excellent food and service but the mixed drinks are getting quite high. Example, a whiskey on the rocks - $9.50 - At Valley Forge Casino - 9.00

Great place in the center of Ambler! The food is delicious and it has a great atmosphere. A great place to take your family, celebrate a special event or just go for a regular dinner. I have not been for happy hour or just to sit at the bar so I would recommend going for dinner.

My husband and I dined here a few weeks ago when we were really craving Italian. We got there about 40 minutes before they closed and they were nothing but nice to us. It's super cute inside! We were brought these DELICIOUS garlic rolls that I could not get enough of! I ordered a side house salad and the vodka gnocchi. The side salad was seriously the best I've ever had! Delicious red onions and Bleu cheese crumbles and an amazing house dressing! I loved it! The gnocchi was incredible as well! My husband ordered a side Caesar and the steak special that night which he loved! Everything seemed to be made from scratch and was just wonderful! We were the last people in the restaurant and no one made us feel rushed to get out. We had a great experience!!

This place and owner are seriously a joke !! !! The PRICES at this mediocre restaurant are 'OUT OF CONTROL' to say the least. Somewhere along the way the guy who stands over every move at this place thinks his restaurant is in Manhattan. This is Ambler a working class town with working class people. We own 2 Businesses in Ambler Boro and work closely with the residents and business owners, all seem to have the same opinion of this money pit !! We have been to the boot several times since they opened the doors and every single time I go, I always say the same thing when I leave, I'm never coming back . The only reason I return is we get gift cards for the place. If your into Extreme prices for Mediocre, Bland ,Overrated Food, with a side of attitude this is your place . . Somewhere along the way this place has forgotten The Ethics Of Small Business In A Small Town. Save Your Money !!!!

Great atmosphere and service, our food came out super fast! But pretty average food. I think I'm just used to all the Philly Italian byobs which have awesome food at awesome prices. Here the menu looked pretty over priced, but it may just be the area. My margherita chicken was pretty ok, and I liked that I could sub in all vegetables for the potatoes. The eggplant parm was much better, with one of the best red sauces I've tried. Overall we had a nice experience, but wish the food was a tad better. Also, I was reading all the reviews about the garlic knots, but they're just regular pack of 4 white rolls with some oil and garlic on top.

I was here for the first time this past week for a business lunch event, so I think this will be a pre-review since I didn't exactly experience the full restaurant dining experience. We had a party of close to 50 people and were seated at tables in the downstairs banquet hall. The upstairs looked like a really cool atmosphere with a community table in the bar area. One of my co-workers was raving about this type of setup; great way for people to meet new people kind of thing. While our interaction with the server staff was limited, they were very polite, smiles and welcoming to our party. We had a really awesome spread of food including sopresetta, salami, olives and caprese salad. A mixed salad which was also good but just a tad too much dressing. The main courses were baked ziti, eggplant parm, chicken marsala, meatballs and roasted veggies. All the food was really good and they were kind enough to allow us to take home any leftovers. You typically don't see that in a buffet event, or at least I haven't. Oh yea and those garlic knots, warm, fresh and so dangerous! It was a really pleasant experience and I would definitely consider coming back with my gf for a dinner. They did an excellent job at handling our very large party so I have confidence they can handle a party of two with ease.

Not even a place I would take my mother in law. The eggplant parmesan was pounded thin and was no thicker than skin. It had also obviously been frozen and then "heated" to order and came out soggy yet at same time rubbery. Also ordered the grouper special which was an absolute disgrace. The piece of fish was prepared well and seasoned well, however, the clump of pasta it was served atop had obviously been overcooked and then let sit in the strainer until the starches were able to bond together and form into a ball. The sauce also suffered from either lack of experience or complete apathy in the kitchen. Mentioned my dissatisfaction to the manager who persisted in arguing with me for 5 minutes that the problem was not the food but me. She advised me that the eggplant parmesan was cooked in the "traditional" method and that I didn't like hers because all other restaurants cook their's wrong. She did credit the meal on the check and offered to replace it but I don't want food from here even if it's free. Almost took the free meal and threw it away out of spite! My waitress left halfway through the meal with no explanation whatsoever which resulted in my discovery of the only positive thing I have to say about this restaurant is the bartender was a stand up guy. He was experimenting with his drinks for the new months menu and I was fortunate enough to be his sampler.

One of my favorite spots in Ambler. A little on the pricier side but great, authentic Italian food. I have been here several times and never had a problem. The only thing that bothers me is that they don't take reservations unless you have 5 or more people. I understand but it's just inconvenient sometimes. Their garlic knot bread is always fresh/hot and you get 4 huge rolls as soon as you sit down. I really like their bruschetta appetizer as well as their mussels and stuffed mushrooms. I have gotten their Chicken Piccata and Shrimp Scampi before, both great dishes. Not too heavy but just enough. I have also had their Vodka Rigatoni - a classic favorite. For dessert; I really like their riccota cake and cannolis. Honestly, I just really like the atmosphere here. It's in the perfect spot in Ambler where you can walk around to the different shops and bars in the area. Street parking and lots are available as well. All in all a great place for a good meal!

We were here for a surprise birthday party for my husband. We had the room downstairs and I can't say enough good things. The accommodations were great. We had 40 adults and 9 children and there was plenty of room. The food was delicious. The only drawback was there was no handicap access which was a problem for my mother in law. The price was reasonable and I would definitely recommend it for an event. It was great to work with the staff.

wide variety/quality of the apps we ordered from above par meatballs and salads to ihop quality eggplant parm with way to much cheap gooey chease vs the brusc with above average topping and crunchy/seasoned bread full bar ready to go and no great deals at $10 drinks to be expected in Ambler

Love From the Boot in Lafayette Hill, this place however was a huge disappointment! Expected to get the linguini and clams prepared the same way as I love in Lafayette Hill, however what I got was mostly spaghetti with oil, hardly any clams. My suggestion: don't waste your time or money on this place. Drive to Lafyette Hill and experience the best.

