From out of town and came here on a Saturday night to have Hibachi and had to come back the next night to try more sushi, which did not disappoint! Hibachi: fun show, great portions, delicious food. Especially great for date night. Sushi: fresh, good quality Drinks: try the pina colada! Service: fast and friendly :)

Quite possibly the worst sushi ever. A colleague and I went for lunch, and he picked it based on reviews. We were horribly disappointed by everything. In fact, most of the sushi went to waste. Apps: Their Hawaiian poke was nasty. They put peanuts on it? Seriously? Don't serve up a half assed app. If you don't have an ingredient or the new guy doesn't know how to make something, then don't serve it. Period. Sushi: Their rolls sucked. Spider roll my friend had was inedible. They saved mine with a piece of plastic seaweed? That is your presentation? Are you kidding me??? This isn't gas station sushi...we are spending good money here. Have some pride for god's sake. Oh yes...I forgot to mention the service, or lack thereof. Nobody there and took forever to even get a refresh on the soda, or the check to get the heck out of there. Is the hibachi good? Don't know and don't care. If it is so good to have high reviews, then close your terrible sushi side of the business.

Wow. What an amazing show and experience. The wife and I were visiting Allentown for the weekend and wanted to try some asian cuisine and we came across this place on yelp. Boy were we in for a pleasant surprise. The menu is large and robust and features an entire assortment of seafoods and meats for the hibachi as well as a large sushi selection and even korean food. My wife and I sampled everything from scallops to lobster to filet mignon to sushi to cocktails. The chef and host were very pleasant and helpful with selecting the best items from the menu. The show was good. About as good as any hibachi show I've seen. I didn't catch the broccoli btw. The food was good. And the environment was nice...busy but not loud and obnoxious. We loved our experience so much we came back the following day prior to going home for a quick bite of sushi near the sushi bar. Yummm. Totally recommended. I'll remember this place when I come back to Allentown or try to find one like it in Connecticut.

Really appreciate the show, great skills. Sushi is good as well. Casual and relaxing. Not overly busy.

Good sushi and gasoline Saki! Tried 4 different kinds of sushi. All very fresh but the scallop hand roll was amazing. Extremely fresh and clean tasting raw scallops. The house saki was interesting. First of all the stone carafe was so hot we had to use our napkins to pour it so we didn't get burned. It was some harsh stuff. Should have tried a chilled premium type instead. Glad the drunks at the bar uttering racial slurs left shortly after we got there. Bathroom is miles away from the sushi bar and entails having to meander through the hibachi dining room. Didn't like the walk though curtain in the bathroom hall. Walking through it made me wonder when the last time it had been laundered. Must touch soft surfaces have no place in a bathroom hallway. Overall okay experience despite my gripes.

Excellent Hibachi! Large portions that have delectable flavor! The hibachi cooks can be hard to understand sometimes but they always communicate with you how you want your food to be done. Hibachi noodles are my favorite by far but fried rice is also amazing! Sometimes the service when you first walk in isn't immediate but that doesn't bother me too much. Definitely recommend!

This is my absolute favorite japanese steakhouse. I have been to many others including Benihana and I still believe that Ichiban is the best in selection and price. I have been here more than 100 times and the wait staff know me by name and even remember what I like to order. Excellent service and presentation. A definite place to visit for special occasions or just everyday dinner. Love, love, love it.

  • Jeff L.

We have been here a a few times and it never disappoints- kids enjoy the fire at the beginning along with the onion volcano- food is always well done. Great for groups and birthdays-

Ichiban has been my all time favorite restaurant for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was a little girl, my family and I would come here to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. The birthdays here are always so much fun! They do a special ceremony with a gong for you, and give you a complimentary fruit boat and picture. Also if you're birthday is within one week of you celebrating, they let you spin the birthday wheel of fortune and you can win up to $30 free gift card! Can't be that! I don't know anywhere else that does anything remotely close to that. The food is wonderful and always nothing less of delicious. The sushi and sashimi is extremely fresh, and the hibachi grill food is simply devine. There's nothing like the fried rice hot off the grill! All the chefs are very talented as well and give a little show in the beginning that is always very neat to watch. As far as the staff, they are all extremely helpful and nice and attentive to every little thing. this place will continue to be my favorite restaurant and I will always be a loyal customer :)

The sushi here is legit. Sit at the sushi bar and they'll treat you right! I'll surely be back for more.

