As someone who has never eaten authentic Mexican food before (even a Taco Bell is 30 minutes from me), I have nothing food-wise to compare this restaurant to. But after going there once, I dream about going back at least once everyday. I'm drooling right now writing this review and if La Placita was open, I would stop what I was doing to go get some Bisteca Tacos, or Chorizo Tacos, or Shredded Pork Tacos. That's all I was able to try in one sitting but I went with a friend who knew the ropes and advised that I also order a delicious Horchata, a creamy drink that is hard to describe, I heard about it in a Vampire Weekend song once. The family who runs this are incredibly nice and a sweet old lady offered me a free piece of something that looked like King Cake that they eat in New Orleans for Fat Tuesday. The only warnings are that this is CASH ONLY and there are maybe 5 or 6 tiny little tables in back - don't plan on going here with more than 4 people!

You can taste how home-cooked this food is. Everything is fresh, and come out hot and fast! Definitely order the pork soup. It's full of big chunks of pork that just pull apart. The broth is just amazing though. Very round, savory flavor. The sandwich (we ordered ours with pork) was surprisingly awesome. It was thick and full of goodness. Also really enjoyed the tostadas. It's pretty tight in the seating area though. Don't come with more than 4 people in a group. Very casual.

We have traveled extensively in Mexico and wintered in Tucson, AZ for 15 years and are spoiled on good Mexican food. this is the best, true "authentic' food we have had in the Northeast. Food is excellent. Price is reasonable. Service is prompt and very friendly. Got a little practice on my inadequate Spanish, too Definite be back. Don't go for s fancy environment, but definitely neat atmosphere. No alcohol although they night allow BYOB.

This is what I miss from CA. Just wish they had AL pastor too! They speak english, but it doesn't hurt to know some Spanish too! Good mom and pops spot

Awesome little Mexican deli. It feels like you're just in a neighbors kitchen, eating homemade food. Food is authentic and straight forward. This isn't Americanized Mexican food like chipotle or even Cali Burrito. Space is tight inside, and the guac is just so-so. Chips and spicy salsa verde comes out first. Ingredients are a little sub-pat but the flavor is great. Great little hole-in-the-wall!

This is truly one of the best little Mexican spots in the Lehigh Valley for a handful of reasons. The owners are two of the nicest people that you'll find on earth and they've hung tight on that little corner of Allentown for almost twenty years, through good and bad. The deli itself is not the most accommodating of a large group, but one or two can dine comfortably in a corner of Mexican imports. I usually take out and stick with a couple of favorites, prepared simply, which nail the form. I've eaten nearly everything on the menu at some point over the past ten years, and single out the enchiladas, both green and red, as well as the burritos and tacos as winners. Very straightforward, and all the meats are delicious. George and Ana present a basic Mexican-American menu, featuring the things you'll find in any small "authentic" Mexican restaurant here, including the aforementioned staples, plus sopes, tostadas, tortas mexicanas, quesadillas and a few plates of various meats served with rice and beans. It's all tasty, if somewhat limited. Remember: CASH ONLY and you'll have to ask for the red picante to drizzle over your tacos, since they typically only serve the green tomatillos salsa.

Wow. I was not expecting Mexican food this good in Allentown, PA. I am from Arizona. My grandmother was from Mexico. I am very picky with Mexican food, and usually Sonoran Mexican food is my favorite. This food is from Puebla Mexico, way south and way different than Sonoran. I had enchiladas with rice and beans and a quesadilla. That came to $12 (I'm from Manhattan, so that seams like pennies to me). The enchiladas had two kinds of cheese and delicious sauce. The quesadilla was fresh and delicious. GOOOOOOO. P.S. It's a deli. Don't expect table cloths and a fine dining experience. Do expect loud Mexican music. But the food is worth it!

For those looking for a eat in restaurant this is not the place for you. This is a Mexican grocery-deli-take out owned by a charming family. The menu options are not much but for what they are perfect. For those who have sampled Mexican carts in Mexico and Southern California, this place will bring back delicious memories. For those who are content with "healthy", bland, dry hello burritto stuff, please do not come here. Order their tacos and burrittos, browse through some interesting mexican grocery items. Maybe try their coke from a bottle (made with real cane sugar and tastes different from the coke here), jarritos tamarindo (tamarind soda) and their icecreams.I recommend their hot (not for the faint hearted) tamarind candy. They might think you are loopy (its mostly for kids), but hey its delicious...and SPICY! For those looking for something different, try their pork/steak with cactus. Its delicious. Their sandwiches are also quite decadent. The food will be cooked right in front of you on a flat top griddle right behind the counter. Watch and drool! They do not accept credit cards, so bring some cash, but a gigantic meal for two will not exceed 30$ so you dont need much. This place will give you a Mexican street food experience right here in the heart of Allentown. Aren't we lucky?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
