dishes are delicious and reasonably price. They have a good lunch special and great seafood dishes. Last time I was there, I had the shrimp masala (I believe) soooo good. But that not on the lunch special. For the lunch special, I decided on the chicken masala dish, so good and it comes with a little side salad and what looked like crush beans in a sauce ( it tasted like black eye peas). The staff is very attentive and you can tell they want you to have a great experience.

Having this place recommended by a fellow Indian and seeing a majority of the positive reviews, I was hoping for a 4+ star experience. Sadly, I was unimpressed given the hype and the price. We ordered some basics (samosa, gobi aloo, chili chicken type dish). The food looked like it would be flavorful. The guy at the front door even boasted about the quality, "food like no other", etc. My hopes and dreams were shattered after a few bites. Guess the search for some great-tasting Indian food continues.

Loved Saffron. Saffron is the first non-buffet Indian restaurant I've been to, so I'm not an expert, but everything was great. The menu is laid out clearly and they explain what is contained in each dish (their online menu also has photos of each dish if you are a newbie and want to do a bit of pre-planning). They didn't mention how spicy some of the items were which was a pleasant surprise for my husband when it came to his chicken dish. I had the Chana Punjabi and it was great -- not too spicy. I would say if you're sensitive to spice, ask before you order. We also had an order of vegetable samosas and onion bhajia. Both appetizers were delicious, hot, and quick to emerge from the kitchen. Naan was not included with the meal so we ordered the onion and garlic varieties of naan and enjoyed both (they were $2-3 per basket depending on the variety). The prices were very reasonable and the service was good. We arrived there around 6:15 as a walk-in and were met with a line out the door and close to an hour wait. We ended up making a reservation for later in the evening and going to a bar to have a pre-dinner drink. We were a little early arriving back at the restaurant for our reservation so we had to wait a bit, but we were seated by the time of our reservation. I would definitely recommend a reservation in advance if possible -- it's not a huge place and while the service is prompt, patrons seemed to linger over wine and their food.

Called for take out on a Friday evening. I ordered Lamb Biryani, Samosas, and Lamb VIndaloo. Every other time I've had take out or dined in, the food was great - BUT - this time is was really bad. The biryani was mushi white rice with a small amount of spice and a few pieces of lamb. The vindaloo was tomato sauce with a small amount of seasoning and even the samosas were not very good. I don't know what happened in the last month but something is really off. I can't say I would go back anytime soon.

  • Sam H.

My wife and I had dinner here last night. As the reviews show, this place is very good. I ordered the lamb vindaloo and my wife had the boti kabab marsala. We also ordered a side of garlic naan. Both entrees were perfectly spiced and prepared. The garlic naan and basmati rice, along with our entree was a great combination. My wife, who is not a huge Indian food fan, really enjoyed her marsala. The combination of the tomato base with cream and butter was delicious. My vindaloo had the right amount of vinegar and had a good spicy kick. Both our lambs shredded easily as we ate. The place is small and we were lucky to get in without a reservation. If you like Indian food, you will like this place.

Thanks to other Yelper's reviews, decided to eat here for dinner this past Saturday night. I am definitely a fan! I thought the food was much better than some of the other Indian restaurants around the immediate area. We decided to get two appetizers, a Samosa and Dosa, both of which were really good; but we liked the Dosa better. It came with it's own dipping sauce that was actually more like soup - bonus! For entrees, we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, which is always a crowd pleaser, and Tandoori Chicken, which was also really good. I would definitely recommend going here, and I will be back!

I've never had a bad meal from here. In fact, before this restaurant I never really was wowed by Indian food...now I love it! The restaurant is really small but quaint. We usually do take out. The samosas are wonderful and we like to get the spinach and cheese nan. For dinner my favorite is the mutter paneer.

