Thank goodness I do not live nearby Paese Mio since I would eat here every week and gain lots of weight from the delicious bread and Italian food. We came here at 3:30pm which was the end of the lunch period and beginning of the dinner time. The owner of the restaurant was nice and gave us the lunch menu. Nice! Everything was great. We were so full at the end of the meal. Here are the reasons why I miss this place. + Huge portions and great prices. + Service was excellent. Our waitress always checked on us. + Complimentary bread and knots with the garlic olive sauce was amazing!!! The bread was warm with the garlic deliciousness. It was so hard to resist and not eat the entire basket before the meal arrived. + Garlic knots - Another winner! We received 6 pieces stuffed with garlic and drizzled with olive oil and garlic. This bread will keep the vampires away. + Pizza - My husband ordered 1/2 Paese Mio and 1/2 Meat Lovers. We didn't realize how big the pizza was going to be, so we had leftovers. Crust was very sweet. + Mix seafood in red sauce and whole wheat pasta - I substituted the regular pasta with whole wheat. Huge portions and lots of seafood. Every bite had clams and squid. There were also mussels, clams, and shrimps. Including tip, our meal cost $34. Good deal.

We found Paese Mio unremarkable at a recent dinner. The bread was fresh, but the garlic/oil-butter combo was served in a plastic container. (If I'm paying $20 per entree, something glass or ceramic would have been nice.) Salads were pedestrian and unimaginative. I tried the lamb chop entree; they were overcooked and smothered in a thin, mostly tasteless brown sauce. The accompanying sage ravioli were excellent. My wife's salmon dish was bland and swimming in at least a cup of cream sauce -- overkill. If we come next time, we'll stick to simpler dishes like the pizza and traditional Italian entrees. Service was a bit rushed. BYOB, which was nice.

We've been enjoying this place for 10 years. When we desire Italian cuisine closest to what grandma would make, this is our default, no reservations choice for the Lehigh Valley area. This is saying a lot given several pretty darned good Italian restaurants around. The complimentary red wine to go with the knots + garlic/oil while waiting for the main course, surely starts any meal off with a huge immersion in things Italian. Portions can be a bit much. Always taking leftovers home. Try the Quatro Gusti pizza: thin ham, artichokes, garlic, mushrooms, high quality cheese. Their pasta with home made sausage is grand slam good. It gets crowded after 5pm. Small venue so it gets cozey. Little mom-n-pop place with great expectations. I raised this to 5 stars. I don't like being too liberal with the stars but seeing this is one of the few places my wife actually likes, even suggests, certainly adds that star.

I have been coming here for over 15 years and will not return. The service was terrible, the expensive entrees ($25) we nearly inedible, and the place was filthy. All the while the owner sat on her iPhone and fooled around at the register. She is usually unfriendly, but she needs to pay attention to what is going on in her restaurant. And the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. It needs a remodel, and if not, at least a good scrubbing. Quality has really gone down, and that's very disappointing for this once beloved place.

Quaint stand alone building that was formerly an ice cream shop. Sauce (gravy) was not acidic enough, and somewhat sweet. Low grade meat in the lasagna with no crispy top, although, it was supposedly baked. Complimentary wine and good dinner rolls with fresh garlic dip. Decor could improve (I.e. plastic plants in vaulted ceiling, low pile carpeting, and formica walls). Friendly young servers. (3 1/2 stars.)

If your sign on the door and website say you are open till 11:00.....then stay open till 11:00.. I called on a Friday night at 10:34 p.m. to order a pizza and the girl that answered the phone said that they were closed. When I asked why did it say they were open till 11:00, she said her boss said they were closed and not taking any orders. If your running a business don't be lazy and inconvenience your customers that keep the place open and make you money. That will be the last time I order from there.

Nice atmosphere, food was pretty good. Would visit this place again!

I got the angel hair with vodka sauce and it was delightful. It comes with a regular salad and of course the bread with garlic and oil. So much food! The price is fine, flavor is great, service is kind. Just a yummy comfort food place to eat.

