My FAVORITE diner in Pennsylvania. The chicken parmigiano is soooo good, though it is a diner so the sauce is mediocre and the noodles are sub par, (to be expected from a diner), the portions are huge, the salad bar is nice, they even have a variety of breads to choose from. Atmosphere is great, the decor is more modern with nice fish tanks and a clean retro feel with just a touch of stars and suns. Very inviting and always great service.

I am REALLY stuck up about food and honestly, this is my favorite place to eat around where I live. It's also a huge plus that it has a full bar with an excellent bartender. The food is so good. Everything I have ever ordered has been good. I like the French onion soup, the gyro, the Texas burger, and of course their strawberry cheesecake. Ron, the bartender is my favorite bartender in the Lehigh Valley. He is personable, friendly, funny and attentive. I love this place, I just wish they stayed open later!

Order the Jack Daniels glazed salmon. It was yummy, but not enough to fill you up. Unless you are a light eater. Also ordered crab cake melt. This is a definite must get. Really, really good!

Basic diner. Good selection. Good food. Average salad bar. Service was friendly. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. You know you're near Philly when you see hoagies on the menu. Fair selection of these. Big lunch and breakfast menu. If I ever had to come back to this area, which I hope I don't, I would come again.

Doors locked a 10:30 pm but open till 11? Couldn't even review the food because they've already got the doors locked before they close

The burger I ordered was good. Sat at the bar with friends and we were welcomed by a very cool bartender. He offered free chips. The bar is small but cozy. Would recommend.

Classic diner except they are not open 24/7. Food and service are both good. No WIFI knocks this place down a star

Enjoy their specialty omelette, The Local, almost every weekend. Service is impressive as well. I believe Beth normally serves me and she doesn't skip a beat. I've taken family to dinner here on a few occasions too, with no complaints. Do recommend.

Food was great, salad was fresh, everything on point. Except... my friend ordered medium steak and got raw steak. I'd recommend it though

Nothing like a loaded omelet and bloody mary on a Sunday morning! I love all the chrome accents and the giant fish tank. This place has some ambiance! I was waiting for Leisure Suit Larry to walk through the door. Of the few times I've been here, the waitresses are usually really friendly and attentive. If there's a wait, they usually get you a table pretty quickly. Just don't sit near the door in the winter - it's super drafty. Try the ultimate omelet - you'll have leftovers for the next day as well. :)

Liked it a lot. Cheeseburgers cooked exactly the way we ordered them. Good onion rings. Friendly staff. Meal came quick and hot.

Eggplant parm was very good. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the salad and soup bar was good and fresh. Clean place. Friendly staff

The actual size of the menu is huge but the selection is not. I was disappointed in the traditional breakfast choices. The one egg special did not include meat, which I found really strange. The quality of the food was your typical diner fare. It was good but nothing great. Not a place that I would tell my friends they have to try.

came to STARLIGHT DINER for breakfast with my 4 year old granddaughter, she started to crying, a rude manager ask me to bring her outside until she stop crying? If you have kids this a very KID UNFRIENDLY PLACE. Sucked, will never go back.

Delicious breakfast. Great service. Clean restaurant. I had an egg white omelette with feta cheese and spinach with turkey bacon. Large portions. Will definitely come back.

Go to place for dinner. Try the mini meals before 5pm. Best salad bar around and the broiled crab cakes are excellent.

Food is just basic diner food...service is horrible!!! Stick to breakfast if you come here. Not going to put the waitress's name on this but she is for sure messy up this review.

Pretty much the halfway point between home and my Harrisburg area clients, so I've eaten quite a few lunches and dinners here. The Starlite has enough chrome and heft to its menu to earn its chops as a diner, but the owners have their own ideas about creating a vibe. The setting is quasi-Carribean, and a bit bizarre, but inoffensive. The Starlight is worth a visit for the experience of meeting their waitresses. I've never seen more outgoing and friendly waitresses in a diner, and ironically, they're generally competent. Coming from the eastbound I-78 exit you'll need to make a U-turn on Rt. 100, but the Starlight Diner is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. Prices are higher than comparable local eateries, but not completely misaligned with higher-end Jersey diners. I haven't said anything about the food to this point. For the most part it is the same frozen product that most diners reheat, with a few unconvincing touches and plate garnishes. There probably aren't as many scratch cooked dinner entries as in most diners. What this translates to is a simple matter of avoiding cooking which might involve finesse, although sautees are done capably here. Their sandwiches, burgers and soups are quite eatable.

