Food: Diner fare/Mostly breakfast Short Version: Smaller menu-solidly breakfast, good food and service....an all around solid diner. I've been here now a few times-I'm surprised no one has made a review yet of this place, but that is more than likely due to it's location in downtown Allentown. This diner is great-the service is good/waitresses are polite and fast (very east coast). I'm a transplant and have traveled all over the US, from Cali, Washington State, Colorado, Kansas/Missouri, West Virginia, Philly, to name a few...this is right up there in solid breakfast diner fare. Menu is small for a diner, but has a very solid breakfast lineup. I've had the pancakes, omelets (Which they prioritize), and my favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and homefries. Homefries are very good sliced potatoes fried in a mass. Eggs came perfectly-as they typically do-even when poached. The Chicken fried steak you could tell was hand battered and just delicious. Waitress always refills my coffee before I'm fully out-it's usually fresh. Caveat: I have avoided going here on Sat/Sun mornings since this is when most restaurants suffer the most due to high volume of visitors....so I can't say how the service or food is during those busy weekend mornings. M-F mornings or M-Sunday afternoons are just fine.

Another town another diner. Somewhere along the line I had the idea that diners were a snapshot of American cuisine. Based on a lot of the ones I've sampled recently, if they are, the picture is blurry. Not a lot of interesting local flavor ,not a lot of creativity. Just a lot of undistinguished grub. The Allentown Diner fit this well. It is one of the limited selection of eateries in town so it is worth a visit but don't expect much.

The food was ok as was the service, but it also had entertainment: A toddler running in and out of the kitchen; a waitress yelling at a man to "Never come here again" then telling another waitress that the guy was the father of her daughter; and the owner that kept by the cash register a notice from the City of Allentown that the restaurant failed inspection. Seriously, if your restaurant fails a health inspection, you should hide the notice so customers won't see it!

It's hard to rate a diner. We had an excellent diner breakfast -- nothing at all special, but it was one of the best diner breakfasts we've eaten. Great hash browns, great service, even the coffee was drinkable. And cheap. I'd go back any time.