My girlfriend and I have been there 4-5 times now for both dinners and happy hours, and I can say that I officially dislike the food (outside of the complimentary garlic knots). The pasta dishes are bland, often with poor combinations of flavors leading to overly bitter (or garlic-tasting) entrees. I've had multiple dishes, each of which simply had something "off" about it in some way. That said, the restaurant earns a few stars because of the waitstaff, bartenders, beer/wine choices/value, and decor, all of which are great.

This place is very disappointing! The first time I came was in March. I ordered the penne pasta with broccoli rabe, roasted peppers and sausage -- delish!! I raved about it to my sister and we went yesterday for dinner. Needless to say I was so embarrassed I raved about it! The garlic knots are awesome but that's about it. I ordered the gnocchi and it was terrible! Huge mushy peices of mostly potato served in a bland marinara sauce with chicken. The chicken had a very strange taste, it tasted like it had been frozen Lord knows when and thawed. Some pieces were more well done than others, definitely not cooked at the time of order. Disgusting, I know. They were kind enough to replace it with chicken Alfredo, I had the same problem with the chicken but the pasta was SLIGHTLY better. The worst part is the chicken made me sick to my stomach that night! Hoped to have found a great Italian restaurant but this is just a waste of time and money. Pass!

I've only eaten here once so I may revise this later, but I hated the food. I figured I'd go with a sure thing my first time there so I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. There was nothing edible about the whole dish. The meatballs were mushy and red sauce was so acidic it hurt my tongue. That's never happened to me before outside of eating a ton of sour patch kids when I was young. The garlic knots were great though. My wife enjoyed her meal. It did not contain red sauce. This was about a year ago and I can't seem to make myself go back. If I do, no red sauce. Oh yeah. The service was fine.

I've been here a total of two times and it will always remain that way. Truthfully, you could find better Italian restaurants in the area. The first time I came here it was for happy hour. Pizza was decent. The second time I came here I got the gnocchi which is by far the worst I have gotten as far as presentation and taste. It was just a glob of mush. Will not be coming back.

Regardless of some of the somewhat lackluster reviews posted here, I have to say that we had an exceptional experience tonight (a Tuesday). We were greeted at the door, and promptly seated in the last booth available. A really nice warm garlic bread was delivered very quickly, while we pondered the menu. Kaitlin visited us just a few minutes later and started us off with a nice craft draft beer. There were some pretty interesting sounding specials, but we ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and Cheese Ravioli. Yes... I realize these are both on the stereotypical Italian / American side. I will spare you the self indulgent "I've been to Italia 4 times" crap... albeit true... We noted that there was only $3.00 difference between a "full sized" and "side" Cesar salad. While I must admit we didn't see the actual portion difference, We are both pretty robust eaters and splurged. I was so glad we both ordered the bigger, as it was really one of the better I can recall having. (an offering of fresh ground pepper would have been perfect) We also ordered a side of Sausage and a side of Meatballs... I like to sample a few things when checking out a place... just for perspective. The Chicken Parmesan was seriously one of the best I have had. The Cheese Ravioli was really good. The sausage was exceptional... The meatballs had a tad too much filler for my taste, but tasted really good anyway. The real star was the red sauce served with the Chicken, the accompanying spaghetti as well as both sides. This (non vegetarian) red sauce had the perfect balance of tartness, herbs, garlic, tomato with a subtle sweetness often associated with gently caramelizing or roasting the tomatoes and garlic. I know it sounds like I'm gushing... but seriously... read some of my other reviews... When it suck... I call it that way :-) We will be back here for sure.

Had drinks at the bar tonight. Service was great! Brought a friend in who hadn't been there before and wanted a "good beer" lol and Darin the bar tender had better knowledge than most and offered on of the draft choices. My guest loved it and I stuck with my Johnny Black on the rocks. Their pours are generous and their people know what they are doing keep it up!

This menu is completely unexciting and overpriced. However, everything I had when I was here for dinner on Tuesday was great, and the portions are huge. I ordered a side portion of the arugula salad, and it was amazing- lightly dressed with a balsamic dressing, with pine nuts and cheese and olives aplenty. Then I got the small portion of the bruschetta, which was also really good- fresh tomatoes, lots of cheese and garlic and olive oil... definitely large enough for two people to share by the way. The person I was with got the appetizer portion of the mussels, and it was a huge bowl of garlicky tastiness. We also both got desserts- my cannoli was massive, and filled with ricotta cream. It had a lot of cinnamon in it unfortunately- but I still ate it :) It was good, just not very traditional. Our total bill for two people with tip was $50. So, you can get an affordable meal here. Just be sure to order off the appetizer menu!!!!

Incredible homemade garlic rolls greet you shortly after sitting down. Two per person. The waitress was very prompt. The aroma from the building actually made us choose this spot over other choices. The decoration is very nice. Parking is available but metered. Back to the food. I had their signature Filet Mignon, which was pan seared to perfection. Plates came with pasta and potatoes that are tasty and well presented. The salad was very fresh and vibrant. My friend had rigatoni that was awesome with the right amount of gooey melted cheese. We were too full to try dessert but they looked yummy. Next time. Portions are generous and presentation well done. This one is a keeper.