Food is ok but service and ambience are lacking. This was our first visit to Saffron. I made a reservation and much to my surprise the couple who walked in with us (no reservation) were given a very nice table and we were seated at a tiny table right in front of the kitchen door next to a party of screamers. The employee who seated me muttered something about this being all that they had left. Clearly it is a big mistake to make a reservation at this place. I lost count after the staff smacked in my shoulder 47 times... not an enjoyable dining experience. The food was ok. I do not recommend the tomato soup. The malai kofta was a little bland; the dumplings themselves were quite nice but the sauce was disappointing. Tandoori chicken was a bit dry but the portion is substantial. Breads were fine. Really the situation in the dining room was so distracting that it was difficult to enjoy the food. The tables are so close together that I could easily have eaten off the woman's plate at the table beside us without her noticing. Servers are sullen and unpleasant. One was talking to himself angrily the entire night. it was a little bit alarming. Just an angry and unpleasant vibe in general that does not encourage a return visit. The front of the house staff could not possibly be more indifferent and dismissive. I can't see any reason to return.

I've been looking for a fine indian cuisine after I graduated from my college town that only had 1 decent one in town. My first visit was about 2 weeks ago, and I really loved this place. Freshly cooked, friendly waitstaff, nice and clean atmosphere. My friend is really afraid of trying new foods, especially ethnic cuisines, but she literally gobbled everything up. Try their Chicken Tikka Masala (ask for it with dark meat, it's called something else...don't remember) , aloo naan or the garlic naan, chicken tandoori, We will definitely be going back.

Solid service and food. We got the typical fare: samosas, gabi aloo, tandoori chicken, garlic nan, etc. it was all well cooked and excellent. I was hoping for a little more heat though. We'll be back to find it I suspect.

Food was average. Friendly waitstaff, good customer service. I had the Samosas, chicken biryani (medium spice) and the chicken korma. I really did enjoy the korma, but was not really pleased with my samosas. The tasted like they were previously frozen then deep fried again. Can't say I'd rush back any time soon.

I've been to Saffron three or four times and it is a solid option for Indian food in the Ambler area. The staff is attentive and polite, which is pretty easy considering there are maybe fifteen tables in the whole restaurant. I love the intimate setting, although occasionally the loud music they play becomes slightly disturbing. They are quick to refill your water or bring you more rice whenever you need it. Their lachha paratha is some of the best I've ever had, and their food on the whole is decent. I usually get the malai kofta, which is ridiculously good. The other day I tried the dal, and I was disappointed to find it quite watery, almost like soup. It sure was tasty, but difficult to spoon over rice and nigh impossible to dip naan into. They also need to work on the consistency of their spice. Sometimes things are pretty spicy, other times there is nary a hint of Scovilles anywhere to be found. If I didn't want any flavor, I would go to a damn Applebee's. They don't ask you how spicy you want something, so you have to either accept what you get, or attempt to accurately communicate your desired level of hotness. Warning 1: Like many Indian restaurants, the descriptions of their dishes are vague, so if you have food allergies, you will want to inquire before you order. Warning 2: If you want to go on a weekend night, make a reservation. They get very busy.

I have placed Saffron Indian Kitchen on the pedestal with Amans Indian Cuisine as the Best Indian Restaurants in and around 19002. Yay! Funny, though, how I am not comparing dishes, because I didn't have my usual chicken biryani at Saffron. Actually, I had the Murg Vindaloo. Ahhh what?!?! How did I end up having a spicy Indian dish?! Is this even ME?! Oh, it was a wonderful decision indeed. With some garlic naan to accompany the dish, I was in a heaven with all of the Murg Vindaloo I could eat! The spicy nature of the dish did not hinder my enjoyment, but rather elevated it to the level that made it memorable and got me thinking, "Ok, WHY have I been so scared of spicy Indian food this whole time?" Ok, I will tell you why - I am not usually a congested mess. I had a stuffy nose at the time, and needed to relieve it of its mucosal suffering. My theory - spicy food with make me want to blow my nose more. Please don't quote me, I have not scientifically proven this (i.e., I haven't found a molecular mechanism for this lol), but having the Murg Vindaloo made me feel BETTER :-) Haha, don't forget, though, that the food was tasty since I DID have functional taste buds at the time ;-). So, Saffron, you are my homeopathic remedy. And you serve delicious food! Thank you!