I've eaten here twice and both times were outstanding. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. The is by far the best Italian food I've had in the valley. We have eaten eggplant rollatini, chicken piccata, pizza and cannoli. The eggplant and chicken were outstanding. The pizza was great, but not the type I prefer (I like thinner). The cannoli was also good. Lastly, the garlic knots are awesome! Loads of fresh garlic! They also have complimentary wine. The restaurant is small and very busy, but it is well worth it!

I normally really like this restaurant and have given it great reviews in the past. However, this Sunday my family and I were very disappointed. Maybe, it was because it was a Sunday afternoon and the regular chef wasn't there, but it was sorely lacking. The service was awesome. We were seated right away and out came the drinks and bread. The waiter was excellent. We all got the normal fare, nothing fancy. Just meatballs, sausage and spaghetti. First of all, and my biggest annoyance is when food is served room temp not hot at all. In fact the center of the meat was cold. This tells me it was made in advance and heated thru. But the flavor was lacking. We chewed it like it was mush in our mouths. Everybody left their plates to be boxed but when I got home I heaved it in the trash. Even the sauce was crappy. No flavor no garlic or oregano, nothing!! Flat and unimpressive. Like I said, normally this is a go to restaurant with big portions and excellent food. But, wow what a difference today.

Great family style restaurant. Portions are generous, staff is very friendly. Garlic knots & accompanying garlic butter is highly addictive. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in this neck of the woods.

Hands down best pizza in the area! The complementary bread is to die for if you love garlic like me. Staff is always nice, but there is sometimes a long wait to be seated and the waiting area is very small and crammed. However, they will sometimes serve bread if the wait is really long. I recommend eating in rather than taking out because the pizza is way better when it is hot and fresh. There is also a nice outdoor seating area, but I sometimes find it to have slower service because the server needs to go inside to get your food and drinks. It's my favorite restaurant, but be careful because you will probably smell like garlic afterwards!

My family has been going to Paese Mio for many years now. The owners are very friendly and the service is great. The garlic bread they serve in the beginning is delicious and leaves you with kickin' breath...woohoo!! I often get full from eating all the bread and end up getting my meal packed to eat the next day.

I'm not Italian but love good Italian food...I believed the hype of Paese Mio and was sorely disappointed. First time and sadly, probably the only time i'll be going... The amount of garlic was fine with me but the sauce was wayyyy to watery.

This is a cheap BYOB italian-american place with tasty food made with love. A place you would find all over NJ or NY but not so common in this part of PA. I have always had outstanding service and lovely fresh food.

Excellent food. Delicious Italian food. Great bread sticks with garlic and oil. I highly recommend this place.

If I was on death row and I could pick one restaurant to cater my jail cell before being put to death, it would be Paese Mio. Best pizza! Best chicken parm! Best garlic bread! And Michael's specialty, which is never on the menu (pasta, shrimp, olive oil and garlic) is over-the-top delish. I've been eating here for 15+ years and have never been dissatisfied. Plus the prices are great. A must-try for those who love authentic Italian!

Been going here for years! By far the best Italian food I have ever had. Everything is fresh, portions huge and staff is friendly! Seafood dishes are the best but the pizza also can't be beat!! Daily specials are creative and always delicious! Family owned and operated and you can tell they pour their heart and sole into every meal!!

