Im from Mexico originally so I like strong spicy tastes and my wife is vegetarian, so finding a place in which we are both satisfied is a little hard. However we ate very happy at this place, the food is very Mexican authentic, they have a lot off vegetarian options. Why am I not giving them 5 stars? I think a bigger selection of sauces would greatly improve the food ,(tomatillo sauce, red sauce) and the service was a little slow, might be they seem to be a little understaffed.

Terrible, terrible!! Never go on a Tuesday if you want half way descent service. But stay away if you want good food. In town from Sacramento visiting my parents in Roseburg. We wanted Mexican and seafood so we saw the pretty good reviews so decided to give it a try. We were seated promptly because there was hardly anyone there. Our waiter came and said that he would get our order in quickly because there was a big group for Dollar Taco Tuesdays which we did not know was happening. 45 to 50 minutes later we had to ask when our food would be coming out. My father has back problems, was just released from the hospital, uses a walker and he cannot sit for too long, especially in a booth, so by the time the food arrived we just wanted to eat and leave. The food was not very good, my dad only ate maybe a bite or two. The vegetables were hard. Extremely, extremely disappointed. Even complained to the waiters, front house girl and they didnt really do anything except offer 10% off our order. We were asked 5 or 6 times if we wanted a to go box. Really? No thank you!

So disappointed! Bad food and even worse service. We use to consider this our go to place but not after tonight's service. I brought my family from out of town to enjoy our favorite place only to be treated rudely by being ignored and served stale taco shells and soggy enchiladas.

Hidden gem! This place does sit off to the Side a bit. This was my second time here. I have had lunch, now dinner. Both times were excellent. The service great and the food excellent and fresh. They do have a full bar. I only had water so I am not sure about the margaritas here. Bet they are good as well. The staff so friendly. Give it a try!

I am not going to say this was my worst dining experience, but I would rather have a meal with Hannibal lector than come back here. Not for anything TOO extreme, but for a lot of little things that all accumulated to an experience that I would expect from a McDonald's, not a "restaurante." When we first arrived it took my family and I to be seated around 10-15 minutes, all while a waitress is walking around staring us in the face but continuing to do other tasks, then when we were finally seated I ordered a beer and did not receive a glass to accompany it. (I did not particularly care but it is still a courtesy to even offer a cold glass) We ordered our food and the waiter was in such a rush (it wasn't even busy) that when the rest of my family ordered a carne asada burrito and I ordered regular carne asada he assumed that I was talking about the burrito as well. On a good note when they brought the food out it was replaced with exactly what I wanted very quickly. Hence the 2 stars instead of 1. About halfway through the meal I asked the waitress (who was extremely rude and standoffish) for another beer. She pointed to another waiter and said "he will have to get it" and then walked off. I understand if somebody is underage and cannot legally serve alcohol, but at least inform somebody who is that somebody would like another drink. My 3 year old daughters water glass was never refilled the whole time we were in there, we never officially got a check delivered to our table so we had to go up to the counter to finally get our check, and on top of all of this the food was extremely bland. There was almost no flavor to anything that was put on our table, even the salsa. How does one make a tasteless salsa you ask? I have no idea, but this place sure does. All in all it was a pretty terrible experience, and I will never come back to this place again, and I recommend that anybody thinking of coming here, should just turn their vehicle around and find another place.

I've been coming here since 1992. I've always experienced great service. My waters always full, the chips and salsa never run dry, and they always give me the extra napkins I ask for. The food is pretty good, too! No pre-formed taco shells here! And I love the strawberry margaritas...yum!!

Portion size is on the low size, but food is good. Service is typically friendly and prompt. Have eaten there multiple times and will do so. :)

One caveat, I am very fussy about Mexican food and like "gourmet Mexican". However, when you're on the road and going through a smallish town, you know the Mexican food will not be gourmet. I decided to be healthy so I had the vegan zucchini burrito and I was happy with my meal. My daughter will eat bean and cheese burritos any day of the week and she polished off a massive burrito. For my taste the red sauce was nondescript. My other daughter had carne asada tacos which were ok, meat a little overcooked. My husband had the chicken in mole enchiladas and thought they weren't bad. Food gets three stars. The service gets five stars. Our waiter was attentive, and thought of everything we needed before we did. Not a bad place to refuel on a road trip.

Good food, great people! Casual Mexican food, the menu is really large, so there is something for everyone to be certain. If you go on somebody's birthday they will put a big Sombrero on the birthday party and sing for you. Great for the whole family as well as a large seating area in the back for large parties.

We love this place. Our family has been coming here since they opened. Always good food and always good service.

The service was amazing! We got our water and chips right away. No delay on the drink order, our salsa was never empty, and although they were packed on a Friday night, our food came in a reasonable amount of time. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Food was good but service was weird. Waiter barely spoke to us and acted really nervous and in a hurry. Weird vibe. Not sure we will return.

Awesome service. Great food. Margaritas are the best. The bandarillas are amazing. Perfect chips and salsa. They have both hot and mild available that they make in house.

We were travelling through town and selected Carlos Restaurante based on the Yelp reviews. I can see why it receives such a high rating. The service was fast and pleasant and the food was delicious! It is a very clean establishment too. I had a shredded beef and a cheese enchilada along with the rice and beans. I ate every bite and did not feel heavy and/or greasy afterwards. My husband had the Avocado Salad and was pleased as well. I highly recommend Carlos!

Prices went up, portions are smaller. Friendly staff and great atmosphere, but definitely not as good as it used to be. If youre in winston, though, its better than the mexican restaurant down the street.