Consistently good food. This is a great place for date night or to bring a big group of friends. Best overall Japanese restaurant in Lehigh Valley. There are better sushi places like Asian Bistro on 3rd St in S Bethlehem.

  • Aye C.

My bf and I have come here for the past 3 years and we love the service and quality of food. This is the first time I got my bf to try sushi and the rest is history. He loves sushi after that one bite! I've gotten a bibimbap here, different rolls and hibachi dinners. They offer a lot of cuisine for being a Japanese restaurant. I'm glad that you can find so much variety. As far as service goes, the staff is attentive to every little thing. The bartender is always there to offer suggestions on what to order and what not to order. Overall, it's great place to eat at!

  • G C.

Food was solid. I had a chicken bento box dinner - lots of food, so i think it actually is worth the $20, a Bam Tuna Roll - it quite good and a seaweed salad (didn't have too much dressing, which is nice b/c a lot of times it does). I think their portions are solid and the prices are fair. I would recommend this place and i appreciate the location since i was staying at the Residence Inn and was trying to avoid Applebees (no offense). if i'm ever in the area again, i would def go again. It looked popular too, lots of people for a Wednesday night. This is important for sushi places to ensure high turnover of sushi. Great food option for the area.

Always a Great time, Hibachi dinner is fun and a show while you eat! They have fantastic sushi and sashimi! Saki and Sapporo beer! We have been celebrating birthdays for years here!

Came here with my daughter's softball team while in Allentown for a tournament. We had a blast! The food was okay to very good, not great, but the service was terrific and the staff made dinner seem like a party!

Hibachi + Bar are standard fare. I've always had a decent enough time with Hibachi, but I don't go here for the fanfare. The. Sushi. Look, I've been to Japan. I've had Sushi all over the U.S. This is my second favorite place for Sushi (second to an amazing place in Houston). They only recently started doing specials, but trust me, everything here is solid. The Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll is perfect and my favorite. The rice is the right temperature, ingredients are great, prices are fine, Sauces are great. The special rolls are built up enough, but not sickeningly so. I know the frustration of being somewhere and there's no good Sushi. Rather than spend a lot of money and unhappy tummies, just go to Ichiban. Bonus: The Kastu Chicken is good stuff.

    (5)
  • Jason K.

Mmmmmm sushi. Usually stop for sushi and a couple of rolls when in the area. Good selection and variety with new rolls recently added. Service has always been good.

Our first time here, on New Year's Day. Fantastic meal, high quality, and fine service. We will definitely be back!

  • Celic M.

The service and the food here is phenomenal! I first went with some colleagues and I ordered several different sushi/sashimi items and the waiter was surprised by the amount I ordered. The sushi came out beautifully. My colleagues all got hibachi and the service was quite enjoyable. The following time I went to Ichiban, I went with my significant other (about a month after my first experience -- I live 2 hours away) and the waiter (was not my waiter this time) in passing remembered me. I commented to the owner afterwards that his and the service I received both times really adds to the spectacular experience! We ordered jap chae this time and it was pretty good--only caveat I would say is a bit on the oily side-- but still extremely tasty and well priced. All items are priced appropriately. I have been there several times since and every time it has surpassed my previous experience.

Went here on a group outing, they took care of us well and service was good. I personally thought everything was way too salty - I went home that night and had to drink a gallon of water and still swelled up from a sodium overdose! I won't be going back anytime soon when back in Allentown.

    (2)
  • Keith L.