Looks like it'd be a hole in the wall, but actually was very clean and had a great ambiance. Service was friendly, food was great, and it came out so quickly! I believe I had the Chicken masala. My friends and I went on Labor Day, immediately after they opened. By 6pm, the place was getting pretty crowded. I'm not sure if that was because it was a holiday or if that is how it normally is. However, I would recommend getting there early or making reservations ahead of time.

Saffron is my current favorite restaurant. It is a casual place (I would call it cozy) where the staff make you feel at home. I've been there several times now and have sampled most of the chicken dishes. I've never had anything I didn't love. The last couple times I went with the monthly specials; I just had mint lemon chicken - delicious! For appetizer I suggest the chicken kaathi rolls - spicy tender chicken in a wrap, served with two dipping sauces. Every time we have this, we wish it was an entree! They have a good selection of desserts and tea to finish off your meal. The rice pudding is my favorite. Service is very attentive without being smothering; you will never have to ask for water. They are very friendly folks which of course adds to the overall experience. I always leave the restaurant feeling good (and usually with some leftovers)!

We showed up with no resey's on the day after Christmas and they kindly made space for us! Both food and service was exceptional and the place was packed. Highly recommend when you need your Indian fix!!

It is usually very hard to find an Indian restaurant that has high quality if ingredients used in their cooking, but Saffron defines fresh. Although the restaurant is very jammed and cozy inside, there is an overwhelming feeling that it is a family run business, and I'm always happy to see small restaurants thrive. For my meal, I had the Lamb Vindaloo. A few times I have ordered this, the spices were so overwhelming it was almost inedible, however they do warn you it is very spicy every time you order it. Unlike other times, the lamb vindaloo was perfect. It provided the heat I was looking for, with many succulent flavors that come from their unique blend of spices that one desires from an Indian restaurant. Along with our meal we had chicken dosa (which was delicious), garlic naan, and samosas. I couldn't expect more from a small BYOB in Ambler. The way it lost a star in the rating is the inevitable sense of crowdedness that one feels due to the fact the restaurant is so small. But it's easy to look past the fact when the food you're eating is so good.

There is a sign in the window that says Best of Philly 2010. The place is clean, the servers are attentive and the food is top notch. Went here with my two indian coworkers and we tried all their favorites. I liked the food, but they liked the food two, which I feel like says something. When you ask them to make something spicy, they take you seriously. My coworkers got a kick out of me in pain. Rockin. BYOB is also a plus.

Where do you go on Saint Patrick's Day? To an Indian restaurant, no less! Well, that's what I did. What's even funnier is that my friend and I agreed to meet at Saffron, but didn't specify which one. She was heading to Ambler while I was heading to the one in Bala Cynwyd! Ah, yes... fun times. Some quick "Calculating routes" later, and a few trips up and down the street finding the restaurant (easy to miss the restaurant with the signage situation) I sat down to dinner at the Ambler Saffron Kitchen. My friend ordered the Saag Lamb (Lamb with spinach). Thinking about it makes my mouth water - it was delicious. My dish, on the other hand, was the lamb dish off their monthly special menu. I wasn't a fan of it. I will gladly get the saag lamb on my next visit. Even with a very busy crowd, service was good and pleasant.

The food is good, but it's pricey. The waitstaff and hosts are very friendly and attentive, especially on nights when they're not totally packed.

Really good food. Only had delivery and take out so far, but the spice customization was well done and everything was very good. Just a touch pricey.

The best Indian food I've had in the States so far. Every bite was deliciously lip-smackin' good! The servers were attentive and warm too, and we loved that this was a BYOB place.

It's all been said before so I'll keep it short. Love it! Great food, great service, nice decor, BYOB, what's not to love? Only downside is dealing with limited parking, and make reservations or get there early. A gem in the burbs!

Absolutely average Indian food. Nothing special, nothing that made me want to punch a wall in disgust or insist upon eating my last meal before execution here. The service was kind of ehhh as well. I suppose if there were no other Indian restaurants in the area, Saffron would have to do, and you could certainly do worse. But Everest Grill is just up the road and is FAR superior in every way.