First of all they do NOT take reservations. The food was so-so. Italians would never serve boxed pasta, which is what our dinner was. It not was homemade, nor were the desserts homemade. The only thing that was good, even better than good, was the pasta fagioli soup. You really need to try this soup! The service again was sub-par. Jan the waitress walked right by our table with a pitcher of water. She refilled the glasses of the table next to us though. I had to wait until I saw her again to get her attention to ask for water. She said, "I'll be right back with it." and somebody else showed up with it. How are we suppose to tip on that? Won't be returning anytime soon. But it was a nice view of Dettra's across the street, which is where we should have eaten.

Amazing food. Reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere. Had a horrible experience however this past weekend. My husband and I took our kids and met some friends and their kids there for an early dinner. Our server was really lacking. It takes a lot for me to complain, but she was rude and particularly snappy to the children. This is not a place that kids should not be taken to, so I'm offended. Kids were behaved and paying costumers with meals just like the adults would have. I love the Lafayette Hill location and have been going there for years WITH the kids. But after this Sunday, I really will hesitate in going back to Ambler.

This was our first visit to From the Boot and likely our last. Since it's an Italian restaurant, and I'm a celiac, I previewed the menu and it looked like there would be things for me to eat. Looked promising so when we arrived, I asked the hostess if there would be gluten free options. One of them looked at me in horror, the other said that every menu item is made to order, no problem. 45 minute wait. Ok. (BTW, couldn't make a reservation, only available for parties of 5 or more.) When we sat down, I told the waitress that I'm celiac and asked her a couple of questions about an appetizer. We got the Caprese, and it was yummy. When we ordered our dinners, I asked a few questions to ensure my meal would be gluten free. I ordered shrimp scampi and she said what they do is sub out the pasta Until she put the food down in front of me - my jaw dropped. Literally. She walked away and we had to wait to get her attention again. We kindly pointed out that there were 4 shrimp and less then a cup of broccoli ... all for $22.(I have a picture, will have to upload it.) She said that the meal was priced by how much 4 jumbo (smallest jumbo shrimp I've ever seen) cost. I told her I was going to go home hungry and she asked if we wanted to talk to a manager. From her response, it seemed as if it wasn't the first time she's had this issue. Manager comes over and echoes the same thing, but states 'well YOU subbed out the pasta' to which I said 'I HAD to, I'm a celiac, I can't eat it!' We asked if maybe we could have another shrimp or two and she said no; actually yes, you can pay for more shrimp. She then offered to take back my dish. Or she could comp it. Unwinnable situation - either my husband eats alone and then I do, or I go home hungry. I chose go home hungry. I ate, and it tasted good, but I think it was ridiculous. I understand that pasta is more filling, they bank on that I'm sure. I would've been happy with more veggie. I was going to ask for rice to begin with, but didn't see it anywhere on the menu. I doubt we'll ever go back there. I would suggest for the manager to be a bit more friendly, and for the restaurant to be a little more friendly to folks who have food issues. Just because I'm a celiac doesn't mean that I don't want to eat. I want to eat good food, but not go home hungry.

Pretty good neighborhood Italian spot, 3.5-4 stars. Most of the pastas are decent, and they're flexible with substitutions (I typically take the menu pasta and substitute the sauce and cut of pasta I'm in the mood for). Apps and salads are good. Outdoor seating is nice in the summer. Okay for take-out.

Get the mussels and the Antonia angel hair pasta. I found it a bit pricey but I'll go again when visiting Ambler.

Went to this From The Boot location last night for the first time, and I was skeptical at first. Let me say I was so pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service were. We sat at the bar on a rainy Monday night and were very attentively waited on. I started with the bruschetta what was heaven. Fresh, and seasoned perfectly, I can't wait to try it again. I also ordered what had been my favorite dish from the Lafyette Hill location, the chicken Scarpiella over penne and it won me back :) the pasta al dente, the chicken flavorful and tender and the sauce was delicious. I was happily stuffed after the meal and still made room for tiramisu. It was also delightful, light and creamy with no skimp on the liquor flavor. I can't wait to head back soon.

If there is one thing that is very annoying when it comes to service it is when your table assigned by the hostess is the only table in that section which has a different server than the other tables. I cannot totally blame the server for bad service as much as whoever laid out the table assignments for the evening. EVERY fucking time that I needed another drink, place an order, get the check, I had to ask the other servers or bus-person to retrieve our server. I wish our server would have picked up on this, but her attitude was snotty at best, even though I believe what work she did for us and when she got around to it, was actually efficient. Maybe try a smile or at least an acknowledgment of our situation would have made the night go smoother. Did I have to bring a megaphone with me? Mother of Dog!! Well made drinks and a beautiful RJ Rockers Patriot Pale Ale on tap. soothed the disappointments on the food and service. Italian sausage in my pasta was mediocre, I've had better Italian sausage from Giant. The sauteed spinach was nice. But the overall flavors of each pasta dish we had were lacking. Again I had to dress up the dish with hot crushed red pepper and grated cheese. I think I'll give this place a break for awhile, a long while.

I felt really discriminated, belittled and embarrassed in this restaurant. I will never take my family to this restaurant in Ambler. I am lucky I went there by myself to suffer the discrimination myself. On Mon 7th July 2014 at 7:30pm I happily walked into The Boot in Ambler. I sat myself at the counter. Since the bartender was not there a waitress came behind the counter to me ask what I wanted. I requested a taste of their Allagash white Lager. As she started to pour the Allagash white a man later came in, who was the bar tender, carrying a bucket of ice . He gave the waitress a hard look and she hurriedly put the glass down and left. He later continued to pour the beer. When he was done pouring,I asked the bartender for the beer menu. To which he gave it to me and said to me "you know that you are in an Italian restaurant and that when you are in an Italian restaurant you order wine not beer". To which I looked at him with disbelief but he was happy to help the two white women beside me. So I wonder what was wrong about me ordering beer or was their more than just the beer. For the two white ladies beside did not know the menu but he was very polite to them. I stood up and left and went to 34 east which was very welcoming and had a very polite bartender. I guess From the Boot only caters to certain class/ color of people so be warned prior to you going there. By the way the bartender's name is wade. Beware of this bartender.