I have had three meals at the Starlite Diner in recent days. Two breakfasts and one dinner, giving me a fair cross section of the diners offering and the staff abilities. First: The diner is what you have come to expect of diners in central New Jersey: shine and chrome. Walking in you know you are in a Highway Diner. Finding this in Allentown PA was welcomed as it was sort of a little touch of home while away from home. Comfortable booths with Juke Boxes. Acres Naugahyde and Formica. The menu is also typical Highway Diner: Page after page of comfort food. I had the Bagel and Lox platter for breakfast both times to see if it would be consistent. It was. The bagel is typical of diners outside of New Jersey. A prepackaged bagel, not at all like a real bagel shop bagel but it was fine toasted. They serve it with a mass of lox, a single 2-ounce cup of cream cheese, slices of tomato, red onion, some olives and a few slices of cucumber. The vegetables were all fresh and crisp. The lox was tasty. A little more cream cheese would have been nice. At $10.95 it seemed a bit on the expensive side until I saw the amount of lox served. That made it worth the money. They also serve it with a side of home fries, something not typical in a North Jersey diner. The coffee was fresh and strong. For dinner I have the vegetable Panini. Not bad but not extraordinary by any means. The vegetables were fresh, not canned. That is a definite plus. The Panini was served nice and hot. I ordered the soup and salad bar with the meal asked them to omit the fries. Because you can substitute salad for fries they charged me only for the soup and not the full price for the soup and salad bar. A nice gesture I thought. The lentil soup at the salad bar was pretty good. Full of lentils and vegetables and served quite hot. The greens were fresh and crisp and the assorted salads looked good and the small amount of the pasta salad I had was tasty. The greens were tasty and there was a nice assortment. The service was attentive and friendly at all three meals but there is a general lack professionalism in the staff. As mentioned in a previous post, the conversations among the staff are conducted at volume and in full earshot to the guests. Both mornings I was there they were having computer problems and the topic was loudly discussed among the staff including sarcastic comments about the owners attempts to get the computers running again. Two of the servers were chatting about something at dinner as my food was being served to me and the waitress continued the conversation as she placed the food in front of me never once breaking of the conversation long enough to ask if I needed anything else or so much and an "enjoy your meal". This is a fairly good diner with fairly good if unremarkable food. A touch of professionalism added to the staff would help as long as the friendliness of the staff remains.

Terrible desserts. Came here late night to check out their dessert selection. Beware: cakes are weeks old and may cause indigestion. Won't be coming back!

That was absolutely horrible. The whole experience. I frequent diners, so I was happy to see a highly rated one near my hotel, but I can't understand where the ratings came from. It started when they sat us (at 3pm in the afternoon) at a booth with an out of order sign on the jukebox. I asked if we could sit at one with a working unit, and the hostess told us most of them didn't work. We were sat at one she 'thought' worked (nope). The floors were filthy, I mean actual trash on the floors. Server (Kelli) was incredibly rude. She acted as if our party of four was an inconvenience. She is in customer service right? Please note, she had one other table, also of four. She walked past us multiple times and almost intentionally wouldn't look at either table. We overheard the other table ask for a dessert menu, to which she told them "you will have to walk up and look yourself ". I approached her at the bar where she was talking with what appeared to be friends about her arm bruises to request a drink, she abruptly told me she would come to my table in a few minutes. Again, please keep in mind the place is virtually empty, so it wasn't as if I was intruding on a busy waitress. We opted for the salad bar as it seemed the safest option and we had a tight timeline and couldn't venture out looking for another dining option. Though we all got different selections, none of us could stomach much of it. I suggest avoiding this location at all costs. Horrible representation of a diner.