Mamma Mia!..... Pros: Good food. Big portions. Excellent bread. Personable service. Nice value. Cons: Crowded even on weekdays. Nothing fancy ( if that's what you'd like ) Suggestion: Go early. Lay off the bread...it's good and filling. Star Ratings: - Overall: 4 - Food Quality: 4 - Food Quantity: 5 - Dining Room: 3 - Menu: 4 - Service: 4 - Price: 4 - Value: 5 - Parking: 4 - Ambiance: 3 - Smell: 4 While in Allentown for an 8 day visit with family, my wife and I had the chance to sample food from a variety of places ranging from restaurants to Wegman's. One of our two Italian dinners was at the Florence Grill in Fogelsville while another was Paese Mio. When we arrived at 530 PM on a Thursday, there were only a few tables taken. However, by the time our meal for 9 people ended about 7 PM, the place was almost full with just a few spots available in the back parking lot. Very impressive for a weekday! - Food: Since I eliminated most meat ( except for occasional chicken ) about 20 years ago, I usually order eggplant parmigiana for dinner at Italian restaurants. In fact, it's become something of a test. If the place passes the parmigiana prize, it's worth a return visit. My plate was filled with 6 big fillets of eggplant, firm but not chewy, with a generous helping of cheese and tomato sauce. Holy mama! Just the sight and smell was enough to get my digestive juices flowing. Grade A. Before the main dish arrived, I had a small side salad which was okay, but nothing to brag about. However, the main feature on our table were baskets of warm garlic rolls alongside small bowls of chopped garlic. I'm always a sucker for bread, but these were so addictive I could only muster the strength to eat 3 of my 6 eggplants later in the meal. My wife had chicken marsala ( it's either that or eggplant with Italian food ). She liked it, but said it was prepared in pieces...as most restaurants do...as opposed to the full fillets of her Brooklyn youth. Other people in our party had chicken and veal dishes or personal size pizzas meant for doggie bag meals the next day. The only complaints heard were "I ate too much". We left with so many Styrofoam containers you'd think we just finished our weekly shopping. - Menu: Full of family favorites. Similar to the dishes I remember growing up in New York. However, there was one major surprise. They did not have beer or wine for purchase. Our server said "it's BYOB". Still, the menu offered a "free glass of wine" with each entrée which was refilled as often as requested. Although they only had generic red and white and certainly won't win any awards, it was still a nice touch. - Price and Value: Very reasonable. Lots of food...tasty if not exactly gourmet...for a middle income wage earner. We paid around $20 per person including tax and tip. - Service: The young woman serving our family and nearby tables was friendly and accommodating, especially with a couple of picky eaters in our party. She kept everyone up-to-date on the status of each dish and apologized when 1 plate was particularly late. Management of Paese Mio kept a watchful eye on our room and checked to make sure things went okay. - Atmosphere: Nothing fancy. Essentially a functional restaurant with 2 main dining rooms ( and a thriving take out business ) and family friendly food. - Parking: There are probably enough spaces in the lot to fill every table in the restaurant. When we arrived at 530 PM, only a few cars were seen, but by 7 PM, both Paese Mio and its lot were full. - Smell Test: They passed. With every Italian restaurant, it's important ( at least for me ) to practically taste the food while outside the place. I got a few whiffs as we approached, but it hit full bore by the door. It's a great idea to put the pizza ovens upfront because that blasts the scent of cheese and garlic in your face. Perhaps they can pipe it into the parking lot. If we lived around Allentown, we'd join the crowd as regular customers of Paese Mio.

Stopped here on our way home from a visit with our daughter at Kutztown University. Absolutely disgusting. Food was beyond gross. Even our drinks had a funny taste. Yuk

Met a colleague there last evening for dinner. It really rates no stars. To begin with the waitress was stupid and clearly not trained. We got our salad, first course and second course within 3 minutes of each course. I had a pasta dish that was just horrible. Tasteless, no eye appeal and looked like a dogs breakfast! My colleagues veal dish looked even worse. Ordered coffee which came out luke warm. Served with no spoon or sugar. By the time we could find Ms. Stupid it was cold. When I asked for hot coffee a spoon and sugar she responded oh you said you did not want cream so I thought you did not want sugar. I do not know if it changed owners but what it was is not what it is. So if you want a really wretched meal you came to the right place!

This is one of our favorite places. We live nearby and this place is a neighborhood gem. We normally stop in once a week or so. This is the only place we have ordered take home pizza from since they opened over 10 years ago. We also like their dinners as well. The food is good, it is a BYOB with no corkage fee and the portions are large. We normally take half our meals home for the next day... great value!

I think the words we used to describe the pizza at Paese Mio was, "i haven't had pizza this amazing in ... well forever.. juicy, moist, exactly what you want in pizza".. and this is coming from a group of New Yorkers (and one Philly guy). As the other reviews mentioned, don't let the outside view of this restaurant fool you - we were worried it was a side of the turnpike food place, but it isn't - it is actually well known by locals in the area (we were recommended here when doing our own mini winery tour). We also had an order of mussels (it was okay, a bit rubbery) and the Scallops/Portobello Mushrooms - very delicious and lots of sauce. They also give you complimentary warm bread with this amazing fresh garlic filled oil. Definite must come back place if I am in the Allentown area.