This review is based on a party I went to that was held in the basement. The food was buffet style that included: bruschetta and caprese for apps chicken parmigiana, meatballs and penne pasta with a cream sauce With most buffets, it's hit or miss. This, fortunately, was a hit. The bread for the bruschetta was crunchy and seasoned just right. The caprese was solid too. The main entrees were all very good. The meatballs were moist, yes moist, even after sitting in the buffet container. My wife suggested that we visit for a "sit-down" dinner and I whole-heartedly agreed.

The best thing about this place, by far, is the bread. Warm, freshly baked garlic knots come straight to your table after you order, and they'll bring you more on request. Delicious. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was a high mark as well, and the roasted peppers were good too. The problem is, the rest of the food doesn't live up to the starters. I ordered gnocchi, and they were oddly huge and incredibly overcooked. My boyfriend also had gnocchi and his were not as mushy, which is odd since you're making 2 of the same dish for the same table, so how do they not come out cooked the same? I couldn't pick mine up at all with the tines of my fork, and if I slid my fork under, they'd still ooze in half. The sauce was just ok. My father had steak, which was decent, although they went overboard with the red wine sauce and it was a bit undercooked for his liking (I like steak medium rare, and he orders everything well-done, so I was happier with it than he was). The portions are huge at this place, which somewhat justifies the prices, but what's the point if my food isn't good enough to take home with me? Next time, I'll just get a couple of apps and fill up on the bread. Oh, and the service is definitely lacking. Like others, our waitress was very friendly and attentive for the first 20 minutes (drinks & apps ordered), after which she said she was going off-shift and that someone else would finish up for us. The replacement waitress never introduced herself, disappeared after taking our dinner orders, and seemed annoyed when we had someone else track her down 30 minutes later for refills on drinks. I wish I could have tipped just the first waitress.

Nice little place in Ambler. Good food, not too formal, but a nice spot for a date night with the wife without breaking the bank. (Also conveniently located next door to Ambler Theater if you're looking for dinner and a movie.) You can get a carafe of house wine if you're like me (not a connoisseur) and enjoy a nice meal in a quiet setting. And unlike many Italian restaurants, you don't have to be subjected to "That's Amore" or some similar Guido garbage on a loop like you're at Olive Garden or something. They also seem to have a downstairs dining room that people rent for private parties. Park in the municipal lot across the street. I believe it's free/not enforced evenings and weekends, but don't quote me on that. All I can say is I've never gotten a ticket parking there in the evening and not paying.

Seems to be going downhill. Service has never been great at this location (lots of attitude and little service) but it has gotten worse. We have had so many bad servers that I have to chalk it up to a management issue. Our server this Sunday was downright rude. Food was not warmed, lettuce was soaking wet, cappuccino tastes like it's made from a mix... I don't think we'll be returning to this location.

Ended up at "From the Boot" on a whim. The service was good, I ate outside while I was there. Maybe it was the dish I ordered, but I was just not impressed. Maybe I was there on an off night. Definitely willing to give it another try. It has nice ambience and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but the food was way overpriced for what it was.

Menu could use some updating for this cool location. Boring/dated Italian selections that every other restaurant does better or lower priced. Very noisy! Recent Friday Night visit had us seated at the table closest to the kitchen with a view of unisex bathroom where we watched diners exit dragging toilet paper behind them....hide these bathrooms! too close to the kitchen...I'd walk downstairs to use the facility just so its out of sight. Our waitress was being attentive until Entree time when she told us she was "going off duty" for the night (9pm ish) and another server would give us our check. My $10 cocktail, Muddy Water, served in a short glass, barely contained any alcohol (should have been Tequila and Kahlua, but no visible Kahlua, hence the "muddy") Husband just couldn't hold back and stopped on way out to tell the manager about the poor seat, early exiting server (mgr says her shift didn't "end" she's on until closing) and the fact that his meat dish lacked a sharp knife, only the standard "butter" knife, upon which the Mgr responded, "we don't have butter knives here".... Oh well, not worth the argument if your management is clueless in food/dining/etiquette. Unfortunately, I won't make this my destination for dining in Ambler any time soon

I've been going to From the Boot or The Boot twice a week for over a year. It's my pre-massage ritual. I prefer to sit at the bar for good company & excellent service by Wade & Dan. The food is classic So. Italian & the Bruschetta is amazing. If you like Italian fare it can't be beat. I've never had a bad meal there. I just revisited on 3/22/14 with my wife & the food as always was outstanding. But we tried the "Lava Cake" which may have been renamed since they changed it. The waitress warned us it had changed & she was right. The new "Lava Cake" or whatever it's now called was no comparison to the old. We took ours home & had the chocolate gelato at the restaurant. In our opinion having recently been in Italy was not very good or very chocolatey. The cake we ate at home had changed & had an artificial taste to it it with more gooey stuff than chocolate cake. The took something great & ruined it.

The food is amazing!! We were there for a large private party. The baked ziti and chicken fiorentino are delicious!!! Even the Caesar salad tasted extra good. Service was excellent. The private room downstairs has it's own bar, great for parties!