Big. Seems to have an active parking lot. It's been here for quite a while, and has a good following. Just not me. There is a group room, where I've attended meetings, in the past. Food is diner food. Over cooked. I think they're open till midnight. Left with my sweater infused with that greasy joint smell.

Food is very generic and price is fair. Nothing much to really say about The Starlite Diner & Lounge. It is your typical breakfast diner. The best way to put it is Starlite Diner is like any Chinese food take out, menu and price is always the same just different service and owners.

    (2)
  • Roger M.

The food is standard fare, more expensive than the Hometown diner just down the road, but they open at 530 which is nice.

Stopped in here last week for lunch. One of the best Greek salads I have ever had. Also had a cup of minestrone, which was excellent. My colleague had a chicken wrap and it too was very good. Mi Looking forward to my next trip to town so I can try other menu items. Of course, I'm not sure how to choose with the huge menu this diner offers.

I really can't say anything bad about this joint. The look and feel was cozy with a few CD Jukeboxes along some booths by the window. Our waitress was friendly and the owner even walked around to each table. My Wife tried the tried the Sicilian Panini with a Pepper Pesto, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Prosciutto on Grilled Chicken. She said the chicken was cooked perfectly and moist through and through. She also opted for the Chicken/Rice/Veggie Soup instead of fries and it was very hearty and filling in itself as it came in a bowl. I tried the New Yorker Panini with The best cut of Prim Rib I've ever had, not fatty, and cooked at a perfect medium with Melted Swiss and Onions and Horse Radish Dipping Sauce on the Side. I got the fries that were very crispy but tasted baked as opposed to fried, and some really good coleslaw and a pickle. In my opinion the food wasn't typical diner, nothing screamed greasy spoon and it was all cooked to perfection.

First, the ambiance: This diner has a lot of chrome, neon, and '50s-style booths. Very nice! Second, the food: The meals include the Soup & Salad Bar with the normal array of selections. My main meal was the "Broiled Stuffed Combo" ($17.95). The combo included crab stuffing inside a broiled Haddock, shrimp (2), and mushroom caps (2). The fish was tender & flaky--very good. Unfortunately, the crab stuffing overpowers the shrimp and the mushroom choices, and the stuffing is a little too breaded. Third, the drinks: The diner includes a small lounge, so a full bar service is available. I ordered a Guinness and it came in a "Tom Collins glass"--not a pint. Weird and somewhat emasculating, so I only ordered one. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer Irish beers in Imperial Pint glasses--not a glass that should have a tiny umbrella sitting at the top! Fourth, the service: My server, Nicole, was prompt, friendly, and very attentive. Well done Nicole! Last, I don't know about the myriad of food choices in Allentown, but the Starlite Diner is just off highway 78 (exit 49A) and it offers a unique dining experience. It's better than another dull meal at one of the chain restaurants!

I want to like this diner more than I do. I will say as a disclaimer that I haven't eaten there in a couple of months, mainly because my last experience there doesn't make it worth the drive. My friends and I used to go for late night after bar food runs. The food then was decent, but considering all of us (except our driver, of course) were tipsy, I'm not sure if it was the food or the beer talking. I've gone for breakfast twice. One time, my husband got this egg-hashbrown-sausage-cheese sort of scramble thing, which came out moderately warm. I got eggs benedict, which I felt was mediocre at best. The second time, I don't remember what my husband got. All I remember was being upset about my gyro. There was hardly any meat in it- it was mostly lettuce. There wasn't even a lot of sauce. Service here is usually fine, maybe a little slow for diner standards. We've found better diners closer to us, so we've pretty much abandoned Starlite as a viable option.

I came here while my fam was in Allentown. This was close to our hotel and the only place we wanted to go to at 2am. Our waitress was really nice and checked in on us several times, but then we noticed that she was training someone. We ordered the chicken gyro which came with fries, steak sandwich which came with chips, a reuben sandwich, and a burger. Our food came out pretty fast and everyone agreed that it was good. The bill came out to be $50 for 5 ppl including tip. I noticed the diner seems to have a Miami-ish ambience with pink and green neon lights and plants by the window. I also liked the glowing blue area above the lounge.

