I called Costa's a few days before my wedding for a lunch order for our wedding party. I spoke with the owner (Mr. Costa, and his first name escapes me, I'm so sorry!) and he was absolutely wonderful! He is so sweet and was very congratulatory about our upcoming wedding! I asked him if he wouldn't mind splitting up the sandwich tray that we ordered between my girls and my husband's guys -- he was so sweet to do that for us. The sandwiches were delicious! Wish I would have been able to try their milkshakes and actually see their restaurant! Love that we could support another local business on our big day. :)

Great food! Got a couple turkey, Italian, and Italian style veggie (great for vegetarians) hoagies, milk shakes, and some peppadews from the fridge. Service is wonderful and friendly. Will definitely be going back.

I remembered them having delicious milkshakes when I was a kid so on lunch break I stopped in for one for myself and a friend. Also got an egg salad sandwhich on toasted rye and fries. As I waited the owners started conversation, and had me try some sample cheese spreads (which were delicious!) They were super nice and friendly and the rest of the food was great and very fresh! Definitely going back to check out their Italian cheeses and meats!

There's no other place like this in the area, I originally came here for the cupcakes though by the end of the day the options were scarce. I ended up trying a cheese steak and cheese fries. The cheese steak was the smallest cheesesteak I've ever had! I would suggest getting the larger size, but the taste was on point. The cheese fries were okay, a little dried out. The woman working was very sweet!

Costa's has started to stock a wide variety of DI BRUNO BROS meat's and cheeses. They also provide gourmet cupcakes that look amazing. All the cupcakes are made by Gina and she has won the Gold Medal at the Atlantic City Specialty Cake Competition. The lunch specials are looking like a great value so after I have tried a few I will update this review. I'm glad to see that Costa's has really upgraded their products.

After my early review, I got a message from the grandson of the owner and I am very pleased. These people know how to manage a business very well.

I like this place, yummy sandwiches and nice people. They have home made cupcake that is great as a gift. They also offer authentic italian frozen food.

I am not from the area and found this gem on yelp. Growing up in the Northeast and residing in the south, I always try to find a "good" local deli whenever I come up. This place far exceeded all expectations! The owner gave me an overview of the menu, and it really felt like home. He recommended the Philly Steak; it was amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, savory bite to eat. Also, the owner gave everyone tips for great Fourth of July eats. Loved my experience!

We placed a large and somewhat complicated order and they fulfilled it perfectly within 40 minutes. Great selection of sandwiches and hoagies, but most importantly, a case full of freshly baked and artfully decorated cupcakes. We tried the Samoa and Chocolate Chip and both were delicious. Friendly service to boot. Looking forward to going back for their famous milkshake. Highly recommended!

Being a native New Yorker consulting in Ambler, I never thought I would find such an authentic Italian deli. The food is great, the people are welcoming and friendly and you simply cannot beat the price. Chicken cheese steak is out of this world. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to grab a quick, quality bite.

Very helpful and very old school. Sort of a cross of a deli meets convenience store at first impression, but don't let that put you off. When I shop there I feel as if I'm giving back to the community. The staff is friendly (if not colorful) and there is a great assortment of hard to find items such as ravioli, meats and cheeses you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Their hoagies are excellent, but watch out for the onions cause there's a liberal supply if you're not careful. Will certainly be back for more because I've heard that the milkshakes and cheese steaks are the best in Ambler.

The food is good, the milkshakes are great, and the family dynamic is outstanding! If you want a good cheese steak, go somewhere else. If you want to call a pick-up order and arrive 40 minutes later to discover that you still have to wait another 20 minutes, this is the place to go. Despite waiting an extra 20 minutes, you could be in for a real treat. The family dynamic between a father, mother and son matches the comedy of "Seinfeld". They will badger, swear and yell at each other while you wait patiently with 4 other customers. You will leave baffled and confused. Just make sure you get what you ordered!

I love this little place! They stock a lot of obscure vintage candies as well as a small selection of groceries. Great for when you forgot something for dinner but don't want to drive to the grocery store which can be a half hour round trip when living in Ambler. I've had both their roast pork sandwich and a chocolate malt shake which were excellent. OMG OMG OMG, they have a Guns and Roses Pinball Machine!!!!!! Love it! This is one mom and pop store worth saving, give these guys some business!

I loved Costa Deli. I took my then girlfriend their for her first cheesesteak. It's not as great as you'll find on South Street but you'll enjoy the little atmosphere. One evening we were their the family was arguing with eachother, I don't know to me it made the whole atmosphere that much cozier. I really miss this place.

Finally made it to this venerable Ambler institution and I was suitably impressed. I got the original hoagie, which is a generous sized hoagie on a good roll (no seeds). The meats and cheeses are good quality, and the piece de resistance were the roasted red peppers on top. Not cheap(7.75 for the hoagie with the peppers) but a worthy sandwich. Next time the milkshake is a must.

Costa's has been a staple the entire time I've lived in Ambler. Whether gulping down their legendary milkshakes or starting your morning out with a breakfast sandwich, the quality here has never changed. For shame, I'd not been to Costa's in about 10 years when my non Ambler-ite boyfriend mentioned we should try it. Oh lord yes. I got my old reliable. Cheesesteak with friend onions and ketchup, he got the "original", a delicious looking hoagie packed with capicola. The family is lovely, easy going, and quick to help. He showed us some of the new imported cheeses and meats they'd gotten from folks at the Italian Market in South Philly, and we wound up going home with a little bucket of Provolone and Chianti cheese that tasted amazing. They're now featuring cupcakes which was new to me, in all sorts of cool recipes. Those are getting pounced on when we go back. The food was delish, and we topped it off with a few black and white milk shakes, of course. An absolute gem and reminder of old Ambler while the new springs up around us. Thanks for many years of great service, Costa family! Keep up the good work!

