    Just awful! The food was terrible and the service was rude. The "pizza shop" food was way overpriced. Wont be back.

    A hidden place in South Whitehall. New owners have cleaned the place up, held on to the good dishes they had before, and improved on those. A BYOB with seating upstairs. The food is always good. My favorite is the Chicken Caeser Salad. I usually eat lunch there. I also like their Veal Marasla. They have great sub sandwiches, and excellent pasta dishes. The Pizza is good, but not anything special. It's located next to Daniels BMW and MINI of Allentown just of rt. 309 and Rt 22. on a dead end street. No TV which is nice.

    Under new ownership just his year, this is not the old Chianti, but a bustling, chic Euro-style eatery perfect for two, a large group, or business lunch. The new menu and new chefs, under new ownership, brings excellent pasta dishes, pizza, soups, and salads to Allentown. A bit tricky to find, Chianti is worth the trip, Super clean and newly chic, it is near Daniels BMW and Mini Cooper.

    The salad and bread (with oil, garlic, olives) were amazingly delicious. I ordered the Pasta Shells. Unfortunately, the sauce tasted just like Campbell's tomato soup. The shells were very delicious. Overall, great food, but the sauce may need work, especially when paying $15 - $20 per plate. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.

    Just don't go. Even if this place charged $5 for their pasta dishes I would not go back. Water tastes so bad I had to ask them and pay for bottled water (I'm guessing their ice is contaminated). Place was dirty. Waitress delivered waters to the table, dropped a lemon on the table then preceded to put it back on the cup of water. Pizza was swimming in grease and the Chicken Marsala might as well have been chicken in a bowl of butter. All I can do now is hope I do not end up sick!

    Went here back on New Year's Eve 2013. Took awhile to write this review but wanted to make sure people knew that they'd most likely be disappointed coming here. First, the dining room is on the second story of a pizza shop. Your greeted by someone working the pizza line or register who looks like they have nothing to do with the restaurant. Confusing and not so good start. It would all be good if the upstairs was cute, quaint, and clean...it's not. The dining room is poorly laid out, with very cheap, lame, typical Italian decor of a pizza shop throwing together a quick restaurant. I know its hard to run a business but the place feels like it's falling apart and hanging on with its cheap booths, standard plastic insert menus, and the AWEFUL music playing. It must have changed from nice quiet Italian music to loud pop music, back and forth, 5+ times. Bizarre!? The menu was completely uninventive. Nothing but standard Italian dishes that you see at ever so so pizza shop/ restaurant. And that's fine except that the dishes we ordered were average at best. I think the dirty, falling apart feel of the place made it all taste worst than it probably was. The highlight was when the server brought our main dishes out and asked us if we'd like some cheese. We happily said yes....then came out a grimy cheese shaker. Maybe we're picky snobs but if your looking for a cute Italian restaurant (which the name Chianti makes you have hope for)...this isn't the place. Just a same old, mediocre pizza place with a tired restaurant upstairs.

    I can't believe I'm seeing anything negative about this place... the food was amazingly delicious! They bake their own bread and creatively season each dish from scratch. My husband and I came on Thanksgiving eve in a hell of a snow storm and had the very clean upstairs dining room to ourselves. You may even name your own pasta to your dish! I highly recommend Chianti!

    Water smelled weird. The salmon on my pasta was extrenely salty and had canned crab meat on top. My friends also had a wrap and the chips were all crushed and tasted slightly stale. I asked for a bottle of tabasco and the hot sauce was brown and no longer red. The atmosphere was also very quiet and slightly awkward.

    My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time. The bread and salad were very good. We had high hopes for the rest of the meal. I had the Chicken Francese, which is one of my favorite Italian dishes and it was terrible. The chicken was pounded to death, the egg coating was barely there and the sauce had a bad oil taste to it. I got a side of spagetti with red sauce and I can't believe for billing itself as being a 'real' Italian Restaurant the 'red gravy' tasted so bland. My husband did not enjoy his selection either. What a disappointment.