Okay sushi. I also have tried Korean dishes here. Nothing too spectacular, but solid. Prices are reasonable. I have not tried the hibachi here, but looks similar to most other places. Open until 11PM Saturday nights.

  • Adrianna L.

Stopped here last night for some dinner and found the place to well represent it's reviews for the most part. We had the crunchy spicy tuna roll, crunchy salmon roll, and one of their more decadent shrimp tempura rolls with a sweet sauce. We also had the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The tempura wasn't the best. I've absolutely had better. The food was absolutely nothing special or great, not that we expected it to be. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very tentative. She was a sweetheart too. Their beer options are subpar. My boyfriend is a huge beer man so that's something we always look at. Overall the service was great and food was good.

We come here every Christmas Eve for a family dinner, have never been disappointed. Recently came for my daughter's birthday, hibachi and had a wonderful time. The staff sang, paid her extra attention, and she won a gift card! The food is great, sushi is excellent and obviously fresh, good drink choices.

  • Sofia J.

Good enough for a quick meal before or after a flight. Had miso soup and the bikini roll, which def looked better in the picture, but still tastes fine.

Great Sushi! Great service. Not in the mood for Sushi? they will make almost anything, just ask.

  • Matt S.

My fiancee and I usually eat the sushi here, granted sushi is expensive any where ya get it but it's close to where we live so we take advantage of that. I am not big on Hibachi but I got some finicky eaters in the families and well it was where we ate to celebrate our combined B-days. I gotta say. The Hibachi was good. The chef knew what he was doing even if he had some pretty crappy aim with all the women at our table of trying to get food in their mouths. But his knife work was savvy and he had personality. It was a good show. We also got to gong, hear happy b-day and spin a wheel of fortune. I won $10 and my fiancee won $5 gift certificates. I had scallops that were cooked to perfection, the noodles were perfect, my nephew's steak was amazing. The soup & salad were above par. Loved it. Would definitely come back for the Hibachi !

We were near airport road working late and got hungry for take out Japanese so we ordered. We've taken out before and it was pretty good. We ordered three bento boxes and some gyoza. It was ready on time and packed up neatly. They put it into two bags to separate cold and hot and spillage was minimized by wrapping in plastic. The food was quite good and fresh and reasonably priced. We were all filled up and happy.

This is where I take all of my dates. Good prices and great food. It has a large variety of Asian foods, cocktails and a delicious sushi menu. I love sushi. The hibachi dinner is also my favorite way to heat things up with some traditional warm sake on the side. Ichiban is the perfect place for a family party, intimate date, or just a business dinner. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!

    (5)
  • Margaret J.

Good service, less-than-great sushi. I only ordered two things, though-- Boston Roll and Rudy Crunch Roll.

    (3)
  • An L.

The sajki sample was ok... The portion was small if you order from the menu... The chef special bo bui was ok, I can do better. Most of my friend enjoy it.

    (3)
  • Janet D.

A-ok. The hibachi grill was good, but the spicy tuna roll was the worst tuna roll i ever had. I should have known coming from California not to get sushi in Allentown, PA but i figured i would try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Do not! But that is just my honest opinion. And their special birthday gong, wow!!!! super annoying. We had two birthdays during dinner and it made me cringe.

    (3)
  • Victoria G.

Gross !!!!!! Your better off eating a salt lick !!!! I paid $142 for the worst food of my life . This food isn't even suitable for people on death row !!!!!!!!

  • Lori S.

This would be my 2nd choice for a sushi place in the Lehigh Valley, after Teppan. I enjoy their food and the atmosphere is not bad. It is handicap accessible.

    (4)
  • Peter O.

Sushi is good, fresh and well made. Their display is good and very appetizing. I have not tried the hibachi. The staff there is polite and well mannered and the service is good. I come here occasionally when I travel from Houston I am a regular fan of sushi but I don't come here too often as they tend to be slightly overpriced but then again, I live in Houston so I may be unfair in judging prices.