Freakin' Delish I had never heard of Costa's despite growing up in the local(ish) area. I stumbled upon this joint because of a Groupon. I had the eggplant parm and the chicken cheesesteak. Yum-o. Both were delish but I have to say the chicken cheesesteak was fantastic. The bread was freshly made from a bakery, not the supermarket rolls that many places use. This was such a great find -- I can't wait to go back. A bit of a throwback sort of place -- counter with swivel bar stools and four aisles of various goods and sundries. The people were super friendly to boot. I shall return when I am in the mood for some fantastic fries and a hella good chicken cheesestak.

After quite a few visits, and trying things over and over again, I'm sad to say Costa's is not worth it. It has the neighborhood charm of an old malt shoppe, but the buck stops there. The deli products always look a day or two older than they should be. The sandwiches are just good enough, but there are better places in the area. The highlight is their selection of DiBruno brothers meats and cheeses. Unfortunately, they don't take the next step and use these meats for their sandwiches.

Great place to grab a hoagie, cheesesteak, or breakfast sandwich! People who work here are very friendly and orders come out quick. Reasonable prices and food is always fresh.

This deli has the best milkshakes. The food is really good and the prices are very reasonable. And they periodically run Groupon specials. I'm definitely due for a visit.

What can I say about Costa's? First of all, there is NO comparison -- these are the best cheesesteaks and Italian hoagies you will find in the Philadelphia area and suburbs. Anyone who disagrees has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Everything is fresh, homemade, and delicious! Try the tapioca rice pudding - it's amazing! David Costa always has a welcoming smile and suggestion if you aren't sure what to order, offering something you may not have tried yet. He is the grandson of the original owner, Rocco Costa who emigrated from Italy. There is a lot of family love in this little corner deli and a lot of Ambler spirit. The family knows 90% of their customers or more - every time I am there and a customer walks in, it's "Hi, How you doing? Nice to see you again." With this kind of spirit and dedication to customer service, Costa's deli is sure to be around for another 60 years. P.S. There are now homemade cupcakes sold that David' wife makes --- they are to die for!

Let's see...the staff at Costa's is so very friendly. I love that they always ask if you want a milkshake, even if you've ordered a meal that's already full of fat and calories. Of course when I get lunch from Costa's or any deli I'm not worrying too much about such things. The milkshakes are pretty good and good for a snack by themselves, rather than mixed with a cheesesteak and fries :) Speaking of fries, they have the best fries and their cheesesteaks are pretty good. They also have great roast pork sandwiches and eggplant parm sandwiches. I wouldn't recommend their hoagies, something about them is off.

This is a local family-owned and run deli with great breakfast omelet sandwiches and reliable deli standbys, like hoagies, clubs, and cheesesteaks. The chicken cheesesteak here is decent but I would go for the frittata omelet sandwich on a long roll here. In fact, they will make you any omelet sandwich that you can think of. If you are in the mood for spicy meat, the italian sausage and peppers omelet sandwich is a nice option, too. It's around $4-5 for a 2-egg sandwich on a long roll, which is very reasonably priced. Everything is made to order so there are no egg-like patties in sight, and service is very friendly. The atmosphere almost reminds me of a cross between an old-fashioned sandwich shoppe and a malt shop since they do have a nice variety of ice cream and shakes. I highly recommend grabbing a black and white malt shake. They also sell cupcakes too from Gina's. The White Russian is pretty different and original although I'm still deciding whether I like alcohol in my baked desserts. I would give it a try since it may just be taste preference, in my case. Overall, a great local deli/ice cream shoppe/bakery all in one.

Can't do it any more. Decent food but they mess up my order ever time. Last time. 3 out of four sandwiches were wrong. Pathetic. There are many other options around.

Great little Italian deli. Gotta have a classic italian, shooters on the side and if you have room for more...the gourmet cupcakes or a thick bryers milkshake.

In town for business and came across this deli on my way to a film festival. What a treat! Not only was to cheese steak and milk shake delicious but the owner was super nice! He even came back and talked with me a bit after ordering the food. Highly recommend it!

Great local deli! Sandwiches blow away WaWa, and why not support a small family run business at the same time. Can't wait to try a milkshake next time. Friendliest owner gave me a nice overview of the history and current offerings. Parking is in back and can be accessed off either Beth Pike or Butler. Sad it took me 13 years to stop in, but am sold.

I lived near Costa Deli for 25 years before finally trying it a few years back. I missed out on a lot. First and foremost, it is my #1 spot for an Italian hoagie. These are the hoagies of my youth, before "let's put a half pound of meat between a roll so it falls apart when you bite into it -- if you can bite into it (ala Pudges) -- became the gold standard. These aren't small sandwiches, they are just right and delicious. The meat is fresh, sliced in house and they do a healthy business selling steaks and hoagies. My first visit was because they were listed as a regional favorite for Cheesesteaks and their steaks are very good. Again, don't go expecting a roll overflowing with meat, but it's a healthy amount and they cook it in front of you. I will also put a plug in for their homemade macaroni salad which is a very light mayo/oil base and tastes like grandma made (because she probably did). The milkshakes, the 50's decor (original but well maintained) and the groceries are a nice mix. This is the corner store you've been looking for. Yes, the family is a mixed breed. They argue and can be surly with each other, but never with the customers. David is super friendly and chatty, the rest of them tend to be quiet with the customers but on every visit they ask me how my food is and if I need anything. Lastly: An excellent variety of sodas including Champ Cherry.

Stopped in for breakfast one morning. Bfast sandwich was excellent. Owner super friendly. So nice to deal with someone that cares about customer service rather than a drone behind the counter who gets paid no matter what.