This is the best indian food in montgomery county. Their peshwari naan is to die for. Prices are fairly reasonable compared to much lesser quality indian restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Had dinner here the other night. Everything was really good and fresh. Wait staff was great. Overall a really good dinner. I will definitely come back to Saffron.

We were in New Hope for a weekend trip and arrived late to the town, so we wanted to find a place that delivered. Unfortunately it was on a Sunday so delivery was not available, but I went to pick up the food instead. The restaurant was small but very clean, newly decorated and had a great intimate feel. We ordered two entrees and there was so much food we couldn't finish! The garlic naan was warm and soft, and the chicken tikka masala very delicious. It's not the best Indian food I've ever had, but it definitely exceeded my expectations for a small town Indian restaurant! The owner was very friendly and had the food ready in 10 minutes (not sure how he did it that quickly!).

I would say it's OK Indian food. The place looks real nice although a little small but that's OK. The service was OK. We ordered the butter chicken and it was OK also. There are better Indian restaurants out there like Thulasi

Went here without any prior recommendation - overall great dinner. Ordered the special naan as appetizer and special lamb and shrimp masala for entrees. All had excellent flavors an good size portions. That, rice and another naan was more than enough for 2. Prices are reasonable and service was great. Will definitely be back! Giving 4 stars bc decor/atmosphere could use some work.

Great little byob in Ambler. Short on space but good service and good food. It's certainly not a place you'd take a date or a customer. But it's a cute little place to have some yummy Indian food. We are an Indian couple...and usually prefer not going to an Indian place. But both the things we had here (chicken tikka masala and goat biryani) were excellent. Will be back sometime.

So 5pm-ish rolls around, and you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach. You think, 'I have so many things to get done tonight. How will I get them done?' But then your mouth starts randomly watering, and you're furiously scrolling through yelp trying to figure out what it is that your body needs. You realize it's the organic spiciness of Indian food, and there are only 2-3 places that can satisfy it. And then you forget everything you were going to do for the evening, and you treat yourself to a nice dinner at Saffron. Montgomery County is blessed with several delicious Indian restaurants, Saffron being one of the best. I've had several different dishes and several different types of naan, and all of them have been amazing. The only thing lacking is the dosa, but it's not a South Indian restaurant, so it's permissible, according to my Indian friends. Maybe Saffron would lose a star for deceiving me on the dosa, and making me plan a dosa night around dosa that was not, in fact, spectacular. Except for one thing: the service. The servers at Saffron will go to the moon and back for your comfort at dinner. Yes, YOURS. Everyone's! One time I had ordered something that said it was spicy on the menu. And when I ordered it the waiter said, "that's really spicy". And, lo and behold, it was. And I couldn't eat it. So they gave me a different not-as-spicy dish for FREE. Because I ordered wrong! I've also called ahead for myself so that I can sit and eat a quick dinner before heading to choir practice, since my church happens to be right next to one of the best Indian restaurants in the county. Okay, just do yourself a favor and go there. I've said my piece.

The food was just...good. I ordered the Tandori Shrimp Masala and my cousin (practically sister) ordered the Goan Shrimp Curry. Both were brought out in little gray bowl-ish looking dishes. Then they gave us a larger one with the Saffron Basmati Rice. Alongside the Spinach and Cheese Naan Bread. Now I was under the impression that we would be served an actual "entree". It was not labeled "Tapas" Style. Also I could definitely make a better version of it - the shrimp were slightly over done because they were so curled up. Also where is the mango chutney? That was the aspect I was most excited about and we didn't get any. As for the service: awkward. When we first walked in (with a reservation), he just motioned for us to seat ourselves with "Is that okay?" We agreed and sat at a two person table. About three minutes later he comes over and tells us to move to another table, which was for seated for four people. Then added "Is that okay?" We were like uh...sure." I mean it was fine, but like no one was there, and why would you move us to a table meant for more people? Weird. In the begging of the meal my cousin said "This is a BYOB right". He responded, "Yes, would you like me to open that bottle for you?" She said sure and he replied "Do you have a bottle opener?" She said, "No, I don't, uhhh...". He says "This is a BYOB and you have to bring your own opener." She goes "Oh okay, well I don't have one so we'll just have some..." He says "I'm just kidding, I've been taking acting lessons so I was practicing." Ummm... for real dude? Really? A waiter should never be a bother/ interruption, and this guy was for sure. When he was around it was always "Can I take these plates? Can I move this plates? Can I...? Can I...? Are you...? Are you...? Like OMG just be quiet and if we need you we will call you over. Thank God the food was good because otherwise the restaurant would off gotten only 1 star. I'm thinking that if I am in the mood for this food another time and I don't want to cook it myself MAYBE I will ORDER OUT from here. Also being with someone awesome, made the night amusing!