From the Boot's second location in Ambler seems to be popular so far. Every time I drive down Butler Pike there is usually a group of people out front. From the Boot occupies the location where Agave and Ralph's had been right in the center of Ambler. I have had eaten here several times and have always left with a full stomach and surprisingly not an empty wallet. The menu is compact but everything I have tried so far has surpassed my expectations. During my most recent visit I had a Caesar salad and the special which was a Veal Chop over gnocchi with a marinara sauce. It was priced at $30 and was well worth the price. The salad was good but it could have been a bit larger for my liking. If your looking for a local Italian place I highly recommend you give From the Boot a try.

My GF is on her running club's social committee and helps select the venue for their meetings and holiday events. She and I went to From the Boot for their club's holiday party this February and the food was good. They had fresh bruschetta and antipasto that was excellent, flavorful and well presented. The remaining food selections were your standard mass meal buffet fare, but no complaints. Later that month, when walking around Ambler, we saw a sign outside FTB that showed happy hour specials including half off pizzas and made a mental note of it. We dropped by one Friday night in February. The bar has seating capacity for 14 people, and all bar seats were full. The entire restaurant was empty, including the 20-seat long narrow table that runs alongside the bar. After sitting at the end of the table and ordering drinks and a pizza, we were approached by the hostess who said that the long empty table was not for happy hour, it was for dinner guests only. Not kidding...there was a completely empty restaurant, except for the 14 people at the bar seats. I asked where she would suggest we eat our pizza, and she told me to ask the bartender. The bartenders there are great and didn't care where we ate as long as we ordered drinks and tipped well. So, we did just that. Other happy hour patrons arrived later and followed suit, sitting at the communal table, ordering pizzas and drinks and having a good time. Ok...new week, new happy hour...or not. As soon as my GF and I got to FTB, it was the same situation...a completely empty restaurant with the exception of all 14 bar stools taken, so we sat at the end of the communal table. No sooner did we sit than the hostess sees us sit down and notifies the manager. Said manager approaches us to say that the happy hour special is only for the bar area and we were not allowed to sit at any other table. I asked where he would suggest we eat our pizza, and he had no suggestions. Well...he mentioned a drink ledge where you can rest a pint glass, but not a plate, or a pizza pan. When I saw him treat a senior citizen couple the same way, my GF and I left without ordering. Basically, FTB limits happy hour to the first 14 people. If you didn't get a bar stool, don't order food since there is no place to eat anything...except all the empty table space that they forbid you to use. Forget the fact that it is poor business sense to tell paying customers that they can't sit at an empty communal table during happy hour when there is an empty restaurant full of empty tables, it lacks common sense and it is rude. If you arrive at 4:30, you may have a chance at the food special, otherwise go elsewhere. Personally, if I went to FTB for dinner (which I have in the past) and I was seated elbow-to-elbow with strangers at a communal table, I'd leave. It is acceptable if it were seen as bar dining, but no way would it be ok for a dinner date. The night turned out well anyway. After leaving, we drove 1/4 mile to Forest and Main, a microbrewery in Ambler which won the best of philly brewpub award and enjoyed their happy hour and hospitality. While FTB food is decent, there are better, authentic Italian restaurants in a 3-mile radius of FTB. For example...Bocelli in Gwynedd Valley, Mina Cucina Rustica in Spring House, Il Giardino in Spring House, and Arpeggio in Spring House. Not only is the food better there, but you don't need to be concerned about arriving by 4:30 to get a happy hour seat since they are all BYO restaurants.

The food here is pretty decent for the area. Its my feeling that there arent really a lot of good Italian restaurants in that part of Montgomery County. Theres certainly no shortage of Italian places all serving the same exact thing, thats for sure. I mean if a hundred restatraunts are buying their calamari from the same distributor, then how different can it really be from place to place? A lot of these reviews say the same thing. That the food is overpriced. It is. But isn't that the case with ALL Italian restaurants? So I'm not gonna complain about the prices. I have no problem paying a buck or two more for food as long as doesn't taste like a can. As a vegetarian, I require some slight accomodation. All I ask is that the servers know whether the sauce is cooked in veal bones, and if so, can they whip me up a make-shift primavera with some FRESH veggies and pasta? The result at The Boot is always yes. They're friendly, accomodating, and usually dont lie or make assumptions just to rush me to order. I also like that the place isn't full of loud drunks doing barstool coaching for the flyers game like so many Ambler places do. They keep it family friendly, and I dont have to ask for parmasean 3 times like I'm the only person to ask for such an oddity in an Italian restaurant. I like it. You probably will too.

Love this place. We sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing; made me all sorts of unique drink creations. All were amazing!! I got the veggie pizza - DELISH. Fiance got the veal, also amazing. I will go back!!

This is a nice restaurant with decent food. It was a bit loud inside, but perfect for a group of friends. My husband and I went during Ambler restaurant week so that's why we might have felt the service wasn't that great. We felt rushed and the server forgot to bring out the pairing wine & bread we asked for.

I went back again 6.7.12 because I couldn't get enough Fettucini with mushrooms/shrimp/chicken. I ordered the food to-go and it was ready upon my arrival 25 minutes later. Today my friend, daughter, and I ate all the leftovers from this entree and the other from earlier this week. Muy delicioso!

I am not a fan of this place. I went to the Ambler location and ordered gnocchis for dinner (I order gnocchis at every Italian restaurant I go to.) These gnocchis were HUGE. I'm not sure why they would make something that is so doughy larger then it should be. The menu should at least indicate that they are extra large. They were not good. I sent them back (which is not something I would normally do) and got the rigatoni vodka, which was much better. I recommend you go to Bacco (in North Wales) instead of this place.