Went earlier this evening and had the Salmon special again. Holy cow! Awesome and huge! I'm a big eater and I had to take some home. Right now I'm in a food coma and I like it! I love this place and you can never go wrong here. If you leave hungry then you have something wrong with you.

Amazing service and great pizza. Excellent value, a lot of food for a cheap price. Food (swordfish) and atmosphere not good at all. Very outdated decor.

Excellent garlic bread!!!!! I had the scallops in portabella mushroom, it was an appetizer but I asked to make it a platter served over pasta, it was simply excellent! My wife had chicken fettuccine alfredo, portions were very generous. They make there there own sauces. I wish they would make there own home made tiramisu, I asked and they said they do not, bummer. Will definitely go back for more tasting!

Paese Mio is a great family owned Italian restaurant. The food is excellent, portions are huge, reasonably priced, service is great and the restaurant is clean. Not fancy, but very homey and comfortable. I had the baked ziti and added meatballs - delicious! The ziti was super cheesy and perfectly al dente. I'm a huge meatball fan and these were awesome! Do yourself a favor and give this place a try!

Been staying in the area for work, really saddened by the food options, until I found Paese Mio. Their salads are fantastic. Their Garlic Knots are lethally good, but most of all, their pizza is simply amazing. It reminds me of my favorite pizza place back in Binghamton, Consoles. A sweetish sauce, good cheese and perfect crust. Take out was simple, it also looks like a fun place to eat. We loved it.

This place never disappoints. Always great food, large portions and friendly service at a reasonable price. The Veal Picatta was excellent. I definitely recommend this place.

Good pizza. The slices for take out are pretty huge; twice the size of normal slices. Can be a bit greasy but a good pizza overall.

Was planning to have an enjoyable evening out with my son for Muhlenberg Parent weekend. We chose this place based upon the reviews and close proximity to Muhlenberg. We both ordered the special (mahi mahi) which was very tasty although a bit too oily. About 1/4 of the way through my dish I found a hair in my plate. The waitress was very professional and brought the dish to the "manager". I was offered a replacement but I had already lost my appetite. I was told the "manager" would reduce the price of my dish by 1/2. My son went to speak directly with the manager and the owner also came out to speak with him. They accused him of placing the hair in the dish. I then went to speak with them to try to reason with them but they were rude, accusatory and antagonistic. I will never step foot in their establishment again. The owner stated if I did choose to return, he would refuse to serve me.

Easily the best pizza/Italian anywhere near the West Allentown/Upper Macungie/Fogelsville area. Not too long ago there was nothing even close to this in the area. Paese Mio hit the ground running as soon as they opened. There were growing pains, but it didn't take long for them to garner a substantial local customer base. They're a nice family and take pride in the food and service. They work hard and it shows. Big fan of the pizza in particular (thin NY style), but the meals are very good also. It's a casual place to dine in or take out. Food is excellent quality either way.

Great Veal Picatta one night followed the next afternoon with an Old Fashioned Pizza for lunch! When your here, they make you feel like you're dining right in their dining room. Overtly friendly, which is an awesome thing and great ambiance. Food is top notch. When in Allentown, Pennsylvania, come on over and give it a try!

This use to be our go to place. But its slipping. Last few times we been there we were served left over bread from lunch was hard no flavor. When the owner isn't there staff always having a field day don't expect refills on drinks .Portions have decreases and prices have increased. Will rethink before I return .

In town for work and I love Italian food so I asked a couple friend s that live in town and they both recommended this little hideaway that you might drive right by if not looking for it, this would be a mistake. First of all when I walked in was greeted in a very family type way , and was seated right a way ordered the garlic knots did not disappoint at all , some of the best I have ever had. Next ordered angel hair pasta with meatballs friggen fantastic . Dont think I hav had better service , nice helpful very cool down to earth group. 2 thumbs way . Ps went back and got cheese pizza it was friggen fantastic ...........

Last night was our first visit and we were impressed. We loved their garlic breadsticks. Food was plentiful, one of our dishes was linguine with clam sauce and it was unbelievable the amount of clams. Stuffed shells were good, the only sort of complaint is they could have been a bit hotter. Otherwise good food and attentive server and staff. The place was packed when we left.