We've been to this diner twice. The first time was a few years ago while returning from Tennessee on Route 78 & looking for a place to eat late at night. That time we only got salad and sandwiches which were very good. We went back yesterday after spending the day in Pennsylvania but this time we tried their dinner menu. We both has the salmon saute with asparagas over linguini. It was excellent. The meal came with soup, a very good salad bar and a choice of three fresh breads. If you are in the area or driving along Rte 78 this diner is well worth a stop.

Starlite Diner is not your usual greasy spoon. A lot of attention went into making this a very attractive and comfortable place to dine. The food quality was also good. I am glad that I stopped in and I will return.

Stopped in here for lunch traveling through Allentown. I was just looking to avoid the standard BK & McD fare. The diner is huge. My wife got the salad bar and a burger which was plenty. The burger was above average in size. I got a lunch special of a crab melt on rye with some navy bean soup. Soup was very good and the sandwich much bigger and better than I expected. The waitress was quick with refills and overall a good meal. The best part was the price. Just $20. Good food. Good price.

I've been to this diner several times after work (late night snack) and I would say the prices are slightly more expensive than others. Yes, it is diner food but I'm not all that impressed with the quality of the food. The waitresses that have served me were all friendly and the food was served quickly.

You gotta eat at one diner when you're on the road (at the least), and after several hours of driving, we ended up at this one. This place reminds me of most diners. Like it wouldn't be strange if I saw a dude in a leisure suit, a family of 4, and some college kids binging on fries and shakes. Diners don't judge (usually). This diner however, had an unlimited salad and soup bar option! Famished, I did it up and got some salad and a monte cristo. The salad bar was actually super fresh. Everything looked great and I saw one of the workers continually filling everything up. The soup was just okay. They had some chicken noodle-ish concoction which I sampled. It tasted homemade but slightly old. My monte cristo, however, was below diner standard. The turkey and ham kind of made me gag when I opened up my sandwich.. and the waitress looked at me funny when I asked for some raspberry preserves/jam. That's how it's always served in other places, do people not do that in PA? She brought back strawberry jam and syrup. Um.. ok. I did eat a chunk of it, after taking out most of the ham and turkey (the contents could have easily made 2 1/2 sandwiches). The service was quick and the tables/trays/salad bar were clean. Would I stop by again? Sure. I'd probably partake in the salad bar or order breakfast foods. I'm pretty sure they'd be capable of handling pancakes.

I like this diner. But I'm a sucker for good soups. It was my first visit. I'll see how the next visit goes. I will stay away from the soup

    (5)
  • Bill T.

I stopped here for an early dinner. Plenty of staff and service was fast. The soup and salad bar were good, skip the bread. My broiled seafood was warm but not hot. The only part of it that seemed broiled was the crab cake that had been perfectly formed with a large ice cream scoop. They had a nice dessert case but I didn't try anything, "just the check".

No stars, but Valium for sale, per their website.

Once was a fan of this diner, not any longer. Their unlimited salad bar was stocked with food but no plates to put it the food on. We asked for the salad bar plates which then took at least 5 minutes to arrive. My wife ordered the tilapia which was very fishy tasting compared to previous visits there. When we asked for large containers to take our food home in we were met with resistance by the manager (owner?) who insisted upon giving us small containers. We were definitely left with the impression that Starlite is trending downward in service and food, which is a lethal combination for an eating establishment.

    (1)
  • Bret S.

Just ate lunch there. Our table had a buffalo chicken wrap, crab melt, cheese steak quesadilla. Buffalo chicken was a breaded chicken tender with hot sauce on it, nothing more than OK. The crab melt was very good and I thought the chesse quesadilla was good. We also had their crab soup with our lunch, that was very good.

  • Shawna S.