Stuffed mushrooms are amazing - just sop up the sauce with the free garlic rolls. Everything else is very good. Seating is comfortable, and the service is solid. Glad we have a FTB nearby. It gets four stars and its sister restaurant in Lafayette Hill gets five because we love BYOB, and this site has a liquor license (which means an extra $28 on the bill).

Had bad experience at the bar. Asked for an IPA and given a ten ounce white wine glass. Asked why beer in such a small glass. Bartender quoted some new law that beers over 7.5% alcohol cannot be served over 10 oz. Mind you, by their own admission, this law had not yet taken effect. Manager came over and said they are just following law, which was BS. I asked to see tag /info about beer and was told it would be brought right over. It was not. I googled the beer and it was 7% alcohol. I brought this to their attention and At this point they offered to pour a 12 oz. beer. No apology. Only a condescending "enjoy your free beer". While waiting I did drink about 5 oz of the first beer. I had already paid for the beer, so it was not free, only got a free 5 oz. since they took the first glass away before giving me the 12 oz. BTW, when googling laws in PA regarding 7.5% beer found nothing. This should have been handled immediately with bartender apologizing and serving the beer in an appropriate glass as soon as I inquired about the small glass.

This is in my favorite Italian restaurant. Service is always pretty good. The food is incredible. Being a good Italian cook I don't like eating Italian food out as I am often let down. Portion sides are good. Not too little and not too much. Love the meatballs!!!! I always get a side. The bread is great too. The reason for 4 stars is the environment. The layout needs improvement in the bar/restaurant area. 5 stars for the food!

Still delivering great meals! I returned with a date for dinner. They now have an excellent wine selection and continue to have great service and wonderful italian dishes. I got the lobster ravioli and it was fantastic! My date and I both enjoyed the warm fresh bread and devoured our dinners. I did like the fact that is was BYOB but the by-the-glass wine prices are reasonable enough so that it's not an issue.

My friends wanted treat me out to a birthday dinner in Ambler and we decided to try From the Boot as something new. We got drinks at the bar before we sat down for dinner. The bar area was congested, not much room to sit. The bartender was not friendly and a bit rude/condesending. I would not visit the bar again. The service at the table was okay, nothing too great or extrordinary. Food- we had the complementary bread (average), eggplant parmesean (excellent), linguine (average) and a desert which was average/unmemorable. Overall I would say this place is a solid 3. Also it is noteworthy to mention that there is no designated lot for parking, or valet service. You are at the mercy of the street to find a spot or park in the train station lot which is half a mile away. I spent over 45 minutes driving around the area just looking to find a place to park.

I enjoy the Lafayette Hill location over this one. I find the staff here not as friendly and into their customers like the others. The pizza is tastless at this place plus they only offer one size which is pan and the other 2 locations offer small, medium and larges. The rolls here are always burnt, parking is a flop, just go to Lafayette Hill location or Blue Bell, much more friendly people

Normally, I have to drive to the city to get a great meal, but From the Boot delivers exceptional Italian food. Started the meal off with some tasty complimentary garlic knots. Then savored a bowl of pasta fagioli. The pastas are fresh and cooked perfectly. Delicious ravioli. The one complaint is that our waitress was so bad it was humorous. After our order, which she repeated several times, she disappeared for awhile. As I asked for a glass of wine, she began to walk to another table. At the end of the meal, she said "you guys are finished, right?" No mention of dessert. We had to ask her to see the menu. But don't let one waitress overshadow what is a great restaurant.

Great food like the other two locations. This place has a bar so beware do not BYOB or you will be charged corking fees. Food is great, garlic knots are addicting and the atmosphere is the best out of their three locations. This location is the most spacious as well. Get there early for dinner.

Great place! Some of the best italian food I have ever had! Penne alla vodka is amazing, salads are fresh and crisp, calamri and brushetta are amazing as well! Had the tiramusu once as well. To die for! Wait staff is on top of their game and so is management. Eric, is a great general manager! Very friendly, dedicated and knows his stuff! I like the Ambler one because it has a bar and their bartenders are good! I do like to go to the BYOB store in Lafayette Hill as well though. Food is 5 stars, service is 5 stars, and the atmosphere is 5 stars. Great location in Ambler so after eating you can walk off all (well not all) but alot of the food you just ate! They give you alot and it great quality. Keep up the good work guys!

This is definitely one of the go to places for my husband and me. Although Ambler is our favorite location we go to Blue Bell and Lafayette Hills as well depending on where we are. We love the food, garlic bread and caesar salad to start then frequently we choose one of the specials. Fish and seafood are always great. My fav on menu is Angel Hair Margherita, mmm delish! And you can add grilled chicken for a bit more. My husband likes Seafood Monte Carlo from the menu. We are never disappointed when we leave there and even if there is a wait, it is worth it! My college aged kids and in-laws like it too so it works for everyone. Ambler has a full bar and Blue Bell is BYOB.

Bottom line first: Really good Italian food, good service, good times. The Philadelphia area is filled with good Italian restaurants. To stand out, the place has to be really good. From The Boot stands out. The pasta is cooked perfectly. This should not really be a selling point, but so many places over cook the pasta. The pasta here is perfect. The sauces are balanced and flavorful. They seem to favor cream sauces, which does not bother me but it may some. Overall, a good selection for dinner in Ambler.

This was my first time at this restaurant. I went with a friend for dinner and we were seated promptly, but only because we agreed to sit outside. The wait inside was about 40 minutes which is pretty long for a Wed. nite in the suburbs. One of my only frustrations is that they dont accept reservations for "small parties", which can be a little inconvenient at a place this crowded. While the service was slow, the food was wonderful. I had the sangria which was nice and light and fresh, a fried calamari appetizer and gnocchi in a vodka sauce. Gnocchi is a favorite of mine so I tend to try it as my gauge of a new Italian restaurant. It was absolutely wonderful, not at all dense or heavy, and the portion was satisfying without being overwhelming. I will definitely dine here again!