    (3)
  • David R.

I'm a regular and still think this is one on the best places in the valley for FRESH sushi!!!!!

    (5)
  • Paul D.

Food was good. Service was bad. Very disappointed. Our waitress was never around, missed an appetizer and I was not able to flag her down to get a dessert or cake for my wife's birthday. Pretty bummed...

WHERE AND WHY: Joe and I were shopping for a baby shower gift last Monday (sorry - time is flying!) and we are doing our best to eat healthy. However, we are also pretty swamped and food prep... ain't nobody got time for that. We ventured to Ollie's because we also needed some wrapping supplies for a wedding the same week... I must say, we are feeling rather popular lately and I kinda love it! After moving here and struggling to make friends, I think we are finally finding some great people that we mesh with! It's just hard because we are waiting to start a family and I think that that leaves us out of things most of the time. We just don't get it? I don't know. Anywho... while at Ollie's, we realized we were on the same city block as Ichiban! Ichiban holds a special place in our hearts. Joe grew up going there for hibachi on special holidays and I think there's always an excuse for sushi. My matron of honor called us to let us know that her and her husband are due for their second baby, a boy this time, in January! We are so happy for them! So we decided to celebrate with a big ol' sushi dinner. THE EXPERIENCE: We had the best time! Joe and I decided to sit at the bar and eat sushi like they were tapas. I had my glass of pinot noir and Joe had his Yuengling. Our bartender, Mike, was fantastic! He had the patience to teach me how to use chopsticks, although I am not very good at holding them still... his technique and teaching method has made the most sense in all my years of trying. He was super knowledgable about the sushi and helped me feel safe in venturing out from my 2-3 favorite sushi rolls. We had a fantastic night and a great date there. I even made Joe go back and tip Mike a little more because he was so stellar! THE FOOD: I, of course, ordered the spicy tuna roll. It's a classic for me and I know I will like it, unless the sushi place sucks. Well Ichiban we know is good, so I ordered my standard spicy tuna. I also ordered the Crazy Spicy Tuna roll. We had had this for Joe's friend's birthday. Ryan and Lindsey had treated us to Ichiban last fall and we hadn't been since. I hope they visit again soon so Lindsey and I can shove our faces with Crazy Spicy Tuna! Joe ordered his eel roll... I actually tried it and it was fantastic! Joe even encouraged me to eat tuna sashimi... In all my sushi-loving years, I had never had sashimi. It was good! I still like rolls better, but I am so proud of myself for eating sashimi. Mike caught on that I had never had sashimi and encouraged us to try a volcano roll and the Spicy Tuna Bam roll. WE LOVED THEM. I highly recommend these rolls for those of you out there like me: I love spicy tuna but it's scary to venture out! The volcano roll is cooked with shrimp and has the texture of sashimi. It was really good. The Spicy Tuna Bam roll is so flavorful and delicious with tuna sashimi on top - it blew my love for the Crazy Spicy Tuna roll out of the water! I was shocked at how delicious it was. and all the while, I ate the tuna with chopsticks. I really gave myself a pat on the back after this dinner! CLOVER RATING: This restaurant is a four leaf clover. Every time we go, we are treated like family. The servers and bar tenders are knowledgable and helpful in making great choices. Joe was even impressed and that takes some hard work ;) TAKE HOME MESSAGE: Joe and I really loved our experience. We often don't think to go to Ichiban because it is set back into a plaza and off the main drag, Airport Road. However, after the last few times we went, we realized that we should incorporate it into one of our special restaurants more often. Perhaps we will venture back for a meal in September! Who knows! Thanks, Mike! We had a great time and are so thankful for your help in navigating the menu! for more, please see thelvthymes.blogspot.com

