First time I have ever eaten here and it was great. Simple menu and the food was great. I recommend the Texas Dog and a side of cheese. Better yet, make it 2.

I've learned through research and experience that "Texas" hot dogs are more a style of hot dog and don't really have anything to do with the state. And while this Texas Hot Dogs location has a southwestern decor, it's not much more than a neighborhood hot dog stand offering a few of my favorite foods. I don't need the glitz and glamor of a gourmet hot dog. Give me some simple franks with chili, mustard and onions and I'm a happy girl. Along with some onion rings and locally made chocolate milk, that was all I needed here. Even though I could sit and watch them pull hot dogs off the grill and load 'em up with toppings all day. It's a beautiful and graceful dance. Texas Hot Dogs may not be the best hot dog around, but it's a great experience that will make you feel nostalgic. I'll be stopping by for a dog or two next time I'm in Altoona.

It's my first time in Altoona, and when I saw the great reviews, I knew I had to come. I mean who doesn't love a good hot dog? And I'm glad I came. Their Texas Dogs come standard with mildly spicy mustard, chili, and onions. Excellent and delicious! Some things shouldn't be messed with, and these hot dogs are among them. Also got the mild cheese balls and a Coke. An awesome, inexpensive Friday night. You should check this place out - it wasn't busy and the girls who work here provide stellar customer service!

I'm gonna assume I am not a chili dog/beef whatever fan because I didn't like the food here. It was greasy and a little bland. Just couldn't get the flavor out of anything. But again, I don't eat hot dogs, mac n cheese, or anything they serve. But I know plenty of people who do eat those things love the food here.

It's refreshing among the horrendous local restaurants.. and Texas Hot Dogs offers a solid dog. The chili lacks flavor but the hotdogs themselves have a lot of taste and a good snap. Get them with "everything". Next time, I'll try the Texan Mac n Cheese (whatever that is). make sure to bring cash: no credit cards accepted (although there's an ATM on site).

I have to write this review as it speaks to the family that has run this place for many years. I now live in Seattle and my daughter was on the east coast visiting family and I ask her to go to Texas Hot Dog as it was one of my favorites as a young man. I told her to take a small container and ask them for a sample of there "special sauce" She did and they gave her a pint of the sauce. A few days later they stopped in Seattle and gave me the container. I was stunned at the quantity and appreciative as I had not had that childhood flavor in many years. I want to thank you personally for being so generous to my daughter and for maintaining the product I love so much. Great stuff from a family that cares. Thank you. Fred Treese Hollidaysburg, Pa where I grew up.

I have absolutely no problem giving Texas Hot Dogs 5 stars. I am more than willing to stand on a rooftop and call these the best hot dogs in the world. This is something I NEED to have every time I go back to Altoona. First off the hot cheese balls, are to die for. For whatever reason, nowhere outside of PA tends to think that rolling cheese in ball and frying it is necessary, I do. Add a little pepper jack to it and my ears twitch. Now let's get to the hot dogs. If you don't get the chili on it then you may as well just go home and boil yourself a dog. To me the best part is when I take them home and my buns are soggy with that yummy sauce. My personal fave is chili, onions, and mustard. Oh yeah boys are lining up to kiss me after that. Everyone always says their mac & cheese is their go to item, but I will stick to my hot cheese balls. This joint has been around forever and there's a reason for that. It's places like Texas Hot Dogs that make me wonder why I've lived in Orlando for the past 11 years.

You shall go to Texas hot dogs and have several hot dogs with ketchup, mustard, and their special chili sauce and you shall ascend into hot dog heaven.

These dogs are very, very good! Their chili is excellent w/just the right amount of "kick". Get them the classic way: chili, mustard and onions. That's the way to go. (don't ruin them w/ketchup, eww!) I rank them up there w/Coney Island of Johnstown. Great dogs, trust me, I'm a hotdog vendor too!