Carlos is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Roseburg area. We have tried 2 others, one was horrible, the other average. Carlos is quite good, my favorite dish is the soft carnitas tacos, next is the macho burro. My wife likes their chicken taquitos and most of all, their blackberry margaritas. We have eaten there several times and will continue to do so. My wife loves chile verde, but here it had a slightly sweet taste which she didn't care for.

I am always so impressed with this place!! Great food, only surpassed by great service and strong drinks!!! The down home Mexican culture oozes throughout the wait staff, and they are all personable and very friendly. I just had their shrimp seafood salad with oil and vinegar dressing as a lighter dare, and it was scrumptious!

Waiter was very good but not good enough to make up for mediocre food. The fish in the fish tacos was very good but we could have used a magnifying glass to find it. The Carne Asada Burrito was flavorless, though generous. Also, not much flavor in the frijoles. The salsa for the chips was quite good and the chips themselves were adequate. The Mango Margarita drink from the bar was tasty but they really "cheaped out" on the alcohol. We would not return here.

Outstanding Mexican food and drinks! Very neat and clean, fast service for seating, water and drink orders taken promptly and excellent food and drink menu. We have eaten here many times for lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed or had anything bad at all. You will not be disappointed with this place. P.S. Be sure and check out the wonderful hand painted murals throughout the restaurant and bar. All unique, different, and painted by a local artist. They are truly beautiful.

A pleasant surprise: a decent Mex place in the middle of nowhere! All our food was well-prepared, and with an extensive menu and friendly staff, Carlos may be just the ticket on your next road trip.

We shared the shrimp fajitas, they were outstanding! The service was excellent and the staff was extremely professional. We will definitely go back when we are in the area.

This place is awesome. Best chili relleno I have ever had. Juan Carlos rules. From out of town, but if I'm ever in Winston again I will certainly come back!! Two thumbs up.

I've only eaten here once but I was so impressed, I am a fajita addict and this place has mastered fajitas. On top of that it had great staff and was very clean. I can tell you I really loved their fajitas I need to go back.

Over the years I've heard a mixed reviews about this place, and since I got some $10 gift certificates for Carlos from a local radio station. I figured I would give them a try. I was surprised by how good they were. The chips and salsa were good. The chips were very warm, thick, and crunchy the salsa was pretty good. It's little on the mild side for my taste, but OK for those who can't "eat a flame." I had the 2 enchilada combo meal. I really liked the beans and the spanish rice was more than acceptable. My enchiladas were good. They weren't buried in sauce or cheese like some places. I also ordered some chili fritos (grilled Jalapenos). I found them to be very good not under grilled or overly cooked with sauce or oils. I found it interesting that the tables are stocked with blue agave sweetener, which is great for those needing a gluten free diet or wanting a low glycemic index sweetener. If I could I would give them 3.5 stars. There are other places in the Roseburg area I prefer to Carlos, so I can't give a full 4 or 5 stars. If I did want a change of pace from other Mexican restaurants I like, then I would definitely go back to Carlos.

Bar none the standard in service to all other restaurants. We have eaten here MANY times. Some nights maybe haven't been as good, but hey, everyone has an off night occasionally. They are always striving for excellence. A must if you are in the area.

Nice place. The service was gracious and effective. The food, while standard Mexican fare, was well executed, attractive and very tasty. I'll be back!

I do like Carlos's It is close by my house and I am basically lazy so that is why I go there often. I love the chicken tacos there. They are partially deep fried and then the lettuce cheese and sauce put on. I love that sort of taco where the shell is fried but not like a crunchy taco shell. It is in between crunchy and soft. I also like the shrimp enchiladas. Basically a corn shell with shrimp inside with a green enchiladas sauce on top with I think some white wine in it. Comes with beans and rice, sour cream, and some avacado slices. My favorite dish for sure. I did have one lame experience there. I ordered a to go order for my family. I personally ordered the shrimp enchiladas. The girl taking my order seemed new as I had to help her out with the menu a few times. When I got home, my shrimp enchiladas was actually a shrimp enchilada and nothing else. Normally it is two shrimp enchiladas, rice and beans and the garnishs. I only got one shrimp enchilada and nothing else. So I called them on the phone to let them know. They I think apologized and told me I could come back and get it replaced. No problem I said, I will come in at a later time but not that night. 2 minutes later the girl who took my order calls me back and says she only charged me for one shrimp enchilada. In other words, I got what I paid for. I was a litle ticked that she had the nerve to call me to tell me that. It was like she was saying I got what I paid for. Either way, she screwed it up. Hey things happen but you do what you can to make it right to the customer. I have not been back since so I am not sure what will happen next time. I know for me, I am expecting the shrimp enchiladas for free. Yes, I may have got what I paid for but had I went back I would have had to spend extra time making another trip back to get my food replaced. We will see. If they make it right for me, they will keep me as a customer. If they do not, I will still go there, but it will be less often.

We love Carlos Restaurante! Always good food and great service. Recently my son chose to go there for his birthday. They did a little something extra...they took his picture and enclosed it in a card.

My boyfriend and I just happened to drive by this place on a road trip up North. It's right on the main drag, so you cannot miss it! If you do, you are skipping out on some good eats. We ordered blackberry margaritas - new menu item, and it's a keeper. We finally decided on the burrito zucchini - it might not sound like much, but it killed basically every other burrito I've tasted. It was smothered in green sauce and topped with sliced avocado, and boy oh boy was it good. And because we like lard-o mexican food, we went with the staple of a cheese enchilada, a la carte. I know you'll call me crazy, but this enchilada tasted so much better than the other bullshit I have tried. The sauce was so much more developed and intricately seasoned. Service also ruled. Sweet patio seating. The menu will blow your mind.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