Went for lunch today with my mom. Reasonable prices and great food. The place is tastefully decorated. The only reason I gave them 4-stars was due to the really loud party that was seated in the middle of the dining room. Other than that, it was a good dining experience and ill be back.

Steve and I stopped into From the Boot for our date night. It was still early so the restaurant was completely empty except for one other couple. We were immediately seated at a booth and given garlic bread rolls. They look like cinnabons but with a lot of garlic. Yum! We had the fried Calamari as an appetizer. It was good but not the best I've had. I ordered the Rigatoni Chicken and Broccoli. It is served in a white wine and garlic sauce. VERY GOOD! I loved it. Steve had the Veal Parmigiana. It is served with a separate plate of linguine and sauce (or should I say "gravy" haha). This too was very good. There were only three options for dessert. None of them chocolate so I opted out. They had a Tiramisu, a Cheesecake and a Cannoli. Steve couldn't hold out on having a Cannoli. The staff was very nice and friendly. The walls are decorated with maps of Italy. Although the music wasn't bad, I really expected to hear Italian music. I haven't been to the other location so I can't compare the two but the Steve says this one is bigger and less crowded. It is BYOB for the time being until they get their license to sell liquor.

I'm gonna give this three stars with a chance to become four later. This was my first time here, and I hate giving crap reviews. You never know who's having a bad day. I went there for lunch with my family. I'd heard really good things, so I was excited to try it out. Well, we kinda stood in the doorway while our waitress told us to hold on a sec so she could clear out a booth. The bartender actually swept over and seated us, which the waitress kind of looked bummed about? Dunno why. I ordered the baked Raviolli and a salad. Our waitress acted really tired and frustrated, a vibe we all sort of picked up on. We wound up getting our food about about a half hour of downtime (the place was dead so that was weird...) The food was decent, but it sort of tasted like it may have been frozen prior to being on my plate. Fair enough. My grandmother commented on not having any bread there and how weird that was. She asked the waitress for some, and the waitress said.."You want more bread?" My grandmother mentioned we didn't actually have any. By the time we were almost finished eating, a really snarky-faced bus boy brought us some bread. So like..we had bread for dessert. I guess. Good bread, though. I was pretty disappointed, but I'm wanting to go there for dinner to give it another chance. Honestly, the vibe I got was the waitress had waaaay too much on her plate and no one was really helping her out with it ,and I'd hate to give someplace a negative review because someone was having a crap day. So we'll give this a "meh" with definite intentions to give it a second go.

I've eaten at From the Boot in Ambler (as well as Lafayette Hill and Blue Bell) quite a few times only because my friend is crazy about the place. Me? ...not so much. I'm not a fan of food that's overwhelmed by seasonings, such as the greasy, garlic reeking (otherwise tasteless) rolls that everyone raves about. They just don't appeal to me! I've ordered capellini and Bolognese sauce several times and it always arrives as an overly rich (excessive heavy cream) concoction that just doesn't taste right to me based on dozens of versions I've eaten elsewhere. Every appetizer, soup, salad, sandwich, entree that I've ordered has been 'just okay' but nothing I yearned to order again. The staff at FTB is consistently cordial and accommodating. Sadly, that's not enough for me.

My family and I picked From the Boot, the latest BYOB in Ambler, for my dad's big birthday party. It was a risky choice as none of us had tried out the restaurant yet and were solely relying on word of mouth. It could have turned into a disaster of epic proportions given that there were 16 of us, including four children and a vegan (me!). It was a wonderful dinner. We ordered several appetizers including bruschetta, calamari, and roasted peppers with cheese. I got an order of bruschetta without cheese added. I was told the calamari was a little too chewy. The bruschetta was good, with not too much garlic. The entree portions were so large that everyone had at least half of their order packed for leftovers. The kids loved their chicken fingers, fries, pasta, and drinks. Again - giant portions so even the kids had doggy bags! I can't say enough about our waitress. She was very attentive and helpful. She checked in on our table just enough - no so much that it was annoying; not so infrequently that we were without anything (bread, water, drinks) for more than a few minutes. I'll definitely go again. It was a great dinner and a great location for a party.

We love their other location in Germantown, but it's always such a long wait to get in. I tried this location out on a weeknight and there was no wait for tables. Refreshing! The place has undergone a nice makeover to a cozy Italian restaurant. The liquor license is in and the selection at the bar is good! Friendly bar staff served up some wine and amazing seafood pasta with their heavenly garlic knots. Seriously, they have enough garlic to keep you vampire-free for a month. Make sure your date eats them too! ;) Happy to have another great dining choice right by the movie theater. Sign me up for more trips into Ambler!

I went here for dinner with coworkers. The food was delicious. I had linguini with vodka sauce with scallops and crab meat. Awesome! We also had an assortment of appetizers which were also very good. I remember that I waited a while for a glass of wine since she forgot to bring it a few times. Overall, great meal.

There are times and places in ones culinary life that shouldn't be forgotten nor missed and this place definitely qualifies as one those experiences. Albeit the "atti-rude", as my sister calls it, is a drawback of the serving staff. They just do enough to get by, without forethought about when to come check on things or give updates or requests.....except at the end of the meal when the tip is on the line. To be fair, I've only eaten there about 5 times and once, we had a very good waitress all the way through. Now back to the most important part, the food!!; it is palatable sensory fulfillment, and i give them points for ambiance and the bar selection is very good. I only wish it were closer to my home, then again that could be dangerous to the budget!

