I've eaten here several times and have enjoyed it every time. The portions on the lunch special are generous. I always get the chicken quarter and rice. Ms. Mema always has the food spilling off my plate. The service can take a little long so when I'm in a hurry I get the pastelillos (meat turnovers). The prices are really good, like day-before-payday good. The restaurant itself is kind of small and the dining room gets very warm in the summertime. I walk there from my office but if you're driving you should make time to find metered parking. I don't know why the review by Jennifer A was screened out but she's right - even though the sign says Spanish, the proprietors are Dominican. The cuisine is very close to my family's style of cooking (Filipino).

I was looking for Spanish food while delivering furniture in Allentown, PA and noticed El Vacano. The reason I chose to stop here is simple, it was painted vibrantly on the outside. Would they take their food as seriously as they took their image? The answer turned out to be a whopping, yes! I tried the beef dish (I can't remember the Spanish title) and it was wonderful, it had that wonderful home made taste, additionally I enjoyed their mangu side dish. The mangu was amazing, it's boiled plantain if you don't know, and it's game changing. It's buttery, peppery, salty. It's almost like a Spanish mashed potato dish, and it's not sweet. Watch out mashed potatoes, there's a new boss in town. Yes I might be a noob to Spanish food. But I have tried enough to know this place is more than a tasty treat.