Don't let the outside of this quaint place fool ya... Paese Mio's is one of the best Italian restaurants in the area. From pizza to pasta, they've got it all. The eggplant parm is one of my fave dishes. Don't skip out on the garlic knots either... they are smothered in garlicky deliciousness and are sure to make your breath stink for hours afterwards!

I ordered the Old Fashioned pizza which is supposed to be a well done crust. It was not. It was a typical thin crust. I was hoping for golden brown cheese with a crispy crust but it was just the typical crust. The pizza pie had good flavor but it did not meet my expectations. You can have a glass of red or white wine but no beer. I would come back. I just would have lower expectations. I just talked with the waiters about it and they had to change the crust because take out pies were getting soggy. When dining in tell them u want the Old Fashioned crust extra thin and crispy to get the really good crust!

  • G D.

Its nice place with good italian food in the middle of nowhere. I especially loved the garlic bread they serve and their portions. After having the garlic bread, salad, I hardly had any appetite left for the entree. I ordered a Chicken piccata and it was somewhere between strictly ok to good. I tried my friends Lasagna and I liked that. So I am thinking that I may have been wrong with the choice of my entree. Better if I should have asked the waiter to recommend something. We also received a complimentary glass of wine. Overall a good place and certainly worth the money you spend.

I love Paese Mio. The service is great. I enjoy eating out on the patio. I shared their "Old Fashioned Pizza" tonight with a friend. It was absolutely perfect. Crispy, not too much sauce or cheese, a real treat. 8 slices were easily consumed. I treated myself to a homemade canolli for dessert. It should be illegal, it was that good. I highly recommend you make the trip to Paese Mio. I've had many of their other dishes as well as their super delish pizza. Best in the Valley for sure.

I finally had a chance to eat at Paese Mio. It's been recommended to me for years, tried to go previously but the parking lot was so full we couldn't find a spot. Went on a Sunday afternoon. There was only one other couple in the restaurant. We must of timed it just right! The food... Excellent! We started with salad and some delicious bread with garlic/oil dip. The bread was promptly refilled after I devoured most of it. My wife got one of the seafood specials. (Approx $24) Lobster Tail, Shrimp, Mushrooms, Artichokes over Risotto. She absolutely loved it. I had the Chicken Piccata($16.99) which was fabulous. The best part is you also get huge portions, we each took home enough to get a decent lunch the next day. Oh yeh, BYOB is also a huge plus for me! I highly recommend Paese Mio for a great Italian meal. I still have to try the Pizza!

Unexpected great Italian food. This is a little restaurant with statues and large colored Christmas lights outside (similar to Buca de Beppo). I think it is in a prefab mobile, too. This place is seriously Italian, although their red sauce could use some work. They bring you out toasty bread with chopped up garlic all over it (raw, that is). Their ravioli in cream sauce is incredible and you can't go wrong with any baked pasta. For dessert they have tradition Italian dessert including Bomba (chocolate and vanilla ice cream in a hard chocolate shell with a cherry in the center).

We have been to Paeso Mio many times over the years and originally it was one of our favorite Italian restaurants. We liked everything that we ordered and we loved the garlic knots! Unfortunately, something has changed and while the people are all very friendly and the service is very good, the food lacks any real flavor. We went there recently with a group and none of the three different entrees that we had were enjoyable. A while ago we took a friend who is always eating at good restaurants and she told us she was very disappointed in the food -- a comment that we have to agree with especially after we built up the restaurant so much. As I said, they are a bunch of nice people so hopefully they can somehow get back to where they were a couple of years back and become a favorite of ours again!

My wife and I get pizza there almost once a week, and eat in there frequently. It is a family owned establishment, and the owners are very friendly, and many times stop by your table to say hello. The pizza is great, and many of thier entrees are very good. My fav is chicken parm. And their meatballs are excellent!

We seriously love this place. Usually we are foodies with snobby wine palates but this place is simply great as your neighborhood Italian eatery. Raw chopped garlic swimming in olive oil to spread on warm bread - yum! We end up asking for seconds every time. Comp red and white house wine as well. We've never made it to dessert but the entrees we've tried (baked pasta, pesto angelhair and a few chicken, veal and seafood dishes) have all been good. Comp salads that come with entrees do the job. We honestly love this place!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