Overpriced Olive Garden. The only saving grace was the service which was nice. I was not impressed with the food. I ordered a gnocchi dish was so watery and overdone, it had the consistency of mashed potatoes, except I couldn't taste any potato...just mush. Everything was just too overpriced for the quality you get.

This place is just what Ambler needed. I've always had a good meal here. Great garlic rolls and their pasta fagioli is one of the best I've ever had. Pastas and entrees are always hot and tasty. I have walked out of here on several Saturday nights because the wait is typicallyupwards of an hour and 15 minutes. We tend to go during the week to avoid the wait. The manager is super nice.

Stopped in with my wife on a Friday night. Seated outside right away as we requested which afforded good people watching. Waitress was extremely nice. I had Caesar salad (large portion, pretty tasty) then the scallop special which was excellent. Wife had appetizer of roasted red peppers with provolone and olives (very generous size -- fine for 2 people) and a pasta in vodka sauce which she enjoyed. Good food, beautiful night, pleasant service at a reasonable price-- just what we were looking for.

I stopped in From the Boot on a Thursday night in their new Ambler, PA location. I called and asked to reserve a table but they only take reservations for groups of 5 or more but they are still a BYOB for the time being. I spoke with the bartender (he gives out complimentary glasses of red or white for the time being) and he told me that they are just waiting on a phone call to start slinging liquor at the bar. The menu is the same menu that earned them high praises at their original Lafayette Hill location. Good food with excellent prices featuring something for everyone. Sandwiches, Pizza, Pasta, Stromboli, Seafood, Poultry, Veal, etc.

Our experience went downhill quickly. I could actually give this restaurant two stars due to its category from Yelp, as in "Meh, I've had better," but it wasn't *that* bad. Everything started out fine. We were seated at one of those long "communal" tables because the place was full (Friday at 8:45 PM). The waitress brought us our drinks pretty quickly and asked if we were ready to order. I wasn't, which was my mistake because it took her fairly long to re-appear. We never received the bread and had to ask for it. The food did not come out in a timely manner. I had the cheese tortellini. It was OK, not bad, not the best in my life, either. We wanted and asked for more bread. It never came. The Caesar salad was quite good, however. Now, we needed the check. The waitress never appeared for us to ask for the check. I went up and got her. She was chatting away with someone on the steps. She never came back to get the check with the credit card. The manager noticed this and he came and brought it to her. Again, she's chatting away and was not coming to take the check. It was nearing 10:00. Finally, she came to take the check. I am not in a hurry to go back. I am sure there's an Italian restaurant out there with better service.

Tried this place last night for the first time after having driven by it 100 times. I must say I was pleasently surprised. I ordered the veal parm and it was very tasty and came with a side of penne pasta. The sauce was good but not great. My wife had the chicken margharita and love it as well. The portions were way too big for 1 so expect to walk out with food if you eat here. I gave it 3 stars because the music while not very loud was not what I would expect to hear at an italian restaurant and our waitress while ok tended to disappear for long stretches of time. All in all though I would eat here again. Well ate here again for lunch. The service was extremely SLOW. It took 2 hours for 6 people to have salads and 1 course and the place was not very busy. I am reducing my rating to 2. I think the place needs to reexamine their service policy and aim to get peoples food out to them in a more timely manner.

This was my first time to From the Boot. We went on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. The place was full but not crowded. After giving our name we sat at the bar and had a drink. The drinks were good (when aren't the drinks good?). We were then seated at a booth on the far wall of the restaurant. We started with the calamari. Not the best I have ever had and a bit salty, but passable. We then had the bruschetta. Well...let me tell you...this was the best bruschetta I have ever had. It had plump juicy tomatoes and just the right amount of garlic, onion and basil. Very good For dinner I had the veal parm and my wife had the shell fish fra diavlo. Both dishes were very good. The veal was a little salty (maybe a theme), but was very good overall. I would reccomend this restaurant.

Wow. This restaurant is brilliant. For starters, the food was phenomenal and the service was pretty good. At first, they said there would be a ten to fifteen minute wait, yet, they seated us only two minutes later, to our surprise. Their garlic bread is to die for, despite the fact that it'll leave you with garlic breath for a day or two. It was a wonderful dinner for me. I ordered the rigatoni vodka, which was absolutely delicious and I daresay that they had the best vodka sauce that I've tasted in quite a long time. It was rich in flavor and the consistency was just right. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Wait: 5/5 Overall rating: 5/5

My wife and I went to From the Boot's Ambler location on a recent Saturday evening in July. We had no reservation and arrived around 7PM. We were quoted a 25 min wait time and we waited about 20 min. The restaurant is on the small side with a bar, communal table and about 15 to 20 tables. The restaurant design is appointed nicely except for the horrible polka dot curtains. The noise level is on the louder side but I didn't have to shout at all but it's not the place to have an intimate dinner on a Saturday night if that's what your looking for. They have a small wine list with none of the red wine bottle's being priced over $40. They have four beer's on tap plus a full service bar. As for the food which is why you should go there to begin with it's very good Italian at reasonable prices. All tables receive complimentary garlic knots. We started off with the bruschetta which it seems everyone else was having as well. It tasted great and I like how they serve it in a bowl with all of the tomato topping in the middle and the bread on the side so you can add as little or as much as you like. The entrees were a good size (chicken parm & chicken francase) and tasted very good. The only problem we had was the service it great. Our entrees both came with a side of pasta but we were never asked what kind of sauce or pasta that we would want so we received spaghetti with marinara. Also the food runners tried to deliver our food to two other tables before ours. And our waitress never came by to see if we wanted another drink during our meal. I would still definitely go back again though even with the less then stellar service. Also they look to have a good lunch menu as well.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