We come here probably at least twice a month. This place is one of the most consistent and quality restaurants in the valley. The service is always outstanding the food and sushi is always fresh and generous. The bartender Mike is one of the few bartenders in the Lehigh Valley who actually knows what he's doing. They will make pretty much anything for children if you ask. Although we usually sit in a booth , going into the hibachi section is always a good time especially with the group. Both the sushi and hibachi dinners are always good and the fish is always fresh. Try the spicy sashimi salad, agadashi tofu, and the sushi crunchy popper appetizer on the small stand up table menu...to die for. If you're into presentation the cooks clearly know what they're doing. In addition every $10 you get a point. 50 points get you a $50 gift certificate. The only negative I would say is that Verizon doesn't get a signal there and there is no Wi-Fi so you can't use your phone inside.

Love this place - One of the greatest sushi places in the Lehigh Valley - be sure to check it out. Food is great and sit at the bar, bartender (Mike) makes great drinks and gives great recommendations!!!

Had an awesome dinner at this local place. The sushi was fresh and they had such a great selection of rolls. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy !

Decent sushi but terrible customer service. They didn't apply the birthday coupon that I gave them, overcharged me and then later refused to give my money back. Then they just kept telling me to just use my coupon next time. Never going here again.

I didn't think I would be writing an update for this place so soon, but I did visit again the week after I wrote the review. This time I ordered the Spicy Chicken BBQ entree and some Yellowtail sashimi (wanted Red Snapper but they didn't have any). The spicy chicken wasn't what I expected at all, which was a Korean dish as their name on the menu suggests. Instead, it was a wet and saucy dish with overcooked veggies and dry strips of chicken breasts. Furthermore, the yellowtail sashimi did not look right at all! I didn't even eat, it didn't smell fishy, but boy did it look funny. It was not the opaque with a red/pinkish tint I would imagine yellowtail to look like, Instead it was a more offwhtie/yellow color. Bummer, maybe I should start ordering my food there instead of calling in so I can take a look at the fishes first.

Om nom nom! I love their teriyaki chicken! They have hibachi, a sushi bar, and a small drink bar. The staff is very friendly and they offer frequent customer cards which one of my co-workers got a free gift card on, nice! The only reason I didn't go 5 stars is that the place seems almost a little dirty or perhaps the decor is just dated and I'm equating it with being dirty.

  • Linda F.

I prefer the food here, from sushi to hibachi to even the small Korean menu. I love getting the garlic albacore salad, Rudy Crunch roll, and Crab Delight roll.

  • Michelle H.

It's beautiful. Nice bar. Hibachi if your interested in that sort of thing. A good place to bring a group of people for the entertainment. A little pricey I think. The food is great. Can't go wrong there.

    (4)
  • Brian H.

The buffet is on the average level. You can have a lot of food to eat. If you just want to order sushi, the sushi boat is also good. I studied in this area and my friends would usually come here if we don't know what to eat. You can always know the quality of the food you eat. Overall, I think this Japanese restaurant is worth visiting if you haven't been here.

    (3)
  • Frank D.

The food was so so, not authentic. The service was no good at all. Not recommended.

  • Glenn T.

I don't know why this place gets a bad rap. Well, one reviewer was a vegetarian, so that says a lot... anyway, Ichiban means #1 in Japanese. I have been going to Japanese steak houses since I was about 10 years old and know what good Japanese is (I prepare it frequently at home).Ichiban has never disappointed me! I eat sushi like a whale inhales plankton and their sushi is always fresh and portions are generous. Unlike "The Other Fish" where I fear food poisoning and can't understand why people eat there. The hibachi table is hit or miss with a chef who really knows his stuff. I can't stand a chef who does not do any of the theatrics with his knife and the food. other than that the portions are generous and the food tasty.

Very good sushi/sashimi. Pleasant atmosphere and very friendly. I plan to visit again when I'm in the area.