    Chianti, for many years, was one of our favorite restaurants. We, however, have not been there in a year or so. Over that time period, I had noticed that the exterior lights that outlined the roof had burned out, one by one. The single lights eventually were replaced by seemingly a rope light. I missed those lights...always so pretty and so welcoming as one was driving on 309. Upon entering, no one was present at the counter and a panel of frosted plexiglass? was placed over part of the counter, blocking the open kitchen view. I missed the open feel of that area. We used to be greeted by a gentleman there, always working, smiling, welcoming patrons and offering bread that was placed at the top of the counter. There was no bread there this visit. After looking for an employee, taking a few steps towards the staircase that lead to the second floor, we were greeted by a young lady who emerged from a small room who told us to proceed upstairs. At the base of the stairs, on a small table, was the bread. Being that it was in a corner, lower and at the base of the staircase, I really didn't want any. I somehow would have felt it to be more sanitary/safe from above the counter, higher, and within kitchen view. We were seated immediately. It was a Saturday night and we were one of four parties there. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. Although the restaurant is BYOB, a complimentary glass of wine was always offered with dinner in the past. I am not sure if that still exists as it was not offered. We did notice that the serving size of the dipping oil and condiments were much smaller that previous years. My order came back missing two ingredients that I had requested to be added but was cheerfully taken back to the kitchen and the ingredients added. The temperature was not consistent throughout my entree and it just seemed to lack flavor and freshness. My husband, however, enjoyed his entree. We both agreed that the portions seemed smaller (which is totally OK!!) but the prices a bit higher. We have been here since the decor was changed. Decor is pleasant and pretty I will return one more time and give it another chance, especially since it has always been a favorite of ours, before I sadly decide not to return again.

    This was our first visit to this restaurant. The dining room is on the second story of the pizza shop. Our server took our orders and served drinks in good time. She said that it was a BYOB and that they offered free wine with the entrees but the bread and oil took longer. My wife asked for butter for her bread and didn't arrive until much later.... After I tried many times to flag her down and finally she saw me. After another 10 minutes she delivered the small salads with (as she said) non homemade dressings, but she still forgot the bread and butter. My wife had to go to the kitchen herself to get it! The entrees finally came and mine was nothing to write home about. The shrimp was way overcooked, dry and tough. I had her take it back But through all of this, she never asked about or brought our wine she promised. We asked about our wine and she again apologised and brought it out pretty soon. Meanwhile, I waited while my wife finished her entree. .. And waited. After some more time, my refired shrimp parm came out and this time it was good, although the sauce was still sweet, unlike the sauce on my wife's veal parm, that was better. Finally, we were done. The check came without apology or comp. Needless to say, unless I hear that something drastically has changed, I don't think that I'll eat at Chianti's again.

    This is our go-to spot for "red gravy" Italian and pizza, but they really are a notch above similar restaurants in terms of quality. I trust pretty much everything on the menu (where I might flinch at ordering, say, seafood at a similar style restaurant.) BYOB w/no corking fee, small dining area up the stairwell above the pizzeria - show up too late on a Saturday night and you may find yourself milling around in a crowd downstairs, eating garlic knots while you pace, a bit of a bummer. We're big fans of the chicken & veal Parm, all the pizzas, chicken Franchese and - seriously - the sauteed spinach and garlic. It's weirdly listed as an appetizer vs a side dish, but it's worth every penny of the $7 or so they charge for it. Pasta with garlic & oil is fantastic and usually a good indicator of the kitchen (harder to get right and easier to screw up than you'd think.) Always huge portions, great fresh bread with oil/garlic/olive/red pepper tapanade. Ceasar salad is often overdressed and a little sour, regular salad is just bagged field greens and can sometimes be limp but it comes with the entree. Desserts are nothing to write home about and we usually skip it. Decor is a little chintzy (large painted vegetables on the walls, wine bottles, and photos from movies). Servers are usually very good, and it's a very casual, loud, family-friendly environment which may not appeal to everyone. It's not really a "date night" place but the food is so good it's a good trade-off. Owner seems to be on site 24/7 and makes a point to say hello/goodbye. Found out the hard way they're now closed Sundays (not sure if for good or just the summer?)

    We were happy to find this excellent restaurant open on a Sunday night and so convenient to the turnpike. The food was surprisingly good (don't judge a book by the cover) and well worth the price. Our waiter was attentive, courteous and personable. We would definitely eat here again.