Saffron is a great little restaurant in Ambler that offers carefully prepared food with layers of flavors. Last night was my second time and I was pleasingly reminded of the vast amount of spices and seasonings that go in to Indian cuisine. I will be the first one to admit that I have no clue on their authenticness to India, but who cares when you leave satisfied and happy? My entree was shrimp with a curry-cream cheese sauce and my husband ordered lamb. Both were served over the traditional basmati rice. We shared onion naan and plain dosa as appetizers. Both were served with various "relishes". I was not as much of a fan of the naan and dosa this time around (could have been because of the type of sauces that we ordered), but my entree more than made up for it! I think with the vast amount of textures and flavors that Indian food has to offer, it is a bit of trial and error when it comes to finding your favorites. We finished with a sampling of home-made pistachio and mango ice cream. My favorite was the pistachio. Very delicious. The restaurant is BYOB, which is perfect in my opinion, and the prices are very reasonable. Although we have never ordered take out from Saffron, I think it would be the perfect place to do so. The food is offered in a way that is both great for sharing and great for enjoying solo. The entrees could also be reheated without fully destroying the dish. My only recommendations would be to better keep up on the appearance of the space. The bathroom was showing it's frequent use and the storage closet was open displaying dirty mops and the brooms. In the dining room I noticed that the walls were scuffed in several places. May seem like minor details, but minor details add up! Overall- good food, good prices, friendly staff! Definitely would return!

Let me start by saying, I have held a few jobs where I worked around Indian food. I wasn't exactly treated the best by these people, the circumstances that I got "layed off" under were a bit questionable. Regardless of my less than savory experience, you won't find Indian cuisine like this this ANYWHERE in this area. Start with the Onion Bhajis... or maybe the South Indian style potato roll up (Dosa). The main chef is a genius with his appetizer menu. Everyone loves a good vegetable Samosa as well, don't do yourself the injustice of never trying one. I have been a Vegan for a while, this spot offers a couple of dishes for us (try the Okra dish). For the meat/cheese lovers, before I became Vegan, I worked with this guy at his previous restaurant, and he is a genius with rice dishes. He also seems to know what he is doing with the like of Malai Kofta and anything involving Paneer! The hallmark of this place... they offer dessert! That's a huge selling point for anyone. The wait staff is awesome, though you can't see it, I can promise the kitchen is impeccable, the atmosphere is beautiful, it's located in a nice location, and you can get in and out as fast or comfortably as you like. What more can be asked for? I'd give this place more than 5/5 stars if I could!

Delicious Indian food in a cozy, comfortable space with friendly and efficient service. We had three veggie entrees - the saag paneer, gobi aloo (cauliflower and potatoes) and chana punjabi (chickpeas and tomatoes) and thought all were very flavorful with and nicely spiced. Good basmati rice, and a yummy rice pudding with cardamom, almonds and raisins for dessert. BYOB makes this a budget-friendly dinner choice.

I have not eaten at Indian restaurants very often in my life, but if super tender meats, rich and savory sauces, and great service are typical, I've been missing out. My wife and I were taken to dinner at Saffron by my parents less than a week after they had dined there. So impressed they were with the food and service that they insisted on taking us. My experience easily met their accolades. We ordered two apps and four entrees and all six dishes were as tender as can be (chicken, lamb, shrimp), and were bursting with true flavor - not salt, not MSG, not garlic powder, but honest flavors of coconut, ginger, curry, tomatoes, carrots, spinach, peppers and the like. All flavors perceptible, and all balanced with a carefully complimentary sensation of spiciness. Top this palate adventure off with an average of $15 - $16 an entree, and you really can't go wrong. Will go back, and often.