Horrible, horrible, horrible! I wish I could have given this a negative star rating! This is the WORST diner I have EVER eaten at! Blech! They make the WORST French Toast! None of my meal was edible. The french fries taste like the ones from the $1.00 bag at Wal-Mart, you know the ones - you get them when you are broke and they don't even taste like potatoes. What a disgrace to the diner name. The Clinton Station Diner down I-78E was MUCH better when I ate there a few nights ago. Avoid this place like the plague that it is.

  • Kelly B.

A diner off of Rt 100, we tend to eat here quite bit. The food is your average large diner food menu, but they do have amazing baked goods and a a decent salad bar. They have a full service bar, and a couple fish tanks to check out. A breakfast menu is offered all day. Lunchtime and dinner time, they tend to fill up quickly. The decor is your traditional shiny steel diner. They even have a mini jukebox at most of the booths, though I have never heard one on, while we dined. The prices are fairly reasonable. Good for small and large groups. Well worth a visit.

    (3)
  • Kelli R.

The Starlite Diner is a typical PA shiny diner with a huge menu and a rather large salad bar. The best draw for me is that it takes me about 3 minutes to get here from my house. I've been here for breakfast many times which is always good. I've also had lunch a few times - panini each time - and they were really good as well. I've never had dinner here. They also have a huge dessert case and the desserts look wonderful. I did break down and have a piece of brownie cheesecake awhile back which was sinful - really rich and delicious! Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is clean, servers are friendly. All in all, a nice diner. Not something you would see on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, but A-OK.

good service (Leah?) and food was good but way too much food when you are traveling. wish they had half orders, would definitely go back

  • Britt M.

Try to eat in the lounge as it has this surreal Love Boat vibe going on. Now, there is nothing nautical in there but you can't shake the 1970's cruise liner lounge feel. I've only eaten breakfast here but love the food and the chatty waitresses

    (4)
  • Madisan M.

Service wasn't great, and food was even worse. I had perogies as an appetizer, they were very bland and not quite cooked long enough. I also had a cheese quesadilla and I never knew a cheese quesadilla could be so flavorless, I didn't even eat half of it. Awful. Prices were also a bit high for a diner. Will not be returning.

    (1)
  • Shannon S.

We go here often because it's close. The atmosphere is a tacky retro (which we like), the service is usually fine and quick, and the food is OK (lots to choose from, inexpensive, huge portions). It's a local favorite for breakfast!

    (3)
  • Jill M.

Stopped in before work to grab breakfast with a friend. The waitress was rude and unfriendly. She told me I needed to get rid of my Starbucks coffee because outside food and drink was not allowed because they don't know if it's "safe"...biggest line of bs I've ever heard! She also told me there was a sign out front which stated that it was not allowed in and that the manager would come over and tell me I had to get rid of it..I walked up and looked for the sign, but couldn't seem to locate it. Not to mention that the table next to us had a bowl of food along with a cup from home for their child, and that rule didn't seem to apply to them. Food wasn't anything special either. No need to make a return trip here!

  • Melissa J.

Ok i was staying at the hotel across the street and figured it was late and whats better than diner food late at night! So i ordered a french onion soup which was not great but acceptable. Then I ordered the portabella mushroom sandwich. (thinking i was getting a portabella mushroom as a whole on this sandwich was wrong) I received a sloppy looking sandwich with chopped mushrooms. Despite visually (never judge a book by its cover) I bit in..... Crunch Crunch Crunch, Hmmm SO it seems they didn't wash the mushrooms throroughly because I was eating DIRT. Thats why I give them 1 star

Dependable food and service. We arrived to a full parking lot mid-morning on Labor Day and chose to sit at the counter rather than wait for a table. Apparently they were short of staff. Supervisors and busboys pitched in, and our wait to place our breakfast order wasn't bad. My Belgian waffle came quickly, and was cooked correctly. We'll return.

A top-notch diner! Salad bar is extremely fresh, which is rare at most restaurants nowadays. Portions are huge and very reasonably priced. I got the turkey meatloaf, which was well seasoned and griddled nicely. The roasted chicken and turkey entrees at our table both came with delicious stuffing, and the half rack of ribs was a huge portion. The menu is absolutely massive, and there are daily specials as well. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly, a plus at any restaurant. I would definitely come back, especially to try the desserts that looked so good but I didn't have any room left for this time!