It was a year ago before we moved to the LV area that I went with my bf on his business trip and his boss took us to this place for dinner. I was curious to why. In my head I was thinking "is it cuz I'm Asian and you feel the need to take me to an Asian place!?" Grr, whatever the reason was I hate hibachi restaurants. They are not even real Asian food. It's like they use ingredients that can potentially become Asian cuisines. We didn't have any sushi just the overly priced fried rice and meats that they cook in front of you. Overall, you're just paying for the hibachi experience, not really the quality of the dish.

    (2)
  • shey a.

in the mood for saki...go for it...sushi is eh... I've had better at wegmens... the hibachi... I've been there several times but every time they miss part of the hibachi experience or they just don't care. I've made reservations here before and when i got there i still had to wait with my group of friends/family for about 15 to 30 minutes...

This place feels as if it were a chain store that served Japanese food. It feels gimmicky and the service is completely average. Don't listen to the people who say that the food is terrible. It's not terrible food, it's just boring average food. Pretend that Red Robin's or Applebees got it into their heads to start a generic sit-down Asian restaurant and this is pretty much what this place has to offer. It's a decently priced place to have a party (they bring out the gong and birthday treats and such) with a show (hibachi) to go along with the meal. I recall they had a decent beer selection so that helps too with the celebrating. The hibachi really wasn't bad. It really was just average quality. And the show the chefs put on isn't any different than anywhere else. The cold "salad" they serve is the only thing that was downright awful. Put it this way, it's better than "The Other Fish." Also, one of their waiters is awesome and will come out with the Polaroid camera and take your photo if it's your birthday. Although one time he poked me in the nipples. Intentionally. I am male. I filed that under "most memorable party experiences." Would come back for the sheer entertainment value!

  • Diane B.

I used to love Ichiban when it first opened for hibachi. The cooks were entertaining and the food was good. That all seems to have gone downhill. It depends on which cook you get but they seem to care less about entertaining you and lately the food has not been seasoned very well at all and my filet is usually overcooked. Last visit I was curious why it was so empty on a Saturday night. Don't really need to return to Ichiban.

    (2)
  • E I.

I only go here when I get free gift cards so that means that Ichiban isn't really my favorite. The food is just average - nothing to rave about.

  • Amanda L.

This was an okay place. I was homesick and craving for some noodles. Compared to the Japanese food in the Bay Area, this place was just sad. Kinda pricey for its quality and quantity. I got a Bikini Roll (Cooked yellowtail on a spicy eel California roll) and Zaru Soba. The sushi was much smaller than what it looked like from the picture on the menu. The seaweed in both of these dishes were not fresh and crispy, making them both unappetizing. Overall, it was acceptable for a sushi place in a small town.

    (3)
  • Mike V.

When the place was new it was great. The service was consistently good and food better. However after a while things started going downhill. They have expanded and have new chefs who are very sloppy. If you sit at the booths don't expect your meal to be similar to what you'd get at the hibachi side. I ordered "my usual" and it was completely different. I also ordered an appetizer while sitting at the hibachi and it was gross. It's a good experience if you're with a group of people, kind of fun (although I do find the constant banging of the gong during birthdays annoying). However when the novelty wears off and just want something for dinner you will find yourself somewhat disappointed.

the sushi is pretty wack, but the chicken teriyaki is good. and the iced tea is great, but that's not enough to keep me coming back to overpriced, blah food.

Traveling for work, asked the hotel receptionist where I can get good sushi. She said this was the place to go, and it was just right down the street from my hotel. Dining alone, I sat at the bar, ordered an app and sashimi dinner. Food came out super fast, and sashimi dinner included miso soup & salad, bowl of rice. Sashimi pieces were big slices and fish was fresh! I am usually not a fan of fancy rolls with sauce, mayo, cream cheese, etc. so I was happy to get good sashimi. Only major complaint is that their wine selection was POOR. They had Sutter Home, YUCK!! Come on, not even Kendall Jackson Chardonnay by glass?? The bartender was very pleasant, kept a good conversation with me without being too intrusive. I got 10% off the dinner bill showing the hotel room key, which the receptionist pointed out.