    Great experience! Here's the story: My fiance and I were in town for the holidays and wanted to take my parents to dinner. We're from outside DC and are used to local restaurants but planned to take my folks to Olive Garden. I had tried to search online for a local italian place but didn't have much luck and we wanted to be sure we had a nice dinner place/not just a pizza parlour. Well, the Olive Garden was beyond packed on a Saturday night. Disturbing, really. 45 minute wait but I didn't believe them. So my mom mentioned that she'd seen a place one day when she went exploring - it was Chianti. We walked in - the downstairs is for pick-up and upstairs they have a full restaurant. The man behind the pizza counter was extremely welcoming and nice and there was a plate of very tempting garlic rolls. We were seated quickly and got settled upstairs. The one bummer was that the place was BYOB and since we hadn't planned/didn't know we realized it'd be a dry dinner. But then the server said she could offer a complimentary glass of red or white to us - score! That was fantastic. Not something to depend on, of course, but quite kind. We received a plate of warm bread and several dipping options - delicious and SO much better than those free breadsticks at Olive Garden. Since we didn't know we'd be getting bread, I had also ordered the garlic knots since seeing them downstairs was too tempting. Fantastic! They came with a delicious red dipping sauce - it tasted very fresh, like pureed tomatoes, olive oil, and seasoning. Meals also came with a salad with house balsamic vinagrette on the side. By the time our entrees came, we were already pretty full so all of us were able to take some home. My manicotti was delicious and cost about $14, my fiance got the creamy pesto for a similar price. My parents got chicken entrees for about $18 each. Everyone was happy! Our total bill was $80.00. You could tell that there were several regular groups that go out for dinner and we saw a few families that knew each other and struck up a conversation. It does get noisy upstairs but what you'd expect from any family restaurant. All in all, a great meal. I'm admittedly not a picky expert about Italian food but I didn't feel like I was eating mass-produced, chain restaurant food. It ended up being fantastic that the Olive Garden was packed! I can definately see us returning again with wine in tow for a delicious meal! note- we saw a sign as we were exciting that starting January 2010 they will be closed on Sundays.

    This is my go-to spot for carry-out pizza. It's about 5 miles round trip from my house, so it's now a regular stop on the weekends. I haven't been in the restaurant yet...I'm here for the carry-out. I'm so glad that this place is here...I've been searching for quality pizza in the western Valley for some time, all to no avail. My old favorite, where I used to live in New Tripoli, was Salvatore's, and finding another true Italian pizza joint has been tough. The kitchen is right there when you walk in, and the owner is manning the register and the pizza oven like a pro. Dough is stacked in pans, ready for the night's work, and pies are in and out of the oven like clockwork. The pizza here is very, very good. My personal favorite is the magherita, thanks to extra garlic and plenty of fresh basil. The restaurant is quite busy on weekend nights, but take out is prompt. (Twenty minutes or less for pizza.) The restaurant is BYOB. Vorrei vederti in linea su Sabato notte!

    This review is for the restaurant upstairs, not the carry-out. We were passing through the area and wanted to grab dinner at a place that wasn't Applebees. I don't get it, all of the reviews seem to show that this place is great and authentic, but we did NOT share that experience. I was willing to ignore the fact that "Chianti" was misspelled on the specials menu, because everyone has a bad day. As it turned out, incorrectly spelling the name of your restaurant turned out to be pretty indicative of the care they put into their food. Before I start whining, I have to say that the service was really good, kind and attentive but not too clingy. The food however, left much to be desired. My husband got a chicken dish which was just 2 pounded chicken fingers, breaded and served with a sad tomato (although all tomatoes are sad in feb in PA) and some cold mozz cheese, arranged on a plate rather than melted together, which might have been tasty. Both of us had pasta which was cold with warmer sauce. I had chicken marsala, complete with canned mushrooms. The biggest issue was that the sauces seriously tasted like they were poured directly out of a jar and onto our food, which is nearly okay at a pizza joint, but this appears to be selling itself as a real Italian restaurant, charging $20 a plate. We finished it all off with a cup of coffee, which was so metallic tasting that it was undrinkable. The highlights were our very kind server, the decent bread and salads. If I lived nearby, I would be willing to check out the pizzeria side of things downstairs, but I would not eat upstairs again.

    I have been here several times with friends when I visit home and always appreciate the consistent quality of the food and great service. After living in NYC for 8 years, I still enjoy a homestyle Italian dinner. Furthermore, it's BYOB with no corking fee. I went on a Sat night. Called ahead and was created by a friendly man who said it was no problem to get seated in an hour. We were seated immediately and ordered the spinach app, eggplant parm, and veal franchese. Everything was excellent. Entrees come with salads and range from 12ish to 25. Yum!