This place made me really sad. Maybe I just didn't get the right things, but, on the two occasions I've been here, it just made me feel desolate and crumpled up inside. The first time around I got the french toast. It wasn't much more than huge slices of pullman loaf that were dry inside and faintly cinnamon-y and eggy. The sausage links were dry and mealy. I'm sure that packing peanuts had more moisture than the scrambled eggs did. My second visit invited a plate of chicken parm. The breading was burnt, chicken dry, and the sauce was bland but sweet. The cheese was kind of rubbery. The coffee was pretty good, though.

Here once for Father's day and it was a okay serviceable place. SOOOO crowded but Father's Day brunch would be a busy time. Nothing remarkable good or bad about this place.

Starlite was a great roadside stop on a long drive down the east coast. There's a gas station right across the road for fueling up. The diner is big and bright with lots of chrome accents. The menu is extensive. We opted for the pierogies as an appetizer, and they were very good: simple and tasty. They made a great Reuben with standard fries. My Greek salad was way above average. It had all the elements you should be able to expect, but don't often find. There were anchovies, stuffed grape leaves, big chunks of feta and all the rest of the more standard items. The portion was huge, and I ended up eating it again as a snack later. The pie and cake display looked extremely inviting, but we resisted temptation. Maybe next time!

Went for brunch with a friend on 12/26/2014. Our waitress was very nice. My friend got soup and salad from the salad bar and I got an omelette. Good food. Exactly what I expect from a good diner.

The food here is so good and fresh! We make it a point to stop here coming and going to florida. Everything on the salad bar is fresh! The soups, especially the lobster bisque, is so good. The drinks are generous. The atmosphere is so 50's and the place is spotless. Can't say enough about it , all good, 5 star! So if your in Allentown be sure to stop in, you won't be disappointed !

On my way though town and stopped by for a quick breakfast. Good food. Perfectly cooked. Hash brown potatoes were scrumptious. ..... chipped potatoes not shredded. Light tender with just enough crisp. They have by far the nicest dinner bathroom ever.

Ah Starlite Diner, really can't complain too much and I have to say I'm a little disappointed about other people's poor judgement and lack of stars. I personally have always considered this one of the best diners in the area. Mozzarella sticks, on point always YES PLEASE! Not that anything really has been bad, but my sister and I have made it a ritual to always order Mozzarella sticks when coming to the diner because they are perfect diner sticks and coming to the dinner for at least 2 of our 3 meals a day. We don't live around here anymore so don't judge us. It's totally allowed, and eerily they know and seat you in the exact same booth every time. Back in the day I was real into the wings here too, I know diner wings who would have thought it? Also you can't beat a diner with a sweet bar/lounge happening and swanky decor as fresh as that can't be messed with either. When I was younger I applied to be a bartender here- that's real- but they were not having it, looking back it was probably for the best but I will always remember that they turned me down for employment and little did they know my entire paycheck would have gone straight back to getting fat and eating breakfast after my shifts.

We've been here many times, never had a bad meal. Everything is good, but nothing is really spectacular. It's the type of food you would find at any diner. I world still recommend it if your in the area.

We stayed at the homewood suites which is only a stones throw away from the starlite diner which made things easy. This isn't your average diner they have a huge menu, alcohol and a good salad and soup bar with fresh bread. We ended up eating at the diner two night in a row due to the proximity to the hotel and the food was good. Don't get me wrong it's not 5 star but it's solid at a decent price.

Stopped in for breakfast after staying at the Holiday Inn. Just had a couple eggs, bacon, toast and coffee. My wife had the French toast. Both meals were prepared quickly and were very good. Highly recommend. The service was friendly and efficient. If we are in the area again we will definitely stop again.

Nice parking lot. Even with a crowd you get a table fast. Food served hot without delays. Very friendly! Great all you can eat salad bar. Hot bread and soup included. Lots of extras at the salad bar. Priced very reasonable. Large servings. Wide variety on Menu. Great desserts. I give it a solid A.