Best Indian food in the area. Small dining room but still comfortable. Staff is very friendly and they love their regulars. Menu offers various meat dishes as well as vegetarian and a selection of naan. Pricing is extremely reasonable for the quality.

The best Indian food around. We have not had a bad dish yet. All of the standards such as chicken tikka masala, saag paneer and lamb vindaloo are excellent. My husband says the meat dishes are filled with meat unlike some other local places that add lots of filler vegetables. We often try the specials which have been delicious, Murg Chutneywala is a new favorite.. I love the veggie dishes like Navratan Korma. The naan is fantastic. Best of all the staff is very nice, and they provide good reserved service. This is a gem. It is BYO which makes it perfect.

Saffron is conveniently located on the main street (well..Butler pike) in Ambler and has good Indian food. Don't go there expecting a home cooked meal, it's your standard food with standard service. We got take out, the naan was much moister than other naan I've had (which was something that's a plus for me--I hate when it's too dry and crumbles!!) Big Plus: They lable the takeout containers to reflect the contents, so there's no confusion as to what's what. Overall: It's a good option for ambler, if you dont want to travel to North Wales or Blue Bell. I'll definitely order again because of the sheer convenience.

I was turned onto Saffron a few months ago and we have been Huge Fans of it ever since. We haven't had a less then excellent lamb dish yet. Only one chicken dish was just OK, the others were excellent. The Garlic Naan is perfect. The portions of food were generous and priced reasonably. I am also a fan of B.Y.O.B.'s. I prefer to pair my own wines to the selections available, so that is a huge plus for us. Overall the food is excellent, service is very good and prices are reasonable. A perfect find for an up and coming town like Ambler.

Oh man, this place was just what I needed. My husband had wanted to see The Iron Lady for a couple of months, and the Ambler Theatre was one of the few places still showing it. To make it more of a date night, I decided to make a reservation at Saffron before we headed to the movie. We had a bit of a rocky start - the place is right on the street, but the sign is up fairly high and it's easy to miss. If you're in a rush, make sure you're not walking so quickly that you pass it three times like we did! The atmosphere wasn't quite what I'd had in mind, but it was perfect for a married couple just wanting a change of scenery. I have to be honest, though, don't take a lady here for a first date. She'll enjoy the food, but she will not be impressed with the decor! We split one of the special appetizers, and it was excellent. Unfortunately, it's been long enough that I don't remember exactly what our entrees were, but my husband had something with lamb and I had a curry with shrimp. Both were delicious, and I even had some left over for lunch the next day. We had mango ice cream for dessert... mmmm! It's a BYOB, and even with a very nice tip, the total was much less than I'd budgeted for. I recommend giving this place a shot! Definitely make a reservation if you're going on a Friday, though.

We stumbled on this place on Christmas Day hoping to ge a bite to eat before an afternoon show at the Amber Theater. We were lucky. Very good breads, excellent home-made pickles, delicious veggie mains (eggplant, spinach and cheese), wonderful service. AND the chef who presides over two locations was present to accept our compliments.

I just ordered take out from this place which was awesome cause I work up the street. I never gave this place much thought but I'm so glad I decided to go here. This is the first time I've eaten Indian food and I will definitely have it again. I ordered the Chana punjabi which was spiced perfectly, a little heat but not overpowering. My lunch came with amazing lentil soup, mango chutney, basmati rice, and a small salad. I wish I had gotten some naan though after one of my coworkers was raving about it. I look forward to take out once again!

A small Indian restaurant in the center of Ambler with attentive service and very good food. The Saag lamb was excellent, filled with fresh lamb cubes. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality and we plan on a return trip. Recommended.

I've had a little of everything here and it's all good. Delicious buttery naan, mmm. The homemade pickles are interesting, the first time I've eaten a gooseberry. I have never been disappointed here, although I must say the food is better in the restaurant than for take out, but I think that's true of anywhere. I almost forgot to mention, it's a BYOB, which in my book is a huge plus!
