Let me start off by saying I am not very knowledgable when it comes to Mediterranean food. I've had it a few times, and liked it, but don't get it often enough. Sahara is near my house, and I didn't even know it existed until I started going to the comic book store next door. First impression, it's clean, menu has variety including vegetarian options. The woman at the counter was very nice, and explained the food well. I ordered the fried cauliflower, chicken shawarma, and got a Turkish coffee (this made me most happy). Behind the counter I could see them cutting up veggies for my food. It was as fresh as if I made it at home (which I can't do, hence why I'm here). Sauces were great. Meat was perfectly seasoned. Turkish coffee was fantastic. The nice woman (from earlier) gave me a free baklava to have with my coffee, which was unexpected, yet welcomed. It was delicious. Conclusion: This place is great, and I will absolutely be coming back. Service is great, food is superb, fresh, and reasonably priced. There were only a few very minor cons about Sahara. It's small, with only 7 tables, but that wasn't an issue during my visit. They're hours pretty much cater for lunch and early dinner crowds except Friday and Saturday: Closed Sun-Mon. Tues-Thurs 11-7 Fri-Sat 12-9.

What a great place! I had the chicken Swarma and it was delicious. Friendly, helpful staff. Great for fans of Mediterranean food and newbies wanting to try something.

OMG, loved Sahara. I felt like I was back at my friend's house in Manhattan and their mom had just cooked and called us all to the table. I had the chicken kabob platter, it comes with hummus, pitas, rice, grilled vegetables and tomato& cucumber salad. Cooked to order and the portion was huge. Enough for both of us. Chicken was tender and flavorful, not dry like many others I've tried. I'm so happy I found Sahara, I prefer mom & pop ethnic restaurants because of that home cooked taste and feel. This is that place! A definite must, I'll be back often!

The chicken shawarma is the best I've ever eaten, and the Kibbe was made when I ordered it. I had the cook come out, make sure the food was to my liking, and ask about how her food compared to others I have had. I was offered free dessert before I had even finished my meal, and its very reasonably priced. If you have a hankering for mediterranean food, greek food, or just something different, I'd take this locally owned business over Applebees any day of the week.

Had the combo platter, and will definitely be back to try everything else. I've had mediterranean food all over the country, and this was among the best. Edited to add everything else I've tried that's great: -chicken shawarma -kefta kabob platter -vegetarian grape leaves

Wow...one of our friends told us about this new restaurant and we will be back again again and again. The BEST chicken shawarma I have EVER had. The Kibbe was excellent as well. Everything here is fresh and made to order. The chicken was soooo moist. My wife had the tabouli and grape leaves and her thoughts echoed mine as well. We will be back very soon!

My husband and I have been to this restaurant twice. Both times, the food was excellent. I had the Chicken Kabob which came with a lovely, unique salad; hummus/pita bread, and grilled vegetables. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and was moist. One of the best chicken dishes I have had. My husband had the beef kabob, again juicy, tender and cooked just right. We also, ordered salads to go. I really like this restaurant because you know the food is made fresh. We had left overs for another meal and I was still very full. I had no room for dessert, but I wanted to try their Baklava. I got it to go. I tried it later that night. I always enjoy Kiffle Cookies at Christmas time, but this Baklava was even better. It had honey at the base; but, these were not completely saturated in honey the way most are that I have tried. They were just perfect and delicious. I would highly recommend you try out this new restaurant. I think it will be worth the trip.

The place is new and I went there with lunch after I found it on yelp. The reviews suggested to go with chicken shwarma that we both got along with babaganoush. The babaganoush was very cold, out of the refrigerator and tasted just ok (3/5). The chicken shwarma surprisingly was cold too and didn't tasted anything like previous reviews have suggested and was simply again ok. I may try it again to see if it was not just off day for them but it surely doesn't look like anywhere close to 5 star.

absolutely spot on! unfortunately i don't know much about mediterranean food but i do know that a gyro in one country is different from a gyro in another country and so forth with other dishes like falafel. but what i do know is when my taste buds, wallet and eyes agree on something and sahara satisfies all those 100%! we've eaten here a couple of times and loved it. even the way they grill onions has that extra "umami" (if could use that word) depth that other places lack even in NYC where i usually eat mediterranean food. service is excellent. mom and daughter are the sweetest and really care about what they're making and serving and for that one cannot put a dollar figure on. what i am also aware is that they are from Syria so I'm assuming their dishes have a Syrian take on it which i think is awesome as i've never had Syrian food and am looking forward to making it my weekly lunch visit especially during the hot summer months when this kind of food really goes down great. they don't serve alcohol and not sure if its BYOB, but if not, i would definitely suggest the owners to offer this at least. hey ladies... keep up the great work as we'll be coming back often and telling our friends to go as well.
